Okay, another Sean and Lenny meta post, this time also featuring some stuff about Javier. I wanna talk about why I think Sean and Lenny would side with Arthur at the end of RDR2, and bring forth all my reasoning as to why I will die on this hill.

Rant under the read more to spare my mutuals. (Fair warning this is a LONG one babes, there is so much meta)

So, to start, I don't actually think the story of RDR2 would look the same, if at all, were Sean and Lenny not to die their scripted deaths. Even in a version of things where they survive and they go to the same camps, the unfolding of events would by necessity be different due to the impact their personalities and frames of thinking would have on the people around them. However, let's for arguments sake say that in this hypothetical, things are mostly the same, and we're down to that last scene in Beaver Hollow, the last showdown, with Dutch and Micah on one side, and Arthur and John on the other. We know where Javier and Bill go, but where would Sean and Lenny gravitate?

I've already made my stance on the matter clear, so let's really get into why I think Lenny and Sean would choose Arthur's side over Dutch's.

First off, I think it's important to remember that it isn't JUST Dutch vs Arthur, in this scene. In its essential form, it is Dutch & Micah vs Arthur & John. Arthur points at Micah as the rat, and Dutch believes Micah over Arthur. John arrives and accuses Dutch for leaving him to bleed out and die, and Arthur believes John -- not that Dutch denies it.

The point here is, though, that it's not JUST Dutch or Arthur, they're choosing. It is also the people who side with those individuals, whom we must take into account.

Sean and Lenny are canonically Micah-haters, if you will. There are several instances throughout the game, while the two are alive, where they loudly proclaim their dislike of Micah. Sean calling him an 'oily turd' and getting offended at being compared to him, is a near and dear line from the game, for me. And I doubt I have to explain why Lenny isn't besties with the most outwardly racist member of the gang.

"Oh, but Teki!" I hear you say. "Javier is also shown to dislike Micah, and yet he sides with Dutch in the end!" And, see, now you have activated my trap card, so let's really take a look at Javier, before going any further.

Javier is among the most loyal members of the gang -- Arthur literally says this as a camp interaction with him, long before chapter 5 or 6. The fact that Arthur is the one saying it, should tell us something -- this is coming from the man whose loyalty is such a strong character trait it turns into a flaw, and ultimately leads to his demise. And if you think about it, Javier being exceedingly loyal - to the gang, to Dutch - should not be surprising!

When Dutch met Javier, Javier didn't even know English. Javier was starving, on the run, with no safety or know-how, in a country he didn't know nor understand. Javier's story with the gang literally STARTS with Dutch saving him. He is brought into the gang, and in the four years he's there, he is taught English and also shown more respect and compassion than many other places in the US at the time. There are many examples of how Javier is treated as a Mexican in the US, throughout the game, and he, like the other POC in the gang, is allowed to stand up for himself and punish other gang members who slight him (Micah and Bill, in particular). In many ways, Dutch provides through the gang a safety net Javier probably didn't even dream of achieving when he crossed the border.

And then Guarma happens.

I, personally, cannot overstate enough how much I think Javier's experiences on Guarma reinforce his loyalty and blind faith in Dutch. He is tortured, ridiculed, and humiliated, and who is it that opens that cage door and literally pulls Javier out of it all? Carries him over his shoulder out of a compound of Cubans that would rather see their heads on pikes?

You guessed it, it's Dutch. Yes, Arthur does a lot of the heavy lifting, but let's be real - Dutch is the one who gets the credit, as usual. He made the plan, after all, and notably, he IS actually the one grabbing Javier and hauling him out of there.

That means, that the two times we know of, where Javier has been at his absolute worst, Dutch is the one who has saved him. Javier, who is so loyal even Arthur acknowledges the immensity of it. So who is then surprised that he doubles down even harder, when they return to the US, and things take a turn for the worse in Beaver Hollow?

In that moment, at the end of chapter 6, Javier cares more about siding with Dutch, than he cares about Dutch siding with Micah.

And I'll argue a similar case for Bill; he has speeches, camp events, where he straight up says Dutch saved him, saved the people of the gang. This is literally The Thing, with these two, that makes their choices at the end really make sense, in my eyes.

It's also important to note that Javier is literally the most clueless among them when he makes that choice. He wasn't there for most of the conversation leading up to it -- he literally just came from being on watch, to warn them about the encroaching Pinkertons. And, as everyone knows, he doesn't point his gun at Arthur and John, and he nor Bill are there for the horse chase scene, blah blah, those points have been done a million times, you already know them.

"Okay, but Teki," you say, trying to reason with my rambling fanatic self. "How do you know Lenny and Sean wouldn't go down similar paths, if they survived past their scripted deaths?" And I say onto you, verily; because neither of them really have similar savior stories with Dutch, thematically.

I mean for goodness' sake, Sean tried to ROB Dutch and Hosea, upon meeting them intially. They just liked his guts and invited him along, and Sean was like, 'shit why not, aint got nothin better to do!' - paraphrased, of course, but in my heart of hearts that's what he said.

All we know definitely with Lenny is that he joined the gang while traversing the Grizzlies, the year before the events of the game. Whether it was a savior situation or a mutually beneficial situation, isn't actually fully known. We can make assumptions and speculate until we're all blue in the face, but I have stronger points for Lenny's case so let's move on.

So, as I've talked about before, Lenny is acknowledged as among the smarter members of the gang, despite his youth. He is one of the only ones who intellectually challenges Dutch, and he is clearly not afraid to criticise Dutch's ideas and ideals -- when prompted.

(Side note, as I said at the start but want to really emphasize here, I really think chapter 6 is the one that would be the most impacted by Lenny's survival. He has shown himself remarkably aware of societal issues contemporary to his time, so look me in the eyes and tell me you genuinely believe he, as a black man, wouldn't attempt to intervene in some way when Dutch starts fucking with the Wapiti. That kid has balls of steel and audacity up the whazoo, and he's excruciatingly aware of how black people in the US have been royally fucked over by white men. You think he'd see the Wapiti struggling, Dutch scheming, and be like 'oh yay more white man shenanigans! lets go!' ?? bffr!)

Lenny ALSO is among the newer members of the gang; it provides him safety and respect that's hard found outside it, yes, but in my opinion he straight up does not have enough cost sunk into this fallacy, for it to fallacy properly in his head, if you catch my drift. I think if it's not for the fact that he has genuine bonds with people in the gang by the time chapter 6 rolls around, like Charles and Sadie do at that point, he probably would be smart enough to dip, like other characters do.

And that's sort of the thing, too, with both Lenny and Sean. They don't actually have daddy issues in the same way Arthur and John do.

Lenny and Sean are very similar in that they had good relationships with their fathers, and are proud of their parentage -- what wisdom and teachings their fathers managed to impart upon their sons before passing, has stuck with them. They are not in need of a new father figure, and they certainly do not seek it in Dutch(nor Hosea), not like Arthur and John do.

They find a sense of brotherhood in the gang, sure, and they view the other members as family (you can pry their little brother statuses from my cold dead hands), but Dutch is their leader, not their guardian, not their teacher, and certainly not anything close to a father, in their eyes. The fact that Lenny discusses literature with him is indicative of this -- the conversation is one of opinion between would-be equals, not of mentor and protege. The fact that Dutch only really seems interested in Sean as far as he serves as camp clown is also indicative of how Sean might feel about him, too. Dutch literally yells at Sean for taking a break from being the silly goofy distraction, in one camp interaction -- and from the way Sean talks about him, I don't think that sort of behavior has a lot of fatherly associations for the 'irish terrier'.

And that leads us to my pièce de résistance, dear fellow cowboy maniacs (you must be, if you've read thus far). Lenny and Sean are both closer, and friendlier with Arthur, than they are with Dutch. Example: Both of them poking fun at Arthur in ways they do not with Dutch. Sean telling Arthur he loves him - like an insane amount of times. Lenny chooses Arthur to go riding with, time and time again.

And guess what? When we see Sean and Lenny at their lowest, who is it that helps them out?

If you answered Arthur Morgan, give yourself a pat on the back and a gold star sticker!

We are literally introduced to Sean while Arthur leads Javier and Charles into saving him from bounty hunters. Arthur is the one cutting him down from that tree, bringing him upright, making sure he is okay. Arthur is also the one who saves him from being shot to death on the train robbery in Pouring Forth Oil. When Lenny comes to tell the gang about Micah being in jail in Strawberry, he has also just narrowly escaped being lynched, and it is Arthur who brings him away from that experience, calms him down and allows him to relax and let loose again.

Both Sean and Lenny have a deeper, more profound connection to Arthur, than they have Dutch. And consequently, if they were to survive until the end of chapter 6 and were the then much-more-unlikely showdown scene to happen, they would certainly not side with Dutch & Micah, over Arthur & John.

FREE SPACE: this character deserved more

first one is self explanatory jimmy is very pretty

wasted potential: let's get started. this character had SUCH BIG POTENTIAL. he should've been pran's best friend, ride or die for him, slight anger issues. that's how he started out but the writers decided u know what? we don't need proper developed side characters we can just do whatever the fuck we want. and then decided that his only personality trait is "evil when we need him to be" every single one of his arcs post ep 6 was the most stupid thing i have ever seen in my entire life. this wasn't a character he was a plot device.

they're deeper than they seem: TO ME bc me and @disaster-j came up with an entire extensive AU where waikorn happens and i swear we put in more thought into these characters than the actual writers did.

yes!! i mentioned it briefly here/here but i think it's def possible that mara had one on alfie (i have no reasoning except that it gives off childhood-best-friends au!peraltiago vibes aka 'he makes me laugh' aka v cute) but it was one-sided, and amber/jerome had lil baby crushes on each other at some point as well (also no reasoning for this except for that throwaway post-ping-pong line but also i lowkey love them as a concept?).

i think alfie was the first person Patricia had feelings for but didn't actually realize it until eddie came into the picture and she was like "oh THAT'S what was happening" lmao. alfie basically-canonically had a crush on Patricia during s1 and i think that started probably as soon as they moved into the house but because they became really close friends almost instantaneously, i don't think he ever really realized it, especially because he mentioned amber was pretty *one* time and jerome started incessantly teasing him about that. unpopular opinion though but palfie crushes resolve themselves by mid-to-late season 2.

eddie only ever had eyes for patricia (while at the house) end of story the end :)

kt and joy is basically canon in 3a as well although i think joy gets over it by 3b when sibuna stuff starts ramping up and she's not in it anymore. there's a brief period of time (like a couple weeks max) sometime after amber leaving that sparks seem to fly between joy and alfie, but she convinces herself it's all in her head…it wasn't entirely, let's put it that way.

obviously joy and fabian was a thing on her part, but i do think he let it go on so far because he kinda thought he might like her too, although he wasn't sure. also at the very beginning of high school people started assuming him and mara were a thing (because nerds stick together, right) and lowkey he always assumed it would happen by the time they graduated although he never actually had feelings while those rumors were going around. also something abt how nearly every time he hung out with joy, Patricia was there, and how that complicated things too.

this is slightly off topic but i have this headcanon that there's some point while they're doing victor's chores in season 2 that Patricia tries to explain what went on the previous year with joy to eddie but because she cant actually tell him most of the details she ends up focusing way too much on her own trauma and eddie just kind of goes "that's a lot for someone who was 'just a friend', yacker". now obviously he's teasing (and entirely in good fun, and she knew it) but she can't stop thinking about it. now I'm conflicted on whether or not there were actually feelings there because i love their besties dynamic so much and i 100% want it to stay that way, but idk

2. A canon or headcanon hill I will die on

Okay, I know you said one canon and one OC, but I'm feeling opinionated today and I don't really know how to answer this was an OC anyway.

Alex Summers is not dumb. Lack of education does not mean dumb. A criminal record does not mean dumb. He's quick-witted and can react quickly in a fight - not to mention, in the comics he's actually very intelligent and studies geophysical sciences. I'm tired of people turning him into a stereotypical "bad boy" and completely erasing those other sides of his character.

Billy from 6 Underground is not dumb. ADHD does not mean dumb. He talks fast and bounces from topic to topic, goes off on random side tangents, but he's not stupid. Parkour as a whole requires a lot of snap judgements, and intrinsic knowledge of physics and kinesthetics. Then add that to the fact that he was a thief and had to plan how to steal his target items (and not just himself, a whole crew of people), and there's actually a lot of intellect that goes into his character.

Just in general, I feel like intelligence gets missed when the character isn't "book smart" or formally educated. Just because a character doesn't spout facts and calculations doesn't mean they're dumb. There are so many other characters I could talk about here because it happens a LOT, but that's a separate post.

17. Quotes, songs, poems, etc. that I associate with them

Obviously I work a lot of music into my fics, but I think Prometheus is the only one where I've made a truly defined playlist (and I don't really collect quotes or read a lot of poems). The song I most associate with them is The Calling by The Amazing Devil, for so many reasons. Here, look at the lyrics:

Look at it! The "burning" and "embers", all the fire symbolism! And then followed by a reference to the mythological Prometheus, with the "broken liver" bit! And the "looking into the waters" to me represented Prometheus partway through their transformation into a dream, when they look at themself and no longer see Nyx, but don't quite know what they've become yet. It fits them just so perfectly.

And I really like Wolf by First Aid Kit for the Corinthian too (thanks for sharing the song with me bestie, it's become one of my favorites).

18. What they’d go to see a therapist about

Bestie everyone needs so much therapy I don't even know who to talk about here.

Indie definitely needs to work through some PTSD. Even before the war, I think she struggles with it just from her experiences on Corellia, but it definitely gets worse after the final battle and everything that happened there.

I also feel like she and Hux might seek out couple's therapy at some point - not because anything's wrong, but just because they're both used to being alone and might need help learning to adjust to being able to rely on someone else.

31. If they had a tumblr what would it look like?

Out of my OCs, Jasper's the most likely to have a tumblr account. They probably made an account when they were 14-15 and spent way too long designing their blog, but hasn't changed it since then because they got too busy with college and didn't have the time. I don't think they'd have any blog theme, they'd just kinda reblog whatever they felt like.

For canon characters, this is a bit of a shitpost but I think it would be really funny if the Corinthian had a tumblr that was just him posting really vague rants about his boss, where they're juuust enough bizarre detail that you can't tell if it's a real rant or a tumblr-ism. Sort of like the @dreamofthemaidenless blog, I think

time for me to ramble

i've said this before but i firmly believe mirabel and camilo were besties what with the closeness in age and whatnot

the night of the failed ceremony milo comforts mirabel and reminds her that they stick together no matter what (claiming they're twins)

but after camilo got his gift and mira didn't their relationship was kinda strained

camilo was busy w/ chores now and mira was looking for ways to prove herself, they just kinda drifted apart with time

so after casita falls and mirabel disappears everyone’s eyes are opened to everything that had been wrong in the family

this in turn opens camilo's eyes as he realizes that he's failed mirabel, they were supposed to stick together and he never even stood up for her, and the guilt hits him in a wave

camilo also believes that it's his duty to be there for everyone/cheer them up so he deeply regrets not being there for mira while she was suffering in silence

i just imagine he'd be so relieved once mirabel returns safely, throwing himself onto her, crushing her in a hug, profusely apologizing and mirabel comforting him in turn hence the, "we'll be ok"

he wants to make it up to her and he does his best post-canon by being the first to make a move to rekindle their friendship

Now like, I'm a big multi-shipper and I think Saiki could easily be paired up with most of his friends, or with Satou, or be fully aroace. There's plenty of great discussions to be had there.

BUT in canon, Aiura's predictions are never wrong. That means that she and Saiki are at minimum platonic soulmates. The hill I'll die on is that Aiura and Saiki are besties for life and I will now elaborate some of my top reasons why:

Saiki canonically admits, in his tsundere way, that going out for dessert with Aiura is better than going alone. As much as he tries to pretend this isn't the case at first, he enjoys her company.

Side note: on the first "date" at Café Mami, Aiura asks Saiki for a bite of coffee jelly and he naturally refuses. I maintain that if she had waited for her tricked out coffee jelly to arrive and offered him a bite, his coffee-jelly-simp ass would have 100% taken it lmfao.

I don't think it's recognized enough that Saiki is nosy as hell and wants to know the latest gossip so bad. He was ALL EARS when Kuboyasu and Kaido were trying to figure out if Hairo was gay, immediately started following Kuboyasu to find out who sent him that love letter, and has way too much interest in Chiyo's love life way after she stopped being interested in him.

You cannot tell me he wouldn't start gossiping with Aiura at the tiniest opening. He only doesn't gossip with other people because he doesn't actually talk to his other friends for 99% of canon lmao. And there is really something so satisfying about gossiping with your bestie. AND Aiura is literally the best person ever to gossip with because SHE CAN CONFIRM!!! Like, they can speculate about the relationship between X and Y as much as they like, and she can literally just turn to her crystal ball and be like "yeah actually they went on a date last Tuesday and they've got plans for Saturday but their compatibility is only like 14% lmao". This would appeal SO MUCH to Saiki's intrinsic need to know everything that is going on around him at all times.

They TRUST EACH OTHER! There's no way they wouldn't seek out each other for advice on tricky matters. While Saiki might have 50 billion magical powers, he's not exactly a people person like Aiura and could probably use her help when figuring out how to deal with people. Plus, he knows her heart is in the right place and she sees stuff from a different perspective, which can be really helpful. Not to mention her powers! And Aiura would certainly seek out Saiki's advice, especially for power-related issues. I can specifically see them talking about the long-term effects and ethics of Mind Control and the societal impacts... Much to discuss lol.

Saiki canonically enjoys karaoke and does an awful lot of funky dancing in the anime openings and endings. He might not want to go to the club, but he and Aiura definitely do karaoke and probably dance in there too lmao.

While Saiki might have issues later on with keeping up with his friends (like, calling them regularly and hanging out after they're not all in school together), there's no way Aiura would let him fall out of touch. She knows how he is, and she really seems like the kind of girl who stays in touch with all of the friends she's ever had, at least a little bit!

Okay I should probably stop here cuz this post is long enough but in conclusion Aiura & Saiki being besties is so important no matter what Saiki does romantically, thank you for coming to my TED talk lmao.

i was thinking about nhs/wwx parallels and i was just thinking like, how nhs felt as he uncovered more information about jgy and everything that happened w wwx. ppl say that post-canon wwx and nhs wouldn't be friends and while i disagree i think especially on nhs's end, he empathized deeply with wwx once he uncovered the truth. like even if he didn't know they shared extremely niche trauma (they were both forced to harm their siblings with flutes like ig jgy just decided to die on that hill), i think that when he actually dug into the past, he began to recognize wwx's cause, and his rage and pain. also while nhs probably understood wwx's revenge/anger in hindsight, i kind of like the idea that maybe wwx helped to shape nhs's morals/belief systems posthumously too...like you can still be good and also a little violent and messy! he probably also saw a lot of nmj in wwx and i definitely think his decision to bring wwx back wasn't a purely functional choice...like he didn't even really need wwx to do all that, really. i'm just thinking about the depth of emotion nhs probably had for wwx and his fate at that point that he kind of centered his revenge around wwx coming back to life like nhs isn't a bad person but i don't think he would do something like that unless he felt strongly about that person. idk all this is basically just to say that i think nhs came to strongly admire wwx after his death and also that they both Could (and should!) be utter besties post-canon.

extradiegetically i know mxtx just needed wei wuxian to come back regardless of how well it fit into nie huaisang's established character but intradiegetically... oh boy. you're right there is no way nie huaisang would let his 10+ yr long revenge plan hinge on the actions of an independent agent unless he, for some reason, really wanted that to happen. he might have wanted to let his childhood friend avenge himself, the same way nie mingjue's spirit returned to come for jin guangyao, but there's also an extra layer of irony to jin guangyao's downfall if one of the main contributors to the exposure of his crimes is the person jin guangyao helped slander to death.

there might also be an element of wei wuxian kind of being the universal problem-solver lol. have an issue that won't go away? just throw wei wuxian at it! his teenage interactions w nie huaisang do kind of illustrate a dynamic in which wei wuxian is powerful and in control and nie huaisang defers to him for solutions. ofc part of this is nie huaisang being sneaky and not wanting to do any work, but i can see an adult nie huaisang being confident in wei wuxian's abilities to achieve the impossible for him.

good observation abt them both being manipulated by jin guangyao and his posse into harming their older sibling w magic flute music! (insert doofenschmirtz if i had a dollar meme) the true extent of nie huaisang's knowledge re: wei wuxian's situation is a bit ambiguous but i can see him sympathising w wei wuxian, or taking his actions during the sunshot campaign as an example. either way they're going to have a lot to discuss over wine post-canon! i def think they're staying in touch, nie huaisang is literally the only person who can hang with wangxian and make lan wangji into a third wheel. that kind of talent cannot go to waste!

ACOWAR - Real Talk (SPOILERS)

I don’t like using a cut but this is a long post, so I’ll use it just this once. 

Everything aside, how I feel about ships, how I feel about characters, how I feel about everything, these are my thoughts. 

The diversity was so much better than in ACOTAR and ACOMAF. I went into this book afraid of so many things, of so many outcomes, of so many horrors, but...I was very pleasantly surprised. I could tell Sarah tried and honestly? Thank you. Thank you for trying, even all these years later, thank you for giving me this book. 

Thank you for giving me a bisexual black character. 

Thank you for giving me a black character in a position of power that wasn’t demonized (Yes. That happens)

Thank you for giving me a gay brown man (I’m not sure on Thesan’s race/ethnicity 100% and I want to do research but I think he’s Hindi). 

It’s not only Helion, Tarquin, and Thesan. It’s their entire Courts. Before ACOWAR, it was theories, rumors, fan casts, but now, it’s canon. It’s canon that three Courts are entirely people of color and even Kallias’s court, the WINTER COURT, has Fae of brown skin. 

It’s also canon that ALL THE ILLYRIANS are brown. Every last one of them, every last one. (There are a lot of thoughts on this, but this is not the time)

And a lot more people had brown skin! Like...almost everyone. I couldn’t even tell you how many times I cried, when all these characters...started to look like me. And that’s the best way I can describe it; this euphoria, this moment where everything just stands still....and you cry. 

SARAH ONLY USED TAN LIKE THREE TIMES. That’s a blessing in itself. 

AND SHE NEVER USED FOOD TO DESCRIBE US OH BOY. That was probably what I was most afraid of? Reading about Helion being “dark-chocolate” or Thesan being “caramel”. Even worse, someone thinking of them like food. It’s like...fetishizing us and its icky (unless you allow someone to call you a food nickname, which is a whole different thing). But she didn’t! She just used brown...deep brown, rich brown, etc. and I liked it. (She did use honey-brown, but I was okay with that). She also didn’t use the word exotic...bless. 

And she tried when it came to lgbt+ rep. As a straight person I obviously can’t say what needs to be said, but I can say what I thought. No, Nephelle nor Thesan’s lovers got names, but it was obvious that they were gay. I love how Helion, A BISEXUAL MAN, was never portrayed as a slut? He was never slut shamed? Yes, he wanted three/foursomes, but no one ever slut shamed him for it. No one ever looked down at him for liking both genders? Helion was forward with his attraction to Mor, Cassian, Azriel, Rhys, Feyre, AND THESAN. (The man has incredible taste)

I...liked Mor’s coming out story? Obviously there are things that....aren’t perfect. But I wasn’t really looking for perfect and I wasn’t sure what to expect. Probably one thing about it is I’m just sad Mor doesn’t feel like the Inner Circle won’t judge her, even when they don’t blink an eye at Thesan or Helion or Nephelle. So I hope a novella is about her, or she’s in the next series. Also the whole “me coming out would make Azriel sad” ??? 2+2=honey its your life who cares who it makes sad; just be happy. 

But I’ll leave that topic for people of the lgbt+ community to dissect and discuss.

Character wise...I don’t think anyone was really, completely OOC? I think there were moments where I was staring at the character like... “Okay who are you and what have you done with so and so?” (spoiler alert, it was Rhys)

Mor hating Nesta? I don’t like Nesta, but that was a bit harsh. I think you guys were robbed of that friendship. I can see how Mor was protecting her friend, her brother, Cassian, who she’s known for centuries, against this person she’s just met but....it wasn’t really Mor-like. Especially since it came off as jealousy. 

What Rhys did to Mor...was one of the most unforgivable things. I understand we’re at war, I do, but there is a line you have to draw for yourself. There is a line and bringing both of your cousin’s abusers into the same room, THAT’S THE LINE. Rhys and Azriel both betrayed Mor’s trust. And then took her safe place away from her. 

And then she had to work BESIDE Keir and Eris, no longer in control, no longer in power. I just...I’m still....not comfortable at all with this. Lines need to be drawn so stuff like THIS doesn’t happen. I don’t see Rhys forcing Feyre to work with Tamlin...and yet....he brings Eris and Keir right in front of Mor? And then kind of belittles and judges for being triggered? Next (and not entirely forgiven)

Nessian and Elriel. I don’t ship them, but I feel like you guys were robbed. 

Maybe it’s because I don’t ship them, but I don’t really see the set up for Elriel? I see them as the best team of besties ever. I see Elain as another sister to Azriel, someone who maybe can get past more barriers because he doesn’t like her like that. And as for Elain...guys let her breathe for a second. She’s still healing over Greyson, or whatever that miserable boy’s name is, and she still has to navigate a mating bond. I think they would be amazing best friends, because guys and girls can be best friends without them being related, but if you guys ship it....I can see it. That’s all I’m going to say. 

I think you guys were cheated out of Nessian. But I don’t think you guys were cheated at all....? I don’t like Nesta, but I can appreciate a character healing. I can appreciate a character who, as the fandom says, feels too much. I can appreciate Nesta’s PTSD and recognize it. But please, recognize Cassian’s PTSD, too, thanks? He almost died too; he almost lost his wings. And that’s why neither of them have thrown each other at the other. I think it’s very obvious they have some feelings...in a slow burn kind of way. And I think this slow burn could be really good so I’m really happy for Nessian shippers. 

And I don’t think Cassian was OOC. Everyone recognizes Azriel and his self-doubt, especially Moriel shippers. The main thing about Azriel and his mental block is that he think he doesn’t deserve to be loved. And I think Cassian feels that way, too, especially after failing to protect Nesta after he swore he would. 

He was willing to die to try to regain some of that honor and her trust. He almost did. Like....Twice! Yes, Nesta saw her father die, but....I think it’s reaching it to say it was OOC for Cassian not to go to her. He has his own internal struggle and Feyre herself said that they needed to give Nesta space. Sometimes going to a person right away....it’s not the best call. 

Jurian and Eris? No? Like I’m fine with Jurian...I can believe he was never the villain of their story. I can believe he has his own traumas and mental illness(es) and PTSD. Mostly because no matter how hard I try I can never remember what went down between Miryam, Drakon, and Jurian. I can barely remember how to spell their names. 

But Eris? No. Just...him being the “not the villain but also not the bad guy in the story, more like the anti-hero”, I wasn’t buying it. It came out of nowhere and it erases Mor’s trauma and Lucien’s. Eris didn’t deserve that little bit of ‘redemption’ he got, but Tarquin deserved more page time. So can I like...trade the two?

No?? Female?? Illyrians?? My heart still hasn't recovered. 

No one died? I’m not complaining, but I was sure Amren was going to die. 

There are so many winged creatures now I already forgot half of them. We have the Seraphim who I was already expecting to have feathered wings. We have the Peregryms...which reminds me of Miss Peregrine every time I look at it. We have whatever the FRESH HELL HELION TURNED INTO OH BOY I HAD A HEART ATTACK. Helion’s beast form would have me running for the hills. 

We have the “villains” who turned into “anti-heros”? I was more upset over the Carver and Weaver’s deaths more than anything in this book. Because their characters are always better. They only showed up to that battle to eat people, terrorize Fae, and get something out of it. The best™ kind. And then they....died. The Weaver’s death was so anti-climatic she deserved better. And Bryaxis YEETED so quick. Did we really think It would go back to that library? 

THE SURIEL. RIP Suri. You will be missed. The one death the entire fandom will never be over. 

Lucien. His trauma...wasn’t addressed at all. And I could let it slide...but there was time to address it. There was time before Lucien left the book to go find Vassa to address his trauma. For the love of god, Feyre saw what Ianthe almost did to him, she saw what Tamlin almost did to him...but Lucien ended up apologizing and being treated...horribly? Fix this. Immediately. Fox Boy deserved better. 

Lucien suddenly being biracial. I’m not going to complain, at all, because Biracial!Lucien gave me new life, it resurrected me on the cross. But...Lucien looked exactly like Beron in ACOTAR and ACOMAF. It was just pushed so hard, that “Lucien has dark skin now”, that is was pretty obvious Helion was his father (especially when the book was suddenly screaming at us that Helion was Helion SPELL-CLEAVER). 

Tamlin...Just...Can everyone just ship a bottle of aspirin to me? If you all do it, I’m pretty sure it’ll be enough to take my headache away. Hopefully. Maybe two bottles from all of you, just to be sure. 

I also felt like there was a different writer at some points? And the story kind of dragged in areas? Did anyone else feel that way?
