no but legitimately fizz/ozzie is so well-written and such a breathtakingly crafted romance that it only occurred to me today that the crooked scene was literally their first on-screen kiss. i have been so emotionally fulfilled by their interactions that it never even occurred to me to wonder when we'd get to see a kiss for them or wait for it as like the big "moment" of their romance arc i NEVER once felt like i was missing anything. and when they DID kiss it just felt so natural and genuine i am !!!!! AHHH

Joe's rant about the beauty of Hermitcraft being that it's unplanned and therefore more genuine/impactful because the Hermits' real reactions can be used as fuel to entertain... Like, paraphrasing here, but—
"When you're an artist in a collaboration, you're opening yourself up to opportunities to be upset. […] You should want us to really be feeling things; that's what makes Hermitcraft art."
—and going on to use Scar blowing up Doc's tunnel machine last season and the whole wood permit ordeal with Doc this season as examples...
I'm not saying I'm surprised at how mature they are (because they're an adult who has been at this for years and literally a single parent), but sometimes you just get hit with the reality that these content creators are, you know, mature adults who can take care of themselves. It's a nice reality check when there's so much content infantilizing and defending them, especially with how their 'characters' can range from very defined— Ren and Grian pulling story arcs and bits out of nowhere —to not defined at all —Joe who has spoken very recently about how they don't define what is 'canon' or 'lore' because that'll question aspects of their personal life in uncomfortable ways.
This pairs nicely with yesterday's stream about Joe talking about how we learn through public humiliation (after getting the definition of nether wrong) and that, paraphrasing again, "literally my entire life has been getting humiliated for being ignorant. If I thought that was a bad thing, I wouldn't be streaming".
Like, damn. They chose this. They knew what they were getting into, and they continue to choose this to the point they make it their gimmick. (Ex. The stream thumbnails literally being 'laugh at me'.)
There's definitely a thin line Joe treads with self-deprecation, but people have been using humour to cope for decades. Low self-esteem and negative self-image not included. You recognized you messed up, and rather than getting stuck on it, you use humour as a way— a tool in your arsenal —to move on.
You make mistakes and move on.

The more I consider the "Smoky gets Frostpaw sterilized against her will" thing, the more I dislike it even on a thematic level...
This book seems to be trying to put Frostpaw through an arc of learning to trust people. Riverstar magically appears in her dreams to send her to the Park Cats who are meant to teach her this lesson, but... starting and resolving that arc more than halfway through the book was sloppy, and a waste.
Instead of Smoky forcing medical treatment on her in spite of how she tells him point blank "please no," SHE should have called for the human.
A creature that the Clan cats have never trusted, that they have great reason to fear. Caught between dying with her pride like a good warrior and taking a risk on the kindness of an unknowable beast, in spite of all the betrayal, she chooses the chance.
Play it like this; Make it so the reason she becomes chosen by Riverstar at all is because he SEES this glimmer of potential within her, because of this very choice.
Instead of that bizarre opening chapter where he seems to have magically gifted her some kind of spiritual connection as a plot device, INSTEAD make it that they were sadly overseeing the end of her life. That this was her destiny, to die as a young, proud warrior apprentice. To trust no cat, as her mother told her.
But instead, she tricks the wording of the self-fulfilling prophecy Curlfeather told her. It said nothing about trusting a human!
THEN follow it up with teaching her how to trust cats again. But make the road down this character arc be something she truly initiated, instead of the weird bullshit they did with her being mad at Smoky for violating her consent while also exonerating him for "Doing The Right Thing :)"

One among many things I love about Dragons Risings writing is that they're so unapologetic about making the original team very cool, but also absolute dorks.
It's just kinda refreshing to me? Like, yeah, sure, Lloyd's the super-awesome Green Ninja who's a descendant of God, Kai could set the world on fire if he wanted, Nya does not hesitate and was the ocean that one time, Zane will casually mention the most insane shit he did on a whim, Cole has a lava and rock monster form, etc, but like...they're also losers. Lloyd gets bullied constantly and tries to explain what a crab is, Kai has so much intelligence but so little wisdom at all given times, Nya has a 'shit happens' attitude as if she is not actively failing through this shit happening, Zane talks to a broom with Pixal's face on it, and Cole has it together the most by being a 9-to-5 dad with a boyfriend who he 100% believed was his power crux.
They're just people, y'know? Saving the world a hundred times over doesn't mean they're not still 20-something nerds who've been stuck doing this since they were teenagers. One cannot erase the time they had bad boy doppelgangers for like two minutes. Or had to raise their teacher. Or had the weirdest relationship drama. Or were huge video game and tech geeks.
And Dragons Rising isn't afraid to let them be that. To acknowledge, yeah, objectively, they're cool as hell, but to also admit that they're just kinda fucking around and finding out. It's a wonder what consistent and likeable characterization can do, who woulda thought?
