god community has this way of writing character flaws that makes everyone so easy to connect with. annie is headstrong and uptight, troy is insecure and desperate to be loved, abed has trouble with people but desires connection, jeff uses sarcasm to mask his self-loathing, britta wants badly to make a difference but her activism is superficial, shirley defines her role in the group based on what she can give to others

and these are all supposed to be “bad” things, yet they’re the traits that make the study group so sympathetic and so human

#season one troy drives me insane #there’s something so universal about his longing for the affection of others #his attitude is somewhat toxic and arrogant but somehow he’s so loveable #because everyone can relate to that #similarly jeff is one of those people i just can’t hate in spite of everything #i just feel so much for these characters even when they’re in the wrong #abed too!! he makes mistakes but they all contribute to his arc #and britta for example could easily be insufferable #but i just can’t help loving all of the characters not just in spite of their flaws but because of them #ok that’s your bit of community obsessed rambling for rn #community nbc #community

My opinion on billy hargrove as a character is so complicated but I think I can boil is down as: he is one of the few realistic interpretations of an imperfect abuse victim where his actions make you uncomfortable and it can be generally agreed he doesn’t take Good actions, but even just the slightest bit of thinking can make you understand why he does what he does. Why it makes sense to him.

You can look at him and go “I empathize with you, I understand you, I could’ve been you if I didn’t have a support system” or even “I WAS you” or “I AM you” and I think the reason he is so controversially liked/disliked is there is some inherent belief that somehow despite the way you were raised, you’re supposed to just inherently know what’s right and wrong. And yeah, once you’re in recovery you tend to learn what’s right and wrong, but nowhere in Billy’s story does anyone ever tell him the way he’s being treated is wrong. No one tells him the actions he’s taking because of it are wrong. Or on the other hand, he is punished so universally for his behavior it is hard to discern when his actions are actually wrong, or if he’s being treated unfairly. He is never shown empathy or understanding until quite literally, the moment he dies.

The message of his story is that when you are isolated, abused, and angry, no one tries to help you until it’s already too late. So yeah, I think anyone can dislike a character for any reason they want, but writing him off as an abusive racist when the quite literally Point Of His Character is “this is what can happen to a person when they are never given kindness/empathy/support and it warps their morals and actions to be violent and/or prejudiced” is just. Wrong. Especially when that includes attacking people who empathize with his character.

Regardless of if you like it or not, there are real people who were like that, are like that, and they deserve love, support, and empathy as much as any “‘perfect’” abuse victim that never perpetuated the cycle. Anger is simply a product of the fear that comes with abuse. Redirecting that anger at others is a learned behavior that comes with coping with that abuse, it’s not right, but you can’t unlearn it unless you’re given a chance to heal. Every abuse victim deserves support and a chance to heal and learn from their past actions and mindsets. Understanding a mindset is not the same thing as condoning it.

So please for the love of god, leave people alone when they write a happy ending for someone they see themselves in.

So I do have original stories and characters along w my Twst stuff. And I think my OCs Valkyrie and Mercury are so fucking funny

Val was the first OC I ever made in my life and Mercury was the 2nd (her name used to be spelled mercerie cuz dyslexia) and I was 7 when I made them.

Somehow, 7 year old me decided he was going to deliberately give Val massive bazingas. Noticeably bigger honkers than anyone else. And she was also trad goth off the get to so 7 yr old me created a big tiddie goth gf

Then I decide “ok, super tall big tiddie goth girl, she’s me”

So I give Valkyrie my exact fucking personality. Then I gave Mercury what I believed to be the exact opposite of my personality

Fast foward all this time later: Mercury is just like me FR and Val could not be more different past how we dress. Neither of their base characters changed it was me that did (for ref Val is ENFP and Mercury is INTP which I am also INTP)

Also somewhere in development they became girlfriends

But moving on, this has now developed into one of my most thought out stories yet of all the ones I have. It’s an in depth lore that has elemental themes and fantasy magic powers and giant crows and four planets based on the elements and yeah it’s super fun! Also it started as mine craft fanfiction.

Yeah big tiddie goth girl is just a fucking humanized enderman. And her short green haired gf is a creeper. And the two other main characters are a blaze and guardian. They are fucking minecraft mob girls that I turned into seperate OCs and slapped an elemental theme onto.

Listen, I don’t know much about Death Stranding. I haven’t finished it, even though I’ve had the game for 2 years now, and am still (not counting the gold mask lion BT) blind for basically all of it. (I love the game, just don’t have time) So I could be wrong and this is in the story or something.

I just think it’s interesting that Kojima didn’t some how involve the several extinction events in Earth’s history in his game about the dead interacting with the living. Like I know the whole “once there was an explosion” intro, but other than that, maybe a document, and some like flavor text from one(?) delivery, they’re not mentioned.

Like Kojima, The Great Dying is sitting right there, you can still use the whole ocean/beach concept since ~90% of the marine species at the time died. The Kpg extinction also (the most famous one). I don’t know if the “a bang which gave rise to life as we know it” part of the intro is referring to the ending of the Cretaceous or is about the beginning of life from single cell to multicellular.

Can you imagine the beach littered with the corpses of present and ancient marine species. All equal in Death, despite the millions of years gaps, they all lived on the same Earth as you and I. Flesh and bone. Mortal.

What if those BTs that chase you down if you get caught were like a Shonisaurus, maybe one of the smaller species of Mosasaur there were, or hell a carnivorous theropod from the Cretaceous or something instead. It just seems fitting in my head and a missed opportunity tbh. But I’m not Kojima so who knows if it actually fits to what he’s going for.

Augh. I want to write so many Fics. I have so many ideas for them, mainly Transformers & PMD: Explorers. But, most of my ideas come with my OC’s, I feel like I’m better at writing them... most of the time, to me, it still fills like I don’t write any of them that well. And so I think, ‘Oh, well okay, I can try to think of some plots for mine.’

But then I end up going, every single time, ‘Eh... I don’t think most people wanna read Fics about my OC’s all that much, they probably want canon characters instead.’

And then I think that I could try to do a Fic involving Canon Characters, either just them, or still with OC’s- but the OC’s are more in the back. But, I’ve never really written Canon Character’s all that much, and I’m so nervous about making them all wrong/too OOC.
