something i can't stop thinking about is the fact that Percy Jackson started as a comfort story for Rick's son to show him that his adhd and dyslexia doesn't have to be just a bad thing and the fandom then took Percy and Leo and made them into these stupid idiots that don't even know basic math or "big" words and wouldn't be able to even tie their shoelaces without someone else's (someone smarter's) help
don't yall see how fucked up that is? a big part of this fandom has adhd and/or dyslexia and/or other learning disabilities/neurodivergence and find comfort in those characters. they are called lazy and stupid all the time and then yall decided to take characters with those disabilities and ignore their inteligence and made them into something they are not just because their adhd is more "visible" (read more stereotypical looking) (even tho that's not true either because the fandom made them into chaotic gremlins but in reality Percy is more just sarcastic and snarky and even that is more just his internal monologue for his own amusment and to cope and Leo just uses humor as a coping mechanism to hide his depression and other issues but that's a discussion for another time)
Percy is canonically very smart and strategic. no he isn't very good at school. it's what happens when you're neurodivergent and have learning disabilities. that doesn't mean he's stupid. no he doesn't know everything about greek mythology and that doesn't make him stupid either. but when Annabeth tells him the myth he is very good at coming up with strategies and how to win a fight. he's not smart as Annabeth because Annabeth is literally a daughter of the goddess of wisdom so stop fucking comparing them. are you also going to call Annabeth weak and incapable because she can't control water? no you won't because that's fucking stupid. and Leo. fucking Leo. is literally canonically a mathematic genius and also genius when it comes building stuff. they're both smart. they're not fucking stupid. they know and understand words that are longer than 5 letters. no they do not struggle with basic knowledge. they're not fucking stupid.
and miss me with the "it's just a joke" bullshit
jokes are supposed to be funny
and it's not just a joke for many of you because the number of fanfics where they are written in exactly this way is too fucking high. it's actually surprising to find a fanfic where they are written right
in conclusion: the way this fandom portrays Percy and Leo is reinforcing the harmful misconception that people with adhd and/or other learning disabilities are stupid and i hate it with a burning passion
call me sensitive all you want i'll gladly accept it i will rather be called sensitive for hating that those characters are being treated this way than follow the fandoms harmful idea about them
thank you for coming to my ted talk <3

in regards to the constant dismissal of his aroace identity, i hate it when alastor 'fans' say and use the excuse: "he's fictional, he won't get offended."
like, you're right, but it can and will offend us.
when you see yourself being represented on screen, of course you'd feel enthusiastic about it β representation allows individuals to see themselves reflected in the media they consume, validating their identities and experiences. but when so many people take that representation and decide to disregard and discard it, it is so fucking frustrating. we finally have another character to be part of the tiny amount of representation we have, but then people don't even care about how much it means to us? like yeah, alastor won't get offended because he's not real, but it frustrates and annoys us. do you realize that it's also technically invalidating the aroace community? that you're invalidating our feelings? imagine feeling like you're finally being seen because your orientation is finally being represented in media, and people just decide to blatantly ignore, discard, and invalidate it.
media has such a powerful influence on real life, representation being a prevalent factor of it. there are numerous posts that dictate how people went to watch a movie/show or read a book just because a character depicts their identity in it β obviously, being represented is an incredibly uplifting and validating experience.
which is why seeing an aroace character in a popular show is so meaningful to us because we live in a world where romance and sex are literally everywhere and prioritized above all else. (and it's pretty obvious that alastor's on the repulsed end of the spectrum, but even if he wasn't, at least make an effort to acknowledge his sexuality instead of continuing to portray him as allo; aroace folks can be in relationships but it's not going to be the same thing with allos' experiences.)
any and every representation matters, but why does that seem to stop at people under the aroace spectrum? like y'all can't even let us appreciate the scraps of representation we have. we barely have any, so are we really that dramatic for being upset at how people easily disregard and dismiss our identities that are being depicted on screen just like that? is it truly wrong of us to want to defend and maintain the little representation we have?

fave spones fic written in 1988 you say π do you have a link to share? i'm obsessed with old spones fic and how the interpretation of this ship and their relationship changed with time!
oh, yes! It's primarily mirror!spones actually, but the atmosphere is very different from mirror fics written these days
It's called Through A Glass, DarklyΒ and you can find it here (based on the author's wishes I'm linking to the list rather than to the fic itself) - there are four stories in the series (I think it's like 65k or more in total), the second one-shot is from the Prime universe. What I find nice about this fic is that they already use the name Nyota for Uhura, so it doesn't even feel dated in that regard. It also has great worldbuilding regarding the Vulcans and Spock's family. As for warnings... there's nothing actually explicitly dark or explicitly non-consensual, but it's been a while since I read it, so proceed with caution; oh yeah, and it deals with pon farr (the last part - but the previous parts are leading toward it - Spock found a mind match in McCoy). Also, McCoy gets friendly with a Vulcan child - the last fic takes place mostly on Vulcan.
Another spones story from them I like is A Man of Integrity, which is mirror!Spock/McCoy Prime - the usual, McCoy got left behind. Well, "usual", it could be one of the first ones written.
I think Yesterday is based on All Our Yesterdays, which also includes spones, but also Spock/Zarabeth/McCoy (I think), but there's also Spock having a bond with Kirk (who isn't there ofc) which is a pet peeve of mine, so I haven't read this one.
and since I'm sharing links, there's also this site with McCoy/Spock fics I enjoy, but these were written in early 2000s (possibly late 90s, I can't be sure). My faves are Teshuvah, The Secrets of Pine Cones, Spock of Baker Street, and Nosferatu in Space, but most of them are worth the read. These are just the longer ones.

Imagine if Mango becomes a father figure to Dark and then learns about what they did.
THAT'D BE SO FUCKED UP TBH. assuming this is still king merc but. i feel like he'd just kind of stop talking to them out of nowhere and suddenly start avoiding crossing paths with them much to Dark's dismay... Dark doesn't even get anything on why if they weren't there when King found out...
i mean. then again he probably found out through Chosen's memories. which I'm sure is only worse for everyone involved....... and they'd see the horrified look King gives them, and suddenly they'd feel some weird sense of almost shame, which is weird because they never care about being good enough, they've always been free to do whatever they want without feeling like they had to be good enough for someone (except for when they were trying to impress their older sibling-- they had worked so hard on the virabots and Chosen just got MAD-- they were certain they did nothing to deserve it but the more time passes the more they start to doubt it...)
