So, he has a new series out so I was reminded of my obsession with Ding Yuxi again and in watching some YT video about the new series I was again struck by how fascinating it is to me how different his looks can be. For example, when I watched the first series with him in the main role (The Romance of Tiger and Rose; which yes, I'll readily admit, I agreed to watch in a large part because I saw him on the poster and was like, well, I wouldn't mind seeing more of this 😏), there were two ~versions of him – in the historical and the modern setting:

And like yeah they all wear those wigs in historical dramas so that's not particularly remarkable, right. Little did I know that this was just a tiny tip of the iceberg

Because then when I went to look him up afterwards on YT etc. and the first pictures I saw were these:

about which I was at first like, is that even him? Like the face is just ... not the same in these? But ok, what do I know, anyway ... And then I watched an interview where he has yet another different look, and that seemed kind of in between, so that "bridged the gap" in a way. And then! – in that same interview – they juxtaposed him with another of his earlier looks:

and it's like, who tf is this person ?

It's just, idk, really amazing how much just different hairstyles, lighting, makeup, accessories will do. Obsessed

Other interview looks are nothing extreme

And obviously there's supposed to be more variety when looking at the different roles

But still, sometimes I'm just like, this is one person .....

And like, sure, these looks obviously aren't impossibly different, but comparing the different ends of the spectrum can be pretty wild

In any case, the one that brought all of this about was this latest one:

You ever start a drawing, and then get so carried away with it that all of a sudden, what was supposed to be a low effort piece, is now a shaded, rendered, G.I.F.?

POV: That one time Jay started that electrical fire in the training room and then blamed it on Kai. Nya has found out who the true culprit is. ;)

(I didn't draw the background or anything, it's just a blurred image of the monastery. I didn't want to try and draw it myself, cause I'm not that good at backgrounds yet. And it would have taken me forever.)

It all started with this post.

It mentioned how awesome it is when people draw Jay (Ninjago) and Luke Skywalker (Star Wars) with lightning scars.

(Which I totally agree with!)

I had never heard of people drawing Luke Skywalker with lightning scars (y'know, from the Emperor's force lightning and all.), and I loved the concept! I had to draw my own versions immediately!

So I decided to draw the two of them rockin' their cool scars because they're two of my favorite characters ever!

I started on Jay.

And then I kept going.

And going.

(For some reason, when I made it a gif, it zapped the quality, sorry about that)

I had a lot of fun experimenting with different shading techniques on these 2, and I want to use some of them in the future.

Ding, ding! The poll results are in and we have a winner! It's daffodils for Astarion! 🥳

To be honest, I was a little surprised by this result. I sort of expected a foxglove sweep, but daffodils are so fitting. I kind of love the imagery for this idea. The symbolism is delicious! 😙👌 Great choice, everybody!

Before I get into my thoughts on that symbolism, though, I've been thinking about the next possible piece. I think I'd like to do Wyll next. He deserves more art, and I'd like to stretch my artistic muscles a little. (I may regret saying that by the time I get finished with Astarion's, though.) It's surprisingly difficult to find flowers that fit Wyll both symbolically and aesthetically ... I'm still looking into it a bit, but you can look for that poll in the next few days. I'd love to hear suggestions, of course!

Also, would anyone want to see WIP sketches, or should I just post the finished product (such as it may be)? I've always been a little hesitant to post "unpolished" work like sketches, but after working on NaNo this past month, it seems public accountability does motivate me to get off my rump and do the thing. I just don't know that anyone is actually interested. Well, anyway, just a thought...

I'mma ramble a little bit about daffodil symbolism and why I like it for Astarion, but naturally I'm putting that bit beneath a cut for length.

So, let me start by saying flower symbolism is an absolute mess. Obviously I couldn't fit all of the potential meanings in the poll description, but a lot of times, flower meanings are contradictory. No matter where you look, you'll find another source that says something different. I tried to get the general gist, but that meant leaving a lot of things out.

That said, daffodils are interesting because their meanings are in such opposition to each other. They're symbols of hope and despair. They're both for renewal and being backward-looking. It's contradictory, and that push and pull is interesting.

Also, as I sort of implied in the poll, daffodils are a group of flowers that fall under the group called Narcissus -- named after the Greek myth of Echo and Narcissus, from which we derive the term narcissist. For those who don't know the basic story, the nymph Echo falls in love with Narcissus, who is beautiful but vain. She approaches him, but he spurns her because he is too arrogant. Depending on which version of the myth you go by, either she curses him herself or he is punished by the gods for breaking her heart. Either way, he winds up falling in love with his own reflection and pining away, with the Narcissus flower blooming where he dies, entranced into immobility and unable to look away from himself.

A fitting irony for Astarion -- someone who was vain and dismissive of others, who ended up cursed for his arrogance. It's ironic, in that Astarion's curse denies him the ability to see his own reflection. Instead of death, he is transformed by unlife. He is a sort of inverted Narcissus, punished for his vanity, not allowed to ever see his own reflection again and not allowed to die but, in an ironic sort of way, this is the thing that allows him the opportunity to change and grow -- a renewal, a transformation.

Astarion is a Narcissus who was forcibly humbled, denied his reflection, forced to use his once greatest asset as a weapon against himself, then given a chance to repent, to change. Unlike the actual Narcissus, who was forced to drown in his own folly and arrogance without ever realizing his punishment, denied the chance to change or redeem himself, Astarion gets a second chance. Of course, the player can give him a push to transform into a better version of himself, or to embrace his worst aspects. The player is his mirror, symbolically and even in-game (the mirror scene), allowing him to become whatever they reflect back to him.

There's something pleasing about the parallels, but the inversions are even more pleasing, in my personal opinion. Anyway, it's all very tasty and giving me a lot of ideas.

the carat-dec joke was so precious (mdr), les rapports se réchauffent !!! I’m glad there weren’t proper callbacks to earlier eps this time (except for the bookshelves!!), it left room for New stuff. plus some bits felt comfortingly familiar, like adam’s gestures when he asked morgane to get to the point (la petite graine !) 🥲❤ oh, & re: céline’s slippery slope… confirms she and adam are basically the same person. royal couple of getting roped into dates with people they’ve antagonized 😆

don’t you think "ça voulait dire quelque chose" was a bit too much? I wish both of them were in the dark about the other’s feelings. how are we gonna get that sweet, sweet pining if they know mutual affection is a real possibility? (+ don’t want roxane to become The Obstacle) we need a couple irremediable misunderstandings, stat 😈 tho the shot where they’re finally face to face outside was 😙👌 five feet apart but they were feeling awfully close 🥰🥰🥰❤

God, le parloir !! 😱😱 I'm glad I already knew about that scene before otherwise I would have died on the spot 😭 The way they look at each other, the way they talk, and you're right the evolution too, Adam compulsively yelling "I don't want to be involved with this" while actually being totally involved with this, Morgane being so angry, Adam qui s'exécute à toutes les conneries qu'elle lui demande sans rechigner (se baisser alors qu'on entend très bien, lui montrer le dossier à travers la vitre, arrêter de la regarder -- speaking of, arrêtez de me regarder j'arrive pas à me concentrer si c'est pas un aveu qu'il la trouble 🥹🥹, demander à Théa de planquer une pièce à conviction...)

100% agreed re Adam's gesture, I too thought about the little seed joke!! And also I'm not sure I'd say their interactions are warming up, but they do seem to fall into reassuring, familiar patterns 🥲💕 Also the fact that Adam basically ran to the prison since Morgane's not even done with her check-in that he shows up in the parlor 🥹🥹

Oh gosh I didn't notice the ginormous parallel between Céline and Adam's date, to me Céline's arc felt like something exactly similar that happens in Engrenages, but I love how it applies to Adam and Roxane (hopefully not with the same outcome though?)

Now for "ça voulait dire quelque chose"... Oh boy...😱

I don't think it was too much at all, considering how Adam's previous words (ep 1 flashback) literally drove Morgane to quit and disappear for six months, and it probably would've lasted forever if it wasn't for this providential case. And I think he's aware of that, aware of his mistake, so this is his attempt at making up for what he said ("ça voulait rien dire") which obviously hurt her. I think she needed to hear that it actually meant something. And also for him it's perhaps the first time he's vocalizing out loud that he actually cares about Morgane, and that she's not just a pain in the ass. (Okay actually he said it before. It's just that he told her the exact opposite an hour later so the message may have gotten a bit confused lol).

ALSO HE TOLD HER THAT LOSING HER WAS HIS BIGGEST REGRET IN LIFE AND NOW I CAN DIE IN PEACE THANK YOU VERY MUCH 😱🥹😭⚰️

And I don't think this is going to end all their misunderstandings, because he instantly tempers it with the words "collègue" et "amie". After how hard he broke her heart, Morgane is probably done living on false hopes, so she's not gonna try and read more in those words than what he actually said. And what he said was I care about you as a friend (sure Jan).

So for me they're both still in the dark re each other's feelings. They probably picked up on the fact that they do not hate each other (well, Adam probably thinks she does now, but that she actually didn't when he kissed her lol), but they most certainly have no idea of how deep they're actually pining for the other's affection 💔

Also this whole scene 😘😘😘 And the five feet apart shot, the way they slowly walk towards each other, et leurs pas sont absolument SYNCHRONES ???? No wonder it's literally the first thing I giffed from that new season 😭❤️

It's crazy how you could remove all of the counselors, save Ryan, from the game and the main, overarching plot wouldn't change. Including Max.

Okay, if you wanna get technical, Ryan would not be there if it weren't for Jacob tampering with the van and he would not have done so if not for Emma. But in terms of what they contribute to resolving the issues of the main plot, it's next to nothing (except Ryan). They're side characters. Cannon fodder. Because it's a horror game and people need to die/get put in dangerous situations. This is in no way an insult to them! They're fine characters and every story needs it's side characters. Some of the most lovable characters to exist in games, movies, t.v. shows, what have you, are side characters! They’re just... 😙👌.

But the point I'm trying to make by saying this is that Travis and Laura ARE the plot. The entire game revolves around their love story and ability to work together in Chapter 10 to resolve said plot. And their ability to work together revolves around whether or not they become the namesake of their tarot card - The Lovers.

It's straight impossible to beat the game otherwise. Either one of them dies or both of them die. They cannot BOTH still be breathing past Chapter 9 if they don't become The Lovers, if not promised to each other romantically. The game has a love story it wants to tell and literally blocks our progress if it can't due to us fucking up that love story.

And that includes Laura choosing Max over Travis because, duh. It is fine and valid if you wish to do so but the game is saying, You want Max? Well, that's fine, we made an ending for you. But you're not beating our game until you do it the way WE want.

This is why Laura and Travis' subtitle colors match his trophy, Above the Law, and not Laura’s with Max.

And you only get his trophy if you make it to Chapter 10.

How is Hackearney still debated? If you don’t like it, fine, but don’t pretend it isn’t there.

Both from outwardly "good" families, but with less than stellar parenting in reality, both leaned into a persona to hide from hurt, both kind and loving under it all, who get to finally show that side of themselves via connecting with their found family 😙👌

Eddie is tougher, I would say maybe Bucky Barnes? The trauma, the sass, the deep rooted guilt all wrapped up in someone who cares so much about the people who are important to him (not to mention the codependent gay AF relationship with his bestie and potential for a beautiful narrative about repression and finding happiness in an unexpected place, just... Yeah.)

1. Revealer by Madison Cunningham. I first knew her as the guitarist for Andrew Bird, who I've been obsessed with since 2019. She has the same mix of lyrical and musical prowess but still complete lack of pretentiousness that I love in him. She's an excellent guitarist and I love her voice too.

2. Household Name by Momma. Someone sent me their audiotree session bc one of the frontwomen was wearing a pinback shirt. They're so good! I love their vocal harmonies and the layered guitars. I can definitely hear the pinback influence <3

3. Perfume by NCT Dojaejung. Probably my favorite kpop release of this year so far (maybe tied with Kai's or Ateez's), Dive and Can We Go Back are just constantly stuck in my head. People who only know them by the 127 noisy title tracks are MISSING OUT. No one in kpop does sultry, sexy R&B like them, truly, and this unit was all about that. Just... delicious 😙👌

4. Ctrl by SZA. Speaking of R&B, that's most of what I've been listening to these days. I gave a fair chance to SZA's new album and although I did like it, it mostly reminded me of how much more I love this one, so I just went back to it.

Hdbdjx during the end of the royal arc he's basically inducted into the Replacement Phantom Thieves squad bec the pts are currently not doing so hot at that point and his entire fighting style is just "GET YO FUCKIN DOG BITCH"

Idk I think that's just an interesting avenue to go down, you feel me? In the context of the self aware au he DOES go a little crazy to protect Player but it's also a bit of a sense of "holy shit. I did that??? Me???" that contrasts so hard with his past feelings of powerlessness and inadequacy that is just 😙👌 muah chef's kiss. And having him PROTECT someone? After the battle's over he's seeing that they're safe because of HIM? And also he don't treat Mishima like canon does in this house, he gets APPRECIATED and THANKED and SOUGHT OUT FOR SAFETY?? Makes him 404 a little to be honest.

Funny you bring that up, actually! I was writing my Mishima fic and was making a scene about him yelling at others! He loses his shit after someone repeatedly disrespected his boundaries that he very clearly set and explained out lodu to everyone. The goal here was to show he's not getting stepped over by anyone again, and he finally speaks up for any toxic/abusive behavior.

Patrivan Drives Me Nuts, And Here's Why: Part 4

S5E3: Tie Me Up [1,2,3]

->Because Patrick Gets Spacezoned

My real frustration on Ivan starts in this episode. I don't want to talk about this episode, tbh, because it was just bad for Patrivan. But I guess the good episode (ahem, 5 😏) tastes this *sweet* because of the bad episodes before it (3&4). Dude. Like, the way Ivan ate his own words? 😙👌 Yeah, I can't wait to talk about that one.

Anyway, for ep 3, I just really wanna talk about two things: 1. how I think Patrick genuinely wants to try just being friends with Ivan, and 2. how I think Ivan is desperate to protect his sexuality.

Firstly, Patrick still likes Ivan. What Ivan said: "you can't get your head around the fact that nothing's ever going to happen between us" is harsh but isn't a lie. However, I think Patrick is trying to be just friends this time, even with his lingering attraction to Ivan. He's never had a friend like Ivan for as long as he's in the series - at least, not that is shown to us. And they clearly enjoy each other's company, so I think that's what Patrick's trying to do. Have a great time with an actual friend - that, yes, granted he still likes, but I don't think he plans on pushing boundaries like he did in episode 2.

Which is why Ivan's rejection hit really hard. Because Ivan doesn't only reject the idea of any romantic relations between them (again), he also turns down the comfortable kind of friendship that they're starting to have with each other.

Patrick doesn't get friendzoned. No, he gets worse. He gets the "we need to have some space" speech. Babe gets spacezoned. Like, fr. 😂

Anyway, the second thing. This episode, Ivan kisses Ari. And that's fucked up. Even more so, that he does because he wants to prove his point that he likes girls. I don't think it's a bluff that he's attracted to Ari, no, but I do think he's trying to make it a bigger deal than it actually is. After the ep 2 debacle (aka when Rebe points out that he *might* not be as straight as he believes after that sensual dance with Patrick), and this episode when Ari teases him for liking Patrick and possibly getting a hard on for him, Ivan is determined to clench his fist around his sexuality.

"Why does everyone assume that I'm gay?" So far, it's happened twice on-screen and who knows how many more off-screen for him to react like this. But the thing is, that's not what they're actually pointing out to Ivan. What they're saying is that he's reciprocating Patrick's attraction by his actions. They don't assume he's gay, they assume he likes Patrick, and those are two different things. But Ivan's alarmed either way.

So, when he spots a smidge of attraction towards Ari, he clings to it. Because Ari actually makes sense. Right? Because Ari's a girl.

To us it doesn't make sense for him to get so obsessed after one, possibly (seemingly) farcical kiss. But to Ivan it does. Cuz it means he's not gay, and he's not attracted to Patrick like that.

Pfft.

We got biker Sage, biker Lucan and now get ready for....👀Biker Elowen (bc I am still a simp for her even after fictif died lmaoooo)

Tagging @evanox and @poisonouswritings bc idk who requested for the AU but they wrote some so SHOW THEM SOME LOVE SMH!!😤💕💕💕👌

🖤She was skeptical at first when Lucan got a motorcycle, scared he'll end up in dome accident but Lucan proved her wrong to the point he made Elowen start riding too

🖤Ofc, this was very early on in their life when Elowen had some sort of issues, so Elowen quickly found out that night rides are a good way to blow off some stream.

🖤She and Sage sometimes come across one another while night riding...she just flips him off and continues with a smug face under her helmet.

🖤HER HELMET!! Thanks to Lucan both Elowen and Lucan have similar helmets with cat ears. She things it's so funny to see a a big muscular guy rolling around with cat ears on his helmet.

🖤Although she is not a part of the Griefers, Elowen has fun riding with them it's a good thing to see them standing against creepy people on the streets. So while the big meatbags do the protecting, while she is just as capable she just goes with being the brains. (Along with Tulsi once she joins them)

"Balsam, Sage back off from the lady, give her some room to breathe."

"LUCAN! Put the child down you'll drop him-"

"No Balsam I really do not care if your jacket has flare or extra pockets."

🖤So if they ever walk into a cafe/diner YOU work at and Elowen sees you... oh boy

🖤Lucan immediately knows what's going on. The MOMENT Elowen gives you a soft smile while ordering Lucan starts smirking instantly.

🖤If Sage decides to flirt with you he is getting stopped by Lucan. "Dude what are you doing we are witnessing history in the making." "What-" "Look at Elowen." "...oh my God."

🖤She is soft. And the whole Griefer gang is now scared asf what??? Is going on??? That one time Elowen decides to wink at you after you serve her you swear to God your heart feels like you are running a marathon.

🖤So everyone knows why she often insists to go to the diner you work in with the excuse of "good coffee" (but you actually do make amazing coffee the Griefers always down it in one go before riding lol)

🖤But eventually you get close to her enough for her to offer a ride to you. Now if you look at the Boyz™️ - I mean the Griefers they. Are. C e l e b r a t i n g. ✨️ And Elowen smacks them bc "Wtf do you mean ElOweN FinAllY gOt A DaTe I'm just taking MC out for a ride- wait." "Sounds like a date doesn't it? I mean that might depend on what they're riding too but hey-" Sage gets double smacked...but he's right it does sound like a date.

Wolfy watches "Gargoyles"-part II

-Got through the rest of Season 1 as well as the first episode of Season 2

-Goliath continues to be a badass muscle mountain. And I love it!

-I mean seriously: those muscles and claws were able to SLASH.THROUGH.STEEL. And that deep voice, growls and angry glowy eyes=😙👌. And besides that he's so caring towards his clan and enjoys reading and...I think I should continue, otherwise this ramble will be all about Sexy Muscle Gargoyle

-I was really worried that Elisa was going to send the gargoyles away, only for some kind of event to happen that makes her think "Maybe the clan should stay in the castle after all...". But instead she got them a new home atop of police station.

-AND she got Hudson a brand new TV! I swear I start to adore her more and more as the time goes on: she's so sweet and kind, yet just and badass.

-The youngsters continue being adorable rascals I would LOVE to be friends with.

-Hudson's backstory with the archmage was cool. He was definely a good leader and still is a good guide to Goliath.

-Someday I will get a Bronx figurine, he's such a cutie.

-Okay, onto the episodes(FINALLY): they were good. I really love the consistency of the show and how almost every action plays into what someone does in the future. I especially LOVE the dark themes: finally something that doesn't shy away from it

- So, X is out of prison. Oh shoot....

-Are the people of NY dumb?! They have seen the clan multiple times and yet there's no investigation opened about them? Not to mention strange "statues" that seemingly move by themselves? I guess big city life makes you either dumb or your life is way to stressful to care, police will deal with it anyway...

- Derek definetly began visiting the clan after meeting them in person because hey, they're fucking gargoyles! He also definelty got them a boxing bag at some point.

- So far it's been great. I will keep on watching rhe series whenever I get the time.

Do the ROs like to go to the beach? What do they like the most about it? Who first sets up the place they're staying and who jumps in the water as soon as they arrive? What kind of clothes do they wear (covered head to toe/tiny bikini/etc)?

Really missing summer right now 😭

Also, what would they think about going to this type of beach (https://youtu.be/CuyTC8FLICY)? (I know most people like to go to calm beaches but there's just something about feeling like an ant at Piscinão de Ramos or Praia Grande that's 😙👌😔✋)

All of the RO’s like going to the beach, but Nora enjoys it the most (assuming it’s not very crowded). She mainly likes to sit in the sand and feel the warmth of the sun on her skin/listen to the sound of the waves. She’ll get in the water, too, of course. Bikinis are her go-to.

Sameer, who didn’t really get to go to the beach as a kid, likes to make up for that now by doing more kid-like activities - building sandcastles and all that. Clothing-wise, he sticks to standard swim trunks.

Blair likes to take the opportunity to relax. Read a book, maybe pack a picnic. They don’t disconnect from the hunting world very often, so going to the beach is a nice way for them to do that. They’ll typically wear something like this:

If the three of them went to the beach together (I think that’s what you’re asking), Nora would be the one to plan everything. She regularly plans hypothetical vacations, so planning an actual one would be easy for her. Sameer would be the first one to get in the water.

I think the beach in that video would be too much for Nora and Blair, but Sameer would probably fit in well enough (though he might have to change his outfit, lol).

Giada: zio Abba! Papa said I'm a princess

Abbacchio: he's right about that,

Bri: I'll get Giordano,

Giada: *climbs onto Abbacchio * if papa's a king and mama's a queen then what does that make you?

Giordano: he's the knight! They're the best ones because they can fight and have cool armor and swords!
