okay so like idk how cannon aligned this is but idc the timelines and character ages in new vegas are so contradictory. also sorry i wrote so much i have wayyy to many thoughts about this

i feel like pre grand canyon, joshua really encouraged vulpes and ulysses to get along, thinking that they could learn a lot from each other, and given that they were both very socially closed off, the socialization would benefit them. They'd end up developing a sort of sibling-ish dynamic where despite the fact that they're bickering more often than not, they still have a lot of care and respect for each other. which leads to joshua kind of adopting Ulysses as his second psuedo-son.

ulysses and joshua dont get as close as joshua and vulpes, given that ulysses has a family and tribe and all that outside of the legion but he still looks up to joshua.

After the whole grand canyon thing, vulpes is a lot more torn up emotionally and starts pushing ulysses away, not wanting to go through the emotional pain of losing someone becuase they 'failed Ceasar," again.

they sort of grow apart after that, with the whole thing at dry wells making ulysses genuinely hate vulpes and entirely cut him off. vulpes doesnt really understand why ulysses had the reaction he did and is lowkey kind of hurt by it.

Darius as a dad?

He wants one at most, no matter if its biological or adopted. He doesn't like the how things turned out between Marcus and him, so no sibling rivalries in his home. His kid wants siblings? Tough shit, play with your cousins.

Darius doesn't want to be anything like his dad, so he is open to gentle parenting. He doesn't want to hit his kid. He may snap and yell on occasion when too overwhelmed, especially if its over something that could have caused serious harm to his kid.

He's the dad other parents don't like leaving their kids with because their kids come back knowing some of the most disturbing facts, as Darius has no filter and will tell them graphic details about murder cases he worked on. Sometimes he just tells them facts he thought was cool he read about and then gets really confused as an angry parent yells at him for it over the phone. The kids found it interesting that dolphins are bastards, why is he being yelled at? As you can tell, he's not the most socially competent. Perhaps undiagnosed neurodivergence. But his borderline-awkwardness gets him a lot of laughs.

Of course, this means he's the preferred house to hang out at because kids like his honesty and also his barbecues. He's an introvert at heart though, so they can only come over once a week. At first. He accidently becomes something of a scout leader as a hobby for the gaggle (as he affectionately refers to them as).

His kid and their friends will be able to rope him into playing TTRPPGs. He'll pick orc ranger types every time. If you play too and flirt with his character, he'll implode. Man kidnapped you but can't handle your fictional characters flirting. Of course you two keep it PG around the kids, but once they're gone he's not opposed to the role-play extending to the bedroom. His buddy Dean will also want to come over and play (Dean likes warlocks and bards and makes up the funniest backstories).

He bonds well with his kid's friends, and if one of them comes over upset about something he'll totally offer to beat up the person responsible. Sure, he only has one kid, but this little gaggle that has formed around him are psuedo-kids at this point. Which means, yeah, they unfortunately get his lectures, too. Especially once the teen years hit.

Bad influence friend? No, friend without a hobby. They're coming camping. He knows it works, it worked on Dean. Oh yeah, Dean used to be a little trouble maker till Darius took him under his wing. Dean is the little brother Darius always wanted, but unfortunately he got Marcus instead.

Darius is in control of the TV in the living room. This is not up for debate. If his kid wants to watch something they can fuck off to their room or watch it on a laptop with headphones. But when they're toddlers he'll sit them in his lap and watch animal documentaries with them every morning. He enjoys having family movie nights on Saturdays with a take-away. The choice of movie is based on a rotation, and he'll grumble about picks he doesn't like but he'll respect the rotation rule and watch.

He's the kind of dad who does not get traditionally feminine interests, so to ensure that his kid doesn't only bond with you (if you're into traditionally feminine interests), he'll make damn sure to take them outdoors and teach them to build things with him. He doesn't discourage feminine interests, he just doesn't want them to exclusively like those things because then he'll be left out. His kid could not only pull together a wardrobe out of old pallets from a junkyard, but they could wear the best damn outfit while doing it.

Because he was raised by a misogynist on steroids and gained a lot of those traits himself, prepare for the "I'll shoot your boyfriend if he tries anything," kind of parenting if you have a daughter. Or if she really got into hunting and maybe took up a fighting sport: "You shoot him if he does anything wrong, okay sweetie? I have lawyer money."

Also, he's 100% a "Hey kid, when I'm too old to care for myself and the wife ain't able to do it, just take me outside and put me out of my misery, will you?" guy.

No revealing clothes. No matter the sex or gender of his child. No sex, alcohol or drugs under his roof. They can fuck around and find out when they move out. And if they bring weed home he'll confiscate it (for him and you to smoke lol). This is until they hit 16, in which case alcohol and weed may be had at home, sometimes with friends, so Darius can keep an eye on them and they can learn their limits before they hit the legal drinking age and are able to go out into bars. But he limits it, because he doesn't want his kid to be an alcoholic like him.

Will not go through their things though, even internet history. He'll lecture them on safety, and until proven otherwise, he'll presume they're staying safe. He'll allow 3 fuck ups before he does begin checking, but if you point out that they may be being unsafe because they need x thing, he's open to trying out what you suggest instead.

Will not notice if his kid is neurodivergent, because as previously mentioned he likely is too, so he just thinks it's normal. Especially if you're also neurodivergent.

Doesn't exactly understand mental health issues, and will likely keep dragging his kids out and about and force them to try new activities to keep them busy, cause that's what he does to feel better. He won't do therapy himself, but if the kid asks to go he'll pay for it. Don't expect him to hold himself accountable for anything he did though. At least, not at first. Darius may learn to undo certain ways of thinking he has and become more caring, but he'll never be a Saint.

Oh yeah, under no circumstances will he ever be honest about how you two met. As soon as you know you're having a kid, he'll make you come up with a happy little meet-cute as a smoke screen for the reality of your relationship. Unless he accidently confesses it in a drunken stupor. But he'll deny it if he's pressed afterwards. He may learn to be better in regard to his kid, but he'll never ever admit wrong-doing where you're concerned.

Overall, this is not a responsible parent, but he tries his best.

I mean you do already know of Vic, half orc eldritch knight with a martyr complex the size of the city. Grew up in Baldur's Gate, genuinely a really nice childhood he's got two younger siblings and lovely parents and I'm not positive in what way he got his soldier background but the boy is always a soldier of some kind (maybe a Fist? it's hand wavy). He was a whopping 21 when he got scooped up by the nautaloid and decidedly does not want to be a main character but shit keeps happening and Vic is gonna die protecting his friends or Vic is never gonna die

He's always been real into magic but didn't think of himself of the Wizardy Type growing up, and then the local wizard took the time to teach him magic and there was a very good reason he had a very big crush on Gale. It was Gale who pushed him onto the eldritch knight track specifically and Vic might not get the finer points of all the theory and technical jargon but that's fine he has a genuinely very good teacher

and then y'know. Wyll happened. and godsdamnit Wyll you were supposed to be the Unattainable Paragon of Justice and way too good for me but then he was just a guy with a determination to protect people as strong as Vic's own and this way of talking that sounded like he was constantly half a step away from writing an epic and maybe there was a bit too much wine at the grove party that led to a lot more self-confidence than Vic ever has but that kinda. happened. (the psuedo-breakup with Gale after the fact was not fun for anyone involved but ??? was that actually anything Gale there had been absolutely no conversation about it, they do eventually get back to actual good friend and there's the moment of Gale telling him "For the sake of absolute transparency, I may have slept with Astarion" and Vic choking on his dinner but they're friends again)

Karlach is the bestie from the very start. In their first little heart-to-heart by the fire there did have to be the "hey, so you know I'm like. really gay, right?" conversation, but from that point on she is constantly giving him enthusiastic thumbs up over Wyll's shoulder and the teasing is relentless. She clocked his formal training the first time they fought together and the soldier nickname is Incredibly fitting, they fight very well together and are both very physical people which is unfortunate before Dammon manages to cool the engine down. (Wyll has a "secret" scoreboard in the back of one of his books of the number of times Vic has forgotten, punched Karlach's shoulder, and burned himself. An additional category was started for "bad enough that Shadowheart had to heal it") She fully died in Grymforge, like got knocked down and then pushed into lava, and he had to pay Withers to bring her back and that was. not a good day at all, when she was back and mostly focused again Vic just preemptively called Shadowheart over so he could give Karlach a (very very quick) actual hug

he just wanted the tadpole out So Bad, bad enough he ended up with a magical eye for the troubles. Vic never touched the tadpole powers, figuring if he couldn't manage with his own sword and magic it wasn't worth doing anyway. The boy is decidedly in favor of relying on your own abilities, having seen far too many cases of the gods or others granting powers get petty, use them as leverage, strip them away on a whim, etc. fuck the gods, tbh, very glad we stopped Gale from becoming one or making one even more powerful

I’m curious to know your thoughts on Yuma x Tori.

Honestly I'm not the biggest fan of this ship. It just seems a bit forced on the viewers, if you know what I mean. There would be important duels and in the middle it would cut to JUST Tori calling Yuma's name and it was like... TOO obvious she liked him. And it honestly got kind of annoying at times too. Plus, I think they didn't handle Tori as a character super well too; as she was literally added into scenarios she didn't need to be in, and her crush was just completely one sided and established too early in the serious and too obviously to mark out as "Here is the Love Interest TM".

Also her dynamic with Yuma suits a more sibling relationship too, because a lot of the time she does act like a sister and he definitely seems to have more of a brotherly behaviour to her. You could argue that Yuya and Zuzu have the same thing, but the difference is that their relationship was a genuine part of the plot, from what I've seen anyway, and it sort of grew mutually in a sense. With Tori and Yuma there isn't much growth, and Tori just has a crush on Yuma but also acts like a sister to him.

It's a bit like how I don't like Jaden and Alexis as a ship. Jaden's an idiot who didn't even know what a FIANCE was. As a HIGH SCHOOLER. Alexis is intelligent and has more Big Sister vibes, her crushing on Jaden feels off in a way. Tori and Yuma are a bit like that. With Yusei and Akiza the two, especially Yusei, just cared about each other in such a sweet way, especially in season 1, and the romance aspect wasn't immediately established and Akiza's crush was only hinted at a bit, and honestly that makes it sweeter in my opinion, where they grow closer as friends and then slowly fall in love, because then it's like real in a way, and so I geniunely ship them (also the two never date they just get married at once ok i refuse any other interpretation)

On the other hand I can totally get why Yuma and Tori can be seen as a cute couple because they do have some geniunely cute moments, and I could lowkey see Yuma and Tori together but like years and years later. Right now, though, they're more like friends and psuedo-siblings to me. I think that if they just started out without romance from Tori and the two just grew closer over the series and THEN Tori starts loving Yuma I feel like I would have liked the ship more.

The one thing I will ALWAYS give Tori props for was that as soon as she confessed she IMMEDIATELY went "let's go help Astral". In the sub she says something like "lets get back what's most important to you". And I love that she ACKNOWLEDGED that she herself isn't Yuma's priority. Astral is and always will be Yuma's priority, Astral is the one Yuma cares about the most (whether it's platonically or not I'll let you decide what you like :) ). And she was HAPPY to do it. She wasn't even bittersweet about it, the entire scene she was just so happy and excited because Yuma was finally truly happy again, and I just love that about her, that she was happy if Yuma was happy even if it's not what she wants for herself. That's genuine love right there.

So tl/dr: it has the potential to be cute but the show's execution was way too obvious and unnecessary but the ending of it was cute and maybe i'd ship their future selves. They needed more growth and heartfelt moments to make me want to ship it and less of random zoom ins on Tori crying Yuma's name in duels (there were other people who were supposed to care for Yuma too right there!)

If so perhaps how about the all the Bridgertons reactions too Portia's distancing or possibly the 1st interaction everyone has with they're villian.

I haven't really written any of the other triggers yet for isekai and yanderes, at least I don't think I have. I guess we could count the Gregory/Lucy/Felicity triggers in my latest posts for the au, here and here. If anyone would like I could try, or if I have someone please point it out to me.

As for Mary I have written about her in this post. Long story short she is spared, and does actually plan to help Violet, she thinks it will be best for the family and Portia.

It would be interesting for the first interactions as well because about half of the villains would not be out in society yet. Simon, Kate, and Sophie would be, so I imagine they would meet their's at a society function. Michael maybe or I might have him still in the military, but he could be visiting on a leave and happens to run into Francesca during a promenade. Or while Francesca is in Bath Michael just happens to be there too for military reasons. Phillip would be at University but I can imagine him actually coming to visit family he likes. Maybe he comes to keep Penelope and Edwina some company while their older siblings are out doing society things. They end up at a park, Penelope's bonnet knocks Colin on his ass, and that's also where he meets Eloise. Hyacinth meets Lucy and Felicity at some sort of lesson Lady Danbury is giving. Gareth and Gregory show up to escort their respective sister/psuedo sisters home.

Their parents are doctors. M r habit is a surgeon specifically and Mrs habit probably…runs a clinic? IG? IDK, but either way: they worked a lot.

They were just neglectful parents. Mr habit left the child care to Mrs habit, Mrs Habit would get burnt out and stressed out very quickly. By the time Boris was like 5 or so she was Stepped Outta There. When they were both younger, they were looked after by their grandma! But after a certain point she was too old and Nora was already so efficient by herself.

So yeahhh…Nora had to make sure Boris got up for school, had his lunch, actually went to school, helped him out when he needed it, etc. All while keeping herself together and in check.

This is assuming that Boris wasn't taking care of himself. Because the thing is… Nora did that too. She WAS an independent kid, but also because she too was neglected and AGAIN she normalized this as her just growing up when it was just disinterested parents. I want to emphasize, Boris was still alone for a lot of the time.

Because Nora had a lot to keep up with. she had to keep her grades up, keep up with all her extra activities n credit, plan her future [that would be dictated by her parents but that's for later]

She was a psuedo-parent, emphasis on psuedo. In the end they're still just siblings.

Despite that. Boris still trusted Nora and was comfortable enough with her to ask things of them or seek out what he couldn't get from their parents. Just…being a normal kid around Nora was a big sign of "oh I'm ok here. I won't get in trouble will I?" because Nora showed her baby sibling smth that their parents, definitely their dad, did not show her. Patience!

She'll look at you like you grew a second head if you even INSINUATE shit wasn't normal or right. Young Nora would double down on it being fine and she's fine. Her family isn't perfect but it's hers!

But actions and feelings manifest in specific ways that you don't realize. She looked at her baby brother. Her sweet, sensitive, kind little brotherand just….Was lenient with him. Deep down this girl knew it wasn't okay but just couldn't admit it. However she still wanted to show her little sibling that kindness and patience that she misses from her own childhood..

I can see backstory reveals coming sooner in the Empire Siblings Neighbor AU. Like, hearing Beau and Caleb's backstory, Fjord might be more apt to reveal more of his backstory and Ukatoa. Nott might reveal at least part of the Veth thing quicker maybe? Which also makes Trent ambushing them so much worse, cause Luc is also there. (Then Beau dies, someone who Nott has become psuedo-mom to) Marion immediately mentally adopting all of them on the spot (her and Dairon split custody with Beau).

I think that when them being closer faster, the whole party gets closer a lot faster. The Veth reveal for sure comes earlier because she's starting to see Beau and Caleb as her kids and those emotions are starting to slip through that she doesn't really have a choice but to tell them. And so they're there in Felderwin a lot faster. And Beau dying in that fight would just fuck up the whole group and that's just A Lot.

1. What font do you write in? Do you actually care or is that just the default setting?

okay so for like... longer form stuff i almost always choose A Font for that project. it is that projects ONLY font and changing it is a big decision. like, my current WIP novel is being written in cambria 11 pt font, but my last big project was written in times new roman 12 pt, etc.

for stuff thats short + spur of the moment i just leave it as default (dont usually think about it). poetry is a whole affair. i will scroll through the entire font list until i find the one that adequately fits the VIBE

3. What is your writing ritual and why is it cursed?

my writing ritual is cursed because i dont really have one, i just chill until im gripped by the throat by an idea and god will not stop me until its on the page. i will write inordinate amounts in one sitting. when inspiration strikes i will wake up, write until i have to go to work, go to work, write until o'dark thirty and then go to bed, rinse and repeat. the catch is that if im not inspired absolutely nothing gets written

10. Has a piece of writing ever “haunted” you? Has your own writing haunted you? What does that mean to you?

the best answer I have i think is the Earthsea trilogy by Ursula K Le Guin. its a story about being lost in the dark and trying to find your way out. it's a story about what it means to be alive. it "haunts" me in the sense that i think it taught me something about being human, and how we chase the light at the end of the tunnel. i think about it all the time.

my own writing definitely haunts me, both good and bad. my writing is always, unintentionally, deeply personal, and so sometimes when its emblematic of a part of my life that ive moved on from, i will dislike it. sometimes i love it for the same reason. its a Thing.

18. Choose a passage from your writing. Tell me about the backstory of this moment. How you came up with it, how it changed from start to end.

this is one of my favorite moments from the early part of my WIP novel. essentially, the protagonist (star) is listening to her best friend (zenith) describe his last interaction with her sibling (mercuriel) before he ran away from their hometown and cut off all contact with their family. they're from a small town on the coast, in this sort of psuedo-victorian fantasy setting. star had been away at magic school when mercuriel ran away. merc didn't go to magic school because she struggles with magic.

the town has a "druid" who is entrusted to heal the sick and do other things for the community with magic. star and mercuriel are twins, and so were chosen to both be druid, together. i wanted this scene to really communicate both how attached star and merc were and how that attachment made them distant. they think of each other as their “other half”, and as a result they dont really know each other as people, not really.

it's just that merc came to understand that, and star never really did. not at this point in the story, anyway. i came up with this scene because i thought of the jacket as a symbolism thing in merc’s story, and thought it would be good to setup here. everything else kind of followed after that

35. What’s your favorite writing rule to smash into smithereens?

I LOVE THE WORD "SAID" AND I WILL SAY IT WITH MY WHOLE CHEST. said/says get SUCH shit. you will NEVER find a better, more versatile word for your dialogue. its SNAPPY it doesnt CLUTTER anything and it can communicate so much because of what you couch around it. the dialogue can speak tonality for itself. said is your best friend.

I think if dimitri and edelgard had gotten to spend any significant amt of time together after reconciling dimitri would think edelgard was just. really cool. and i think edelgard might have had a bit of fun showing off for her (tentative) younger brother (?)
