"Kuina's death is ridiculous" yes! That's the point! You do realize that falling down the stairs is a way of showing Zoro how fragile human lives are, right? You are aware that the point of Kuina's character is the unfairness of the world towards women in comparison to the privileges men have, like living in itself and fulfilling their dreams, right? You know that Kuina's death is "ridiculous and dumb" because it's meant to show that even the strongest person Zoro knew could die from something so little, right? You understand that the value Zoro gives to life is fucking immense, right? Right?? You realize Zoro can't seek revenge because nobody took her away from him and now the only thing he can do is become the world's greatest swordsman to avenge her death, right? You get that Zoro's character is an atheist because he doesn't believe in anyone and he can only rely on himself when it comes to Kuina's sudden death, right? You are aware that sometimes people die in the simplest of ways and that doesn't make them weak because death doesn't discriminate, right? You know that all of these things are what make Zoro's character so interesting and important, right? Right??? You know, right?
Well, of course you fucking don't because if you knew you wouldn't be saying her death is ridiculous <3

we make a lotta jokes abt laois being monsterfucker-coded but like yea really truly is there any experience more relatable to the autistic monster enthusiast than being raised on stories about monsters menacing humankind and being driven out and feeling an immediate pang of longing knowing deep in your gut even as a child that you have more in common with the monsters than the humans

i feel like part of the reason terus backstory makes me so unreasonably sad in contrast to any other character with similarly if not more tragic backstories in other pieces of media is just because of how out of place it is in his universe and how unaware of that fact he seems to be. like, in naruto everyone’s an orphan who grew up bullied and outcast from society, it’s just kind of the standard, everyone can relate to each other for it. teru though? the only person he can relate to even a little is like, what, sakurai? the guy whos part of the organization thats been hunting him for sport since he was twelve at most? everyone else has had bad things happen to them, sure, but theyve had bad things happen to them that give them paths to empathize with each other. shou and ritsu both grew up terrified of one of the people they cared about the most snapping and going mad with power, mob and serizawa both understand what its like to be so terrified of your power that you shut yourself out. who does teru have?

I'm reading Public Opinion (Lippmann's book) and he mentioned/referenced H.G. Wells several times so I can't help but wonder, have their bsd counterparts met at some point?

was anyone else fundamentally changed as a person when they watched the 2004 phantom flashback scene at way too young an age and made their entire personality revolve around some french incel's tragic backstory for the next ten years or so or was that just a me experience

what if i snapped and made an oc carrd
#i mean.... i could#this isnt the first time ive thought of doing it but i drop ocs so easily its not even funny. so idk if itd be worth it#id consider toyhouse or smth but i dont have money lol. right now everythings on artfight but thats more for drawing purposes#what ocs would i even talk abt... i have some standalones like auggie and ocs i think look cool but dont plan on using#but some others have their own stories.. not like a huge thought out plot but something i pick up and twirl around in my head#like luckys whole deal is being a hiking guide who accidentally gets tied up with some werewolves pretending to be a hiking group to eat pp#and then i have the magician rivals. although i kinda wanna tie theirs with the nightguard and thief story ive been cooking. maybe in the#same universe? it would be pretty funny if they lived in the same apartment complex since a couple stories i have in mind revolve around th#its like some sort of omnibus or anthology to me. kicks my feet#and then fan characters like xin ya and sleight who i want to have their own expanded lore and stuff. i think that would be cool#im making crow a powerpoint of xins updated lore but the assignmence are making it hard. hopefully it turns out good though#i have a hard time writing personality and xins is always the hardest bc theyre probably the least like me. i tend to stick to#characters similar to myself to get in their head. but bc their backstory affects their personality so strongly i have to do some thinking#anyway. hopefully i remember this later#yapping#oc#oc talk#ive also been playing neko atsume recently for nostalgia and why did we as a society ever stop playing it. its so chill#you just take pictures of silly little cats and leave them silly little toys and treats. and the music is cute

who's your favourite lancer dad?
if you mean "who is your favorite character that happens to be in the lancer dad club" its The Big Hot Computer Wife, and that's almost surely the intended question, but if you mean "who is your favorite character to parent him" it is actually, by exactly One (1) point.... rouxls
because i love queen, i love her to bits and pieces, but for all her Mom Energy she is still actually new at the Mom thing. she has some stuff to learn beyond search inquiries and algorithms. and that opens up to all sorts of delightful shenanigans and the relationship To Be Built There is so wonderful, but rouxls has been here, by any canon or non-canon measure, longer than she has, and i think there is a very sweet bond between a naive, terribly lonely boy with a neglectful (sometimes worse) father and the prideful, terribly lonely idiot who has been put in charge of him, who Had to be there when nobody else was. and of course, this idiot caved. it feels like when you look at who they seem to be as characters, they mutually need each other, and i just think that's a really sweet kind of relationship.
... queen will catch up of course, really it's a learning experience for both of them as rouxls was the same brand of Clueless Idiot she is, he's just ahead of her on the board. he's got notes, she can borrow them. maybe they can study together.
comic relief characters can be really deep actually. or maybe i dug this hole myself. but either way, it’s there

arc 4/season 2 of re:zero really did have a bunch of sets of siblings with lots of focus on them. it seemed to be a bit of a recurring theme for the season. family bonds as a whole were really important, especially where the backstory was concerned, but in contrast to that, the sibling relationships seemed to be about moving each other forward. in different ways though...
like, you have frederica and garfiel. they're estranged half-siblings, but frederica still obviously cares so much about her little brother. the reason she left was because she wanted to make a place for him and the rest of the people in the sanctuary in the outside world. garfiel was stuck inside the past, fearing the outside world for what happened to their mother. but when he finally faces his trial again, it's the memory of his sister that gives him the motivation to move forward.
similarly, in emilia's second trial, it's her conversation with archi that enables her to face the present for what it is. even though trial archi seemed to be pushing her towards the world of the trial itself, that's exactly what reinforces her will. with her memory of the real archi, she calls him "big brother" for the first time, and she thanks him for always being worried about her. the sad thing is, unlike all of the other sibling duos, archi has already been dead for a long time. but even then, like we saw in the first trial, he gave his life because he wanted emilia to keep moving forward.
and in otto's backstory too... he spent most of his childhood completely unable to interact with the world around him. the constant noise was too overwhelming, to the point that he couldn't actually hear anything else. he had no way to understand or communicate his feelings. and though his parents did their best to understand him, he was still stuck in this state. it wasn't until oslo decided to teach him how to write that he was finally able to express himself. despite the fact that it was harder for otto than other kids, he finally managed his first real message to his family, "thank you for everything." and with that, he cried for the first time since was born, and was able to move forward again.
even the antagonists this arc are siblings. meili and elsa dont get as much focus into their relationship as the others (not for this arc at least), but one very obvious development is that elsa has someone she cares about. elsa "bowl hunter" granhiert, a serial killer/assassin/vampire who takes great pleasure in watching people die, and tearing out their organs, has a person she cares about. this is a humanizing trait for her, and that's on purpose. loving meili literally makes her "more" human. someone that she's also willing to give up her life for. and later on, in arc 6, we see just how much elsa's death impacted meili and how she hasn't been able to move forward since that day.
this theme is even more noticeable in the negatives too. in rem and ram's case, who have already been set up as a matching set all the way back in arc 2. they're identical twins, they've loved each other literally since they were born. ram awoke her powers as a newborn just to save her crying sister. they share a deep and powerful bond. but... what the hell happens when that goes away? because rem had her name and memories eaten, ram forgets she ever had a sister. her character digresses, her entire world is now centered on roswaal, she's more devoted to him than she was before. without her sister, ram moves backwards.
and of course, there's the sibling duo that this entire season centers around- subaru and beatrice. i've talked before about how subaru's relationship with echidna and roswaal is like a foil for his relationship with his actual parents. subaru has been raised living in the shadow of his father, but his actual dad never once forced him into it- he encourages his son to stand on his own and be his own person. roswaal is the opposite, he corners subaru in an attempt to make him a mini roswaal. subaru's mother was always watched him closely, but never made his choices for him. echidna is the opposite, where she wants to manipulate and control subaru's every action to satiate her own goals and desires.
but echidna is also beatrice's actual mother, which places beatrice in the role of subaru's sister in his fucked up found family echidna had created. but beatrice and subaru were never forced together, they chose each other. beatrice was left alone in a library for 400 years, abandoned by her mother and left to wait for a person who would never truly come (who never truly existed). she has been stuck for so long, unable to break her chains. but the action that finally does free her from this stasis is when subaru asks her to choose him. the only way for them to escape this "family" and move forward was for them to choose each other.
