oh ho ho au where there’s been a brutal murder and all signs point towards anakin being guilty….but during the trial prep work, obi-wan, not on trial at all btw, confesses to the murder.
the prosecution knows he didn’t do it, but his dna is at the scene, there’s security photos of him close by the murder scene, there’s enough circumstantial evidence that it makes it incredibly hard to prove that he didn’t do it. there’s a ton of evidence to prove that anakin did it, but there’s also not a small amount of evidence that obi-wan did it which makes it really difficult
(anakin definitely definitely did it. but obi-wan feels an incredible amount of both guilt for the loss of life at the hands of a boy who he has vouched for so ardently in the past and also a fervent and insane devotion to anakin, and he can’t let him suffer for his crime when obi-wan could suffer for his crime instead <3 that’s the way things should be)
(anakin would snap out of his stunned stupor and tell the judge and jury that obi-wan is innocent and he’s the actual murderer, but like. it’s really hot. it’s like really hot that obi-wan’s going to give his freedom away so that anakin can live untroubled. no one’s ever loved him so much, not even the devoted wife of his sitting in the audience. this is different. this is everything. this is like. breathtaking.)

there are of course thousands of fanfics where someone is rendered wildly OOC, often by becoming far too nice and good at expressing emotion, in order to seamlessly facilitate their transformation into the protagonist of a romance. but it's really really really funny when the person they do that to is mace windu.

I just finished padawan by kiersten white and had a blast with it -- it was exactly the kind of thing my brain craved this week, just some nice character study and adventure story stuff for my brain to chill in. thoughts:
a) I love obi-wan and his poor anxiety-ridden teenage self so so much. peak a delight to have in class to the point of nervous break representation, someone help him. local boy manages to become parentified child to an absent father somehow. that part where he's so afraid he's so bad and useless that the force itself might just decide it doesn't want him after all........ heartbreaking. that's exactly what I would have thought at sixteen too probably. (also my personal headcanon has always been that obi-wan is on the ace spectrum, so that was a very nice thing to find supported in this book! canon is vast and can support any number of stances that way honestly everyone should go hog wild with it in whatever manner they please, but that's always been my vibe)
b) qui-gon fucking jinn if you don't step up and do something to help the child in your charge with his ACTUAL DEBILITATING ANXIETY DISORDER RUNNING HIM RAGGED other than ask him to meditate so help me I will come over there and do maul's work for him ahead of time I swear to fucking god
c) no, really, it says some not very good things about qui-gon's mentorship abilities that obi-wan really only manages to grow and be calmer when he's outside of his influence. I know this book means you to come away with the feeling that obi-wan takes a big step towards enlightenment and adulthood on this trip (and I do think that's also true to be clear!), but there is a part of me that also thinks that just as much as personal and spiritual development what we're seeing here is an avoidant attachment style definitively entrenching itself as a result of having no adult that can be consistently trusted to meet him emotionally. (which also makes a horrible kind of sense, thinking about what obi-wan and anakin's relationship is going to be like in the future -- obi-wan is avoidant and self-contained when it comes to trying to deal with his emotions, and anakin skews far more anxious and towards lashing out, and they never quite understand each other for all the love that is there. you can trace that all the way back here. sins of the master, huh.) obi-wan finds some agency and catharsis in being able to help a group of abandoned children, you say. hm. I'm sure this means nothing and has no parallels in his own inner world. you let the kid think you'd completely abandoned him instead of communicating with him openly for like five minutes. For His Own Good of course. Wow I didn't realize I was this angry about this but here I am once again livid on obi-wan's behalf, actually. 'I'm an incredible teacher and this lack of honest emotional communication I'm fostering in favour of (benign!) manipulation is never going to come back and bite the jedi order in the ass, surely'; the qui-gon jinn story

when people think anakin wouldnt have turned to the dark side if qui-gon trained him im just ?????
YOU THINK THAT WOULD HAVE STOPPED PALPATINE???
i mean qui-gon took anakin to be trained cause he thinks anakin is the chosen one or this is at least a major reason why and like??? PALPATINE WOULD HAVE JUST PIVOTED LIKE
"it's such a shame my boy that the council and even your master only see you as the chosen one and not your own person"
"i hope that they trust you as a jedi and not just part of a prophecy"
"i fear that qui gon only wants you as the chosen one and if you weren't, you would never have left tatooine"
LIKE PALPATINE WOULD HAVE DONE THAT! HE ENGINEERED A WHOLE WAR JUST TO TAKE POWER AND QUI-GON BECOMING ANAKIN'S MASTER WOULD HAVE DESTROYED PALPATINE'S PLANS???
idk just gets on my nerves and feels like a slight against obi-wan who yeah wasn't perfect and the circumstances for becoming anakin's master weren't ideal but i think he was a great master and this idea also makes palpatine seem far less manipulative, cunning, and evil
the man once said he would gladly make vader again given the chance, even knowing how it would eventually end, so he's not stopping just because anakin has a different master

1000% true reason Ezra's hair got short for s3 is bc Chopper Base is a warmer climate than Lothal and Ezra's got that nice thick hair yknow so time to give himself an edgy teen undercut (or whatever emo vibe he's going for that reduces hair on his head) to get his scalp to breathe. and so he has sabine come do it. but sabine is a perfectionist and, more importnatly, an older sibling. so she messes up once and goes "fuck" and then shaves him bald and tells him to come back in 6 months to try again

how are my throat fic darlings doing? are Palpatine and Yoda both experiencing sudden Very Bad Feelings? do Obi-Wan and Anakin kill Dooku together on date night?
anakin slinks back into their house at least once a month with a dead sith in his mouth like a very deadly house cat who has a very honed killing instinct.
obi-wan is disappointed with him each time. he knew he shouldn’t have carefully pushed anakin into killing Palpatine and then rewarded him through joy and also sex. now anakin thinks if he just finds the right person to kill again he will get more obi-wan flavored joy and also sex. obi-wan tries to train him into being an indoor cat for a few weeks but it’s way too exhausting. too much sex. better to just release him into the wild and deal with all the bloody footprints he tracks back….so long as he keeps it all under his radar so the Jedi don’t find them
meanwhile the Jedi absolutely know where they are. like. yeah. probably down to the exact apartment address. they’re just spending a really long time debating whether or not they should go in and check on them. all signs point to attempted murder of the Jedi who is foolish enough to knock on their door but also can they be really sure that obi-wan is there of his own free will?? but on the other hand, obi-wan did leave the order to find anakin after being expressly told not to so is it really their business?? and he’s always been weird about his master so like. signs point to him being there because there’s nowhere else in the galaxy he’d rather be. and on top of that, no matter how grudgingly, anakin sort of did save all the Jedi so like. do they let him keep operating like business as usual because of that? and he’s cleaning up all the sith in the galaxy! they can’t really understand why but…why interfere?

Why Palpatine LOVED Anakin’s Mechanical Arm
In the novelization of ROTS Dooku said to Sidious how he was disgusted by Anakin´s mechanical arm, he was revolted at the idea of recruiting an ally who wasn´t entirely human, comparing Anakin to general Grievous. To Dooku´s surprise Sidious replied that Anakin´s mechanical arm was exactly what made him the perfect man for their plans. He saw Anakin´s arm as a permanent symbol of the sacrifices he had to make for peace and justice. That arm was a badge of heroism that Anakin had to publicy wear for the rest of his life, forcing everyone to look at him and see his honor, courage and integrity. Sidious said that Anakin was perfect just the way he was.

I saw a post mentioning Ahsoka was originally assigned to Obi-Wan and I’m like ??? Like, yes Obi-Wan asked for a new padawan but the first thing Ahsoka says as she arrives is that she was assigned to Anakin
Edit: if you don’t want to read the tags: I rewatched the scenes from the movies and it’s said several times she was assigned to Anakin by Yoda himself and at the end it’s implied Obi-Wan helped. She was never assigned to Obi-Wan.
#I can't claim that it wasn't a mistake from the order (I think that's what Obi-Wan or Anakin say at one point#but I can't recall if they did)#and there are at least two other possible interpretations that are:#that Obi-Wan says he asked for a padawan but it was a ruse to assign one to Anakin#or that even if Obi-Wan asked for a padawan Yoda assigned her to Anakin anyways#And I think that the movie says something like Obi-Wan will take over her training once Anakin decides he doesn't want a padawan#before he changes his mind and takes her#like I get it you like the Obi-Wan & Ahsoka dynamics#You like to think they were actually much closer than what we see in canon#or you don't like Anakin as a character and so you push him aside at any chance you get#but going from that to affirm she was originally assigned to Obi-Wan hun I think you're projecting your hc#REWATCHED THE SCENE JUST NOW#And Anakin is the one that says it must have been a mistake because he didn't want a padawan#Ahsoka insists Yoda assigned her to ANAKIN#(also Obi-Wan has been pestering Anakin about becoming a teacher)#AND THEN after Anakin accepts Ahsoka and they meet with Obi-Wan and Yoda#Yoda says that Obi-Wan was telling him about Anakin having trouble with his new padawan#So yup I think we can discard the mistake option from above#Yoda assigned her to Anakin and Anakin only#and suggested reassigning her to Obi-Wan when he heard that Anakin was hesitating#And after that is all said and done Obi-Wan teases Anakin about teaching her (Teach her everything I taught you)#And Anakin says something makes me think this was YOUR idea from the start#so the scene implies Obi-Wan requested the padawan for Anakin but it's never confirmed#so yeah she was never assigned to Obi-Wan to begin with#play with your aus all you want but don't sell it as if it were actually canon#fandom salt#personal

A rainy day thought because I’m hurricaned in at my university:
An unexpectedly powerful storm sweeps in very shortly after Obi-Wan takes Anakin as his padawan and cancels most of the Temple classes and activities for the next day. Little Ani is absolutely amazed by the storm and is in Obi-Wan’s room the next morning not long after dawn insisting on going out and seeing the rain in all its glory. Obi-Wan, however, is twenty-five and exhausted and Jedi compassion or not, it’s way too early and he’s entirely too comfy to be walking around in the freezing rain because Anakin wants to, so he tells him no--and no, he can’t go alone, stay in the apartment--before rolling over and going back to sleep.
An indeterminable (but undoubtedly too short) amount of time later, Obi-Wan wakes to the sound of rain much closer than before and he realizes that even under the covers, he’s almost unbearably chilly.
He groans and sits up to ready himself for whatever mischief Anakin caused, but he doesn’t have to look far; on the opposite side of his still-dim room, right in front of the window (which is now hanging wide open), is his absolutely drenched padawan, fast asleep on the floor in an ever-growing puddle.
