Final Fantasy XV
Okay, so, I finished this game just a few minutes ago after playing it for a week straight and I have to say, I absolutely adore this game. Like, I’m putting it as my third favourite game of all time: The Evil Within, The Last Guardian then FFXV. Odd combo, I know, but, I’m a very picky gamer to say the least and I wasn’t even going to get this game. It just so happened to be on sale when I was in the shop on Sunday, so I went with it. Long story short, love the game. Long story long, under the cut because I don’t want to bother you with my ramblings. I just need to get everything I feel out there.
Also, there may be some spoilers, so, yeah. Just a warning here.
First of all, I haven’t played a Final Fantasy game since FF X-2 on the original PlayStation 2. So, it’s been a long time. I wasn’t too accustomed to the turn base battle system, but I wasn’t sure how the ‘open world’ ‘free’ fighting would turn out, but I have to say, I like it a lot more. Probably because I’m not a patient person, then again, I’m not the best at strategy and it takes me a long time to learn I can block attacks rather then charging straight in all the time. The only real gripe I have with this system, and really in general, would be the camera. It works well most times, but then there’s an occasional bush or tight corridor with a few enemies and that’s were the camera is flawed a bit.
Secondly, the story. i’ve heard others say the story wasn’t great, but I don’t know if it didn’t follow the typical FF storyline or just didn’t do it for some people in general, but for me, I got emotional and it takes a lot for that to happen. I thought the voice acting was pretty good, Japanese and English, though Ignis sort of threw me off at first with his English accent, but I quickly got used to it (he’s probably, or rather, is, my favourite chracter in the game. I bet if you know me enough, you can just see a picture of him and know why :P But it’s not just that, that makes him my fav. There are other, less selfish reasons xD) anyway, the story really had been invested hence why I played it for a week straight from dawn ‘til dusk then dawn again poor life choice, I know. It honestly had me teary-eyed at some parts and I was really concerned for these characters.
One part I remeber well was when Ignis ended up blind after the Altissia chapter and the coming arguments between Noct and Galdio then Ignis willing to be left behind during the talk in the mines - sigh -
Thirdly, I REALLY enjoyed these characters if that wasn’t obvious. They actually felt like they had a close connection to each other, like they were actually friends and held genuine care for one another. I honestly found that really nice. They worked off each other so well. All their conversations felt genuine. I could go on and on about it, really.
Fourth, I loved the open world part. I feel like I’m one of the few, but I really liked driving the Regalia around. I had fun customizing it and I didn’t mind having to stop for gas or having to get it repaired when it needed to be. I had a grand time just letting Ignis drive to wherever the quest was and I just set my controller down and admired the scenery. The graphics were gorgeous on those cutscenes, damn. Especially the big boss fights with Hydrean. That was really awesome to play through. I felt so powerful and then the cutscene after that happens and I’m dropped into a pit of feelings again.
Fifth, I really thought the A.I was amazing! I didn’t have any problems wit my partners at all. I wouldn’t say they were the best A.I partners ever, since they often stayed in the line of an attack rather then dodge *cough*though I did the same thing more often then not*cough*, but they never got stuck on anything and never glitched out which I was very happy about.
Sixth, the soundtrack was amazing! I could listen to it all day and I know it’ll help with my own writing a lot.
Now, with all that said, there was some gripes, other then the camera, I had. There were some glitches. Like my ‘X’ button to pick things up or interact would disappear some times and I had to reload by transporting back to the car or rest stop. I also had a hard time pressing ‘X’ to do things because I’d always end up jumping instead of what I wanted to do, but that’s probably my own personal gripe.
I also found some battles to be somewhat unfair but I won’t put this under ‘problems’ because, of course, it’s probably my own fault and was ill prepared.
Anyway, yeah. My thoughts on the game. It’s not perfect (what game is?) but I found everything good about this game really outweighed the bad and, to me, there wasn’t much bad to begin with.
Of course, this is just my own opinion. Wether your agree or disagree is completely fine but this really has become one of my all time favourite games and, if you did, thank you for taking the time to read this ramble.
Plus, the ending song: Stay With Me, hits hard. Really hard. I love it.
