Seriously though, unforunately it looks like I can no longer answer your long-awaited ask because I just saved my response to your inbox in the drafts and apparently that just deleted both your ask and my answer?!?! There really is no good excuse for why it has taken so freaking long. I remember that I have at least a few drafts that I made, but then my drafts became like this-

Btw: I'm gonna censor most of the fandom/character/ship names (even the ones I like) because 1. I don't want to attract people who feel the need to argue with me (because I cba I really cba) and 2. I don't want to offend anyone who likes those things. It's gonna look super silly with *s everywhere but I don't have the energy for any heated discussions or arguments.

1. What OTPs in your fandom(s) do you just not get?

Ooh I have several squicky ships that I do get but I just don't feel them at all and have negative connotations associated with them... It's not exactly an answer to the question but it is what I first thought of.

Pre 2020 me didn't like Harm*one as a ship (in H*rry P*tter). Nowadays I don't interact with the fandom so I don't care but I still have negative associations with that ship and its fans.

I don't have any positive associations with Cl*uis (in TW*DG) because of bigotry.

I understand the appeal of E*yam (from C*kur) but it's a toxic, abusive, insulting mess like its fanbase. Man, I'm so glad C*kur ended in 2021 so I could leave that show and its fans behind.

I also used to feel more negative towards R*xi (from E*phoria) as a ship because of shippers' attitudes towards J*les/R*les but since F*xi became really popular I don't see nearly as much of that ship anymore.

I'll explain the reasonings more in the next question because the answers in both questions are pretty similar.

Also, to sprinkle some positivity amongst my mostly critical answers, here are some OTPs that I do like:

7. Is there anything you used to like but can’t stand now?

Again, this applies to me pre 2020, but I still remember that I used to somewhat like Harm*one as a ship from H*rry P*tter, but yeah... the portion of toxic fans who were super hateful and bitter and straight up mean towards R*n and G*nny.

I used to like L*ouis and sorta like Cl*uis from TW*DG but the homophobic/lesbophobic/biphobic fans have pretty much turned me off from the ship completely. This doesn't really apply to fans on here, moreso YouTube fans who are just The Worst tbh.

Similarly I used to like E*sun from C*kur and back in season 3 but E*yam fans (particularly on Twitter and YouTube) were just horrible. I remember being civil and polite and considerate to every single one I encountered but they were awful and one fan even wished death on my family when I had said nothing to warrant such a bizarre comment lol. They were also The Worst towards D*lan D*niz and their relentless bullying campaign against her from 2019-2021 (but I saw a few months ago that they're still hating on her in 2023 ffs), all because she was a "threat" to their toxic ship. Man, I'm so glad their ship flopped in C*kur's finale, even if it was upsetting to see them being more hateful towards D*lan. They deserved some karma after being some of the worst fans I've ever had the misfortune of seeing.

Again for positivity's sake, here are some characters I do like:

12. Is there an unpopular arc that you like that the fandom doesn’t? Why?

Unlike seemingly most of the fans on here, I like El*ven getting with M*ke in Str*nger Th*ngs. I will never understand why M*leven is so hated. She can be both independent and in a relationship, and I don't see how that's such an unpopular take. Sure, there are issues with codependency, miscommunication and lying but considering what those kids have been through, is it any surprise?! They've both been through so much trauma, both together and separately, so no wonder they don't always go about the things the "best" way. I'd cut them both some slack (especially El*ven considering the hell she's endured all her life that has stunted her growth). Also, I feel like fans are way too harsh of them because aren't they supposed to be around 14 in season 4?!?! I'd say that they're remarkably mature for their age. I will admit that I like them less than I used to after season 4 but tbf there are several characters/relationships that I like less because of season 4. I like other ships like B*ler and E*max but I don't see why liking them should almost become synonymous with hating M*leven.

I... I don’t often call out anyone specifically using social media before, but... I saw this among the reblogs in my first post about MXTX novels English release announcement and I feel that this is just too much...

I’m not going to tag this with the fandom tags because this is literally just my personal rant, and I don’t want unpleasant things to appear when people are happily browsing the tags.

I also censored the person’s blog name. It’s not like I want people to mass attack them.

But I do have some things I want to say about this kind of mindset.

And this is gonna be a long post, so I’ll cut it with "Read More” later below as not to disturb anyone’s browsing experience.

Why do they have to split the books into multiple volumes?

First, you do realize that the original Chinese version and other languages versions are also in multiple volumes that don’t always be published on the same date, right?

SVSSS has 3 volumes, MDZS has 4 volumes, TGCF has 5 volumes.

With the English release, both SVSSS and MDZS get +1 volume while TGCF gets +3 volumes.

Why you ask?

Have you ever considered how long a single Chinese word would be if written in alphabets?

The word “人” in Chinese only needs 1 (one) character, while in English it would translate to “P E O P L E” = 5 (five) characters.

The word “知己” in Chinese only needs 2 (two) characters, while in English it would translate to “C O N F I D A N T E” = 10 characters, or “S O U L M A T E” = 8 characters.

Now apply this to an entire novel. FYI, TGCF has more than 1 million word count in Chinese, so you can do the math by yourself.

I mean, just go watch the donghua or live action in YouTube. One single sentence in the Chinese sub is often translated to two or more lines in the English subtitle.

And I’m going to repeat this once again: In China and other countries that already get their official releases, it is also NOT always all released on the same date as a single set/box.

So yes, (not) surprise! For the Chinese release and official releases in other countries, you also often need to purchase multiple times, pay shipping fee multiple times, and wait for certain period of times until all volumes are released.

It doesn’t only happen to MXTX novels, it happens to almost all novels, be it danmei or not.

Why don’t they just wait for translations to finish and release it all at the same time/as a box set? Why the span of two years?

On my part, I already say above that in China and other countries that already get their official release, it’s also not always published all on the same date.

Other than that, I’m not an expert at book publishing, much less when the publisher is not from my own country. But maybe consider the following:

They’re releasing 3 (three) hugely popular IPs all at the same time. Maybe the preparations take more time and effort to ensure everything is flawless?

Since it is very rare (or maybe never, cmiiw) for danmei novels to be published in English, maybe the publisher is testing the market first? Because if they already release them as a huge bundle from the start and it somehow flops, the loss would be very big. If it works well, then good! Maybe for future danmei release, they will consider making a box set or releasing them within shorter timeframe. 

In terms of marketing, if they wait another 2 years to release it all at once, will the momentum still be there? You can say “so in the end it’s all about money”, but if not sales number and money, what else should the publisher expect to receive for their work? They’re already putting a lot of effort buying all three IPs from the Chinese publishers, proofread or even translate some from scratch, pay translators, editors, illustrators, printing companies, etc. If it’s not selling well simply because they release it at the wrong time, aren’t all these efforts going to be wasted? And you can bet there will be no more danmei published in English if their first try already flops merely because of losing the momentum.

Are there any other rules or regulations they need to comply that prevents them from releasing everything in one go? But once again, even in China and other countries, it is also not always all released in one go, so this argument is already invalid from the start.

But they make it so expensive like this!

I’m sorry to break it to you, but I’ve compared the prices to MDZS Japanese release + TGCF Thai release and... The price isn’t really that much different.

Btw, I’m using Google’s currency converter, in case anyone wants to know where does my calculation comes from.

Okay, so here’s MDZS Japanese version from CD Japan:

One volume of MDZS Regular ver. cost 1760 yen. This is 15,96 USD before shipping. There’s only like $4 difference.

There’s also the Exclusive ver. that cost 3660 yen (32,92 USD) but we’re not gonna talk about that because they’re basically making you pay for the bonus, which is some acrylic panels and illustration cards.

Now here’s TGCF Thai version from Sense Book:

One volume of TGCF costs 360 baht. This is 10.77 USD before shipping. So there’s about $9.22 difference.

"But there’s still difference in price and other releases usually gets merchandise!” - Correct me if I’m wrong, but the US is probably one of the most expensive countries in the world. Do you think the materials, printings, and manpower cost is the same with other countries? Especially compared to one in Southeast Asia.

“But it’s xxxx times more expensive than the original Chinese version!” - Excuse me, the original Chinese version doesn’t need to pay for translators, proofreaders and editors with multilingual skills, and purchase the IPs? If you think it’s more worth buying the Chinese version, then by all means go ahead.

Some last words...

I’m not looking down on those in difficult financial situation, but hey, I’m not filthy rich either? I come from a third world country and even if I’m a working adult, I’m still in working middle class + I got my parents to take care of. My country’s currency is literally just a tiny 0.000069 USD per 1 Indonesian Rupiah.

Every single fandom merchandise that you see me bought, either I’ve saved up for that or I sacrificed other things to buy that. I just don’t show the struggle to you guys because why should I? I’m just here to have fun about the fandom I love, not to flex my struggling financial condition.

These official English release of MXTX novels? All 17 books are going to cost me almost HALF of my monthly salary. But hey, I think it’s a good thing that they didn’t release it all at once, so that I can save up between months to purchase them all and plan my spending better.

If you feel the price is expensive, especially if you have to ship from outside North America, consider the following:

The books’ ISBN numbers are all available in the publisher’s website, just show it to you local bookstore and ask if they can order it for you

Plus, there are already hundreds of generous fans doing free giveaways in Twitter, even the publishers are helping to signal boost this. You can go and try your luck if you’re really desperate.

Lastly, I know how much love we all have for our favorite fandoms, but remember that fandom merchandise is NOT your primary needs.

You are NOT obliged to purchase any fandom merchandise if you can’t afford it and you should ALWAYS prioritize your primary needs.

Also, if you still want to read the fan-translations that are still available, alright go ahead. But remember that the translators themselves already said fan translations in English are now illegal. You can read it. We all consume pirated contents at one point. But don’t flex about it and diss the official release just because you can’t afford it.

I don’t know if the person who made that reblog tags are going to come at me or not, but even if they do, I literally don’t care. I’m not gonna waste my time arguing with someone with that kind of mindset and will block them right on the spot.

Another thing that frustrates me about Dream SMP discussions is the focus on good guys and bad guys, heroes and villains.

Because to me it doesn't seem like that's what the story is about AT ALL.

It's much more about loyalty rather than any other kind of virtues or values:

Loyalty to people

Loyalty to a country or faction

Loyalty to tradition

Loyalty to ideology

There's so much focus in the narrative on betrayal as basically the worst kind of crime you can commit. It's brought up to the point of obsession. Although there's a lot of hypocrisy about it because everyone only disapproves of it when it's hurting their side haha. Huge surprise there.

Even in Technoblade's case it's all about his loyalty to his ideology vs his "betrayal" of his comrades. And speaking of which, they REALLY like to use the word even when it baaaarely applies. Basically anything bad anyone ever does for any reason (that the character doesn't approve of): "betrayal!"

And on the other hand whether something is bad or not also tends to be decided based on allegiances. Murder is fine as long as you're murdering an enemy. (But when the enemy murders you it's bad lol)

Of course it's not like this is an unusual moral code, this sort of thing goes back thousands of years and is still very much alive and kicking today. It makes a lot of sense psychologically and evolutionarily.

But from the perspective of any ethical theories NOT entirely based on loyalty, it's... not that great.

My point is, this isn't a story about good and evil. The heroes are mostly heroic from their own perspective. The main "hero" is Tommy whose claim to heroism is mainly his loyalty to L'Manberg and to his friends (and his disks). Also bravery and sacrifice and all that, but those are manifestations of his loyalty IMO.

And I'm not just talking about the fandom, btw, when I talk about the "good guys, bad guys" discussions, this goes for the characters too, AND the players, including Wilbur. No matter who does it, it feels very arbitrary, because the "good guys" really never were all that good.

(Also same goes to all the people going "the bad guys are actually the real good guys": no, the "bad guys" aren't that good either. This is not about flipping the narrative, this is about questioning its premises.)

yay, laptop! as i don’t usually post any updates for my fanfics here (because most of the times i update them on ao3 it’s already around 1am or even later in my country and i need to be at work by 9am lol), i came up with an idea to post a weekly-blabbering-on-Sunday-afternoon (yep, it’s late afternoon here) about my updates, fanfics, etc. because sometimes i just like to blabber about them and none of my friends is sharing this fandom with me :C

so, to the business

Call Me by Her Name, otherwise known as that bloody fake-dating christmas-themed fanfic which i wanted to finish by the new year’s eve and still keep going - i really hope i’m approaching the end of it... well, at least i posted another update last week! i don’t remember now, but i think i mentioned it in the comments to one of the chapters that my initial intention was to make it twice smaller than it is now, but well, once i’ve started something i won’t be able to stop until i wrote e v e r y t h i n g which came to my mind, so here i am, the new year’s eve and both christmas are already over, and i am still working on it, the initial promise of light-hearted fluff lost and forgotten... btw, as i finally reached my laptop, i managed to apply all the changed to the chapters 1 - 3, so they’re betaed now c: 

Don't Forget your Happy Days - even though i mentioned this particular fanfic won’t be updated very often (because the chapters will be huge), i still decided to post the second chapter, so the whole fucked up time-travelling concept will be finally revealed. so yeah, my plans for this fanfic are a little bit monstrous, with Sandor reviving all the events of all books once again - or maybe not reviving, who knows what he could do while being in the past lol :D buy yeah, i really wanted to put Sandor in this situation, maybe because it was interesting for me to see what changes could happen if it was him who travelled back in time and got a chance to correct his (and maybe not only his) mistakes, or maybe just because i like to write Sandor’s POV very much :’)

The Wife, the Dog, and the Kingdom to Boot - chapter 17 and f i n a l l y  s a n s a n  i s  h a p p e n n i n g - - well, not a sansan actually, but finally there’s a really important move from Sandor’s side, so now it is a matter of one or two chapters before my children will be finally married :’) (and i really need to find some time to sit down and reread all the fanfic in order to find some stupid typos and everything like this, writing fanfics on your phone is suffering)

and now i look at ll my fanfics, at everything i wrote here and kind of regret i didn’t ask my friends or family to give me an extra day on the week as my christmas/new year present, as i really need it :’)

What expectations do you hold towards your plotting partner:  i need my partners to be as interested in our plot as i am. it would be great if you already have an idea, but it’s still good if you don’t, i get that coming up with ideas can be hard sometimes; mostly, i require honesty. you can definitely tell me that you got no ideas and i will do my best to help, ask questions, try to spark something. i do require the feeling of having that commitment reciprocated.

When you notice the plotting is rather one-sided, what do you do?:  i tend to straight up drop the conversation lmao. no hard feelings, but if i get the feeling you’re not interested, i will take my distance - i won’t waste my energy on a plot if my partner doesn’t share my enthusiasm. still, you can always approach me again, if you’re feeling up to it / have new ideas / whatever. nice thing of online convos is that they don’t have an expiration date lol.

How do you usually plot with others, do you give input or leave most work towards your partner?:  i always ask if they got any ideas to begin with. if my partner already knows, more or less, what kind of dynamic they wanna build with my character(s), that makes it infinitely easier to build something meaningful. it’s still fine if they don’t, i will usually ask a lot of questions regarding their muse’s opinions / feelings / etc., and try to navigate from there. a question i usually ask is: is there any aspect of your muse you’d like to explore? i think that’s a pivotal point in any interaction. 

When a partner drops the thread, do you wish to know?:   YES / NO / DEPENDS. - And why?: if they feel like telling me, why not. but usually, i don’t warn when i drop a thread, so it’s not expected of my partners ever. - What should your partner do when dropping a thread?:  nothing in particular tbh. they can tell me or approach me to start a new thread if they wish to, but it’s not required.

What could possibly lead you to drop a thread?:  i might lose interest in a thread, especially if i feel like it’s going nowhere or if the inspiration for it simply doesn’t come. it’s never happened so far that i had to drop a thread because it was making me uncomfortable, but that could still be a reason for me to. in general, though, i would approach my partner in that case. - Will you tell your partner?:   YES / NO / DEPENDS.

Is communication in the rpc important to you?   YES / NO. - And why?:  absolutely. i’d rather avoid awkward situations or misunderstandings of any kind; if something’s up, tell me. i also like to communicate with my writing partners (be it in the tags of our threads or in IMs), makes me feel like the enthusiasm is not one-sided and i find it generally pleasant.  - Are you okay with absolute honesty, even if it may means hearing something negative about you and/or portrayal?:  sure. we gotta stay polite, but honest. - Do you think you can handle such situation in a mature way?  YES / NO.

Why do you rp again, is there a goal?:  to have fun, to cultivate my writing skills and my english, and to explore my favorite characters. 

Wishlist, be it plots or scenarios:  i want to develop aizen’s wandenreich verse, because i’m deep in quincy hell and i think his dynamics with quincy muses could be super interesting. anything involving the intricacies of bleach politics is super interesting to me, be it with aizen or with my two quincy muses - who, btw, are also good to explore dynamics between quincies / their culture / relationships etc.

Themes I won’t ever rp / explore:  i won’t write anything pertaining to sexual assault. 

What Type of Starters do you prefer / dislike, can’t work with?: it’s gotten difficult to work with starters such as “you summoned me / do you need anything / did you call for me” etc. i used to receive that kind of starters all the time with aizen, and i can’t come up with something new every damn time. i also have a hard time working with starters / replies that already feel like a closed conversation and don’t give me anything to reply to.

What type of characters catch your interest the most?:  i’m not sure i have a type. aizen is pretty much an exception, the only example of an already well-built character i write, since i tend to gravitate around minor ones that don’t have much material and that i can work on and expand without being affected by the fandom’s opinion or whatever. somehow i always tend to rp tall guys-

What type of characters catch your interest the least?:  children and teenagers don’t interest me for the most part. characters who don’t have a shred of an opinion or can’t offer any interesting conflicts. overly friendly, mushy, affectionate and flowery characters are really not my cup of tea either. 

What are your strong aspects as rp partner?:  oh god i have no idea. i’m very laid-back, i guess. i’ll never pressure my partners for replies, i don’t think i’m owed a reply in the first place because we all have lives offline,  so i’ll never take it to heart if a partner drops a thread. if i really feel like our roleplaying styles don’t mesh, it will be at my own discretion to do something about it. another strong aspect i have ....... i think i have a decent grasp on all my muses? especially aizen. of course ur free to disagree lol. also, lately i’ve been p active, so that’s it. 

What are your weak aspects as rp partner?: i’m really slow. i might speed up for my closest friends, with whom i plot / rp regularly, but usually i take quite some time to reply to random unplotted threads. i probably have a thousand other flaws as a rper, but this is the biggest one that comes to my mind rn.

- What could possibly make your Muse interesting towards others, why should they rp with this particular character of yours now, what possible plots do they offer?:  not to stroke my own feathers but aizen offers a perfect chance at character development to any and all bleach characters. he’s the main villain, he holds some wild opinions, and whether you agree or disagree with him, he leaves no one indifferent. aizen is the main cornerstone of bleach, and if you want your muse to questions themselves and the system / world around them, interacting with him is the best way to start. also, aizen interacted with a fuckton of people, knows practically everything there is to know, is responsible for significant amount of canon events, so you see ... whatever character you write, aizen has the full potential to be extremely relevant in the course of their development.

- With what type of Muses do you usually struggle to rp with?:   children, ordinary low-ranked shinigami (i find it hard when it’s out of the blue, even in aizen’s captain and lieutenant verses ... because interactions would likely be only work-related, and won’t go far), characters whose personalities really have nothing to do with aizen. unfortunately, he’s not my easiest muse, and i don’t want to force interactions with him.  - With what type of Muses do they usually work well with?:  characters who have opinions, some political involvement, in general characters with whom aizen had a dynamic in canon. 

- What interests your Muse(s) in general:  reading, calligraphy, philosophy (especially in-world philosophy), science (again, mostly related to the specificity of the bleach universe), the very careful crafting of his plan- - What do they desire, is their goal?:  kill the soul king and take its place, destroy the institutions of soul society, subdue them. and then rule, as the soul king never did before. - What catches their interest first when meeting someone new?:  the idiosyncracies in their behavior, the particularities, their possible weaknesses.  - What do they value in a person?:    very little, usually. he may appreciate a resolute personality, strength, and intelligence. - What themes do they like talking about?:  speaking mostly of mundane talks, he likes conversing about his interests. it takes a lot for him to share any personal information, though. - Which themes bore them?:  anything about the greater good, friendship, love, very human topics.

- Did they ever went through something traumatic?:  seeing the soul king, in all things like a ghost stalking his dreams, and well ... spending his early life in rukongai as a whole. being forced to consume other souls in order to survive. the first times his reiatsu killed anyone who tried to get near him.  - What could possibly trigger them?:  it’s rare that he will outwardly show signs of distress, i’d say almost impossible. the few times the soul king still appears in his mind, greatly upsets him though. - What could set them off, enrage them?:  the soul king gets him particularly heated. urahara, as we witnessed. after his defeat, ichigo, to an extent. - What could lead to an instant kill?:  kubo was a coward who didn’t dare let him kill any relevant character, but actually aizen kills very liberally.

- Is there someone /-thing they hate?:  the soul king, urahara. he has a strong disdain for yamamoto, and that joke of C46. - Is there someone /-thing they love?:    himself. tousen

Is your Muse easy to approach?: YES / NO. - Best ways to approach them?:  he’s only really easy to approach for bleach characters, who, depending on who they are, have different eligible verses to further facilitate the interaction. humans / powerless bleach characters can’t really interact with him tho. - Where are they usually to find?:  soul society or hueco mundo. i have a verse set in the wandenreich.

Something you may still want to point out about your muse?:  aizen is not a particularly easy muse, but it’s part of his overall mosaic to be somewhat unapproachable and distant. i’m not out to make him someone he is not, so forgive me in advance if plotting with me turns out to be difficult in a way or another. he’s very dear to me, and i try my best to do him justice! while my main headcanons may not affect our interactions specifically, i still ask my partners to look them up (they’re linked in my about page) because they’re essential to my portrayal and it makes me happy to have them acknowledged. i think that’s all lmao. come visit me over at my quincy boys too.

Personally I don’t watch MatPat and/or support his theories and some of the things he says, but I would still be willing to do icons of him as long as people are aware I don’t actively watch and/or support him, y’know? In general I don’t do icons of nsfw content. I am an adult, but I know some of my followers are minors, and there are a fair amount of minors in this fandom, so I don’t want to be constantly exposing them to that, ect. (Besides, I don’t like doing nsfw of the animatronics, since they have the souls of children in them.)

i really like this idea that May is a legacy. it’s interesting you pick Venus, but given how good-looking Luke was described as and how charming (tho, that could reasonably come from Hermes bc con-ppl are often charming) it makes sense

not to mention, as you say Luke did seem more powerful than most other demigods, being able to take on the curse of Achilles, hosting Kronos, not to mention holding up the sky for however long he did. i think it was Chiron who mentioned that only the greatest heroes are able to hold up the sky, but Luke was so clearly on the wrong side, and Percy even notices that in the books, but it’s like…never explained???

so for him to have more than just half godly blood in his system would make a lot more sense than the “it’s complicated” explanation we’re given in canon

i really like that hc that he can redirect Venus magic (my mind first went to charmspeak) but that it’s difficult and dangerous. like it’s such a cool concept, tho i’m not sure how much it applies to Luke? like maybe that’s a skill that any child or legacy of Aphrodite/Venus would have, but Luke was unable to unlock that power, or at least the full potential

bc it’s just that, and i think it’s mentioned by Annabeth in moa, but a big reason that Luke fell into Kronos’ trap was because Kronos fed Luke a lot of what he wanted to hear, manipulated his thoughts and it’s implied by Annabeth that Kelli also had a lot to do with manipulating him by using charmspeak

like i guess if it’s difficult and dangerous, it would make sense that he was unable to redirect her charmspeak, esp with Kronos also manipulating his thoughts and emotions, but it doesn’t quite fit…tho i think that has a lot of potential to be a story arc regarding the development of Luke’s character, kind of like how it was for Zuko and lightning

but that would also imply, following Zuko’s story arc, that Luke eventually realized the error of his ways and joined the gods’ side

altho, it would be more interesting, playing off him being able to hold up the sky, despite not being the “hero,” if he learned how to redirect charmspeak but remained “loyal” to Kronos

i can see where you’re coming from regarding the normal badass trope. i’m not sure how well Rick executed it (if he even did) bc in my opinion, it’s not necessarily that Sally, Rachel, Paul, and Fredrick are what i would term as a badass. Sally can see thru the mist and Poseidon loved her so much he offered immortality. that speaks to her character, but isn’t exactly badass. Rachel is the oracle, but doesn’t have any combat skills to speak of. in en extenuating circumstance, Paul used his sword-fighting skills to help protect Sally and others, but i doubt he’d have much else use for swordsmanship except if he were to take up acting. like Paul, under extenuating circumstances, Fredrick piloted a plane and shot at monsters with Celestial bronze bullets he’d made himself, tho i imagine that’s as much action that plane is going to see for the rest of Fredrick’s life

the acts themselves are certainly badass, but it doesn’t necessarily speak to their character as being a badass.

now, of course, being a badass doesn’t constitute being able to beat someone up. Rachel throwing her hairbrush at the lord of titans is p badass. and sally charming one of the Big Three gods so much he offered her immortality, not to mention killing Gabe and his buddies indirectly, is v badass. so being a badass can take many forms, i’m not denying that

but it doesn’t quite fit what i see the trope being, as defined by society, whereby to be a badass, you have to have some combat and strategic planning skills or smth. i hope that makes sense

you mention Ty Lee, right? now i haven’t watched a:tla in forever, but from what i remember of her character, i never actually saw her as some everywoman. she was friends with a sociopathic princess whose father colonized the rest of the world. that’s not exactly normal. i mean even taking away the sociopathic and her father part, she’s friends with a princess! that’s not exactly what i’d constitute as normal you know?

but it’s hard to say what’s normal in that universe, right? bc nonbenders, like sokka, are considered “normal” and average bc they can’t bend, when a majority can. and sokka is often talked abt like he’s “normal” but his tribe taught him how to be a warrior from a young age. his father went off to war, and his mother was killed by a firebender when Ozai began colonizing the other tribes. that’s not normal. even in that universe, bc the avatar is supposed to keep peace b/t the different benders

so it comes back to how society defines the trope, where normal is your average person (no special powers, no secret talents, just goes abt their mundane day at a nine-to-five and binges TV shows on Netflix when they get home) and badass is having that hidden talent (that they most likely don’t even know abt) or learning to be a badass as their character arc and as the story progresses

gosh, hope that all made sense. long story long, i agree with you that it’s a tired trope (in that we’re introduced to someone we consider and are supposed to think is average but, surprise! they actually have a hidden talent that turns them into a badass), but i think if done right, it can be really cathartic and exciting

I think it's not right to judge people's choice to use abortion. They are the ones who have to live with that choice and it's between them and whatever god they believe in. Hi there~! I think there’s always an overriding issue in that people can group any sort of “pro-something” and “anti-something” social movement -- whether it’s a fringe group born in tiny corners of the internet (like the whole shipping/fandoms VS cyber harassment of real people debate I was talking about), or something much, much larger on a global scale, like abortion rights.

Because there will inevitably be people who think slapping an “I’m anti, uh, bad stuff” label on themselves holds enough nuance to work out well or apply to literally any and all situations, and people who think “I’m pro... all the good stuff, then” is a politically reliable way to counter that.  And for most arguments, it becomes a semantic signifier for anything the person in that group decides it means (and it gets difficult to tell what it is people are actually fighting for; it’s so generalized that it becomes a social performance, rather than a genuine desire to help people or better society).

I wanted to tell you that I think it’s great that you’ve shifted your stance to be more widely accepting of people who bring up conflicting emotions within you.  Because I think that’s an issue we have as humans, is that when something makes us feel bad, we no longer take it as a cue from our brains to step back and think “yikes, that felt bad, so... was it bad? What exactly happened there, what are the facts? What specifically needs to change?” Instead we tend to go “yikes, that felt bad, which means it was the worst thing on Earth, it is definitely what it feels like to me, screw the facts -- the people who caused the unpleasant feeling Needs Be Evil.”

And I know that pitfall intimately, because I have borderline personality disorder (BPD), and black-and-white thinking as well as intense emotions, and impulsive behaviour based on those emotions are all huge issues for us.  :’) My initial response to anything that hurts me (because I feel things so, so intensely), is to hate anything and everything associated with that thing, or person.  I’ve had to learn -- through a long, arduous process of self-discovery and therapy -- how not to do that.  Because the problem is that always reacting like that is not only extremely self-destructive, but also extremely harmful to other people.  We all need to be able to engage in self-awareness before we react instinctively to everything that incites any negative emotion in us.  And I think it’s fantastic that you’ve taken a step back and done that here, Anon~!

Wrt abortion, the problem, again, isn’t ultimately in the words we use to label ourselves and how positive those words sound to other people -- because as I said previously, pro-life people can be described as anti-choice, (and pro-choice people are typically just described by pro-life people as “baby killers”, while they throw graphic renderings of bloody, dead fetuses at us or something; neglecting any of the conclusive science behind what a fetus actually looks like at the legal cut-off point for abortions).  So I’m up for mentioning more of my personal feelings about this topic, btw, bearing in mind that I do not have a uterus, or the relevant gender-related experiences, so I am not an authority. (However, I do feel I have valid concerns about anti-abortion, and many of these concerns are shared by a massive number of people who do have the relevant bodily experiences).  

I’m p obviously fully on board with people having abortion rights.  It’s a basic right for women (and non-women with the related bodily autonomy issues in society) to have access to good abortion clinics.  We as a society should at least realize that, for absolute certain, fully developed women and girls have feelings and fears and lives -- we cannot say the same for a fetus at the stage of development in which legal abortions are conducted.  It’s sad that so many powerful men, and their allies within our society, seem to have to be constantly reminded that Women Are People.

That brings me to my main concern about anti-abortion sentiment and especially legislation.  Abortions won’t stop if they’re made illegal.  For as long as rape, poverty, misogyny, familial abuse of daughters, and other systemic issues exist, there will be women who (for a massive variety of specific reasons) cannot afford to be pregnant, who cannot care for a baby, and who will be desperate enough to have an abortion that they’ll end up getting one done illegally.  This will mean that a) A whole lot of women will die from botched abortions, and b) Many pro-life folks’ worst nightmare will occur a whole lot more often: Legal abortions have a cut-off date for the development of a fetus, to ensure that the practice is safe for the mother, and that it causes no pain to said fetus.  Illegal abortion practitioners do not have the same restrictions.  The more legal, safe abortion clinics there are, the fewer unsafe, illegal abortions there are.  

In any case, to close off with -- Anon, I think it’s genuinely awesome that you’re practicing compassion for others~!!! And though I can’t judge anything spiritual for certain, I feel very strongly that being kind and compassionate to other human beings, particularly ones who are disadvantaged, who you may disagree with or even feel animosity towards, is a beautiful and admirable way to practice religion~! I’m in the same boat when it comes to depictions of characters of a certain race in my fics, except it’s worse for me because I have next to zero experience with both Japanese AND American people and customs. Makes it hard when I’m writing/drawing to get my portrayal of McHanzo exactly right But I’ve always disagreed with those who believe that you should only like/draw/write about/ship characters of a certain race if you are of that race. I understand the need for positive representation and debunking of stereotypes. But you’re not automatically entitled to “own” those characters just because they’re the same nationality as you. Others can enjoy them too. I could easily tell others to stop enjoying Moira content because she belongs to people from my country and my country only. But that isn’t true. I think as long as people are aware of the problems that exist with representation, that they should be free to enjoy characters of whatever race they want. BTW, ludwigplayingthetrombone are like the least “offensive” McHanzo artist I can think of. It’s bizarre to me that this person directed their asks at them, not at the people who genuinely do fetishize McHanzo 

I mean, I’ve had a longer-than-an-hour exposure to one (1) American in my entire life outside the Internet (I hosted an American dude who wanted to apply to a school in Finland for like two days), and have never stepped one foot upon the continent either, but American culture is easier to depict solely because of how widespread it is in media. Exposure to it is almost impossible to avoid, and entirely so if you live, say, in Europe. The worst shit I’ve gotten for my depiction of Americans is that I use British English to do so, which is apparently the worst offense and you should never use any other variation of English than the Official American English if you write about Americans, or if the United States exists in your story in some shape or form. :P Anyway, yeah, writing USA is infinitely easier than writing Japan solely because one of these things has infiltrated everything in the media I’ve consumed since the day I was born and the other thing just exists relatively quietly in its own plot of land somewhere over yonder way.

The writing advice of “only write what you know” is legitimately one of the worst, most garbage pieces of “advice” ever given to mankind by anyone, ever. Writing is all about learning, about finding new perspectives; the same goes with reading. You don’t only “read what you know” - that makes no fucking sense. Every story is an adventure, a journey into the unknown. As it fucking should be. If you only write what you know your stories will never evolve, and neither will you as a writer. You will stagnate and your imagination and your human potential will wither. Human beings were not made to sit idly inside their four walls, never looking out the window to see what else is out there - we’re all dreamers, and writing is dreaming. And the thing about fiction and media in general is, exactly, that it belongs to everyone. You have to be careful when you’re treading over someone else’s land, their experiences, their culture and their heritage, but at the same time, without the freedom to create and consume these works of fiction, we don’t have stories anymore. It’s a balance between respect and risk; you will always make mistakes along the way, but just as you need to listen and learn from them, others have to accept that as a human being, you will be imperfect. Especially when it comes to learning.

There’s also a very important thing in here about how powerful fiction is in its ability to teach: when you write about a foreign culture, you set yourself within that picture. If you put the smallest effort into portraying that culture, you will inevitably learn about it, and its customs and its people will become closer to you - you’ll form a personal relationship to them, which makes you more open to them, and has the potential to spark a thirst for learning more. Telling people not to touch characters, stories and subjects that “belong” to other cultures is telling people not to cross those lines, to separate and segregate, and this is how fear and prejudice breeds. Racism, especially unintentional and subconscious racism, draws its strength from ignorance and humanity’s instinctive distrust of the unknown, particularly when it comes to outside groups of other human beings. In this case, allowing people the opportunity to connect safely via stories, via fiction, and form sometimes very deep personal relationships to characters that are written to represent a group of real people, is crucial in teaching them acceptance and openmindedness.

So, yeah. There’s that.

so I think Deus rigged this whole game specifically for Yukki his random observations diary made the future diary a very interesting idea and a very powerful tool but then Deus threw a bunch of various... interesting characters into it, and I imagine physical proximity (or ability and willingness to get around fast) and, ah, interestingness of character were the main criteria, and he went for ANY kind of diary at all, which made most of theirs much less potent

another thing I'm thinking is I've been noticing the small child holding hands with ?parents? in the end credits for a while, and it looks like Hinata, and she might be an important character

maybe this anime just burned through a few expendable characters at the beginning to set up the situation and create the athmosphere, and the main plot is going to be about a bunch of high schoolers after all, because that's just how anime rolls - high schoolers would be the major characters out of the whole bunch of diary owners

so maybe they're not all dying next episode is what i'm trying to say

and... i personally don’t mind him being a republican because it isn’t inherently bad. from what i know about politics, choosing a party is about how one thinks the government should be run, and it is mainly based on opinion. thing is, the definitions of political parties have changed drastically as time went on. all of a sudden, race, sexuality, and gender identity was pulled into politics. which it shouldn’t have been in the first place. why people in the community got mad was because most of us are lgbt+, and many republicans nowadays do not support our community. it just feels... heartbreaking. we are an entire community of people who just want to live and yet he supports people who practically want us dead, or worse. “maybe he doesn’t know” you say, but he can just look stuff up by himself if he pleases. i personally believe he chooses to be ignorant to the truth, but i do believe there is a chance he's completely oblivious.

but oblivious does not mean innocent.

so.. now what do i do? here is my decision: i am not going to support canon fnaf now. my au will now be turned into an original story, simply named “Immortals”

remnant will be changed to something else, the animatronics will not be featured in any way, shape, or form, and all human character names will be changed (mainly last names, but first names may apply as well). designs will stay as is though, unless they are fnaf related, like guard outfits

i have worked so much into my au and it has many fnaf elements in it such as its human characters and implementation of the games, but really? i haven’t used much of the canon fnaf elements in my story. so it’ll probably be easy for me (personally). i’ll just have to find ways to remake the important canon elements i left in.

fnaf, i’ve loved you for a very long time, but it’s time for me to go. the fandom i have seen has its horrible people, but i’ve had so much fun getting to know people here. i will still possibly like fanart of it, i just won’t interact with anything from the canon universe, such as games and books. it pains me to say this because i have already purchased three of his many books, but i can just find them online somewhere or read summaries.

thank you all for staying with me throughout my time with the fandom. i hope you will stay as i leave as well, and i hope you will enjoy my story.
