The new sonic screwdriver has been shown and it looks to have circular gallifreyan on it, I tried to translate it but got nothing, but I also just am not great at translating it. I figured you’d be the one to ask, can you find any actual words on Ncuti’s new sonic? Or just what are your thoughts about the new sonic :3
Hi! So as you mentioned in your other message, the sonic screwdriver is supposed to say “the sharpness of the tongue defeats the sharpness of the warriors”. However I’ve got other thoughts so I’m gonna do a bit of a vent anyway haha.
First things first, I say “supposed to” for a reason, because the phrase is missing all of the dot details that would make it legible per the Sherman’s Gallifreyan system, and it’s chock full of typos. The orientation of the words also differs, in that they’ve rotated every word slightly so the first letter is whatever’s closest to the outer edge of the screwdriver; in Sherman’s, the starting point doesn’t rotate like that.
Even accounting for the orientation change, the screwdriver currently reads “the tatpness fo the tongee befeets the tatpns fo the wat?iots”. Which….. lmfao.
So the net-net is that the BBC stole co-opted a fan’s system, and then used it wrong, even though there are literally people out there (like yours truly) who would jump at the chance to design an accurate and beautiful Gallifreyan piece for use on the show. For free even! For the sheer pleasure of adding “featured on the BBC” to my LinkedIn!
And all this because the BBC is too lazy to create their own consistent Gallifreyan system, but also too greedy to appropriately credit the artists whose work they’ve stolen for the show — artists plural! Sherman and Sirkles and who knows who else! — or to stop levying copyright strikes against other fans using Sherman’s fanmade system. When the BBC fully steals a fan’s work, it’s an easter egg, but when fans reference Doctor Who when making artwork in an unlicensed fanmade system, it’s theft of intellectual property? Make it make sense. (Spoiler: you can’t!)
I wish I could just feel overjoyed to see the fan community’s love for Doctor Who and interest in Gallifreyan incorporated into the show! In a different universe, this could be such a love letter between creator and fandom, a testament to the way that media and fandom weave together into something bigger than the sum of its parts. But in THIS universe, it just leaves a sour taste in my mouth.

Also, what’s it called when your life feels like off? Like I’m almost watching from the bleachers. I know that has a term and I can’t be fucked to remember it right now but I’m getting that weird almost out of body feeling I’ve had before. It’s not making me panic but it’s giving me a weird personality.

KASPER THOSE TAGS. THE IMPACT THIS SCHOLARSHIP CAN HAVE ON THE GUNNAR HENDERSON BLEEDING LOVE CINEMATIC UNIVERSE
GHBLCU!!! I can’t even look at the tags I wrote my own self without blacking out bc rhi’s scholarship captures SUCH a specific and visceral mood that yeets me violently back to high school and college, but it also captures the vibes around certain men so so well. Like yeah!! If I was Gunnar Henderson having to be around chosen one Adley Rutschmann who is so kind and so big and so goofy and so disinterested in me romantically but loves me wonderfully like a brother, if I was Gunnar sitting on the couch watching The Dark Knight with Adley, both of us sprawled out and kinda paying attention but also not really because neither of us actually wanted to watch the Dark Knight, Adley wanted to watch Casablanca and Gunnar wanted to watch V for Vendetta and they just ended up on The Dark Knight rather than re-litigate an argument about how many times you can watch Casablanca without Humphrey Bogart becoming Your Thing, if I was Gunnar and I was kinda bored and I knew Adley was kinda bored and I could see him shifting restlessly on the couch like he wants to start that argument again anyway, then, yeah, I would be feeling some things. If I was Gunnar, I would kinda wish Adley would feel me up on the couch!!! A lot!!!!

the problem for me with both witcher s3 and wot s2—well, okay, one of a few problems, but the one i'm singling out at the moment—is that i've just reached a point with SFF where i've largely used up what little patience i ever possessed for the 'young trainee gets frustrated that they're not progressing faster and gets reckless' trope?
like it's not that it's not a plausible way for someone to behave, it totally is! but. i don't know. i need a, like, decade-long break where i just get stories starring middle-aged people who have, probably painfully, learned some damn patience and slow perseverance…

What's the difference meant to be between (tell me about the sword" and "write up a description"?
Okay I know you said you got it but I'm gonna go ahead and answer this anyways because I think people have been pretty confused and I could probably clarify it better.
So the "tell me about the sword" box is intended to be for you to gush about the sword. You don't have to write professionally you can just gush directly to me because I'm the only person who is going to see it. If no one provides me any fully written out descriptions for that particular sword, I'll be pulling information from these boxes to construct my own summary of the sword to post alongside the polls.
The "write up a description" box is for you to use if you'd like to clean up your description in the box above and make it more professional looking so it'll look better publicly on the polls. Cutting out all the fluffy language and grammar errors and whatnot. It's by no means a required box to fill out, it's mostly there in case you'd like to skip the step of having me do my own research and write up my own descriptions, since in theory you're more familiar with the source material than I am.
The box can also be used to point me towards useful resources, i.e. if you found a really obscure wiki that you think would be better to pull from than the usual fandom wiki results that come up first. If you ever wrote a huge tumblr post breaking down every aspect of the sword or something, or know someone who has, you can link that here as well. It's just a way to help point me in the right direction.
Tl;dr, the first box is for you to write knowing I'm the only one who will see it. The second box is for either links to help me write my descriptions, or for you to try your hand at writing a description for me that will be seen by the public.
