characters: ranpo, dazai, chuuya, poe, atsushi, [your favorites] SEPARATE! if you dont wanna do em all you can just do poe and ranpo lol also you can insert blue lock characters if you want to 👍
i want isagi so bad frfr ALSO HONKAI STAR RAIL CAELUS WHY ISNT ANYONE TALKING ABOUT HIM LIKE HELLO??? TRASH CAN BOYFRIEND??? HES SO HOT TOO? I WANT HIM TOO FRFR
i hope youre having a good day i am indeed alive!!

A NIA REQUESTTTTTTTTTTTT OMG YES
Rubber duckie, you're the one~
Tumblr media
♡ pairing: Ranpo Edogawa, Dazai Osamu, Chuuya Nakahara, Edgar Allan Poe, Atsushi Nakajima, Mykola Hohol, Tecchou Suehiro x gn!Reader
♡ synopsis: You bring rubber ducks into the bath.
♡ cw: Swearing, nudity I guess??? It's not NSFW lmao but gotta cover my bases
note: HELLO NIA. I want you to know that I AM gonna be doing a BLLK version of this some time after I've finished this one. Also I don't know much about Honkai Star Rail but isn't Caelus basically like that game's equivalent of Aether from Genshin? I'm uncultured T-T These are just crack hcs lol uh yeah apologies for errors and I hope you enjoy x
Tumblr media
Ranpo:
Bold of you to assume this mf didn't bring his own rubber ducks
The bathtub is overcome with your shared aquatic fowl. You two are having an absolute field day in there (and not like a regular field day, but like a Magic School Bus field day)
Maybe they have a war or something. Or maybe they establish a peace agreement and the two leaders of your different duck nations get married to form a union
You guys end up staying in the tub until the water is freezing
Honestly though, you probably benefitted from having a little while to both just indulge in childish behaviour without any judgement or consequences. And it was super fun so no regrets
After the first time you guys decide to start having shared baths every now and then when things get too stressful at work, so you could blow off steam in a harmless and fun way
But you two don't tell anybody. I mean Ranpo still brings rubber ducks to public bathhouses because he's just like that but nobody else ever finds out the true extent of your duck-related shenanigans
10/10 would recommend bubble bath rubber duck therapy w/ autistic manchild 👍
Dazai:
He didn't expect it, but he likes it!
Dazai probably never washes himself ever so he was already quite on board with the idea of having a bath with you (he gets to see you nakey and have clean hair for once? Like what a win)
Also I reckon he's the kinda guy who really enjoys bubble baths and plays with them and gets the bathroom all messy with the bubbles (me too Dazai)
So he was pretty hyped for this. But then you dump like fifty rubber ducks into the bath and NOW IT'S TIME TO GET FUNKY
Dazai has definitely never played with them before. He's amused with the way they float, with the fact that they make noise when you squeeze them, their big stupid eyes and everything about them
He initially wants to question why you have so many of them or where you got them from but then he just as quickly decides that he doesn't really wanna know the answer
Is he as invested in the ducks as you are? No, but he's very curious about them and finds it nice that you enjoy them so much
Probably wraps one in bandages and gives it to you so you're always thinking of him or smth 💀 (it's cute though)
Chuuya:
If Chuuya has run you a bath he probably intended for it to be romantic and relaxing
And then you bringed in the duckies
After a quick discussion you two do compromise on a romantic bath. With rubber ducks. And it honestly ends up being more perfect than either of you expected
He'd have been willing to just let you do your thing though because he just wants you to be happy but mans works too hard to pass up an opportunity to relax in the bath with you
So what ends up happening is you two just cuddle in the bath and talk about life and romance and stuff, and there's also ducks floating there, entirely out of place
Like Chuuya would have pulled out all the stops. Candles and wine and stuff, so like a pretty mature scene that does not accommodate for rubber ducks, and yet there they are
But he thinks it's really cute how into the ducks you are so he lets you keep them around
He would definitely buy you more rubber ducks in the future just to see you smile. Chuuya is down so bad for you 😌
Poe:
He's probably never even seen a rubber duck in his 1800s gothic anxietycore life
You might honestly have to explain what they are. He's like 'and they don't do anything? You just have them there for company?' and you're like 'yeah!' and he's just like
Poe would find one singular duck of yours and latch onto it. That one is his duck now and he would keep it nearby because it reminds him of you
Overall though he doesn't really get on board with it. Like after the first two minutes when the novelty fades he's like '...can we please remove them' lol
If you say yes then the bath then continues on exactly as expected. It's nice but Poe's a little insecure and shy (cuddle him pls)
If you say no then he's just gonna learn to deal with them. This man doesn't have the balls to set boundaries with you (ME TOO POE)
That being said, if Karl likes the ducks? ...oh boy he's straight up going to purchase an avalanche of them
It's really up to you whether or not the ducks catch on or not, Poe's just along for the ride whether or not he wants to be
Atsushi:
Help him
They didn't have rubber ducks in the orphanage, and Atsushi probably hasn't had a proper nice long bath in years. He did not want nor expect a horde of rubber ducks
But Atsushi loves you so much that he's willing to look past it. And the duckies actually grow on him by the time you guys get out the bath
He's always seen bathing as just that. A way to clean. But you're determined to introduce him to the wonders of bathtime and make up for the childhood he wasn't allowed to have
He mostly just goes along with you and doesn't really match your energy, but he absolutely loves seeing you so excited about the ducks
He would definitely like the idea of baths being a cute couply thing for you guys to do though so whether or not you got your ducks with you is honestly irrelevant
But you do. And so he accepts them as a part of being with you. In sickness and health or whatever idk nobody loves me lmao
Just make sure that you give Atsushi as much attention as you give to the ducks okay?
Mykola:
Mykola has literally never been happier in his entire life
This was the moment when he realised that you were the one for him. His soulmate, his one and only
He doesn't care how many ducks there are, he just cares that there's ducks. And that you're the one who bought them into the bathtub.
The pair of you wreak havoc on the bathroom. Like with Ranpo, y'all were just being a little playful. You and Mykola straight up destroy the whole room
You two spend hours in there coming up with names, extended backstories and lore of each rubber duck and it gets so complicated so fast
He would also give each one of them a different voice while you guys are messing around. Theatre kid moment
You've now given him the idea to just randomly present you with rubber ducks at any time, regardless of the scenario. Your collection grows tenfold due to this bastard and Fyodor is not pleased about it. Not when Mykola is interrupting DOA meetings with fucking ducks
The poor repair guys you hire to fix the bathroom...they're so confused T-T
Tecchou:
Straight up just does not react. This shit is a regular Tuesday for him
LET'S NOT PRETEND THAT HE DOESN'T OWN RUBBER DUCKS BECAUSE HE LITERALLY DOES I SAID SO
And he just lets them float there in the bath and pays no mind to them. Doesn't play with them, talk to them or whatever. It's just nice to have some silent, non-judgemental company sometimes
Tecchou doesn't strike me as someone who would suggest that you two take a bath together, so it was most likely your idea. He went along with it because relaxing in a steamy room with you sounded nice, but in reality you just wanted to show him the ducks
And though he might have seemed disinterested he was so happy to know that you and him had a similar interest
You two are so good for each other that way <3 (good = autistic I guess, because Tecchou is canon autism I decided)
So while you play with the ducks or whatever he just sits there content and watches you do so with a little smile. Probably calls you cute at some point entirely catching you offguard
You two make it a regular thing, but Jouno probably finds out somehow and it's just a whole other can of worms I won't go into rn

A/N: Here she is. Seriously Aro is wicked fun to write and as I told Vas (@vasiktomis) reader/MC kinda ripped the reins from my hands. Is she (as in reader/MC) a lil coo coo bananas? Yes. Did she stretch my abilities as a writer? Yes. Were there times that I agonized over a singular word choice for an embarrassing amount of time? Oh yes. A lot of firsts in this fic for me as a writer. Very proud of myself. Thanks for reading. Also I'm so unserious about Aro. No funky aesthetic gif for this one. He's simply too silly. I also post all my stuff on both Tumblr and AO3. Same handle!
Pairing: Aro Volturi x F!Reader
Words: 6.6k
Warnings: gore (consider yourself warned), implied intimate partner abuse in flashbacks, death (no major characters), arachnophobia, reader has powers having to do with nightmares and is crazy, so is Aro, it’s the Volturi you kinda know what you’re getting into
Summary: After taking matters into your own hands, you swear never to be weak a day in the rest of your eternity. The Volturi can help with that.
Tumblr media
“What I am left wondering is why you have suddenly found yourself in want of membership to the Volturi. You denied us quite emphatically those many years ago.”
“I was under a year into my immortality, Caius. You must forgive the blunders of my youth.”
Indeed, that many years ago you had declined their invitation. But that was when you still had your youthful fire about you. In so many years you had traded it in for temperance.
Still Caius narrowed his eyes from the platform. Only two of those splendiferous thrones were occupied at the moment -- a naked helm. Heidi had assured you that Aro was well on his way. That had been 3 minutes ago when Caius had decided to put you on trial for no other reason than him not being present.
Marcus watched on with those ancient eyes. They must have always looked old, you thought to yourself. You couldn’t imagine Marcus’ eyes looking any younger than time itself. And Caius’ eyes -- well… Very well. You’d let him enjoy this silly little power trip. There was something of a cruel smile lifting the edge of his lip.
“I have the time to hold a grudge.”
“Have you nothing better to do with eternity than harbor petty anger? My, my, you truly do not play well with others.” Your eyes drifted to Marcus. “Have you nothing to say, old friend?”
“We are hardly old friends.”
You rolled your eyes, settling your attention back to Caius. “If you’ll excuse me, I shall speak no more until Aro arrives.”
“Why? Are you frightened?” He taunted. Bait, that’s all it was…
“Are you?”
The doors behind you swung open heavily, like a final breath. Four sets of heeled shoes struck the marble. You did not turn even as Jane and Alec walked close on either side of you, like eels as they glided up the platform standing in the background.
Heidi didn’t even so much as brush past you to go out a side door. It was an unusual occurrence to demand entrance into the Volturi especially when a previous invitation had been so rudely turned down. You were certain a number of the vampires along the walls with you were there simply to see what demise would befall you for such insolence.
The fourth set of boots slowly walked up to the direct back of you. There was no body heat to speak for Aro but you knew it was him. The eyes of all the people in the room suddenly on you could not mean anything else.
“Did you receive a warm welcome?” His voice hit the back of your head and it was no louder than a lover whispering their intentions.
You straightened, your eyes piercing Caius where he stood. “Something like that.”
Aro finished the pace around you. “You are very brave to have come here.” His eyes scanned the walls. He was looking to see if it was true that you had come alone.
“I was hoping it might be rewarded.”
“Hope…” He tasted the word. “Now that’s a word I have not heard in a good while.”
Half of a smile spread across your face. “You’re welcome.”
“Hm.” Aro looked you up and down, amused, before continuing his path to his throne. The three men on the platform finally sat. “And I… well, perhaps I should not assume a thing. Why don’t you tell me why you are here?”
The blonde vampire stole the silence from you. You couldn’t help but think that the angelic color was wasted on him. He would be blonde. “Foolish girl, she’s changed her mind!”
“Caius, I did ask her to tell, did I not?” Aro only dignified the man with a slight turn of his head. He set his jaw and sunk back into his throne a little. Aro’s hand gestured for you to continue.
“It is true,” you responded. As much as it pained you to soothe Caius’ temper via agreeability you were not above it especially now. “I would like to petition for entry to the Volturi.”
The laugh of all the vampires in the room made it all the more funny, you supposed. Even Marcus’ perpetually morose eyes tilted up as he chuckled.
Aro only smiled. “Now my dear…”
“I am aware of my past petulence-”
“Ooh, that was not petulence,” he corrected you, leaning forward. “Petulence is far too generous. You were rude.”
You gulped. It was true. You had been rude those 200 years ago. Very rude.
Aro continued. “I believe you said… what were the words you used…?”
Marcus cleared his throat. “Allow me. ‘The Volturi are a semblance of order. Their actions are a colossal mimicry of law and the leaders are just as big of fools for as long as they stand if they believe that their offers of entry are anything more than an identification of spinelessness in the subject if they accept such a thing.’” Curse him for his memory. “Something like that.”
His really good memory.
The helmsman of the Volturi raised his brows at that. “Your recollection is pristine, Marcus. My goodness, such scathing words… I had forgotten.”
“‘Go to hell, you greedy fucks’ too,” Caius added, that hint of a cruel smile earlier was now a complete grin. “Can’t forget that either.”
“That last one was not me actually.” A glower from the blonde vampire. “My sire, rest his soul-” I hope he is eternally suffering, “-should be properly credited for that.”
There was a chuckle from all three on the platform, even Jane smiled a little. Although it was better than how you had begun it still was not a good sign.
“Yes, rest his soul.” Aro tilted his chin up. “Whatever did happen to him?”
A test. Aro knew what had happened. Everyone in the room knew what had happened. Or they knew a version. “My coven at the time… handled him and went our separate ways.”
It was not a lie.
“Yes, I suppose you did handle it.” Aro remarked. “It was startling to hear about, just like that, ripped limb from limb by your coven.” He didn’t trust you. Why would he?
You swept up the steps before him and wordlessly knelt, reaching a hand up. A young woman reaching her hand up to a young man, both centuries old. Jane and Alec stepped forward in warning, flanking Aro’s throne. Your eyes flitted between them. An impasse. Still you kept your hand outstretched to Aro who had taken a small step forward in your approach. Your eyes landed back on him. Please.
Aro regarded you coolly; it was colored by something else though. Intrigue. Curiosity. Hunger. The last time Aro had read you had been 200 years ago; you had so much less control then. You remembered him snatching his hands away from yours as your nightmares, or rather his, had sloppily tumbled toward him while he flitted through your memory. Two horrible truths slamming into one another -- a mutual bruise, the two of you. Your talents were similar, all thing considered.
“You can look,” you whispered up at him. “I am better at this now.”
Something of a warm smile dawned on him, if indeed Aro could ever be described as warm, as he crouched down. His red, milky eyes bore into yours and then, gently, one of his hands tucked under your palm and the other covered your knuckles. You bridled the lightning fast nightmares as the man pushed forward.
Just like the first time it had happened, it felt like nothing more than the pad of a thumb releasing held pages as they rushed for the cover of a book. Aro flicked through two centuries of life in ten seconds, his eyes darting between yours as he passively consumed.
The story had to begin with the truth that covens did not turn on each other. In technicality it was not that it had turned on itself -- just all against the self-declared leader who held all of you in a vice-like grip. You refused to even give him his name in your memory, yet another way to kill him back in a way that truly mattered.
His inclinations of you showing abilities upon your turning were unfortunately well-guessed. You cursed your sire for the rest of your days for his early but ultimately rare stroke of clairvoyance. With time you would learn that he was no stranger to fear as a weapon either.
Aro pushed forward, unreadably neutral. The memory of the first time you ever used your abilities somersaulted through your consciousness. You had gone well beyond the bounds of the perimeter that had been set for you by your captor. It was direct disobedience to your sire’s orders and the vampire passing through never saw it coming. The spooking they had done you was a complete accident. Their intentions to take the human body you were feeding on, however, were undeniably loaded with malice.
You had only intended to shoot them a glare but something about the tense moment, about them approaching you with a hand reaching out to what was in yours… that’s what started it. You heard it first, an impossibly low thunder like something far beneath the earth pushing its way up; they heard it too. Your crouch was something feral when you did it and the nightmares that crashed into that poor vampire tumbled into your mind too. To that though you were a spectator, privy to the innermost workings of what horrified that particular individual.
Tense shoulders, a talon-like grip taking control of your hands, a furrowed brow. Your eyes snapped shut; while the nightmares were never your personal bane they hardly offered any comfort. You saw it all. It would be the first of many in the coming eternity.
Their shrinking hands slashing and clawing through phantom blood, unable to cup it, unable to consume any of it in a vicious bout of craving. Frantically pressing themselves into the ground as the endless blood on the ground began draining into the soil. They were withering by the second. It didn’t matter to the vampire that it was utterly ridiculous.
The vampire before you, the real version, collapsed to the ground; you heard it, like a snare cutting through reverberating bass. You didn’t open your eyes until their breath came out in pants, as if they were suffocating on too much air. And it stopped. Just like that. An end to the focus ending their nightmare.
Aro cocked his head, continuing to read you. In hindsight, you wished you had cut and run right then. You would have had a head start. Your sire wouldn’t have caught you in the few moments he had made the mistake of leaving you alone. From that moment on, he forced you to be at his side. You remembered the berating you had gotten for your disobedience that followed after his wide-eyed realization that you could do what you had done to the weeping vampire.
With that, you became the prize of the coven; it was your abilities that afforded your sire his longevity. He made you play with his food sometimes; asking what you saw as you screwed your eyes shut. You told yourself it was from the effort. In truth it was not any harder than flicking down a wooden block had been in your mortal youth.
No, you strained with the wretched knowledge that the only thing you really had a knack for was holding out a mirror. The beastly things you saw -- what frightened the most deplorable of individuals. It was sick; in every horrid vision you churned out, you saw the inner workings of the mind, of the filthy things that these monsters had done in their conscious lives. The worst thing about your abilities was that the most frequent nightmare you bore witness to was them getting what they had deserved. Revenge. Balance. Order. Justice.
It was true. Yours and Aro’s gifts weren’t really that different. You saw a lot, possibly too much of whoever had the poor luck of encountering your proficiencies.
And, oh, how your sire had loved your gift. It was precious, he said. You recalled a time he had even called it artistry. It was after you used it, after you saw the depravity of human and vampire kind that he cradled your head between his heavy hands. You learned to savor the moments where he wasn’t throwing them around. And during those times when you deeply pleased him by what you were able to do, you saw him bloat with the intoxication of power. It would be many years until you really used your gift but it took little guesswork to know then what he feared: the loss of control -- the loss of you. Motivated by pride he kept turning others, stopping at the fifth of your covenmates when he realized that he had really only lucked out on his first try -- also, you.
That was when you had been initially approached. Your sire had never once received so much as a greeting from the Volturi; he never let you forget how bitter it made him. Unfortunately, his hold on you also included passing down his opinion. By the time the Volturi got to you, you had been spoiled against them. Only time would truly tell whether you would be forgiven for it.
At this moment, though his red eyes were set on you, Aro wasn’t really looking though -- not the present-you anyways. It was subtle, the way his brows and lips fluttered up and down as if fighting his own desire to respond. His expression sobered briefly.
You had spent centuries with the man, your sire… he was brutal. Even you were not immune to his rage. Each of your covenmates were strong in their own rights but none of you were singularly stronger than him. The Volturi’s arrival and immediate departure was one of the worst days of your life. You remembered holding one of your sisters, the sixth, the youngest, after it all. She begged you to stay and endure with her. And for two hundred years the two of you, all of you kept that promise to each other.
It had been one too many cruel moments when the dam broke. It was the moment that all of you realized that while you were too individually weak, he couldn’t handle all of you. You did the honors of the inaugural blow -- undoing him with nightmares of his own demise as it came to fruition. It was the only time in all of your years of using your abilities that you hadn’t clenched your eyes shut and shrunk away. No, that time… that time you had leaned forward, eyes unblinking as you watched him writhe in fear before what was left of him was instead writhing in pain. It was easy, like dropping a heavy bucket with little care of what happened to its contents.
As Aro dug, it was only then that you realized you smiled when you’d done it. It was funny, you supposed, that your sire’s worst fear had come to pass right as it transpired just moments before in his mind. The six of you, your five covenmates and yourself, tore him to shreds. No blood that you had tasted or would ever taste compared to the delicious freedom of his eternal rest. He died, truly died, afraid. He deserved worse.
It was short-lived though. After centuries of subjugation, the sudden freedom was a blessing and a curse and not a single one of you could really agree on what to do except to leave. It was devastating in the same way you would see the final struggle of a living thing fighting off its final moments before succumbing; they were certainly in a better place. Two of them went on their own. The other three traveled together elsewhere. At the end of it you found yourself alone and not wanting to be weak again a day in your life.
While the rebellion had been justified, it was an overthrow of power, something especially dangerous in the halls of Volterra and you had been the ring leader. After all, you were the only one in the group with a talent.
Aro rose to his feet, gently tugging you up with him. “Now that does complicate the narrative, doesn’t it…”
Your eyes flickered to Caius who was in turn staring him down. “Oh, come off it, Aro. You are not honestly considering letting her in.” He stalked up to where the two of you were standing. You looked up at both of the men, still a step below. “The Volturi do not give second chances!”
“If I may, I am not asking for a second chance.” Bold… This was bold of you… “I am petitioning for membership on the grounds that it was offered once before. Your opinions of me have not changed since the initial offer.”
“Yes, they have.” Caius spat.
“Mine haven’t,” Aro confirmed. “Although I wouldn’t be so sure that is a good thing.”
Bright red eyes bore down as you finally pulled your hand from his grasp. His fingertips brushed along your knuckles before his hands lowered in kind. Him looking through your mind just moments prior felt less invasive. You directed your attention instead to the less intense of the two.
“We should have killed you the second you walked in here.”
Very well. “If it is an apology you want I will give it.” Your eyes were locked on Caius, pure impudence meeting unbridled sadism. You knew it drove him crazy.
“Foolish girl-!”
“I am sorry!” You snapped at him. The words came out more like ‘shut up.’ They were just as effective though. Caius stood silent although the sneer was still on his face. Of course that would do it for him. You knew it. It was disgusting. Oh, how he loved seeing people grovel. The hate in that man’s heart…
You suddenly remembered yourself. Aro had seen that -- your distaste for Caius, your willingness to do anything to be a member of the Volturi, your deep regret that your sire had influenced you to be so brash. That was one of the worst things your sire ever did: convincing you that his opinions were yours.
“I will repeat to you what I said to you earlier. Forgive me for the insolence of my early days. It was unwise of me to have behaved in such a way… and-” You were practically choking on your apology, uselessly panting with the effort. Admittance that you were wrong had a bad mouthfeel, especially after decades being forced to do it. “-and I was wrong about all of it. Consider me corrected.”
If Caius had been biting back any of his cruel amusement before, he certainly wasn’t hiding it now. Marcus was now standing closer having meandered nearer during the course of the apology. And Aro… Aro had the most curious of soft smiles on his face.
You were beginning to think you had made some kind of mistake coming here. You had laid almost all your cards bare. You had shown them you were desperate which was far worse than just being desperate. This was something you were going to have to amend for a good while if they accepted you. That you begged to be let in.
“I am satisfied,” Caius remarked, eyes settling on Aro. They were standing over you, all three of them.
Some days ago you had come across a rat moments before it was devoured by three street dogs in an alleyway on your journey to Volterra. It must have looked like something like this to that rather unfortunate vermin, you thought to yourself.
Your head dropped in complete and utter humility, eyes only on the marble underfoot. Even the pristine stone was too good for you… You had been at the mercy of the three men before you since you set foot in this dreadful place. It was only at that premature moment you still had an ounce of pride in your body. It was far gone now.
“Marcus?”
“I am satisfied.”
“As am I.” Cold smooth fingers tucked under your chin. Aro’s. You must have looked something pitiful. “And this-” Aro tutted at you, lifting your face up. “-we will work on this.”
The gesture might have been kind, intimate even, if it was anyone but Aro. You didn’t really trust him as far as you could throw him but you knew enough in having seen his nightmares many years ago that he would not tolerate an ounce of self-deprecation in a vampire beyond paying their due respects to the Volturi, to him. He had seen quite enough from you. That much was true.
“Yes… sir?” You tested the title. You weren’t quite sure what to refer to him as.
Aro’s face took on something of a delighted expression. “Look at you using your manners. See, Caius; she learns.” The blonde vampire rolled his eyes. “I do appreciate it but ‘Aro’ will do just fine.”
Ah. Well, that was embarrassing. You nodded affirmatively. Marcus’ eyes flicked from Aro to you and back before he returned to his seat. Out of the corner of your eye you saw Jane smile something wicked.
“We shall get you new attire, especially now that you will be joining the guard after some fine-tuning, but there’s no sense in putting you in anything of the sort since we’re coming up on-” The side doors swung open and Heidi led in a group of tourists who were guffawing at the ceiling. Aro’s hands flew up like a child prince being brought an expensive present. In a sense, it was -- “-dinnertime!”
Oh, so this was how they fed. Aro steered you to the side and behind him with a hand clamped around your upper arm. Heidi sidled up to you.
“Welcome to the Volturi.”
“How did you know?”
“You are still in one piece.” Fair.
Aro leaned over to you. “Now, next time you will join your compatriots along the wall but tonight we will make an exception -- something of a welcome gift…” He extended his arm to the group of mortals before you who were clicking pictures of the room. Like fish in a bucket… or however the expression went.
You raised a brow at him.
“You first, my dear.”
A vampire along the wall by the name of Felix bobbed on his feet, antsy. You smiled and launched off the platform for the human before you. The both of you rolled together as you slammed him into the ground. Only his limbs flailed clumsily. Yours had been a vision of centuries of practice. A trained killer.
You bared your teeth. He screamed. Humans…
Tumblr media
Wandering aimlessly about the grounds, such expansive ones at that and with such independence, was novel to you. You weren’t entirely sure what to do with yourself; it was beautiful. Just months ago you had been sequestered to your corner of the world, never to go beyond a painfully small perimeter. And now here you were… surrounded by the most powerful of your kind. Nearly unrestricted access to the grounds. New clothes. Fresh blood, not whatever your sire didn’t finish. Eyes never black with hunger. The respect you got as a tentative member of the Volturi guard. It was new.
And the Italian air. Sure, you didn’t really need to breathe at all. There wasn’t a function to smelling it. But the air… The breeze in Volterra was something fresh, warm, earthy, sweet, like blood. It was even more perfumy at night.
Something about the years of being on edge, even as an immortal, still ran through your veins, through the very way you functioned. Even in your most relaxed moments, you could recognize when you were being followed. And someone was following you.
You stopped in your tracks, only peering over your shoulder.
A fraction of you thought to yourself -- how odd… Aro should’ve been better at this. Then you realized two things. The first was that if Aro was truly aiming for discretion in whatever he was about to do, there was no reason for it to be him here and now. The second was that it was also entirely possible that Aro simply didn’t care that you knew he was there… or, in fact, did want you to know. Your curiosity was a helpless one; you must’ve looked like a cat.
“I was wondering when you were going to catch on.”
Only the trees in the garden obscured him from you, not the darkness. “How did I do?”
Silence as he rounded the corner. Black suit. Red eyes. Dark hair slicked back. You let him approach until he was a pace away, slowly continuing. “Ten seconds before you caught me… there are a good many vampires who would have gone much longer if noticing me at all.”
“Will you subtract a moment or two since I contemplated not acknowledging you?”
“Hearsay.”
“Only if you have the ability to corroborate and don’t.” You held your hand out to the side toward him, stopping in your tracks.
Aro only looked at it from the side of his eye, not even stopping. He did grace you with a smile though. “I should like to keep my victory unnegotiated.”
Ah, yes… the cat walking next to whatever you could call it that killed it. You closed the distance with a few long strides, now playing catch up with him. “You were loud.”
“I was not aiming for stealth.” If Aro was trying to humble you, it was working.
“And what was your target then?”
Silence again. It was comfortable. In time you came upon your favorite spot in the gardens — the point at which you could overlook the better portion of the town. It was beautiful -- quiet and empty for the most part at this time of night but the evidence of mortality there, living and dying… well, you still found it charming.
“Would now be the appropriate time to thank you?”
“For heaven's what?”
“For…” You finally looked at him beside you. He wasn’t looking at you; perhaps he was gazing beyond this little enclave in Tuscany. “For your hospitality.”
“Hospitality is for guests.”
“I was a guest for a small while.”
“You were more of a defendant.”
“Well, then, I thank you for your arbitration.”
“My ‘arbitration’?”
“Yes.”
Aro exhaled for the show of it. “Do stop your simpering and get on with what you mean.”
You were speechless.
“I didn’t say ‘shut up,’ did I?”
You blinked at him. “I suppose… I am grateful to be somewhere nicer.”
“I can hardly be thanked for your decision to come here.” He still refused to regard you. You imagined it was a rare thing for Aro to resist such expressions of the kind. He was a proud man after all. You looked back out at Volterra.
Aro finally turned his eyes to you. It was a withering look. Now that you obliged. “I saw quite a bit in that mind of yours. It is such a shame that you were thoroughly convinced of such horrible things.”
You were confused. “The only thing that I was convinced of was inferiority.”
“Like I said,” he snipped. “Horrible things.”
“Now how is that horrible,” you inquired. Surely this did not bother him personally. Aro did not strike you as the type. “I do you no injury in my lack of pride.”
“And you think it is good for the Volturi’s reputation, for the guard’s reputation to have but one who thinks themselves lesser than even humans?” Aro seemed to shudder at the ‘h word.’
Oh. There it was. He was right. Your head lowered.
He tilted your chin up for the second time. It wasn’t as gentle. This time it was a scolding. Aro was not pleased. He released it looking back onto the town. “And you must stop that. It’s unbecoming.”
It was lost on you how to respond. “Sorry.”
“Already forgiven, my dear.”
“I guess… I just want to thank you for taking a chance.”
Aro scoffed and looked at you fully. He wasn’t a tall man; his height was hardly what made him intimidating. What made him intimidating was the stature with which he carried himself, the raw power, the hunger, the intelligence. A man like him hadn’t gotten to where he was without some impressive cunning.
“I might find low esteem from my subordinates satisfactory on the usual occasion. I will not mince my words -- on you it is a most distasteful thing. I will forgive its ugliness for its reaffirmation but only for a time.”
If there was any functional air in your lungs, it would’ve been snatched from you. His words were not harshly spoken nor were they loudly boomed at you. Instead they broke skin like something sharp to vulnerable flesh. Aro took an imposing step forward. You took one back but it wasn’t enough. Your neck was craned up at him despite every inner instinct to shrink away; you wouldn’t dare disobey him again. You weren’t sure he would be as kind.
“There is nothing so abhorrent as one of our kind — our superior, beautiful kind — acting in the embarrassing way you continue to. If I was capable of emptying my stomach at the thought, I would.” Aro plucked something minute off your shoulder before rolling it between his long fingers and discarding it to the wind. “And as far as taking a chance is concerned, I- The Volturi- do not ‘take chances.’ Make no mistake, there is no calculated risk with you being here.”
“I-”
“If that is an apology or another meaningless expression of gratitude poised on your tongue, I would advise that you hold it there.”
You could only gape up at him. He was leaning over you still, very close.
“You will show the full extent of your gifts tomorrow. I want you officially in the guard as soon as possible.” And with that, Aro was gone, stalking away into the gardens.
Tumblr media
With about 12 hours to ruminate on Aro’s words to you, you had decided that he had a flair for melodrama. You also decided definitively that you would never let him know such a thing unless he pried the information from you, which he was indeed capable of. This… what you were being made to do before the Volturi… You would not define it with such levity. When Aro had said that you were to display the full extent of your gifts, he had meant it.
It wasn’t certain whether it was you or the man writhing on the ground that was the subject of the gripping fear that your nightmares brought, what with your upper body being curled in on itself the way it was. Your fingers were curled at the ends of your locked arms with effort. The unfortunate human’s whimpers rattled along the domed ceiling, merely an accessory to the deep hum in your ears.
There was an exaggerated yawn from behind you — showy for a vampire — Jane’s. And a voice cut through the whole of it, halting your powers immediately. “No, no. That won’t do at all.”
Because you had already been shrinking away at the time of the interruption you needed only to open your eyes. The body thudded to the floor. Relief. It wouldn’t last. Aro was shaking his head as he leaned against his throne.
“You, my dear-” he pushed off his spot and stopped just behind you “-are holding back.”
The man, as far as you could tell, was only deeply phobic of spiders. It was how you had done it the dozens of times you’d done it before. Except for…
Out of the corner of your eye, Caius held a finger to his temple, rolling his eyes. Asshole… Aro’s voice pulled you back. “Try again.”
You clenched your eyes shut, your chest coiling up in kind. The man began wheezing almost instantaneously, the only sound in the room.
“No.” Aro cut in once again and you dropped focus. You turned to face him, your muscles loosening in the way that only annoyance could make them. His red eyes glimmered back at you. “That is not what I meant. Again.”
You huffed. You’ve done it once before, his face seemed to say. Who were you kidding… that was exactly what his sharp features said. When you had channeled that much power, you had been in an entirely different state of mind. That had been the raw rage you had buckled behind survival. All you had done was suddenly unleash it. You weren’t certain that you still had it in you. “Aro. I can’t-”
“Ah, ah, ah.” Nonsense. His hand straightened to a point — the human, once more.
You faced more of your body, still tense, eyes clamping shut. Your arms locked to your sides and you willed the fear forward before you tensed — thunder in your ears. Your muscles reacted in pure instinct, the man weeping in perfect time. Despite the overwhelming physical sensation of pushing the abstract forward, you could feel Aro behind you. It was stronger this time.
Oh, the man wasn’t just afraid of spiders.
Between the spiders, flickering amidst the impossible number of angular legs and blinking sets of eyes, the insects that dribbled into every corner of his vision, there was something else. A girl with one dark eye and a knife. She was young.
You jolted backward, knocking briefly against Aro. If he minded he didn’t indicate any such sentiment. Your lip curled into a sneer. The human… he was pleading with a higher power that was certainly not listening if it was there at all. Pathetic.
When your eyelids closed this time they didn’t tighten. It was a flutter. And this time when your muscles tensed, you trembled. Where there was air between the clawed fingers at your side, you imagined the man’s fleshy neck. This… this was righteous. The girl began closing in, spiders skittering out of her path.
Aro’s voice brushed your ear. “May I?” You nodded your head, although you weren’t certain as to what exactly you were agreeing to. Aro would not harm you; you were sure of it.
It felt like a baptism. In a way it was. Feather light, Aro’s fingers ghosted first at the base of your neck, gently pulling the muscles out to your shoulders. In the touch you were acutely aware that it wasn’t intimacy that Aro was after; he was honing you. Your nightmares were only encouraged.
Aro’s hands smoothed over your shoulders with a quiet mastery -- tender in the way a sculptor guided pliable clay between their fingers as it spun at their behest. The harshness was gone with but a swipe.
The man bellowed. He sounded now more of a screeching animal than man. The girl picked up her pace, almost a jog. The knife winked at him.
It turned into a full grasp as Aro traveled down your biceps, tugging the astriction out. He chased the natural form of the muscle down your elbows into the joint of your wrist. The rigidity in your fingers released at the pressure he placed there -- conjoined in poise.
You pushed a stronger assault of terror forward to meet the man. Long gone were the spiders. There was a small part of you that recognized that he wished for the insects instead of the young girl with a bruise ready to bury the knife in his chest, his stomach, anywhere the business end would find purchase. She was standing over him.
He screamed. Yes, ‘scream’ was the right word for it…
You spectated his nightmare; the girl with the dark eye had already started plunging her blade into him. Again. Again. Again. Again.
Aro’s hands shed themselves from your arms but only for a moment. Your chin bloomed with the familiar feeling of his fingers, turning it and angling it upright. Proud as it was meant to be.
He whispered again. “Look.” It was a gruesome sight.
The possibility that the man had begun gouging out his own eyes the moment Aro had begun amending your posture was a good one. If that was the case he had indeed made decent progress. The man was on his knees and his left eye hung from its socket like a generous helping of hot cheese, swinging. You almost wanted to applaud the man’s zeal. Only a desperate rodent would have done what he had. His grubby fingers pushed into his own skull again, getting around the other eye, bemoaning his self-inflicted plight. He seemed to be chewing the air. There was viscera on the marble -- not the first time it had been so defiled and it certainly wouldn’t be the last.
Still, you didn’t relent; you had never extended your power this far. God, why hadn’t you done it before… Sure, you- no, he had taken his eyes but somehow it wasn’t enough. The young girl brandishing the blood-soaked knife was still angry. This was justice. And he hadn’t yet paid in full.
He howled, writhing.
Marcus approached at the very edge of your vision. “Aro… is this-?”
He was halted by an upheld hand, the other slowly falling from your chin. Aro watched you as you watched the man, watched his nightmares.
“We needn’t toy any longer.”
The thunder in your ears rumbled to silence. “This is toying? If you saw what I saw, you’d know…”
Marcus seemed taken aback. You weren’t sure if it was because of how true your words were or how right they sounded coming from your mouth.
You drifted back to the man. “He deserves it.” Your voice came out no louder than a whisper.
“It’s alright, Marcus. We asked for an assessment-” The ensuing squelch and sudden cry indicated the man had found success on his second endeavor. “-and we have indeed received one.”
You found Aro’s eyes with yours.
There was something of an assuaged smile -- his bright teeth wolfish. The feeling of your cheeks pulled up was the only sign to yourself that you had been smiling. You took the moment to look about the room. Caius was staring at the man on the floor, mouth slightly ajar.
“Well?”
He turned his head first then his eyes. A grin.
You beheld the grotesque body with a sneer. He hadn’t even had the decency to look artful as he went -- his body held upright by the leverage of his spine against his heels. Pathetic. The way he dug at his own face like that… like you were some tumor, something he could just rip out of himself if he tried hard enough and be done with. He died as stupid as he looked. Your chest flared at the offense.
Aro was still standing near you. “Par excellence.”
You digested his words. You understood now. This was what he had known you were capable of. In just moments, Aro had cured you of your affliction, the debilitation of timidity. You matched his smile.
“Would now be the appropriate time to thank you?”
It was met with a giddy laugh. Aro clapped his hands together, utterly delighted at your words, your smile. He gulped it down and stepped backward offering you an expressive bow complete with arms outstretched. “No ‘thanks’ necessary. You… you are a credit to our kind.”
You bobbed your head in courteous reply to his own bow, unable to hide your giggle.
“You were never anything but.”

Hi there! Playlist anon again. I listened to the whole thing and here are my thoughts. I hope this isn't over reaching cause I really enjoyed it overall and would love to see the rest 🙏🏽. Buckle in this is longgg
Rivers is a Vampire- Sonic would dance fight Shadow to this song (like in the original puss in boots, look up the scene I swear it's great).
Loose Cannon- it's both so Shadow and Sonic coded but it's funnier if it's Shadow realizing he likes Sonic. More likely it's supposed to be Sonic @ Shadow and it really fits. 10/10 putting it on my personal playlists.
Genius - this is Sonic having a jam sesh in his bedroom. 7.5/10 very in character, you're going to make me start liking rock music.
Assassin- 9/10 Shadow in his emo boy bag. The verses feel like Shadow in his head thinking he's hot shit (he's right), but the chorus feels like Rouge trying to talk him down. Overall big fan.
Lost- Honestly really love the vibes of this one. It sounds like Sonic and Hoax fighting/ talking or just Sonic debating with himself. Love the jaunty music with the sinister undertones.Fading World- 7/10(<- could be higher depending on personal taste) A nice interplay between Sonic's cheery friendliness and Shadow's.... everything. A nice world building song if that makes sense. If vamp au! were a level in a game this would play.
Moon Trance- A vampire nobility song if that makes sense. Kinda gives off Blaze if Sonic were dropping in with EDM beats. World building song.
Phantom of the Opera Overture- Shadow once again in his emo bag. Listening to this I imagine him dramatically posed as Ophelia in the river as Rouge looks on utterly unimpressed. Another world building song.
Dear Wormwood- 10/10 Devastating. This feels like when Shadow discovers Rogue is a vampire (if that's still canon?) and could work for the Sonic/Hoax reveal but to a much lesser extent.
Galacta Knight Theme- 5/10. Not bad but I'm not entirely sure how it fits. Feels like a world building song but lacks the rock and goth roots of its predecessors. I wanna say it feels like an Eggman song?
Trouble- Rouge song very fun (Shadow if you get a microscope). Good for a chase scene or playful fight.
Look What You Made Me Do Remix- Shadow after Sonic sneaks an extra sip of blood. 8/10 Shadow wouldn't be a Swiftie but he would bop to a song or two.
Bodies- GODDDDD 10/10. Shadow tracking a vampire to a party in his vulture outfit and having to maneuver his way to stealthily kill them (can't remember clearly if Shadow's actively a vampire hunter in the au rn but you get the vibe /pos).
Vampire Culture- like I said before Shadow being a hater /pos. Somebody get this boy a weighted blanket he needs to chill 8/10. I imagine he plays this as he puts on each vampire repellent stud and piercing.
The Magic 8- A very Sonic song in message but also Amy with the talk of magic. Funky duet? They'd probably sing this at Shadow 9/10.
Who's in Control- 10/10 Another Sonic/ Hoax talking song (I interpret their dynamic to be that Hoax has less inhibitions than Sonic and is overall allowed to be looser. hopefully that's close).
Why Do I- Sonic after Shadow realizes he's Hoax and they have a falling out. It feels do very Teen Beach Movie /pos. He'd get a whole musical number with backup dancers and rad sad choreography.
Blood Red Moon- World building song. Funnily enough I think you'd introduce Shadow with it. Dark foggy night, random vamp running away/ person being attacked by one, cut to Shadow standing ominously with a lightning strike for good measure. Lowkey has cowboy vibes.
Born of a Star- Feels like a happy future. The type of track that would play towards the end of a boss fight.
Drumming Song- 8/10. Very much an Amy song I like it a lot plenty of witchy vibes. Feels like it would play when she performs a powerful spell/ ritual (not sure exactly how her magic works). The chorus especially also sounds like Shadow describing the effect Hoax has on him :).
You've Created a Monster- Shadow. That's the review. This plays during a hunt or just during his morning routine. Just goofy enough to hide the emotional turmoil but serious enough to show his issues 8/10.
This is Why- Shadow whenever he sees Hoax. He's his biggest hater. Also Shadow at his job with Knuckles (he's about to punch someone's teeth in).
Figure 8- Sad Shadow hours. Probably around the time he just met Hoax and made the deal. Sounds like he's questioning his whole identity :(.
Shoot to Kill- 6/10 World building song. It's giving gathering of elders in the vampire kingdom.
Punching Bag- I've been associating the Set it Off songs with Sonic so far so at first I was thrown for a loop, but honestly? I can see him singing this after someone (Shadow) tries to kill him. It can also be a Shadow song but I find the Sonic angle very interesting.
Vampire- 9/10. ROUGE SONG. She's about to rob a man, GOOD FOR WOMEN.
Sirens- Not sure exactly this would apply to but very fun. Sounds like Shadow falling in love in a very overdramatic way but could also be Sonic. 8/10
Again sorry for the length and I hope I didn't interpret anything egregiously wrong 😭
I think the band In This Moment and their albums GODMODE, Mother and Ritual could maybe fit.
Thanks again for sharing :)🙏🏽

anon i am literally kissing you on ur nonexistent smooth gray mouth HHJDFHHSDH this is the nicest thing anyones ever given me im so giddy about this DHFSHFHSDJDSF that being said this is gonna get so long so i am adding the under cut LOL
Rivers is a Vampire- youre so fucking right for this and i wanna draw it so bad ... JKDFJKSJKF
Loose Cannon-set it offs elsewhere album is a whole banger and highly recc the whole thing >:]]] and this song is a shadow centric one ! about how hes always on the edge around everyone bc of his paranoia, and esp around hoax lol, he gets mad about being called out </333
Genius - sonic jamming to this is also so correct fdjghjdfg contrary to shadow, sonic in vampire au is just here to have a good time LMAO (u should get into rock :} BDSFBH its fun here)
Assassin- this one is rlly interesting to me bc the ENTIRE thing is intended to be a shadow callout post from sonic/hoax pov. i would not have considered this being shadow reflecting on himself at all ! but damn the rouge pov also works out really well too, i never considered that either! (originally i figured the only rouge mention would have been 'you hear whispers when were just talking' which would have been sonic and rouge talking to each other and shadow thinks they are conspiring </3)
Lost- this one is a lil complicated in my rat brain shdfhj !! this one is shadow pov! its like. about his perspective shifts across the plot in vampire au- first trying to hide from the scary vampires </3 and the screams are getting louder line ....is about maria...... i eated that part up.... "please dont find me im not ok" is a very shadowcore line and the final lost chorus meant to rep shadow eventually becoming 'lost' in what scared him but like. embracing it. this one. is hard to convey JJSDFJSD prob would need art to get across what i mean i suppose Fading World- this one is a Maria and GUN song ! :]c (dont worry about the fact its bass boosted. i am just guy who likes bass......)
Moon Trance- close !!! silver and mephiles :3333 jbhdfjdj(meph is blazes royal advisor so it does tie back to her kingdom ehe). boys who prowl and will bash your head in to this in the woods somewhere
Phantom of the Opera Overture- "Shadow once again in his emo bag. Listening to this I imagine him dramatically posed as Ophelia in the river as Rouge looks on utterly unimpressed. Another world building song." I NEED TO DRAW THIS SO FUCKING BAD AHAHH u are SO FUCKING RIGHT FOR THIS. side note, a general rule of thumb (not always but a lot) anything that sounds this fucking dramatic is shadow pov and how he imagines vampires, the real guys are just chilling dfbhgfhsd with their nerd music. shadow is vampires #1 hype man without even realizing
Dear Wormwood- this one is Primarily a shadow and GUN song !! tho there are little tidbits of others who he has discovered lied to him like rouge eggman and sonic !!! (and yes shadow finding out rouge is a vampire is still canon >:])
Galacta Knight Theme-close with the eggman bit !! a theme for geebo <333(Lance)
Tumblr media
Trouble- very correct vibes !! primarily rouge but i would add sonic in there too !! they both have that fun playful air to them tbh that i think a lot of people overlook in their canon dynamic hfgdhj
Look What You Made Me Do Remix- Shadow @ everyone tbh !! buttt primarily this is during his GUN arc when hes just so fed up with being lied to (he doesnt even know) i think if u remixed enough taylor swift into rock or metal he could get down to it fdgbjgdhjf
Bodies- YOURE SO RIGHT FOR THISSSS. esp the vulture part :]c... and the vampire hunter part is .. a little complicated ! he kinda is sometimes? theres a specific circumstance that makes him more willing to actively hunt and kill
Vampire Culture- he is absolutely blaring this in his mind while he gets ready lmaooo . big fan of weight blanket shadow tho dhgfdjg....something to draw.... fun lil fact tho... i imagine that smooth voice to be the head of GUN....
The Magic 8- i think sonic is the one singing it! but its all about amy! about her arc with her desperation to prove herself, getting consumed by her ambitions, and working with dark magic :)
Who's in Control- the sonic and hoax angle is SOOO interesting to me! i would have never thought of it bc frankly they are chill af, he does not have much turmoil about it! this has always been a HUGE shadow song esp 'living in fear, living afraid, hysterical everyday"
Why Do I- this is actually shadow @ sonic !!! reverse hehehe. this is one of the more accurate songs lmaooo, like 'wake up in cold sweats screaming your name" this song is the canon point in time where shadow first realizing he has a crush on sonic !! sonic is the reason the bastard drinks </3333
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Blood Red Moon- absolutely obsessed with your version of it oughhhh, but its always been an eggman song to me (esp with that laugh lol)! and one of his silly little schemes. defo gonna draw that shadow idea tho thats so sick (and it is SO cowboy. do not be surprised if it winds up in the desert vampire playlist)
Born of a Star- this one is a death song ! self reflection and "how did we get here"
Drumming Song- close with the chorus part ! but the entire thing is Sonic pov about how yummy yummy shadows blood is 😋 shadows heartbeat drumming in his mind !
You've Created a Monster- i was SO fucking confused when i saw this bc!!!! youtube is hiding that video from me "its not available" !! and apparently you can see it but i cant!!! im so mad but i also owe you my life bc i found the song again and it BANGS SO HARD and it is 100% shadow wanting to kill maim <3333 its also a 3 way song for shadow @ everyone/ Hoax @ shadow about how shadow seems to be forcing hoax to be the monster he fears to justify his hatred/ uh oh amy fucked up !!!!
This is Why- THE JOB ANGLE IS SO CORRECT AND FUNNY, obsessed with that. but also yeah shadow doesnt like outside </3 rouge is the one saying the coast is clear </333
Figure 8- the deal interpretation is so good...... thats all im ever gonna think about now. honestly "all for your sake, became the very thing that i hate, i lost my way, spinning in an endless figure 8" was meant to be a shadow talking about maria line! but thats all i really got from the song, the deal idea is so good.......
Shoot to Kill- i personally saw this as a shadow GUN song !! bro is more intense and focused than usual
Punching Bag- THIS CHANGED ME WTFFF, i was struggling to see it as shadow and GUN, but oh my fucking GOD, the sonic pov is so raw and i am OBSESSED with it. pissed him off one too many times !!!!!!!
Vampire- WE SUPPORT WOMENS WRONGS !!! YAY ROUGE!!!!
Sirens- this is a shadow and GUN song !! solace in their song is propaganda !! shadows ready to shoot !!! shake off some blues kill vampires !!! HES BACK IN THE NOOSE!!!! SONIC GIVE HIM ALL YOU GOT BECAUSE IF NOT THEYRE GONNA DROWN HIM OUT !!!!!!! ehe :]
i listened to Mother and couldnt immediately feel anyone out with it but ill look thru their other stuff and rack my brain !!! ty for the suggestion !!!! but omg ty SO MUCH this was so fun if u ever wanna hmu for the other playlists...... i am looking so hard.. (but no pressure !! this was already so much and im so grateful !!!)

Hi! It's anon that keeps forgetting it's Friday on Friday SO I'M SENDING THIS ON WEDNESDAY FOR LATER BEFORE I FORGET. AGAIN. (I'm also dnd anon)
I've been working on a fanfiction for almost a year now (it also happens to be a reboot of one that's almost 4 years old) and last year after posting 3 chapters I hit a really bad writer's block and got most of the way through writing the 4th, and just stopped and I was so sad because I love writing and I was really excited about the story and the characters, but I just couldn't keep going, my brain just wouldn't let me. But just the other day, my best friend (I told her about your Wayfarer.me comic, I don't know if she's read it yet but if she's here HII VALL 👋) tagged me in a writing tag game and SUDDENLY MY BRAIN IS KICKSTARTED. I'm still struggling with the same scenes, but I spent a whole day rereading the entire thing and fixing typos, and now I'm happily chipping away at the next chapter :DDDDD
I my dnd campaign hasn't started yet, but we had a session zero call a few weeks ago to go over rules and set up our character sheets on the online game board we're using, and I am VIBRATING WITH EXCITEMENT I am ecstatic and I can't wait to play I think about it every day.
Also, since I was brave enough to come out of anon, here's a ref of my character! I love him so much
Tumblr media
Juno belongs to another friend and they are bard siblings :]

I swear I hear only good things and hype about dnd and it's gonna make me want to play it myself one day. Love your character so much!! omg! He looks so funky and fun! and the bard sibs.. 🥺 Vibes are off the charts!
Thanks for sharing and have a lovely week!!

first ask ever on this site, SUPER shy but going for it anyway 😶- have you had any experience writing about animals/pets (regardless of whether they are anthropomorphic or realistic) and how they function in a believable way?
Hey anon! Im so honored to get your first ask!!
Pets can be a hilarious way to move your plot forward, or just an emotional resting point for your other characters. Here are a few things I like to keep in mind while writing pets, especially dogs and cats, (but this can go for birds and lizards too!)
1. They have personalities and agency.
Just throw a couple personality traits their way, like loves fetch, or has a favorite type of music. you could even give them a favorite color, or make them a picky eater. Pets are weird. They’re human in a lot of ways, but they want what they want.
2. One track mind
Usually food/treats. Sometimes play or cuddles. Most of their actions are going to be about these. Food is a fun one for misbehaving
3. How do your owners interact with them?
Are your characters good pet owners? How patient are they? Do they try to teach tricks or just let the animal be? A lenient owner creates a very different dog than a strict owner. I have animals I swear can understand English, and animals who I communicate with on their terms.
4. Give them a nickname! ( or ten)
Lovie, baby, Mr. Snuggles McWoofenstien, get funky with it! Just make sure you have one name you really call them so the readers don’t get confused.
Hope this helps, I love giving my characters pets XD

This post was supposed to be a rant about ESC fans asking for countries to only sing in their native language, instead I'm turning it into a music recommendation post since I feel like these requests comes from a place of "I want to listen to music that's different from usual, and not the usual pop radio songs".
As someone whose music taste can be summed up as "if it's weird, I'm in" have some music that you definitely don't listen to on the radio:
Albums:
The Rabbit that hunts tigers -Yin Yin (This would the perfect soundtrack for a futuristic western movie where the main character is also a samurai imo)
Kontinuum- Klaus Schulze (cool background music, mysterious sci-fi but not in a soul crushing or scary way)
Flight of the Ancients- The Shaolin Afronauts (the best intro to an album I've ever heard and funky jazzy vibes. Cool trumpets)
Semillero- Dengue Dengue Dengue (idk how to describe this but mh. Would use it as a soundtrack for Heart of Darkness by Conrad)
The Gereg -The Hu (Mongolian Rock-Metal, worth checking them out)
The Gods We can Touch- AURORA (this is way less obscure than other suggestions but I swear to god AURORA sounds like an angel to me but the vibes are those of a biblically accurate one)
Songs:
Hocus Pocus- Focus (prog rock jodel?!? Spotify suggested this to me and I'm in love with this)
Acid Rain- Liquid Tension Experiment (found this by searching jazz metal. Instrumental. Very good)
Trumpet Sketches - Janko Nilovic (trumpet makes brain go brrrr)
Artists:
NanowaR of Steel (Italian comedy metal band. Sings both in English and Italian, if you ask me they go for the too-good-to-be-just-a-joke comedy)
Dr. Steel (Dark with dieselpunk vibes. Every song is unique yet the vibe is so familiar, definitely villainy. Comes with lore)
Paul Shapera (a compilation of rock operas that take place in the same universe, there's plot. Lots of it. I can't recommend a single one because the cool part is seeing the story evolve)
Tales under the Oak (dungeon synth music, very calming and frog themed)
Specific playlists I have too much fun making:
POV: you just died but luckily there's a party on the other side
This is about craving your lover's insides (both playlists are currently in progress and will be updated whenever I feel like it)
All links lead to spotify, except for kontinuum which I could find only on YouTube. Also please note that the playlists include less obscure songs so maybe that's a good place from where you can start? Idk. Italic means that it's only instrumental, I feel like Hocus Pocus should be in the group too but jodel counts as singing.

To Be Alive (FNAF SB fanfic) C1 - Birthday Bash
In summary:
At long last, the thrilling continuation of 'To Be Human'! There are more shenanigans for Star and co to get up to, and new horrors to be subjected to! Not to mention, Eclipse is still at large and up to no good... As 'To Be Human' is a self contained stand-alone story, one could very well choose to leave the adventure as is! Considering there are some heavier themes in this one (biggest thing here being death, specifically) that's exactly what I would recommend you do if you like everything very much the way it ended in 'To Be Human'. This story is an exploration of a few ideas I wanted to work with left over from the first story, and a way to tie up some very minor loose ends, as well as a return to some characters and a world I had a lot of fun with.
Things To Know:
Reader insert! Y/N is not used and gender is not specified, though the reader does have a blorbo-appointed name (Star)
Non-specified relationships between reader and Sun & Moon, this can be read as pals, family, partners, whatever you like, totally up to your interpretation
Sun & Moon are separate bots and referred to with gender neutral pronouns
The reader and other characters are often in mortal peril! This world is full of Funky Creatures (other than you) and some of them attack and hurt several characters, including the reader character
Some blood and minor gore
Occasional swearing
Death
(as always, let me know if I should add anything!)

Chapter 1 | Chapter 2
C1 - Birthday Bash
It was a lovely day, as far as days go. They didn't go too far, at least for you. In your mind you knew the days were meant to be longer. There were also supposed to be seasons, but in your many days living here, the climate had stayed consistent. No winters to hibernate from, no spring time to usher in new growth after the cold. Some nights were colder than others, and Sun and Moon told you different parts of the planet were much different than others, rainforests and deserts and mountains and plains. You wanted to travel and see these places, maybe find more ruins and artifacts along the way, but travel between communities was dangerous, with the creatures you all shared the world with these days. And so the only traveling you really did was into town.
The long half-day walk between the shelter and the outer edge of town was more or less second nature to you at this point. Moon liked to remind you that the forest was still dangerous, and you shouldn't let the familiar become comfortable. You would argue that the comfort of being in your element, familiar with your surroundings, made you much better at keeping an eye out for danger and irregularities. Sun, meanwhile, was keeping an actual eye out while you and Moon bickered.
Sunshine warmed your skin between gaps in a pale green canopy. Dark purple dirt was loose and soft beneath your shoes, though still slightly soggy from last night's rain. You kicked a rock and smiled gratefully down at your shoes- you'd found them on your latest expedition down into the catacombs. They were definitely too big for your feet, but after stuffing some leaves in there they were just fine.
The three of you made it to the city in great time. Patchwork buildings came into sight as you stepped past the tree line. It was always fun to try and spot subtle changes and differences in the buildings, as bots repaired old structures and developed new ones.
You pulled up your hood and pocketed your hands as you reached the street, worn and cracked and packed full of weeds. The edge of town here was never busy, especially since the race track was off on the opposite side of the city, but you felt better with the hood anyways.
You started to walk ahead as the three of you made your way down familiar alleyways and along back walls.
"Don't go running off," Moon warned.
You stuck your tongue out at Moon. You debated running off briefly just to annoy them, but decided against it. You were starting to get another headache, and running around getting into trouble certainly wouldn't help that. You wanted to get to the repair shop anyways. Everyone there was always happy to see you. Bonnie and Freddy were always nice to you, and sometimes even let you help out around the shop with Chica.
Finally, the three of you made it to the repair shop. You knocked on the door as Moon and Sun caught up with you. Monty opened the door, and the three of you filed inside, familiar dim neon lights washing over you.
     "Star!!"
You grinned wide as Bonnie and Freddy greeted you fondly. They were both behind the counter, where Foxy had laid out their latest haul. Chica and Roxy were hanging out here in the front room as well, having been in the middle of their own conversation when you'd walked in.
"There's my little buddy!" Monty grinned and poked you after shutting the door behind you.
     You poked him back. "Hi!"
"How are the three of you? Was the walk into town alright?" Freddy asked.
"It was pleasantly uneventful," Moon replied. They were avoiding looking at Bonnie, who was avoiding them right back. It seemed the two of them had come to some sort of tentative 'you don't talk to me and I don’t talk to you and we'll just be polite in shared company' agreement.
"That's good to hear. There's been a few reports of wild animal attacks lately around this side of town, so be sure to stay safe. No wandering off alone or anything like that." Bonnie looked pointedly at you.
"Anyways." You pointedly did not meet Bonnie's gaze. "How are you all?"
"Things have been much the same since your last visit. All is still well! Roxy remains our top client, of course," Freddy said.
"This place remains to be the best in town." Roxy shrugged.
Bonnie folded his arms over the counter. "Even so, we're pretty far out of the way for you here. We sure do appreciate you coming by to see us, especially for just a check up."
"Yeah, well, I need to make sure I'm in good condition for my next race. You're all coming to watch me, right?" Roxy asked. She looked at Chica, despite directing the question towards everyone.
"Of course we will! You're our favorite racer, after all," Chica said with a wink. She turned her attention to you and Sun and Moon as Roxy's tail started to wag. "You three are just in time, we just finished up here for the day! You could come watch the race with us if you want!"
You'd only seen the last half of one race before, though you could remember it clearly and fondly. You'd had an absolute blast. "Yes yes yes yes yes!"
Sun smiled at you. "We'd love to, thank you!"
"So long as we stay out of sight," Moon said.
"On that note, still no word on Eclipse, I'm afraid," Foxy chimed in. "I've been keepin' an ear out for any news. Haven't heard a thing, but that doesn't mean they've left town just yet."
"Right. I still think it's safer to assume they're still looking for us." Moon sighed. "Thank you, Foxy."
"Not a problem, matey." Foxy gave Moon a salute with their hook.
"Forget about that fool. If Eclipse ever shows their stupid face around these parts again I'll take care of em." Monty threw a fist into his palm, the metal making a loud 'TONK' sound.
You gave Monty's arm an appreciative pat. You knew that if you ever saw Eclipse again, you'd be the one 'taking care' of them. There was no way you'd let them hurt Sun and Moon, or any of your friends for that matter.
"In other news," Sun started, setting a hand on your shoulder, "since its been roughly a year since Star's activation, that means its their birthday!"
"Birthday?? What's that?" Monty looked at you curiously.
"It's a human thing! Everyone gets a birthday. It's a celebration, once a year, every year, to celebrate the day you were born, and your continued life," you explained to everyone. "I'm not sure exactly how long its actually been, and I also wasn't exactly born, but being created in a lab is close enough."
"Aw, what a fun idea!!" Bonnie smiled. "I'm happy to celebrate our good friend Star coming into our lives."
"I agree!" Freddy laid his arm over Bonnie's shoulders. "You're a bright spot in all our lives, super-star." He smiled kindly at you.
"Thank you," you said quietly, unsure what to do with the kind words but enjoying them immensely none the less.
"How do humans usually celebrate birthdays?? Is there anything special we can do for ya?" Foxy asked.
"You usually just get all your friends together and have a good time, so we're already covered!" you said. "There's also supposed to be gifts and decorations and a cake, but its not strictly necessary."
"Oh! Well I don't know about decorations or cake, but…" Foxy pulled off their bag and rooted around inside for a moment.
You eyed them curiously and took a slow step closer.
"I found something lately in those old ruins south of here… reminded me a lot of you! So I thought I'd give it to ya next time I saw ya." Foxy finally pulled out a strange sort of device. It looked to be made of wood at first glance, but upon closer inspection it was definitely far too shiny to be real wood. It only took a moment for your brain to recognize the object, another strange factual 'memory' clicking into place.
     Ukulele.
"It seems kind of strange, small and unassuming at first, but…" Foxy plucked a few strings. Three light little notes struck you right through the heart. "It's really quite wonderful, once you get to understanding it a bit better!"
"Ah??" You stared wide eyed at the instrument for a moment. You looked up at Foxy. Then back down. "Thank you! So much!!"
Foxy held the instrument out to you, beckoning for you to take it. You tentatively grabbed it and turned it over a few times, studying it. Your brain was pretty quick these days to feed you information on human stuff, though sometimes it still took you a while. The information was like old memories, sometimes a little too faded to be of much use, more dream-like than anything. They weren't even really memories, just really good copies of memories and stored thoughts and facts. Sometimes things felt like déjà vu, like you'd experienced something before, even though you definitely hadn't. (Déjà vu being another little 'memory' you'd acquired a while ago upon experiencing the weird sensation for the first time. You'd asked Sun and Moon about it, but gathered that robots didn't seem to experience the same thing.) You pieced together enough to figure out how to hold the instrument, and how the little pegs the wires were attached to worked. Usually, you could intuit the rest of anything you couldn't 'remember' fully.
You brushed a thumb over the strings, making all four strings sing at once. The notes were a little unorganized -out of tune- but the noise they made was downright magical. It was the feeling of something soft under your hand, but sound. It felt like you'd found something you didn't even know was missing. Some crucial part of you that you'd neglected and was now alive, woken by the sound of mismatched chords.
"Music," you murmured. "Oh. This is wonderful."
"I'm glad you like it!" Foxy grinned.
You hugged Foxy, who laughed lightly and pat your back.
“I’m not the only one who’s got a little something for ya, either!” Foxy looked at Monty.
Monty stiffened and shuffled his feet. “Oh, uh. No, actually, I don’t know…”
"You have something for me too??" You poked Monty excitedly.
Monty looked away, clearly embarrassed. "It's not as good as Foxy's thing…"
"I wouldn't rank gifts. I'm just happy to have gotten gifts in the first place. I'm sure whatever it is I'm going to love it!" you assured.
Monty hesitated. He glanced down at you, then sighed. "Well… alright. Here." He popped open a compartment on his arm and pulled out a small assortment of pens, as well as a funny little book.
Upon inspection, the pens were still full of ink, each a different color. And the book was full of blank paper, pages and pages of it, edges rough and torn and bound with clumsy hands but still threaded together securely. The pages were blank, except for the very first, where a very crude and simplistic doodle of two figures holding hands had been drawn with the words 'best friends' scrawled above them. One of the figures was green and twice as big as the other, who appeared to be smiling.
"From what I know about humans, you guys like to draw and color… Or at least, the ones in the catacombs did. So I thought… maybe you’d like to be able to draw. So I went out with Foxy and put this together," Monty explained.
You stared down at the notebook and pens, holding them carefully in your hands. You thought about the markings on the walls down in the catacombs, and you thought about all the things you could do and create with this. Just having somewhere to write down your thoughts was a wonder, you were constantly jealous of Sun and Moon and their inherent note databank stored right in their heads.
You threw your arms around Monty in a big hug. "This is amazing. Thank you, Monty."
Monty relaxed significantly as you hugged him. He pat your back. "You're welcome. Glad you like it."
"I love it!!" you assured. "This is awesome! I should have had a birthday ages ago."
Just then, Bonnie started beeping. "Oh! Sorry to interrupt," Bonnie said, quickly moving to sheepishly cover his ears with his hands. "I'm getting a transmission. Sounds like a general news broadcast."
The beeping sound was sort of grating and definitely not helping your growing headache any. Even so, you were curious to hear what was on the news. Usually Bonnie didn't beep like that unless it was important.
"Oh! It might be more updates from the scientist working on renewable energy," Freddy guessed, patting Bonnie's arm excitedly.
This had everyone's attention. Bonnie straightened his ears back up as everyone gathered around the counter. His ears adjusted slightly, positioning the concave dishes inside just so. A moment of static punched through his speaker, and quickly faded into clear words.
"Thank you for taking the time to interview with us today, I know you must be very busy," a high pitched voice said.
"Thank you for having me," a quieter voice replied.
"I wont take up too much of your time here so lets just get right into it," the higher pitched voice began. "We know you've been working on figuring out how to reconstruct renewable energy from human artifacts, machines that were once solar panels and wind turbines, to my understanding. My first question for you is, what kind of impact do you think your work will have on our society?"
"Oh, yes, good question. Well, I, like many others, am of the opinion that a society that ties its currency to a vital need is aught to be rife with corruption. Power generating bots have been withholding batteries from those in need solely for the hopes of gaining riches and services in return, with no care at all for the bots suffering from these actions. Since we all depend on energy to function, to live, that puts these bots in a position of incredible power over everyone else. Over time these issues have gotten worse as certain bots accumulate more power, abuse their status, and continue to harm the rest of us."
"You're a power producing bot yourself, are you not?" asked the high pitched voice.
"I am indeed. Which is why I've been afforded the privilege of being able to work in my field as I have. The work that I and other scientists do isn't cheap, the research and development alone is costly as it is, but also taking into account things like acquiring building materials, hiring bots to help you travel to research sites, even hiring other more specialized scientists to help develop tech, there's a lot of things that add up. Beyond batteries, having connections is a whole other necessity to the field. But I'm getting off track here. To answer your first question, the reason I got into society and corruption is that I believe my work could very well render these corrupt power generating bots obsolete. With the work I'm doing, coupled with the work already done by other scientists expanding battery capacity and efficiency, we could power entire cities of bots with an extremely reasonable amount of resources. We could have battery chargers lining the streets, free to use, powered by reconstructed renewable energy machines and, if they want, power generating bots as well. We're also looking into developing unobtrusive body mods, so bots anywhere could charge their own batteries on the go with no effort, so long as they're in the sunlight or someplace windy."
"Now wouldn't that be something? How much charge would you charge for such a mod?"
The quiet scientist was quick to reply. "These modifications wouldn't cost anything, of course. The goal we're working towards here, ultimately, is the betterment of society. Any scientist worth their title would agree, we do what we do in the name of all of us. We work towards self betterment, community, mutual respect, the pursuit of knowledge, all in the name of our fellow bot. With my work I'm of course hoping to contribute to the greater good here."
"I see, I see. That's all the time we have I'm afraid, we do appreciate you taking the time to talk with us, and for all of you listening in, don't forget to tune in to our regular program-"
Bonnie's ears twitched as he ended the broadcast. "Well isn't that exciting!"
You were grateful Bonnie had cut the closing rambling short, something about the one bot's high pitched voice had been really aggravating your headache.
"Yeah!! Hey, is that true? Does being a scientist really cost that much?" Chica asked.
Sun nodded. "It is. Moon and I wouldn't be able to do what we do if we weren't power generating bots."
"The thing about having connections was true as well. That's why we needed Eclipse as an investor. They provided connections and materials we didn't have the first clue how to get access to on our own," Moon said.
"That adds up. Of course you'd need networking help," Monty said with a teasing smile.
     Moon shot him a glare.
"Can you imagine, getting a charge from the wind or the sun? My battery would fill up all on its own just while I'm racing!" Roxy said.
"Aye, imagine all the space I'd have in my pack for artifacts if I didn't have to lug around spare batteries with me on trips," Foxy mused.
"The new tech sure sounds exciting! It'd help out so many bots. No one would have to worry about running out of batteries anymore," Sun said.
"It'd take bots like Eclipse down a peg as well," Moon added.
"Good. Maybe we wouldn't even have to worry about them anymore," you said hopefully. You rubbed at your brow, trying to soothe your headache.
"How are you feeling, Star?" Freddy asked, noticing the motion.
"Oh, I'm alright, just a headache." You waved.
"Another one? You've been having those headaches for quite a while now," Bonnie noted, sounding concerned.
You noticed both Sun and Moon growing uncomfortably still beside you. Bonnie was right. Not only that, but the headaches had been getting worse, too.
You smiled and waved again, though your smile felt a little strained. "Oh yeah, I'm fine. I'm just dying."

15 Questions, 15 Mutuals
Tagged by @ceph-the-ghost-writer! Trying to get back to being more active here. One day I will write a chapter of one of my stories, I swear.
Let's start!
1. Are you named after anyone? Ostensibly not! My parents had a Talk TM before I was born and they both decided that I should not be named after anyone, to make my life my own etc. They found a name that hadn't appeared on either side of my family till that day. And then my aunt named her child the same name 🙃
2. When was the last time you cried? Sad Moment TM - it was my grandma's funeral last year (the exact anniversary is due in a couple of days), and before that, my other grandma's funeral a couple of years back. I'm not a big crier, though I sometimes wish I were. Lets feelings out.
3. Do you have kids? No, but I'm cool with having them one day, with the right person to raise them with. Love the fact that those funky creatures turn into actual taxpayers with careers one day.
4. Do you use sarcasm a lot? not really. In text - perhaps. With people I know well - yes. Generally no, I'm not that kind of a joker. In fact, I am a little dull IRL.
5. What’s the first thing you notice about people? How they react to other people, I think. Their relations with coworkers, how they talk to customers, people above and below them in the company hierarchy etc. I love analyzing that too. I also adore trying to figure out where they're from based on their vocab/accent.
6. What’s your eye color? Greyish blue. The dullest colour there is, though one person (very dear to me) called it "like winter sky on a frosty morning". Not cool enough to be "steel eyes", not blue enough to be compared to aquatic formations. There's no such thing as ugly eye colour though, and mine isn't either.
7. Scary movies or happy endings? Def both. Scary with a happy ending. I'm not a fan of jump scares but I think characters have to fight (and sometimes suffer) for their happy ending sometimes.
8. Any special talents? Hah. what does "special" mean? I'm stubborn in all the wrong ways and it makes me end up in some odd situations. I am rarely lost and read maps very well, and if you give me a simple task that needs to be repeated 1000 times, I'll happily do it without getting bored. I will just imagine my blorbos suffering during that time, so any negative moodlets cannot affect me.
9. Where were you born? Poland! In a small town I've only ever been to twice in my life, including my birth! The local hospital used to have a wonderful maternity ward and all, so my parents went there every time they had a baby on the way.
10. What are your hobbies? I write and I read, I find out weird stuff on the internet. I like crafts like stitching and knitting, I make my own beer, cider and fruit liquers, and work in the garden a lot! Oh, and I love languages an awful lot.
11. Have you any pets? I have two cats that live with my parents now - one of them is an idiot and also quarter European wildcat - he has 2 braincells only. The other one is his domestic cat momma, a black demoness that loves staying in the shadows and attacking you when you step on her (she doesn't have a non-black hair on her body so you can imagine she is stepped on quite often).
12. What sports do you play/have played? Used to be into handball in high school. Right now I mostly swim, usually when I have to think about stuff. I can't listen to my music in the swimming pool so I'm forced to listen to y thoughts. Other than that, I juggle! And it's fun and satisfying and you can make your own juggling balls with balloons and sand/rice!
13. How tall are you? 164 cm. Not great, not terrible. I get +2 in sneaking though, and exploring basements, mines and medieval castles is generally safe for me, at least when it comes to bumping your head on low door frames.
14. Favorite subject in school? Foreign languages and biology. I also enjoyed maths a lot, but I had good teachers all the way. In uni - history of Greece, pharmaceutical botany, infectious diseases and ethics.
15. Dream job? Coming up with new blorbos to torment and put in Situations TM and talking about them. Since I have no discipline to be a full-time writer, my current job is a very nice second-best option.
Tagging @whumpsday @kim-poce @whump-cravings @andordean @hold-him-down @whumpy-writings! feel free to ignore any questions that feel too private for you, and swap them with a fun fact about one of your OC!

Note
hey!
liked the top 3 list, wondered if you wanted to share from any of these?
31
36
46
71
<3
Hiya! Thank you so much for the asks dude!!! You chose some really fun ones to ramble about <33
Link to the asks
31: Top 3 things to draw/doodle
Oooooh, I doodle a lot, but I fall back on a few things
My own characters, especially the main characters from my novel (check them out at @the-supernova-sapphics )
Werewolves! I like to mess around with ears and face shapes and fur to make them match their human form, it’s very fun. And I just have a very intense werewolf special interest
As much as I talk about HATING drawing hands, they are okay sometimes. I doodle hands a lot to try to get a feel for them and it’s fun to try different gestures
36: Top 3 books from your childhood
I am a horse girl. I grew up on Black Beauty by Anna Sewell. I had a series of classic books condensed for children, and then I read the actual book at least a dozen times growing up
In the same vein, I also had a condensed kid’s version of Call of the Wild by Jack London. Loved that one a lot <33 I have yet to read the original, but I intend to do so
Bit of a strange one, but Kalahari by Jessica Khoury was a favorite in middle school. I hadn’t read anything like it before and I haven’t really since. Interesting concept, minor twist on a zombie virus almost? and I loved it
46: Top 3 fan fictions you’ve read
OH BOY
Okay so my favorite fanfic is probably Bloodletting by @agentgenevra . I have talked about it a LOT over here and I will sing it’s praises forever. Let me do it yet again. First of all, vampire Nancy. Vampire Robin. That is enough to get you hooked. But! This fic has one of the BEST AU plot lines I have ever read. The way each character and their individual motivations and personalities connect into this big web of a plot is FASCINATING. And! Tension! Tension! Tension! Eve is a genius and I fucking adore this fic.
Second place would most likely go to Dancing in the Moonlight by summersociety. I want this fic injected directly into my bloodstream. It’s somehow serious and unapologetically goofy at the same time. Again with tension! Monster hunter Nancy is a badass! Werewolf Robin is complicated! AROO BROKE MY HEART. Martha is also a queen.
Finally, I think I’m going to have to go with Raise Dead by @eskawrites . Go in with the warning that this is the only fic that LEGITIMATELY, not as an exaggeration, made me cry. The feelings are very raw and very intense, this fic will break you heart and then mend it. Chapter 3 especially ruined me. Angst galore dude. And very poetic writing, I love it.
71: Top 3 songs of this month
Only three? Damn I gotta really narrow down the favorites list
Everywhere, Everything by Noah Kahan is one of the best romantic songs I’ve ever heard, it’s kind of giving Hozier imagery but a little more upbeat and also this man’s voice does things to me
Late Bloomer by Semler, I’m writing a fic based on this one and it’s just very soft and good and I love the lyricism, plus the guitar!!!
Real genre skip here, but I swear Punk Tactics by Joey Valence and Brae is laced with something, that song is addictive and my funky neurodivergent brain loves it
Honorable mentions are Everlong by Foo Fighters, The View Between Villages by Noah Kahan, and Maple Syrup by The Backseat Lovers

My media this week (2-8 Oct 2022)
Tumblr media
📚 STUFF I READ 📚
🥰👂Killers Of A Certain Age (Deanna Raybourn, author; Jane Oppenheimer/Christina Delaine, narrator) - like RED but if everyone was Helen Mirren - no earth-shattering plot surprises or twists, just a solid and extremely entertaining entry in the genre - i also really liked the dual-narrator structure for the present day v flashbacks
😍 The Long Road Begins at Home (Infinite Coffee & Protection Detail #3) (owlet) - primarily bucky's recovery, which of course isn't linear - i swear this series gets better with every reread -
🙂👂The Moving Finger (Miss Marple #3) (Agatha Christie, author; Richard E. Grant, narrator) - REG has a great voice but the over-the-top campy voice he decided to go with for the queer-coded character was just…ugh. Luckily there were only 2 scenes with that character.
🥰👂A Murder Is Announced (Miss Marple #4) (Agatha Christie, author; Emilia Fox, narrator) - I've always been fond of this story - I think I just like the really wild plots the best
🙂 Provenance (Stevieschrodinger) - 69K, stucky - modern, no powers, sugar baby/age gap AU
🥰 to be cut adrift (cydonic) - 59K, steddie, lovely friends-to-lovers, excellent max characterization
🙂👂Elephants Can Remember (Hercule Poirot #42) (Agatha Christie, author; Hugh Fraser, narrator) - some real bullshit opinions about adoption coming through here - only 1 more Poirot to go!
😊 be kind, rewind (sparkagrace, author) - 47K, '90s historical AU shrunkyclunks
🥰 The Courting Season (anarchycox) - 47K, very funny and charming Witcher fic where Geralt decides to court Jaskier properly but sort of neglects to mention that's what he's doing, although he thinks he's being perfectly obvious
💖💖 +152K of shorter fic so shout out to these I really loved 💖💖
all the shorter sequels/epilogues/vignettes to Infinite Coffee & Protection Detail: Truth, Justice, and the Cheating Cheater Way; Upgrade: Advanced Happiness Skills; A Chance To Try Bravery; A minor misunderstanding, solidarity, and reunion
Soft Shocks (stereobone) - MCU: Thorki, 14K - I'm a sucker for a fake marriage fic!
amas veritas (wearing_tearing) - Stranger Things & Practical Magic: Steddie, 3K - utterly charming & delightful little fic where Steve's unknown aunts, Jet and Franny Owens, pay him & Eddie a visit

Fic writing seems to be going well! I won’t be able to post another chapter tonight but probably next weekend if not before. This chapter is still being a little bit messy but it’s going a lot more smoothly than 11.
I’m catching myself skipping a lot of connective tissue that would probably make for a better read for other people but that I’m not as interested in because I created these versions of these characters and I’m familiar with the way they work and I just want to skip ahead to where that makes funky new things happen. This project is definitely optimized to be fun for me. That’s just what it is. Every time I think about trying to fix it and make it a better quality read I’m like “no. That’s not what it’s for. It’s for me.”
I’m saving my energy for making things good and putting in all the necessary connective tissue for the third draft of my novel. I’m sort of hoping that I finish the fic in the next couple weeks, maybe find time for another little oneshot of some kind, and then get my novel back from my editor ready for the next round of edits. Once I have the third draft, if I don’t have any bites, I will continue sending queries.
Still have the tail end of a cold but if I keep well-medicated it doesn’t bother me very much so I’m going to continue aggressively medicating myself. Benadryl stops the post-nasal drip and the post-nasal drip spirals out into all my other symptoms (gunkiness->cough->sore throat). I swear it’s exactly like allergies except it has the curve of a virus rather than being a one-time reaction or traceable to a specific place, time or other environmental factor. Weird but now that I’ve figured out how to treat it it seems fine! Benadryl doesn’t seem to make me sleepy and anyway I’m not licensed to operate heavy machinery.

pspsps ms liz, hi, I've been here multiple times (mostly about games) and I saw you have Deathloop, or at least have it installed (sorry if its weird to look at the games you have installed on your desktop, i was curious) and its currently on sale on steam and i love a good timeloop. I played Prey a bit ago (holy shit the ending threw me for a loop WOW) and enjoyed it, I have a friend who raves about Dishonored and they haven't steered me wrong with games so far, so I have good feelings about Arkane games.
I wanted to ask your opinion on Deathloop before i spend $30 on it 💀💀
um anyways, have a good day!!! please also give your kitties pets for me, they're all adorable
HI BESTIE, dw i am petting ALL of the cats and also it's definitely not weird to look at my desktop since im the one who posted pics of it, although there are some games on there i havent played yet (i tend to take the ones im finished with OFF the desktop but deathloop earned it place). rip start again and night in the woods i swear i am going to get to you soon
so yeah AS you guessed the short answer is YES IT IS WORTH IT!!! doubly so if you can get it on steam. the long answer is:
i have played basically All of the games from arkane and deathloop feels more like dishonored than prey, but that isn't a bad thing!! (if you haven't played the dishonored series and you wind up liking deathloop i'd highly recommend it.) gameplaywise everything feels really polished and fun...when i played i was letting my buddy watch me do the story, so i wound up replaying missions i'd already done in my spare time bc i just couldn't keep my hands off of it. i found ways to do levels i didn't think were possible. there's a lot of freedom in it
the abilities in deathloop imho are what make it resemble DH more than prey, but i think the abilities system is more fun than in prey because in prey when you get the alien abilities it makes the enemies more hostile and i didn't care for that. these are simplified but really fun, i always had a hard time choosing which ones to equip because they're all really good (though admittedly i never played with the one that lets you fling stuff everywhere bc i didn't care). the weapons and trinket system you use for your upgrades comes with a bit of a learning curve (the tutorial section was horrifically annoyingly long) but once you learn the ropes it's a very smooth, fun, satisfying way to work. i havent tried the new update they just released for the 1yr anniversary but it looks amazing too!
the aesthetic and music and the characters are wildly funky and extremely, outrageously fun - the banter you get as you proceed through the levels is very entertaining. it feels like much more of an adventure than prey because it doesnt have that sense of isolation and the characters CUSS. the bosses are the perfect combination of challenging and scary and weird without being TOO hard (with the exception of fia, who has the dubious honor of being one of the most stressful controller-against-the-wall challenges i've ever played, taking me almost twenty tries to complete - come back after you do that one and tell me how many years you aged). i played deathloop before the update that added difficulty levels and i'm not a pro gamer by any means, so anyone should be able to complete it. it's really satisfying to go back to a level you once struggled on with better weapons and abilities and breeze right through it!
that said, there are a couple of cons - the biggest one for me was that my PC had a liiiiittle bit of trouble running it without framerate skips and it took me a long time to get those eliminated. the second biggest one is i think it needed another 6 months or so of dev time, especially in regards to the story. VERY minor story spoilers in the form of: my opinion, but!!! like i said, i haven't played the free update - apparently there's a new, secret ending - but the one we got felt a little bewildering and and anticlimactic. i kept waiting for it all to mean something and it kind of...only meant a little, really?? there's one major twist but instead of making me go "oh COOL" it made me go "oh bad :/" and it was definitely kind of a blueballed feeling bc the rest of the game had my expectations SO astronomically high. to finally finishing the thing was a bit of a letdown
THAT SAID, in spite of its flaws it's one of the most fun times i've ever had playing a first person shooter-ish game. i just wish there was more to do. even replaying some of the levels in my downtime i still only racked up slightly less than 50 hours. but i'm sure on replays/if i were to 100% things/if i tried multiplayer (i havent so far bc crossplatform play costs $$$ and i heard it was a bit lacking anyways) i could get more, which i might go back and try someday, because it's SO FUN. trust me if they gave me 200 hours of content in that game i would play all 200 of them
anyway, can't rec it highly enough, the steam price has apparently dropped to like $24 bucks so you will NEVER find it any cheaper. if you truly do hate it you can return it if you've played less than 4 hours so WHY NOT give it a try. i really hope you enjoy it cuz i sure did!!!

Black Belt Jones (dir. Robert Clouse)
-Jere Pilapil- 8.5/10 I swear to God, Les Vampires was listed as expiring on the Criterion Channel at the start of the month. Even if it was delisted from that section eventually, I watched the whole thing and squandered precious time I could have spent watching some of the other movies that actually were on their way out. Thus, I I had a little bit of time before midnight on June 30 and picked, somewhat at random, Black Belt Jones. I’m glad it was a good choice. It wasn’t totally a random choice, though: it’s a movie starring Jim Kelly and directed by Robert Clouse, their follow-up to Enter the Dragon, where Kelly was a memorable supporting player. Black Belt Jones lacks the scale, ambition, or philosophical musing of the previous movie, but it does have Jim Kelly doing martial arts and a funky soundtrack by Dennis Coffey, and sometimes the basics are more than enough. The plot, so much as it exists, is that some hilariously basic mafiosos bought up all the land intended for a new civic center, except for a little patch of land, currently owned by Pop Byrd (Scatman Crothers). Byrd’s a drunk and a gambler, but his martial arts school seems to be doing OK. The mafia dudes (who are such unbelievable caricatures their dialog seems like it might be dubbed? Was it?) strong arms Malik Carter’s Pinky as the frontman of this take over attempt, since Pinky owes the mob and Pop owes Pinky. Byrd gets Jones to protects his interests, and Jones’ name isn’t the title of the movie for nothing. Carter as Pinky deserves a special shout-out here, as in this character and in Carter’s performance you can see the sees that would eventually blossom into Samuel L. Jackson’s Jules Winnfield in Pulp Fiction 21 years later. I’m sure Jules is a composite of several movie references, as is often the case in Tarantino, but look at the way Carter carries himself: he’s threatening with his eyes first, and everything he says is quotable and hilarious (“You can pull out my groin, just gimme that coin!”). It’s shocking that he doesn’t have more than extremely sporadic work following this, not even in the multitude of blaxploitation movies coming out at this time. If Carter is a revelation, then Kelly is at least a stoic anchor for some fun action. His charisma is solid, though not as potent with the spotlight on him the whole time. To its credit, this movie manages some very creative staging for its scenes to keep things exciting: a dojo fight where the lights blink in and out, a soap bubble filled fight at a malfunctioning car wash, a rescue mission aided by gymnasts, etc. Blaxploitation movies don’t always have a reputation for polish or craftsmanship, but you can’t fault them for originality. I think this is one due for a revisit as, say, a midnight movie classic. There’s a lot of charm and fun to be had here, with Kelly’s martial arts, Carter’s line readings and the various action scenes. Not to mention, Gloria Hendry kicking ass as a more sadistic contrast to Black Belt Jones. This one rarely gets mentioned as much as the more groundbreaking movies of the era like Sweet Sweetback’s Baadassssss Song, more popular movies like Shaft or camp like Blacula, but it’s a tremendously underrated action flick.

Hurricane - Randall ‘Pink’ Floyd
Tumblr media
A/N:  I’ve recently re-fallen in love with the beauty of the movie Dazed and Confused, and there’s like literally no work for it so I decided to write my own about one of my favorite characters! It’s a friends-lovers type thing sooooo.... Enjoy ;)
I exited my car and walked towards the school entrance with a little more pep in my step today. Around me, I could hear the chatter and excitement of the kids scattered across the parking lot, a few more days and school would be out. Soon, a lot of them would be seniors, including me.
As I was walking, I saw Pickford’s bright yellow car pulling in, Pickford and Michelle inside. Thank the lord! I smiled as he sped into the parking lot, walking over to the car and leaning against the window.
“Ahhhh, Pickford! Just the man I wanted to see on this fine morning!” I said dramatically, smiling at him. He rolled his eyes putting the car into park.
“Hey Michelle!” I said to her as Pickford turned the car off, looking over to me. She smiled back, laughing at Kevin’s reaction to me.
“What do ya want now (y/n)?” He said in fake annoyance.
I nudged him gently, laughing.
“Light me, I left my lighter at home.” I said, pulling a joint out of my pocket and placing it in between my lips, leaning closer so he could light the end.
“M’Lady” He laughed dramatically, producing a lighter and sparking the end.
“Thanks man, you’re the best” You said standing back up right and smiling gratefully, taking a few drags off the thing.
“Yeah yeah, you only want me for my weed and my lighters.” He fake pouted dramatically, earning another giggle from me and Michelle.
“You know you love me!” I exclaimed, reaching in the window and ruffling his hair, much to his annoyance.
“Anyways, I gotta go find some people, I’ll catch you guys later!” I called, backing away and going to find some other friends.
I took a couple drags off the joint, making my way through the school gates and saying hi to people I knew along the way. Mid laugh (at something someone had said) I felt the joint being pulled out of my mouth. I turned quickly only to see one of my very best friends, Randall Floyd, or Pink as we all call him. I smiled at the sight of my joint hanging out of his mouth, a smirk on his lips.
“And what do you think you’re doing Mister? I chuckled, crossing my arms and giving him a look.
“Well, you know what they say (y/n), sharing is caring.” He said jokingly, taking a big hit off of it.
“Heyyyy!” I exclaimed, laughing and reaching for it.
“Don’t smoke it all! I barely got a few hits in.” I pouted as he pulled it from my reach. He laughed and threw his arm around my shoulders, pulling me in and passing the joint back to me.
“Fine, I’ll give it back Mrs. Grouch” He said, earning a nudge in the side from me.
‘You’re lucky I love you” I grumbled out, looking at him. He laughed. keeping his arm around my shoulder and walking towards the doors to the school.
“So I was wonderin’ if you’re free tonight? Maybe you can drop by mine later tonight? I’ve got some new records to listen to and a sixer just begging for us to drink it.’ Pink said, as if he’d really have to coax me into coming over. I laughed at his ‘puppy dog eyes’ all the same.
“What, no plans with the leech tonight?” I joked around, referring to his ever annoying girlfriend.
“Nahh, needed a break for one night” He said dismissively, earning a laugh from me.
“Alright, It sounds like a plan! Be there at 6?” I confirmed, stopping as we heard someone call Pink’s name. He waved to them to hold on before finally removing his arm from my shoulders.
“Sounds great! Can’t wait.” He confirmed with a smile, turning towards me and stealing the joint again, taking another hit before passing it back to me.
“See you then.” I called to him as he walked backwards, shooting finger guns my way and nearly tripping on his own feet. I laughed at how dorky he really could be at times.
I took the last drag before putting the joint out and walking into the building, nearly running straight into Slater.
“Slater! My man! How’s it going?” I said to him, doing the funky little hand shake we made up a few years back.
“Good, man! Hey! I got that stuff for you.” He said smiling like a maniac, pulling a little bag out of his pocket and handing it to me.
“You are the best my dude!” I laughed out, putting the baggie into my bag.
“Anything for you! Hey man, I’ll check ya later!” He said, shooting me finger guns and walking away. I really was friends with a bunch of dorks.
I sighed, continuing my walk to first period, now all I had to do was survive the day.
Later that day
The final bell rung out, everyone including me rushing to pack their stuff up and get out. As I was walking out of the building I saw Slater, Pickford, and Michelle  hanging out in the parking lot over by Pickford’s car and decided to go say hi real quick.
“Only a few more days dudes, and then we’re seniors!’ I exclaimed as I walked up to the group. “Hey Michelle, can I bum a cig?”
She handed me one and lighter. “Thanks.”
“It’s gonna be so weird man, we’re gonna be like so....old” Slater said slowly, laughing after he realized what he said. I laughed too. I handed the lighter back to Michelle and took a drag off the stick.
“All I know is, we’ll be the top of the food chain, and i’m gonna throw a fat party to celebrate!” Pickford laughed, lighting up a joint of his own.
As I was about to reply, I felt a pair of arms wrap around my waist, lifting me up slightly before setting me back down. I let out a little shout, startled, holding my cigarette out to avoid burning whoever the culprit was.
“Floyd! I swear to god I’ll kill you!” I said knowing it could be no one else.
“Oooooo, she used your last name. You’re in trouble, man!” Slater called out, laughing as Pink placed me down again and moved to my side, throwing an arm over my shoulder, as he usually did.
“Awe, look at the two love birds who won’t admit they’re lovebirds!” Pickford said mockingly, faking a gag at the end.
“Oh shove it Pickford” Pink said dismissively, waving off the comment.
“Yeah, you wouldn’t want his toy to hear that.” I fake whispered to the group as they laughed along. I was referring to Simone and they all new it. They all new I couldn’t stand her, including Pink, and most of the group felt the same way.
“Alright alright, that’s enough of that.” Pink started, trying to keep the peace as always.
“Look! It’s my favorite group of little stoners!” A voice called to the left, Donnie joining the small gathering, a chorus of ‘hey Don’s’ and ‘what’s up man’s’ emitting from the group.
“Hey Don! How ya been? Haven’t seen you in a while.” I said as he reached the circle.
“Still waiting on your call, baby.” He said winking and flicking his tongue at me. I heard Pink scoff at this from beside me, but I just laughed. Donnie was Donnie after all.
“In your dreams man.” I replied smoothly.
“Oh you know it sweatheart! Anyways, I’m here for you Slater. Where’s my drugs?” He called over to the stoner, who was currently passing a joint to Michelle.
“Follow me, man.” He said with a guilty grin, him and Donnie walking away.
“Well, as much as I love hanging out with you nerds, I gotta get goin.” I said, moving to walk towards my car. Pink hooked his fingers into the belt loops on the side of my jeans, pulling me back towards him.
‘We still on for tonight?” He asked.
“Yes, sir!” I said feigning seriousness, fake saluting him. He laughed at this.
“Alright then. I shall see you tonight.” He smiled, releasing his hold on the belt loops and backing up slightly.
“See you then. Later, guys!” I called over my shoulder and hopping in my car, the radio coming to life at full volume as the car roared to life.
Today had been a fairly good day but who was I to lie, I was beyond exited for the night to come. I raced home and instantly started getting ready-showering and then getting dressed. I had a little more time to kill before I needed to head over to Pink’s so I took out the new goods from Slater and rolled a few more joints, placing 2 in the “Emergency” supply and packing the rest into my purse before slipping my shoes on and heading out.
Tumblr media
I eventually pulled up outside Pink’s house, only to see him and Slater talking out by Pink’s car.
“Getting the party started without me, boys?” I smirked, making my way over to the little group.
“(y/n), man! It feels like it’s been forever since I saw you man.” Slater called, laughing almost nervously. Pink looked over at me as well, shooting me his award winning smile.
“Slater, I literally saw you a few hours ago” I laughed, pulling him into a hug anyways.
“My turn!” Pink exclaimed once I’d let go of Slater, holding his arms open wide with a little smile on his face. I rolled my eyes, laughing, but walking into his arms anyways, my heart skipping a beat momentarily. I just chose to ignore that bit.
“So, what’re you doing here? Not that your company isn’t a pleasure, “ I started, looking at Slater. “but i thought it was just gonna be us tonight?” I finished, looking at Pink.
“It is, he was just dropping off some supplies” Pink answered devilishly.
“Yeah, don’t worry (y/n), I’m not here to steal your man time, man” He laughed out, beginning to step away.
“You wish Slater!” I said, blushing slightly. He just shook his head, beginning to walk away. The blush intensified even more when Pink put his arm around my waist, pulling me even closer. He was usually pretty touchy, but it seemed to be amped up even more tonight.
“Thanks again, man. I’ll see you tomorrow at the Emporium?” Pink called as Slater was walking away.
“For sure man! Have fun, but not too much fun, man!” He called back, making his way around the corner.
Pink still hadn’t let go of me so I turned, putting a hand on his chest and laughing at his dopey facial expression.
“Hmmmmm, seems like someone really did start the party without me” I laughed, pinching his cheek lightly, him swatting my hand away.
“Ok maybe I smoked a tinyyyy bit, but there’s still plenty to go around” He said smirking and hooking his fingers into the front belt loops of my pants. I looked up at him, suddenly having an overwhelming urge to lean in. I snapped myself out of it though, if any of that was going to be happening tonight I’d have to be a lot more out of it than my current state.
“Well, why are we still out here then? The weed isn’t going to smoke itself!” I chuckled, breaking away from him and making my way into his house, directly to his room.
I plopped onto his bed, leaning against the headboard as Pink followed me in, closing the door and lighting some incense to mask the smell. As soon as it was good and burning, I pulled out my freshly rolled stash, lighting it and taking a drag as Pink put one of the new records on the player.
Once it was settled, he turned towards me.
“Hey now! Don’t be greedy” He laughed at me, launching himself on top of me on the bed, opening his mouth for me to place the joint in it. I complied with his wishes, sticking it in his mouth and leaning back with a smile on my face, his body still very much on top of mine.
Eventually, he moved to a more comfortable position at my side. We listened to the records, back to back, giving our respective opinions on each of the albums, going through about 4 joints and 3 beers each. By the time the last song on the last of his new records rang out, we were fairly buzzed.
“Well, that’s all of em. Now, what to do, what to do?” Pink stated, looking over to me with an idea in his eyes.
“Have anything specific in mind?” I asked absentmindedly, more focused on the brightly colored poster on the wall.
“I have an idea, yeah” He answered vaguely. I giggled lightly at his lack of explanation.
“Are you planning on sharing that idea with me or are you just gonna keep it locked up in that brain of yours?” I questioned teasingly, leaning forward to tap his temple lightly. He swatted my hand away with a laugh.
“I’ll do better, I’ll show you!” He exclaimed, grabbing my hand and pulling me towards the window. I was curious now.
Before I could question his intentions further, he slid the window open and climbed out on to the roof, turning back and reaching his hand in the window, motioning for me to follow. I grabbed his hand and climbed out as well. He began walking towards the middle of the roof, my hand still clasped tightly in his own.
He sat down finally, pulling my arm along with him. I sat down quietly, leaning against his shoulder lightly. For a few long moments, there was nothing but silence. Pink stared up at the sky, lost in thought.
“Whatcha thinking about?” I asked quietly, poking his side gently.
“I don’t love her.” He answered immediately.
“What?” I replied, taken aback by the question.
“Simone. I don’t love her, I never did. In fact, we’ve been split for months, but she refuses to let me go. I don’t love her because..... well, because I love someone else” He laughed out almost incredulously, like he couldn’t believe what he was saying. Something about that statement sent a ping straight to my heart.
“Well then, that’s ok! I’m sure this girl likes you back. Who wouldn’t? Don’t worry yourself too-” before I could finish my sentence, his lips were on mine. They moved in sync briefly before he pulled away.
“It’s you. You are the girl I’m talking about. I think I’ve always known it’s you, I just never realized it.” He let out with no hesitation. As I processed what he was saying to me, my heart was dancing in my chest. This was not how I planned for the night to go, not that I’m complaining at all.
“I don’t think there's any question that I feel the same then?” I asked in a daze, still shocked by the events that had just transpired. Pink chuckled at this, shaking his head and wrapping an arm around me, pulling me closer.
“No, I don’t think so. Though, I think I should double check, just to make sure.” He stated, a goofy smile finding its way onto his face. At that, he leaned down once more, placing his lips on mine once again.
