Wordless Richonne Moments That Spoke Volumes (Part II)
Tumblr media
7.01
Years ago, I wrote a whole post dedicated to the nod Michonne gives Rick during the line-up because it was just such a meaningful wordless moment to me. It still is. I mean the fact that on one of their most horrific traumatizing days, with psychos pointing guns at their head, they still are able to share a short moment and she’s able to offer that comforting potential farewell is just touching. It was a quick subtle exchange that communicated how their love for each other will always find a way to have a moment no matter how dire the circumstances.
Tumblr media
7.07
I also wrote a post back then focused on those walkie talkies in Sing Me A Song because the emphasis on the walkies just felt like a clear indicator of Rick and Michonne’s connection even during a time of distance. Michonne has her walkie with her while out on her own to find a way to beat the saviors and the scene really highlights the walkie by zooming in on it. I’ve always felt that was to show that she still wants to be connected to Rick even if right now she has to try and fight in her own way. And then that becomes even clearer when they immediately cut to Rick waking up and checking his walkie. It stands out that they focus on him holding that walkie for like 12 seconds. That’s always been about Michonne to me. He wants to hear her on the other end and just feel near her in some way. Despite all the turmoil of this time, I was never worried during 7A that Richonne would be on the rocks, because in every scene they had, and even in wordless moments apart like this one, it was clear they still so eagerly wanted to be in this together.
7.10
This 7.10 moment right here truly lives in my head rent-free. Michonne taking Rick’s arm took me out when I first saw it years ago and it still gets me beaming to this day. I just love how much care and concern they always show for each other. Like Michonne taking his arm wasn’t just as a member of TF or as a co-leader but as a woman concerned for the safety of her man with these strange garbage folks. I love how the action is gentle but urgent and the way he holds her hand and just softly assures her (which I know wasn’t wordless but whatever, it’s too cute not to mention that part lol) Rick and Michonne’s couple vibes throughout this whole episode were just top tier. Like another wordless look they share when Rick tells Father Gabriel someone taught him enemies can be friends. It was sweet how reflective Rick was being in this ep about where he and Michonne were at in season 3 and how far they’ve come. (And what better way to cap that off than getting her that cat statue to replace her season 3 rainbow cat. 🥰) And can I just say, during that 7.10 scene with Father G, the way Rick looks over at Michonne and the way she smiles back at him in that scene…that’s when I knew that upcoming Richonne-centered 7.12 episode we’d been hearing about was going to be the best kind of lovefest.
Tumblr media
8.14
Ok so I know they talk in this early 8.14 scene and have such a heartfelt conversation but there is a wordless moment that opens the scene so I’m counting it and truly it’s one of my favorite actions they’ve ever had. It’s when Rick enters the room and sees Michonne emotional as she reads Carl’s letter to her and then he just silently takes her face in his hands and wipes her tears. Y’all I’ll never get over this. 😭 I adore how soft they are with each other and it’s just such a preciously intimate loving exchange.
After losing Carl, both were experiencing immense grief and Rick’s grief took form in a fixation toward destroying Negan and the Saviors which caused him to be a bit distant with Michonne, even despite her trying to reach him and be there for him. So I really appreciate this moment of him wiping her tears because it showed how, even as blinding as his rage and grief toward their situations has been, he still fights to be present with her and tend to her emotions. Her broken heart over Carl means something to him just a much as his own, and he wants to offer her some sort of solace even despite his unbearable pain. No matter what state of mind Rick is in, he’ll always try to prioritize her and his heart and mind always have space and love for Michonne. And this moment made that clear.
Tumblr media
8.15
It became crystal clear that Rick and Michonne’s relationship would truly stand the test of time after seeing them find their way back to each other post-Carl. Like not many would recover from a loss like that so soon after starting a relationship. But even as they wrestled with their grief, their love for each other remained strong. I’ve always really appreciated that in this 8.15 scene where Rick reads Carl’s letter, they chose to have Michonne and Judith included in the background. It’s just such a clear way to illustrate the beautiful family Rick still has. As he reads a letter from a passed loved one it was important to still have that beacon of light and hope with his living loved ones in the frame. And then the look R&M share as Michonne walks with their daughter and Rick gives her a teary loving nod. Such a sweet gorgeous moment. Rick is looking at her like he knows full well that she and their baby is still such motivating reason to keep going. Those girls are everything to Rick. They’re his future, and he knows it.
Tumblr media
And then Michonne’s glowing as she beams up at him. 🥹 She’s so proud of him for reading his letter and re-centering on what’s important in life. This scene is after they exchanged those I Love You’s in 8.14 and I love how even when they aren’t verbally saying the L word it is still so clearly communicated in the looks they share like these ones here.
Tumblr media
9.06
How many people can say their ship still kept them fed even after one of the characters departed the show? Like we still got such sweet Richonne moments even after Rick left. I will always appreciate the way Michonne was still so in love with her true love even years after Rick’s departure. And this moment in their room where she takes out his shirt and just cherishes it and then puts it on and hugs herself in it. Like…how am I supposed to recover seeing that? 🥺 I adore that without words it was just so loud and clear that Michonne still felt so connected to Rick. She treasured any and everything that reminded her of him be it his gun, the bullet shell in her hair, a ring, or an action figure. And so it’s the sweetest thing that even his clothes are a way for her to still feel close to him, especially a shirt he wore during some great Richonne moments.
Tumblr media
In the miniseries, I’m really looking forward to seeing how Rick kept Michonne’s presence alive within him while he was away cuz I know they’d both be sentimental over anything that makes them think of each other. I mean, we already know he had a phone with her image on it so I’m curious to see how that all comes to be. But in this wordless 9.06 moment I just will always love how it sent the undeniable message that Richonne truly doesn’t die cuz their love is still so alive.
Tumblr media
So see, even brief wordless moments can have my extra self writing hundreds of words about them. Richonne is just that great. #GiftThatKeepsOnGiving. Thanks for reading. 💜

do you have a favorite tma episode? :)
I’m so sorry this took me so long to get too, I just had a hard time trying to pick?!?
I couldn’t choose so now I’m gonna make it everyone else’s problem in this text response.
Like ok, the first that always comes to mind is MAG 65: Binary and MAG 74: Fatigue.
Binary because the thought of an Internet creepypasta being a real actual thing that exists in universe is the funniest thing imaginable.
Also how lovely the story is told! God such a good episode.
But like, there’s also Fatigue which like, keeps popping up in my mind low key only because there was a Uquize that gave you “what statement giver you are” and I got Lydia Halligan for ep 74 and it’s stayed rent free in my head so now it’s one of the few episodes that pop up in my head when someone asks.
Also that and you can feel the fact the jonny wrote this sleep deprived, bless.
I also, unfortunately, live in a constant state of fatigue so much relations to be had 😔.
BUT WAIT!!! THERES MORE???
Yes there’s more I love horror.
MAG 177: Wonderland is my absolute #1 fear and actually concern irl so I tend to actually really like and really relate to it? Like my body is in pain a good percentage of my time alive and more things keep popping up that are Concerning!™️ but going to the doctor about it gives me pause because of past experiences. I’ve also straight up broke down when I came home once because of anxiety and the fact that I Hate Being Touched And Doctor Had to Poke And Prod At Me And I Didn’t Like How I Was Spoken Too And So Much More ;-;. It’s just a good episode that Hits, me, in the face, at Full Speed!!!
Other eps I like for no other reason other then “Vibes Hard” are 24: Strange Music, 81: A Guest For Mr. Spider (huh I Wonder Why), 87: The Uncanny Valley (lmao), and 22: Colony (lmao I wonder why that one as well)
Also another I like for funny reasons is MAG 165: Revolutions because of someone on tumblr put the statement to a lowfi beat and it fucking ruled.
There are probably more that I might like more but it’s been a while since I’ve listened as I have the “can’t really pay attention or enjoy anything I like lately if I’ve already heard it before even if I really really really like said thing” disease. Which I believe comes from the depression side of my ADHD :/
(This has also started to effective my enjoyment of new things as well. :( man :( my brain sucks :(...)
So my rule of thumb is, if I remember it and it’s not the first few eps then it’s up there on my list!!! :D (because the first eps are truly sooooooooosososo good!) I also left out any that just had moments I liked after the statements as I wanted to focus on the statements and horror stories themselves! Not just for my undying admiration and love for Asexual King Jon Jarchivist J Jim’s and Martin Kartin Blackwood. Oh how I love them dearly <3
I can however tell you the ep I absolutely can not listen to again tho!!!
No matter how many time I relisten (or attempt to, stupid brain) I can never listen to MAG 6: Squirm ever again! I just can’t! My sex-repulsed ass was already second-guessing listening when I heard the episodes description for the first time. And then it got worse as I listened because EW GOD NO WHY EW. Like ew god the implications??? 😨 like I already think it’s gross but the worms make it more gross and horrifying. I already remember all the relevant information form the first time around! I don’t need another go! thank you! Have a good day!
Also side note, not anywhere near my favorite or least favorite (tho I can still relisten to it, mag 6 is the only one I can’t) but MAG 172: Strung Out scares me. Not in a “I relate to this” kind of way, I have never done a drug in my life and find it to be a waist of my time, hell I don’t even drink for the same reason. (Plus looking at my ADHD and some of my heritage, I’d be much more prone to addiction anyways.) To me it’s a waist of time and money and not something I care for as, surprise! I don’t like losing or being out of my own control! This ep scares me the same way it would probably scare Mr. GhostHunter Shane Madej.
Anyways! There’s my TMA episode thought! :D

okay so. don't get me wrong OFTS is still one of my favorite shows I think (though I might have trouble rewatching bc of Boston & Nick specifically :/ *sigh*) Like, I adore this series and it did some pretty darn cool things. It was a WILD ride and I loved it (and SandRay will live rent free in my head for the rest of my life.) But the finale was disappointing. I was decently happy for Sand and Ray but that's about it. (Glad they ended up together—my one hope really—but didn't feel that many Emotions?) Disappointed about NickBoston and where the story left both of them individually. I didn't expect them to end up together but they WAY they didn't end up together was just.... (I'll say this yet again, I LIKED WHERE THEY ENDED IN EP 11 IT WAS ACTUALLY PERFECT.) Was also left finding Top & Mew just as boring together as I did in episode 1. Which is just sad.
Best scenes imo were the psycho pool scene with Sand/Ray/Boeing, the Mew & Ray confronting Boeing scene, the truth or dare scene, and the SandRay dance scene.
You know, as the episode was progressing I had theories forming of what might happen and I'm sorta sad I was wrong. I thought maybe this episode would be about all of them teaming their messy selves up together. Friends again (at the moment anyway), but like, psycho friends who everyone else should be scared of. We saw this potential in the Ray & Mew (+ Sand) vs Boeing scene. Sooooo WHEN RAY AND MEW talked and realized that Boeing had messed with BOTH their relationships and then stepped outside and saw Boston... well, I hadn't seen the teaser and all I knew was that something happened in this ep regarding Boston & Boeing. So I though maybe Ray & Mew would reconcile with Boston by approaching him to help with revenge. Ray and Mew doing their We Are Scary and Will Orchestrate Anything powers teamed up with Boston—probably using his Charisma/Slut Powers (think 'that awesome team-up with Nick & Boston vs Atom'.) Didn't have any idea on the specifics of what their plan would be but hey Mew could think of something. Just. Imagine if they all bonded again by having Boeing as a shared enemy and all got to use their messy energy as a whole force. If they got to pull something nasty together and re-bonded over it. You could still end it with some of the couples ending up together and some not. Boston could still go to NY (and maybe throw in a scene of him doing his photography show! anything but him moping sadly and friendless and ending up alone on a curb with no hope bc of his hypocritical friends, having just had a non-satisfying goodbye with Nick--aka the only person to ever actually apologize to Boston or treat him like a person, even if he didn't always have the best thing to say) Like that's FINE. But GOSH give me a conclusion with even footing AHHHHH. Give me an ending that is sweet sweet (hi Sandray) but also just as wacky and wild as everything that proceeded it. Give me an ending that doesn't seemingly pick sides or make a whole entire relationship depressing in retrospect (even if Nick did say he was glad to know boston like okay whatever). AHHHHHHHHH

A Year Later - ep. 07 - JJ Maybank
A/N: I wanted to do an epilogue of sorts for The S’week and @d-reamingoutloud suggested looking into their lives a year after the story so that’s what I decided to do. Basically this is kind of where the reader’s relationship with them all is at.
The S’week Masterlist | Outer Banks Masterlist
✰ ✰ ✰ ✰
John B. Routledge -
John B’s Hand slipped out of yours, both of you forming a fist to side bump in a variation of the secret pogue handshake that you’d somehow come to adopt as your own in the last year. You were standing on the edge of the jetty, cooler in your other hand.
“You ready to go?” John B asked, taking the cooler from you and setting it down below the seat before he held his hand out for you to climb aboard. It was early enough in the morning that it was still dark outside but the light on the boat cast a glow across the marsh, a rather calming effect on you as you prepared to spend the morning fishing with John B. An odd sort of tradition that had come about last year and had just stuck. A time and place that neither of you had to worry about other obligations or other people’s opinions of your friendship.
“Yeah. New boat?” You asked, taking a look at the boat as you stepped on. John B stepped back to give you some room, nodding his head.
“Got it last month, finally saved enough between rent and bills.” He replied, “being an adult sucks.”
“I hardly think 19 qualifies as being an adult.” You laughed, taking a seat as he pulled away from the jetty. It was still cold out for now, one of JJ’s hoodies keeping you warm as the light rush of air chilled your bare legs.
“It does when I’ve got bills to fucking pay.” John B replied.
“Touché.” You glanced back at him, “I thought you were doing the Winnebago thing with Kie? Surfing all the coasts or something?”
Kiara was leaving at the end of the week to spend the summer in a Winnebago with a few friends from college. The last you had heard about the trip John B was tagging along too, eager, apparently, to get out of the obx. But here he was, spending his money on a new boat and seemingly unprepared to leave the island.
“Nah, I thought about it but...I don’t know. She’s talking about it being a fresh start and how I’m in a slump but I know if I go with her-”
You nodded, “not exactly a fresh start if you’re just tagging along with Kie wherever she goes.”
You loved Kiara but you knew that she had a constant want to fix her friends problems, always the mom of the group in a way it killed her that things had never gone back to normal after the s’week debacle. The Week that Must Not Be Named, according to JJ.
“Yeah, and listening to her try and fix things between everyone. I love her to death but the ‘we should put aside our differences’ spiel has yet to work on any of us.” John B replied, “except maybe you and Sarah.”
“Me and Sarah are in it for life, she’s my like platonic soulmate best friend. I’d have to cut a part of myself out to not be friends with her anymore.” You admitted. Sarah could stab you in the back, and figuratively she had, and you would still be rooting for her in the end. You loved JJ and you cared about John B but Sarah was your ride or die.
“That’s really touching.”
“Oh shut up,” You laughed, tossing a flip-flop at him. “I love you too John B.”
“Yeah, yeah. Anyway, I was gonna say, I’ll take you up on your offer...if it still stands?”
You’d came home almost every weekend because of your schedule but it was during spring break, on a day when JJ had work and you had gone over to the Chateau to hang out with John B, that you had mentioned your family’s vacation home in Hawaii. You usually went around Christmas and had that year, taking JJ with you for his first plane ride ever (which had been hilarious in itself). John B had mentioned wanting to get away from the obx and you suggested your family’s vacation home, free to him if he wanted to move out there for a little while.
“Yeah of course, whatever you need.”
“A serious change of scenery.” John B replied. The Outer Banks had always been his home but it was feeling more and more like a prison the longer he stayed there. Especially when he felt like he was running into JJ everywhere he went.
“I’m guessing, if you’re aversion to Kie is that strong, you and JJ still aren’t talking?” You asked. It was an unspoken agreement between you and JJ that you never talked about his former best friend.
“I got nothing to say to him.” He shrugged, “I’ve tried, I swear...it’s just, every time I see him I think about it and I feel like I wanna drown him in the ocean.”
“I guess you won’t be coming to the boneyard on Friday then?”
“Nah. I’ve got you and Kie and I don’t really wanna see anyone else. I’ve tried hanging out with other people we just don’t vibe ya know? I miss feeling like I had that group...I’m not gonna have that feeling here anymore.”
“Hey I get that. When Rafe and I broke up I lost a lot of friends I thought I had.” You replied, “people can’t help feeling loyal to certain people.”
“Maybe.” John B shrugged; it didn’t matter. Or he was trying to accept that he couldn’t change it. “But you’re here on the boat with me and we get along fine. You don’t try and bullshit me about JJ or tell me we should all be best friends again.”
“It’s not my place. Besides, JJ and I have come to the agreement that we don’t talk about it.” You replied. It kept you both happy.
“Well it’s shit when you and Kie are in school cause then it’s just me and JJ on the cut.” John B admitted. He hadn’t complained too much about it during the school year but you knew that was just for your benefit. “What about you? I know you guys are cool but how is rooming with Sarah?”
“It’s good, feels like old times again ya know...JJ doesn’t come around, but...it what it is.” You shrugged.
✰ ✰
Sarah Cameron -
“I’m going to fail all my classes.” Sarah groaned, resting her chin on her forearms. She’d pushed her books away from her, forcing you to pick up your coffee when her textbooks threatened to knock it over.
Finals were in a week and both of you had been studying like crazy, meeting up in the dorm or in the library for cram sessions between classes. Sarah was already planning on going to Nassau the first week of summer vacation with Topper and some college friends. Even if nobody actually knew what happened last summer it still felt different being in the Outer Banks now.
“You are not, you’re literally one of the smartest people I know.” You replied, attempting to be encouraging as you texted Kiara about Pope’s birthday party coming up. Your books mirrored Sarah’s but you were taking a supposed break from studying for the five minutes your timer allotted.
“But not the smartest?” She asked, lifting her head and narrowing her eyes at you. She grabbed her own cup of coffee off the table and took a sip as she looked over the books again. Nothing had changed.
“I mean, I know Topper so...”
“Oh my god, shut up, I just fucking spit out my coffee.” Sarah laughed, covering her mouth with her hand and reached for a napkin. “For real though, why couldn’t my dad have pulled a Lori Laughlin and like, paid off my college?”
You slipped your phone back on the table face down, clicking the side when it rang and pulling one of your books closer to distract you from it. “Because then he would’ve gotten caught and you would’ve been kicked out and probably blacklisted and everyone would be like ‘that girl is so dumb her dad paid off the college to pass her.’ And you’d have to move in with me and work retail.”
“Stop it. What a fucking nightmare.”
“The living with me or the working retail?” You asked, laughing at the annoyed face she made.
“I’m gonna hire a new best friend who’s just like ‘yeah Sarah you’re so smart’, ‘your dad should pay for you to ace tests, you don’t need college’ and whatever other shit I pay them for.” She replied.
“You could pay me, I’ll be your yes man.” You offered, silencing your phone when it rang again.
“Who’s calling you?” Sarah asked, her attention drawn away from studying and Lori Laughlin to the phone that rang for a third time.
“What?” You looked up, “no one.” You’d told JJ that you would call him when you were finished studying and that you were busy but that didn’t stop the incessant calling once he decided he felt like talking to you. Normally you wouldn’t care but you did your best to separate JJ from your life at school because Sarah was here and you didn’t feel like it was fair to flaunt that in front of her, even if it was accidental.
“Seriously, I can see you clicking off your phone every couple minutes.” She replied, “Is it JJ?”
“Uh-” You bit your lip as you looked over at the offending electronic. It was no use pretending like he wasn’t the person on the other end of the call. You’d gone two semesters and a spring break without incident, surely, she wouldn’t care if you took one phone call. But you still felt guilty, you weren’t sure if that would ever go away. “It’s no big deal, I can talk to him later.”
“I’m fine!” Sarah insisted, “seriously I’ve got like a real date on Friday.”
“I just wanna call him back real quick.” You replied, “I think it’s about going home for the weekend.”
“For Pope’s birthday?”
“Yeah.” You’d been staying on campus with finals so close but it you knew Pope was going to be home for the weekend for his birthday and Kiara would be there and you didn’t want to miss spending time with them. Especially since you wouldn’t see them again until hell week was over and you were moving out of your dorm.
“Kie mentioned it to me last week.” Sarah explained, “Are you guys doing anything special?”
“As far as I know it’s just the four of us.” You replied. John B hadn’t been hanging around either of his former friends. He still saw Kiara when she was home and you whenever you came home for the weekend, but that was sans JJ or Pope. If either of them was around than John B kept his distance.
“Go, go. Seriously, I’m fine.”
You pushed your chair back as your phone rang one more time, finally answering it. “Okay. I’ll be right back.”
✰ ✰
JJ Maybank -
“I’ve been thinking,” JJ started to say, sitting on a chair in The Wreck with you on his lap. Before he could continue you raised an eyebrow at him, running your fingers through his hair to get him to look up at you.
“That’s never good.”
JJ stuck his tongue out but kept talking, undeterred by your comment, “...you should drop out.” He announced.
You laughed, knowing that JJ wasn’t serious at all. He’d been making the same suggestion to you since September. “No way in hell! Why would I do that?”
“So I don’t have to go weeks without seeing you.” He shrugged, fingers slipping beneath your shirt as he laid a kiss against your neck.
“A more tempting offer than I expected...what’ll we do on all these weeks spent actually seeing each other?” You asked, smiling. You couldn’t help but play along whenever he asked you to leave school. It was all just for fun, if anything JJ had the most supportive person you had in your life during school.
“I can think of a few things.” JJ replied, squeezing your side and brushing his nose against your collar and neck.
“Oh god.” You laughed, “stop we’re in public. There are families with children here.”
“How do you think they got the kids?” He shrugged.
“You’re a terrible person.” You replied, “come on, Kie and Pope will be here soon.”
“You’ve been home for like an hour and you’re already dying to see our friends instead of me.” JJ whined.
“An hour? Babe, I got in this morning...we spent the whole morning ‘unpacking’ in my room.” You pointed out. You’d taken the earliest ferry over that you could and met JJ on the docks. It didn’t matter that you’d just seen him two weeks ago or that you facetimed him every night, seeing him in person gave you the best feeling in the world. It was undeniable.
“Okay, I know I did not come all the way here just to watch you guys mack on each other.” Kiara announced as she came over to the table.
“Came all the way over? You fucking work here Kie.” JJ replied, rolling his eyes as you got up to give her a hug. He frowned at the loss of attention, even if he did know that going out with everyone meant not getting you all to himself.
“I had to go pick up Pope and then drive back.” Kiara said, as if that was a viable excuse.
“I’m like five minutes away...walking.” Pope pointed out, giving you a hug before grabbing a seat next to JJ.
“No, move.”
“I’m not moving!” Pope exclaimed, “dude, don’t push my chair.”
“He’s being a brat cause I’m apparently more excited to see you guys than I was to see him.” You replied, laughing as Pope smacked JJ’s hands away from his chair. You sat across from your boyfriend, sticking your tongue out at him.
“You are.”
“I am not!”
“She is.” Kiara said, grinning at you, “it’s okay I know you only date JJ so you can hang out with us.”
“Hey!”
“I know, what am I gonna do while you’re away?”
“It’s okay,” Pope said, reaching across the table and putting his hand over yours, “I’ll still be here.”
“Thank god.”
“Okay, seriously, the three of you are the worst.” Despite his words when you looked over at JJ he was smiling, eyes brighter than they’d been when you met him almost a year ago. Things weren’t perfect but they were good.

the week of ragnorok
posting this because so many kpop comebacks/debuts have happened from the 15th to the 21st it's so crazy that I've called this week "the week of ragnorok" lmao. what's companies' obsession w/this week we'll never know
anyways, let me begin!
1. ponzona - purple kiss
Tumblr media
purple kiss are a seven member girl group under rbw entertainment, the same company that has mamamoo, oneus and onewe. they debuted two days ago with a such a STELLAR song called ponzona. this song is them flexing their vocals and raps and i'm OBSESSED.
their ep called into violet is no skips, including pre-release singles can we talk again and my heart skip a beat. the ep mostly consists of slower songs such as can we talk again and period that showcase their vocals really well. also some upbeat, hype songs such as my heart skip a beat and skip skip are also in the ep.
these girls are so talented, so let's root for them! i see such a bright future for them.
2. killa - mirae
Tumblr media
mirae are a seven member boy group under dsp media, the same company that kard and april are under. they debuted on the 17th with the song killa which has a sound reminiscent of nct 127's superhuman. the concept is intriguing as it's a combination of futuristic sci-fi and traditional. i'm really curious to see how they develop it in the future.
the mood of the song is something that would be included in a superhero montage the vocals are solid along with the rap, making this overall a very strong debut in my opinion.
i haven't formed solid opinions of the ep killa yet, but it is a good step forward for a rookie group and has standout tracks such as swagger which was written by bm of kard, and higher, the instrumental being used as the theme song for mirae's youtube reality show.
pls perform one stage of higher mirae i am begging
these boys exude such an awkward but charming atmosphere when they're together, like that's the main reason i like them. but they're also mega talented, so check them out! they really do have the full package.
3. after school - weeekly
Tumblr media
weeekly is a seven member (what's up w/the number 7?) girl group under playm entertainment, the same company that houses victon and apink. they debuted on june 30 2020 with the song tag me, gaining attention for being a cute song amongst all the girl crush-esque concepts debuting at the time.
after school is their third comeback on the 17th and let me say that I ADORE THE STYLING. when i saw the first concept photos, it was love at first sight. i kept up with the updates just to see more of the styling and hopefully find a bop while i'm at it. AND FOUND A BOP I DID.
the mv is so bright and vibrant and has a variety of sets, making it feel like a breath of fresh air. i loved the scene where the girls were skateboarding on the rooftop 'cause it felt like i hadn't been outside in ages due to how boxed in kpop mvs feel nowadays.
the song's hook is so smooth and catchy like it lives in my head rent-free. also that reference to tag me is so cute.
the stages for this song are on point from the styling to the stage presence and the brief use of a skateboard was a nice thing to see. they're honestly such a serotonin boost, so go watch one if you haven't already. this one is my favourite.
the ep, we play, is pretty solid judging from the few times i've heard it. i haven't fully listened to it yet, but instant standout tracks are yummy, which was written by one of the members. also lucky whose instrumental reminds me of panaroma by iz*one.
yeah, so check out weeekly!
3. do or not - pentagon
Tumblr media
pentagon are a seven member boy group under cube entertainment and they're back with do or not which dropped on the 15th this song is has some rock elements much like their 2020 comeback, daisy. despite the bright visuals, do or not's lyrics are the exact opposite. they're about wanting to get over a breakup by pretending not to care, but still feeling hurt.
the lyric explanations are not my own, they are from a reddit post explaining all the aspects of this comeback linked here. all credit to them.
lyrics include:
"i don't care if you do or not. it doesn't matter, no matter what you say."
the chorus:
so what, i don't care
so far it seems like pentagon have gotten over the heartbreak and are vocal about it not controlling them anymore.
but the bridge tells a different story to the rest of the song:
leave me, let's see if you'll be alright
i'm going to try my best to forget you
i'll easily forget about you, and will hate you a little
the fact that they're trying to forget the heartbreak means that the song was a whole trick. that's what people do when they don't want to acknowledge their true feelings.
the contrast of pentagon's sound and visuals to their lyrics is interesting and a reminder to not take content at face value, to always look if there's a deeper meaning.
i love the overarching sound throughout this ep, like i could hear each of these songs being featured in a coming-of-age movie (one of my favourite subsection of music lmao).
standout tracks for me are that's me, baby i love you and boy in time. the album is a satisfying listen due to its cohesion, so i recommend you check it out.
whew, now i'm done. i didn't dive into every comeback that happened this week or this would never be released lmao. so here's my honorable mentions!
feel like - woodz
i like you - ciipher
young blood - drippin'
house party - super junior
breaking dawn - the boyz 1st japanese album

Character-Clow Reed
(avril lavingne voice) WHYD YOU HAVE TO GO AND MAKE THINGS SO CLOWMPLICATEEEED I SEE THE WAY YOURE ACTING LIKE YOURE SOMEBODY ELSE GETS ME FRUSTRATED- ok jokes aside LETS GOOOOO
Why I like them:
for all my angry yelling and kicking and complaining you may be surprised to learn that clow(riol) is one of my favorite parts of ccs!
i think that having the Mystery and Legend of a long-dead wizard that hangs over sakura’s head at the start get light shed on it more and more so that we can see he’s just a person makes the world of ccs feel small and personal. it really stabilizes the heart of the series, what i love most about ccs- that it’s a story about individuals and the choices they make. the magic itself all traces back to one man and the way he felt it was right to act and to treat other people. i think he’s a fascinating character and a very very good choice of central figure.
Why I don’t:
THAT SAID, AAAAAGHHHHH HE IS HORRIBLE HE IS JUST A TERRIBLE LITTLE MAN I HATE HIM I HATE HIM SOOOO MUCH. even putting aside everything he* pulls as eriol, just the things he does as clow reed make me SO upset....LYING ABOUT HIS DEATH??? ELABORATE SETUP TO PRETEND KERO AND YUE HAVE A CHOICE IN THE MATTER OF CHOOSING THE NEW CARD MASTER BUT ACTUALLY KNOWING ALL ALONG AND HAVING A SPECIAL MAGIC ITEM MADE TO SEE THAT IT GETS DONE??? BREEZING INTO A TOWN TO STEAL A FORTUNE TELLER’S BUSINESS, GETTING HER NICE AND KATE BEATON NEMESIS.PNG’D, AND THEN IGNORING HER FOREVER??? it’s bad!! *(it’s complicated,) ive said this jokingly before but i think he just doesnt even think about other people having agency, that he’s not trampling but Guiding and Helping. i think part of his controlfreakiness is also a deep fear that he’s not enough, that he can’t keep a friend on his own merits so he’s gotta get his claws sunk in as much as possible, whether by emotionally living rent free in people’s heads or magical dependance. and that’s not a uniquely horrible belief, yknow, i think it’s very human and normal, but the problem is no one can criticize him. not with the amount of control he has over the people he surrounds himself with, the fact that he can physically shut down kero and yue any time he likes, etc. it’s not that power inherently Makes You Evil, it’s that power made it harder for people to say “hey stop that”, and if no ones telling him to stop then he must be doing fine!
Favorite episode (scene if movie):
GENUINE TIE BETWEEN THE BACK TO THE PAST EP OF THE ANIME AND THE SAKURA SEES THE TRUTH SCENE IN MANGA. i think both of them are great- the tightly controlled dreamy guided tour where she sees just what he wants her to see, AND sakura outpowering him and seeing the reality of his lies. in the manga when sakura sees him gives gentle headkisses to kero and yue before putting them to bed and eriol+fujitaka-ing i go AUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUGHHHHHHHHHHHHHH ....... THEY LOVE SOMEONE WHO IS TERRIBLE AAAAAAAAAAAAAAUUUUUU MY HEART. i headcanon that’s when he mind-messed with them, too, i think he had to touch them to do it and that was how.
Favorite season/movie:
bold answer but im going to say the implications left behind in the clow card arc of Why Do Cards Act Like That/Have Those Specialties. what about clow made him want to make a voice-stealing card, a small-object-moving-card, a body-swap card, etc? it’s good questions.
Favorite line:
in the mokona book when they say he said dogs dont have owners they have housemates, bc that explains SOOOOO much abt him and how he treated kero and yue lololol. if you think being a pet owner and a roomate are the same you’re gonna treat your roomates, uhhhm, bad.
also if eriol counts its him in the wonderland ep like YOU DONT KNOW IF IM NOT THE KINDA PERSON TO PRETEND TO BE A CAT and I THINK YOU AND LI ARE SO DUMB I HAVE TO BITE MY TONGUE CONSTANTLY TO NOT INSULT YOU and BUT I CANT ACT LIKE THIS OR KERO AND YUE WILL KNOW IM CLOW. so like. was clow just like that then.
Favorite outfit:
uh his regular clothes are cool. theres an illustration on him in this cool coat with like a sun pin on it too. whenever i draw him in something frilly i have a huge brain. cant deny the guy has style and aesthetics. sakura’s first staff, look at it!! the style it has!!!
OTP:
im neutral-positive on clowyuuko cuz i havent holic’d since high school. you can refer to the answer i gave abt yue for clowyue thoughts (tl;dr: [touches ground] “something terrible happened here” ). madoushi is just kate beaton nemesis comic.
i think it would be funny if albus dumbledore was his ex.
Brotp
yuuko again i guess? and him and all his creations. headcanon territory even though that’s actually the next question but you asked for my thoughts so here they are: i think of him as trying to be a sort of fun camp counselor or teacher type for kero+yue and the cards- specifically a role with an authority behind it, but without the same sort of responsibility that a parent would have. or, i guess, lacking an unconditional love, always an undertone of you having to prove yourself. someone who you go to to learn from, but if he likes can also go “no no im just like you, now let’s have fun!”. it’s hard to explain, but there’s a difference.
what i’m trying to get at here is i think it’s significant that the only creations he has that we see him truly ‘raise’, (going by the info+lack of it we have, anyway, i fill in the blank for myself that kero and yue and the cards all showed up full of knowledge, fully formed, CLAMP DO NOT INTERACT!!!!!), were the mokonas, with yuuko. it was another person’s influence that brought a parental attitude in, it’s not something he ever wanted to be. there’s also a healthy dose of “yue textually had a crush on clow and i will not, no way, let you make that any more unfortunate than that already is”, i’ll admit, but i think that’s just a puzzle piece of the whole theory here. i think it would also be funny if he knew people like tolkein (eriol’s a tolkeinverse name if i remember correctly) and c.s. lewis (side note, i find the fact that clow is an actively practicing christian really funny), but i dont want to think too deeply about that sort of realworld mix, yknow.
Head Canon:
i think pranks were highly encouraged in his house and none of the clow cards are being intentionally destructive, just acting in ways that were totally normal at home, and are genuinely shocked to learn that people will get seriously injured without clow there to cushion their damage.
Unpopular opinion:
evil
A wish:
i wanna know what his pre-story days were like, his life with the cards, his life BEFORE the cards,
An oh-god-please-dont-ever-happen:
^ same the above but i find it out from clamp
5 words to best describe them:
did you know? clow sucks
My nickname for them:
clown, :kingboo: (discord emoji of him with a 🚫 over it), “the bastard jester himself” (which is, or at least was, in comedian-podcaster stephen buckleys twitter bio and i think it abt clow frequently, sorry stephen buckley), king of living rent free in people’s heads

youtube
How to say Focus the key to being effective and clear-minded, lost UIC was talking about what the Athena demons yes we have, so, desmond was reading a book, 80/20 principle in jig or salsa reading it, okay, what have you learned quickly, what are you like, from the book, text shortcut greater than, klonopin, nothing is vodka okay important delegation, okay less is more yes, is a d book, this is Deepak, 80/20, that’s what I’m feeling, share with you on the call was, is the critical Feud, yes, usual caveats with Obamacare, it was, 20, how, and everything, what I’m watching what I’m reading 81 everything is a D20, very very very very powerful, very powerful, so let me ask you this first of all in give me some, pasco shooting then we talk about strengthsfinder 2.0, i think most of you have taken a test, right, so one of my strengths is focus, That’s actually the number one from this rent Finders, so I see that over the years and I’ve talked to her about this, like the two most important, trays that I believe I have, is focus and consistency, focus and consistency, that I’m not necessary to smartest, i don’t have the most resources I didn’t I didn’t have the most experience, but I’m consistent in terms of what I do and I’m very very Focus I’m able to filter, important, there are practical, so it is a great quote that I Love by George Lucas always remember, your focus determines your reality, i like that a lot, your focus determines your reality, which is another way of saying, what you focus on expands, what you focus on expands, you focus on problems, what happens, big Mo Problems, beautiful Solutions you got more solutions you focus on abundance you get more abundance, You focus on what’s wrong you’ll get more what’s wrong, not working what’s wrong with me you get more what’s wrong with me, so let me ask you some questions give me some tasks that you do in your day today, okay just quickly yelled at out, editing videos, editing videos, emails okay, writing articles, articles, august social media okay closing sales, bookkeeping okay, what else, team Management okay, give me 3 free movie, personal development process development, okay so talk to clients, prospecting, strategy okay strategy, creating content okay so does a PMP right for the PNP, delivery so actually still filming of the service of the service yard that takes up a lot of time, all these things that we have to do, what happens is, for anyone of us, you look at all that got to do this and do this and to do list, when you look at this this is very overwhelming for anybody and this is just a partial list, Your business might have 20 more things and five more things.
Everyone of us is labeled yes, with this going on, most viewed look at this they want, what it do, panic procrastinate they freeze, kisses, yeah right is overwhelming, so today I’m going to give you a way to organize this you don’t you first of all you don’t want all this in your head, that’s the worst thing you can do cuz you get overwhelmed, now if you just put all of this in a to-do list that’s not good either, death of Barry, it’s good but is a very entry-level entrepreneur, cuz you put everything on to-do list and you kind of check it out I did this and I did this but are we doing the important things, today today I’m going to give you a way to organize this okay and we actually going to put into, Cactus right now so think of all the tasks that you have everything that you’ve got, what I want you to do, is I want you to group them into four categories how many how many categories, okay, i talked to Gary, maybe a couple of the members but not none of you guys, now this is for you if your, you’re making less than half a half a mil, and below, net income don’t count Revenue, can spend Revenue, so Hoffman Hoffman and below, that’s what you focus on so let me break it down for you, soyoung Lee Chan, your PMP which is personal media platform you have money now and your money in the future, so give me some of the tasks, again, any one of them, paid advertising for leaving soap a advertising that’s put that into, Legion, okay, let’s more specifically say Facebook ads, facebook apps, facebook ads, okay you two bats, make a video what would that fall into, bMP, what is a fall into, ignore it, yes, so what is it which one, money the future cuz you said your money taxes right, so my new future bookkeeping right, got, humanaOne, is it post on the Facebook, okay, bMP okay stop posting on Facebook, strategy, strategy so which one is it lead is if he MP is a money that was in money future, that’s right, depends on the strategy, it’s a short-term strategy is a long-term strategy, think they’ll be creating a strategy for your client that’s the delivery of a new future, does the, think about what you do, so let me get an example, you. I am meeting with a potential client I’m doing a strategy session has been converted into a long-term car, Definitely now, i’m doing a strategy session for coins on I’m only getting paid, that’s retaining clients money in the future, depends on the client, give me some money with this Define a strategy session to convert, call. Okay, give me the, i want to make sure you get this, prospecting what is a fondue, legion okay, okay I want to be very specific, soDo knocking for what you do, under the generation are also referrals, woodforest what do you mean, what cuz, i can either go spend money on a let’s say if I had no money for ads yes yes, trust me they know what I do Navy, and I can ask for how do you initiate a referral, i think it starts by having a serious talk with a person that you know has good, so reaching out your existing client and, Right..
Cuz you can also be putting together we form system that could be money in the future right so depends upon contact, so we firal, asking right, give me three more, renting a video with Ali MacGraw, okay wrecking a video so that what you want, regeneration, oconee generation okay alright, conversation back to be PMP right, reiki video in here, give me the, write an article which one would fall into, the article, deaths due to more, give me some give me some money now give me some money now, but you getting paid like right now right now okay so coaching call, closing on the sales right now right now right here, what else, no, no, find appreciation Eva Klein appreciation which one, depends on how you do it, if you do it just appreciate client hopefully to strengthen relationship you might fall into this but if you, Teaching about it, becomes this and also this okay give me give me a song that that’s one now, juventus put it here right, money money not right, sells women, yes, falls into, money now yes Workshop cuz he’s we designed to sell right to convert, good, that’s fine, not right, that way now, ice cream okay let’s play pretend, going to do this for your business, categorize what you do on a weekly basis put them into desk now here’s the thing, desecrated list and you show me that list, what if you have a lot of stuff, they say this is quite empty you have a lot of money now but very little money the future PNP Allegiant, what does that tell me about your business, unstable, what else, is a job, what are you focusing on, you’re in survival you’re desperate, Yep, that’s what he tells me is all your time and focus, he’s on this, how to make money now you’re not doing PMP you’re not doing Regen, you’re just what, right, just making money just say just trying to pay the bills, just call themselves man just make some money, no money to even think that long-term that does strategic so forget about that, forget about that so, you think in terms what if I am working on a say I’m a real estate agent, and I’m talking with a lot of people, i’m trying to stop this relationship so I’m walking a lot of money in the future, but yet I’m not doing nature and I’m not doing PMP and I’m not coding classes what happens, what is a tell me about your business, tavolata Des, bottle have a lot of these three, wasting a lot of time okay, Not implementing, what will happen to my cash flow, steven, the only way to get, the money now, not always, not always, yaki Focus too much, not always, if I just go to some referrals I have to do any of that I can still make a Sale close, not necessary, now what if I have a lot of, pMP, listen 89% of stuff is all PMP, villa Vicenza Valero closing money now or in the future what does that tell you, sapphire, business, may be unclear about, yeah there’s no, does no offer, no I’m just saying you activities wife, cuz if he always says if you can bring some Jamaican money, if I got my new business social media influencers, big following, lord of Engagement no money, what do they focus on, andrea Noli chain, hope you like you got big following but where’s the money, you see this road, instead cuz it’s no money now and it’s the money future, Right so I can look at their own business.
Very clearly you know what to focus on now if ideally you wanted to be a quite, balance thing right you don’t want you don’t want this to be 80% on the future or 80% just money now, you don’t you want to have the kind of like a table kind of like thing about this chair maybe even you won’t have full licks, to be quite equal so as you’re working on stuff, don’t just say hey sometimes, if you’re into survival mode now, no problem with that, cuz you get over there I need to but I can’t just always operate in this column I need to it’s kind of think and diversify, analogous, d Street Leach and PNP money now but you don’t focus on the future what happens, What happens, strike on your living month-to-month, no month month living month-to-month no plan, gafisa famine and you’re not thinking, guess usually think about the Breakthrough, comes from this, why you could be that one relationship, capital One deal, police stop man, lee Chan money little money and I forgot about that, that’s a problem no long-term vision, let me tell you something about money now one of the most important thing, when it comes to the money now category, collecting, collecting the money you’re supposed to have, making the cells, that’s not it, making a salad, versus collecting the money, collecting us as important as closing the cells make sense, think about this, collecting, klein on on a monthly recurring Klein like accounts, low receivable, collecting, when I get in the morning, collect, collect, collect especially if you don’t be trying collect, anyway kering SA, what happens, Listen to always feel as if you want your voice. Clean on the 1st, hypothetically, okay and the climb was on vacation and somehow they was spending, money and the kind of credit card, and this month it didn’t go through, okay, and they won’t come back until the 10th, so you can’t really contact them, sofia the First, no you won’t see the money maybe when they come back and say you know you the update credit card no problems or do you want me to do, on the 12th, now you might not think that’s not a big deal, is a, big f****** deal, because the 12 days delay, i can tell you on average, people updated credit card this and that happened a couple times a year, next time this happens is going to be like another 10 days or 5 days, when you do this enough, you just lose one month of, Revenue, when you have 20 30 40 50 100 people, this happens, is a big problem, is he talking about, yeah if that’s just part of it but also is our responsibility sometimes, oh yeah you know that you don’t you just focus on closing sales, it is an intention thing I’m talking just focus versus I do collect money from that person that’s it that’s an important thing, it’s just a habit of if you want, i love the way that you’re charging us through PayPal automatically, i’m trying to actually remove invoicing, i made a mistake already yes, product yes, quick enough., on-the-fly do you find a vs. B the opportunity to completely different things depending on their knees, so is there a way that we can Auto stripe, any any make payment processing recurring just get the credit card just need a credit card, okay I’ll talk to you, Right just write any one of those work.
Unique, uni Boston right, you want to make it easy right make it easy for them to do, the legion PMP Van Morrison area what if I am doing a lot of Legion SAE 90%, yep I dis is very empty what does that tell you about the business, no, so maybe not the right type of legion, or the guy, or the girl, terrible at closing, all the offer it’s not as weak right, so instead of all images focus on let’s see how this gives you a very clear picture, so when you break down and you group your stuff into this, if you see months I’ll go by and he is very off balance very happy on this, you got a problem, right you have you on this and you got none of this you’ve got a problem, she always want to balance it out and you say don’t you know I’m doing a lot of that, But also I think I need only got two things about each and I got a bunch of this over here no good, let’s meat, we allocate my time invest my time into building some of this or the PNP so you want to be, there’s a balance that we all have off balance all the time depends on what you’re working on, but you wanted to be, focusing on some effort into, all these things, so just break it down, yes, no it doesn’t bother any of these categories, that doesn’t count, because until you take what you learn and Implement that does not count, now we need to learn, but I just want to make sure you don’t think it’s a lot of people like that reading books and stuff, How do you say future, testimony future, does money in your mind, yes, give me a little bit more, yacht doing JB’s it could also be less a I’m working on something that I baked, teal demedici huge PMP, i’m trying to get on on a TV interview, but once I get that, or we could also be sometimes, i’m working on a deal that I find someone, that can integrate with my business that can save you a whole bunch of money, taco Bell sauce to, that also weighs is he which right, if, vic and I would think it would do if all sorted leaving the beach and stuff you when I was horse, that could be my new future, i have pissed off working first, so this is very very clear this you look at what you do put it into this framework you know what, going on, Espeon Best Consulting right, if you show me this is very clear I could just hate what’s wrong with this picture, have pity on this, and I don’t have any, pMP. So let’s, give you a couple moment, write down the fort Collins, is it happen to an updo the six column system in 10 building but you didn’t happen to an envelope, you do that, and write down let’s say I give you, 2 minutes 15 things how many 15 things that you do on a regular basis in your business and, i just put into full columns, can see how you feel if it’s am I putting the right column you can discuss with each other to, future so should be, is pre-selling, that’s what can bees all about, pre-selling, i’m pre-selling Prix qualifying, the ideal prospects for me, to my contact, so when they do get to talk to me or they get into my funnel, they are, hoff Delaware what I do, there’s certain amount of trust been established, that’s what I’m talkin about, maybe you should switch PNC Legion and not, Because I think this is the, and what is importance, batting cages near me, landing pages just a landing page, is it not, if you do something that landing page and you tried Facebook traffic something, pNP traffic to a Denny’s Legion, right see how you think about it so that doesn’t mean anything yet, it’s like you have a feeling to it you’re not going anywhere yet, distinction Tucson clear here, there’s no point in doing PMP if you have no weed, cuz you can do a lot of PMP in Baybrook, without a clear offer a good offer a compelling offer, awesome califano yes, so you can see a lot of people do this, thing Updike people do PMP stuff Vonda Smith, this is talking about, so these need to be simultaneous what happens is if you do it well together, your PMP will help your conversion with liegen, Kisses Moultrie selling, and multi-gen you have, perfect time driving, i’m using Facebook as I’m driving down, pumpkin patch, simple on a thank-you page I told Colin same thing right goddamn to join your Facebook group, that’s my PMP that I have, d’Amore, the bigger my TPMS, pre-selling I have not the more members I have at the same time will maybe more people often to Miley nothing when I, so I can convert them into money now, so it should work, very well put together not a separate, i’m trying to teach integrated, right is not just, this is my right punches by left punches my right kick this my left kick which one is better, pathways opening, right, depends with opening, no no, for myself I’m leaving as you know I’m more, an advocate of this not out of balance, more advocate of this because I found out when this is strong, This is Mike, lee punch when this is good, dismiss this all becomes easier, what I have a strong reputation and brand, easier to close deals, easier for them to talk into my stuff, easier for me to do JV with other, influencers, because this is strong, when this is not strong, i found out I, from before I always have to do, locke convincing, a lot of selling, a lot of like just start pushing I don’t want to do that, so I’m very heavily on this, no, what’s the downside PMP, takes longer, text more consistency, this is quick this is quick this is quicker this is. Quick, but this is the kind of the long-term importance right, something to think about, finish that give you a couple last minute 30 second one minute, fort Collins, so webinar away to start saving money now but if you’re working on, Yes.
That’s right I got it, mega, i think that, better in terms of, allegheny my Prime during the day but now is making me think, the next week, i want to record everything that I do and take a look at it, yes, i go back to see if really, i’m being honest with myself and the Beast, yep, do that to try to comment, distracted with, uSC, absolutely, and I’m unsure that, i’m leaking all over the place, and you will see you your week area and you saw saw this tells you some the stuff that you have, this is this is s*** I don’t know why am I even doing this that’s why I want you to think, like Dairy people are very busy and don’t put this result, you look at that to-do list and compare to this, There’s no correlation, they just busy doing s***, right yeah you could do with that stuff, what have you done, oh yeah organize my thing I talked to some people I talked to some potential people doesn’t mean s***, which one is very clear, none, business struggling, 100%, right thumb very disciplined and look at what I do okay if it better fall into this, and this would help me sometimes I come up with like I’m creative to if I come with a lot of ideas, and I will look at this actually doesn’t fit into any of this stuff, so maybe I’ll put the back burner maybe I will visit the future doing something and then look at this, well, yeah I kind of important to that, but that’s actually what I need right now I actually need some of their stuff, right, see what I mean, Now what happens is, adding my list I want to add one more piece so you get this, at loading to it, as You Are, let’s say you want to do this yet, and you have three ways, that you know of the legion, and you say I’m doing my best with those three already, but I’m still not getting enough leads, what’s wrong, now the learning kicks in, does my lack of knowledge is restricting me I only know three, what if you know 30 ways of each end, now I can filter until I can do these 10 instead of these three, so the money has to fit with what you want to accomplish yes, listen to the legion I’m doing a lot EMP I’m not closing sales what I need to learn, closing on the phone, that would give you the book so I want, right, steven, looking at, All that, focusing, yep, and that’s why I gave you the last time first, kind of Leah Foundation this is just practical implementation, just look at the stuff and see where you at, good, you put everything into all this, one Halo, prospective what people do naturally is do the easy stuff, yes, yes, all the s*** sikuli smokes, i’ll make sure that I get pissed on, if you, i didn’t have all that doesn’t get done, it does not get done, yes, reason why I made any money in the last 2 weeks, i got no application, don’t sit by, i uploaded that one, and then I can put an offer out, i’ve been focusing on, money later money now, maintain my PMP, and that’s why this tells you the truth, and that’s why I’d love, business I love martial art unlike from my Seafood he said you know, Is so f****** honest.
You can talk a good game you can talk s*** you can say I’m tough I touch hands in 3 seconds I find about, the true you, are you a coward are you actually good rubs, 3 seconds I know, hutchins immediately, it’s so honest, businesses the same thing, you can talk about this and talk about that, results, that’s it, how many clients how much you making, everything else is all talk, indus River on a self-reflection thing right, and that is interesting I love that part of it is so honest, and that’s why I honestly look at what you do, and you just look at it every month I’m just asking look once a month right look out what’s going on music all the time or on your wife, in your computer, just look at it when you’re off balance, you know, immediately go to a lot of this, I think I need some of that too, right I need some of those big deals maybe that would give me a breakthrough take me to the next level, i also need to Dad about the PMP but I need a different kind of PNP right money to change that up, attract better clients you just a wheelie the whole thing, it’s about going back to these columns, and you continually make it, better slightly, gradual Improvement, gradual Improvement, that’s it, it doesn’t have to be a long list, it doesn’t it doesn’t but sometimes chances are for most of you guys for all of us, 5 bunch of s*** to find it top 3, did you try through you might think this is it, but if you try can you come up with a better three, so that’s why most like Jack, challenge you’re not trying enough yet, You try one try to work that well, how many things to try, you try enough, i’ve tried so many things at an early age, that’s okay I know I know enough stop that what works for me what doesn’t work for me that I know I’m very clear, hello stop. I don’t need to do that, i’m not going to I’m not going to go to a networking and Network., what’s with some people, psychology limited for my list, what I need to do is show up with the speaker, how to get speaking gigs, how to get the positioning that’s my skill I do that all day long, yes it so if you’re speaking with an appointment you’re doing this, if your speaking is selling something for the platform is this right, mp2, cuz you have the authority positioning, andre is thinking about that ratio Andres actually trying to do multiple these at the same time, What we do and that’s why I gave him a task think about this, he’s going there before was like a draw hopefully I get some business research off all he’s trying to focus on, future, allegiant, i’m tweaking it into, school. Let’s make an offer now as seldom something, seldom something right now, goodybag PM people walking around, what is the Shrimp Factory thing, monday future that’s why I give him a little book, so did two people are not ready to buy they have something, has said some staying power they might have to that a year from now that they might buy something for me, pattern nothing and expanded differently, right to change if he could have done this to but I want to do these three, same facial same we will Network, pick different results.

Operators Interview
Operators
Operators is a Montreal based project created by Daniel Boeckner, (Wolf Parade, Handsome Furs, Divine Fits), Devojka, and Sam Brown (Divine Fits, New Bomb Turks) in 2014. The band released an EP in 2014, and released their first LP in 2016. Operators supported these releases with a series of international tours across North America, and Europe. Their latest release, ‘Radiant Dawn’ consists of nine tracks that meld raw analog hardware with Boeckner's distinct voice to create an immersive cinematic sound. Interspersed between the tracks are instrumental intertitles that amplify the album’s 1970s sci-fi dystopian feel. ‘Radiant Dawn’ maintains a completely fresh energy for a band very much in top form… We talk to Dan Boeckner about working in an isolated setting, the VHS era and HBO’s Chernobyl …
TSH: How would you sum up your creative partnership with Devojka in the lead-up to ‘Radiant Dawn’?
Dan: Once the ‘Blue Wave’ touring cycle ended and I had time off from Wolf Parade, I started putting together some basic ideas for what I thought would turn into ‘Radiant Dawn’ tracks. We had this sort of unspoken understanding that we weren’t going to limit ourselves to the same gear that we used to write ‘Blue Wave’, so I’d set up a few limited combinations of synths and drum machines and just started carving out patterns and chord progressions I liked. I had a lot of false starts. It wasn’t really until Dev and I began working on things together in our studio that the aesthetic of ‘Radiant Dawn’ revealed itself. We did a few days of free form jamming direct to 2 track cassette with Andrew Woods (who ended up mixing the album) processing the entire mix through a table of guitar pedals. When we were listening to the playback, it pretty much set the tone for the sonic aesthetic of the album. Dev and I got to work on building a kind of psycho-geography for the songs to live in. I got obsessed with the idea of a kind of Irradiated Pastoralism. These banal landscapes made completely unrecognisable by an “event”. Maybe a visitation, nuclear fallout, the effects of extreme climate change. Not post-apocalyptic but post-post-apocalyptic. Everything has grown back, the sun is shining, but the landscape and objects have been changed. The foliage has changed. Everything is unrecognisable. Dev and I worked really quickly after that. I felt like once we built the world, it was easy to fit the songs into it.
TSH: As you guys fleshed out new material, what was the level of focus in the studio like?
Dan: We’re pretty intensely focussed when we’re writing. One of the great things about having Dev as a writing partner is that we’re both completely comfortable and happy to play 4 bar bass sequence for hours and just reach a kind of trance state, adding and subtracting melodies and trying out different vocal lines. It’s really my favourite part of the process because it feels pure and totally removed from the world of the “intellectual”. Usually we’d record voice memos and then go over them, pick out the exciting moments and work those moments into a structure.
TSH: You’ve touched on this album pushing you forward into a new chapter of writing. Can you tell us more about auditioning your lyrics…
Dan: I’ve never really done it before, so it was a bit nerve wracking. I wanted the lyrics on this album to function like a bridge between the different narrators and protagonists in the different songs. To reinforce the narrative and show that they all lived in the same world that we’d built. Once I got over my initial uncomfortableness about sitting in a room and reading/singing lyrics to Dev, it was a blast. We got to dig into the songs and try a bunch of different things out. I filled an entire notebook with lyrics for this album and used probably 10% of them.
TSH: Also, what were the benefits in working in a really isolated setting?
Dan: Our studio is down the street from our house, on a semi bustling street…but the studio itself feels like a space station. Walking in the door for me is like walking through an airlock. There’s the outside world where linear time exists, people are getting drunk at the bar below, cars driving by, occasionally I look out the window and see someone I know…inside the studio, time stops, everything is calm, it’s a blank space where you just work and build something. I like being able to access both of those things. To spend a whole day isolated and working and then shut the door and go back to normal city life.
TSH: Was ‘Days’ identified early on as the album opener?
Dan: When I finished the first, extremely rough pass of ‘Days’ and played it for Dev, we both knew that it should be the first song on the album. The protagonist wakes up in the woods mumbling the lines of the chorus and the whole song rushes forward to a collapse where the drum machine and pads just start falling apart. The album ends in the woods with the protagonist of ‘Low Life’ watching his small town become unstuck in space/time and there’s a similar disintegration of the track. There’s a kind of loop there. I also really liked the idea of the first melodic thing you hear on the album being just Buchla bass and smeared out vocals.
TSH: Moreover, what sort of motivations do you draw on to pen a track like ‘Faithless’?
Dan: ‘Faithless’ is about the hallucinatory nature of reality (online and offline) under late period capitalism. The same grotesquely funny reality bending force field that happened in the USSR during the last years of its existence. When I wrote it, I was thinking about the absurd effects of 80s GOSPLAN (a factory that makes 10s of thousands of platform shoes that no one wants, based on calculations made by state bureaucrats) and the existential horror of watching verified fast food chain twitter accounts “interact” with each other about depression and how they’re pretty much the same thing. The failure of an ideology, political system and ecumenic ideal creating this gradual psychedelic effect on our daily lives. Accepting that. Not really knowing or caring if anything is true because…our last individual agency in this collapsing system is being able to believe something ridiculous like the earth is flat or that vaccines are a government conspiracy. Losing faith in pretty much everything. I wanted to write a song about that ending up being a liberating force for change.
TSH: How key is it for Operators to continuously have a strong visual element?
Dan: It’s become really important to the way we want to present the band. When we started, it was more of a stark, Fugazi style minimalism where we wouldn’t think about lighting onstage or a constant aesthetic, but with this record Dev and I are so invested in the world we built for ‘Radiant Dawn’, we felt like it was important to invite people into it with short films, projections onstage… to give people an immersive experience.
TSH: Speaking of visual elements, when you think of the VHS era, what sort of nostalgia and memories come to mind for you?
Dan: When I think of the VHS era I think of one thing: McQuinns Video. I grew up in a very remote rural community in Canada. We had one video rental store and it was in the basement of this guy Dick McQuinns house. You’d go in his front door, walk down a hallway and open another door. You’d walk down a flight of stairs and be greeted by a massive poster for the movie Maniac, which is an oil painting of the titular Maniac holding the severed head of a woman and a giant bowie knife. His stock was probably 50% “regular” films and 50% insane horror movies. I loved going there and wandering through the stacks of VHS tapes, looking at the covers. My brother and I would rent a bunch of horror movies and spend summer afternoons with the blinds closed mainlining Lucio Fulci and John Carpenter. I think it broke my brain in the best possible way.
TSH: Is the notion of being adaptable one that you’ve had to master being an artist over the years?
Dan: I’m not sure if I’ve mastered it, but it’s a really important skill to cultivate. One thing I do know is that in 2019, no one who works on the business side of music has any fucking idea what’s happening. All the models that “worked” 5-10 years ago are obsolete and irrelevant. That coupled with the fact there seems to be this weird, Lovecraftian shadow of the “good old days” still guiding a lot of the decisions that get made about how to direct an artist’s career means that WE as artists need to trust our instincts and experiences on the road/in the business more and more. If you’re a working musician and you’re paying attention, you’re going to know what works and what doesn’t more than any of the management class people around you. Being fluid and adaptable to this new paradigm is the way to stay happy and working.
TSH: You’ve touched on how ‘shooting stuff around on the internet can be really damaging’. Do you feel that today’s technology is information overload and that real communication is crumbling?
Dan: I don’t feel like communication and engagements are suffering but I do feel like the networked nature of these systems and the way they’re a perfect vector for political brain poisoning has been incredibly damaging to social and political life, even here in Canada.
TSH: Having some German in you, do you have any strong attachments to German ways of life?
Dan: Haha! Not at all. I do love krautrock though! And, now that I think about it… currywurst.
TSH: What do you and Devojka bond and laugh over most whilst on tour?
Dan: Late night forced karaoke in the van, whatever weird regional American gas station items we come across, terrible hours long comedy riffs (usually based on a single word) that are just the product of the collective insanity of being in a van for 6-10 hours day.
TSH: Does your dog Archie still sleep on your suitcase when you need to access it?
Dan: Yes. Every single time we leave on tour. Always my suitcase. Probably because it’s bigger and more comfortable than Devs. We used to bring him out on the road with us and it was great… he’s an incredible equaliser. Say you’ve got a surly promoter or stage tech…it’s incredibly hard to be a complete asshole when there’s a little, friendly dog wandering around and charming everyone.
TSH: What impressed you most about HBO’s Chernobyl? And what else have you been watching lately?
Dan: I loved Chernobyl. I’m a huge fan of Jarred Harris. It’s jarring to watch something produced in the West in 2019 that’s not just ultra-reactionary and critical of Russia in general, even though the story itself is an indictment of late period Soviet bureaucracy. I liked how the director acknowledged how much of the series was lifted from Svetlana Alexeivichs incredible book, as well. I’d recommend that anyone who enjoyed Chernobyl go out and buy her latest work Secondhand Time - one of the best things I’ve ever read. Some other things I’ve watched lately: Neon Genesis Evangelion (still great), The Wailing (amazing Korean horror film), The Dark (the German Lost but good), Stranger in a Strange Land (1987 Nick Cave in Berlin doc), Marketa Lazarova (Czech new wave and the most black metal film ever made) and Ian Nairn - Nairn Across Britain. The whole series is up on YouTube and I think I learned more about UK social geography from it than anything I’ve ever read. A lot of the locations seem bleak (it’s always raining and grey) or run down (it was filmed between 71-78) but the way he imbues these places with magic and history makes you feel like you’re listening to Alan Moore talk about sacred geometry. It’s a deeply odd and very British documentary series. There’s an entire episode about Wolverhampton that’s completely gripping, if that’s any indication of how charming this guy is.
TSH: Devojka has previously made drinks for her neighbourhood – do you get treated to some cocktail specials on tour?
Dan: Without a mobile full bar, it’s hard to get the same quality of drinks out BUT, we did a pretty big booze buy on the last tour and had a box full of some top shelf liquor that just came with us into every backstage.
TSH: Finally, what’s pleased you most about the band’s progression to date?
Dan: The fact that we got to the point where we could make a record like ‘Radiant Dawn’. I’m not discounting our other stuff but to me ‘Radiant Dawn’ was one of those “signpost albums” you get to make once every 5 years or so. A record where you push through into another phase of your creative life and discover some new tools, new approaches, new language for making music and everything becomes challenging and exciting. For me, that’s really only happened twice before in the last 15 years and I’m glad we kept pushing at our song writing process. Evolving as a live band has been really rewarding too. To be so linked and tuned into each other on stage you can be in the middle of a set and just throwing new things, flourishes, new parts back and forth at each other and playing off them. Those moments are the closest I get to pure, mindless joy.
