#this franchise is built on angst

Just curious, what’s your opinions on Kristoph and Phoenix? I see you reblog ship posts about them sometimes and I’m really curious about your opinions on their dynamic both inside and outside of ship stuff, because I didn’t really know how to interpret Kristoph in particular. I think he’s one of the worse villains in AA tbh, it’s been a while so I may be misremembering, but I just didn’t… get that much substance from him?
kristoph is certainly a really hard character for me to fully develop an opinion on in isolation. i think the only area where i'm capable of saying anything about him i can back up with significant references to the text is in regard to his relationship with phoenix, because that's where the meat of his character interactions are. and more broadly because as a #phoenixhead my primary means of looking at the entire franchise is how things relate to phoenix. if you'd like to read about my interpretation of phoenix and kristoph's relationship more specifically i've got a post on that subject here. i think it's a character dynamic that has a TON going for it relative to the screentime if you're able to disregard fanon and look directly at what's in the text.
but more on kristoph individually
kristoph suffers from the same thing that all of aa4's major characters and plotlines do: not getting another game. there was clearly more to the gavin brothers' story we didn't get and will never get, and knowing that there's Something there we have absolutely no means of predicting or unraveling makes it hard to theorize. he kind of exists in a quantum state for me where i can see a ton of alternate perspectives on his character's complexities and just buy whichever one i'm feeling at a given moment. i personally wouldn't say he lacks substance because every interaction he has with any other character is, imo, very compelling and gives me a lot to chew on. but he's a character that's all questions and no real conclusions for sure.
i don't think he's a cackling machiavellian serial abuser. i think hes easily the kind of person who has the capacity to be emotionally abusive and manipulative to the people closest to him without being Pure Evil. because we have so little on him it's very easy to portray kristoph as the kind of sinister that provides whatever OP's favorite flavor of angst is. and i'm certainly no exception to that; i just happen to be a person who is into maybe some subtler flavors.
he's both one of ace attorney's most calculated villains, with poisoning vera's nailpolish being an incredibly cold maneuver that suggests a lot of foresight, and one of ace attorney's most brutal murderers, capable of getting aggressive enough in a moment to bludgeon a man to death with a bottle. i think kristoph can be understood as a character whose primary motivation is control, both over himself and others. there's that critical line in turnabout succession where he tells klavier he's out of control, and klavier says "whos control? mine, or yours?" his reputation is built on his ability to stay calm under pressure, and his ability to stay calm under pressure is built on his tendencies to preemptively engineer situations in his favor. the stuff with phoenix and the gramarye case represents what we can presume to be the biggest failure of his career.
i think this puts him very much in line with AA1's main villains. people like to compare him to dahlia a lot for obvious reasons and there's some fun to be had there but i think it lets people overlook how well he ties into AA1. redd white controlled the press and controlled the judges to get away with his blackmail ring. von karma controlled the witnesses to engineer his perfect cases. damon gant controlled the police and the evidence, and then controlled lana to control the prosecution. although those were all one-case villains i think kristoph justifies his larger scope in aa4 by the significant and longstanding personal connections he has to the rest of the main cast. kristoph represents the mirror image of those AA1 villains; aa1 shows the way the deck is stacked against the defense. kristoph shows what it looks like when someone tries to stack it in the other direction
i think kristoph plays an important part in the larger franchise by showing what corruption looks like from the defense's bench, and how this corruption takes a different cadence when it lacks the systemic power that the villains like gant had. i think his cold, calculated approach to defense works well as a foil to the type of defending we saw from phoenix who is all heart and charges in head first. i think apollo works well representing a sort of compromise between the two, being a little bit shrewder than phoenix but no less earnest. i think klavier, then, as a prosecutor who is much less aggressive than the previous 3 both personally and professional serves to further invert the expectations set by the trilogy in a way that's really satisfying.
is kristoph missing some pretty critical backstory that i would love to see? yeah. absolutely. but i think when you look at him as a story device rather than an underdeveloped character he adds a tonnnnn to the series. that said, i will die wondering.

Your mind wanders to the not so distant past while you do your night time routine. You blankly stare at yourself absent-mindedly as you lather lotion on your hands and arms.
It’s crazy how madly and deeply in love you and Sidney were a week ago.
You can’t help but reminisce about the reckless night you and Sidney shared. The very night that you think might have led to such a life-altering event.
“Babe? you hear Sidney call for you from the bathroom.
You have just gotten home from an annual fundraising ball that the Pittsburgh Penguins hold to support the foundations it is in partnership with. As the captain, and arguably the face of the franchise, Sidney’s hectic night also meant having to always stand wearing your impractical heels and a smile that has to be genuine enough– but not so much as to come off pretentious and inauthentic.
While all of the actions you’ve shown were true, it was evident that the pressure to remain perfect was taxing. To say that you were tired would even be an understatement.
You feel a hint of hunger but even that won’t stand against your need for a good night’s sleep.
As you lazily take off your earrings from one ear to another, you hum as a cue for Sidney to let you know whatever it was that’s going on in his mind.
“How does this thing work exactly?”
Baffled about the query, you lay your jewelry pieces flat onto the tray, and aim for the bathroom. You were still wearing the dress that elegantly clothed you for the entire night. It was a dress that Sidney had picked out himself. A dress that he knew would compliment and suit his girl just right.
The sliding doors of the bathroom were already half-open thereby causing you to see Sidney’s reflection in the mirror; his brows furrowed in total and utter bewilderment.
“What’s wrong?” you ask, meeting his eyes in the mirror once he hears your voice.
He turns to face your way and in his hand rests what seemed like a tiny, but regular, container of skin moisturizer you have been meaning for him to try.
“You watch me get ready for bed for years now, honey.” you idly tell him.
Sidney recognizes the exhaustion in your words, enjoying how your lazy voice register in his ears. He smiles.
“I don’t want to risk doing it wrong,” he explains. “I looked up this brand on the internet and I must say, it costs a lot for such a tiny bottle.”
You roll your eyes as you take the product from him. “It costs a lot because it also takes a lot to rescue,” you pause for effect as you playfully point at him, “that face.”
The two of you chuckle softly. Bare feet and about to get unready.
“Have you washed your face?” you ask him. Sidney nods.
“Alright. What else have you done?”
He shrugs, glancing over to his side of the sink. You’ve laid out a few products for him. Some of them he’d already gotten used to and some that he’s still figuring out. Sidney tells you about the few products he has initially applied.
“Could you please help me?” he asks in that voice he only uses with no one else but you.
You sigh dreadfully, eyes already closed with how tired you were. You lean your head on his shoulder, mumbling your words.
“But I’m so sleepy.” you let him know. After having a few seconds of rest, you add, “I haven’t even gotten my makeup off yet.”
Sidney knows you were beat. Even if he doesn’t tell you, he truly appreciates the great lengths you go for him. You don’t have to do it, but you did it all just the same for as long as it involved Sidney.
“I’ll take it off,” he volunteers.
“Pfft.” you snicker a foolish laugh. “I bet I can get a goal past you faster than you can learn how to take my makeup off. Properly.”
“Come on,” he says, putting his hands on your waist, giving it a good squeeze. “You got to at least let me try. I know you’re tired.”
You give him a smile but reply in a commanding tone, “Promise you’ll do it like I do?”
Sidney nods, ready to do after your bidding. “Religiously.”
Once you agree, you let him gently lift you up the counter next to the sink so as to let you be in a comfortable position. By the looks of it, the odds of you falling asleep were high and Sidney just couldn’t bear letting you stand on your feet after you’ve murdered them with those ridiculously high heels.
“Nooo,” Sidney coos. “Don’t fall asleep.”
With closed eyes, you softly chuckle. “Mkay.”
He glances over to the rack where you keep your nighttime essentials and asks, “What do I do first?”
Sidney willfully follows every instruction you give him as you patiently guide him throughout the process. His endless musings, in the hopes of keeping you awake, have evidently worked despite your exhausted state.
You didn’t want to drift off anyway. You were in total bliss feeling his touch; soft with care – delicate. Sidney’s fingers graze onto your skin ever so lightly as he applied every product. He did what he had promised you. He did your nighttime routine religiously.
His movements were put to a stop. You hear a soft clink of the product onto the tray; a sign that he was through.
Before you get to open your eyes, Sidney leans towards you. He then lightly pressed his lips against yours so as to give you a peck.
He plants a couple more before he eventually breaks away.
“Done.” He says enthusiastically, seeing you with a wide smile on your face.
“Yeah?” you briefly open your eyes, Sidney coming into full view. You see him half-naked with only his pajama bottoms on. His chest was rose-colored; perfectly in contrast with the shade of his stubble.
You take a quick glance at yourself in the mirror so you could get a peak of what he’s done. Huh. Pretty good.
You turn your head back and face him wearing a tight-lipped smile.
“Like it?” he asks. “How did I do?”
“You did fine.” you kid.
Sidney pretends to be appalled. “Fine? Just fine?”
“Uh-huh.” you tease. “Not bad for a first timer.”
“A’right.” he says with a smirk. “I know I could’ve done a lot worse than a ‘not bad’ so I’ll take it.”
“I’m just playing with you.” you tell him. “You did a good job.”
You open your arms, asking for a hug. Obligingly, he leans in and lets you wrap your arms around his nape. Your hands then found their way onto his face. Your fingers graze over rough stubble just as your eyes meet Sidney’s.
With your thumb landing on his lips, you gently pull Sidney’s face closer so you could lock him in a kiss. Gentle and sweet. Passionate despite being done swiftly. You feel each other’s warmth– with your mouth and your bodies pressed so close together.
Once the two of you break away, you say, “Thank you for taking care of me.”
His left hand removes some errant strands that lazily fashioned the side of your face. The other makes its way on the small of your back, pulling you even closer.
Before the two of you dive into another kiss, Sidney says, “Thank you for letting me.”
𖥸
When Sidney asked you to move in with him, the first thing he did was to start a major renovation of his home. You were not a fan of it because of the obvious reason; it was unnecessary. But alas, Sidney had his ways. He told you it was not just his home anymore. It was yours. “Ours.” was what he said.
It didn’t matter where the two of you were. Sidney had countless away games and series, and you had your fair share of business meetings on your end. But no matter where the two of you were, regardless of being away, your togetherness was kept by the home you have built with him. After all, Sidney’s home was just a massive block of building situated on acres and acres of land, standing still and lonely.
Then came you.
He stripped his home clean when you moved in. Little by little, you were able to incorporate yourself into his home. You had a say in every change; what has to go and what can stay. What paint colors to use and what kind of furniture he should get. Sidney did nothing but say "yes" the entire time. He wanted you to feel at home as much as he did. Neither the place nor the big still and lonely building did matter because he had you. For Sidney, you were home.
From the gorgeous outdoor landscape, classic hardwood floors, to high and white ceilings, Sidney wanted every corner of his home – inside and out, to have a touch of you. Only you.
It was his futile attempt at a romantic gesture. He wanted to be reminded of you each time he was in it. Because just like what he said, no matter what happens, wherever he may be, you were the person he knew he’s always going to come home to.
Looking back, it hasn’t occurred to you just how high and white the ceilings were. How distant everything seemed. Without Sidney, all of it seemed dull and ordinary. You just did not realize it until you spent the last several hours staring at that boring ceiling, lying in an all too cold bed that has seen the best and the worst of you and Sidney.
In spite of your still heavy and tired eyes due to all the crying, you find yourself reaching for your phone yet again. Maybe this time you’d get an answer.
“Please pick up.” you utter as you try to numb yourself with the endless ringing of the line. It was getting really late. Even with what happened earlier, you still wanted to hear his voice. That way you’d know he was okay. That way you’d know he was coming home.
With time feeling like eternity, you managed to give it some thought. Maybe it was your fault. Maybe he was right. You did attack him; one way or another. You could have told him some other time when it felt right or when neither of you were tired. Maybe that way, he could have reacted differently.
The weight you feel in your chest must have been incomparable to how he felt. It came to him unsuspectedly. The least you could have done was lay it all down easy. But no, you chose to put him in a difficult position where he has to choose between his present and the future. An ambush that was undeniably uncalled for.
Maybe, at some point, you forgot Sidney had a life where you didn’t belong. Maybe that was where you went wrong. Sidney had a life. You made him yours.
Your hand travels down to your stomach so as to remind you of what life already is – what life will be. Sidney knew you were carrying his child and the first thing he did was leave. For somebody else, it would have been their cue to go. But here you were, instead of feeling all the right things you should be feeling, still waiting for him.
If your calculations were right, it was another hour before Sidney finally came home. You turned away from the bedroom door and pretended to be asleep. He was quiet but his presence said otherwise. There wasn’t much movement being that Sidney was stoned at the door looking across the room. Looking at you.
Out of all the years that the two of you have spent together, this was the first time he actually did not feel like coming home.
Instead of the comfort he’s always felt each time he opened the door to your shared bedroom, Sidney felt unsure. It was as if he almost did not want to come home at all. Because you, who once brought him peace, was the very person who handed onto him a havoc served on a silver plate.
Sidney no longer minded the fact that he knew you waited for him. He knew you were still awake yet the first thing he chose to do was head towards the bathroom. The clear cut sound of the door coming to a close sends shivers down your spine. You try blinking it away, but the tears just start coming.
When the bathroom door opens, you squeeze your eyes shut knowing what’s to come next. It was a while before Sidney decided to come to bed. You feel it shift with the weight of having Sidney in it.
Normally, his arms would magically snake its way to your body and lock you in an embrace. That was the only way for Sidney to get a comfortable sleep. Now, he stares at the ceiling for a good minute or so before he shifts and looks at the back of your head.
He did not want to say a thing though he felt like he needed to.
It was wrong for him to feel this way. He knew that. But now that he’s conflicted, Sidney knows he’s going to have to give himself some time. Perhaps, even some time away. From this house. From you.
He takes a deep breath; long but subtle. The one you make when you’re trying to calm yourself before diving off a cliff. Sidney wishes he could come out of his. To be able to swim back to his surface. Because as hard as it was to admit, you were drowning him.
“Will you ever change your mind?” he breaks the ice and asks.
Despite being nervous to what his answer might be, you return the question.
“Will you change yours?”
He doesn’t say a word. And with that, you knew Sidney’s silence was his answer.
You do the same.
Though there was something he did want to let you know.
I don’t want to have to lose you.
But instead, he says, “I don’t want to lose you.”
You stifle a sob as a tear meets your pillow.
You didn’t answer. You didn’t answer not because you didn’t want to. You didn’t answer because you were afraid that you couldn’t think of any.
You hate to think you’d have to lose one another over the very thing that was supposed to make the two of you whole. The truth is, you were scared about so many things. You just didn’t know you’d have to be scared about losing Sidney.
𖥸
A few days have passed since you and Sidney got to talking. It was barely one being that all you’ve done was fight. It was already more than just an argument and time has been nothing but cruel in letting you know that the sudden change you see in him now is his way of telling you that the both of you are not and will never be on the same page.
Sidney chose to drown himself more in his Summer commitments. The last thing you heard he was off signing brand deals and staying a lot longer at the club. Now, while he’s busy playing in between putts and pucks, you’ve gone to another appointment and have been taking good care of yourself and your baby to the best of your abilities.
You were at the task of putting away the lillies you have bought on your way home when you hear Sidney’s car enter the driveway. It would not be long before he opens the door. You have not really thought of what to say to him. As much as you try to understand where he’s coming from, you badly hope he does the same thing to you and simply honor what’s already on the table.
The sound of keys being tossed onto the bowl rings throughout the hallway; commencing Sidney’s arrival. You see him enter the room in his usual golfing attire, lugging his equipment behind him.
You have not felt the thick air of uncertainty for a while and you realize it was because he was not around. You offer him a tight-lipped smile once you meet his eyes.
“Hey, you.” you call for him in a tone that lets him know you were open to talk should he want to discuss things with you.
Sidney declines your invitation through his own, “Hi.”
You feel a pang in your chest so you try and make up for it by putting the rest of the mess sitting on the island away. Sidney, on the other hand, sees what you’re trying to do. Nevertheless, he ignores it. Instead, he makes his way around you, heading towards the fridge to get a drink.
You give up.
“Is this really how you want things to be when you come home?” you ask.
Sidney sighs, letting your words sit in the air. He lets the sound of the water hitting the glass mock you as an answer. You watch him drink its entirety with a stern face, unbothered to even look you in the eye.
A month ago you can’t even picture him behaving like this. Time is fickle, so they say. But it is just as unpredictable and brutal.
“Sid,” you call, failing to mask the sound of your voice nearly breaking. Of course, you were desperate to have a decent conversation with him. You miss him. And even though you know you would not change your mind anymore, the best thing you can do is to at least have the chance to change his.
“Don’t you have anything to say to me?” you reach for his hand to hold it.
For a moment, you see his eyes soften. He looks down on your hands. You were scared that he was going to dismiss you but much to your relief, Sidney held your hand instead. He tenderly rubbed the back of your hand whilst he tried to find the words to utter.
This was one of the things you miss. Sidney’s touch. He’s always had a way with it. Nothing really mattered for as long as Sidney held you. You felt so secure – safe from anything that may come your way. For as long as you were with Sidney, you needn’t have to feel scared.
Just when you feel a sliver of hope, you see a somber expression in his face the moment you look back at him.
“I don’t have anything new to say.” he nearly apologizes.
Disappointment now printed all over yours, you choose to let him know of what kept you busy.
“I went to Claire and got a sonogram.” you tell him, forcing out a smile.
You opted not to get one the first time despite Claire’s advice. You wanted to have Sidney with you in that room. But now, it was painfully clear that it might never happen. Not to mention the fact that his child is continuing to grow regardless of what he had to say about it.
Sidney gladly lets your hand go so as to caress his nape. When he falls silent, you continue nonetheless.
“The baby is healthy.” you add.
Shrugging the latter off, he asks, “What about you?”
He still cared about you. At least that was there.
Is it really too much to wish he’d feel the same way for his child?
“I’m fine.” you answer, uninterested with your own well-being.
Sidney says nothing else but nods, dismissing whatever you still have to say concerning his unborn child.
“Won’t you at least see it?” you try for yet another time.
Sidney’s jaw clenches but he chooses to let it go. He didn’t come home to fight.
He pays you a meaningful look, devoid of the fact that the said sonogram was already pinned on the fridge along with a few old polaroids that the two of you intentionally kept for each other’s sake.
“I told you, I don’t have anything new to say.” he repeats himself. “And I still won’t even if I see it.”
It was clear that the two of you were trying to make ends meet. But Sidney was not trying hard enough.
“Then what are we doing here?”
You were offended, of course. You were utterly hurt by his appalling insensitiveness. Sidney did not give even an inch of care but that shouldn’t justify acting too much of an ass about it.
“Am I supposed to wait for you to change your mind before I continue carrying your child?” you continue, “I’m pretty sure pregnancy doesn’t work that way, Sid.”
Do you take him for a fool? He thinks.
You touched a nerve, causing Sidney to lose himself again.
“Who even told you I wanted one?” he retorted.
What does he think would happen after sex? A gala? A dinner party?
You need not stress on the obvious. Besides, doing so would just take you miles down the surface you’ve barely even scratched. Dealing with a closed-minded Sidney and piling on his share of negativity would just be counterproductive.
“I’m not changing my mind, Sidney.” you firmly state.
The time Sidney was gone did not make you want the things he wanted. It just made you certain – so sure, that you want nothing else but this baby. And you know there was no other way out.
“Are you with me on this or not?”
He scoffs at the thought of you making him choose.
“You’d really go that far, wouldn’t you?”
“That far?” you scorn.
“Sidney, that ‘far’ we happened to be discussing right now, is a life together!” you stress, pointing a finger at his chest. “So, yes. I am willing to go that far.”
Sidney could not find the words to save his own cause. But regardless of the problem he still hopes you can set aside, he knows that you will eventually come to your senses and choose the life that you were already living with him.
However, the wounds were barely even healed and here you were, deciding to pick at it again.
“I told you to come back only when you’re ready to be an adult about this and face it with me.” you order. “I don’t need you starting a fight because you know I will never change my mind.”
“Well, you know what? Neither will I.” Sidney shakes his head, adamant to bow down in favor of your will.
“There. I said it.” he adds, thinking of the night you told him about your pregnancy.
He sees your eyes watering and he knew it would be enough for you to pull him back in. But this wasn’t like the other times. You wanted different things and he did too. Maybe that’s how it should be. Maybe it isn’t worth prolonging what has clearly ended.
“You’re right.” he says, “I shouldn’t have come home in the first place.”
Suffice it to say that he did not deserve to feel half of what you have been feeling, you hold him back once he starts retreating.
“W-Where are you going?”
“Geno’s.” He shortly answers. “I cannot be on board with something you chose to decide all on your own.”
You fall silent as it was not the response you were expecting, especially not from Sidney. So instead of speaking for you and his unborn child, you watch him leave once again.
𖥸
Sidney made sure he was kept preoccupied for a reason. It was evident that you were making him choose. And despite him denying, he is certain that regardless of the path he’d be taking, you’ll choose to have the baby and leave the life you have already built with him.
He hated the possibility that you might leave him for something that was unplanned. Something that could have been prevented by a birth control shot. But no, it didn’t. It frustrates him that you won’t take the only ‘out’ he’s got to offer. It frustrates him even more to know that regardless of your choice, he just could not see himself being tied up to a commitment he knows he will never want.
Yes, he may have wanted and hoped for a life with you but that was it. Only you. He did not need anything more. On top of it all, he’s scared. He’s scared because he knows that he almost hated you for it.
You have reached an impasse and you and Sidney both know it. It was just a matter of who’s going to be the one to break it to the other. He doesn’t want to be the one to do so, hence why he chose to leave.
Sidney was a man that loved calculation. Everything had to be precise. Otherwise meant having to give a shot at failure. That was how he felt for the majority of his career. He did excel at school but it did not challenge him. It took less energy and made him less driven. He wanted to acquire so much and be so much more within so little time. Wishful thinking and ambitions aside, he made everything he wanted happen.
He just wishes he could figure this one out before it’s too late.
Geno had his feet up on the couch, hands were glued on the game controller, yelling at the TV. It was another game that he had one of Anna’s nephews teach him. He had nothing to do for the entire day and he was a firm believer that wasting time was not really wasted – only if you make it count.
The count, if you dare ask, was a 2-4 game versus some kid on the internet. N8Dawg29.
Geno’s shouting at the TV was put to a stop when the doorbell rang.
“Lucky bastard.” he says, throwing the controller elsewhere.
Given the moment’s notice, he wasn’t expecting anyone. He had no idea who it was at the other side of the door. By the time he opens it, Sidney’s face comes into view.
“Sid!” he says his name with a giant smile on his face. The very same smile that was washed away by the look Sidney had on his. Lost.
What brings you here? was what he wanted to ask. But given the way his friend looked, it was apparent that something big was bothering him.
“What’s wrong?”
Concern traveled to Geno’s eyes when Sidney spoke of your name as an answer.
“Is she alright?” he asks him, opening the doors of his home wide for Sidney.
Sidney looks him in the eye and says, “She’s pregnant.”
As the brand new information hit him, Geno begins to realize that such news might not have been well-received by Sidney.
Uncomfortable and panicking as to how he’d make light of the situation, Geno asks, “Who’s the father?”
𖥸
Geno knew he needed reinforcement. N8Dawg29 would have to wait.
No, it wasn’t because Geno was losing. It was because he had more important things to tend to. Let him leave it at that.
Two crystal clear snifter glasses were pinched in between his fingers whilst his other hand held a bottle of premium scotch. He takes long strides across the room, making his way towards the lesser halves of the Pittsburgh Penguins’ three-headed monster.
The Captain had just broken the news to Kris, but unlike Geno, the defenseman took his time before sharing his two cents. Sidney spared no detail as to what happened. The truth that he didn’t want a baby, and the ugly truth that you did.
Just like how he looked in front of Geno, the expression on Sidney’s face was more than enough for Kris to deduce that congratulations weren’t in order. Despite him being happy to learn about your pregnancy, Kris just couldn’t let Sidney feel as though his feelings were invalid.
Quietly, whilst the biggest names of the team sat together, the weight of the elephant in the room was still borne solely by the team’s captain. Once each of them was able to take a sip from their respective glasses, it was Kris’ turn to ask a question.
“Does she really intend to keep the baby?”
Sidney nods as the alcohol runs down his throat.
“Actually, she made me choose,” he says. “–said she’d do it with or without me.”
“Are you going to let her?”
Sid meets Kris’ eyes, “What would you have me do?”
Kris takes a deep breath, conflicted as to whether he was in the position to say what’s in his mind. “You know it really doesn’t matter what I think. It is still your decision.”
“Of course, it matters.” Sidney counters. You’re a father. He wanted to add.
“What is it that you want to hear from me?”
“Just hit me. Tell me how you feel. I can handle it.”
“All right,” Kris puts down his glass thereafter clasping his hands. “Are you a hundred percent sure that you don’t want to be a Dad?”
Sidney finds it hard to answer. But he knows it wasn’t because there may be a slight chance that he would eventually want to be one. It was mainly because he knew saying it out loud would paint him in a bad light. He can’t afford to look selfish in front of his friends.
Kris questions, “So, you’re telling me you haven’t pictured yourself with a child? Ever?”
“Of course, I have. It’s just– I don’t want to have one now.” Sidney feels like a fool for saying it out loud. “You know I love kids. I have always been great with them. You know how I am with Alex, right?”
Sidney looks at Geno once he speaks but all Geno did was avoid his gaze. Even he didn’t favor how Sidney had to bring up his godson as an example.
Instead, Geno asks, “Then what is the problem?”
“I don’t think I can be a good father. I’m afraid I’d screw it up.” Sidney fiddles with his fingers.
“How can you be so sure you won’t be a good father?”
Sidney sighs, “How did you know?”
“No one knows they’re going to be a kick-ass Dad until they become one.” Kris says. “I couldn’t even figure out how diapers work the first time I had to do it, but that didn’t stop me from wanting to be a good Dad.”
Sidney runs a hand through his naked hair. “Maybe that’s it.”
Kris’ eyebrows furrow, waiting for Sidney to continue.
“How can I be good at something I don’t even want to become?” He looks at both of his greatest friends.
He continues. “It’s different with you and Catherine, Kris. You both wanted Alex. You both wanted kids. I’m not quite sure I can even begin to like the idea of having my own and yet, here it is – already tearing me and Y/N apart.”
Kris takes a deep breath.
With his words subtly laced with judgment, he says, “There is only one thing you can do.”
“What?” Sidney raises a brow.
“You have to let her go.” Kris continued. “Even if it means she’d have to do it alone.”
Kris respects Sidney for not wanting to have a child. He knows he’d have to understand where Sidney’s at in life. If he says he’s not ready to father a child, then so be it. But that does not give him a pass on being a selfish prick who he’d still have to understand in exchange for you and your unborn child’s sake. You were as important as Sidney is to Kris. He wouldn’t simply allow Sidney to take everything he could while you empty yourself for him.
Sidney asks yet another appalling query.
“Do you really think she’d choose it over me?”
Kris answers with a knowing look on his face, “Any responsible adult would choose a baby over you, Sidney.”
“Kris,” Geno puts his glass down, interfering.
“What does that supposed to mean?” Sidney takes offense.
“What did you expect me to say, anyway? Did you come here expecting I will coddle you? That Geno and I will help you be this irresponsible?” Kris tells him off, switching glances between the two of them.
Geno calls him in a definitive tone. “Tanger, stop.”
“No,” he stressed. “The two of you came to my house asking for my help. Here it is. I am a father. It’s one thing to feel unready for such an immense responsibility. I get that. But, it seems to me that you’re seeing this predicament as a game you just have to win no matter what. That kid isn’t even born yet and here you are, antagonizing him for breaking your relationship. That is your child, Sidney. Your child with the woman you claim to love. Even if you don’t want it, the least you could do is acknowledge that it’s here. It’s not just a thing you have to tolerate.”
Sidney and Geno fall silent.
Kris gathers himself and stands, aiming to leave the room.
“Let her go, Sidney.” he recapitulates. “You know you’re not the person she needs right now.”
𖥸
Three days have gone since Sidney left home. You haven’t gotten enough sleep since then. You’ve tried busying yourself tending to some house chores but none of it sufficed. Tiring yourself did not help in your pursuit to keep your mind from thinking of him.
As much as you wanted to, regardless of your doctor’s orders, you just can’t function bearing a magnitude as heavy as the one you’re facing with Sidney, hanging over your head. Here you are, barely functioning through a day, how could you possibly picture a life without him in it? It seems as though the past is now a blur. But then again, so is your future.
“Hey,” Cath’s voice soothes you from the other end of the line. “How are you?”
You almost forgot that you were on a call with Catherine.
Dissociated, you answer, “I’m… I’m doing okay.”
“Are you sure?” she asks for the hundredth time.
For the past three days, you’ve always answered that you were. Perhaps, it was for you to save face in the hopes of seeing Sidney again.
“No.” you finally admit despite Catherine already knowing, “I’m trying.”
“I know you are.” she says.
It seems as though she wanted to say something else but didn’t know how. Sidney, apart from staying with the Malkin’s has gotten the liking of dropping by her house to see her husband. It had been a day since the first time they had talked about you. Catherine knew little of it but she knew Kris didn’t exactly agree with whatever Sidney had told him.
Finally, she lets out a sigh, “Listen, Sidney’s here.”
Your heart skips a beat at the mere mention of his name. With a glint of hope in your voice, you ask to confirm. “He is? How is he?”
“Well, to be honest, not good.”
You find comfort at the thought. You might still have a relationship worth saving.
“Do you want to speak with him? I can–” Catherine offers but you’re quick to decline. Maybe some time to himself will do you both good.
“No don’t, Cath. Really, it’s fine.” you say with a sad smile. “Knowing that he’s there is enough.”
Silence sits on the line for a moment. You have always waited for Sidney to come home for the majority of your entire relationship. It didn’t matter if he was gone for days or even more than a week; he came home every time. That thought alone made the wait bearable. Now, the uncertainty of it all just makes the wait longer because unlike before, you’re no longer sure he’ll be coming home.
“Have you been taking care of yourself?” Cath pulls you back from your thoughts. The truth is, you haven’t.
“Have you been eating? What about your medications? Are you taking them?”
“Well, yeah. I am. I am taking them.” Sometimes on an empty stomach. Sometimes you miss it by an hour or two.
“Have you slept at all today?”
“I… Not really. I haven’t been sleeping well. There’s a lot going on in my mind.” you say as your eyes flicker to your surroundings. You then realize that the chaos in your mind has begun to translate into your home. Your sight eventually falls onto the load of dishes you’ve yet to tend to and others already cleaned waiting to be put away.
“I know. But you need to take it easy.” she reminds you. Catherine has a point.
“Please take care of yourself, Y/N.” you hear her sigh. “Your baby needs you.”
“Thank you. I appreciate it.” you earnestly tell her, adding that Claire’s stopping by in an hour or two. “A friend is coming over to keep me company tonight. You’ve got nothing to worry about.”
However, just as you stand whilst talking, you feel a sudden surge of sharp pain in your abdomen.
You find yourself holding your lower stomach, unsure if it was something to be concerned about. Claire has informed you about the minor discomforts you were inevitably going to feel as your body adjusts to being pregnant, but was it supposed to hurt this much?
Catherine calls your name when you failed to answer.
“Yeah?”
You start to walk, aiming towards the kitchen. Your palm rests on your abdomen in an attempt to relieve yourself of the pain you were still feeling.
You hold the phone with a bit more pressure, you hear Cath ask, “How are you really? You know you can tell me stuff. I know it must have been tough having to deal with Sid.”
You sigh in an effort to alleviate the pain. Your eyes begin to water by the mention of his name. It has been tough for you. If Cath could see it, how come Sidney couldn’t?
“I miss him, Catherine.”
“I know you do.” she replies sympathetically.  “How can I help you?”
“I don’t know.” you reply as your breath becomes labored. “Just– , please tell him to come home.”
You shut your eyes, pressing on your stomach once you reached the counter.
“We need him.”

Was Kris right? Sidney was deep in thought as the paddle hit the ball from one end of the table to another. Geno hits it right back. Sidney does the same. They go on and on uttering no words but mere sighs and labored breathing as they play the game of table tennis.
Even if Kris was right, he knew it was still going to be Sidney’s decision. If you yourself could not convince him of the life he so clearly does not want, what makes Kris think he can do otherwise?
Despite the heated conversation, Sidney was still thankful Kris had a gym in his basement. He needed to clear his mind; something Geno understood. Sidney rarely gets upset, but most of the times he did, it was for the right reasons. Now, however, Geno wasn’t sure.
“What are you thinking, Sid?” Geno asks as he recovers after missing the ball.
Through his still labored breathing, Sidney puts the paddle down and briefly looks at him. He shakes his head, not devoid of a single thought - but overwhelmed by millions of it concerning: you.
When he doesn’t hear a word from Sidney, he finally asks, “It’s been three days. Don’t you want to come home?”
Sid plays it off with a grin, “Why? You’re getting sick of me?”
Geno rolls his eyes, “Yes, what are you gonna do about it?”
The two of them share a brief laugh, trying to lighten the weight bore by the topic of you.
“I don’t know, man.” This time, Sidney tells him the truth. He does not know. He had hoped to know by being away from you. But if asked the same question of whether he wants the life that you do, he still has the same answer.
Before he can say another word, Geno speaks as if he read Sidney’s mind.
“If it’s not entirely a yes, it’s a no, Sid.” he tells him. “You’ve got only two ways out of this. To stay or to leave.”
Sidney’s taken aback.
To stay would mean to live a life off his books; blind and unplanned. He’d be traversing an environment completely foreign and unknown. To have a child of his own. To have a family. Forever.
And on the other, to leave would mean to accept the gut-wrenching picture of a life without you; to embrace it through and through. And maybe hope that someday, it will eventually get easier.
Before Sidney could even answer, the Letangs came rushing into the room.
“We gotta go,” Kris announces with urgency, the key to his car already in his hand.
Sidney’s eyes fall onto a frantic Catherine who was clutching onto her phone - voice trembling as she says, “It’s Y/N.”
𖥸
Sidney has never feared anything in his life. Between having to leave home at such a young age and thereafter fighting the horrible concussions that cost him almost fifty games off of his career, he has never felt as frightened as he did when it was you who was already on the line. He admits that he was not in the right mind to deal with what you have told him, but the fear of losing you was so insurmountable that it made being a father seem less terrifying than he could have possibly imagined.
“Where is she?”
“Is she okay?”
“Have you seen Claire?”
Wanting to breathe became obsolete once Sidney chose to speak all aforementioned. He held Cath’s shoulder, almost shaking her, in an attempt to get an answer.
“Claire took care of everything. She’s fine.” she says, relaying what Claire had told her.
He lets go a sigh of relief. He runs his fingers through his evidently unkempt hair – and asks, “What about the baby?”
If the record was right, it was the first time he’s ever asked about your baby.
Despite how Cath felt about Sidney, she did not simply have the answer.
Worriedly, he walks past her and looks through the small window of the lounge door. He sees a handful of people, mostly visitors. Sure – there were doctors going from one side of the room to the other wearing their coats and clipboards in hand, talking. Always talking. Giving out information, whether well-received or heart piercing. It was a whole ‘nother job that seemed so ordinary. A whole lot more than what is perceived.
Sidney wanted to go to you. He wanted to find you. But how can he do that if doing so would mean causing more risks than he’s already had? Because even if it was the least of his worries, Sidney could not possibly handle more attention from the crowd.
It was exactly the ugliness you had to bear being with Sidney. Being with him meant having to consider who he was inside and outside of the rink; that your personal life is inevitably tangled with the one he had with his skates on. There was no double life with Sidney. He has successfully integrated the two so he gets to live both. As for you, you were the tide that went along with it — the tide that kept his boat afloat.

Claire hoped she wouldn’t be spending the night in the hospital. But then came you.
She was glad she still had the spare key you’ve given her to your home. Between scrambling to find it amidst her million other keys and finding you sitting on the cold floor of the kitchen, holding your stomach, with blood apparent in your clothing, Claire was just glad that she got to you the soonest you needed her to.
“My baby–” was the first thing you told her as you tried speaking in between sobs.
You looked at her, tears running down your cheeks, once she had approached you.
“It’s alright. I got you. I got you.” she repeatedly told you.
Her eyes fell onto where your hand was. Truth be told, she has never been this scared in her life. It was crazy how she simultaneously knew and didn’t know what to do. It was you. Your safety and the life of the child you’ve yet to birth, placed unexpectedly in her hands. Despite all that, she was certain that she’s not about to lose anyone. Neither you nor your baby.
“Please don’t pass out.” she murmured more to herself as she held your face. “Stay with me, alright? You guys are gonna be okay. You’ll be okay.”
Claire stayed true to her word and took care of you. You were settled in a private room, resting. It was evident that all the emotional and physical turmoil you’ve been trying to suppress has finally caught on and got the better hold of you. Scarily so, despite the night’s ordeal, you were now safe. You and the baby.
You were asleep when Claire left you in your hospital room. She still has a few of your documents that needed sorting out. Well, that and having to deal with the man – with both of his hands placed on his waist, pacing – waiting for her at the end of the lobby.
“How is she?” Sidney asks Claire the moment he was within hearing distance.
She ignores him. Instead, she goes inside the waiting room and acknowledges the presence of Catherine alongside Kris and Evgeni.
“How is she?” Catherine shoots the same question.
Claire initially answers with a nod then proceeds, “She’s going to be fine. We just need to let her get some rest.”
Cath nods as well as the others.
“And the baby?”
Claire doesn’t give a definite answer.
“We’re still waiting for several results.”
“W-Why?” Sidney jumps in the conversation. “Did something happen to the baby?”
Unfortunately, as much as Claire wanted to hit Sidney’s face, she couldn’t. She wasn’t in the hospital just because she’s your friend. Simply put, duty calls. And right now, Sidney demands her of it.
“I am not at liberty to disclose anything at the moment, but I assure you, we are doing the best we can.” she tells Sidney despite not meeting his eyes.
“Will you at least let me see her?” He pleads.
“I don’t think so.” she states firmly.
“What– Why?” Sidney asks quite defensively. “I am her emergency contact person!”
“No, you are not.” she informs him. “You cannot see her files because you are no longer her emergency contact person. I am now. You are neither her next of kin nor are you married. And if you are present as any partner should have, you would know.”
Sidney scoffs, “That’s bullshit.”
“You are not my patient, Sid. I am in no way responsible for disclosing information Y/N clearly doesn’t want to share with you.”
“You don’t expect me to believe that, do you?” Sidney complains.
“I have nothing to say to you.” Claire tells him.
“I can’t believe how unprofessional you can be!” Sidney exclaims when Claire continues to ignore his requests.
“No,” She looks at him for a moment, gets back to reading your form on her clipboard, and meets Sid’s eyes once again. “It’s the consequences.”
“You’re unbelievable.”
The Letangs come in between the two to mitigate the tension, “We’ll just wait for as long as we need to.”
“Why? What’s the plan, Sid? Huh? Isn’t this what you wanted? To spend your years like Jagr?”
“Don’t you fucking go there.” He warns.
Even more appalled by Sidney’s reaction, Claire grins and shrugs shamelessly before walking away.
“I think I just did.”
𖥸
Sidney did not exactly know how he did it and how fast he had done it, but as soon as Claire had her hands full, he went straight to grab the brass metal of the door knob leading to your room.
Quietly, as he spared one last glance of his surroundings, he turns it and opens the door.
It was perhaps a good thing that your bed was not adjacent to the doorway. Sidney could not fully comprehend the things wrecking his brain all at once. Although he knew of one thing: he finally gets to see you.
It was indeed a good thing that your bed was not adjacent to the doorway. Your mind drifts right off the tip of your finger as you look outside your window. The fog was so even and misty that it made the entire window a blur. The only thing you could see were the steady white lights of that huge corner block building fashioned by the noise of cars driving off to a better place than the four corners of your hospital bedroom.
Judging by the scenery, you could tell that it was well past midnight.
As you lie with your still aching heart, you find yourself grazing your stomach ever so gently as if you were holding something– someone, much more meaningful than your entire being.
If only he was–
“Hey.”
He is.
Sidney had both of his hands resting on his side alienated by the thick air he usually causes. It was a battle as to whether to go near you or stay still. But judging by the way you looked at him so strangely, he knew he didn’t have any other choice.
You watch him inch himself closer until he is already at the foot of the bed. He looked unusually small for a man of his stature. Your eyes did not miss a thing. You saw the hesitant look he had coupled with the urgency that is perhaps all too late to be paraded before your eyes.
Despite noticing all that, in Sidney’s eyes, you did nothing but look. He was scared not because it made him uneasy. He was scared because you have never looked at him that way.
There are so many things to be said but Sidney was at a loss for words. He wanted to ask how you were; how the baby was. He wanted to say how sorry he felt for leaving and how dumb it was to let you suffer when he could’ve been there like he should have. He wanted to let you know how badly he prays and hopes that you’ll find it in yourself to forgive him. But mostly, he just really wished that you’d still want to make it work and build that family – with him.
How could he say all that when it feels like you were miles away beyond his reach despite him already holding your hand?
Finally, as though the words have only occurred to him, he asks, “How are you?”
He looks back at you as intently as he thought you did. However, your eyes mirrored his, unwillingly. Sidney takes the empty seat beside your bed; never letting go of his hold on you.
Soon enough, you look away and aim your attention onto his hands. Both of his palms embraced your hand oh so desperately, pleading a prayer only he could hear.
“I’m sorry.” he says, eyes now misty with tears. “It’s all my fault. I should’ve been with you. I’m sorry. I was selfish. Please please forgive me.” he adds, pressing wet and much more desperate kisses on your hand.
He waited for you to say something in return but he received nothing. You looked at him exactly the way you did when he arrived; sparing him a blink or two whenever your eyes got tired.
It was the kind of silence Sidney wasn’t accustomed to. It was the kind of silence he never knew.
Until now. Until you.
His voice breaks when he decides to speak yet again.
“Please say something.” he desperately asks.
But you don’t.
You just lie in the same cold bed, letting him hold your hand.
Afraid of what has become you, Sidney masks his fear with a wide smile albeit it didn’t do any better. It just made him feel worse. Maybe even a thousand times more than he’s already had.
“Mon amour” he calls you. “Please talk to me.”
You blink and look away.
Sorrow now filling the void he feels from within, Sidney sees your hand that was still resting atop your stomach.
For the first time, he then dared to ask, “How… How's the baby?”
Sidney sees you look at him yet again as if to finally acknowledge his presence in the room.
However, the words you spoke next nearly made him wish you did not bother at all.
“There is no baby, Sidney.”
You spit the words like vile coursing from your throat; voice hoarse from the eventful night.
“W-What?” he stammers, evidently shocked at your uninhibited way of revealing such news.
“There is no baby.” you repeat just as you remove your hand from his hold.
“You may go.” you quietly add, looking away.
Confused, off-guard, and terrified, Sidney tries to grasp the thought of the truth.
“What do you mean there is no baby?” Sidney begins to flood you with queries. “They must have read the tests wrong. It can’t be right, can it? Claire told Cathy everything was fine! We do have a baby!” he nearly grovels trying to get a hold of you, pleading.
“We have a baby, y/n.” He breaks. “We’re going to be a family.”
Oh you’d kill to have him say those words when you needed him to. Only he didn’t. And that is the truth you’re now choosing.
“I need you to go, Sidney.” you respond calmly, frustrating him even more.
“Please, y/n!” he cries. “What happened to our baby?”
“It’s gone, alright!” you lose it just as Sidney’s world begins to crumble, “You got what you wanted!”
You blink away the tears about to break just as you say, “I need you to go because I don’t want to do this anymore.”
“No– There’s got to be another way for us. We always find a way.”
“I don’t want to do this anymore, Sidney.” you reiterate. “I don’t think we should be together.”
“You’re just saying that because you’re mad at me,” he argues. “Just be mad at me, y/n!”
He grabs your hand and places it close to his cheek. You can feel the tears on his skin and his desperate cry to escape the inevitable.
You look at him with the same fondness you once had. The last he’ll ever see.
“It’s over, Sid.” you declare. “I don’t want this– I don’t want to be with you.”
“Y/N… please,” he says. “I’m begging you.”
“Leave, Sidney.” you reach for the red button on the side of your bed, hoping to get Claire.
Sidney’s tears continue to fall. But you no longer care.
“I can’t do this without you.” he says in between sobs.
You press the red button repeatedly. You wipe your tears away wishing Claire would get to you faster.
“Please don’t end us.” he says, knees already on the cold hospital floor; a complete mess. “Please don’t make me leave.”
Before you can push him further away, the door to your room abruptly opens; Kris and Geno come into view.
With a firm yet cautious voice, Geno calls him. “Sidney.”
Kris puts an arm over Sidney’s shoulder, “Let her get some rest.”
“Y/N–” Sidney calls for you once more; bearing with him the thought of losing his son and his son’s mother. The family you wanted a little too early. The family he wanted a little too late. The painful truth that Sidney chose to carry with him for years however ugly and cruel you made it to be just so he can still make it seem real.
If only he knew.

The Avengers were worried. Your friends and family were concerned. Hell, even your asshole of an ex was worried. It has been months since anyone had seen or heard from you, not since the day of the gathering. The house you and Steve used to live in was burnt to a crisp. Nothing was left. You had just disappeared. Steve ended up getting a couple of bruises and some broken bones that healed from your friends. They knew he was the reason for this.
You stood there, covered in blood and surrounded by dead bodies. You had been minding your own business, wanting to grab some food and return to your cabin, but these men. Oh, these men. Why did they have to think they were better than you? Why couldn’t they have minded their own business and left you alone? Was their entire species built on invading a woman’s life? Could they not just fuck off. You were so annoyed, looking around at the pathetic beings that lay bloody and lifeless. “Men.” You growl quietly before bending down to grab your bags full of food and return to where you call home. You guess this could be a time to think about everything you have done and that has happened.
Sure, burning your house down was probably a bit over the top. But you wanted to get rid of the memory of Steve, and that was the only thing you could think of at the time. Some may call you childish or crazy for how you dealt with your emotions, but you couldn’t find it in yourself to care anymore. You had spent years in a relationship with a man who was stuck in the past, who had thought you were only meant to cook, clean and bear his children. Steve didn’t really love you, he just wanted to use you, and it took him behaving like a child and throwing a tantrum for you to see he wasn’t meant for you.
It doesn’t mean you can’t have a little fun. In the end, you did love him. He did have a piece of your heart. The woman inside of you was grieving and hurting. She begged you to forgive him, make him see you were meant for him. But you were stronger than her. You know that no man could ever treat you like that. You know he wasn’t right for you, and you were on a war path. You groaned as you walked up the stairs and onto your porch. Making your way into your house, you walk past everything and to the kitchen, where you place the bags down. “Hello, people who do not live here.” You hum, facing your old team members, who look shocked as you are covered in blood.
“Y/n?” Nat steps forward, looking you up and down, trying to determine if the blood is yours. You nod, digging into the bag and pulling out your food. You reach over and grab a fork as you begin to dig in.
“That’s my name.” You give a sarcastic smile, chewing on your food. Your eyes move over everyone before focusing on your ex. “What’s he doing here? I thought you were too busy finding someone else to put up with your shit? Ya know…” You jump up onto the counter, swinging your legs as you glare. “Someone who would make a better mother than I would.” You smile before stuffing more food into your mouth, humming at its taste.
Tony tilts his head, making his way over to you, unafraid. “You’ve changed.” His eyes move over your face, and yours connect with him. He smiles. “I like it.” He pulls you into a hug, “I missed you, kid.” You smile, patting his back.
“Missed you too, dumbass.” He pulls back, and the rest of the Avengers make their way over to hug you, letting you know how much they’ve missed you and how worried they’ve been. “So… Whatcha doing here? I won’t ask how you found me because that’d be a stupid question.”
“As we said, we were worried.” Nat tilts her head, “were you attacked?” You shrug, chewing your food more. “Y/n?”
“Sorta, I guess? I don’t know. Men don’t know how to mind their business.” Your focus moves to the container in your hand, barely noticing the looks they give each other. “Yes, I killed them, and it’s not that big of a deal.”
“Not that big of a deal?! You murdered people! See, this is why I said what I said.” Steve growls, staring you down as he tries to make you uncomfortable.
“What is it, asshole day?” You groan, tilting your head back as you feel a headache form. “Yes, Steven. I murdered people, and again, you’ve stated I wouldn’t be a good mother. How about you get over that?” You hum, shovelling more food into your mouth as you stare at him without emotion. You point your fork at him. “Have you ever stopped to think that maybe you're the problem? Maybe you're the one who wouldn’t make a good parent? I mean, let’s face it, you have issues. You can’t even keep anything good in your life, and when you do find something good, you try and destroy it because you are so self-absorbed.” You roll your eyes, ignoring how some team members chuckle as you tear the retired Captain a new one. “You think you're better than any of us? You’ve killed, too. You’ve done worse. So what if I did the world a favour and took out some pathetic men? What are you going to do? What is worse than you ripping my heart out like I meant nothing to you?” You place the food down, hop off the counter and approach him with a glare.
And the dumbass decides to open his mouth. “Well, if you want my opinion–”
“I don’t.” Your glare hardens, jaw clenching as you stop yourself from killing him, especially in front of your friends and family. “I have my own.” Everyone’s breath hitches when you step closer to the towering man. “Now, if you don’t mind. I don’t want trash in my house, so I suggest you find the door before I set you on fire.” You growl lowly, sending shivers up everyone’s spines before you turn and go into your bathroom, needing to get the blood of the useless off of you.
Once you finish showering and changing into comfier clothes, you return and stop when you notice everyone bar one, still here. “Oh, you guys didn’t leave?” You look over and see Wanda preparing a feast in your kitchen while everyone else makes themselves at home around your cabin. You look around to make sure Steve isn’t hiding around a corner. “Huh, I guess trash does know how to take itself out.” Your head turns as you hear Tony laugh, nearly falling out of his seat.
“Oh, kid. You don’t know how much I missed you and your sarcasm.” He sips the very expensive whiskey that you may or may not have stolen from him. “Morgan’s missed you too, especially how you’d teach her your sarcastic ways.” You smile softly, accepting a glass from Natasha as she walks up to you.
“I’ve missed her too. I’m sorry for not rushing over when she got hurt.” You take a sip, leaning into Natasha as she wraps an arm around you.
Tony shrugs. “It’s not your fault. Don’t apologise. She had help plus. She isn’t even your kid. You shouldn’t have to apologise for not rushing to someone else’s kid.” He rubs his forehead, “It’s not your job to do that. Sure, when you are on the field. I get it because that’s our job.” Tony points at you. “Don’t let Captain tightass get to you. You’d be a wonderful mother.”
You smile, “Thanks, Tony. Always one for wise words.” You smile when Wanda comes around and kisses your cheek softly, mentioning that dinner’s ready. You all head over to the table and sit down, feeling a pair of eyes on you. You turn and notice Bucky staring at you with a soft smile. “What’s up, Buck?”
He shakes his head, “nothing. I just want you to know that I tried talking some sense into him, and when he didn’t listen and we found out the truth of your disappearance, we kicked his ass.” You giggle, shaking your head at the image. Bucky flashes a proud smile at making you laugh. He’s happy you’re smiling and loves his best friend, but Steve didn’t deserve someone like you. You deserved the world, and he knew the rest of the team was thinking it.
“Thank you, you guys didn’t have to do that. I know you’ve known him longer than you’ve known me, but I appreciate the love you’ve shown me.” You thank them, feeling loved even though deep down you feel broken. Once dinner was over, they said their goodbyes and left, promising that they’ll come and see you again. You were left alone once again. Left in your thoughts as the broken woman inside you pounded against your heart, she wanted out. She wanted to cry and grieve the relationship you once had. But anger was better than tears, better than grief, better than guilt. You walked into your bathroom and stared at yourself in the mirror. The person staring back at you wasn’t who Steve had left. She was different. “How could you have been so stupid?” You spoke to her, watching her mouth move like yours did. “Why did you fall for him?! Why did you give your heart over?!” You screamed, your fist flying forward and shattering the glass.
You were better off alone. Maybe one day you could open your heart again, and maybe one day you’ll find the person right for you. But right now, you needed to find yourself, find the woman you were without him.

Han Y/n gazed out of the window, her eyes tracing the intricate lines of Seoul's skyline as the plane began its descent. The familiar landscape filled her with a mix of nostalgia and anticipation. It had been years since she had set foot in South Korea, and even longer since she had last been in Seoul, her hometown.
As the plane touched down and taxied towards the terminal, memories flooded her mind. The scent of her mother's cooking, the laughter of her siblings echoing through the corridors of their sprawling estate, and the warmth of her father's guidance – all of it seemed like distant echoes from a life she had left behind.
Han Y/n, the eldest in the Han family, stood at the pinnacle of the family hierarchy. Her father, Han Ji-Min, had built an empire that loomed large over South Korea's corporate landscape. The Marblegold Group was more than just a conglomerate; it was a behemoth, a sprawling empire with tentacles that extended into numerous industries.
At its heart was the Marblegold Hotel, a towering symbol of opulence and prestige in the heart of Busan. But the Marblegold Group's reach went far beyond hospitality. It was a multifaceted business entity, a franchise that encompassed an array of enterprises. Under the Marblegold Group umbrella were shopping centers that rivaled the world's finest, clothing stores that set fashion trends, and an assortment of retail outlets that catered to the desires of the elite.
It was a true economic powerhouse, a name that commanded respect and awe in the business world. And at the center of it all was the battle for control, the quest for the coveted chairman position, the throne of the Han empire.
Of Y/n's siblings and herself, each of them brought their unique talents and ambitions to the table, and their father's approval hung in the balance. The competition was fierce, a high-stakes game played on the grandest of stages, where the winner would wield unparalleled influence over the Han family's vast empire.
However, she had chosen a different path and her sole focus wasn't on gaining the chairman position of Marblegold. After leaving behind the opulent halls of her family's estate for the bustling streets of New York at such a young age, Y/n stayed to completing her undergraduate studies, and Master's in Business Administration. The allure of independence and the thrill of carving her own path had kept her away from home for far longer than she had initially planned.
But now, as the plane came to a complete stop and the seatbelt sign blinked off, Y/n knew that her journey had come full circle. She had received a phone call a few days ago – a call that had jolted her out of her American routine and thrust her back into the world she had left behind. It was her father's voice on the other end, grave and unyielding, informing her of a family emergency that required her immediate presence.
Han Y/n stepped onto the tarmac from the private family jet, her attire a seamless blend of luxury and American style with a touch of modest Korean elegance. The meticulously curated ensemble exuded a quiet confidence that spoke of her years abroad in the United States.
She wore a tailored ivory pantsuit crafted from the finest silk, the jacket expertly cut to accentuate her figure while maintaining a professional edge. The slim-fit trousers elongated her legs, and the subtle sheen of the fabric caught the sunlight, creating an ethereal glow around her. The crisp lines of the suit were juxtaposed by a pastel peach silk blouse with a high neckline, embracing her Korean roots while adopting a hint of Western refinement.
Her accessories were subtle yet unmistakably opulent. A delicate gold necklace adorned her neck, its pendant glinting as it caught the light. The matching gold bracelet on her wrist whispered of her family's affluence. A pair of understated pearl earrings lent a touch of classic elegance, while her fingers showcased an heirloom ring that spoke of generations of Han family heritage.
Y/n's choice of footwear combined comfort and style – a pair of sleek nude pumps that added height without sacrificing practicality. Her hair, long and glossy, was swept into a sophisticated updo that showcased her delicate features and the graceful curve of her neck.
Though she exuded an air of confidence, her outfit was a reflection of her individuality – a blend of cultures and experiences that had shaped her. As she made her way through the airport terminal, her steps were purposeful, her head held high. People turned their heads, drawn by her commanding presence and the seamless fusion of elegance from both sides of the world. The whispers of silk, the glint of gold, and the aura of poise all came together to paint a portrait of Han Y/n – a woman who carried herself with the regality of her heritage, the assurance of her education, and the strength of her determination.
Y/n retrieved her carry-on bag from the overhead compartment and joined the stream of passengers disembarking the plane. She could feel a mixture of emotions swirling within her – uncertainty, apprehension, but also a strange sense of curiosity. She had been away for so long, and her family dynamics had undoubtedly evolved during her absence.
Walking through the airport terminal, Y/n's steps were steady, her demeanor composed. She had learned to carry herself with a certain poise in the corporate world, a skill that served her well as she navigated the bustling crowd. As she approached the arrivals area, she could see a driver holding a sign with her name. She nodded in acknowledgment, her heart starting to race as she realized that this was it – the moment of her return.
"Wow, Mr. Gu, you look like you haven't aged a day," she remarked with a warm smile as she approached the driver. It was true; Mr. Gu had been the family driver for as long as she could remember, and he still had the same kind eyes and friendly smile.
Mr. Gu's face lit up with genuine delight as he bowed respectfully. "Welcome back, Miss Y/n. It's wonderful to have you home."
The drive to the family estate was a mix of familiarity and novelty. The streets of Seoul had changed in subtle ways, but the essence of the city remained unchanged. Y/n's gaze drifted over familiar landmarks, each one bringing back a rush of memories. She could hardly believe that so much time had passed since she last walked these streets.
The sprawling mansion came into view, surrounded by meticulously landscaped gardens and the imposing gates that had always separated the Hans from the outside world. As the car pulled up to the entrance, Y/n felt a surge of memories rush back to her.
She stepped out of the car, her eyes fixed on the grand entrance of her childhood home. The ornate doors opened before her, and she was met with the sight of her family gathered in the lavish foyer. Her three siblings stood before her – Han Ji-Woon, the determined and driven elder son; Han Soo-Min, the shrewd and calculating second daughter; and Han Tae-Jun, the charismatic and charming younger son. They were all dressed impeccably, exuding an air of authority and ambition.
"Noona, you're finally back!" Ji-Woon exclaimed, his voice tinged with a mixture of surprise and relief. He stepped forward and enveloped her in a tight hug.
Y/n smiled, returning his hug warmly. "It's good to see you, Ji-Woon. It's been too long."
Soo-Min's gaze was appraising as she looked Y/n up and down. "You've certainly adapted well to the Western style," she commented, a hint of skepticism in her voice.
Y/n chuckled, not missing the subtle challenge in her sister's words. "Well, living in New York does that to you. How have things been here?"
Tae-Jun grinned, his charm evident as always. "Oh, you know, the usual power struggles and corporate drama. You've missed quite a bit, Noona."
Y/n glanced between her siblings, sensing an undercurrent of tension beneath their greetings. It was as if her return had disrupted the delicate balance of power that had settled in her absence. She knew her siblings well, and she could read the guarded expressions in their eyes.
Soo-Min's smile, while polite, carried an edge of rivalry. Ji-Woon's grip on her arm tightened almost imperceptibly, a sign that he was not entirely thrilled by her return. Even Tae-Jun's easygoing demeanor seemed forced, his charm masking deeper emotions.
Y/n's smile remained poised, but she couldn't ignore the subtle tension. "I've heard bits and pieces about the family dynamics from afar. I can only imagine the drama," she said with a soft chuckle, attempting to diffuse the tension.
Soo-Min's lips quirked into a knowing smile. "You have no idea."
Ji-Woon's tone held a note of challenge. "It's a different world now. You've been away for a long time."
Tae-Jun chimed in, trying to lighten the mood. "But we're all here now, together again. Let's make the most of it."
The atmosphere remained charged as they exchanged pleasantries and caught up on each other's lives. The uneasy undertone persisted, each sibling subtly jockeying for position, their ambition for the chairman position palpable. Y/n navigated the conversation with grace, recognizing the underlying tensions that had simmered to the surface.
Soo-Min's words carried an edge as she inquired, "So, Unnie, have you finally come back to stake a claim in the family business?"
Y/n's smile remained serene. "I'm here for family, Soo-Min. That's always been my priority."
Ji-Woon's gaze turned piercing as he remarked, "Family is important, but so is commitment. Some of us have been carrying the weight of this business on our shoulders."
Tae-Jun interjected, trying to lighten the mood. "Come on, let's not turn this into a confrontation right away. We've all missed Y/n, and I'm sure there's plenty of time for serious discussions later."
Y/n nodded, appreciating Tae-Jun's attempt to ease the tension. But deep down, she knew that her return had sent shockwaves through the carefully constructed power dynamics within the family. She was a wildcard, a variable they hadn't accounted for – a successful woman who had built her own life far from the corridors of power in Seoul.
Y/n navigated the subtle tension that clung to the air, her siblings' scrutinizing gazes like a weight upon her shoulders.
"Where's Father?" she inquired with a measured tone, her gaze shifting between Ji-Woon, Soo-Min, and Tae-Jun.
Ji-Woon's expression was guarded as he replied, "He's in his study. Probably reviewing some important documents."
Soo-Min's eyes held a spark of curiosity, her tone laced with skepticism. "Why do you want to see Father so urgently, Y/n? It's not like you've been in a hurry to return home all these years."
Y/n met her sister's gaze evenly, not betraying any hint of her true motives. "There are matters that I need to discuss with him. Family matters."
Tae-Jun, always one to ease tensions, interjected with a grin, "Well, we wouldn't want to keep you from those pressing family matters, would we? Go on, see Father. We'll catch up later."
As Y/n turned to leave her siblings, she heard them exchange hushed comments under their breath, their snarky remarks echoing in the hallway. She couldn't help but smile at the realization that despite the years that had passed, some things remained unchanged.
"Always the mysterious one, our Y/n," Soo-Min's voice dripped with sarcasm, and Ji-Woon let out a chuckle that seemed more mocking than genuine.
Y/n stopped in her tracks, turning to face her siblings with an arched eyebrow. "And you two? Still as competitive as ever, I see."
Tae-Jun grinned, attempting to defuse the tension. "Come on, don't be too hard on them. It's just been a while since our parents have seen the eldest daughter return from the distant lands of America."
Y/n's lips curved into a sly smile. "Ah, yes. The prodigal daughter returns, and the siblings gather like vultures sensing fresh prey."
Ji-Woon's tone grew serious. "You can't deny that your sudden return has raised questions, Y/n. We've all been through a lot since you left."
Y/n's gaze met Ji-Woon's, and she could see the underlying challenge in his eyes. "I never claimed to be ignorant of the past. But as for my return, you can believe whatever you wish."
Soo-Min's voice turned icy. "We know you too well, Y/n. You've always been the one who manages to escape the family drama while we deal with the consequences."
Tae-Jun, sensing the escalating tension, chimed in, "Let's not start a fight right now. We're all here together after so long. Can't we enjoy a moment of peace?"
Y/n's smile remained enigmatic, her eyes glinting with a mixture of amusement and resolve. "You're right, Tae-Jun. We should cherish this moment. After all, who knows what the future holds?"
With that, she turned and continued down the hallway, leaving her siblings to exchange puzzled glances. As their voices faded behind her, she found herself reflecting on the web of emotions that had always characterized their relationships. The competitive spirit, the simmering rivalries, and the unspoken desires – they were all woven into the fabric of their family dynamics.
Just as Y/n was lost in her thoughts, she heard a warm voice call her name. "Miss Y/n."
Turning, she saw the head maid, Seo Mi-Young, approaching with a gentle smile. Y/n's face lit up, and she moved forward to embrace the older woman.
"Mi-Young, I've missed you," Y/n said, holding the embrace for a moment before pulling back. "How have you been?"
The head maid's eyes twinkled with affection. "I've been well, Miss Y/n. It's good to have you back."
Y/n nodded, feeling a surge of warmth. "Thank you. I'm glad to be back."
Mi-Young's gaze held a knowing depth as she looked at Y/n. "You've grown into a remarkable woman, Miss Y/n. I remember the young girl who used to follow me around, full of curiosity and spirit."
Y/n smiled, a fondness in her eyes. "Those were good times, Mi-Young. You were like a mother to me."
The head maid's smile deepened a hint of emotion in her eyes. "And you were like the daughter I never had."
As they spoke, Y/n could feel the years melting away, the familiarity of Mi-Young's presence wrapping around her like a comforting embrace. She had spent countless hours with the head maid, learning about life, family, and responsibility. Mi-Young had been the one to guide her through her early years, nurturing her with wisdom and love.
Mi-Young cleared her throat gently. "Your parents are in the study. They've been waiting for your return."
Y/n nodded, a mixture of anticipation and trepidation stirring within her. "Thank you, Mi-Young. It's time I spoke to them."
Mi-Young's eyes held a mixture of understanding and support. "Remember, Miss Y/n, your path may have taken you far, but your roots are still here. Your parents love you, no matter how many miles separate you."
With a final smile, Y/n bid her farewell and followed Mi-Young through the corridors. Small talk flowed between them as they walked, the familiar rhythm of their conversations evoking a sense of nostalgia and comfort. Mi-Young's presence was a balm to her soul, a reminder of the family she had left behind.
Y/n stood before the door to her father's study, her heart pounding with a mix of anticipation and anxiety. The weight of the past, the years of separation, and the unspoken expectations hung heavily in the air, creating a tension that seemed almost tangible. She took a deep breath, summoned her resolve, and pushed the door open.
As the door swung open, Y/n's gaze met the sight of her parents seated across from each other – a juxtaposition of warmth and sternness. Her mother, elegant and regal, was the embodiment of grace and welcome. Her eyes lit up as she saw her eldest daughter enter, and a smile spread across her face.
"Y/n, you're finally here," her mother exclaimed, her voice carrying a mixture of joy and relief. She stood up and opened her arms, welcoming Y/n into an embrace that felt like a long-overdue homecoming.
Tears threatened to well up in Y/n's eyes, but she held them at bay. She allowed her mother to wrap her arms around her, standing there stiffly as if a stranger was hugging her. The embrace felt foreign, a reminder of the emotional distance that had always existed between them.
"Mother," Y/n said, her tone polite but distant. "It's been a while."
Her mother's hands tightened for a moment before she released Y/n, her smile faltering slightly. Y/n could see the hurt in her mother's eyes, a flicker of emotion that was quickly concealed.
"Indeed, it has," her mother replied, her voice taking on a more formal tone. "We're glad to have you back."
Y/n's gaze then turned to her father, his stern expression unyielding as ever. She offered a nod in acknowledgment, not bothering with any formalities. Her father's gaze held hers for a moment before he inclined his head in a brief nod.
"Y/n," he said, his voice as measured as ever.
"Father," she replied, her tone equally detached.
The tension in the room was palpable, an unspoken undercurrent that seemed to swirl around them. Y/n could feel the weight of unspoken questions, the expectations that had brought her back, and the uncertainty of what lay ahead.
Her mother's voice broke the silence, her tone light yet with an undercurrent of concern. "Y/n, you've been away for so long. We've missed you."
Y/n's gaze shifted to her mother, and she offered a small smile that didn't quite reach her eyes. "Yes, Mother. It's been an interesting time."
Her mother's eyes softened, her worry evident. "There's much to catch up on. We'll have time to discuss everything."
Y/n nodded, her heart heavy with the knowledge that some conversations would be harder than others. The past, the present, and the future converged in this room, a space that held the echoes of years gone by and the promises of what was yet to come.
As they settled into the conversation, Y/n could feel the weight of her father's gaze upon her, his expectations unspoken yet ever-present. The tension remained, a reminder of the complexities that defined their relationships and the challenges that lay ahead. The room seemed to hold its breath, as if bracing for the decisions that would shape the future of the Han family – decisions that rested in the hands of a woman who had returned, carrying with her the echoes of her past and the hopes of a new beginning.
But as the conversation continued, her father's gaze remained unyielding, his words measured and businesslike. It was as if they were discussing a transaction rather than matters of family and heart. Y/n's mother excused herself with a warm smile, leaving Y/n alone with her father.
Once they were alone, her father stood up and walked to the window, his gaze fixed on the sprawling estate beyond. The tension seemed to thicken, the air heavy with unspoken words.
"Y/n," he began, his voice taking on a more solemn tone, "I'm sure you're wondering why I asked you to return."
Y/n's heart raced as she nodded, her gaze fixed on her father's back. "Yes, Father. I must admit, I was surprised by the urgency of your call."
He remained silent for a moment, his eyes distant as if lost in thought. "You've been away for years, pursuing your education and your career. I've watched you from afar, proud of your accomplishments."
Y/n's confusion deepened. "Thank you, Father, but why call me back now?"
He turned to face her, his expression unreadable. "Y/n, you are the eldest daughter of this family. With that comes certain responsibilities."
Y/n furrowed her brows, uncertainty clouding her features. "Responsibilities? I've always carried out my duties as a Han."
Her father's gaze held hers, unyielding. "There is a matter that requires your attention, a matter of great importance to the family."
Y/n's mind raced, trying to piece together the puzzle of her father's words. "What matter, Father?"
He sighed, the weight of his decision evident in his voice. "Y/n, you need to marry and bring an heir to this family."
The words hung in the air like a heavy cloak, and Y/n's heart skipped a beat. The implications of his statement settled over her like a storm cloud, the realization of what he was asking sinking in.
"Marriage?" she echoed, her voice barely above a whisper. "But... why now?"
Her father's gaze softened, a rare glimpse of emotion breaking through his stoic façade. "Y/n, as you well know, our family's legacy and our position in society are of utmost importance. We need a strong alliance to secure our future."
Y/n's mind raced, memories and emotions colliding in a whirlwind. The weight of tradition, the expectations of her family, and the choices she had made all seemed to converge in this moment.
Her father's gaze turned distant again as if he was recalling a distant memory. "You remember Min Yoongi, don't you?"
Y/n's heart skipped a beat, her mind flashing back to her childhood – the fleeting moments, the shared laughter, and the unspoken connection she had once felt with the young boy who had grown up to be the CEO of Min Tech Solutions.
"Min Yoongi," she murmured, her voice tinged with surprise. "Yes, I remember him."
Her father's gaze bore into hers, his tone measured. "He is a family friend, and he has agreed to enter into a marriage alliance with us. You two have known each other since childhood. Your union would not only strengthen our ties but also secure the future of our family legacy."
Y/n's thoughts spun, the gravity of the situation settling over her like a heavy fog.
Marry Min Yoongi?
The memories of their shared moments flashed through her mind – the laughter, the camaraderie, and the unspoken affection that had once existed between them. But those memories were from a time when life was simpler when the weight of family expectations and societal pressures had not yet fully taken hold.
"Father, I..." Y/n's voice faltered her emotions a tangle of uncertainty and conflicted feelings.
Her father's gaze held hers, his voice softening with a rare touch of empathy. "Y/n, I understand that this is not an easy. But you are the eldest daughter, and your role in the family is significant."
Y/n's mind raced, torn between her duty to her family and the desires of her heart. She had spent years building her own life, pursuing her dreams, and shaping her identity far from the confines of tradition. Now, faced with the weight of her father's expectations and the memories of a past connection, she found herself at a crossroads.
As the silence stretched between them, the room seemed to hold its breath, waiting for her response. The decisions she would make in the coming days would shape not only her life but the lives of those around her. The legacy of the Han family, the echoes of tradition, and the complexities of her heart all converged in this moment, a moment that would define the course of her future.
-
Y/n sat alone in her newly decorated room, the gentle glow of the chandelier casting a soft light across the space. The room felt both familiar and foreign, a reflection of the changes she had undergone during her time abroad. The walls are now adorned with tasteful artwork and subdued colors, a departure from the vibrant hues of her youth. It was as though the room itself had grown up alongside her.
Gazing at her reflection in the mirror, Y/n winced as she dabbed at the small cut on her cheek. The wound wasn't deep, but its sting seemed to reverberate throughout her being. She had spent hours crying, her tears a mixture of anger, frustration, and a profound sense of betrayal.
As she gently applied the antiseptic ointment, Y/n couldn't help but replay the argument with her father in her mind. The coldness in his eyes, the way his voice had cut through the air like a blade – it was an image that was etched into her memory. She had never seen him so consumed by rage, and it chilled her to the bone.
Tears welled up in her eyes again as she thought about the lack of remorse in his expression, the way he seemed more concerned with maintaining his authority than with the pain he had caused her. It was as though their relationship had been reduced to a mere transaction, a business deal to secure their family's legacy.
Her gaze shifted to the photograph on her nightstand – a snapshot from her time in New York, surrounded by friends who had become her chosen family. A bittersweet smile tugged at her lips as she remembered the carefree days, the nights spent exploring the city, and the laughter that had been a constant companion.
Y/n sighed heavily, her reflection in the mirror mirroring her inner turmoil. She never thought her life would turn out like this. Yes, she understood the weight of her family's wealth and status, the expectations that came with it. But the reality of her situation – the callousness of her own father's request, the resentment from her siblings who saw her return as a threat – was a bitter pill to swallow.
She wished she could go back to the days when her dreams were simpler when her biggest concern was whether Min Yoongi would ever notice her, the boy with the captivating smile who had once occupied her prepubescent fantasies. But reality had a way of shattering such illusions, revealing the harsh truths that lay beneath.
Dressed in a silk robe, Y/n let out a shaky breath and turned away from the mirror. She walked to the window, gazing out at the night sky. The city lights twinkled in the distance, a stark contrast to the darkness that had settled within her heart.
Closing her eyes, she leaned her forehead against the cool glass. She wished she had ignored that phone call from her father, wished she had stayed in New York where she had forged her own path, far away from the suffocating expectations of her family. But now, she was back in Korea, caught in a web of obligations and traditions that seemed to tighten around her with every passing moment.
Y/n knew that the road ahead wouldn't be easy. The wounds on her cheek would heal, but the wounds within her heart – the fractures in her relationship with her family, the shattered dreams of a love that had turned into a cruel twist of fate – those wounds would take time to mend.
As she stood lost in her thoughts, a gentle knock on the door startled her. Y/n turned, her eyes meeting the concerned gaze of Mi-Young, the head maid who had been a steadfast presence in her life since childhood. The years hadn't changed Mi-Young much; her hair had turned a little grayer, but her eyes still held the same warmth and care that Y/n remembered.
But as Mi-Young's gaze fell on the cut on Y/n's cheek, her professional demeanor dropped entirely. Without hesitation, she rushed forward, her hands cupping Y/n's face in a loving manner. She inspected the wound carefully, her expression a mix of worry and tenderness.
"Oh, my dear child," Mi-Young murmured, her voice a mixture of concern and affection. "You shouldn't be handling this alone."
Y/n managed a small, reassuring smile as she reached up to touch Mi-Young's hand. "It's not too bad, Mi-Young. Just a scratch."
Mi-Young's eyes searched Y/n's face, concern still evident in her features. Before she could say anything, Y/n's fingers tightened gently on her wrist. She seemed torn between her role as a servant and her genuine care for the young woman she had watched grow up. Before she could say anything,
"I promise you, I'm okay," Y/n reassured her, her voice soft but determined. "But what's going on, Mi-Young? Why did you come?"
Mi-Young took a step back, her hands folding neatly in front of her. "Your future husband and his family will be attending later on this week as well as a dress fitting scheduled to prepare for the dinner," she said, her tone shifting back to her professional demeanor.
A heaviness settled in Y/n's chest at the reminder of the looming arranged marriage. She nodded, her gaze dropping to the floor for a moment before she looked back at Mi-Young.
Y/n's heart sank even further. The reality of the situation was closing in on her, suffocating her with its weight. She managed a small nod, her mind already racing with thoughts of how to navigate the days ahead.
"Miss Y/n," Mi-Young's voice was gentle, "I know this is difficult. But remember, you are stronger than you think. You've faced challenges before, and you've come out of them even more resilient."
A tear finally escaped Y/n's eye, and she wiped it away with a frustrated sigh. "Within twelve hours of being back, I'm already thrust back into this toxic environment. I'm just supposed to be okay with it."
Mi-Young's arms encircled Y/n in a warm embrace, offering a silent understanding. "I know it's not easy, my dear. But you have the strength to face whatever comes your way. And remember, I'm here for you, just like I always have been."
Y/n's grip tightened on Mi-Young's embrace as she allowed herself a moment of vulnerability. She let her guard down, allowing the tears to flow as she clung to the one person who had always shown her unwavering kindness and love.
Mi-Young held her close, a motherly figure providing comfort in a world that felt so overwhelming. "It's okay to feel upset, Y/n. Your feelings are valid. But don't forget the resilient spirit you've carried with you since you were a child."
Y/n's voice trembled as she spoke, her emotions raw and unfiltered. "I just... I already want to go back to New York. I miss the life I had there, where I was free to be myself without all these expectations."
Mi-Young pulled back slightly to meet Y/n's gaze, her eyes filled with compassion. "I understand, my dear. But remember, you can still be yourself, even in the midst of these challenges. It may be a different path, but it's still yours to shape."
A tear rolled down Y/n's cheek as she looked into Mi-Young's eyes, a mix of gratitude and sadness. "Thank you, Mi-Young. Your words mean more to me than you'll ever know."
Mi-Young smiled softly, brushing a stray strand of hair from Y/n's face. "I want to see you happy."
Y/n's heart swelled at Mi-Young's words, a rush of warmth replacing the ache within her. She leaned into the embrace once more, finding solace in Mi-Young's unwavering presence. "Thank you."
"And, Miss Y/n," Mi-Young hesitated, her eyes softening once again. "I've been informed that arrangements have been made to move all your belongings into the Han mansion."
Y/n's eyebrows furrowed in surprise. "Move my things? But I never..."
She trailed off, realizing that her father was likely behind this decision. The idea of living under the same roof as her family was suffocating. She needed space, a place where she could breathe and be herself.
"Thank you, Mi-Young," Y/n said softly, her voice tinged with gratitude. "But I won't be moving into the Han mansion. I've already made arrangements to move into a penthouse. I need my own space."
Mi-Young's eyes widened slightly, but then a knowing smile tugged at her lips. "Of course, Miss Y/n. I'll make sure your wishes are conveyed."
As Mi-Young turned to leave, Y/n reached out and gently touched her arm. "Mi-Young, thank you. Thank you for always being here for me."
Mi-Young's smile grew warmer. "It's my honor, Miss Y/n. Remember, no matter where you are, you always have a family here."
With those words, Mi-Young left the room, leaving Y/n alone with her thoughts once again. As she stared out the window into the night, the weight of her decisions and the uncertainty of her future pressed heavily upon her.

The Han family mansion exuded opulence, every detail meticulously designed to exalt their stature. The grand chandeliers bathed the room in a soft, warm glow, illuminating the surroundings with an air of luxury that befitted the family's reputation. In the midst of this refined setting, Han Y/n stood poised, an embodiment of grace and elegance.
Y/n wore a floor-length gown made of a rich burgundy fabric that flowed elegantly, adorned with intricate embroidery that traced delicate patterns along the edges. The dress hugged her figure in all the right places, the off-shoulder neckline adding a touch of sophistication. The traditional elements of the gown were seamlessly blended with a modern silhouette, reflecting her unique blend of heritage and contemporary flair.
As she descended the grand staircase, the soft rustle of the fabric accompanied each step, a symphony of poise and confidence. Her dark hair was swept up in an elaborate bun, adorned with delicate pins that glimmered like stars against the night sky. A pair of elegant diamond earrings caught the light, framing her face with a subtle, radiant glow.
The dinner was set to take place in the family's opulent dining room, a space that had witnessed countless meetings and celebrations over the years. Y/n took her place at the table, next to her father who occupied the head of the table. Her mother and siblings were arranged on the other side – Han Ji-Woon, Han Soo-Min, and Han Tae-Jun.
As Y/n settled into her seat, the atmosphere was charged with an undercurrent of tension. Her father's presence at the head of the table was a stark reminder of his authority and the power dynamics within the family.
The staff moved with practiced grace, bringing out dish after dish in a perfectly choreographed dance. The staff moved around the table, pouring wine and attending to each family member's needs. Their presence was an unspoken reminder of the family's status and the rigid hierarchies that defined their lives.
As the first course was served, the silence was broken by the sound of Soo-Min's voice, laced with a tone that dripped with sarcasm. "My, my, Unnie. What a lovely fashion statement you're making with that cut on your cheek. It's positively daring."
Y/n met her sister's gaze, her annoyance barely concealed. "And what's that supposed to mean, Soo-Min?"
Soo-Min's smirk was evident, her words laced with provocation. "Oh, nothing much. Just wondering if it's the latest trend to showcase your independence."
Y/n's eyes narrowed, her patience wearing thin. "You know that's not why it's there."
Soo-Min's scoff was barely contained. "Oh, I'm well aware. I'm just curious how you acquired such a daring accessory."
Y/n's frustration bubbled to the surface. "Believe me, it's none of your business."
Soo-Min's smile turned into a sly grin. "Oh, come now, Y/n. Are you trying to hide something from us? Did someone give you that cut, or did you give it to yourself for a bit of attention?"
The accusation hung in the air like a challenge, and Y/n's resolve hardened. "You really have a knack for twisting things, don't you? Unlike you, Soo-Min, I don't have to resort to such tactics for attention."
Soo-Min's smile didn't waver, her eyes locking onto Y/n's. "Is that so? It's just interesting that you've returned after all these years with a sudden need for our family's spotlight."
She could feel her father's eyes on her, his attention heightened by the tense atmosphere. With a calm that belied the turmoil within, Y/n's retort was sharp. "Not that it's any of your concern, Soo-Min, but I accidentally nicked myself."
The retort held a subtle edge, a reminder that Y/n was no longer the compliant older sister who would silently endure the barbs of her family. The room seemed to hold its breath for a moment, the tension palpable as Y/n's words hung in the air.
Soo-Min's lips curved into a sardonic smile, her eyes narrowing as their gazes locked. The exchange carried an unspoken challenge, a clash of wills that simmered beneath the polished surface of their interactions.
Ji-Woon's voice, smooth as silk but laced with an undertone of rivalry, cut in. "Must we engage in this petty banter, especially tonight of all nights?"
Tae-Jun's infectious charm seemed to counter the growing tension, his voice lighthearted. "Come on, let's not dampen the mood. We're all here as a family, right?"
Their mother, elegant and composed, cleared her throat softly. Her gentle but firm voice carried a hint of caution. "Let's remember the purpose of this gathering. We are here to celebrate Y/n's return"
But the unspoken tensions lingered, threatening to boil over at any moment. Y/n could feel the weight of her father's gaze on her, a reminder that their actions were being scrutinized.
As Soo-Min opened her mouth, a tense argument looming on the horizon, their mother's hand on her arm silenced her. A subtle but stern gaze passed between them, and Soo-Min subsided, albeit begrudgingly.
Ji-Woon leaned forward, his tone dripping with sarcasm. "Of course, Mother. How could we forget the importance?"
Soo-Min shot him a look of annoyance, her sharp retort quick on her tongue. "Oh, don't pretend like you're not eager for the chairman position yourself, Oppa."
Y/n watched the back-and-forth with a mixture of frustration and resignation. It was a familiar dance, one they had engaged in countless times before – a competition for their father's favor, a rivalry fueled by their shared ambition. As the siblings' bickering continued, the room seemed to crackle with tension, an electric charge that threatened to ignite at any moment.
Tae-Jun, ever the peacemaker, attempted to intervene. "Hey, can we please just enjoy this dinner and put our differences aside for once?"
But Soo-Min's retort was swift and biting. "It's easy for you to say, Tae-Jun. You don't have to prove yourself like the rest of us."
Soo-Min's lips curled into a half-smile, the tension between them simmering beneath the surface. The exchange didn't go unnoticed by their father, whose eyes bore into Y/n with an intensity that sent a chill down her spine.
"Enough," her father's voice cut through the air, his words curt and commanding. The table fell into an uneasy silence, the weight of his authority hanging over them.
Y/n shifted her gaze to her plate, her appetite diminished by the atmosphere that had settled over the room. She could feel her father's gaze lingering on her, a reminder of the expectations that loomed over her. Despite the elaborate surroundings and the lavish meal before her, she felt trapped in a web of obligations and familial pressures.
Ji-Woon, the elder son, cleared his throat, his voice carrying an air of self-assuredness. "Father, I've been considering ways to expand our hotel chain into international markets. I believe this move would significantly boost our revenue."
Y/n's father nodded approvingly, his attention shifting from Y/n to Ji-Woon. "Continue your research, Ji-Woon. We need to maintain our stronghold in the industry."
Soo-Min's voice cut in, her tone calculating. "And what about Y/n, Father? She's been away for years. Will she now be contributing her ideas for the company?"
The tension in the room escalated, the underlying rivalry between the siblings palpable. Y/n met Soo-Min's gaze, her eyes holding a mixture of defiance and weariness. "Soo-Min, if I recall correctly, your concern for my involvement seems rather sudden."
Soo-Min's smile was sharp, her words laced with a hint of condescension. "Well, we all know that you've been enjoying your freedom abroad while the rest of us have been working diligently to uphold the family's legacy."
The atmosphere grew increasingly strained, the unspoken animosities simmering just beneath the surface. Y/n's father interjected, his voice firm. "Enough of this. We are family, and we should be supporting each other's efforts, not tearing each other down."
Tae-Jun attempted to diffuse the tension with a charismatic grin. "Father's right. Let's focus on the future and the opportunities that lie ahead."
Their mother, who had remained silent, finally spoke up, her voice carrying a note of warmth. "This dinner is meant to celebrate Y/n's return to Korea. Let's not allow disagreements to overshadow this moment."
Tae-Jun seized the opportunity to contribute positively. "Thank you, mom, you're very right. We should be celebrating as a family. Noona, we've missed you."
Y/n offered a small, genuine smile in return, appreciating her brother's attempt to ease the tension. "Thank you, Tae-Jun. I've missed all of you too."
Soo-Min, though less overtly hostile, couldn't resist a snide comment. "Yes, it's been such a long time since we've seen you, Y/n. We're eager to hear about your adventures in America."
Ji-Woon interjected with his characteristic charm, trying to lighten the mood. "Tell us, Y/n, did you meet any interesting people during your time abroad?"
Their mother, sensing the need to maintain harmony, directed the conversation towards less contentious topics. "Y/n, have you seen the new renovations we've done to the mansion? We wanted everything to be perfect for your return."
Y/n nodded, genuinely impressed by the tasteful changes made to the family home. "Yes, Mother, it's beautiful. You've done a wonderful job."
The staff, who had been discreetly observing the family dynamics, continued their duties with a quiet efficiency. The tension, though temporarily diffused, still lingered beneath the surface, a constant presence that defined the relationships within the Han family.
As the evening continued, the conversation shifted towards more neutral subjects – the family's business ventures, upcoming social events, and Y/n's future plans. Despite the efforts to maintain civility, the underlying currents of competition and ambition continued to simmer, a reflection of the complex web of relationships that bound the Han family together.

Min Yoongi strode into Min Tech Solutions, his steps echoing through the sleek, modern lobby of the towering building. Dressed impeccably in a tailored black suit, his presence demanded attention. He was the embodiment of power and control, his cold demeanor only accentuating his status. To the employees, he was the enigmatic CEO of the company, known for his brilliance in technology and his strategic mind.
Behind him trailed his two closest friends—Jung Hoseok, his dedicated and efficient assistant, and Kim Seokjin, the charismatic head manager of the company. Despite their different roles, the trio had been inseparable since their school days, their camaraderie unbreakable.
As they made their way through the lobby, the employees paused in their tracks, bowing respectfully as Yoong passed by. It was a well-established ritual; a silent acknowledgment of his position. The private elevator beckoned at the far end of the lobby, its sleek doors sliding open upon their approach. Stepping inside, the trio was enveloped in the elevator's plush interior, a cocoon of silence and anticipation. It began its ascent, carrying them toward the upper echelons of the building, where the executive offices lay like a sanctum of innovation.
Hoseok leaned forward slightly, his tablet in hand, and began to brief Yoongi on the day's schedule. "Sir, you have a busy day ahead. First, a meeting with Kim Namjoon regarding artwork, followed by a suit fitting, dinner with your parents and brother."
Yoongi nodded along, his gaze focused on the numbers ticking up on the digital display. However, his attention snapped back to Hoseok as the next item on the agenda was mentioned.
"Lastly, you're supposed to contact your soon-to-be wife, Han Y/n."
Yoongi's brows furrowed, and he exchanged a puzzled glance with Seokjin. It was a rare occurrence for anything to surprise him, but this unexpected piece of information managed to do just that. He turned to Hoseok, a mix of disbelief and irritation evident in his voice. "What are you talking about?"
Seokjin chimed in, his curiosity piqued. "Yeah, Hoseok, what's this about a wife?"
Hoseok furrowed his brows, glancing down at his tablet again, as if the answer might have slipped onto the screen without his notice. "I... I'm not sure, Yoongi-hyung. It's on the schedule, but I wasn't informed of the details."
Seokjin leaned against the mirrored wall, his brows furrowing in contemplation. "This is unexpected, Yoongi. Are your parents aware of this?"
Yoongi's lips formed a thin line as he shook his head. "I have no idea. This is the first time I'm hearing about it."
Hoseok fiddled with his tablet, his brows knitting together as he tapped on the screen. "Wait a minute, let me check something."
As the elevator continued its climb, Hoseok's expression shifted from confusion to realization. He sucked in a sharp breath. "I think I know what might be happening."
Yoongi and Seokjin turned their attention to Hoseok, waiting for an explanation.
Hoseok looked up, his eyes locking with Yoongi's. "It looks like someone added this to your schedule without proper communication. And based on the timing, I have a strong feeling that this lunch with your family is more than just a casual gathering. I think they might be planning to discuss your marriage, Yoongi-hyung."
Seokjin shot Hoseok a look of disbelief. "Are you saying Yoongi is getting married? Without even knowing about it?"
Hoseok's expression mirrored Seokjin's incredulity. "I don't have any more information than what's on the schedule, guys. But if it's there, it seems to be something your parents are orchestrating."
The air in the elevator seemed to grow heavier with every passing second. Yoongi's eyes widened, his mind struggling to grasp the enormity of the revelation. Marriage? The notion seemed utterly foreign, especially given that he was entirely unaware of any such arrangement. His heart pounded, and his fingers curled into tight fists at his sides.
Yoongi leaned against the elevator wall, his mind racing as he tried to process the information. "This doesn't make sense. I'm not even in a relationship, let alone engaged."
Seokjin let out a low whistle. "This is some next-level parental intervention."
The elevator chimed, indicating their arrival at the executive floor. The doors slid open, revealing the minimalist design of the top-level offices. Yoongi stepped out, his thoughts still in turmoil.
Seokjin's eyes widened in realization, his voice a mixture of awe and amusement. "Yoongi, you're the unsuspecting star of a real-life K-drama plot."
A rare quirk tugged at the corner of Yoongi's lips. The absurdity of the situation was not lost on him, and the irony of being caught in his own storyline was almost amusing.

The sun had risen on a new day, casting its warm light across the bustling streets of Seoul. Amidst the city's vibrant energy, Y/n found herself seated in a familiar haven—a cozy Korean barbecue restaurant that held a wealth of memories. By her side were her steadfast companions, Jimin and Jungkook, the bonds of their friendship unyielding even across time zones and continents. The three of them had shared countless meals and memories over the years, and their bond remained as strong as ever despite the distance and time that had passed.
"Y/n, you're really trying to out-eat us today, huh?" Jungkook teased, his eyes dancing with amusement as he placed a piece of meat on the grill.
Y/n chuckled, a mischievous glint in her eyes. "Oh, you know I have to keep up with you two somehow."
Jimin chimed in with a playful grin. "Yeah, Jungkook's metabolism is like a black hole. I don't know where all that food goes."
Jungkook shot Jimin a mock-offended look. "Hey, watch it. I take offense to that."
The trio's camaraderie was palpable as they shared stories from their recent adventures. Just two months ago, both Jimin and Jungkook had been in New York for work, and they'd managed to catch up with Y/n despite their busy schedules. It was moments like these that bridged the gap between continents and reaffirmed their unbreakable bond.
Amid the friendly banter, Jimin's tone turned more serious as he leaned back in his chair, fixing his gaze on Y/n. "So, Y/n, you're the talk of Korea these days."
Y/n's eyes widened in feigned innocence. "What? Who told you that?"
Jungkook chuckled, shaking his head. "Come on, Y/n. You know everyone's buzzing about your return. People are practically writing novels about it."
Y/n chuckled. She had expected her arrival to go relatively unnoticed, considering her family's business dealings and her complex relationship with them. Yet, both of her friend's words made her realize that her mere presence seemed to stir up interest and conversations all around.
"We're serious, everyone's been talking about you coming back," Jimin remarked with an amused grin.
Y/n raised an eyebrow in surprise. "Really? I didn't think it would be that big of a deal."
Jungkook chimed in, his playful smirk matching Jimin's. "Well, you've always been somewhat of an idol to people here. Even in the States, you managed to stay kind and down-to-earth despite your background."
“Idol?” Y/n chuckled, shaking her head. "I'm just me, guys. I don't get what the fuss is about."
Jimin pulled out his phone and tapped a few times before showing Y/n a news article with her picture. "Well, this might give you an idea."
Y/n took a glance at the article, her eyes widening slightly at the headline. "Seriously? They're writing articles about me coming back?"
Jimin grinned mischievously. "Oh, you're a hot topic right now."
Y/n shook her head, still finding it hard to believe. "It's weird, isn't it? I mean, I've been away for years. Why would people care?"
"Well, you're the eldest of your family, last I checked unless you have an older sibling no one knows about. And considering your family's reputation, your return might be seen as something significant." Jungkook leaned back in his chair, looking thoughtful. "The eldest of the Han family returns after mysterious disappearance years ago, is it to save the Marblegold group? That kind headline does have is rather captivating.”
“Cut it out Jungkook,” Jimin says hitting his shoulder, “You can’t even spell captivating.”
Bucking towards Jimin, Jungkook was about to attack his hyung before both of their attention turns to Y/n as she sighed softly, her expression tinged with resignation. "Yeah, I guess so. The Han family isn't exactly known for its pristine reputation."
Jimin and Jungkook exchanged a knowing look, their expressions showing sympathy for their friend's predicament. Y/n's family history was something they were familiar with, having known her since they were kids. Her complex relationship with her family was something they had witnessed firsthand.
Jimin, with his warm smile and easygoing demeanor, had carved a name for himself in the world of dance and choreography. His creativity and passion had led him to become a successful choreographer, working with renowned artists and creating captivating performances that resonated with audiences worldwide.
On the other hand, Jungkook's journey had taken him into the realm of gaming—a path that had led to immense success. Known as one of the biggest gamers in Korea, Jungkook had built a reputation for his skill, dedication, and charismatic presence. His online presence and gaming prowess had garnered him a dedicated fanbase and had solidified his status as a prominent figure in the gaming community.
As the conversation continued, the trio delved into deeper matters. Y/n found herself opening up about the whirlwind of events that had occurred within the first 24 hours of her return—her arranged marriage, the tension with her siblings, and the unfamiliar path that lay ahead.
Jimin's expression grew serious as he listened, and he leaned forward slightly. "Y/n, are you sure you’re okay withthis?"
Y/n offered a small smile, appreciating the concern in her friends' eyes. "Honestly, I don't know. It's a lot to take in, but I'll have to figure it out."
Jungkook chimed in, his tone gentle. "And this guy you're marrying, Yoongi. Is he someone you know? The name sounds familiar, like I can picture his face but I’m not sure from where."
Y/n's cheeks turned a faint shade of pink as she thought about Yoongi. "Yeah, I actually knew him when we were kids."
Jimin raised an eyebrow playfully. "Is he the Yoongi you had a crush on?"
Y/n playfully swatted at Jimin's arm. "Cut it out, Jimin. But yes, it's the same Yoongi."
Jimin and Y/n shared a laugh at Jungkook's expense, who suddenly choked on a piece of meat from their barbecue feast. Y/n quickly passed him a glass of water, her concern evident as he coughed and sputtered.
"Jungkook, are you okay?" Y/n asked, patting his back gently.
Jungkook finally managed to catch his breath, his face red from the coughing fit. He took a sip of water and shot a playful glare at Jimin. "You two are something else."
Jimin grinned sheepishly. "Hey, you're the one who couldn't handle the truth bomb."
Y/n chuckled, relieved to see Jungkook recovering. "Don't worry, Jungkook. We won't drop any more shocking news on you."
Jungkook shook his head with a dramatic sigh. "I should've known better than to eat while you two are talking."
Once the laughter subsided, Jimin turned the conversation towards a more serious topic. "Y/n, is there going to be an official statement about your sudden return and this marriage situation?"
Y/n shrugged her shoulders, her expression uncertain. "I don't know, guys. Honestly, I don't have control over these things. It's all happening so fast."
Jimin and Jungkook exchanged a glance, their expressions reflecting concern and sympathy. They had known Y/n long enough to understand the complexities of her family dynamics and the challenges she faced. Without saying a word, their supportive presence spoke volumes.
Jimin leaned forward, his expression concerned. "But are you at least going to stay with your parents until the wedding?"
Y/n shook her head, her eyes distant for a moment. "No, I'm not staying with them. I stayed with them last night, but my new penthouse should be ready this afternoon. Even when I'm married, I intend to have it as a place of solitude A place I can go to when I just need to be alone "
Jungkook raised an eyebrow, curiosity evident in his voice. "A penthouse? That's quite the upgrade."
Y/n chuckled softly. "Well, I guess the Han family name has its perks. But honestly, it's just a place to stay. I don't want to be in the middle of all the family drama."
Jimin nodded in understanding. "Can't blame you for that. Family dynamics can be... complicated."
Y/n's smile turned wistful, a hint of sadness in her eyes. "You have no idea."
"So you're really going through with it? "Jungkook says, with a look of sympathy and his eyes. "The marriage?
Y/n sighs as she chews a piece of meat in her mouth before slowly nodding "I don't really have a choice in this."
Without uttering a word, their supportive presence spoke volumes, a testament to the deep bond they shared with Y/n. But just as they settled into a comfortable silence, Y/n noticed something out of the corner of her eye that drew her attention away from the heartfelt conversation.
Paparazzi.
The word alone held a weight that tugged at Y/n's composure. While she had always been adept at maintaining a cool demeanor, the unwelcome intrusion of cameras and attention had always unnerved her. Her return to Korea, marked by the chaos of her family's dynamics and the sudden arranged marriage, had plunged her right back into a spotlight she had never sought.
As if sensing the shift in Y/n's mood, Jungkook's gaze followed hers and found the source of her discomfort—the paparazzi gathered outside the restaurant. The awareness passed like a silent current between the three friends, momentarily casting a shadow over their carefree evening.
Jungkook leans in slightly, his tone gentle yet probing. As Y/n puts a hand up to cover her face, her hair moves behind her revealing the cut that she’s been hiding from them the whole time. "Hey, what happened to your cheek?"
Y/n's heart skipped a beat, and she froze momentarily. Jimin's gaze sharpened, his concern growing. "Y/n, is everything okay? Was it your dad again?"
Her friends' perceptiveness sent a shiver down Y/n's spine. They had known her for so long that they could read her like an open book. She looked down, her fingers tracing the still-fresh cut on her cheek as if lost in thought.
-
After hearing her father's request, Y/n tried her best to hold back her emotions. The news hit her like a tidal wave, leaving her feeling as though she was being treated like a pawn in a game. She had always known that her family's priorities lay heavily with the business and their status, but this was a blow she hadn't expected. Her emotions simmered beneath the surface as she struggled to maintain her composed facade.
"I don't get a choice in all this, do I?" Y/n's voice was steady, but the undertone of frustration was unmistakable.
Her father's silence was deafening. The lack of response fueled the growing agitation within her. The chill demeanor she had cultivated over the years began to crack, revealing the storm of emotions that raged beneath the surface.
"Is this what you've been planning all along?" Y/n's words were sharp, her voice laced with anger. "To use me as a means to boost your business? Because I'm not the son you wanted? Is that it?"
Her father's expression remained stoic, a mask that hid his true thoughts. The silence, the absence of denial, was a confirmation in itself. The pieces of the puzzle fell into place in a way that sent a surge of resentment coursing through her veins.
"You never cared about me, did you?" Y/n's voice grew louder, her frustration breaking through her usual restraint. "All those years in the States, and the only time you ever reached out was about the business. You never once asked how I was. And now, you want to control my life, my future?"
The tension in the room escalated with every word, the air charged with the weight of years of neglect and unspoken resentment. Her father's silence seemed to amplify the roar of her anger.
"Answer me!" Y/n's voice cracked, her composure slipping. "Was this your plan all along?"
Finally, her father's voice cut through the air, a sharp retort that echoed with his authority. "Y/n, you will address me with respect."
The sudden raise in his voice hung in the air like a shockwave. The room fell silent, the tension almost palpable. Y/n's heart raced, her chest heaving as she met her father's gaze with a mixture of defiance and desperation.
"Respect?" Y/n's voice trembled with a mix of anger and hurt. "You demand respect after years of treating me like a commodity? This is why I've never considered you my father."
Her father's expression remained unchanged, his silence a wall that she could not break through. The argument had reached an impasse, the chasm between them widening with every passing moment.
"You can't force me into this marriage," Y/n's voice quivered with determination. "I won't be a pawn in your games."
Her father's voice finally broke the silence, but his tone was cold and measured. "Y/n, you have a duty to this family, to our legacy. It's not about being a pawn, it's about fulfilling your responsibilities."
A bitter laugh escaped Y/n's lips, tinged with irony. "Responsibilities? Is that what you call it? This isn't about family to you. It's about control and image."
Her father's gaze bore into hers, his eyes hardening. "You will marry Min Yoongi. That is not up for negotiation."
The defiance in Y/n's eyes blazed brighter. "Funny you decide this for me, but you don't do the same for your other daughter, Soo-Min."
A tense silence settled over them, a battlefield of wills and unspoken regrets. The air hung heavy with the weight of their opposing desires, the clash of tradition and individuality.
Her father's voice dropped to a chilling whisper. "Think carefully, Y/n. Your actions will have consequences."
Y/n's own voice was laced with a newfound resolve. "So will yours."
Her father's face tightened, his jaw clenched as his gaze bore into her. The tension between them was palpable, a heavy cloud of conflict that seemed to envelop the room.
"Y/n," he said, his voice a low rumble, "you will do as your duty demands."
The words were a command, a final declaration that brooked no argument. The room seemed to vibrate with the weight of their opposing wills, the clash of generations and aspirations.
But Y/n was done yielding to his authority. The fire within her burned bright, fueling her determination to forge her own path, even if it meant challenging the very foundation of her family's expectations.
"I won't marry Min Yoongi," Y/n's voice rang out, her tone resolute. "I won't sacrifice my happiness for your ambitions."
Her father's face reddened, his features contorting with anger. "You are being selfish, Y/n. You're tearing this family apart."
The accusation hung in the air, a bitter accusation that cut deep. The room seemed to vibrate with the tension between them, the years of unspoken grievances finally finding their voice.
"Selfish?" Y/n's voice wavered with a mix of frustration and sorrow. "You've spent years neglecting me, using me for your business, and now you want to dictate my future? This is not the family I want to be a part of."
Her father's fists clenched at his sides, his nostrils flaring as he struggled to contain his anger. The air was charged with their conflicting emotions, a battleground of wills that seemed impossible to resolve.
Lost in her tumultuous thoughts, Y/n barely registered the approaching footsteps until it was too late. Her father, his face a mask of anger and frustration, stood before her.
"Y/n," his voice was a low growl, a stark contrast to the authority he usually commanded. "You will not defy me."
The tension in the air was palpable, a charged silence that crackled between them. Y/n's heart raced, her breath catching in her throat as she met his gaze with a mixture of defiance and trepidation.
"Defy you?" Her voice was laced with bitterness. "What if I were to reveal your true motivations for this marriage?"
Her father's eyes narrowed, a flicker of uncertainty crossing his features. "What are you implying?"
A bitter smile twisted Y/n's lips. "Do you really think I haven't heard the rumors? About your dealings, your secrets? What if those secrets were to see the light of day?"
Her father's face darkened, his hands curling into fists at his sides. The atmosphere was charged with a new kind of tension, one that carried the weight of hidden truths and unspoken threats.
"You wouldn't dare," his voice was a low warning, a thread of desperation creeping in.
Y/n's own voice grew colder, the realization that she held power at this moment giving her a surge of adrenaline. "Try me. I've spent years being your obedient daughter, your pawn. But I won't be silenced any longer."
A strained silence settled over them, the air heavy with the threat of revelation and retaliation. The seconds ticked by, each one echoing with the weight of their choices.
Finally, her father's mask of control shattered. With a guttural roar of frustration, he grabbed a vase off his desk and hurled it in her direction. The glass shattered against the wall, a shard flying dangerously close to Y/n's cheek, leaving a small cut in its wake.
Pain radiated from the cut, a sharp reminder of the turmoil that had erupted between them. Y/n's hand instinctively went to her cheek, her gaze locked onto her father's figure, his chest heaving with rage and regret.
In that moment, the truth hung in the air, a truth that could not be ignored or dismissed. Their relationship, once strained, was now broken beyond repair. The silence between them was heavy, the room feeling like a battleground of shattered expectations and shattered glass.
With a final, seething glare, Y/n turned away and walked out of the room. The door closed behind her, a barrier that seemed to symbolize the irreparable divide that had grown between father and daughter.
Her footsteps echoed through the hallways, her chest heaving as she walked away from the turmoil she had left behind. Her mind raced with a whirlwind of emotions, anger, and sadness mixing in a potent cocktail of conflict.
-
Y/n's response carried a trace of hesitation, a fleeting chink in the armor of her usually collected façade. Attempting to deflect the situation, she offered a wistful smile, her attempt to downplay the significance of the cut on her cheek palpable.
"It's really not a big deal," she finally said, her voice almost dismissive. "Just a small cut. It'll fade in a couple of days or weeks."
Jimin and Jungkook exchanged a knowing look, their mutual understanding woven into their unspoken conversation. They knew well the intricacies of Y/n's family dynamics and the complexities she faced. Instead of delving deeper, Jimin discreetly gestured for the check, a subtle acknowledgment of the paparazzi's impact on their evening.
Their unity was unmistakable as they collected their belongings, readying themselves to leave. Jimin's gesture and Jungkook's nod conveyed a sense of unity, an agreement forged in their shared experience. "Let's wrap up here," Jimin suggested softly, the words a quiet signal to retreat.
Jungkook's agreement echoed with an underlying current of protectiveness as he looked at Y/n. "Yeah, let's get out of here."
The presence of the paparazzi had turned Y/n's demeanor from cool to agitated, the shift in her disposition revealing her vulnerability. The weight of the unwanted attention had stripped away the layers of her practiced nonchalance, exposing the unease that lay beneath.
-
With a sense of urgency, Yoongi, Hoseok, and Seokjin entered Yoongi's corner office and shut the door behind them. The plush surroundings contrasted with the whirlwind of thoughts swirling in their minds. As they gathered around his desk, their brows furrowed in contemplation, each trying to piece together the puzzle that was Han Y/n.
Seokjin furrowed his brow and leaned against the edge of the desk, his eyes narrowing in concentration. "Han Y/n... I swear, I've heard that name somewhere before. But where?"
Hoseok tapped his tablet absentmindedly, his gaze distant as he pondered the enigma. "Yeah, it's like there's a memory floating just out of reach. It's frustrating."
Yoongi, his jacket now neatly hung over the back of his chair, sat before his computer, his posture rigid and his expression as cool and intimidating as ever. His fingers hovered above the keyboard, ready to dig into the virtual realm for answers. He began typing her name into the search bar, the screen populating with a cascade of results. The name held a resonance that couldn't be denied, and he was determined to unearth the connection, even if it meant delving into his own past.
Seokjin's voice cut through the silence, his voice a mixture of frustration and determination. "There's a face tied to that name, I'm sure of it. A face from our past."
The rhythmic tapping of keys paused as Yoongi's fingers stilled above the keyboard. His eyes were fixed on the screen, the images of Han Y/n sparking fragments of recognition within him.
"I remember now. Han Y/n," Yoongi's voice was measured and composed, his cold exterior unwavering even as his mind raced to make sense of the connections.
Hoseok and Seokjin turned their full attention to him, their eyes a mix of curiosity and expectancy. Yoongi swiveled his computer screen to face them, revealing the articles and images that had captured his attention.
"She's the eldest daughter of the Han family," Yoongi's tone held a touch of steel, his gaze fixed on the images on the screen. His demeanor remained as icy and intimidating as ever, the enigma of Han Y/n doing little to thaw his exterior. "We were classmates back in middle school."
Seokjin's eyes widened, a gasp escaping his lips as the puzzle pieces started to fall into place. "Wait, you mean the same Han Y/n who vanished without a trace?"
Yoongi's nod was subtle, his mind a whirlwind of memories and unanswered questions. "Yes, that's her. She was always the quiet, intelligent, but rather beautiful type. And then, one day, she just disappeared."
Hoseok leaned in, his gaze scrutinizing the images on the screen, while his tone held a mixture of curiosity and awe. "And now, she's back in Korea and making waves with her accomplishments."
Seokjin whistled softly, his words carrying a sense of awe and disbelief. "This is surreal. The heiress of the Han family, the same girl we knew, is now at the center of it all."
Yoongi's expression didn't waver, his cold demeanor acting as a shield against the surge of emotions that threatened to break through. "But what's the reason for this marriage? And why bring her back into the fold now?"
A palpable silence enveloped the room, the weight of their thoughts hanging heavy. Yoongi's fingers unconsciously tapped against the keyboard, a rhythmic accompaniment to the intensity of their discussion.
Seokjin leaned back, his expression pensive. "There's more to her story, something we're not seeing."
Hoseok leaned forward, determination evident in his voice. "We need to find out where she was all these years, what she's been up to, and why she's back now."
Yoongi's gaze remained fixed on the photo displayed on his screen, his thoughts racing like a well-oiled machine beneath his calm facade. The photo portrayed a woman who exuded confidence and grace, a far cry from the quiet girl they had known. Her enigmatic smile and poised stance held a thousand untold stories, and Yoongi couldn't shake the feeling that her sudden reappearance was just the beginning of a much larger narrative.
Seokjin's voice pierced the quiet once again, his words carrying a mix of determination and curiosity. "Whatever happened during her absence, and whatever led to this arranged marriage, we're going to find out. There’s no way there isn’t some bigger reasoning behind this."
Hoseok's brows furrowed in contemplation as he glanced between Yoongi and Seokjin. "But the question is, if this arranged marriage is true, why would your parents agree to such a thing?"
At that moment, Yoongi's intense gaze finally shifted away from the photo of Han Y/n on the screen. His eyes held a glint of realization, and his lips curved into a faint, enigmatic smile.
Yoongi leaned back in his chair, his fingers steepled beneath his chin. "Hoseok, find out who added that dinner appointment to my schedule. And I want to know why."
Hoseok nodded, his fingers dancing across his tablet's screen as he began his investigation. He had been through countless tasks and challenges as Yoongi's assistant, but this one seemed to carry an air of significance that couldn't be ignored.
Hoseok looked up from his tablet, his expression a mix of concern and confusion. "Yoongi-hyung, it seems the addition was made by your parents' personal assistant. It's highly unusual for her to act without your parents' approval."
Yoongi's lips pressed into a thin line. "Seems like they've got something up their sleeves."
Seokjin leaned forward, his brow furrowing with a blend of seriousness and concern. "Perhaps it's time to have an open conversation with your family about this, Yoongi. If they're making decisions about your future without your knowledge, it's only fair that you have a say in the matter."
Yoongi's gaze turned distant for a moment, his thoughts drifting to his family and the complicated dynamics that had shaped his life. He was known for his resilience and his ability to navigate challenges, but this particular situation hit close to home in a way that left him vulnerable.
"I do have dinner with my parents this evening," he stated calmly, his tone unchanged from its usual cool demeanor. "Perhaps it's time I got some answers."
Hoseok looked back down at his tablet, his fingers poised over the screen. "I'll dig into Han Y/n's background, see if I can find any information that might shed light on what happened while she was gone, why she disappeared, and why she's suddenly in the picture."
A sense of determination radiated from Yoongi as he leaned forward, his eyes locking with Hoseok's. "And let's find out what my family is really planning. If they're orchestrating something like this, it's time they understand that I won't be easily manipulated."
The resolve in Yoongi's voice sent a shiver down Hoseok's spine, a reminder of the man's unwavering strength beneath the layers of complexity.
-
Y/n stepped into the luxurious expanse of her penthouse, the grandeur that surrounded her contrasting starkly with the whirlwind of emotions raging within. The heels of her shoes clicked against the opulent marble floor, a rhythmic echo of the disarray that had marked her recent encounters. As she kicked off her high heels, an unspoken tension clung to her movements, a sign of the anxious turmoil that had settled within her.
The penthouse, with its extravagant decor and impeccable furnishings, should have been a sanctuary of calm. Yet, as her gaze swept over the pristine interior, she found it difficult to escape the cacophony of thoughts that raced through her mind. The echoes of her friends' words from the Korean barbecue reverberated within her, a symphony of anxiety that had taken residence in her thoughts.
Jungkook and Jimin's revelations about her newfound prominence within Korean society seemed to amplify the weight of her return. The collective attention of a nation had zeroed in on her, dissecting every move she made, every choice she contemplated. The sheer scope of it was overwhelming, a cacophony of voices that left her disoriented.
The situation with her family, marked by complexities and conflicts, seemed to have reached a crescendo. The arranged marriage to Yoongi, a pact that had implications beyond her understanding, hung over her like a shadow. The very foundation of her world had shifted, and uncertainty had taken root where once there had been surety.
She swept her gaze around the spacious foyer, where the light danced off crystal chandeliers that hung from the ceiling like delicate jewels. A coat she had been wearing moments ago was casually draped over a plush armchair, while her purse landed on the nearby couch with a soft thud, seemingly discarded without a second thought.
As she navigated the grandeur of her penthouse, a space that mirrored the luxury she had grown up with, she found herself grappling with a sense of unease. The penthouse was a breathtaking testament to opulence. Located in the heart of Seoul's elite district, it occupied the uppermost floors of a gleaming skyscraper, affording her a panoramic view of the bustling city below.
The space was divided into two stories, connected by a grand staircase adorned with a crystal chandelier that cascaded from the ceiling above.
The first floor, bathed in the warm glow of ambient lighting, boasted an open-plan living area and kitchen. Creamy marble floors met rich, dark wood furnishings, creating a harmonious contrast that was both inviting and sophisticated. The living room was graced with plush leather sofas and oversized floor-to-ceiling windows, offering a breathtaking view of the cityscape.
What struck Y/n most was the artwork adorning the walls—exquisite Korean calligraphy and contemporary paintings from her collection in New York. It was a visual tapestry that bridged her past and her present.
The kitchen, a vision of modernity and functionality, featured state-of-the-art appliances and gleaming granite countertops. A long, sleek dining table sat at the center, where Y/n could host guests and family gatherings in style if she were even given the opprotunity.
Ascending the grand staircase to the second floor, she found herself in a cozy yet refined personal sanctuary. Her bedroom, a symphony of neutral colors, exuded tranquility. A massive four-poster bed with intricately carved wooden panels dominated the room, flanked by silk curtains that billowed gently in the breeze from the open terrace.
The terrace, a haven of greenery and serenity, was a juxtaposition to the bustling city below. Here, she could find solace amidst potted bonsai trees and meticulously maintained Korean gardens, a nod to her roots and a sanctuary for contemplation.
Y/n's penthouse was more than just a luxurious dwelling; it was a reflection of her identity—a blend of old and new, tradition and innovation.
Y/n, in her customary demeanor of composure, surveyed her surroundings with a detached appreciation. She was dressed impeccably, her attire carefully chosen to reflect both power and sophistication. A charcoal-gray pantsuit, tailored to perfection, molded to her form, while a pristine white blouse peeked from beneath the structured jacket. Her raven-black hair cascaded down her back in a controlled cascade, the dark waves a stark contrast to her porcelain skin.
In this realm of luxury, her usual chill facade remained intact. Yet, as she moved with precision through the penthouse, an observant eye might catch a flicker of internal turmoil, a hint of tension beneath the practiced exterior.
The penthouse exuded opulence, an extravagant tapestry woven with the finest materials. Y/n's sense of aesthetics allowed her to appreciate the harmonious fusion of design elements, even as her thoughts wandered.
The weight of the events that had unfolded in the short span of a day tugged at her composure, an undercurrent of vulnerability that threatened to breach her carefully crafted facade. Y/n was adept at masking her emotions, a skill honed through years of navigating a world that expected perfection. And yet, the battle raging within her was undeniable, a tempest that had eluded her control.
She moved with practiced grace, her demeanor a tapestry of poise. But behind the mask of composure lay a maelstrom of thoughts, a whirlwind of questions and doubts that cast shadows across her mind. Her pulse quickened, the rhythm of her heart in sync with the disarray of her thoughts.
The luxury that surrounded her felt alien, a stark contrast to the turmoil that churned within. The decor, meticulous in its detail, seemed to pale in comparison to the complexity of her circumstances. Though she appeared unfazed, even internally about her situation at hand, she couldn't deny the appreciation she felt for the meticulously curated space. She noticed with a small, almost imperceptible smile, how her cherished furniture and decor from her New York apartment seamlessly melded with the opulence of her new abode.
As she walked further, her eyes fell upon a collection of photographs placed thoughtfully on a side table. Among them was a family photo from her youth, a captured moment of innocence and happiness. Her fingers brushed against the edge of the frame, a mixture of emotions stirring within her. With practiced ease, she gently turned the photo face down, a subtle gesture to shield the past from prying eyes.
Making her way to the kitchen, the spacious room adorned with top-of-the-line appliances and sleek marble surfaces. Her fingers glided across the wine bottles displayed in an elegant glass cabinet. She selected a bottle of Romanée-Conti , a rare and expensive vintage that spoke to her refined tastes.
Pouring the wine into a crystal glass, she observed the rich, deep hue of the liquid as it swirled within the vessel. Raising the glass to her lips, she took a measured sip, savoring the intricate flavors that danced on her palate. The stress and tension of the past day seemed to melt away with every sip, replaced by a momentary respite.
Y/n wandered into the living room, the plush carpet cushioning her steps. Her eyes alighted on the turned-over photograph frame, an unintentional reminder of the past she had left behind. The image evoked a whirlwind of emotions, emotions she had buried deep within herself. Her grip on the wine glass tightened, her knuckles whitening as she stared at the frame.
A rush of memories flooded her mind—the carefree laughter, the warmth of family, and the dreams she had once nurtured. But beneath the surface of nostalgia lay a tapestry of complexities, of expectations and responsibilities that had woven her destiny into something far different from what she had envisioned.
As tears welled in her eyes, Y/n blinked them back fiercely, refusing to let her emotions overcome her. She took a steadying breath, allowing herself to acknowledge the weight of the past and the path she had chosen to forge. With a determined gesture, she turned the photograph back upright, letting the memories resurface, if only momentarily.
As her thoughts drifted, the silence was suddenly shattered by the intrusion of her ringing phone. Y/n's hand, which had been idly tracing the rim of her wine glass, stilled abruptly. Sighing deeply to herself, she retrieved her phone from her purse, which had been haphazardly discarded on the couch.
Her eyes flickered over the screen, her heart skipping a beat as her gaze settled on a name she hadn't expected to see.
The name glowed on the screen, a stark contrast to the dimmed lights of the penthouse. It was a connection she hadn't anticipated, a thread linking her to a person whose path had unexpectedly intersected with her own.
A myriad of emotions churned within her—confusion, apprehension, and a trace of something she couldn't quite put into words. Her thumb hovered over the screen, torn between answering and maintaining her self-imposed distance.
Setting her wine glass down delicately, Y/n cleared her throat, a subtle action that accompanied the sweeping away of unshed tears. In that moment, her face transformed into a visage of unwavering resilience, a mask carefully worn once more.
Amidst the quietude of the room, the persistent ringing of the phone continued, its resonating sound akin to a persistent reminder of the beckoning connection. Eventually, yielding to the inevitability of the situation, Y/n released a resigned exhale and reached for the phone. Despite the tempest of thoughts raging within her, her voice emanated a composed and cool demeanor as she spoke, grappling with her inner turmoil.
"Hello?"
A palpable pause hung in the air, as if even he, on the other end of the line, was taken aback by her response. Gradually, his voice, enveloped in a warm yet slightly uncertain tone, permeated the airwaves.
"Y/n, I hope I'm not intruding."
Leaning slightly forward at the edge of the couch, her posture exuding a controlled ease, Y/n found herself in a state of both relaxation and vigilance, her defenses still standing firm.
"Not at all, Yoongi-ssi. How can I assist you?"
A soft chuckle, suffused with gentle amusement, resonated from the other end of the line. "Please, call me Yoongi. After all, I will be your husband."
Y/n's voice, like chilled silk, cut through the air. "Very well, Yoongi."
The atmosphere grew heavier, the tension palpable even through the phone lines. Y/n, her words measured, couldn't help but question, "May I ask how you obtained my phone number?"
There was a pause, a momentary hesitation that underscored the enigmatic nature of their conversation. "Let's just say I have my ways, Y/n."
It was Yoongi's turn to chuckle, his voice holding a frigid edge. "In our impending partnership, such details will become trivial."
Y/n, her resolve unyielding, replied in kind, her voice echoing with an icy calmness. "Very well, Yoongi. How can I assist you?"
Across the bustling city of Seoul, Yoongi sat in his spacious office, the floor-to-ceiling windows offering a panoramic view of the metropolis below. The glow of the setting sun bathed the room in a warm, golden light, creating a tranquil ambiance amidst the urban chaos. His gaze wandered to the photo on his desk, a snapshot of the moment when Y/n had disembarked from the airplane—an indelible memory etched in the recesses of his mind.
With practiced nonchalance, he maintained the conversation, his voice carrying a hint of intrigue. “Y/n, I believe it's essential that we meet before the upcoming family dinner. There are matters we should discuss regarding our sudden marriage."
A subtle pause from Y/n on the other end piqued his curiosity. Her demeanor still frigid, hesitated for a brief moment before agreeing, "I will send over my availability."
A knowing smirk seemed to creep into Yoongi's voice as he responded, "I look forward to seeing you, Y/n."
With that, the connection ended, and Yoongi leaned back in his office chair, fingers tapping contemplatively on the mahogany desk. He had just set a new thread in motion, one that would draw Y/n further into the intricate web of their entwined fates, and he relished the challenge it posed.

In some media that have found family and then the friends go their own ways at some point later on, find their own paths, I've noticed the aftermath in sequels that come after time skip of several years is not always... the best. As if the once closest friends, the family, has drifted apart. I mean sure, friends do sometimes drift apart but that separated found family trope creates a rift between friends too and like- I understand that people in real life can be like this but from my personal experience and observations, this shouldn't be, isn't, the case with family. This isn't the case with a group of people closest to you who you grow up with or who supported you in your hardest times and vice versa, who helped you find yourself.
Personal observation, I've literally seen best friends or childhood friends meeting after decades and acting like they just met yesterday. There's no rift, no reserved behavior out of politeness, they literally let go of everything and let out their inner child. They laugh and tease and joke wholeheartedly, are comfortable around one another, rile each other up for funsies in a heartbeat, throwing every piece of maturity out the window. And that's not counting my own personal experience of meeting any of my best friends after several years, we didn't even realize until my mother pointed out that we were acting like we just saw each other yesterday even though it's been years.
Anyways, I'm getting off track here. Point is, I've seen many pieces of media that always create a rift between closest friends or family or found family after a long time of being away from each other and it adds drama and all but while I've seen it excused as being realistic, it isn't. Not in my opinion. Which is one of the major reasons why it always breaks my heart to see this happening and why I hate the Separated Found Family trope. I mean, why even form it in the first place if you're just planning to tear it apart in the end? What's even the point?!
So, whenever such a thing is built up in any franchise, I develop a sense of dread. I'm internally going "plz don't separate then plz don't separate them" about characters I've grown to love. And part of the reason is how media usually handles it, extremely poorly in my honest opinion.
But this didn't end up being the case with Team Sonic when Sonic's closest, life long friends decided to grow and find their own paths in life. Go their separate way. He was happy and proud to see them grow, a little reminiscent and a little sad (though he didn't show it to them) but ultimately happy for them. Would the empty nest syndrome even be a problem for someone who considers the whole planet his home? Perhaps. He respects everyone's boundaries and understands their wishes to not randomly show up whenever he misses them. (Extra bit of angst that when he was setting them free from Cyber Space and becoming increasingly infected in the process, his friends were forced into a situation that got them in a very introspective mindset and each one of them individually decided to go out on their own, leaving him, and he didn't show the literal hell of pain he was being put through that was caused by the Cyber Corruption. He was losing himself with it. He had to come to terms with all his closest friends leaving him after that adventure while he was pushing himself to the brink of death, not even knowing if he'll come out of this in the end, just to set them free. And he didn't let them know so they wouldn't worry.)
Tails, Amy and Knuckles went their own separate ways to grow and find their paths. This looks like it advanced into the separated found family trope, right? But no. The thing is, while many other media used that trope to create rift and drama or something (I'm sure there are good ones out there which didn't do this, honestly kudos to them), this one didn't play out as such. In the latest TailsTube episode, that is proven and shown beautifully. They've all met up before on Amy's birthday and there was a quick visit Sonic gave to Tails in an earlier TailsTube ep and their dynamic remained the same in both, their friendship was just as strong as ever.
But episode 5? God, I'm in love with that episode. Team Sonic coming together after months and nothing has changed. In fact, going their ways and finding their paths in life to grow didn't create a rift between them or anything, it only made their bonds stronger. It made them even closer than they were before. Like how you grow to appreciate and treasure something more when you don't always have it.
This is how found family should be depicted. That's how it actually is in real life too. Found Family doesn't mean you have to stay together 24/7 or you can't grow and find your own paths. It means that even with living life, finding yourself, growing, these people you have come to love will be connected to you just the same. Distance doesn't create rifts when the bonds are so strong, it only ends up strengthening them even more.

pairing: kino loy x f!reader ( andor ) word count: 2.2k summary: The Empire has integrated their prison systems, with you as one of the few women now incarcerated at Narkina 5. The unit manager takes you under his wing – but for reasons you didn’t anticipate.
tags: 18+ MINORS DNI! post-narkina arc, peril, presumed character death (he ain't dead gtfo of here), alcohol, angst with a happy ending a/n: this epilogue-ish chapter is dedicated to the wonderful people of next big franchise. without you all, this fic wouldn't have been possible. my many thanks for your laughs and friendship over the last year.
PART ONE / PART TWO / PART THREE / PART FOUR
welcome to the tenth day of the twelve days of amymas !!
Tumblr media
Seven-hundred days.
It would have been seven-hundred entire days since you last stepped foot on solid earth;
Since your last real meal;
Since you made a vow to keep your head low, to serve, so that you could finally see the sun again.
And you were going to see the sun again.
Your sentence was drawing to a close with little incident.
Kino Loy would leave first, and you would follow.
Your new life was right there.
—but then the prison riots happened, and everything went to shit.
.
.
.
.
.
The day Cassian Andor arrived at Narkina 5 is still a hazy one.
You recognized the fire in his eyes right away; a death wish walking on two legs.
Cassian wanted out of here the minute he stepped foot in this place.
(Didn’t he know he had to serve his time, keep his head low, and do what he must?)
He became Kino's new problem and, naturally, yours.
Every day after became a blur.
Kino continued to keep order, to remind everyone of the common goal, even with Andor's poison of fighting their way out.
The floor manager still met you with secret touches, longing stares, and whispered promises to meet you at the showers when the unit was busy feeding...
But then something changed.
Veemoss dies. One hundred men on Level Two get fried.
The final domino was the passing of Ulaf.
Something snapped, and that something — that someone — was Kino.
Because Kino Loy wasn't busy keeping order, no.
The opposite:
Kino Loy was readily agreeing to chaos.
Order was an illusion.
The other floors were frying.
No one was getting out of the bottom of this pit.
One way out.
So your Unit banded together and pushed up.
Up, up, until you took the prison for yourselves.
Up, up, until you saw the expanse of a tumultuous sea.
Then down — off the platform, pushed by the other desperate prisoners.
Into the freezing water, where you fought for your lungs to propel you to shore.
Away from Narkina 5.
All without Kino.
You’d lost the fearless leader of Five-Two-D somewhere in the mayhem.
Kino!
The constant of sweaty hands and bustling bare feet made it hard standing still as you shouted his name.
Kino!
A brief moment of relief passes through your body when you see that familiar head of salt and pepper hair.
Your eyes connect. He looks just as worried as you — until he sees that you're safe.
I can’t swim.
You swear you heard it — Kino’s voice, but it's too late.
One burly prisoner knocks straight into you to dive off the platform, knocking you backwards with him.
You lose your footing.
The world is weightless as you fall to the ocean.
Your back collides with the water, leaving you with little choice:
Either you live or you die.
You can't go back for him.
Too many bodies are falling to the depths, and if you don't move, then you may get crushed.
So you choose:
You swim.
You swim and never look back.
.
.
.
.
.
SIX MONTHS LATER
It’s freezing at this outpost.
However, it’s better to be freezing in the Outer Rim than living in fear within the inner cities. That would be a surefire way of getting caught by the Empire.
Besides, you don't hate it here. The people are nice. Everyone mostly keeps to themselves.
You've finally seen the sun, eaten hot meals.
You've built a life.
As you enter your favorite dive of a cantina, you’re met with a swirl of artificial warmth. The bar curls at the center of the tiny establishment. A lone singer, a wanted criminal of the Empire herself, croons gently on the makeshift stage at the far right corner. The air reeks of the seasonal ale.
Scharzi, the Iktochi bartender, gives you a sage nod.
You’re welcomed here, even if you don’t usually speak much.
For the longest time, you spoke with no one.
(Paranoia seeped into your very bones.)
After a few weeks, however, you choose to chat with the locals.
It seems like everyone's on the run from the Empire in one way or another. Fugitives with a past and a present, not looking towards much of a future.
Maybe life is simple, dull, in the Outer Rim, but you all agree on one thing:
At least it’s free.
When you sit and shrug off your coat, you give a bland smile to the bartender and hold up a finger: the usual.
They’ve decorated this hole in the wall better than most.
An assortment of winter decorations, lights and strings, line the low ceilings of this place.
It’s cozier with the added lights. Less bleak and depressing.
Scharzi glances at you briefly as his assistant, a small twi’lek — Phia — earning her keep, smiles at you.
Phia is peppy despite her grave interactions with the Empire, scorned and orphaned, but Scharzi has done the best he can to give her shelter and a place to hide.
To be a ghost, like the rest of you.
“Doing anything for the holiday this weekend?” she asks after pushing a goblet of your usual ale to you.
Glancing up at the eager young woman, you shake your head. “Not particularly.”
“Well, we’ll be open our usual hours. I’m sure Charlie and a few others will be coming around,” Phia cheerfully informs.
She cleans up a sticky circle on the counter as a body takes a seat on the stool beside you.
“Then I guess I’ll be here tomorrow, too,” you tell her, scooting on your bar stool to give the stranger some room.
“You better bring your best holiday wish, then.”
“A wish?”
“Yeah, we always do them here.” Phia glances to the man beside you. “What can I get you?”
He waves her off without a word.
(Not uncommon around these parts.)
“Just tell me when you do want something, alright?” she pleasantly tells him, before turning her back to the wall of liquor bottles to rearrange them. “So? What’s your wish?”
You snort, taking another long gulp of your drink.
"My wish?"
"Yeah! Lay it on me. I promise telling doesn't make it not come true."
“It won’t ever come true, so." You sip again, shaking your head. "I don't particularly feel worried about it not happening.”
“Now that I doubt,” Phia counters, sing-song and light. “C'mon. Try me. Hypothetically, what would you make your wish?”
This is stupid.
Then again, so is trying to survive as hard as you have.
There isn’t a point to it, to any of it, yet you live freely out of spite and spite alone.
(The Empire will not win.)
“My wish. I guess I’d wish for… ha, well, I lost someone.”
You trail off before becoming resolute. Certain.
You see him in your mind’s eyes — the way he ducked his chin while sitting on his knees, staring you in the eye with the promise of a better tomorrow.
You earned this.
Your heart clenches.
“He, uh… I think he passed away a few months back. I don’t really know what happened to him. I hope it didn't come to that, but it was unlikely he survived. I think my wish would be getting to see him again, some day.”
The awkwardness of Phia’s stare makes you down the rest of your ale before giving it back.
“Mind topping me off?”
The twi’lek nods solemnly, taking the ale and disappearing around the semi-circle bar to bring you a fresh pint.
His words linger on your tongue, sticking to the roof of your mouth.
You earned this.
Living.
Breathing.
Being.
“Bloody awful wish if you ask me.”
The stranger beside you speaks up.
Their voice is baritone, low with an unmistakable growl.
You almost drop your drink from the shock.
In a flash, you whip your attention to an older man staring back at you: white curls with a growing salt and pepper beard, shorter in height yet twice as intense in the eyes.
His cheeks and nose are reddened by the cold outside.
Maybe Phia laced the ale with something, because you know you’re not drunk.
Maybe you’re tired. Hallucinating.
Or maybe—
“Should spend a wish on something that’s not so easy to come true,” Kino Loy grunts, setting his hands on the bar top as he regards you.
You can’t speak.
Won’t.
You’re too afraid to blink the illusion away.
The older man stares you down, waiting in silence until Phia brings back your second ale.
“Mind giving me what she’s having?” he asks the young barkeep, knowingly making her take a second trip around the other end of the bar to give you space.
"Sure thing! She likes 'em strong, hope that's alright," Phia chirps.
Kino thumbs at his nose. "I'll do my best to handle it."
You haven't stopped staring. You're sure Phia notices your wide-eye gaze.
It doesn't matter, because no matter how much you blink, Kino is still there.
He keeps his chin ducked while he waits to be alone again, before his voice smooths out the edges.
(Just like he always did, when it was only the two of you.)
“Didn’t bring a bloody bouquet of Queen’s Hearts with me, but—”
“How?”
You hate how much of a bark the question is, but the blurt must come before you’re rendered mute.
Kino’s mouth presses to a thin line of regret.
“Is this real?” you whisper, voice dropping to a whisper of uncertainty. “Because I heard—”
“I know.”
“And I saw—”
“I know,” he repeats with a heavy sigh. “It’s more complicated then what we have time for tonight. I’m not here to relive the past, kid. Maybe another night, but not this one.”
Your brain reels with memories you once swallowed so far down they stuck to the pit of your stomach, now threatening to spill here:
Kino Loy, alive and well, at the very Outer Rim city you’ve been hiding in all this time.
“How the hell did you find me?” you quietly reply, absently tightening your grip on the handle of your ale as you process the scent of him.
Faint cologne lingers, new, but it’s still him.
It’s still him.
Kino mumbles a thank you to the twi’lek bartender who then disappears once she hands him the ale, allowing you the illusion of privacy in this cantina.
“...you’re not easy to find, I'll give you that,” he explains, taking a sip of the ale.
His eyes slip close, relishing in its taste, before taking a second, much bigger gulp.
“Had to ask around, but I remember you mentioning this place. Remember you mentioning a couple of places, figured maybe you chose to hide out on one of 'em."
"And you..."
"Went to every single one? Yeah," he supplies. "I’m not one to waste time. Not when we’re living on a borrowed case of it, so I hit up as many places as I could. Finally found you on this one.”
Kino allows a moment to pass, settling his ale back on the bar top, before he leans in.
You don’t move, mesmerized by the way his chest rises and falls under his gray tunic.
Alive.
Alive, alive, alive—
“I told you once that we’d get the hell out of that shitehole, once and for all, and I’d buy you whatever drink fits your fancy at the nearest cantina.”
The man reaches a slow, cautious hand from the table.
Magnetism draws you in, desperate to feel something stable, something warm.
Eventually his palm connected with your cheek and you’re threatened with a surge of emotion.
Same calluses. Same stroke of his thumb.
Simultaneously, you both suck in a sharp breath — two octaves of the same relief.
It’s as though an electric spark flows between you, and you find yourself nuzzling his palm with a longing that’s propelled you for six straight months.
Kino chuckles under his breath at this, only to move in closer.
His other hand cups your face, cradling your head in his reach.
“Sorry I couldn’t find the bloody flowers,” he exhales. “Not exactly welcome at the pearly gates of Naboo, if you could imagine that.”
“I don’t give a fuck about the flowers, Kino,” you inhale, earning another rumbling laugh from the older man.
“No, didn’t think you would.”
When you slip your eyes open, you see him shake his head as if mesmerized by what’s before him.
You stare right back, raising your hands to gently rest against his.
Kino studies your face in the dim lights of the cantina, Adam’s apple bobbing from a thick swallow.
He frowns briefly, as if plagued by a morose thought, before his shoulders droop.
There’s so much to say.
So many doors have closed…
Yet reuniting with the man who taught you to fight to live feels like a fresh start, all the same.
“I’ll take that drink, though,” you murmur, forcing a tired smile to play on your lips.
The former unit manager’s eyes instantly drop to your mouth.
“Whatever you want, love, so long as you’ll have me.”
The smile on your face grows.
He mirrors, huffing and smiling back — only to drag you in for a searing, devastated kiss.
For the first time in years, hope is within the confines of your galaxy.

What are you favorite DMC character dynamics? (outside of Dante and Patty) Which ones would you want to see more of?
Hi, dear anon, thank you for sending the asks! It`s pretty fun to write them and I hope it is entertaining for you to read the replies
Sooo, the answer should be fairly obvious here hehe. DMC is a series that is literally built around the Loser Sparda Twins, much more than any other game series that comes to my mind. Dante is the heart and soul of the games - he is the living impersonation of the family theme, which is the underlying main theme of the games, underneath all the fun demon slaying; Dante is the core of the games, so that makes Vergil the living impersonation of all the struggles that come with family bonds, and at the same time he is the main advocate and victim of the 'fun violence' the series is known for. I don`t think you can like the series without falling heels over for these two blockheaded idiots and their family drama.
Actually, the family drama is how I ended up in the DMC. I saw the trailer for definitive 5 (the one that goes 'Hes your brother?; Hes your father; Nero is my son?'), the one that shamelessly spoils the plot, and hell yeah I`m down for that. So I checked some videos, bought 5 and Vergil, and here I am, in this very deep and sticky swamp known as DMC.
As you can probably tell, I adore Dante&Vergil trying, failing, and trying again to restore their brotherly bond. I have all the angst/hurt/comfort gen fics bookmarked in their respective tag on ao3, and I mean ALL of them.
Their duality and the way twins embody the principle of complementarity towards each other is fascinating to me. It is also why I adore the ending of 5, and have no idea where to take the series in a possible next game, since the conflict that the series was built upon since the beginning has been solved.
You`ve asked about the relationships other than Dante&Patty, but its like my second favorite in the franchise, I have to write some words about it. I adore them because I believe Patty came into Dante`s life at a very low place, and he really needed someone to be there for him, even if he himself out loud said he wanted to be left alone. Patty was persistent and sweet in a way a small girl can be, and her constant pestering was a good distraction and a helpful nudge for Dante. Also, her backstory is way too close to home for him (an orphan on the run from demons) and I think that protecting her (like covering her eyes to hide the bloodshed) did give him some closure with his own childhood trauma.
Other relationships... and mostly fanon-made. DMC is extremely character-centric, yet not character-centric at all because most of the emotional stuff about anyone fans have to guess or make up. Sooo this is just headcanons below mostly.
Dante&Nero! I think Dante is the Uncle material, if post-twins-return he will start actually trying to be an uncle he would win the Worlds Best Uncle Award for sure. However, first he would have to explain a lot to Nero and that would be...interesting to see. Weve seen that Nero can hold his grudges for a long time (just like his dad), so fixing their relationship is gonna be a big task for Dante, but I also think Nero can come to understand why Dante acted the way he did and forgive him. Nero also very slightly partially to blame because, kid have you looked in a mirror? Ever? But its probably just...a writing loophole. Anyway, back to the uncle and nephew - I`d love to see them share interests! These two obviously have a lot in common, so it`d be fun if they tried to rock jam sometime, have an arms practice, talked guns, etc. It feels like Dante would be up for pretty much any activity together. Also, the noogies. Nero gets ALL the noogies for the 20+ years they should have known each other. There is no escape.
Vergil&Nero are great, of course! I`m sure they can work out their relationship together. Vergil is good father material, he`ll do just fine.
I`d love to see the sparda trio do something together! My personal headcanon is that they would all enjoy a symphonic rock orchestra show (because orchestra makes the classic rock songs sound almost better than the original, and I`m projecting very much here)
I really want to see more Nero/Kyrie! They had very little time to show their relationship and they are very sweet) And Kyrie herself really needs more screentime, her only character trait is pretty much 'neros girlfriend' and she needs more than that. Her concept art in armor is GREAT actually, and it should`ve been the one in-game. There is a fic on fanfiction The Emptiness is so Real by Night Companion where I think the author capture the Kyrie we should have gotten. The Kyrie that has grown around church, but also very close to military men and she should know the consequences of their lifestyle, as well as be able to help them. Her kindness should not be unassuming and naive, but firm and deliberate.
The undercharacterisation issue goes the same for Lady, Trish and Lucia. All of them need actual arcs and development and badly. Lady had a very tiny little bitty hint at having her own emotional struggle with family drama in 5, but that`s just not enough. All of them are almost identical to their first appearance in the series, and while, understandable as they are side-characters, this becomes a huge problem when they are returning side-characters, in every game entry. The ladies need their own stories.
(sidenote: I don`t ship Dante with anyone, mostly because I feel like he has had quite enough problems on his own and a relationship on top of that would only drag him, and the person down. But if I were to ship Dante with someone I`d go with Lucia)
Other characters that I wish had more character are the Devil Arms! They were very sentient and talktative in 3 and we had Balrog in 5 ('Ignite the flame NOW' gives me freakin chills every time), so I hope we get a little bit more of that. There is a headcanon that Yamato is 'she', and I fully support it and want other Devil Arms to have some character traits of their own! (King Cerberus, my beloved, gimme more of the elemental doggo)
Thank you for the ask! Have a great May day)

A 'fun' fnaf x Transformers Animated crossover idea.
I'm going to be working with the theory that Fnaf Pizza sim takes place in 2023. So after the events of pizza sim we know someone took over Fazbear Entertainment then made, Fnaf Ar, Fnaf VR: Help Wanted, and eventually the Mega Pizzaplex. It would have taken years for something like the Pizzaplex to be built and it would take even more time to build up enough money to make something like after Henry dissolved the company. So I would say it took around 20 odd years for the Pizzaplex to be built making it 2053 and as we know tfa takes place in the 2050s.
So after the events of Fnaf Ruin and a continuation fan work that I'm making that's 90% self indulgence and 10% what I seriously want to happen in the future of the franchise, that branches off from a Fazbear Flights au that I posted memes for here and never posted any more content of since. Cassie, Roxy, Mxes in a psyhcial form (probably inside of Glamrock Bonnie), Eclipse, and the Stitchwraith (their mostly here because my poor like meow meow doesn't have that much fan content and I wanted Andrew to have a connection to Monty, seriously u don't just introduce a ghost kid who wears an animal then a game later they introduce an animatronic based on the animal of the mask and make them havw nothing to do with each other), are on the run from The Mimic and whatever else was done there with Mxes no longer being able to contain it forcing them to leave the Pizzaplex.
Unfortunately they can't stay with Vanessa, Gregory and Freddy because they would be found much more quicker that way, so they end up traveling by themselves cross country to stay with one of Vanessa's relatives in Detroit who happens to work at Sumdac Tower. Since Detroit quickly became the home of the Autobots no one questions why this little girl is almost always seen with these sentient broken down robots.
Since technically Vanessa's relative, who shall be unnamed for now because I haven't thought of one, is Cassie's legal guardian for now they must have told their co workers at some point and thus they get invited to Sari's birthday party from the episode Sound and Fury. They end up becoming quick friends bonding over the fact that most of their friends are robots and because a complaint I keep seeing about Sari is that she doesn't have any human friends or anyone but the bots and her dad to relate to.
Soundwave doesn't get turned into a Decepticon because Mxes realized something wasn't right and started blocking out Megatron. So Megs has to get inventive of how he was going to foil the Autobots plans and rebuild his body. Mxes basically ends up becoming the Autobots digital security working behind the scenes to prevent Megatron from fucking shit up more.
At the end of it all Cassie hopes she doesn't have to leave because this is the most safe she felt since going to the Pizzaplex that fateful day, because with all the weird alien shit that happens if a random Gitchtrap cultist, a mimic controlled bot or the Mimic itself, tries to attack them odds are an Autobot would be close by to step in to save them.
And the angst potential of when the Autobots try to leave of Cassie having a bit of a mental breakdown because being with them was the safest she felt before The Mimic tried to kill her, other than when she's with Mxes. Then everything about her past and why she moved to Detroit in the first place just comes out and the Autobots are just shocked. Then Andrew and Jake in the Stitchwraith comes along like 'yeah it isn't just the mimic we're on the run from but the digital download of the serial killer that killed Andrew as well'.

Istg ZoSan brainrot is the worst of my life
Modern AU (mind you, I don't have any clue about showbiz and/or modeling, so eh 💁🏻‍♀️ I'm taking some liberties)
Zoro and Sanji were besties at school. They also had a huge crush on each other neither one wanted to admit. One day, Sanji just disappeared. Zoro experienced the worst feelings of disappointment and betrayal because of that.
The thing is, Sanji is the third son of the big-ass Vinsmoke Corporation. He ran away from his blood relatives, because of abuse and neglect, especially after his mother died. When he ran away he was threatened to never make any claims to the Vinsmoke name. He then lived on the streets until Zeff took him in, and he could live a relatively normal life, as the Vinsmokes apparently just forgot about him.
But the peace didn't last. Reiju eventually reached out to Sanji. The Vinsmokes threatened to do something horrible to Zeff and his restaurant, and possibly anyone else who Sanji holds dear, if he didn't come back to the Vinsmokes. So he just went. No time to say goodbye to Zoro.
The next years, Sanji lived in a gilded cage. The Vinsmokes forced him into model training, so he could at least be of some use, while they were waiting for Charlotte Pudding, daughter of another big-ass company, to become legal for Sanji to marry, just so to seal a business deal between Vinsmoke and Charlotte. Sanji absolutely hated this life, but he did as he was told, so he could protect his loved ones.
Meanwhile Zoro started to express his feelings into song, and while he was still in school he gained some internet reputation on the side as a ghost songwriter/composer, and after he finished school he very quickly gained internet fame as a solo artist under his own name (who also happened to be a skilled kendoka and martial artist on the side, built like a Greek god and an absolute hit/eye-candy for both women and men 👀)
Skip forward to both Sanji and Zoro being quite famous, each in their own industry, and they know about each other only through media articles.
Sanji is not married yet - even though Pudding is approaching legal age, it would damage Sanji's/the Vinsmoke's reputation, if he were to marry someone who is barely legal - so the wedding will still have to wait.
One day, Zoro gets a business proposal for a promotion of a new product/franchise. They'd like his music, but since he's so good-looking, they also want him to model for promotional material. The catch? It's a collaboration with the Vinsmoke's most famous model - Sanji.
Of course, Zoro is reluctant, but in the end his curiosity wins out. He just wants to see Sanji again. And yes, he still has that crush on him. Meanwhile Sanji didn't have any choice, the Vinsmokes agreed to this proposal in his name. Sanji is conflicted about meeting Zoro again, as he also never overcame his crush on him and wants to keep Zoro far away from the Vinsmokes to protect him, but on the other hand, being close to the action himself might be his best chance at protecting Zoro.
So they eventually meet 👀 hot moments and drama and angst ensue, bc they realize they're very much in love with each other. But Sanji sure as hell doesn't come clean about the Vinsmokes, with what surveillance on his ass and all that jazz, and Zoro just doesn't know anything about it and is heartbroken about Sanji. That is, until Zoro's adoptive father Mihawk, another filthy rich corporate owner, tells him the grim machinations of the Vinsmokes in general. Zoro wanting to have a talk with Sanji, finds a limping Reiju on the run instead. She had overheard a conversation between Pudding and the Charlottes, about a plan to "kill the Vinsmokes after the business deal is through, and make it look like accidents and/or acts of self-defense" so that the Charlottes can take over the Vinsmoke business. Reiju is hurt (bullet grazed her) bc she was caught eavesdropping, and is now on the run. Zoro wants to take her to a doc, but Reiju wants to keep everything secret, as all of the Vinsmokes including Sanji, are now in immediate danger. (and authorities won't do shit, bc money) So Zoro goes briefly into hiding with Reiju, and she tells him everything about her family, the Charlottes, and Sanji. Zoro feels fucking bad about himself for not noticing Sanji's hardships earlier. Reiju begs him to at least save Sanji, as she herself believes the rest of her family deserves what's coming for them, but not her innocent baby brother.
So Zoro goes on a quest to get as much help help as he can; the strawhats making it possible to get Sanji out of Vinsmoke/Charlotte clutches, and hide him away, and Mihawk and his influence and money making it possible to wage a legal war against the Vinsmokes/Charlottes. The whole thing was a scandal in the media. Eventually Sanji gets the chance of making a public statement of denouncing and rejecting the Vinsmoke name, and officially and willingly ending his modeling career. Zoro never made an announcement, he just stopped being a solo artist and went back to ghost songwriting/composing instead. After the media attention died down, Zoro and Sanji, finally a couple, moved in together.

I totally forgot to tell yoh guys that I’ve been watching the new Goosebumps show btw. I like it. I hope it gets renewed. My review is gonna seem lukewarm but please bear in mind I watched it all which says everything if you understand how rare it is for me to finish a season of anything let alone with long episodes - like that on its own is a massive compliment.
Anyway I thought it was a fun take on the Goosebumps franchise as someone who literally learned to read & grew to love reading specifically because of the Goosebumps books. When I tell you those books WERE my childhood I’m not kidding. Teachers came up to me & told me to stop reading & go play at recess lol like that’s a core memory I have from middle school. I LOVE the books & just the universe of Goosebumps. I love the original show & even like the Jack Black movie.
The cast of characters was fun & the situation made them a fun group much like another recent fave of mine, Fright Krewe (terrible comparison because I love Fright Krewe 1000x more. go watch Fright Krewe if you haven’t. for real). If there’s one thing about me it’s that I do love a group of teens thrust into a spooky scary situation & forced to be besties. I think this was an incredibly strong premise for a serialized version of Goosebumps with recurring characters & so much of it - like the parallels between the teens & their parents, the backstory with Harold Biddle, the horror & Stephen King References, the mini plots that built the main cast up & brought it all together when we realize the haunted items effecting them are all connected - there’s so much to love.
Unfortunately the love triangle & its focus does take up a LOT of screen time & this is from someone who is a bold defender of love triangles as a trope in teen media. This one just falls flat & makes otherwise likable & engaging protagonists cringe to me. The issue is that I enjoy the plot & friendships outside the love triangle & all characters involved are MUCH more engaging when they’re not angsting over their love triangle drama. They all have so much more interesting stuff going on I just want to scream at them to shut up about the love triangle shit. But maybe I’m just getting old & cranky who knows lmao
Anyway I don’t think this show is groundbreaking or anything BUT it’s a lot of spooky fun & one of the rare new shows I’ve actually gotten sucked into lately sooo that’s my opinion lol

Hey! Glad you made it, I'm the Gardener. I reblog a lot of random stuff like fics I'm absolutely in love with, artworks that catch my eye, funny memes... It's chaotic, but such is a garden. Beautifully chaotic ;)
I tend to go back to art when I'm bored so I may post my artworks here.
I love music. It's my therapy. Music from the 80s era till date? I know a majority of them, and by majority, I'll beat anyone and everyone in a 'Guess the Song'. My favourite artist? Hard to choose. Same goes to favourite song, because it really depends on my mood and how I change as a person. Though, off the top of my head, I love me some Adele, Ben Barnes, Guns N' Roses, Queen, Avicii, Built by Titan.... Yeah, it's a long list.
Fandoms? TV? Call me geek because I memorized every single dragon species in the HTTYD franchise. All. By all, I mean I watched the series too. Here are some shows I fell in love to start with:
The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance
How To Train Your Dragon
Harry Potter (Both Marauders era and Golden Era)
Shadow and Bone
Marvel
Star Wars
His Dark Materials
I'm pretty confident this list will continue to grow but as of now, that's all I can think of. Also, I'm a very proud ENFJ/P Gryffindor!
I am open to requests. Real sucker for angst, however I will NOT be writing anything NSFW. I am uncomfortable with writing it, that and I have quite a busy schedule.
Kindly DO NOT copy my writing on any other platform without my explicit consent. Reblogs are more than welcome, but I will not stand for people stealing my creativity and claiming it theirs.

I got dragged back into the Sonic franchise recently. Some kid had a comic for sale at a garage sale and I picked it up because I love comics, and have always liked Sonic!
Well, turns out I got the beginning of the Metal Virus arc! Where a certain shadowy doctor makes his second appearance.
Tumblr media
I’m one of those people who loves me a good villain. Needless to say, the art style and his introduction had me hooked. He practically dragged me back into liking Sonic by the throat.
I have now almost completely caught up in the IDW comics, with The Metal Virus arc, Bad Guys, Imposter Syndrome, Overcharged, and Scrapnik Island being my favorites of the lot. /Spoilers for the above below the cut!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
It’s been so fun. I love the art style, I love the characters, I love the world they’ve built. And maybe I’m in the minority, but I still freaking love Starline, even after everything he’s done.
I was afraid they might cop out on his character in the same way Star Vs did to Toffee: Introduce a fascinating new villain to almost rival the main villain, then completely butcher his potential. As we started to get into Bad Guys, I feared this would be the case, particularly since Zavok and Mimic figured him out rather early.
Tumblr media
But THANK GOODNESS, he actually showed to have a brain and recognized his mistakes!
Tumblr media
Needless to say I got even more attached to him. I respect me a thoughtful villain.
Is he absolutely horrible in canon? Absolutely. Surge and Kit’s existence is proof of this. And I can understand why people don’t like him.
But, in typical me fashion, once I have a favorite character, I don’t let go. I love this stupid platypus to death, and gosh dangit if I’m not going to do something with him.
IRONICALLY, despite the fact that I just said i love him as a competent villain, I decided for my story that he wasn’t always that way! What’s the saying behind making AUs and ships? You want to see the characters happy?
Well, Starline is no exception to this rule. While I’m still working out the bugs (I started my AU/early canon story, so some things clash with him personality wise by the end of his saga-(they really seemed to drop the suave, poised doctor aspect really quickly, didn’t they?) I have a whole early history with him and my OCs being friends. (Because I need fluffy before the angst and trauma that follows of course.)
I’ll leave that for another post though. This is just to kind of introduce how this obsession started.
And going six weeks strong, it shows no signs of stopping. (Though I actually haven’t slept well in the entire six weeks because I’m so excited, so that sucks xD but that’s why I’m starting this blog now. Maybe being able to share about it will finally help me sleep. 🤣)
Stay the course! I’ll see you all in the next one.

You're completely justified.
I get it that they were working on it during season 2 or even before planning it, so maybe they still weren't decided if the foot recruit is going to be Casey Jones (Idk honestly, that's how I interpret it). But they had what? 2 extra years to work on it after the season finale? There was so many chances for them to add og Casey (and Draxum by extension) during the third act and give her a small but active role in the movie (SPOILERS i guess: she could easily swoop in and save and April, Splits and other Casey and help them fighting the female Kraang during the final fight). Surely, they could have managed that in 2 freaking years, especially after we have seen what they were capable of in short time in season 2 finale.
Personally, I'm more indefferent to new Casey Jones. He's a fine character and I don't exactly mind him. However, I'd still prefer if he wasn't in it or at least had a smaller role as the time they've spent estabilishing and developing his relationship with Leo could have been used to explore an already existing relationship within the franchise.
The movie is still great(and boys such an eyecandy) and his presence doesn't bother me personally enough to dislike or even boycott it, but I believe I would have enjoyed the movie a little bit more if he wasn't in it at all or at least less.
And while it pains me that you don't want to continue to take part in the fandom after you finnish Stranger, your feelings are not only valid but also justified as the working team could have (and should have) put more effort into making our Casey more relevant.
To end on a lighter note (spoiler-ish i guess), I'm glad that in her short cameo we at least got Casey giving Kraang the middle finger
Mhm, yeah I completely agree with that first part. Even if they were working on the movie and the season finale around the same time, it’s no excuse to not include Cassandra (or Draxum- which isn’t really an issue with sexism but I think it does tie into the problem at heart here: the crew was so nervous about being cancelled they prioritized old tmnt fans who never even liked Rise instead of the audience they have). They definitely had time to figure out how to include them.
The future Casey looks like a decent character on his own, but the context surrounding his creation… it’s just built on issues. It’s sad.
I’m glad the movie is exciting otherwise tho! The art does look amazing and I’m glad there’s some Leo angst, I’ve heard, which is always fun to see. So I’m really glad the fandom is having fun watching it and I’m happy for y’all!

summary - you and ransom had thought of playing a game, a game of jealousy. in the beginning, everything was fine, it was fun, but lately, it felt as though he no longer loved you, that he’d rather the women he flirted with. after the party, do you think their relationship can be resolved?
warning - angst, self-hate, talks of cheating.

You remembered when you and Ransom made up this silly game. Oh, how stupid you were for agreeing to it. You didn’t think it would hurt as much as it did. At first, it was fun. Getting to see Ransom all worked up and jealous, but it changed… Drastically, it changed. You were the one to get worked up and jealous. Maybe it was because he seemed to enjoy other women’s attention more than yours now. Did you push it too far? Was it your fault that he’s falling out of love with you? It couldn’t be, right?
You and Ransom were hosting a party tonight. You weren’t as excited as you used to be. Parties with the love of your life used to be fun, but now with the neverending game... It felt like a punch in the face because no matter how pretty you made yourself, his eyes always seemed to be watching someone else.
You sighed as you stared at yourself in the mirror. The white dress with black outlines clung to your body. Your hair was neatly clipped back, with a few strands framing your face, and you stared into the eyes of the girl you once were. Your eyes were sad, drained, lifeless. The black eyeliner around them didn’t do much, nor did the deep red lipstick that covered your plump lips. The very lipstick that Ransom said was his favourite, but lately, it wasn’t.
Why were you doing this? Why couldn’t Ransom see that the game was now hurting you? Did he even want to see it? Was he happier getting a free pass to cheat because all it was to him was a game?
“Babe, the party is starting. Are you ready?” Your eyes connected with his through the mirror, noticing how he just leaned against the doorway. You remember when he used to sneak up behind you and wrap his arms around you, peppering your neck with kisses until you’d break into giggles, playfully pushing him away. Now, he just stands there… He looked annoyed, like he’d been waiting forever.
You nod, swallowing the lump in your throat. Glancing in the mirror one last time as you smooth out your dress, you slowly head toward the door. Feeling saddened when you find it empty, Ransom has already left, making his way to greet your guests. You had entered the room, already noticing that Ransom was flirting with some beautiful, busty redhead. Her hand squeezes his biceps as she giggles at whatever he says, your heart would squeeze at the sight of his hand resting on her hip, but you’ve become numb to it all.
You smile at your guests as you walk to your built-in bar. Hoping and praying that they couldn’t tell how fake it was, how you no longer felt happy. You made it to the bar, sitting on the stool and waving to the bartender. You give the man yet another very well-performed fake smile while ordering a drink. You don’t dare turn around when you take a sip, not wanting to watch your boyfriend with another woman. You wished you had the courage to end this game and tell him no more. You thought he’d notice the game was over when you no longer flirted with other men, but you guess Ransom was too into his head to see anything else.
“Y/n? Is that you?’ You turn your head slightly, and the seat beside you is filled as a man from your past sits down. He smiles at you, eyes sparkling with the happiness you wish you had. You wouldn’t deny the jealousy you felt by how genuine his joy looked. “Wow! It’s been so long! You look absolutely gorgeous! How have you been?”
You smile softly at his compliment, taking a sip of your drink before you respond. “Hi, Steve. I’ve been good… How about you? Last I heard, you opened your own art studio?” He nods, ordering himself a drink as he continues to smile at you.
“Yeah! It’s honestly the best decision I’ve made. Are you sure you’re okay? I thought you and Ransom were doing well?” You could’ve broken down right then and there at his concerned gaze. You wondered why he would ask such a question, so you turned. Oh, what a dumb decision. Why did you have to turn? Because there stood your boyfriend, with the redhead pushed against the wall as he continued to flirt, his hands dangerously close to her ass and her hands tangled in his hair.
“Oh… Uh, yeah. It’s just an uh… It’s a game that we have going on between us….” You quickly chug the rest of your drink, feeling tears brimming your eyes and the lump in your throat grow more significant. You refuse to look into Steve’s eyes, knowing they’d be filled with pity and confusion. “I–I’m going to… I need some air… If you’ll excuse me….” You quickly stand and rush outside, rushing around to the wall where you can’t be seen. Heartbreaking sobs escape you, your hands flying up so no one can hear you. You let it go, all the pain and heartbreak.
You didn’t hear or notice Steve following you, and you didn’t know you weren’t alone until you felt arms wrap around you, hands stroking your hair as they pressed you into their chest. “Shh, it’s okay. I’m here. Everything will be okay.” Steve held you as you cried, rocking you slightly. His head turns, and his eyes connect with worried blue ones. Ransom had watched you leave the room, and he was confused about why you were crying in another man’s arms.
You slowly pull back, clearing your throat and blinking away the tears. You look at Steve’s shirt and frown. “Oh, god. I ruined your shirt… I’m so sorry.”
“Shh, it’s okay. Don’t worry about it.” He continues to stroke your hair, looking deep into your eyes as he says this. You hear a huff and look over, your eyes finding your boyfriend’s. You notice the frown set on his face before he rolls his eyes and storms inside, probably to continue to flirt with the redhead. You could feel the numbness begin to set in, wondering how long you’ll be able to continue in a relationship where there’s no longer any love. “Hey.” Steve lifts your head, “go talk to him. Maybe this is a big misunderstanding? He followed you out here after noticing you left, shouldn’t that account for something?”
“Maybe…” You blink, your hands coming up to fix your makeup, but what does it matter? It’s not like anyone cared. “Thank you, Steve… Maybe we could go for lunch sometime?” Steve smiles, nodding before he reaches up and begins to help with your make-up, wiping away the mascara.

A few more hours passed before the party finally came to an end. You and Ransom had headed outside to say goodbye to the guests. His arm wrapped securely around your waist. You had noticed his focus had been more on you after what had happened outside. As the last of the guests were leaving, you saw the redhead that Ransom had been flirting with walking toward you both, her hips swaying, adjusting her bra so that her breasts were pushed up.
“Ransom.” She purrs, touching his arm when she stops before him, batting her eyelashes at him. “It was so good seeing you. You’ll call me, right?” You felt sick as his arm slowly slid from your waist, landing on hers as he smiled down at her.
The walls were built too high, and you could feel the alarms going off in your head. Warning you that your emotions were going into lockdown, begging you to feel. You stood there, again watching your boyfriend flirt with some easy bimbo right in front of you and when he looked at you. You could’ve sworn he looked broken. You weren’t sure why, though? He seemed to have what he wanted, but you didn’t know that Ransom wanted you to look at him with love in your eyes again. He wanted you to have the light and happiness in them when you used to look at him. But all he got was sadness. They were no longer full of life, just lifeless.
He wouldn’t admit it, but seeing you with Steve felt like a stab to his heart. Ransom could tell the smile you gave Steve was genuine, one that you’d only faked with him recently. Before he could say anything, you left, turning your back on him and walking back into the house.
“Can you just fuck off already? Jesus, why the fuck would I want some bimbo when I have the most amazing woman in there?” He growled, glaring at the whore in front of him.
“Really? You started flirting with me! You fucking asshole!” He felt the sting on his cheek, but Ransom didn’t care. He needed to win your love back. Ransom thought you were enjoying the game. He was an idiot for agreeing to it. Why did he do it? Why agree when he didn’t even find any other woman attractive? Ransom only wanted you. He wanted the whole package. Marriage, kids, grandkids. But he only saw that with you, not these worthless whores.
He stormed into the house and on the way to his room. He quickly realised his many mistakes, the flirting and the distance. Ransom had realised he didn’t compliment you on the stunning dress you picked out, god, he loved the dress. He loved that you wore his favourite shade of lipstick on your lips, the lips he loves kissing, the lips he’s missed.
As Ransom reached his room, he felt his whole world shatter around him. There you stood in front of the mirror, studying and judging yourself. He watches you cup your breasts, pushing them together and up, how you turn to stare at your ass. Ransom slowly stepped into the room, and your eyes snapped up and connected with his saddened ones. He could see that you tried to wipe the lipstick off. A beautiful shade of red was smeared across your cheek. Your hair was down and messy from the clip being torn out and thrown across the room.
“Princess–”
“Don’t.” You glare before turning and heading to the bathroom to wash off your makeup. Ransom follows. His heart was heavy as he thought of ways to make it up to you.
“The game was a stupid idea… I shouldn’t have agreed or continued to flirt with those women.” He leans against the bathroom door, continuing to talk even though you don’t look at him. “I don’t want anyone else, not since I met you. Hell, I’ve even had thoughts of starting a family and marrying you, only you. Anytime I try and think of doing that with anyone else, you are the only one I can think of.” He blinks back the tears that threaten to spill, “I’m the biggest idiot alive. I had the most beautiful woman on my arm and left it too late to see it.”
You stopped halfway through, taking your make-up off, staring at him through the mirror as he continued to ramble on. “If you mean that, why were you so close to her against the wall? Why did it seem like more than flirting?”
Ransom groans, rubbing his face. “Because I’m stupid! Because when I saw you and Steve talking, I realised how close I was to losing you forever!” He moves closer, spinning you and grabbing your hands. Ransom stares you in the eyes. “I always knew that you deserved someone like Steve, hell. You deserve so much more than this life, and when I saw you giving him a smile I haven’t seen since we started this stupid game. I lost it, and I became a dumb man.”
Your lip wobbles, eyes brimming with tears as you stare up at him. “And then, when I saw you rush outside, he followed you. I felt like I had failed, especially when I followed and saw you in his arms. My god, Princess, I love you! I love you! I love you! My heart is literally in pieces, I’ve been an ass, and I’ll do anything to get you to forgive me!” He drops to his knees, pressing his face into your stomach as he breaks down. “I’m so sorry. I’ll understand if you pack up and leave me forever.”
The tears fall from your eyes, and your eyes slowly close as your hands find their way to Ransom’s hair, trying to calm yourself by running your fingers through it. “How do I know I can trust that, Ransom? How can I trust your word of loving me when you seemed so happy? The game didn’t mean for you to distance yourself from me… You chose to avoid me. How can I trust that you won’t break my heart?”
He buries his face deeper, hugging you closer. “I’d rather stab myself in the heart than break yours.” Ransom stands, looking down at you with puffy red eyes. “You don’t have to forgive or trust me tonight, tomorrow, a week or a month. But I will stick by your side as long as you will have me, and hopefully… Hopefully, one day you’ll take my last name.” You look up at him, breathing heavily as your mind and heart struggle with your decision. He strokes your cheek before leaning down to lean his forehead against yours, a whisper falling from his lips. “I love you, Princess. I’m always going to love you.”
“...I love you too, Ransom… Always.”

relatiobnships ask game tell me about umm ummm [trying to think of who you havent been asked for yet] SAM AND MAX.right now
THEYRE JUST FUNNEY LITTLE ANIMALS. HEHEHEH MY CREATURES
describe their canon relationship/dynamic
wait the entire series is built on their dynamic bc 95% of the point of sam and max is just them talking to each other but how do u even. describe it. uhh. Absolutely Terminal Amounts Of Banter. also beating each other up. theyre so?? they just walk around Constantly making jokes just for the others entertainment and also often lightly insulting each other. & also theyve known each other their whole lives and theyre soul bonded. they literally cant be apart from each other for more than a few seconds. seperate them and they both immediately become deeply depressed. theyre codependent. and they show affection by being a little mean to each other and throwing each other through walls. (well sam throws max through walls. i dont think max could lift sam. he bites him tho)
your ideal/headcanon version of it? how does it differ from how it is in canon & why is this your favorite version? any other alternate versions of it you enjoy?
aside from the fact that my brain probably remembers them slightly differently bc i havent seen them outside of short clips in a while. mostly im just. the same as 90% of sam and max fans where its. What if they were the same but they got married 90 times for fun. but arguably they have gotten married in canon so
what do you like about their relationship, why is it interesting or enjoyable to you?
THEYRE LITERALLY JUST FUNNY. they are just very funny as individual concepts and significantly more funny put together. their interactions are great for their interactions are the backbone of their franchise. also i love codependency
what about the individual characters involved? what does this relationship mean to them, what makes it unique among their relationships?
They literally dont know how to exist without each other <3 if sam does not have his little freak there to bounce witty lines off of everything else completely loses meaning. if max does not have his bestie there to hear his deranged comments then hes just being deranged on his own and thats no fun. they met when they were like 8 or something and now its been decades since they were in different rooms for more than a few minutes. they need each other there is something wrong with them and it works for them so its OK
favorite interaction they have in canon
UMM we dont. see it. but i think maybe the thing said in some article or interview or something abt them meeting bc max stole sams lunch back from kids who had stolen it from him. I Think It Was Something Like That. i love that. also i like the opening scene of the thhhird episode of the first telltale game i think? where sam is tossing max up in the air like a baby so he can reach the darts board & then the phone rings and sam stops for a second. thinks abt it. then throws max against the wall so he can go get the phone. (this isnt like a one time thing its a running gag thru thr whole series that whenever the phone rings they physically fight to get it (and sam always wins). but thats my favorite instance bc of the little *pause* *thinking* *tosses max over his shoulder slamming him into the wall like a sack of rice*)
favorite interaction they have in your head/a situation you want to put them in
oh man i dont know. 305 angst. sam n max fans will look at the 1 serious part of this immensely silly consequences might as well not exist franchise and go Is anyone going to get hung up on this forever and make emotional content about it? and not wait for an answer. and theyre right. hey telltale wh. how did you come up with the devils playhouse. why did. what the fuck is the city that dares not sleep who thought of that. steve purcell approved this. hello? hello?
okthats all thank you <3

Writing of Monsters - Frankenstein and Bride of Frankenstein
Grace Doyle
After its initial release, Frankenstein (1931) proved to be one of the most successful horror films of all time. Not only did it develop many motifs and themes which drive modern horror, but it skillfully crafted a narrative which ties in themes of morality, philosophy, and the ethics of life and science. Frankenstein came at a time when cinema was quickly adapting and developing to the modern world: due to its release at the turn of the silent film era, it spurred one of the most influential film franchises in horror cinema. The second film within the series, Bride of Frankenstein (1935), proved to be subversive in its storytelling as it fortuitously built upon the story from the original film.
The film opens in a way which reflects the prologue written by Mary Shelley in her original work. Elsa Lanchester portrays the author, discussing the events of the first film with her husband and Lord Byron. She explains to the men that, despite her delicate nature, she conceived the story of the monster to present a lesson in morals to her audience. In this sentiment, director James Whale combats the censorship issues the studio previously faced during the 1931 release. As written, “This prologue attempts to instill literary authenticity to the sequel, partly in the hope that it will prevent the censorship that almost ruined the first Frankenstein film, as the cultural angsts of the Great Depression found expression in the sublimated monsters of Universal Studios” (Smith). Not only does the opening continue the story established within Frankenstein, but it sets up the success for Bride as a film which aptly discusses themes of repression/oppression, identity, and belonging while fitting into the criteria outlined by the Production Code.
Despite its title, Bride of Frankenstein revolves around the original monster and his further developments. The greatest contrast between Bride and the prior film is the fact that the monster has learned how to speak. Subtly, this allowed audiences to further connect with and feel empathy for the character, as he desperately tries to connect with those around him. He befriends a blind violinist, who teaches him speech, before he is chased off by the mob, still pursuing him for his antics from the previous film. Simultaneously, Frankenstein has returned to his laboratory and meets Doctor Pretorious, who persuades him to continue his efforts in reanimation. Together, they raise a glass “to a new world of gods and monsters”.
When the monster returns to the lair, they decide to reanimate another creature to befriend him: this time, a woman. Despite her ridiculously short screen time, the titular bride leaves a lasting impact. Also played by Elsa Lanchester in a dual role, the Bride’s style is derivative of 1920s/30s German expressionism, with her contrasting makeup and iconic tower of black hair and lightning bolt streaks. Although she is not on-screen long, the way she reacts to her situation is progressive. Instead of clinging lovingly to the monster at first sight, she is horrified, not only by him, but the other men around her. Further, the trio portrayed in the beginning of the film is a direct reflection of the Bride, Henry, and Pretorious, giving their final interaction a very different meaning. “Mary's line ‘So why shouldn’t I write of monsters?’ in the prologue takes on a fresh significance when looked at through the doubling of roles by Lanchester. Instead of being ‘a devout but nearly silent listener’, Mary Shelley in Bride of Frankenstein articulates a ‘monstrous power that informs the bride’s shriek of refusal,’” (Smith) . Both Mary’s introduction and the reaction of the Bride within the films first and final scenes portray a message about the rejection of stereotypical gender roles in society.
