I accidentally came across it, and I encourage you to report them and everyone interacting with their work. There is a difference between dark romance, dark fics, and straight-up romanticization of children being assaulted.

They write about these children actively partaking and enjoying it, hoping they can please the adult taking advantage of them. These works are clearly written for the type of person that gets off on it.

it was very comforting reading you apologizing to those who thought your association with natalie meant you were like her, because i was one of those people. i was always afraid to reach any of you @ indigenousrph because i thought you were all entitled and hostile since lots of your psas and your answers were rude :( and i'm indigenous myself lmao only not from north america, so every time i was curious or i had doubts about other tribes and wanted to ask something it gave me a lot of anxiety and preferred not to. so... it's good to know, even if it's just words for now, you're not like her and that we'll probably find a lot more kindness in the rph blog from now on. and just to clarify in case it is needed: i'm not saying this in a bad way, i don't intend it to sound hostile or like i'm judging you because i'm not. i'm just sharing how i felt before ergo how important reading your apology felt and why. i'm really relieved natalie is out of the community, but mostly, out of the native community within the rpc because i don't know much about how other tribes work around the world, but mine is so welcoming and we fight so much to be seen and for our culture to be known that encountering people who act unkindly towards those who want to know us and want to support us was very unsettling to see/read. anyway, thanks for the space. hope everything just gets better from now on and i'll be paying attention in case i can be of use in any way to you or any other natives around!

firstly, i wanted to address any of my behaviors that were off-putting. YES i have been less than 100% kind at certain times in my life. when it comes to psa's, what i can think is that i've been SO tired of either saying the same things, or constantly fighting for something, and seeing it not change or people not care, definitely does get to me. but now that i'm older (even by a fucking year or two) and in a field where my entire job is to be patient, kind, and compassionate, i have a different outlook. and for any answers to any public questions or anons i get, i apologize. because unless somebody is being outwardly rude, i shouldn't be getting an attitude when it comes to indigenous education. anything i may have said (and this is not an excuse) may have come from me having a bad day or being stressed out, or from me repeating myself! i know for one, i always talk about it doesn't matter how "much" you're indigenous. if you are, and you want to reconnect, then you're indigenous! and i've had many people over the years ask "but what about me!" and give me their specific instance. which yes... even you! but in regards to MY personal attitude over the years, that's on me. and if i don't feel like i'm in the right mind to answer something correctly or kindly, i'll take a day or ask others for insight on my tone or response. so i thank you for speaking about that because i WAS aware of it (after i did it and wasn't in the same mindset anymore) and felt guilty, but just... never spoke about it. secondly, i apologize again that my association with natalie has ever stopped ANYBODY from approaching me! i've seen it mentioned that people would ask dev (or even cat) questions because they didn't want to approach natalie, therefore they didn't want to approach me. i'm not apologizing because of MY behavior in regards to what natalie did (only apologizing for my behavior in the first paragraph) but i understand that many people had this sentiment. because who wouldn't! if you see somebody who's unkind to you or your friends, being hateful, bullying or belittling people, why wouldn't you think people who support them are also that way? i'll say it once and i'll say it again, i had NO idea natalie was being so unkind. i was probably one of the few people she never said anything nasty about anybody else to. but i promise that if you come to me on or off anon, i will do my best with what i can! and if i can't answer something, or don't have the emotional bandwidth that day (because truly my job takes a lot out of me + i'm stressed about starting grad school in a few weeks) i will let you know. lastly, i think i speak for all indigenous peoples here, we love any and all groups of indigenous peoples! it doesn't start and end with north america. any place where you are an indigenous person from deserves respect, a place to speak, and a community you can talk to. i know when it comes down to specific talks, it's always nicer to have people from your specific country (if not specific nation, if that's at all possible) but depending on where you're from (not just you, anybody) that may not be available in the rpc! so we're always here for you guys. just know that! i've never had an issue with my indigenous friends, besides natalie but she wasn't even indigenous so i'm not counting her. thank you again for sending this in and sending you so much love. and i apologize if i forgot something or didn't say something right - i'm honestly just free balling and posting without re-reading!

Next week is going to be hard. I have two job prospects, but if they fall through, and I can't get a job until the end of February, it'll mean I have to go to social services and lose the flat (and more, obviously).

I'm terrified that will mean all the mental help I've had in the past half year is going down the drain, and I'll end up where I was. Because I can't take that anymore. Not again.

I'm tired of hoping.

My #1 post of 2022

I've been trying to find a difference between religion and superstition, and I'm not satisfied with the results.

Religion can be simply defined as the belief and worship of a God or gods. On the other hand, a superstition can be defined as a belief in supernatural influences or a practice based on this. (x)

Since god is definitely a supernatural influence, that does not convince me. Also, religion absolutely has practices based on beliefs. Lots.

What it boils down to for me is, "It's religion because I say so," or semantics.

Also, just a little PSA on the subject of “Things I’m kinda over bothering to engage with” in the new year:

Guys, please do me the courtesy of assuming I know that everything I say or post about is in fact my own subjective opinion, and address it in the vein of just being something I personally think or believe instead of something I’m trying to mind control all of tumblr into accepting as gospel truth. 

I can only speak on my own viewpoint, and just because I don’t pepper every other sentence with reminders that all of this is just IMO or my interpretation of things, I’d appreciate it if other posters didn’t try and engage with me as though I don’t understand that people can have different interpretations and the masses need you to protect them from me bullying them into only seeing My Truth as valid.

Disagree with me all you want! I’m totally down to defend my reasoning or logic or interpretation with anyone as long as I feel like they’re coming into the conversation in good faith, but I’m just gonna literally Not with the people who hop on my posts or into my inbox to remind me that I’m not the boss of other people and don’t have a right to strongarm people into having just my opinion and no other.

Tumblr’s a largely opt-in experience, and while I certainly have my faults, I do a pretty good job at not regularly hijacking posts by people I disagree with and largely just create my own posts specifically BECAUSE I’m not trying to convert everyone to the One True Interpretation To Rule Them All and am literally just out here saying what I think and feel about shit. Yeah, I’m vocal and opinionated and forceful in a lot of my takes, but if all that makes you not want to be my friend, the block button is your friend and I promise I’m not gonna be hunting you down to ask Literally How Dare You for not engaging or interacting with me. 

I one hundred percent with total sincerity PROMISE you that when I rant about something I dislike in terms of fanon trends that I have not actually forgotten that people are totally allowed to and justified in continuing to write fanfic in ways that I personally do not like or agree with. That isn’t actually ever in question or being threatened by me saying what I think about a particular trend or why I feel so strongly about it. You wanna have a conversation or debate about where our thoughts on a particular trend diverge, or why some people might feel so strongly about a trend that others think is no big deal, again, we can do that, but “this is what I hate about x” is never actually a post threatening to put all fanfics featuring x on the endangered species list, so would be super hella cool if we didn’t engage in debate tactics that treat vocal fandom opinions as though they’re actionably hostile and an active threat to anyone who disagrees.

I’m not one to typically do this sort of thing and the fact that it’s at that point where we have to is bothersome to me. I’m an admin at a multi-fandom role play, we’ve been in the tags since the 13th and since then we’ve received a series of asks asking about My Little Pony, why we have it as banned, if muns have to get permission for a ship before doing said ship, if same sex relationships are okay, all of which we have answered happily. When the asks were published we received warnings from other role players that the wording and the way these questions/topics of these questions are being asked sounds like an admin from forgottenfriendshiprpg.

So with these warnings, we did a little digging ourselves and it adds up completely. Here, here  and here you can find a whole blog dedicated to the call out of said admin and her co-admin (who goes by Jazzy, Jacqueline, Jasmine, or Alex. Co-admin goes by Jade). I went through their entire blog and blocked every single one of the members from that rp, we’ve blocked their main and their new main which is manilarpg and they’re STILL sending us hate. I personally have never even heard of this role play until we got warnings about it, this wasn’t even on our radar and for some reason they have nothing better to do than to send us hate??

There was more hate we’ve received from them that we didn’t answer but we have taken screenshots. We don’t like to post negativity on our main, or character blogs because we as an admin team want our members to feel comfortable and safe. I made a post addressing the situation and telling them to stop sending us messages and just leave us alone. Surprise, they didn’t stop.

We have never once implied that we don’t care about friendship and kindness. If anything, we’ve been nothing but kind. But now I’m pissed off, so.

I don’t even know with this one, but still the same person sending us hate.

*Note: This isn’t hate, but it is still the same person. We know this because their use in caps for RPG and good ‘ole freehostedscripts. We did answer it, but because there was so many triggers in one ask we deleted it. Our answer was simple. Yes, we are a safe place to roleplay. We have a handful of LGBTQ+ characters in the role play and we don’t bully anyone because we believe love is love.

This is a warning we got from a friendly anon. This is not the only warning message we have recieved, this is just the only one I screenshotted at the time to show the other admins.

This is another warning we’ve received. Names and pictures have been blocked out of respect<3

This admin claims that she has changed, but it’s very clear that she has not. We’re notthe only multi-fandom roleplay she’s attacked either from what we have read on the other blogs calling her out. This roleplay is COMPLETELY toxic, the admins are toxic, they have FC’s who are above 18 playing minors, the youngest being sixteen. This PSA is not to attack anyone, but simply warn people. Though, do I really have to with the amount of warnings there already is for this particular set of people? I bet you my top dollar once this is posted I’ll be getting hate sent here too honestly. I’m not sure why people are still applying for these groups honestly, but at this rate if we keep getting hate sent to ours we will see to it that we get their role play shut down.

I'm not a native speaker and I need a little help deciphering one of the prompts: Gaslight Gatekeep Girlboss.

I have no trouble translating the three words separately, but I would guess the three words together as an alliteration have a sort of colloqial meaning? If yes, I'd appreciate if you could explain it or point me in the right direction.

Oh gosh I'm certainly no expert myself, but I'll do my very best to explain! (Putting part of the answer under a cut because this explanation got LONG.)

"Gaslight Gatekeep Girlboss" is a meme that started here on Tumblr (and subsequently spread to Twitter) earlier this year (2021) and quickly gained widespread popularity. It's a parody of "Live, Laugh, Love" - a phrase that in itself has been made fun of for some time now because it is usually associated with a certain stereotype of middle-aged (white, straight, American) women. Specifically, the type of women who are entitled, rude, and usually wealthy. The kind of person who will bully a waiter for making a small mistake, like mixing up a drink order. (If you are familiar at all with the "Karen" meme/stereotype, this is the kind of person we're talking about.)

SO - Gaslight, Gatekeep, Girlboss follows the same "3 words with alliteration" structure as the original Live, Laugh, Love catchphrase. Because L/L/L was originally meant to be an uplifting/inspirational motto, G/G/G is usually presented the same way. (For example: "Yas queen! Gaslight, Gatekeep Girlboss! 👏" However, it is usually used ironically, and in reference to antagonistic female characters. (Such as Mean Girls's Regina George.)

In some cases, the phrase is also treated as a spectrum, with each word as a separate archetype - as you can see from this post using the three terms for three different Disney villains. Or one of several quizzes that will assign you either Gaslight, Gatekeep, or Girlboss, depending on your results.

That isn't to say that Gaslight, Gatekeep, Girlboss is used in only negative contexts, however! Because of the nature of irony and the way things spread across the internet, even things that might at first glance sound like insults often also end up being used affectionately to refer to certain trends or characters. So this phrase isn't exclusively used for villains or widely disliked characters! Take this fanart of the powerpuff girls or this edit of Wanda Maximoff from WandaVision for example - these are characters who are objectively the heroes/protagonists of their own stories.

If you're still a bit confused or would like to read more, here's an article as well as the Know Your Meme entry for Gaslight, Gatekeep, Girlboss. (Both of which I consulted myself when looking for the best way to explain this.)

Two quick disclaimers that I feel I can't skip over (for any and everyone reading this post):

1. For the purposes of this specific event, keep in mind that the focus is on positivity. This is a celebration of a character. Any prompt fills for this day that are aren't in the spirit of character appreciation won't be featured on this blog. (That being said, censorship and exclusion are also the opposite of my goals here. I will default to assuming that fills are made in good faith!)

2. "Gaslight" is a term that has been showing up with increasing frequency across social media spaces. Unfortunately, it is also increasingly being used incorrectly. In this context, it's all fun and games, but if you come across more serious accusations of gaslighting while you're out and about on the internet, please please keep in mind that this word has an actual meaning. It is not just a general term for "being mean" or even "bullying." I won't make this post any longer by going in depth when there are plenty of other resources out there, but this has been a friendly psa that words mean things!!

The problem with CC: her latest book was presumably "stolen", as in, a fan got the book for free in a contest and uploaded it online. She ranted on twitter (presumably the person in cause was a minor) and then she shared a video with someone making fun of the situation (a 14yo girl) and attacked her. The girl in cause received death threats and such due to Cassandra's followers. You should check in on twitter. Its the reason people on tumblr went on an URL changing spree. Check the anti cc tag.

I went through the the whole thing right now and I agree that Cassandra’s reaction could have been better.

As a writer, I understand her pain (yes she is famous and ‘probably won’t be affected’ financially) and anger and frustration - but the aftermath of the leaking and that retweet of that meme could have been avoided. 

I feel horrible for that kid who got bullied (I am pretty sure she was just being a teenage kid making memes about a bad situation and that does not call for death threats - NOTHING calls for death threats)

But we also need to think about this - WHO are these people sending these death threats? I am NOT taking the blame away from Cassandra by any means - but my point is who are these people who are sending hate asks on Tumblr to people who support Cassandra (who are anti cc) and who are these people sending death threats to children (who are pro cc)

As I mentioned, what feels like hundred times, before - this is escalating unnecessarily. Please do react to controversy and drama - but be reasonable about your reaction. There is so much bullying going on right now (ON BOTH SIDES - it is not okay and it must stop)

Let me get this straight.. a roleplay resource/meme blog decide to screenshot someone's rules and call them out because of what they wrote? when obviously those who follow them could easily tell. Frist of all whatever rule someone wrote isn't there for one to go out of their way to bad mouth them. If there's something in a persons rule I don't like I'll be an adult and move the fuck on, not screenshot it and drag their name through the dirt. Christ! at this point I don't trust no one who runs those resource/meme blogs. They might hurt someone else with their nosy asses. And that Raven person needs to grow the hell up and stop playing the victim. Do something else with their life, stop living off the internet.

You're right and they were right as well. It doesn't matter how strict or aggressive someone is in their rules, if you find that or anything else about them objectionable, that RPer is obviously not for you. That's a very important part of reading a RPer's rules, it isn't just about their reply speed, preferred topics, or tagging needs. It's also about gauging whether this is a person you're going to work out with or not based on both the actual rules themselves and how you feel about the way they're presented.

You just ascertain that, feel as annoyed or salty or even offended as you so desire, and move on. Like an adult.

It was never going to be that way, though, Raven specifically went to that blog to be a nuisance and call them out. They were already invested in doing so from a perspective of having decided this RPer was being ableist because a post that reflected the statements made in those rules far more nicely and more applicable to their followers was taken that way. Somehow. Raven took it upon themselves to ignore that the mun did make multiple statements regarding the entire thing, including polite ones when their post wasn't being reblogged with maximum hostility and accusations and constant throwing around of the statement "full stop" like lol please, take your own advice. Because, yep, full stop it's valid to have whatever opinion you do, it isn't valid to jump on someone's post like that and be upset when they aren't nice to you about it.

Also took it upon themselves to ignore that the mun is also autistic, which was the crux of Raven being a dick about it. This isn't fair to ND people, you're being ableist, it is my holy mission to decide who and what is ableist, broker no discussion from anyone that doesn't support my behavior, because I'm autistic and this upsets me personally. Probably because that mun doesn't repeatedly make it a big deal on their blog and on their every PSA. Making a not wild assumption there, since I don't either, and I was also an ableist swine for disagreeing. At the same time that I like myself too much, I hate ND people lol if you figure that one out, let me know.

That's been a lot of the issue here. Many if not most of the muns they ended up doing the most damage to are mentally ill, autistic, chronically ill, and so on. It was fully irrelevant to Raven and Co, despite all of them espousing that we never know what is going on in the lives of others.

That's why we really need to just feel whatever we're feeling and not interact instead of going on a crusade.

As you said, this RPer's mutuals, writing partners, and friends were all quite aware of their rules. Those rules have existed for the better part of four or five years as they are today, the people who have chosen to interact are on the same page with them, and it must be working out well. After all, Rules Mun was so deep in enjoying their hobby that it took a random, concerned, good resource/help blog they reblog from often telling them that their rules were being drug around the RPC quite a bit after the fact for them to know. I'd say that would probably mean their interactions and friendships weren't exactly negatively impacted by their tone.

And those people, as well as former writing partners and mutuals-in-law very much did know it was that mun's rules, yeah. You really have shot yourself in the foot when RPers with some animosity between each other take issue with what you've done to one of them, and that did actually happen as well. People knew.

Furthermore, since that mun didn't know for some time, even if they had been inclined to change the rules to appear like it wasn't them for the sake of anonymity, it wouldn't have been hard to find them. It was still identical to how it appeared Raven's posts (yes, posts, multiple), the mun was already getting shit for their PSA from the same group, and like everyone else, has an identifiable pattern in their OOC speech. They were quite identifiable.

In no way was not just dropping the URL doing anyone any favors. It was just keeping that mun from going directly to Raven and being the polar opposite of myself in the way I tried to address it. Like everything else, it was Raven insulating Raven while trying to incite bullying and bullshit.

Sadly, I agree with you on the meme/resource blogs. I can think of such a small handful of them that I feel are trustworthy adults not interested in stirring up trouble. I'd love to recommend them, but at this point, I'm really afraid of mentioning anyone directly in a positive way. I would feel so horrible if I said, "hey, everyone, the following meme muns are helpful, have a great reputation, and are very nice people, please give them a follow if you haven't already" and it ended up in them losing followers or gaining harassment because I said it.

I don't reblog many memes because that isn't my primary function here, but when I do find those that I feel are very unique, helpful to muse development, and so on, I don't reblog from sources that give me red flags. So, that's probably a good clue!

I'm just sorry this is such an environment of mistrust and bad will, it so easily can be otherwise by doing precisely as you've said. We've all a right to having issues with things, we even have the right to argue with each other, but we don't have the right to turn it into bullying and mob rule. When you have a blog that isn't your more private space of a RP blog, you're taking on a responsibility to be a bit better than giving in to our actual worst inclinations. It's just even worse because this entire experience proves that there are far more RPers here who feel the way you do. It really is a comparative handful of muns out there pulling this kind of shit, but unfortunately, that's all it takes when they're engaging in full-time harassment campaigns and extremely loud about it.

Cool Cat Saves The Kids

I watched this movie and I still can’t believe this is the actual cover art for it.

God I wrote so many notes about this that even my flipping Bullet Points were basically an essay. I don’t even know how to begin just thinking about it hurts my head.

Overview: Cool Cat is Cool. Things happen to him, and he has to deal with bullying.

That’s it. That’s the thing I watched. Because there is no Real Flipping Plot to this movie.

This is a kid’s show. Or at the very minimum, a movie that is intended for children. It was based on a kid’s book series I’ve never heard of whose author Derek Savage decided to turn it into a movie. Though movie isn’t exactly what I would call it. When you watch it, it honestly feels like there are six 15 minute shorts that they just mashed together to a feature film, but even then that is a Generous Description.

Basically, the film tries to be a children’s program (and I guess has beef with Barney?). And you can see intent behind it being informative child-friendly psa. But the execution was so bad.

First, there is no plot. Sure the cover says that this is “an anti-bullying kid gun safety movie,” but it really give you nothing. What would happen is that Cool Cat has a problem, like someone bullying him or his friends. It would either A) be addressed immediately and solved so that’s great, or B) it is dropped immediately and never really addressed throughout the rest of the film.

And example of A is that the bully kid Butch just starts stealing candy just to be “evil,” Cool Cat sees that and chases him, and the kid gets arrested twenty seconds later. The End.

For B, Cool Cat gets a mean email. And...that’s about it. He responds to the email, but doesn’t actually address the issue and the subplot drops entirely until that VERY Last wrap up scene.

I think the reason for this lack of plot is that there was just WAY too many messages in here. Like, take a shot every time you see a psa announcement. It ranges from don’t bully, how to deal with bullies, being creative, crossing the street safely, to fricking GUN?! Like, the gun thing that I Guess was promoted in the movie tagline, only shows up the last 10 minutes. It caught me so off guard. You cannot call this a Gun Safety movie when guns aren’t even prevalent!!

And the lack of plot is counterproductive when you want to make a Kid’s Movie like this. If you want to tackle each issue as a show or a short, the messages would come across better. There would be more time to develop each message for kids to really understand. But because there is So Much to cover, a lot of the things are gonna fall to the wayside. There is no way a kid would pay attention to this, and if they do I doubt they are gonna learn everything that Derek Savage is trying to teach. There just isn’t any real focus.

The acting, god like they Tried to go with the kid friendly vibe, but was not working. At All. It was like they thought that to add emotion is to just enunciate your words as loudly as you can. Cool Cat was way too yelly. Every line he was just screaming, has no change whatsoever. Even Elmo can sound sad when need be (fucking love Elmo, but he does has a similar voice vibe to Cool Cat, just better).

Then the kids....I don’t want to be mean but I’ll be blunt. They are just reading lines, this is a middle school stage play basically. I’m not blaming the kids, Butch look like he had a hell of a time doing his villain laugh. It’s just that some of the scenes felt like it was taken in one shot and they didn’t bother to retry. Example: One kid got too excited and jumped his line, but they couldn’t just retake that??

And the lines, man. OOF. Some of it was bad. Like, really really bad placement.They should have had someone proof-read this.

Cool Cat: “Why Are You Painting That Wall?”

Random Kid: “Because Nobody Loves Us”

lol what?

Maria: “I bet those kids have never been shown love before.”

Cool Cat: “Thanks, and it’s all true”

LOL What??

There are just a LOT of lines like that that should have been rephrased.

THEN there are the freaking technical issues.

The audio kept fluctuating in sound quality, which honestly started to hurt with Cool Cat’s constant yelling. Some scenes it sounds like they recorded in a studio, sometimes it sounded like the actors had to yell in order for the camera to capture it. There were echos, there were layers, you can’t hear the lines over the song, you can’t hear the song over the cheers. There was one point whispers overlaid on top of the lines where I thought that Cool Cat just got haunted now. And the fun side of having headphones on means I heard the phone button noises in only One Ear. LOUDLY.

Blocking could have been better. There were a lot of backs to the camera, shots of characters walking away from camera not just off screen. This didn’t bother me as much, because I know this isn’t professionally made. But it didn’t feel like they really tried as much as just half-assed it. Example:

Cool Cat was drawing a picture with different colors, but the actor only used one marker and just said different colors. Or Cool Cat is working on a poster but really just rubs the already completed poster  on a clean table as him “working.” Like, how hard is it to just film on a table with a bunch of craft supplies around you?

Then there are the questionable camera shots. LOTS of lingering shots to I assume fill up run time. These are shots of just showing Cool Cat walking round without having any real purpose. It shows Cool Catwalk all the way Up Stairs. Walked all the way Down Stairs. Walking into the House, walking into the Car. Even just shots of the parents doing things with no real motivation or impact to whatever Cool Cat is doing. It’s just there. If you want to say stuff like "oh well its to show the parents relationship" no it doesn’t. You can’t really add nuance to characters when the rest of the film is just one chaotic shot after the other. It just gets lost in translation.

The music number is probably what hurts me the most. You see Cool Cat WRITE the song. Then he SINGS the song. Then he DANCES to a DIFFERENT song. And that was it. He just needed the song for the parade, but there wasn’t any explanation or anything. I don’t even know WHY he needs the song for the parade! There was no explanation. It was just an excuse to have two back-to-back bad music video of poor choreography that again, NO POINT to whatever plot/message/psa thing he is trying to do.

I get that there should be some leeway since it looked like this was shot at Derek Savage’s house/neighborhood, so there really isn’t much they could do with their setting. But they could at least tried more with what they had. Cool Cat’s room doesn’t look exactly child friendly. There are only blank drab walls with two, maybe three posters of just Cool Cat himself. There is a reason the settings in other children shows have vibrant colors to engage them. Along with that, another half-assing moment was Butch graffiting Cool Cat’s poster, but it was one of those political posters you stuck on the lawn so it was like a foot tall outside. 1) You can’t really see that shit that small. 2) You couldn’t put the poster on a wall to film that scene at, to give a better view to the audience? It’s just a bunch of little things like that all over this film that really adds up.

Also, what’s with the posters only being about Cool Cat in his own room? A bit narcissistic if you ask me.

I'm also like 70%,sure they made this movie around the footage of them being in the Hollywood parade twice. They were at the parade, got the film, and wanted to use it so they made a movie for it. And I know it was twice because the announcers that were there to announce the arrival of Cool Cat had a costume change after switching scenes.

And after ALL of this, there is just so many random shit that really don’t do anything. Elements are randomly introduced and just as randomly dropped. We get a “next day” transition in the middle of the movie when days have already passed before them. Cool Cat breaks the 4th wall a couple of times with no real reason why. There is this joke where the camera was following Cool Cat into the bathroom for Cool Cat to ask for privacy, only to just ignore that bit every time he goes to the bathroom afterwards. Cool Cat just makes random ass noises when doing things, not important stuff. Just Doing Things. And he does this weird thing where I think he is trying to do Air Guitar, but it just looks like he is just shaking his leg a lot. I don’t really get it.

(Oh Shit, it is only after like the 3rd proof-read of this review I notice that in the gif you can clearly see the dude’s actual leg. I don’t know how mascot suits actually work, but I’m pretty sure that you’re not supposed to let kids actually see that there’s a person underneath in a kid’s show.)

There is also this....lowkey humblebrag going on? Which does not do the movie favors. After the first dumb song number, Derek shows off that he has a signed guitar by Van Halen. Like not just him playing it (which after the 15th zoom in on the guitar how could you NOT notice it thank you Derek), but pointing out to the audience that, Yes it was Indeed signed by Van Halen. Then there is the footage from the Hollywood Parade about the cars there. Sure, I get showing off like the Ghostbusters car, or Jurassic Park car, or the Batmobile. But Hurby the Love Bug? Night Rider?? Starsky and Hutch??? Magnum P.I.?????? The target audience is elementary kids, they aren’t going to know these old shows. So who is this for exactly?

Kudos to the cop for actually doing this, seriously. That cop probably had a hell of a lot of better things to do than arrest children for a bad after-school special.

And this is just SOME of the main problems of this film. There’s so much going on it would be impossible for me to go over everything without

The thing is, there is good material here. Maybe not great results, but there are a lot of ideas here that you can work with to make a decent kid’s movie. I actually loved the part where Cool Cat is dreaming and trying to figure out how he should handle bullies. I thought that was a good scene and a good way to show kids how to think through different options. There are good ideas here, but it was just way to much going on at once the movie basically shoots itself in the foot.

So here is My Version of what Cool Cat should have done. 

Cool Cat is running for School President. That’s the main story line. Early in the movie he learns of a writing contest where the winner gets their own float at the hollywood parade (stretch but roll with it). But Cool Cat has no idea what to write, and talks to it with his friends who offers ideas. So he is juggling that along with running for Student President.

However, the Butch the Bully doesn’t like that. He doesn’t want Cool Cat to win. So he vandalizes his posters. Cool cat still runs and makes better posters. Butch tries to frame Cool Cat for vandalizing the playground, but instead his cronies get caught and convinced that it was a bad idea. So Butch decides to cyberbully Cool Cat and his friends to scare them off. He works with the other kid running for President to make a hate ad against Cool Cat, telling everyone how terrible and bad Cool Cat is. Cool Cat tries to go against this my making his music video song over how cool he is to swing the votes, making Butch more angry and vindictive to his bullying scheme.

Cool Cat doesn’t know how to get Butch to stop, but after getting advice from his friends, parents, teachers, and some hard thinking, he decides to confront Butch about his bullying issue, tell someone, and thus solves the problem. Later on after talking to Butch, maybe manages to convince him to start being friends. 

Finally, Cool Cat uses this scenario to write his story about how to deal with bullying and make new friends. Which wins and we end with the Hollywood Parade.

Is this perfect? No. But it focuses the idea to one main plot (running for president) with the other issues naturally coming off of it, instead of making each issue it’s own separate thing. There is no random shifts in narrative, no GUN moments (or GUN in general we kick that shit out) and just focus on the main bullying theme.

Overall: This was a weird and bad children’s show. You have to put in a lot of effort into making a movie, but there was just too much going on for this to be a Good Children’s Movie, least of all a Good Movie in general. But it isn’t to say that it wasn’t morbidly enjoyable. It’s was like playing Spot The Difference to find all the Wrong Things in here. It was fun in a bad way.

So will I show this to children? No. But will I play a drinking game with my friends where we take a shot every time someone says the phrase “Cool Cat”? Yeah that sounds enjoyable. 

Take a shot for every time you read “Cool Cat” in my review.

Side Note:

You had this as a GUN PSA, wtf are you doing holding a gun!? Given how the only 3 videos this channel has is only Cool Cat Trailers, I’m assuming this is official Cool Cat. Soooo.....what the hell?

I JUST WATCHED THE FINALE AND OH MY GOSH MY HEAD IS SPINNING I HAVE SO MANY THOUGHTS

I’ll give you my quick thoughts and then jump into Muffy because you already KNOW I am saving a whole section for them

Celia’s growth was amazing. I love that she went from being strict to being so carefree and trusting of Bex

Bex in that wedding dress 👏🏻 Bowie in that Tux 👌🏻 like they didn’t have to do that but they did 😭

The slow dance was SO CUTE OMG

I loved that all of them sang lady Gaga- the song was perfect for them but sad Garren wasn’t on stage with Sofia

However, they showed the ships singing together and whenever they showed Buffy they showed Marty so I was like 😩😭👏🏻 ya know

TJ playing the piano was all I could have asked for

I LOVED the scene when Cyrus and Buffy talked about “relationship woes” like wow. 😭😍 that hurt because the parrallels were so blatantly obvious but Terri made sure to take EQUAL time to explain their woes with each character.

Also WTF KIRA STOP TOUCHING TJ AND PUTTING YOUR ARM ON HIM. This has been my PSA

I LOVED watching TJ just RIP into Kira. Boi 👏🏻 told 👏🏻 her 👏🏻 off. He literally called her out for bullying and asked her to stop (likkkeeee not only was it great bc he was protective boyfriend mode™️ but because he showed growth. He defended Cyrus for something he used to do). It was great and a no Kira redemption was the best way they could have done that and it was was beautiful. 💯

I loved that Jandi scene! I have said I am actually ok with Jandi, but they needed more maturity. Andi needed to find herself and Jonah needed to be ready for a relationship. In time and when Andi can handle conflict, I think they would make a good pairing. But WITH TIME, like they said. Until then, Jonah has the cute bracelet. I think that was such a valuable lesson for kids to not rush something, just because you like someone. Make sure you are actually ready because crushes aren’t all just about endgames (which will sound hypocritical considering what I write next lol) but that they are a LOT of work and you have to have your head on correct to make sure you can handle it. Just *chef’s kiss*

I know Muffy was around this time (sorry my thoughts are so scattered- I am writing this post watching it so not everything is in a congruent timeline) but I am going to come back to them like I said earlier. They have a special reserved™️ section in this post 😍👏🏻

I thought the scene was handled well considering their limits and tried to keep my expectations low, but TBH I was pretty bummed they didn’t actually say the words that they liked each other. I wish there was more dialogue than vague questions ya know? Oh well 🤷🏼‍♀️

I was also really REALLY hoping for some canon Muffy and Tyrus scenes at the party and kept checking the time stamp during the last scene hoping they would show SOMETHING but they didn’t say anything. Even just a quick “Hey I’m dating this person now and I love them all my uwu’s” would have been fine but it was like that was completely forgotten

However I’ve seen a few Tumblr posts about someone working on making fic text posts with the GHC talking about their canon ships so I’ll take what I can get :)

The Andi Shack and Andi getting into SAVA didn’t surprise me, but it was sweet

I really liked the whole side by side photo thing they did

What did surprise me was Jonah saying he loved Andi 😭 like that was such a sweet sentiment and I was just like, “Alexa play I Cried by Jonah Beck” you know?

Kinda also dissapointed we heard nothing more about Jonah’s panic attack’s, the hole in the wall, and possible Kippen Siblings

REALLY REALLY want an Andi Mack movie- they made a Lizzie McGuire one after only two seasons so they could with AM to address any plot holes (BUT IF THEY DO IT THEY BETTER HAVE CANON MUFFY AND TYRUS JOIN SO HELP ME BC MIRANDA WAS GONE IN TLMM AND I WAS READY TO SHOW HANDS)

Also other side note: I got kinda frustrated with all of the dancing/singing scenes. Like they were cute but also felt like a lot of wasted screen time (much like 3x19 or the Jonah/Cyrus camping scenes) when other plots could have been addressed

And no speaking lines for Amber? At all? Like...? Even with the Jonah stuff? Or redemption paralleling TJ. IDK seemed a lil wack to me

Muffy:

Again, Alexa play “I Cried” by Jonah Beck BECAUSE OH MY GOSH THEY WERE MY EVERYTHING

Surprisingly didn’t cry as much as 3x14 but I think that’s because I was shaking so bad (seriously I looked like I just went through a terrifying haunted house and stayed overnight in it, my hand trembling so much)

I rewatched the scenes WHICH ONLY MADE IT WORSE BECAUSE I CRIED MORE

I enjoyed writing my fics, but really really liked the way Terri handled this

I loved all of their scenes dancing together and it was funny because after Cyrus and Buffy talked, Buffy was like, “he doesn’t like me” but then Marty spent the ENTIRE night like RIGHT NEXT TO BUFFY. Not with the other girl. Literally physical space is not a real thing with them. Watch when they dance, or when they see CeCe in the Dino costume or any other time, Buffy and Marty are ONLY next to each other and Marty even moves closer to Buffy when they are all huddled around CeCe if you watch closely enough

Gonna get back to the asks in a second, but before I do, I want to pass along a quick PSA to the Pokémon Tumblr community.

One of the most important things Bill has said (in canon) is that every life has value and potential, no matter how small. Now, we could get into Discourse about exceptions, but that'll get us sidetracked. The point is that for the most part, it's important to view others as not inanimate objects but instead as fellow living beings.

Which is to say it's important to ... well. Not bully others. Jokes about bots aside, remember that the people you meet online are, again for the most part, not usernames and nothing else but instead people. And it doesn't matter how bad things are for you or how much you hurt, either. You can't know what the other person is going through, and you don't want to be the person who says something that ... well, you probably get the picture, given that this is Tumblr.

(Speaking of, this includes on your own blog. One important thing to remember is that Tumblr isn't a private community. If you namedrop, vague, and so forth about other people, it'll get back to those other people eventually unless you do something like lock your blog, keep your stuff out of search results, and keep your follower count low. Trust me; I've been on both sides of that—and regret being on the giving end. It sucks, knowing some of the stuff I said in what I thought was private hurt others. Don't be like younger and stupider me, folks.)

To put it in short, it's difficult when you're hurt and angry, I know, and it's easy to forget about this point with the anonymity of the internet, I know, and it's easy to get caught up in things and get carried away on Tumblr, I know, but ... it's still important to try your best to be good to each other as much as possible. And be good to yourself as well. You're a life full of worth and potential too, you know. And that's the best advice Bill can ever give you, and I didn't even write it.

I saw in one of your tags that you mentioned how 21 pilots made emo pretentious and im actually curious about why you say that (not hate i just never knew about them that much)

my friend you have asked me about a topic i am very knowledgeable and very angry about so prepare yourself for what you have wrought

it isnt just twenty one pilots but theyre just the biggest and most popular example

like. take my chemical romance in the early-mid 2000s aka the peak of emo. it was very melodramatic and theatrical, the way emo should be. there was a presence of “we are not like other people” in a lot of the songs, but it was never just that. it was more of a “we have been cast out and we kinda suck but thats okay.” one of the best examples of this is, ironically, i’m not okay.

take, for example, the opening to the mtv music video:

[Ray] You like D&D, Audrey Hepburn, Fangoria, Harry Houdini and croquet. You can't swim, you can't dance and you don't know karate. Face it, you're never gonna make it. [Gerard] I don't wanna make it, I just wanna...

this immediately establishes the song as being about social outcasts and people who dont fit the mold. the fucking tag line of the song is “i’m not okay” ffs, that really tells you all you need to know about the song. but the important thing is it doesnt take itself too seriously either. the music video takes place in a private school, and shows scenes of the band members eating lunch alone, being bullied by jocks and preps, etc., but it ALSO shows scenes of frank putting swim goggles on in chemistry class and ray drawing on his test with a crayon and then licking it, and at the end they all ambush and beat the shit out of a guy in a mascot costume. all of this is cut up by text saying things like “if you ever felt alone” “if you ever felt wronged” “if you ever felt anxious”

do you see the juxtaposition here? the music video could very very easily be a fake deep bullying psa, but its not, because while theyre getting bullied and playing their music in a garage they are also, unequivocally, total fucking losers for obvious comedic effect. it is a very exaggerated and lighthearted version of real phenomena, which makes it more relatable to a wider audience.

the same can be said about the song itself. it has some pretty heavy and angsty lyrics (”i’m not o-fucking-kay”) but the instrumentals are punchy and energetic and catchy and gerard’s vocal delivery is very theatrical but also very deliberate and he still puts real emotion in the words. it sounds like its taking the piss out of not being okay, which is exactly what i as a clinically depressed 13 year old needed, and i bet a lot of other people can say the same. i’m a loser and thats okay. i fucking suck in school and thats okay. i feel shitty and thats okay. i’m not okay and that, in itself, is okay.

with twenty one pilots, on the other hand, there is no theatrics, theres no taking the piss, theres no over-the-top melodrama that made emo what it was. 

take, for comparison, the opening lines of heathens:

All my friends are heathens, take it slow Wait for them to ask you who you know Please don't make any sudden moves You don't know the half of the abuse

and this presents, immediately, one of my biggest criticisms of twenty one pilots: their rampant appropriation of mental illness.

because my first thought when hearing this is as an abuse survivor and someone with ptsd they can kiss every single square inch of my ass.

Welcome to the room of people Who have rooms of people that they loved one day Docked away Just because we check the guns at the door Doesn't mean our brains will change from hand grenades You're loving on the psychopath sitting next to you You're loving on the murderer sitting next to you You'll think, "How'd I get here, sitting next to you?"

they try to do the same kind of nuanced poetic lyrics that my chemical romance did and in my opinion is just doesnt fucking work because they take themselves SO. FUCKING. SERIOUSLY. it sounds JOYLESS. 

and the song closes out with this:

Why'd you come? You knew you should have stayed (It's blasphemy) I tried to warn you just to stay away (Away) And now they're outside ready to bust (To bust) It looks like you might be one of us

this is what i mean by pretentious. there is a clear separation of the person/people from whose point of view the song is told and the people the song is meant to be listened to by from the greater population, but theres no high energy or comedic self deprecation to counteract it. 

now take some lyrics from heavydirtysoul, a song i actually really like the sound of, im not just shitting on this band bc its not to my taste yall:

There's an infestation in my mind's imagination I hope that they choke on smoke 'cause I'm smoking them out the basement This is not rap, this is not hip-hop Just another attempt to make the voices stop

Nah, I didn't understand a thing you said If I didn't know better I'd guess you're all already dead Mindless zombies walking around with a limp and a hunch Saying stuff like, "You only live once." You've got one time to figure it out One time to twist and one time to shout One time to think and I say we start now Sing it with me if you know what I'm talking about

right back at it again with that appropriation of mental illness symptoms! and some dumbass critique of our generation that doesnt fit in with the rest of the song at all, closing out the verse with “we are not like you” shit. the vocal delivery at least has more energy than heathens, but the lyrics just feel like a mishmash of different points theyre trying to make that have nothing to do with each other.

the best line of the song is undoubtedly “death inspires me like a dog inspires a rabbit” but its poetic just... for the sake of being poetic? its one of those lyrics that sounds like someone came up with and was like “bro we gotta put that in a song” but then couldnt actually figure out how to fit it into a song in a way that would flow. another example of this is “i cant drown my demons they know how to swim” in bring me the horizon’s can you feel my heart. not shitting on bring me the horizon, i really like sempiternal, but thats another line thats just poetic for the sake of being poetic. and to be put on t-shirts. i know this because when i was 12 i had a shirt that said “i cant drown my demons they know how to swim” on it.

i could do more analysis on other mcr songs, namely welcome to the black parade and famous last words, but i would be here for literal hours and idk if people actually care that much.

to sum my points up:

they take themselves too seriously. they appropriate and romanticize mental illness (forgot to mention that top’s website, at one time, described their music as “schizoid pop” lol). they pull a lot of “We Are Not Like Other People..,.,.,,...” shit. 

that last point is not inherently a bad thing, for example the new slipknot album is literally called “we are not your kind” but the song that contains that line as a lyric is all out life, and corey taylor is screaming that entire song and the instrumentals are reminiscent of speed metal with how fucking energetic they are. its edgy and its GREAT. twenty one pilots just sounds like they think theyre the shit.

also, and i want you to read the following sentence in a bass boosted voice to best understand how i feel when i say this:

the twenty one pilots cover of cancer is an embarrassment that completely misses the point of the original song and changed it into a weird amalgamation of lo-fi synth pop.

emo music is dead. thank u and goodnight.

An FYI to those who come across that person's post. The inner world isn't JUST a metaphor. It can also be used:

- for the brain to carry out threat simulation*

- to express emotion safely when you don't have a way of safely expressing it externally

- to provide comfort by way of dissociation, because we with DID naturally dissociate when times are hard so to have a maladaptive daydreaming like element to your relationship with the inner world is relatively common and understandable

*by threat simulation I mean it will play out alters dealing with situations similar in nature to what they deal with outside because the brain is always on high alert. So a protector inner world might get into a lot of fights or stand up for strangers, it's like mini rehearsal of successfully navigating conflicts

So if like us you find it can be intrusive sometimes (for us specifically when pain has been unbearable lately) that doesn't make you fake. Also our alters are semi-aware that the outside world exists when they're inside. This is unusual and we know this, but not unheard of. They aren't constantly thinking about outside or able to think about it in detail but they know it exists enough to understand that someone had a hard day fronting and is in a bad mood, or to remember things they've learned out here that they wouldn't have learned inside (mostly healthcare related for us).

You might not like this very much but we tried living with the assumption our inner world was our headspace instead at OPs insistence and it hurt, confused us, and brought our brain to a dizzy foggy standstill. Now we have our inner world again like we used to and guess what we can function again. Here are some people who know all this about our inner world and had no issue with it:

- Diagnostician #1 (UK Expert in DID)

- Therapist (has decades of experience working with DID)

- Therapist 2 who is taking over while therapist has surgery (has less but lots of experience with DID)

- Us

So I'm afraid if you don't like the way our system works you're going to have to deal with it. We're sure of ourselves and someone with absolutely no psych credentials making a tumblr post isn't going to frighten or bully us into hiding or changing the way we work, and we hope that by taking this stance we reassure other systems who don't meet the criteria a known abuser with absolutely no medical training is trying to enforce

Just a small note; long rant under cut. This rant involves a personal experience involving internet libel and bullying. Please use discretion if this makes you nervous or upsets you.

I would like to begin this statement by saying that no names or urls will be mentioned for the sake of privacy and to protect the identity of those involved. The bullies in question has been blocked and since reported on all active accounts and at this time no legal action has been taken. I do not condone the act of call outs, cancel culture or witch hunts. I am simply seeking to explain my side of things in hopes that if one comes across these falsities involving my name they will be sensible, rational, and think twice about their validity. Please feel free to open up a dialogue with me at any time (work/sleep schedule taken under consideration) and I will be happy to speak with you. Not just about this unforeseen issue, but in general. Please also have the decency to approach things with a respectful mindset as I will be nothing but respectful with you.

In light of a recent conversation I feel I must address this issue as the individual in question seems to have made an unfortunate resurgence. Just under a year ago, in a misguided attempt to use my writing as a means of self-therapy to combat a past trauma I had endured, I decided upon using a narrative in a single AU verse with a single RP partner. Due to some very negative responses from one single individual (I’ll refer to them as A) that narrative had since been abandoned and deleted. However, A brought it upon themselves to perpetuate their false perception of the situation without a rational attempt at speaking with me. Instead of trying to clarify my reason for choosing to participate in something that we, in all actuality, found mutually repugnant, they decided to send me a very harassing message. (I still keep the screenshot of it for legalities sake).

At that time I thought nothing of it. Just a troll trying to shame me for something which offended them. Like most trolls, I expected A was in a very bad place emotionally and was simply deciding to take a shot at low hanging fruit. As such, I responded flippantly. (Please do also not that I personally suffer with extreme generalized anxiety and panic disorder and while I don’t recall every detail of that evening, I do remember I was trembling uncontrollably). I spoke with a few friends about the incident, and they helped me feel better about it. I expected it was over and done. I was incorrect.

A had taken this out of context narrative and my flippant post and decided to call me out, involving a small group of fellow anti’s, perpetually spreading misinformation about the entire situation and framing screenshots to fit their narrative. I wasn’t too upset at the time, still under the impression this individual was someone in a bad place in life, someone with anger issues in need of counseling or therapy. My impression was further proven when this group also began calling out others within the fandom, making outlandish and baseless claims involving the race of some muns and antisemitic remarks. I was also removed from a group chat due to the libel upon my name. Now frightened, I spoke with a few friends again and discovered they too had received call outs. Many of these people had anxiety and similar emotional traumas, mental disorders and the like, which only ended up hurting them further.

I cannot hope to understand why A chose to harm these people, nor what their reason is to blindly make accusations and harass others in place of reasonable dialogues. I did at one point open communication with them, noting their issues on the matter and explaining in no uncertain terms that I agreed with them, that it was simply an exploration of a theme, very closed off and not open to anyone else under any circumstances. (screenshots also kept for legal purposes)  I imagined this communication went well but it appears not to have, as I have come to notice several blogs whom I do not know and have had no contact with already have me blocked.

I am not saying this to garner sympathy, nor to I condone action on anyone’s part involving the individuals in question. I’m a grown adult, perfectly capable of dealing with my inner demons. I have far more concern for those who can’t fight back or don’t have the ability to brush off such vicious negativity directed towards them. I hope others in the future will make the right decision in regard to seeing things on others blogs that they don’t approve of and, rather than go into a fit of wild accusation and blocking that person, being big enough to open up and speak with them with a little compassion.

I will express that some of the themes on this blog are used as a means of personal therapy. Some have worked out, some did not. I have been very private when it comes to my personal life, as no one is entitled to my life story nor my reasons for writing what I choose to. However, apart from a few choice individuals, this has been a very open and caring fandom ( in spite of it’s size ) and most people are rational and compassionate people who just adore their characters and love Detroit: Become Human.

I personally owe a lot to DBH as some chapters helped me get into a better place when it comes to past trauma. The more negative scenes involving Todd and Kara actually had me shaking and needing to take a break, the scenes with Hank involving alcohol made me nervous. But over time and with exposure I no longer automatically have such negative reactions. I began to be able to take a step back and look at these things with a clearer, more objective mindset and could see this as a characters journey rather than something frightening. It still disturbs me and I don’t like it, but I’m more comfortable now.

It’s rather the same with some of my writing. I only have a few things I will absolutely, expressly NOT write about, because no matter the context I simply cannot make myself write it. That’s an individual thing, and everyone has something like that. I hope we can all be understanding to one another on this matter.

Moving forward, I want to make it expressly clear that I do not condone or even agree with any questionable acts my or any characters engage in on this platform. Please take into account that if someone - anyone - writes about something questionable that they in no way condone these things and that the mundane does not, in fact, equal the muse. They are two separate entities with separate opinions, feelings, emotions, thoughts and mindsets. If we begin to police others on their ethics based solely on the theme portrayed or character written, we fall dangerously towards a slippery slope of thought policing. I urge all of you to read a book entitled 1984 which examines the dangers of this very narrative.

As a closing note, I want to say that I am not angry at A or the group of anti’s for their actions. I’m not even upset that they seem to be keen on spreading misinformation a year after the incident had been resolved. I only wish to say that I sincerely hope they get the help they need and that they someday find themselves in a better, happier place emotionally.

If you yourself are bullied or preyed upon but internet trolls, harassed or otherwise a victim of libel, please have the courage to report it to staff. Block the harasser in question. Do as I have and keep screen caps of their harassing messages and posts and show them to staff. Libel is a federal crime and online bullying is a prosecutable offense in a court of law. And if you yourself are someone who participates in cancel culture or bullying, please, I encourage you to speak with someone and find the source of this anger within yourself. Speak with your primary care physician and begin the path towards therapy, because your mental health is important and there are people who love you. There is no reason to take your aggressions out on others or jump to conclusions. If you cannot afford therapy, I encourage you to use one of the services from the list linked HERE. The saying “Walk a mile in my shoes” should be adopted, for you should be willing to open yourself up and empathize with others. Everyone does something for a reason.

Friends, please be careful out there. Bullies are a rare thing in this fandom as it stands and as they have slowly been banned or moved on, the DBH fandom has become a better, positive place for many individuals to express their love of characters, actors and the game itself and can engage others in fun, inventive writing projects. Let’s continue to be the fans that Bryan and Amelia would be proud of. Let’s stay positive and accepting towards one another. I have been so grateful for the people who chose to follow me and wanted to write with me, who put up with my stupid gushing and silly thread ideas. Not a single one of you is a number to me. You all bring something to the table and I’m glad to be here, two years in and having a blast. I hope each of you have such good fortune.

i watched a silent voice/the shape of voice/koe no katachi yesterday and it fucking hurt my soul

i really loved the story because it deeply resonated with me. (spoilers under the cut) Not only is the animation absolutely beautiful, but the characters are anything but basic. there is a lot of room to analyze their personalities and the choices they make, something that can be hard to do in a realistic anime.

i didnt know what to expect at all. on netflix, it has the tag “tear jerker” and i knew it was going to hurt BUT NOT LIKE THIS

getting into details/sad backstory: i was bullied/isolated a lot in elementary school – not to the extremities shouko or shoya was, but no one really understood the toll it took on me. i didnt have friends and kept to myself a lot – it affected me throughout middle school and the first two years of high school. therefore, i really sympathized with the both of them. being alone isnt easy in any shape or form, especially if exposed to it at a young age. 

goddamn hurt me so much at the beginning when shoya tried to jump off the bridge. and the way his mom reacted – there just aren’t really words to describe it. 

i won’t do a detailed response to every scene because if you’re reading this, you know what the anime is about. 

however, i do want to collectively agree that:

shoya neEDS TO BE WRAPPED IN BUBBLE WRAP AND HUGGED 24/7 AND I OFFER MYSELF TO DO IT

Hey Guys. I’m seeing a video getting reblogged around our fandom communities lately that reports on Stan Lee’s protections being removed by a Judge, and how he’s in a very dark place. I Totally Agree that this is a very important topic that we as a community need to be aware of and should raise alarm bells about. HOWEVER: A WORD OF WARNING Please, please consider your sources when you hear something like this. If you have learned of the issue by watching The Quartering’s video, then I urge you to find another source and share/reblog/promote that. The Quartering is a YouTube channel hosted by Jeremy Hambly, who is a seriously dangerous and problematic person. He has had multiple videos removed by YouTube from both this channel and his other channel (UnSleeved Media) for promoting harassment, toxic bullying, and hate speech. He is known for making videos that mock “SJW”s, “White Knights,” “Beta Males” and any women who attempt to engage in gaming circles such as Magic: The Gathering. His harassment (and endorsement of his followers’ harassment) of the prominent cosplayer Christine Sprankles actually became so terrible that she quite cosplaying altogether and removed herself from social media. And Wizards of the Coast has issues a Lifetime Ban from all tournaments because he is recognized as a toxic member of the community.

This man unleashed thousands of his fans on a woman in Magic simply because she enjoyed cosplaying as the characters. His since deleted YouTube videos used all the same tactics as those in GamerGate to violate and attack Zoe Quinn and Leigh Alexander. He is NOT TRUSTWORTHY and completely undeserving of viral promotion. Please exercise extreme caution if you are going to share his message with others, or endorse his channels as legitimate information sources within the nerd/gaming community. It could do so much harm.
