actually i do have something to say about this chapter and it's quite critical of it but also i'm tired tonight and i've been talking about it long and hard on discord already and putting it all together in a coherent post feels like too much of a task tonight. all i'm gonna say is that part 2 was very obviously going in a certain direction from the start, and i loved that direction, and to an extent it is still going in that direction but now very obviously missing a huge chunk of what stirred it in that direction. and i'm hesitant to simply say it's fujimoto that's dropped the ball on this (though it might the idealization, who's to say) because from the actual shape of the writing + slump in paneling/art + recent bitter interview by fujimoto + japanese audience is apparently vocally not a fan of asa + my own cursed knowledge of shounen jump and shueisha editors and how they react to a fall in sales = i think the lack of focus on asa has really hurt the themes of part 2 when she was an integral part of it + i think this wasn't entirely fujimoto's doing and it's very likely because she is apparently strongly disliked in japan and there's good reason to believe that fujimoto was told to not focus on her nearly as much bc sales slump and people complain as soon as she shows up. which sucks. becaue what made part 2 work as well as it did was the synergy and parallel between the two protagonists' paths, and the absence of asa's path in the past few months (both in universe and by real time in the comic) feels like a genuine writing and thematic and emotional hole in the comic that to me shows that she WAS supposed to be there. fujimoto had fully intended to write her in there bc there's a hole in the shape of her where she is very obviously supposed to fit. it isn't simply a question of "author forgets his female character" it's a question of "this crucial part of the manga is missing and the author is painfully aware of it and bitter about it too"

#eli talks #csm #this is still not coherent i'll make a more coherent version at one point. #anyhow this still worked for me even during the denji megafocus #bc it felt like the boomerang was gonna return and asa was gonna be back in her place #and we were gonna see the counterbalance to denji's focus #her own rise to fame and emotions during this and growth with yoru #her absorption into the church and its horrors; the love bombing and adulation she finally got #the emotions about chainsaw man as a character and growing more reliant on yoru #the bitter and dramatic fall and its immediate aftermath; reacting to losing her arm #instead we get a character who until now had been an intensely emotion-driven and passive character IMMEDIATELY thrust into action #and given v little insight into her thoughts and interiority #something is missing! #it's not like fujimoto had nothing planned for her. she was written so intently and well #and suddenly it's like she dropped out of existence #and suddenly the paneling got worse and the art got worse and the hiatuses worse #and we get an interview from fjmt where he talks bitterly about commercial expectations interfering with artistic intentions #and how he wishes he didn't have to draw aymore #a guy who talked about how he was obsessed with drawing! #idk maybe it's idealization but i feel like it's not hard to put two and two together here

A lot of things have happened throughout the seasons of the show, there's always some crazy things happening. Now let's talk about the challenges and the highs that you've experienced, that you can easily remember. And how were you able to rise above those challenges as well?

Oliver: Sure, the most immediate thing that comes to mind - this is some years ago now, is when we were shooting the beginning of season three. We did this tsunami episode. So, to make it, we went down to Mexico, where they had these water tanks built. And we had basically recreated Santa Monica, within these water tanks so that it could then be flooded. And, you know, my character is there, along with Gavin McHugh's character, Christopher. And the first day there was so physically exhausting. I consider myself fit and athletic but I was so wiped out by the end of the day. I went back to my hotel room and by this point, myself and Gavin were the only cast members down there, everybody else was coming out three or four days later. And I went back to my hotel room after the first day, and I got in this hot shower and genuinely, I cried, not because of how tired I was at this point, but because of how proud I was to be here getting to make this and it felt like I was living my dream. It was a huge-scale production, so many people's hard work had gone into it. And I just stood in the shower, and I just had this overwhelming sense of accomplishment, that I don't think I'll ever forget how I felt in that moment. So I think that’s probably going to be a high. And then I would say there's, you know, smaller moments between us. I remember Aisha turned to me once, and it had been a scene of myself, her and Kenny Choi and she said, you know, who knows how long we can make this show together for. But I do know that I could work with this cast for the rest of my life. And it was just such a lovely feeling of knowing that we're all on the same wavelength. And we're all aware of what a joy and pleasure it is to get to share this thing together.

ive had to step away from all the analysis of the finale because thinking about it for too long it fills me with such a [rage? bitterness? frustration? all of the above?] the likes of which ive genuinely never felt for a show before

ive cared about media before. ive been disappointed by media before, but i think the difference is i haven't put my faith in media like i did ofmd- and the more time passes the more i feel fucking stupid for putting that faith in the show in the first place, when so many of the things coming to light now were already there

i cant think about it too long else it makes me so fucking sad, and im tired of analysing it to bits because its not going to change anything, theres no way to fix any of this, no way to find a spark of light in it, no way to come back, to resurrect the show i fucking loved.

im sure everything everyone is saying is well thought out and nuanced things but for the sake of my own enjoyment of this fucking show i have to just not engage with it anymore.

from all the rumors i've heard, james (forcefully) had a big part in spike's wardrobe. sneakily changing out of the khaki shorts and into blue jeans in "doomed", always chipping his nail polish when they were repainted, apparently refusing to wear some article of clothing (i forget what... something velvet) that wardrobe tried to put him in because "spike wouldn't wear that" and then wardrobe getting pissed at him that he practically wore the same shirt and pants for six seasons. and looking at pics of jm at the time i can see so much crossover between spike's s6 jewelry and james' personal style.

It seems to be something that the members have always been hoping for. They said they always wanted to see me singing on stage. The members have been on the same stage every time, singing the same songs, watching over each other on stage, but they never saw me from the audience perspective. That's why they wanted to see it. I think I understand that feeling too. I'd like the members to come and see the tour if they have time, but now it's difficult to come in Japan due to the times... Everyone says they want to come and see it though.

thanks to the new game I like to imagine shadow as a barista but when he’s on dishwashing duty he blasts his “relaxation” playlist which is 50% death metal and the other half are just other assorted genres of angry and chaotic music because it prevents him from blowing up the place. Everybody else can hear his muffled playlist. It clashes with the jazzy coffee shop music the store plays but his coworkers are too scared to tell him to stop.

#gaiaxyposting #dangerous romance #mini (Hopefully) ramble incoming #ive been thinking about kanghan 'walking emotional neglect symptom checklist' for a while now #ever since that interview where perth described kanghan as someone who has everything except love #so much of his behaviour like how he always hesitates to believe he can achieve anything #and how he chases after sailom's praise. even the way hes so prone to crying #it all makes so much sense when you see it that way #and even the way kanghan's reactions to his dad seem disproportionate to how his dad talks to him (earlier in the series) #which can indicate many things! but it also makes me think about how often the effects of emotional neglect are viewed #because its perceived to not be as bad as other forms of abuse (spoiler alert! it is) #theres a bit more going on with kanghan but this ^ is likely a problem thats been going on for a While #kanghan is relatively well adjusted id say. the fact that hes able to express to his grandma that he felt neglected by his dad is Good #RANT OVER i think its getting too personal #i care him :(
