You know, I saw all the Orpheus and Eurydice web weaving posts for Clara and 12. I saw all of the Hadestown references on all of your posts. And yet none of that actually prepared me for watching Hell Bent and going oh. Oh shit.
Because I knew about the confession dial and what he does in Heaven Sent to get her back. I know the general plot of Hell Bent. I did not realize he literally shows up with a guitar at the beginning and end of it all. That he went to the underworld in Heaven Sent and comes out of the underworld in Hell Bent and manages not to look back but only because he's planning on never looking back. He's planning on wiping her mind and so instead she looks back and dooms him, wiping his mind, and he ends the entirety of their run playing his guitar into the desert to a ghost. He will never get her back because she looked back. She will forever haunt him because he succeeded and failed at the same time. Because she wrenched her agency out of the situation. And he doesn't remember her, she can't remember her, but he is haunted by her. He is LITERALLY PLAYING HER SONG at the end of it.
I finally understand why people are so obsessed with the twelveclara dynamic, and I would put at least fifty bucks on the idea that Steven Moffat looked at how the Ten/Donna subplot ended in Journey's End (Doctor and companion become a hybrid and the Doctor realizes that if he doesn't wipe her memories she'll die because she has too much Time Lord in her) and went how do I Orpheus/Eurydice this shit but flip the table as to who is Orpheus and who is Eurydice at the last second? Who gets to walk into hell and who gets to look back and who gets to be haunted? BOTH OF THEM. ALWAYS BOTH OF THEM. THEY WILL HAUNT EACH OTHER UNTIL THE END OF TIME ITSELF.
Now excuse me while I go scream into my pillow-
(Also, this all your fault, @twelvesbian, I hope you're happy.)

After years of reading Greek mythology adaptations, watching Greek mythology adaptations, listening to Greek mythology adaptations, and making my own Greek mythology adaptations, I've decided that there are two ways in which I will accept Hades as a villain.
The first is the way Hadestown handles him---yes, he's sympathetic and shown to care for his wife, which is a point, but they don't go the stereotypical route of "oh, Hades is the ruler of the afterlife, which is called the 'Underworld' and must therefore be hell? Definitely an evil goth boy, death gods are always evil because death is scary." No, they recognize the fact that Hades is the god of wealth, and use an incredible allegory of capitalism and industrialization that is of course at odds with his wife's solarpunk nature and her constant refrain of "it ain't right and it ain't natural" at her husband's practices. Stories where capitalism is the villain are always some of my favorites, and Hades does admittedly slide perfectly into that role as the god of riches... who just so happens to have dominion over souls.
And the second is one that I don't believe I've really ever seen, but is so, so, so fucking compelling to me, and it's Hades going the "you want a villain, I'll show you a villain" route---something that would fit in perfectly with a modern adaptation.
It would be so damn fun to see a Hades who has been constantly vilified through no fault of his own, either by Zeus or the narrative shifting as culture has shifted, seeing his image change from the passive and fair king of the afterlife who loved his wife and treated her as an equal to the cruel king of hell who keeps his wife captive and rules his domain with an iron fist. Hades, who was already the black sheep when his stories were first being told, and who now has to hear that he's the evil god while his misogynistic brothers are getting off scott-free and are barely even blamed for their rampant infidelity. Hades, who never did anything wrong other than take his brother's horrible advice once and always tried to be hardworking, fair, patient, and understanding. Hades, who had suffered the longest at his father's hand and likely would have taken the throne had Kronos not been a fucking monster, and yet had to watch as Zeus, who'd avoided all of the trauma and had been doted on and treated like a perfect prince his entire life, ended up getting all the glory and reward while not even letting Hades have the dignity of being an Olympian...
After thousands of years of that, it wouldn't take long for Hades to snap.
And I would adore to see a story where Hades claims the role of the villain out of trauma and bitterness and anger, and for it to culminate in a third-act breakdown where he realizes he's lost sight of himself but for him to still get the catharsis of letting it all out

listen. listen. you know i love me a good orpheus and eurydice and that means obviously i love hadestown okay? like we've established that?? okay listen. i love love love the tragedy of it all and my god he looks back because he cannot bear to exist without her for a second longer and i could go on about this forever. but!! I have a different thing to say and it is specifically about hadestown in particular and not other versions of the myths
persephone is complicit!! in hadestown, persephone is complicit in all of it! she complains about how her husband has been changing things and she complains about how he makes others dependent on him for money when he is the one who chose to give money that value in the first place (why do we build the wall? to keep out the enemy, which is poverty. how do we keep out the enemy which is poverty? we build a wall and get paid for it) (actually do they get paid? anyway, another time), but!! she doesn't actually do anything to help the workers out of hadestown either. "well but plaudius that's not her job, she's doing what she can from her position" why yes! that's correct! i do not fault her for not being an underground railroad or something on this literal underground railroad! the thing is, though, when she's smuggling sunlight and rain water and all of that into hadestown and reintroducing herself to the workers (somebody ask me about that sometime, i have Thoughts), she explicitly sells it. she's not just distributing it, she's not a robin hood giving the wealth back to the people, she's a diamond company selling what is incredibly common and freely available. she's aloysius o'hare from o'hare air in the lorax (don't fucking come for me i watched that movie once and thought it diverged too much from the book) selling fucking AIR. "you want stars? i got a skyful. put a quarter in the slot, you'll get an eyeful. you want the moon? yeah i got her too, she's right here waiting in my pay-per-view"
persephone is explicitly profiting off of this! she claims she doesn't like how hades is running the underworld but she is too comfortable in her life to try to begin any real change in her society

Hadestown:
local autistic—whose creative genius is the hope of humankind—falls in love. At the same time, encouraged by the community to find the executive function to meet his potential, he falls into a hyperfocus. But without any concrete support from those pinning all their hopes on him, he can't meet the needs of his starving lover. As soon as he realizes that he's missed her cues of desperation during his hyperfocus, and that she's made a desperate deal with death, he follows her into the underworld. He reveals the fruit of his artistic genius, which heals something broken in the world, but the greed of the elite lures him into an 'agreement' designed to make him fail (but since he 'agreed', the failure will be his fault). The fatal moment occurs when the autistic man, forced yet again to walk alone, commits the unforgivable sin of turning to his loved one for support and community on the long journey
It’s a sad song, it's an old tale.

as above - part4
Marc Spector & Steven Grant & Jake Lockley
word count: 577
warning: ANGST (trauma related)
note: What would happen if alters disappeared, after Marc took Khonshu's offer at the temple? (Hadestown and Dante's Inferno inspired. Marc, Steven and Jake are all aware of each other before the canon.)
this chapter is for youuu @ominoose
you can also read it on ao3.
part3 - part5 - masterlist
Everything hurt.
It burned but the pain came within. At this point, their skins should have melted of their bones, however from outside everything looked normal.
After an hour of being dunked in the lake of fire, Jake was still fighting with the waves of flames and cursing to anything and everything he can think of. Unfortunately, it was pointless.
Steven on the other hand was ready to give up after sobbing what felt like forever. When he was under, in the blink of an eye, he noticed… something shining at the bottom. Before he can figure it out, he was above the surface and heard them mocking;
“Cry one more time, now, little boy!”
Once more was pushed in the flames.
Hold your breath, embrace the pain he kept saying to himself like a mantra. And focus. What is that thing? Covered in jewels… His vision was distorted but it looked like… a tomb? Beneath the lake, hidden under the fire… Osiris’s Tomb! He tried to reach it but once again was pulled out.
“Jake! Ja-ouh! JAKE!”
“QUE!”
“We need-ahh toOHHH”
“WhaTU PUTA MADRE!”
“Swimmmhhaa to the LIGHT!”
Again, they were under. This time Jake saw that light, too and decided to listen Steven.
They both reached to the tomb at the same time. While Steven was mesmerized by the beauty of it. Jake, on the other hand, was trying to open the thing to do… What he didn’t know but at this point he was ready to do anything to get out of this hell.
Realizing this, Steven begins to help him and suddenly a warmth washes over them, to their relief different than the pain they were enduring caused by the flames... like a welcoming hug…
And they were sucked into the tomb.
They were on the sand again. And alone.
Except the two birds that were circling them while they coughed violently.
“Finally…” Steven groaned.
“Don’t think this is over yet.” Jake growled back.
“Oh, thank fuck!”
They both looked where the voice was coming.
“MARC!”
While Steven and Jake stumbled to their feet, Marc ran towards them.
“Where were you?”
“Doesn’t matter. Now I find you, we need to get out. Before the sunrise.”
“Excelente… And how are we going to do that?”
Before Marc can say anything, a lightning strike and it started to rain heavily. The temperature dropped.
“We need to find the boat that travels back to the reality!” Marc yelled; his voice is barely heard.
“It sails through the whole desert! We should be able to see it!”
“How do you know all of this?!”
“Khons-“
“I told you to look after your brother...”
They all froze.
“I should have known…”
“Is that-“
“No…”
“Mierda.”
“I should've known you would do something like this."
“Okay, we need to get out. Let’s get out, hermanos.”
“Let’s move, right?”
Marc was not responding.
“Hey” Jake patted on Marc’s cheek “Focus on my voice. Where do we go?”
"You were always jealous of him. Ever since he was born.”
Marc’s breathing was getting shallow.
“Marc! Shit- Breath! MARC!”
The wind started to pick up.
“You disgusting little-“
“Don’t listen to her Marc!”
“SHUT UP! SHUT! UP!”
"Now you make them suffer too!"
“That is NOT true! This is not real, Marc! She is not real!”
“She’s not my mom…”
“That’s right!”
“She…”
“THIS IS ALL YOUR FAULT!”
“Power it through, mate. You can do it!”
“We are here.”
“ACCEPT YOUR DEATH!”

Okay so more hadestown stuff!!! Specifically in “Flowers” the line “you, the one I left behind / if you ever walk this way / come in find me / lying in the bed / I made”
So I have so much to say so buckle up. (Also this song specifically I had originally written 600+ words about but had to cut pretty much all of it T-T)
Anyway so in regards to sweet girl there is so much to say!!! First of all I could refer to Finnick OR Conway! So “lying in the bed / I made” is referencing a shit ton of stuff. My favorite however is how it’s very much a self blame type thing. She “made the bed” that she now “must lay in”. It reminds me of how sweet girl feels like it’s her fault she’s in the situation she’s in, she blames herself all the time for it.
Something important to note is that in the musical birds are something Hades targets because they’re “weak” and “naive”. SO!!! Not only is she like blaming herself for “making her own bed” she’s also referencing back to “wedding song” where they talk about how a “bird is gonna make the wedding bed”
BASICALLY SWEEY GIRL (Eurydice) IS CALLING HERSELF A NIAVE LITTLE BIRD!!! She fell into the trap.
But how it can be reference to both Conway and Finnick. For Conway she views herself as betraying him, she longs for him, she wants to be around him again. I think she probably speaks to him “you the one I left behind”. Or Finnick, when she was in the arena she left him, she views it as her fault she ended up there (in the capitol)
Anyway I could go on about this for actual HOURS. You’ll straight up have to STOP me cause omg
-🌾anon
flowers is just so reader like even in non text relevant ways, the lyrics are just things she would do or say because she's so eurydice coded
she made the bed of lies, of deceit, of manipulation and has to suffer for it now. finnick can always find her lost in her own suffering that she's accepted. and she doesn't see herself as a strong person who's weathered the storm, more like someone who is being rightfully beaten down because of past actions. and she doesn't think she's ever really made a good decision even if it felt like the thing to do in the moment, like leaving finnick in the arena so they could convincea katniss.
she really just want to rest, for it all to go away though, besides her need to suffer, she does just want it all over with. "what I wanted was to fall asleep, close my eyes, and disappear. like a petal on a stream, a feather on the air"
and if given the opportunity I think she'd be desperate enough to take it, "lily white and poppy red. I trembled when he laid me out, you won't feel a thing he said, when you go down. nothing's gonna wake you now."
someone needs to give her a break fr
pookie I literally don't want to stop you, I love both of these topics sm 😭❤️

hadestown shows the true strength of love. not romantic love.. but love for life. love for our fellow man. love for the seasons and for art and this is orpheus’ strength. not his music. not his voice or his lyre. it is the heart he wears on his sleeve. the red flower he gives away so easily. (he had a gift to give)
and yes, it is what destroys him. because without anything (light or lover or brother hand in hand) with his love slipping out of his hands, orpheus falters. it is when orpheus’ mighty love is tested, when his heart is bleeding out all over the floor and walls of hadestown, that the workers see just how bright and strong it is. this is what makes them change their mind - not orpheus showing up for eurydice.  it is orpheus at his most vulnerable. because his love and his hope are tied together, inseparable. he runs on hope for spring, for finishing his song, for surviving the world’s darkness.
doubt is the antithesis to hope.
love, hope - it can be a weakness, too. a fault. after all, that is what hades is: love gone wrong. intense and greedy and jealous and possessive. is there not some part of him that doesnt doubt whether persephone will come back at all? why build the walls? it’s to try to impress her into coming back. to ensnare her when she is here. this intense paranoia turns into an authoritarian leadership, into him grabbing and holding onto any assets he can, for control.
orpheus is always powerless. (he was a poor boy)
but despite this, before traveling to hadestown, he has never had doubt. his love for the world has never faltered. god, can you blame him? the flames of hell, the sweat off the sightless workers’ backs.. and of course eurydice’s doubt driving her there. it is not the workers beating him, but this place’s grip on his heart.
he gets out, but not before that grip pulls his head around one last time.

I have quite a few hang ups with Come Morning Light, the hunger games au I posted one chapter for back in November and have yet to update.
The first and foremost personal challenge is the fact that I, PCE, a certified Angst Wimp, am gonna have to kill off sooooo many of my faves. Like Hunger Games has some dark ass subject matter, kids forced to kill each other. I’m struggling with that, especially with what I have planned for Craig.
Along that same line, it’s gonna be a HUGE cast of characters, which I’ve had difficulty with in the past, it’s one of the reasons I primarily operate in oneshots. I love a good The Gangs All Here fic, but fleshing out 20+ characters is HARD. Bc a fluffy 2k word oneshot of Stan and Kyle in an awkward meet cute where there’s maybe one other character (usually kenny lmfao I’m a creature of habit) is a WHOLE different animal than a multicharacter multichapter. That’s something I had to figure out recently with TWITR, and character introduction held me up a lot in ATLCTS.
Okay this one may seem really inconsequential to a lot of people, but one thing I didn’t think about when developing this concept was the fact that there’s not really away for me to get around Stan eating meat lmao that’s one thing that over my time writing sp fanfiction has become ESSENTIAL to me characterizing that boy. I’ll probably just have him make a comment about how he could never kill animals himself WHICH BRINGS ME TO:
Kyle as our Katniss character. So if you’re familiar with my bs, every time I write Kyle, he’s inherently less angry until it’s called for, he’s very idealistic in his worldview and it takes something actually really pissing him off for him to snap. This is NOT gonna be the case here!!! This boy is ANGRY BY DEFAULT, the worlds out to get him? fuck the world right back! Plus, the entire story is gonna be from his perspective, bc I love writing Kyle, but it’s gonna take all my willpower not to turn him into my usual empathetic to a fault sweet people loving Kys.
Also, I usually tend to leave the adults mostly out of my stuff, but they’re gonna play quite the role in this. We got Garrison as Haymitch, Big Gay Al as Effie, fuckin Mr Slave as Cinna. I’ve never even WRITTEN the three of them. The dynamics gonna be fun tho.
Ofc there’s the problem of it being an adaptation too. There’s a fine line between just replacing hg characters with sp names and copying the plot, as opposed to making it your own. I do have some plot changes planned, but this is an issue I faced with We’re Gonna Sing It Even So, and that almost led me to abandon that fic when I felt like I was just plagiarizing Hadestown.
Also I’m not planning to adapt more than the first book. I reallllly couldn’t handle Kenny taking out Ike with his trap in the third one.
BUT!!! This won’t be abandoned, it’ll just be slow going!!! Ya wanna know the main reason?
Because the first idea I had for CML (other than Kyle volunteering for his little brother) was STAN AND KYLE IN THE FUCKING CAVE SCENES. A major change is that both of them are already deeply down bad, but those scenes??? Yeah no one’s playing for the cameras. I wanna fuck Stan up in the arena so bad lmfao that boy is my original sp whump muse and NATURALLY Kyle taking care of him I love that shit. Girl we gonna GET that prosthetic leg the movies left out (Ship In A Bottle Stan moment, I love that fic btw) as the Style Injury Dealer, I MUST deliver.
So, yeah, if anyone’s down, I’ll eventually pick it back up lmao.

They Danced
The Prefect had managed to take a few things with her on her way back to Twisted Wonderland. Among them was a reccording of Hadestown, her favorite musical (dhe won't say that technically it was illegal though, its not her fault there isn't a professionally recorded version).
Naturally, she wanted to share it with her friends, particularly those she knew to be more artistically inclined such as Vil or Rook. Unfortunately, she got rejected by almost everybody. Of the 14 she invited, only 1 showed, the rest too busy with their responsabilities or punishments (Deuce once again pays for Ace's shenanigans).
Now, under normal circumstances she'd be sad about this, but seeing how her crush was the one to accept she had to believe this was some sort of sign. Plus the housewardens were rather busy lately, what with Crowley dumping his duties on them upon realizing she would be away for a few days (she did feel a little bad about this but then again, with all her unpaid therapy this is a way to repay her no?).
Now she stands in the kitchen, staring at the snacks she managed to save from Grim's unstoppable appetite. 2 bags of chips, some candy and soda. Not a great selection but it would do for just the two of them. Just in case, she also prepared a sauce to go with the chips and cleaned the living room in preparation of his arrival.
Grim was currently serving detention with Ace and Deuce, unsurprisingly, which meant she had the dorm all to herself. This night couldn't be more perfect.
A few minutes later, the doorbell rang. The Prefect ran to the door and composed herself in front of it to try and look cool before opening it. There stood Jamil holding a bag, presumably with food. 'Hi! Come in, everything's set up'
Jamil smiled at her and offered the bag 'I brought some masghati since you seemed interested last time I mentioned them' she grabbed the bag and peeked inside to see the sweets nicely decorated with dried fruits. They would go best with some tea so she went to put the kettle on while Jamil arranged the plates (at this point she no longer tries to stop him, he seems to like helping around when its of his own free will).
With the tea ready, both sat comfortably on the couch. The Prefect was about to press play when Jamil asked her 'Where are the others?' her heart beat faster at the reminder that it'd be just the two of them. She hoped he couldn't hear, what with him being seated at the other end of the couch.
'Riddle, Azul, Vil and Malleus are busy doing Crowley's job' Jamil snorted and muttered a small 'Nothing new there' she smiled with him. 'Rook is on a trip with his family, and Jack and Epel went with him to "unlock his story", Cater, Lilia and Kalim had a...club thing? Idia is Idia and Ace and Deuce have detention with Trein' she finished recounting them all and tried to gauge Jamil's reaction through a side glance. He seemed to relax more upon hearing there'd be no more guests. She dard hope this meant he liked her or at least trusted her enough to let his guard down a little bit.
'And Grim?' his arm now rested on the back of the couch and she wanted desperately to be closer so she could put her head on it 'Guess' her smirk was all the hint he needed to know he was with the other troublemakers.
'Well, their loss. Its just us then' on the surface the statement wasn't special, but the way he said it with that hint of sultriness, the way his eyes ever so slightly traveled down her body and back up as if to confirm she had dressed this nicely for him and him alone. The way his posture shifted just the tiniest bit closer, more arrogant, inviting her in. Okay maybe she should just press play and stop imagining things before she combusted from the embarrasment. Jamil smirked at her flustered face, pleased with himself.
The theater lit up, showing Hermes walking on stage. Soon the rest of the characters were positioned for the first song and they began introducing everybody. So far Jamil seemed entertained, enjoying the pace and beat of the song, tapping his fingers on the armrest to the tune of the song.
Soon the wedding song came up and the Prefect couldn't stop herself from singing along. Jamil hid his surprise at hearing her sing for the first time since meeting her pretty well but the yearning in his eyes was another story. Just then, the Prefect turned to him giggling and forced him to grab at his hoodie to hide before she could see his fluster. That only made her giggle louder and tease him lightly. So much for looking cool.
By the time Persephone was singing about how unnaturally hot Hadestown was, Jamil was fully invested...and also twice as glad that nobody else could see him like that, how embarrasing.
Once the story reached the middle, the Prefect paused it to stand up and stretch, hearing a satisfying pop from her back. 'Aren't we watching the rest?' Jamil stood despite his question and helped the Prefect grab the plates and cups and take them to the kitchen.
'There's quite a bit left, so we're taking a pause to stretch our legs and drink water' just as she said that, she filled a cup with water and offered it to him. Jamil took it and drank while formulating a question in his mind.
The Prefect beat him to it though 'Are you liking it so far?' the gleam in her eyes told him it was important that he answer correctly, no...honestly. He thought for a second before replying 'At first Orpheus didn't seem like a likeable character to me, and I think you know why' she nodded 'but- I guess I can respect how devoted he is to his dream and Eurydice. The music is good, I knew that from the first song and everybody sings really well, I don't know yet if I love it, I need to know how it ends first, but so far I'm enjoying it' he allowed himself to be honest, it was just the two of them, and it payed off. Her smile, once nervous but excited, grew into a bright light that tugged at his heart and made him feel alive. Damn his heart, filling his mind with poetry like he was Hunt.
They finished their drinks, washed everything and went back to the couch. It wasn't lost on the Prefect how this time Jamil sat closer.
During the second act, Jamil started to change his opinion on a few things, or at least that's what she thought by the quiet muttering of her guest. She wanted to ask him about it but then she caught a few words like 'That's how the world is' 'Still won't give up? Huh' 'Wait they actually care?!' and at this point she had a good idea of what was going on in his head. She felt that perhaps she could inquire about his opinion of Hades but stilled her tongue.
The moment was upon them: the song Orpheus had been working on from the very beginning. She tapped Jamil on the knee (when did he get so close?) excitedly and whisper-yelled 'This is it! This is the greatest song in the history of musical theater!' Jamil simply smirked, melting at the look of joy this scene brought her. He payed close attention to it, to her.
Orpheus, battered and bruised, stood in the center of the stage with his guitar/lyre and a microphone. He began to sing and Hades mocked him at first but soon shut up upon hearing his melody. Jamil noticed the Prefect muttering the lyrics and wondered just how many times she must have watched this play. But he also thought she was right, the song was beautiful, he couldn't assure it was the best in musical theater given how little he knew on the subject (particularly from her world) but he could believe it and that was enough. The song came to a pause as Hades sang, and Jamil felt compelled to sing along. Dry, shy, almost as if he were remembering a foggy memory but vulnerable like he hadn't been in a long time.
The Prefect looked at him with surprise, her heart skipped a beat at seeing her crush relating to the play and she couldn't hold back from smiling the same way Persephone smiled on the screen. Warm and hopeful.
'I've always loved their dance, it seems so tender and intimate yet elegant and powerful, you can feel the love and history they have' her hand grazed his by accident and Jamil glued his eyes to the screen in a bid to avoid becoming flustered again. But while she was swooning at the dance, he chanced a look at her and saw just how enamoured she looked. Dancing? He could do that, he was a very good dancer, he loved dancing and she clearly wanted to try this. Maybe they could dance later. His heart swelled with hope at the thought.
By the time Orpheus was walking back home, Jamil had all but forgotten the lyrics from the beginning. He was so invested in the story he didn't see the ending coming. A man, walking alone, doubting himself, a woman, walking behind him, reassuring him of her love but he couldn't hear.
A gasp echoed in the room.
Jamil felt something wet on his cheek. The Prefect was wiping some tears from her face and the only sound was of soft sobbing. His or her he wasn't sure.
'Why?' the Prefect didn't answer, she merely pointed at Hermes on the screen.
Processing his emotions, Jamil listened to the last songs. To Hermes retelling the story in honor of his friend, to Persephone raising her cup for those who remain, to everybody singing for Orpheus and to the troupe beginning their tale again as the curtain fell. He was a mess. Never one to cry over fictional works, Jamil was a bit embarrassed to be in this state in front of his crush, but there was little he could do to stop. He had relaxed and opened up more as the play progressed and now it was all he could do to reel those feelings back in. The Prefect however grabbed his chin and made him look at her, gently caressing his cheek. 'Why do you like this so much? It's rather sad for someone like you' Jamil refused to meet her eyes as he asked the question he wanted to from an hour ago in the least shaky voice he could muster. Internally he winced, it came out worse than he planned but she didn't seem to mind.
'I love it because its a tragedy. You know from the start how it ends: Orpheus fails, he looks back and Eurydice remains dead. Still we can't help but hope. Hope that maybe this time it'll be different, this time Orpheus will trust and they both will go home' Jamil had trouble wrapping his head around that idea and she could tell so she changed her words 'Orpheus's fate has been sealed from the beginning, there is nothing he can do. But still we hope it can change: the actors change, the band changes, even the theater they perform at changes so why not the ending? Its admittedly very meta but isn't it worth it? To hope for that happinnes?' that he could understand. Jamil himself had once overblotted from his despair of the life that was chosen for him. But ever since the Prefect had crashed into this world, she had showed them, showed him that hope wasn't such an idiotic thing. Looking at her, he hoped to see her smile more, to hear her laugh for him, to share his dreams and future with her.
He stood up offering her his right hand. The Prefect was confused until he explained 'You said you always loved the dance from the play...so dance with me' despite his muttering she could hear clearly what he said, and also see the blush overtaking his face. With her heart beating wildly she took his hand and stood at arms lenght from him.
In the quiet evening in Ramshackle the only sound that could be heard was two pairs of feet moving along to an imaginary rythm, perfectly in synch.
Jamil pulled her in, pushed her away, twirled her once and twice before coming back together to a slow sway. There, so close to each other their breaths intermingled, Jamil finally met her eyes and what he saw there surely reflected what she saw in his. Love and adoration so pure it filled him with certainty. They leaned in.
The kiss was gentle, as if scared to hurt the other. Jamil's right hand rose to cup her cheek while her hands grabbed his jacket and pulled him impossibly closer. Soon one kiss turned two turned three turned dozens. Only when they ran out of breath did they part, and Jamil took this moment to rest his forehead against hers, staring into her eyes with all the untold things his heart longed to share.
He opened and closed his mouth a few times, trying to come up with the perfect way to ask what he wanted to ask but once again, she beat him to it 'Do you want to be my boyfriend?'. Hadn't they been so close he wouldn't have heard it.
For the first time in a very long time, Jamil allowed himself to feel fully, his heart bursting with love, happinnes and hope. He sang a soft 'laa la la la la la laaa' as an aswer before kissing her once again and she simply giggled. Something beautiful had bloomed that evening in Ramshackle and Jamil would do everything in his power to nurture it like she had nurtured the hope in his heart.
----------------------------------------------------
So this scenario had been in my head since I first saw Hadestown (if you haven't watched it you really should, it's beautiful. Youtube has a few reccordings) but then I heard how good Jamil sings and thought oh no he has to be Orpheus and then @merotwst answered and ask (hi btw it was me) saying how perfect he'd be for Hades and I just- yes. A million times yes. So I came back to this idea and decided to write it before it takes over the part of my brain I use for work and chores.
I hope you like it and sorry about the pronouns but I tend to get confused when writting in english so using a female mc seemed easiest. If I ever write something more I'll try to use neutral pronouns.

If you’re familiar with Hadestown: can you write an Actor!Mark x Reader based on Hey, Little Songbird where he meets them in the mirror after being beaten by Celine and he offers a chance for them to find rest in his stories (a complete lie) and the reader ends up agreeing after being reminded of how Damien and Celine abandoned them in the mirror?
If you’re not familiar with Hadestown: can you write a Head Engineer!Mark x Reader where they try to pretend like they aren’t as effected by what they went through in an effort to put it all behind them, but Mark starts to notice that they’ve become more guarded as time goes on and it’s not until he yells about something while they’re nearby (maybe he and Celci get into a fight where he yells ‘THIS IS ALL YOUR FAULT’, or something to that effect) and he sees The Captain flinch that it pushes him to confront them about what’s going on, and they reveal to him the fact that they saw everyone they care about turn on them and give up on them (with Mark’s own betrayal hurting the most) to where they’ve now given up on themselves?
I’m not asking you to do both, unless you find yourself inspired enough to do so. I can’t really stop you if you’re inspired.
You can't just ignore it

Pairing: head engineer mark x reader
Warning: angst, Iswm spoilers for those who haven't seen either parts.
A/n: it's mostly comfort so angst isn't too serious serious note at the end

The new colony was thriving and it had been for months now, you'd found that ever since the incident with Mark and the Warp core that he seems to be even more attached at the hip than he was at the begining. Of course you didn't mind but it just made it harder for you to contain yourself. With the occasional flashbacks and waking nightmares you find it hard to go about day to day life, living most of it in fear.
Mark plays a big part in this issue since he was the reason this whole started, most of the dreams were about him anyways.
Right now more than ever, it was the yelling in the next room that was starting to bother you. You could only assume that another mistake was made and that the argument would stop eventually but it wasn't.
As you listened you could begin to feel something well inside your throat, just breathing felt like a task but that wasn't the end of it.
"It's all your fault!" You heard Mark yell.
Suddenly it was like a switch was flipped in your head, in milliseconds your were gripping your head and rocking back and forth. The tears were flowing like water falls, you'd seen this one too many times.
"I'm sorry, please." You murmured. "Mark I'm sorry."
The other room had long fallen silent, Celci had walked off to breath it off while Mark sat there in frustration. As he sat there he began to hear you mumbling through the door. His brows furrowed with worry as he walked closer to the door.
"I didn't do it." He heard you say.
Confused, Mark walked through the door in search of you. Not very hard to find he saw you almost immediately, you were curled up on the floor in fetal position rocking back and forth with your hands on your head. Worry washed over him again as he rushed towards you his hands finding their way to your wrists and pulling your hands away from your head.
"Cap'n, what's wrong?" He asked.
You looked up at him with the tears still falling from your eyes, your breathing heavy. "Mark please don't be mad at me."
You were a mess, a crying puddle of a mess that didn't know what to do with itself.
With a frown Mark slid his hands underneath you and picked you up into his lap where he kneeled beside you, he was gentle in his movements. Squeezing you closer to him he hugged you tight.
You'd yet to stop crying, the idea still imprinted in your mind that he was mad at you again. Just the idea of him being even slightly upset hell anyone being upset with you made you sick to your stomach.
"Hey it's okay." He whispered. His mind was frantic, he didn't understand what was wrong or what caused this to happen, everything with the warp core was over and nothing had happened since. Why couldn't he understand?
"Mark I'm sorry, I didn't do anything thing wrong, I-" Mark interrupted you.
"Look at me," He ordered.
As you looked up at him your breath caught in your throat, the tears still steady as you went. His eyes were so soft and caring when you looked at him, there wasn't an ounce on anger on his face.
"You have done nothing wrong, I'm not angry at you and no one is upset with you. It is okay." He said slowly. He slowly began to nod his head, "Repeat after me."
He began to say it again and this time you said it too, voice wobbling and breaking with every other word.when you finished you had been focusing on Mark hard enough that you could catch a breath and stop crying. It took you a moment to process but once you did you engulfed Mark in a hug.
His hands came to rest on your back, one of them rubbing your back softly.
"Are you okay now Cap'n?" He asked.
You pulled back out of the hug to see a gentle smile on his face. You nodded. "Yeah, thank you."
Mark began scratching the back of his head. "Does that happen often?"
You furrowed your brows as you wiped your tear stained cheeks. "The crying?"
"Yes."
You sucked in a breath before sitting back on your ass, trying to find the right words to say.
"It's not just crying it's like full blown episodes, bad dreams can trigger them and yelling can too." You admitted.
Mark nodded to show that he was listening, his eyes never moving from you. You scooted over to his side again, having him lift his arm and hold you close again.
"It's been rough." You sighed.
Mark squeezed your arm lovingly. "I would've helped had I known sooner." He felt like he had failed you, as your faithful engineer it was his job to keep the Captain in check.
"You helped me and now I'm gonna help you." He whispered. You looked up at him as he stared down at you reassuringly, he smiled softly.
"Thank you." You sighed.
Mark pulls you closer. "Of course."

Not super important
I don't remember writing some bits of this, like my memory of writing them is completely out the window, no one else has touched my phone I haven't given it to any one else and I remember writing but I have blank spots in my memory where it's almost like I blacked out. Strange.

I just listened to the finale of @bridgewaterpodcast (out this friday!) so I thought it'd be appropriate to share my secret playlist for the season. if you're not caught up, look away.
I shared my notes on this playlist (and will share my notes for the season two playlist next month) in my monthly mixtape newsletter! and if you want access to all my playlist notes that I've shared in the past, you can become an atypipal plus! but this month, I'm gonna share my notes right here, under the cut:
I didn’t set out to make this playlist, but as I was building both the season and its accompanying playlist, I realized that there were songs popping up that felt right for the season but separate from the main characters. I quickly figured out that these were songs for the Legend Tripper, our mysterious friend turned antagonist. The playlist is called “The LT” because I wanted to make sure no one could figure out what it was for if it was hanging on my Spotify profile (thought I did make it private, I’m always paranoid) and also that’s how we refer to her in the script, especially since the role was not written for a specific gender and therefore all the scripts used “The LT” in place of most pronouns until Tricia was cast.
I wanted this playlist to feel like wandering into the forest and then slowly realizing that you’re far more lost than you thought. So there’s not a lot of story in this playlist, or even that much character work, just the creeping sensation that you’re not as safe as you thought you were. That someone is having fun at your expense. It’s about the vibes, baby.
1. “The Rockrose and the Thistle” – The Amazing Devil
LOVE starting with a totally a cappella creepy lullaby type song.
And I know the kindest thing/Is to leave you alone
2. “Spirit Walks” – Nerina Pallot
Dark is the forest/And bitter are the trees/But I don’t fear/The spirit walks with me
3. “Devil’s Spoke” – Laura Marling
But I am your keeper/And I hold your face away from light/I am yours till they come
4. “It Will Come Back” – Hozier
As with the main Season 2 playlist, there’s two Hozier songs on this one as well! What can I say, this album is perfect. I am obsessed with this idea of feeding something dangerous and it coming back again and again–be careful what you feed. And the casual way in which this sharp-toothed thing is putting the onus on you, the listener – “you know better”, etc. Giving a warning with no intention of heeding it. Jeepers creepers, Hozier is a good lyricist
Don’t let it in with no intention to keep it/Jesus Christ, don’t be kind to it/Honey, don’t feed it, it will come back
5. “Your Fault/Last Midnight” – Into the Woods
The other side of the coin to the placement of “No More” on the Season 2 playlist. This song doesn’t necessarily flow so well in this actual playlist, but it is a song I listened to ad nauseum, especially when writing the last two episodes. The LT is the witch toying with everyone’s petty human problems, even if narratively speaking they serve very different kinds of functions. Also “Your Fault” is just one of the best patter songs ever written.
6. “In the Woods Somewhere” – Hozier
No lyrics to pull out of this specifically, because the whole song is just a great, creepy narrative. This is when the playlist turns from the LT to more of Jeremy’s POV on the LT.
7. “Killer + the Sound” – Phoebe Bridgers, Noah Gunderson & Abby Gunderson
There’s a frenetic, disjointed energy I wanted to accomplish with this playlist, the feeling that you can never get your footing and I love that this song, like the one from “Into the Woods” is really two songs in one.
Nothing ever comes, ever comes if you call it/Choking like a dog, like a dog on a collar/Open up your mouth, your mouth if you want it/Listen for the sound, the sound/The sound is coming down
8. “Flowers” – Hadestown
I opted for the musical version of this song over the Anais Mitchell because I’d already broken the musical theater seal on this playlist and, tbh, I just love singing along to this version. Without spoiling, Jeremy as Eurydice, the LT as Hades…I’ve already said too much.

Oh oh oh hades au (because I literally just watched hadestown and holy SHIT it was incredible) and nicolegolas ofc!!
i need to watch hadestown sometime ive heard so much about it. my hades au is this one which is largely based on the video game. once i finally get around to writing the longfic its over for all of you but As A Brief Summary. we've got everything. joe who is not the son of hades who doesn't actually exist in this au but still prince of the underworld trying to get out of said underworld. nicky is there and is joint god of death with andromache (andromache is death in battle while nicky is peaceful death and i Do have a lot of thoughts about that actually. booker is my sisyphus equivalent because i Had to. nile is (a) goddess of the night (had been mortal before but became a goddess for mumble mumble reasons. newest goddess there. also Strongly recommend looking up nyx's design for hades the game and considering the possibilities). lykon is the hypnos equivalent and celeste is charon. AND quynh is a shade who had been a warrior in life but she and andromache got in trouble and now they're separated. its truly one of my favourite aus ive come up with. here is a snippet even (takes place after yusuf's first attempt to escape):
It's almost three weeks before Yusuf finally gets the chance to talk to Nicky properly, and only because Andromache tires of him asking.
"He's been busy," is what she tells him almost every time he asks, doing a terrible job of masking the lie. Andromache is his friend, but Nicky is her brother in every way that counts.
He doesn't push, at first, because if Nicky needs time, then. It's the least Yusuf owes him. But Yusuf misses him.
So the last time, when Andromache had inevitably told him Nicky's still busy, Yusuf had responded with "You mean he's avoiding me."
"He's not avoiding you," Andromache said, taking a sip of her drink. The House had been quieter that day than it had been in a long time, and only a few tables in the lounge besides theirs were occupied. Lykon was on the surface with Nicky, and even Nile wasn't there. Most of the higher ranking shades were in other parts of the Underworld - which may have been Yusuf's fault, at least in part - and even the regular shades were quiet.
"I haven't spoken to him in weeks, Andy," Yusuf had said. "I know he's busier than usual, but. If you could just tell him–"
"I can try," Andy said, "but he won't talk to me about it either. He's been off ever since you left."
That had caused a sharp twist of guilt in Yusuf's gut. He should have said something.
"Just tell me when he's coming back, and I'll talk to him."
Andromache levelled him with a long, searching look. "He never left your side, after I brought you back. It took you almost a day to wake up. We didn't know if you would."
The knowledge had carried another wave of guilt with it. "Andy–"
"The boat's coming in in two days," she’d interrupted him. "But don't tell him I told you that."

this is like, a behind-the-scenes question- but how do you decide on ranks?? like, do you decide to make 'sets' like how you have Crow, Pidgeon, and Dove, so you keep the same number of the 3 ranks? or do you pick a bird/animal/whatever and go based on vibes?? or do you go in with a rank in mind and picks bird based on vibes??
Good question! Sometimes I make sets, and sometimes I pick the animal. See, Exotic birds are quite easy for me to decide on rank due to my experience with them, So I usually decide on the vibe, size (sometimes), usual personality traits, certain biological traits, and if they're a bird that would be considered a predatory, even sometimes media I enjoy can influence how their rank is decided (including au). Appearance plays into my decision but it's mostly the experience I've had with said birds that help me properly decide on it. for example, I own a Cockatiel and a Parrotlet, Parrotlets are smaller than Cockatiels and tend to try and show dominance despite their small size and obvious strength difference, they test even the biggest of birds and tend to be brave to a fault, Yet get scared of the silliest things, Taking in the size, personality of some of these birds and my experience I'd come to the choice of making them Omega ranked. Cockatiels tend to be excitable and playful, they're bigger than parrotlets but are much more...Silly? All birds tend to be silly but My cockatiel is an absolute enigma and makes me laugh, they are sweet but temperamental and it screamed omega to me. for the birds I have not had much experience with I do plenty of research and decide on what I have studied and seen. Swans are seen as elegant, but swans can be very assertive if need be. They're bigger birds and they're protective of their mates and eggs. I also took in the inspiration of "The Swan Lake". I wanted an Alpha designed to look dainty and sweet but have mad protectiveness engrained in them.
Pigeons have always struck me as sweet but spunky birds, they're smart but hold sass, and they're usually seen as less "delicate" than Doves and less "Pretty" (which I think is a lie but I love birds in general). They're strong birds, survive very well, and are often misjudged. they've struck me as a rank beta due to their size, role, and certain personality traits. a lot of how I decide these also comes from gut feelings and I've always been that way. sometimes, I do sets of three when I think of birds that work well and aesthetically mix, Cockatoos and Cockatiels, There will be a third to the set which will be a kind of Cockatoo, Either Galah or Goffin. This is saying, Some different types of existing birdie bitties may actually have different ranks, however, I've yet to delve into that with you folks.
As for non bird bitties? My non-birdie bitties usually are based on how i view them or my understanding of them (just like the birdies) My nectar bitties are the rank they are because of the time spent with Sugar gliders. Hades, my Grillby is actually based on the song "Hey, little Songbird" from the Hadestown musical. it's also takes into consideration the au. It's always made me think of my Au Grillby (at least when I began to remake him), shaping him to be a large figure that fully gave me the vibes of an Alpha, and due to his personality and AU role, it's been what I've chosen. I try to keep the same number of ranks but I get ideas and I have to act on them before I lose the idea. long story short, I am a being of chaos and I have a system to my madness but sometimes I stray from it with the thought of good ideas. There's a way I do things, it's just a crazy one.
I hope this was a good answer, I went on a full ramble.

ineffable husbands playlist - post-season two (an angsty list with the lyrics that remind me of them)
STORY OF US - taylor swift (i used to think one day we'd tell the story of us // how we met and the sparks flew instantly // and people would say, "theyre the lucky ones" // i used to know my place was a spot next to you // now im searching the room for an empty seat // cause lately i don't even know what page you're on // oh, a simple complication // miscommunications lead to fall out // so many things that i wish you knew // so many walls up i can't break through)
ITS OVER, ISNT IT? - from steven universe (it’s over, isn’t it, isn’t it, isn’t it over? // you won, and she chose you, and she loved you and she’s gone // it’s over, isn’t it, why can’t i move on?)
SAY YES TO HEAVAN - lana del ray (if you go, i’ll stay // you come back, i’ll be right here // like a barge at sea // in the storm, i stay clear // cause i’ve got my mind on you // i’ve got my mind on you // say yes to heaven // say yes to me // say yes to heaven // say yes to me)
FLOWERS - original broadway cast of hadestown (dreams are sweet until they're not // men are kind until they aren't // flowers bloom until they rot and fall apart // is anybody listening? // i open my mouth and nothing comes out // nothing, nothing gonna wake me now // flowers, i remember fields of flowers, soft beneath my heels // walking in the sun // i remember someone, someone by my side // turned his face to mine // and then i turned away // into the shade)
DRIVERS LICENSE - olivia rodrigo (red lights, stop signs // i still see your face in the white cars, front yards // can’t drive past the places we used to go to // cause i still fuckin' love you, babe // sidewalks we crossed // i still hear your voice in the traffic, we're laughing // over all the noise // god, im so blue, know we're through // but i still fuckin' love you, babe)
TV - billie eilish (i don't wanna talk right now // i just wanna watch tv // i’ll stay in the pool and drown // so i don't have to watch you leave)
TAKE ME TO CHURCH - hozier (take me to church // i’ll worship like a dog at the shrine of your lies // i’ll tell you my sins so you can sharpen your knife // offer me that deathless death // good god, let me give you my life)
STAY WITH ME - sam smith (oh won’t you stay with me // cause you’re all i need // this ain’t love, it’s clear to see // but darlin stay with me)
SOMEONE LIKE YOU - adele (never mind, i’ll find someone like you // i wish nothing but the best for you, too // don’t forget me, i beg // i remember you said, sometimes it lasts in love, sometimes hurts instead)
WHEN SHE LOVED ME - sarah mclachlan (when somebody loved me // everything was beautiful // every hour we spent together // lives within my heart // and when she was lonely // i was there to comfort her // and i knew that she loved me // so the years went by // i stayed the same // but she began to drift away // i was left alone // still, i waited for the day // when she'd say, i will always love you)
HIDDEN IN THE SAND - tally hall (when you had to bid adieu // said you’d never love anew // i wondered if i could hold it and fall in love with it too // you told me to buy a pony but all i wanted was you)
I CANT HANDLE CHANGE - roar (nothing i do is ever good // nothing i do is ever good enough // nothing i do is ever good // i can’t help but repeat myself// i know it’s not your fault // but lately i begin to shake for no reason at all)
TALKING TO THE MOON - bruno mars (i know you’re somewhere out there, somewhere far away // i want you back // i want you back // cause every night, im talking to the moon // still trying to get to you // in hopes you're on the other side talking to me too // or am i a fool who sits alone talking to the moon?)
LOVE OF MY LIFE - queen (because what kind of ineffable husbands playlist would it be without queen?) (love of my life, you've hurt me // you’ve broken my heart, and now you leave me // love of my life, can't you see? // bring it back, bring it back, don't take it away from me // because you don't know what it means to me)
