Do you have the audio for Jamfoot's tapes in the triplicate space?
Wow, this audio’s long! I mean, it is an entire interview compared to just snippets of character chat. So, grab a popcorn and some soda, and enjoy the listen.
Although I’m not as crazy on Alegander as most fans are, I do think he’s an interesting character! There’s something about a theatrically hammy guy who plays up the persona of being a mysterious villian who’s really just kind of A Guy™️ that makes for a really fun character. If Young Horses plans to revisit Bugsnax in the foreseeable future, I’m interested to see where they go with his character.
I’m not too sure if I’ve got the order correct. I uploaded the audio file as they were when I extracted them, but the wiki lists it based on when you encounter the tapes in the Triplicate Space. I’ll keep it as is for the sake of convenience.
Transcription under readmore. Not only to keep the post brief, but also spoilers for the Isle of BIGsnax DLC. You’ve been warned!
[Image Description: a triangular picture of Alegander Jamfoot. He is holding a cup of coffee and looking into the camera with a neutral expression.]
“Well… aren't you an intrepid little journalist, coming into this secret hideaway just to ask questions of the first stranger you see...?”
“Hmm… I do respect the pursuit of knowledge, and I have been down here for...way too long. Go ahead. Question me if you dare.”
“I am Alegander Jamfoot, junior archivist and crypto-snakological researcher. That is my passion, anyway. I am also... a part-time barista.”
“I was sent here by my organization to monitor this triangular relic. A position of honor, I was told, but I hold no illusions. This is a punishment.”
“This place is a temple of sorts, but even I don't understand its true purpose. The ones who built it are lost far beneath the ocean. The organization uses it as a break room.”
“We are the Snakolytes: Scholars and sailors descended from the remnants of Grumpbeard's final voyage. We are the keepers of Snaktooth's secrets. Protectors against the threat of Bugsnax until such a time that they can be... brought under our control.”
“[groans] We are NOT the Grumpinati! That's made-up movie nonsense! I mean, sometimes our actions are blamed on the Grumpinati, but we're a secret society, we can't just go around correcting everybody.”
“I have made… many foolish choices in my life. Foremost among them, a degree in library sciences. Look, there weren't many jobs out there, and I found an internship in a magazine ad. Unpaid, as it turns out. Welcome to the Snakolytes.”
“I've been watching your expedition with great interest. I don't get radio out here so, y’know, most entertainment I've had all year. I am afraid that Bronica Lottablog has gone somewhere that you should not follow.”
“In my time isolated here, I have learned more than any Snakolyte before me. With the secrets I have unlocked, the discovery of the Three Queens, I could rise to the upper echelons of the organization!”
“Yes, I will be well rewarded. Ideally with a weekly stipend. Or maybe even, um… healthcare? Even not having to pay membership dues would be... y'know, pretty good.”
“The first Queen was wrathful. When she awakened, she wreaked terrible vengeance on those who had sacrificed her to the Bugsnax.”
“The second Queen was benevolent. Through her guidance, the Bugsnax were pacified, and the Snaktooth Empire flourished for centuries. But as all empires do, it grew beyond her control.”
“The third Queen will be one of ours... hopefully. With her power, we will usher in an age of peace and prosperity. Ideally, before my student loans are due.”
“Well, wasn't that fun? I will be taking your recordings now. Oh, don't look so shocked. Surely, you understand I can't let any of this become public knowledge.”
“As for what happens to you... Well, I believe the Snakolytes could use someone with your investigative talents. And I, of course, could really use a recruitment bonus.”

Interview Buddy
Have time for an interview?
“Well, about time you asked! I have so much info about everyone here.~”
Who are you?
“I’m Buddy Buddylong, and I basically do what I want for the pretty buck.~”
Sure, but what do you do as a job?
“Some call me an ‘information specialist.’”
Why come to Snaktooth Island?
“Vacay of course! ;0) Also out of context, did you know the law doesn’t apply out here? Like at all?”
… Was that unrelated?
“Hey I’m just saying if you got into some… *ahem* Issues in the past, and like EVERYONE turned against you, this would be a great spot to hide out forever.”
Thoughts on Bugsnax?
“They’re so adorable! The way they waddle around. But they’re more tasty than anything.”
Why did you leave town?
“Uuuugh, there was so much DRAMA. We have far too many Geminis out here and this dumpster fire was getting WAY too out of control.”
And is that why you’re out in the cave?
“Hey, that cave was awesome! Plus it was close to Wiggle for me to sneak some sauce once and a while. ;0)”
But what specifically made you leave?
“Shellsy… Uuuuuugh, that greedy squeeb started looting once Snorpy was out of the picture! Then she tried to sell me his projector! So I posted pics of all her lil robberies and scams, and then peaced out before things went crazy.”
Any information on Snorpy?
“What DON’T I know? Hehehe. ;0)”
Please answer the question.
“Tch, you’re no fun. Snorpy is smart and adventurous. He saw the talent in everyone, it’s impossible not to look up to him. He’s pretty much invincible, but he has ONE weakness.”
Okay, so, what’s his weakness?
“Who do you think? Chandlo. Snorpy would jump off of the world just to make him happy. If I learned anything in life, it’s that you can’t let your happiness be dependent on someone else. It ALWAYS ends badly.”
What happened to Snorpy?
“Apparently they got into a big argument before Snorpy went out hunting again. Haven’t seen them since, buuuut if I’m being positive, maybe they’re on a romantic getaway sorting things out?”
That’s everything, thanks Buddy.
“No problem!~ I’m just happy to see your skills in action! Oh! Before you go, you should take this. It’s the key to Snorpy’s cabinet, some stuff in there are personal, but hey it’ll definitely help you find him.
How did you get that key?/ How many more secrets are you keeping?
“Sorry, interview’s done!~ Don’t let me down, bestie! Hehehe ;0)”

Note
So you said that snorpy would insist you shouldnt leave snaxburg anymore, would he ever force you to stay??? Because if he did imagine if you started trying to sneak out to keep investigating/exploring.
Also lord imagine after the ending. After everyone has to escape and everything.
I think ive got a sudden hyperfixation lmao
!! You sneaking out to complete tasks for other grumpuses or further tour investigation into Lizbert 's disappearance, only to be startled by the sounds of Snorpy screaming your name. He'll crash into you, hugging you tight as he babbles about how much he missed you and how worried he was, and dragging you (or asking for Chandlo's help) home, saying something about danger and The Grumpinati.
And Post-Snaktooth? He still has you bugged, of course - along with your whole house! He has schematics of your home on his conspiracy board, along with a layout of your schedule, various pictures of you, mad scrawlings about how much he loved you and needed you and how he had to protect you!
Soon, he'd put his plans into motion, keeping you safe and sound with him and Chandlo, protected from the dangers of The Grumpinati and the rest of the outside world. Finally, you'd be truly safe and all theirs.
(Also feel free to send any more ideas whenever you want, I love talking about this game ^^)

Riamam Lampnom & Gyiel Scratchback in… Worthy Opponent (Bugsnax Fandom Fanfic)
Gyiel Scratchback owned by @orb-the-watchman
Hope you enjoy!
***
The woodlands of the mountain on Snaktooth island were lonely and unforgiving, but Gyiel was used to being alone. After all, he had to stay on mission. He knew Wambus could keep everything in line but he was there to make sure of that. Still… It didn’t make his current post very very boring.
With a huff, he jumps from the tree he was sitting in to take a walk. No one would be coming up the mountain at this hour, so he was safe to walk around. How much longer would they have him and Wambus out here? He keeps side eyeing all of the snaks that watch him. He knew it was his job but he just wanted to go home, sleep in a bes for once, could a guy only wish—
“Hey mister!” Gyiel jumps and readies his gun, looking around for who spoke. He sees nothing until he sees a wagging tail in a tree. His gaze and gun point up the tree and he sees her… Wambus had warned him about this wild card, toothy smile and a pentenchent for chaos: Riamam Lampnom. She smiles and giggles, “Hi!”
“Uh… Hi?” He waves, gun still trained on her.
“You’re a new one, aren’t you? I’m Riamam—“
“Lampnom, I know.” Gyiel snarls, “You shouldn’t be here.”
She smirks, laying down on the branch, closing her eyes, “Buddy, I live here. I know these woods like the back of my paw. I bet I can catch all the snakpods in this area alone!” She cracks one eye open to peek at the still defensive Gyiel, “Buuuuuuut… That does make me wonder…” she jumps down and inches towards him, not even noticing the gun barrel pointed to her chest, “How have you been surviving out here, furless one?”
Gyiel instinctively backs up, gun still pointed at the horned grumpus. He had dealt with grumps with her personality type in the past, but none were as fearless as her given he had a gun and she had nothing. Did she not know she was in mortal danger? Oh of course she didn’t know, she was born hundreds of years ago! Still, it was frightening how unnerved she was.
“D-don’t come any closer!” He snarled, “I could kill you, I could kill you so easily with this!”
She stopped and laughed and looked at him with a pitiful gaze, “Well… Maybe you’ll be doing me a favor then. Maybe then I can rejoin my beloved Pylaar in death…” She takes a deep breath in as a rogue tear drips from her eye and she turns her back to him, “I won’t tell anyone that you’re up here. I can promise you that. But a promise for a promise, so can you do that?” She turns to him with a serious look, “Keep an eye on the blue farmer for me, ok? The poor guy has been under a lot of stress lately and I try to be the hunter Liz was for everyone but seeing him in distress makes me stressed. So please, don’t hurt him if you’re going to hurt someone…”
Gyiel could laugh, he had already been doing that for the past few months now! And now here was this stranger asking him to do the exact same thing? It was hysterical. But… He couldn’t tell her that. With his best poker face, he nods, “Alright, deal.”
She smiles and puts her right paw out, “It’s not a deal until we shake.”
He smirks and puts his metal paw out and shakes, “Then so it is.”
They share a glare with each other, both smirking and not letting up. A worthy challenger for the both of them. Perhaps the only one on this whole island.
“A metal arm? How did that happen?” She looks with awe.
“I… Rather not tell.” Gyiel grimices, remembering his past. He wonders if there were things in her past she would rather not say…

Cold
Wee quicky while I’m dying in this heat, post Snaktooth Bamton being a shitlord to himself, written in five minutes because passing the time.
Cold. That’s all he felt nowadays.
Bamton had gotten back from the island via hitchhiking on the couple’s raft, but had been down on his luck ever since, to put it nicely. He had a roof over his head, but that was about the best it got.
Every day was scrounging to even attempt to get some cash for rent and bills, between doing odd jobs and taking crappy pictures on some cheap polaroid he snagged when no one was looking. It wasn’t much, but it kept him alive.
That’s all he was doing nowadays. Surviving.
But he didn’t care about any of that. All of that was second hand to what he was really focused on.
Filbo Fiddlepie and his little partner in crime. Ever since he saw those two in the newspaper, smiling gleefully in the camera, something sparked within his soul.
It was always there, of course, things would have been so much better if he got what he wanted that final day on Snaktooth, but he had suppressed it for the sake of his mind. He was completely prepared to move on to better things.
Until he saw that grumpforsaken picture of his first day in office. And his blood boiled.
Every day since then was spent thinking of many scenarios. Many where he won. Where he got revenge. Where they never existed. And he was in bliss.
His paws shook whenever he imagined it. Seeing the fear in his eyes when he pushed him down…
Many nights were spent thinking of all sorts.
He knew it wasn’t healthy. He didn’t care.
He wasn’t cold any more. Not when he had a fiery hatred inside of him.

Another post! Ranging from oldest to newest, yet again. Which is actually a bit sad, since I think some of the earlier stuff came out better. Suppose that might be a consequence of trying to get so many ideas out(I drew most of these today), since my brain’s just been FLOODED with them. Kind of. Not all of them are the ideas I want at the moment, but I just work with what I’m given. Also I think this format of post with big chunks of art and then commentary below is one that kinda fits me well, but also makes me really impatient, since sometimes I make something I feel the need to show immediately. Yet at the same time... it’s easier to click that post button when it’s just one over several individual posts. Also feel like bad putting things in the tags that way. Which is a bit contradictory, considering I end up having to tag more characters and such... just brain logic, go with it. Lots and LOTS of thoughts below the cut, mostly about Beffica.
1st: Just another Buddy here, really. I was a bit in between ideas and couldn’t figure out what I really wanted to do. Plus it was practice for adjusting their design. Messing with the teeth primarily, and the bag just kinda... happened. Replacement for the Snaxscope that I’d previously been drawing there. Dunno if I’ll keep it... on one hand I like shoulder strap looks and messenger bags are sick as hell, but it’s rather disruptive for the character silhouette. We’ll see what happens. Also my fine detail stuff for them is really inconsistent and I feel like I kinda lost something that made me rlly like the design before??? So that’ll be a thing to hash out in the coming days. If I can get myself to focus, of course. 2nd: Here’s a favorite of mine that took some real doing. I was working on it most of yesterday and most of the brainwork came down to figuring out how the hell to pose everyone. I found the thought of them all splayed out in bed super damn cute, and while it ultimately came out less goofy than I actually wanted it to... I still like it. Shoutout to drawing along the edges too much and making fitting in Big Tall Filbo difficult. Maybe I can fudge it by saying I can see him as the sort of person to hang his leg off the side of the bed :p Especially if it’s hot. Fan on, leg stickin’ outta the side. Then aside from that, Buddy being too tired to actually fully take everything off and just plop down w the hat and loosened collar ‘n tie... fucking yum. It’s not a detail I intended originally, but I wanted to kinda... maintain the design I’d kept for them while also not having them straight up in bed fully decked out. Compromise! 3rd: Heere starts the Beffica focus... at least for a little while. Dunno what it is, but she’s always appealed to me. Despite the mean girl schtick, or perhaps because of that schtick, I gravitated towards her. After the initial slight wincing at the first drops of “Zonk off”, “Squeeb”, and the abbreviations she uses. Seems to be fairly common for me to find a character I initially dislike or is just a jerk, and then turn around and say “Actually no I LIKE them dangit”. And see, the thing about her is that she has those nuggets of tasty character that shed a fair bit of light on why she acts the way she does after the initial negative opinion. A shared trait with Floofty. She’s made mistakes that drove the people she considered friends away, and ended up sticking to the very habits that likely caused such rifts on Snaktooth as well. Which is exactly why, well, she isn’t really in a good relationship with anyone. But you. And she admits that even your own relationship is tenuous at best ‘cos she just started calling you bestie from the outset and you ran with it. She figures it’s probably only a matter of time until she drives you away too. Despite how she acts, it seems like she still really doesn’t... like herself that much. Doing her quests is just going further down that rabbit hole and continually indulging her bad habits. Y’know, like most of the other inhabitants. Beff sees what she’s doing as a GOOD thing and believes the worst of people. And starts off seeing the worst with Wiggle betraying Gramble’s trust like she does, but then as things go along there’s less and less for her to find. Cromdo just... dances and sings at night. Chandlo is a perfectly nice guy, but she completely denies that he doesn’t have any deep dark secret. Otherwise it’s furthering her reliance on Bugsnax, which you could say she’s one of the worst cases of. She’s not the most likable character, but she is definitely one of the most interesting. I reckon she probably did see some pretty bad shit to make her think the way she does. It doesn’t justify her actions, but taking the time to understand her offers a lot of insight. It’s ironic too that despite Floofty’s shaky at best morality... Beff takes the cake on the grey morality and is probably up there with the hardest Grumpuses to sympathize with. And despite that, I latch on. Then, of course, once you get to the end of the game... it seems she’s been doing some thinking. And intends to do better for herself, which presumably means doing better by the people she’s friends with too. Which I personally have thought of developments for. Like actually forwarding her relationship with the Journalist and, of all Grumpuses, Filbo. For how much she seems to address him personally and the focus on interactions between those two. Which lead into all my thoughts about either close friend group or straight out poly w em. I had more ideas for developments with her which I’ll expand on shortly, aside from mentioning that I very explicitly thought of her actually apologizing to some of the people she wronged. Especially Snorpy. But to actually address the damn drawing and not talk forever on character analysis... obviously there’s something different here, yeah? The idea for the triple heart locket thing admittedly just came to me on spur of the moment while I was thinking about Buddy, actually. How I wanted to adjust their design and such. Absentmindedly drifted over @/Yejomo’s(I hope they don’t mind me mentioning them by name?) take on them with their post-Snaktooth design change. I thought “What if Beff’s design changed and she got extra lockets for the two people she’s hooked up with? And so it was done. 4th: HAHA HEY SPEAKING OF @/YEJOMO.... this piece was shamelessly inspired by the Beffica and Floofty art they did yesterday. Or was it the day before yesterday? I don’t know time <3 But yeah just two unlikely pals talking it up over some tea. (”You drink tea? I thought you’d be like... more of a coffee type or something.”) (”Mm, well. You would be half right in your assumption. Coffee for work, tea for pleasure. You may be able to envision how little I get to have of the latter as of late.”) That’s not what would be in the dialogue bubbles. Just what was in my head. Also inspired by the Floofty/Beffica dynamic of that one fic I’d mentioned before, with them becoming friends and collaborating. It’s not what you would expect, but surprisingly, I think I could see it work. Maybe. Anyway, you can really tell I’m not used to structuring scenes or drawing things that characters are actually... interacting with in some form. But it’s decent enough. Poor right leg on Beff though. I think that’s gonna need some medical attention. 5th, 6th, 7th: Now.... we get to the final stretch. Good on you if you’ve made it this far and no shame if you haven’t. I’m just writing chapter length posts for the sake of it out here. These draws stem from one of the previous discussion posts I made about Buddy going freelance after losing their job. Journalism kinda basically turned detective work. In my brain, it makes total sense of Beffica to participate when: 1. She already had a background in Journalism, and explicitly in digging up dirt on people. 2. Despite her cynicism of people, it seems like she does still have a fairly good judge of character. 3. She has some sense of justice probably, considering the fact that she goes out of her way to expose Cromdo’s crimes and tell him that she won’t let him get away with doing those sorts of things. 4. In my way of things, she... y’know, hooks up with Buddy and that’s just extra motivation. I see it as a way of Buddy continuing to do what they seem to have a real knack for, and after the whole Grumpinati affair... maybe even keep up to date on potentially relevant information and up to snuff on their skills. And also as a way for Beffica to exercise the skills she has in a setting where they can be used positively. Keep an eye on Buddy too, for personal reasons and for Filbo. In this instance, it’s about Buddy conducting and interview and by the end, Beff calling that she can easily smell there’s some covering up. There was going to be extra panels of her saying “I don’t know WHY they’re lying. I just know that they’re not telling the truth.”, but I didn’t quite get around to it and I burnt my brain out a little. And that’s it!

fuck it bugsnax/s4m au notes
alternate title: i’m at that point in liking something where i have to combine it with everything else i’ve liked previously and today i’m making that everyone else’s problem.
- base premise is a lil different! instead of being a journalist who was invited personally to the island by the expedition leader, you (or FK if you consider them a separate character from the player) are tasked with investigating the habitat, a budding commune on snaktooth island that may or may not be devolving into a cult. there’s just one teeny tiny problem - the commune’s leader and also your main suspect, boris habit, has been missing for weeks by the time you arrive.
- now it’s a matter of gaining the inhabitants’ trust/getting them to come back to the habitat while hunting and subduing the bugsnax, who seem increasingly eager to launch themselves at inhabitants at quite literally dangerous speeds, in a battle of wits to keep your newfound companions fed while documenting the strange creatures. and of course, the question of just what happened to boris habit still lingers in the air. think like... talentless nana where the protag pretends to be all cute and unassuming (complete with flower motifs!) but really they’re there on Super Secret Spy Business. but of course there’s less murder.
- oddly the bugsnax seem to have only become more aggressive after his disappearance. i’m sure it’s nothing.
- yes everyone is still a grumpus
- there isn’t really an interview “mechanic” so much as it is a Lot of cozying up to everybody in pursuit of whatever information you can find on habit/potential group rituals/events that led to his disappearance; you get it by bits and pieces rather than a single structured interview. there is of course a lot more interactions between characters than there is in s4m’s base game bc thats like 60% of the appeal of bugsnax and i would be a fool not to think of it.
- time for ideas for specific characters! kamal is the vice-mayor of the habitat and has been habit’s right-hand grump for as long as any of the inhabitants can remember, despite their relationship becoming increasingly strained ever since their arrival on the island, and especially before habit’s disappearance. i imagine you still find him passed out but instead of collapsing from starvation he’s like "please.... toothpaste... a breath mint.... some pepto bismol. i’ve been able to taste my own breath for weeks." has been trying to divide his time between looking after the habitat and looking for habit himself (and also his best friend wallus) but the dispersal of the habitat has left him a tad Demoralized, to say the least.
- i feel like trencil would play a wambus-adjacent role in the sense that he's the one taking care of the sauce plants and also one of the first townspeople you meet. you convince to come back with you not necessarily bc he'd be able to continue farming in town but bc he would probably have an easier time looking for his daughter if he got some sleep first (but only if you look for her in his stead)
- gillis is like. a wannabe chandlo. makes you capture a bunch of snax that he Says he's gonna use to get stronger but eventually you find out he's been releasing them or keeping them in like lil makeshift pet houses bc he always takes one look at their big googly eyes and turns to mush. but EVERYONE'S eating them so naturally if they find out he's not they're gonna think he's some kinda wuss so he just pretends.
- dallas keeps asking for sweet n colorful bugsnax to give to mirphy to impress her (sweetieflies, instabugs, etc etc.) but by some streak of bad luck they always end up being her least favorite. he tries to see if Maybe he can use them to make some new bugsnak-exclusive pigments, but like in canon they always end up turning into mush before he can get very far. mirphy meanwhile is far more interested in preserving them for a potential display, but similar to dallas, she never gets very far.
- i imagine the kid habiticians are like. a roving band of semi-feral children bc if anyone's gonna keep them in town it's definitely not kamal.
- i wanna do something with wallus SO BAD like you find him somewhere up in frosted peak but i have no idea what he would even DO its fucking killing me
- those are all the ideas i have For Now; s4m has more characters than bugsnax so there’s a lot to be done w/ them lmao. if i think of any more i’ll probably put it in another post or if anybody wants to spitball with me.......  👀
- and now we get to The Big Guns: habit.
- he was fun to work on w/ this au mostly bc despite being the rough equivalent of lizbert he’s a way different type of flawed leader than her; where liz is responsible to the point of martyring herself without a second thought and not thinking to delegate any tasks to the other snaxburg residents, which is what ultimately causes them to fall apart once she disappears, habit's deal is that he wants the position and appearance of an authority figure because it'll keep him safe, but he kind of sucks at taking responsibility for anything he does wrong because he’s spent most of his life acting according to what other people (namely his family) expect of him and being met with a negative reception no matter what, so he doesn’t really believe he has power over anything, including his own actions, despite being such a control freak for most of his own game. so his arc would need something that’s kind of antithetical to what liz had, wouldn’t it?
- so what i got so far is that au habit was tryin to covertly start a bugsnax cult bc he sees being asborbed by the snax as a sort of ascension and was eventually planning to have everyone be absorbed; it’s important to note however that bc information on bugsnax is so obscure he doesn’t actually 100% know how absorption works so tl;dr: habit became the bugsnax monarch willingly and then 5 seconds later he was like "oh no wait this fucking sucks. what have i done. shit. fuck."
- unable to cope with the realization that he was once again forced to act in accordance to someone (or in this case something) else's desires, he shuts down emotionally, becoming an empty husk of a grumpus while the bugsnax above run rampant thanks to the extra fuel and absolutely no restrictions until the Big Climax when habit is finally moved to take back control of the snax and by proxy Take Some Fucking Responsibility for knowingly luring people to cthulhu island. however this does leave the obvious question of if he was such an empty shell for most of the game why didn’t they just. eat him.
- the answer i eventually landed on was that his self-preservation instincts were still kicking on a subconscious level and during the aforementioned climax he eventually realizes that he does not in fact want to die, he just doesn’t want to keep living the way he is now (as part of an ancient hivemind beyond his understanding) or the way he was before (you know.)
- also fun fact: i was thinking about what his monarch body would be based off of bc the snakdragon, while cool as shit, didn’t feel right for him, and then i remembered that blooming onions exist. i imagine he’s in the middle acting as the flower’s “stigma”
- as for endings i’m thinking like. in the neutral ending kamal joins habit but its left ambiguous whether or not they'll ever be able to leave the island or if this is even a permanent solution (call that the paw in unloveable paw ending). in the good ending you bust habit outta his queen body after fending off enough bugsnax together and it’s super gross bc the undersnax as a whole is super gross but hey at least everyone’s leaving alive. i don’t know what a bad ending entails except most if not all of the cast is dead and habit is left alone on the island surrounded by reminders of his spectacular failure.
- hell i can even think of a sequel hook for the good ending like in canon bugsnax; some time after the ending/credits you ask habit just Where did he get the information on bugsnax that led to him being like “you could make a religion out of this” and the screen fades to black before you hear his answer. there.
- its almost midnight.

She turns to him, her gaze flinty. “I don’t care! It took me more than a year to even eat solid food again, and even longer to stop checking my food for eyes, even when I made it myself! I couldn’t sleep, I could barely get out of bed, I felt so weak… I worked so hard.” Despite herself, her voice cracks, clenching her fists in her lap. “I worked so hard to be normal again. Whoever these people are… Maybe they’ll understand. But there’s no way I’m going back to that island. If that’s what it costs to live, I’d rather die.”
The four Snaktooth survivors reconvene and discuss how they're going to escape the Sunrise, with both the help and hindrance of some of the people they've met along the way.
This is the final chapter of Monarch Sunrise. I had a really, really good time writing this, and I can’t thank all my betas and contributors enough. And of course, thank you for reading!
There’s an epilogue as well which I will be posting tomorrow.

Can you spill some of ur bugsnax hcs?
I assume you mean with the characters, in which case, Yes of course!  Bear with me though that all of these are going to take place Post-Snaktooth Island. I might do some headcanons on what happened on the island but for now take these.
(SPOILERS AHEAD IF YOU HAVEN’T SEEN THE END OF THE GAME, I also apologize for it being so freaking long...I actually did not intend on that)
FILBO
They all lived in a small but very prosperous town, said town doesn’t have a name cause Mun isn’t creative enough to make one yet
After being elected Mayor, Filbo had learned to become more assertive with others. His role as Mayor of the small town involves him doing a few small tasks, like cleaning up the streets or helping with lessons at the schools
Other times however he is brought into meetings to plan celebrations, opening new buildings and ways they can develop the community.
His meeting council includes Floofty, who is always helping him out in terms of his decisions.
His office has all of the trinkets and maps from Liz’s adventures, as well as pictures of everything they did on Snaktooth and all the pictures she and Eggabelle have of each other.
Filbo constantly sends out letters in bottles to Snaktooth in the hopes that Liz and Egg will find it and write back. He is still waiting on a response from them
When he gets bored, he often just draws in a spare journal he has. He does this in meetings or when he’s at a lunch with the others
He had a statue of Liz and Egg made and placed in the center of the town to help remember them and what they stood for
WAMBUS/TRIFFANY
Wambus and Triffany live in a small country home just outside the town next to the beach and a small grotto.
The place has a large amount of land for Wambus to start a farm with all sorts of sauces. The beach they live next to has a big cave with all sorts of secrets that Triffany is willing to discover.
Reconnecting with their kids has been a challenge, seeing as they left quite abruptly. The kids did eventually start coming around though.
Wambus is a very good cook, lots of people headcanon it and I headcanon it too. The man can make a mean roast. Only reason he never did it on Snaktooth was because the food was already walking around so he had no need to.
Triffany may look like a stick but she’s actually quite strong. On the same levels as Wambus and Chandlo? Maybe not. But she has punted several people before.
She is also very unconventional in her methods, resulting in lots of Scars and broken bones. Wambus had tried bandaging her up before but after failing 15 times he just called Floofty.
Speaking of Floofty, the couple have a very good relationship with the scientist. Floofty often helps Triffany with collecting samples or attempting to help Wambus with growing crops, though those attempts often result in Wambus yelling and Triffany trying to calm her husband down.
FLOOFTY
Floofty now teaches at the towns school, they’re a very talented professor and many of the students they teach have delighted in their work. Though other teachers find the methods very...unconventional.
Though Floofty is still quite cold hearted to most of the grumpus’ they have learned to be more cheerful towards certain Grumps. One of which being Snorpy and the other being their students.
Many students ask how Floofty lost their leg, to which they reply: That information is irrelevant, but if you truly wish to know then speak with the Mayor
When Not teaching they’re usually helping Snorpy out with anything involving the Grumpinati. Though they aren’t really of much help considering their methods
They definitely are considered a cannibal, Floofty was once seen carrying an arm (no one knows if that was theirs) and took a little nibble of it...then spat it out and complained that it was too salt
They are always helping Filbo out in terms of his mayoral duties.
GRAMBLE/WIGGLE
Gramble and Wiggle share a small little two story home in the town. The house is decorated with all sorts of flowers and different patterns on the fence
While Wiggle is always busy touring, playing music, Gramble became the local veterinarian for the town. His experience with the Snax actually prepared him for the animals.
He also has a small little puppy, ten times better than any of the Snax he had
Gramble still does keep pictures of Sprout around his room, as much as he hated knowing he harbored a parasite in his home, he still missed the little guy. (I am fully convinced the one at the end though was Sprout)
He and Wiggle began dating right after they settled into the house together, believing that it was much needed change for the both of them.
Gramble knits sweaters for Wiggle since she goes out touring so much, he also knits plush versions of the Snax he kept back on Snaktooth. It was the biggest mistake he made, cause now he envisions them staring at him and wanting to murder him
Wiggle always tries to help him when it comes to his nightmares. Playing white noise or ASMR videos so he can go to sleep
Her songs are very well received and she has quite a lot of publicity. Do The Wiggle is still one of her best selling numbers, but she has some love for her other pieces too.
She is always asked to sing at events by Filbo, and of course she never says no. One of her favorite things to do is get one of the kids to come up and sing Do The Wiggle with her since it’s one of the best songs in their opinion
She has a ring box tucked away in her dresser, she’s waiting for the right moment to pull it out on Gramble and propose
CROMDO
Cromdo is doing much better in life, opening up a successful karaoke bar and gets quite a lot of business from some of the guys in town.
He also showed the less serious side of himself a lot more, and once he let down such a defensive guard he was able to get further in life, albeit he still has a long way to go
He and Beffica still don’t get along, but they’re on better terms than they were back on Snaktooth
He hasn’t completely dropped his ways though, he’s still a big old Scumbag (and we love him for it). Often he tries to make a profit off something miniscule like an old bottlecap.
Though Cromdo is still a scumbag, he helped Filbo and Buddy set up Filbo’s campaign to get him elected
Cromdo still tries stealing Triffany’s stuff and Wambus fucking yeets him all the way into town. How he has no broken bones from that is still a mystery to everyone.
BEFFICA
Beffica is now a photographer for the local newspaper, probably not a good choice in many of the Grumps opinions
She is however much better than she was on Snaktooth, and does have a small friend group outside of the Snaktooth Island group
Her old friend group has tried getting in touch with her but she’s very reluctant to talk to them again
Many of the older grumpus’ have basically adopted her because she’s still very shaky after everything, they didn’t expect her to be so shaky but life is surprising.
Her favorite person to go to though is Triffany, for the pure fact that she and Triffany just talk about guys and it’s the best chat ever
She and Filbo are on much better terms, and she may or may not have some feelings hidden for the new Mayor but we will never truly know
She and her ‘Bestie’ go out for Boba tea all the time, a truly fun experience for the both of them
CHANDLO/SNORPY
Chandlo takes Snorpy out on morning runs all the time, he’s proud that his bro is taking baby steps into letting the outside world embrace them
Oh, Snorpy is also He/They now, I honestly feel like it fits them
Snorpy and Chandlo moved to a small little apartment complex for now. The home is very quaint and the two have little designated areas for all the stuff they have.
They also had to make room for Floofty as the sibling insisted on staying with their brother for...reasons
Chandlo goes to library a lot to learn new techniques to help Snorpy, but he also secretly reads up on articles about the Grumpinati in the hopes to help Snorpy destroy them one day
He and Floofty have made a strong pact over the fact that Snorpy must be protected at all costs, no exceptions
Snorpy is a lot more open about what he does now, often asking for advice from Chandlo about his inventions and whatnot.
Neither of them are good cooks, they both try but both almost always burn the complex down so they just ask Floofty to do it
Snorpy actually bruises very easily, he is a literal tomato. So he doesn’t always participate in many physical activities but he does try his best
When Snorpy does bruise, Chandlo goes into full panic mode as he doesn’t know how to tend to wounds. No one ever told him that you can put ice to make it go down quicker
They are married, they have all the paperwork signed and the rings to prove it
SHELDA
She does still go by the name Shelda as people aren’t quite used to calling her Shellsy Woolbag
She actually took up dating when she encountered an old friend of hers, such friend does not have a name because as stated before, Mun is not creative
Shelda has a lot of books and meditation CD’s in her shelves, she also has a Tape Player so when she goes out on walks she can listen to some of the best audiobook readings
She and Floofty get a long a little better, sometimes Floofty will give her insight as to what the world is to THEM and Shelda shares a funny story in return, one that does manage to make Floofty laugh surprisingly.
People don’t often see her get out much, possibly because she’s always busy writing up her experiences and whatnot
She is Buddy’s comfort and the one that they room with currently, she is actually very good company believe it or not
She and Buddy also love writing little stories together as practice for her next book, and they also exchange drawings and doodles they’ve done over the course of the day.
And that’s pretty much it!

i love your clone baby content im just soft for Floofty being a parent ,do you have any other spare clone baby lore? maybe some Stalla ideas ?
Clone baby lore!
Duree is the first of any post-game babs I might ever make comics about (unless I do more with Deviled Egg with no name, then SHE'D be the first) and was 'born' at least 5 years after Snaktooth happened.
Cloning grumpuses is illegal in the country the gang lives in. (Well, technically it's about editing genes and making designer babies so Duree isn't technically breaking the law as Floofty's genetics were untouched but all science babs are investigated bc this law)
Because of this, Floofty doesn't really tell others (besides the squad) Duree's real origins and just kinda go "ah their other parent is out of the picture" and imply that it's painful to talk about when really the other parent is out of the picture because they were never in the picture to begin with.
Duree is fully aware of their clone-ness. And good at lying to grumps who don't mind their own business!
I'm thinking of giving Duree some younger siblings, just because those drawings of Floofty holding all those bean floofs is hilarious. Also the failed trials haunt me.
Stalla is about 75-80% Gramble. There are some fragmentary additions to keep things stable but none of them are named grumpuses nor do I intend on making them.
Stalla was a name suggested by Wiggle. Despite me really not shipping them I think they'd still be in touch, and probably friends! Of course Stalla was already on the list of baby names Gramble had thought about but that list was ten miles long and he had trouble cutting it down.
I know in my last post on this I said Stalla might kr might not be another test tube baby and I have decided not. Gramble would NOT pass up the chance to basically hold his baby for months. No worrying when they're Right There. I am purposefully ignoring all parts of this process other than Gramble in a cute paternity shirt because I don't want to think about Grumpus reproduction headcanons.
Duree is 2 years older than Stalla. Duree is about the same age as their currently unnamed cousin, but said cousin wasn't adopted until they were 4 or 5.
Stalla's fur color was chosen because I was eating fruit in the bottom blueberry yogurt and it was that color.

A Fungus Dangerclaw Masterpost
This is a post about Fungus' relationship with every Grumpus on Snaktooth;
Filbo
•definitely stumbled upon Fungus while looking for Liz
•was initially friendly toward Fungus, until Fungus took it personally and chased Filbo out of the woods, growling and claws beared
•when Fungus inevitably stays in town with the others, Filbo is rightfully so still apprehensive, but as Fungus warms up to him, he warms up to Fungus
•Fungus never learns his name, but knows the word Mayor, so calls him that (it is a constant Filbo Confidence Boost [tm])
Wambus
•would meet Fungus when they'd have come to town
•Fungus has absolutely attacked Wambus, he's the biggest man in town and Fungus believes in fighting for dominance, so he attacks him to become the Alpha of town lol
•Wambus doesnt like to make eye contact with Fungus due to this very event
•Fungus does eventually calm down when Wambus lets them rummage in the farm sometimes; it turns out Fungus is handy for digging holes to plant more crops
•after a while of Fungus trusting Wambus, she starts bringing sticks to the farm and burying them in hopes of growing crops too
•Wambus eventually decides he's adopting them. No arguments.
Beffica
•is morbidly curious of Fungus (that feeling is mutual)
•Beffica has absolutely kept Fungus in her cave out of storms, and so is probably the closest thing to a friend at first to Fungus
•she likes to paint his claws, and he loves to watch her do it, he also loves picking out the colours (pink is his favourite)
•Beffica will sit Fungus down and gossip to them while she paints their nails and brushes their fur, Fungus has no idea what she's saying, but likes to feel included and picks up on some words
•the few words he's learnt from Beff are "Squeeb", "Like", and "OMGee"
•Beffica does understand that Fungus can be dangerous, and she knows when to stop pushing their buttons
Gramble
•Gramble met Fungus in the middle of the night, when they broke into town to steal supplies
•Fungus DIDN'T attack Gramble, only because he's smaller than Fungus and therefore not deemed a threat
•when Fungus stays in town, they become enamored by the barn, and the Bugsnax there (because Fungus refuses to eat them too) and hangs out in the outdoor pen with them
•Fungus inevitably imprints on Gramble and begins following him around and bringing him Bugsnax that are very hard to catch (cheepoofs, grapesketos, lollives, scoopy banoopys) and Gramble is Confused.jpeg
•Gramble learns to trust Fungus when the first fight breaks out at the party (The "that's why your wife left you" Scene) and Fungus defends Gramble, literally standing between him and Wambus
•now Gramble accepts Fungus as family, and is just mildly frightened of them
Wiggle
•with Fungus constantly following Gramble around, it was only a matter of time until they met Wiggle
•Fungus took one look at her and was prepared to fight a bitch, but when Gramble stopped them from attacking her, they stopped being aggressive
•Fungus definitely wants that pink fluffy scarf around Wiggle's neck, but hasn't devised a plan to steal it yet
•Fungus doesnt understand how instruments work, so when Wiggle starts playing her banjo, Fungus is simultaneously frightened and interested
•Fungus begins loving listening to Wiggle's music and starts hitting the ground in percussion with the music
•Wiggle will never pass up on an adoring fan of course, and starts teaching Fungus how to make music, Fungus learns nothing, but is happy to have attention
•Fungus has ended up with the Banjo before, and absolutely tried to eat it
•(Fungus has worn Wiggle's glasses before and was fully prepared to wear them forever)
Triffany
•Triffany would find Fungus in one of the ruins, probably lost
•Triffany would be confused, but curious
•Fungus trusts Triffany quickly, as she's sensible and knows a feral creature when she sees one, so takes her time
•Fungus likes to try and help piece history together with Triffany, but obviously he has no idea what he's ever doing, so he isn't really much help
•Triffany's accent is completely foreign to Fungus, so they can have problems understanding some of her pronunciations, however, they absolutely adore her accent and loves listening to her talk
•Triffany is most likely the Grumpus who brought Fungus to town, probably to show Wambus the creature she adopted, and ask Floofty if any of this makes sense
•Fungus likes to chew on bones Triffany gives him, it helps sharpen his teeth and subdue his pure, feral rage
Cromdo
•Fungus would take a VERY long time to trust Cromdo, due to his sleezy nature
•Fungus absolutely wants whatever Cromdo is selling (because they're a hoarder) but doesn't know of the economy, only knows stick. Fungus will buy material objects with sticks and leaves or Cromdo will die
•a sick part of Cromdo wants to sell Fungus to Floofty for science, but knows that would be the second most illegal thing he's ever done (Grumpus Trafficking is no joke-)
•Fungus would probably want a tie, let's be honest
•to Cromdo, Fungus is like a cat, running around scratching the walls and knocking things off of tables
•Cromdo isn't afraid to scold Fungus, and Fungus will learn to listen in due time
•despite the tension and issues the two have, Fungus does it to show care for Cromdo, everyone knows this but Cromdo
•Fungus likes the word "Pal"
Chandlo
•Chandlo is Fungus' favourite. No questions asked.
•he found Fungus in a tree and brought him home to Snorpy, like gay people do
•"Snorp-dawg, I found a cryptid!"
"you WHAT"
•Fungus appreciates Chandlo so fucking much
•didn't attack for same reason as Gramble (small = not a threat)
•Chandlo likes Fungus because they're a hard-core survivor of the wild, and Chandlo vibes with that
•Fungus originally likes to watch Chandlo work out, finding it fascinating; but eventually starts joining in when Chandlo offers
•Chandlo just wants to keep this feral creature, that is all
•Fungus learns so many words from Chandlo, that he accidentally turns Fungus into a feral version of himself
Snorpy
•Snopry is (rightfully so) terrified of Fungus
•what is it? What's it gender? Why does it barely speak? How much sentience does it have? DOES IT WORK FOR THE GRUMPINATI??!
•but of course, Chandlo wants to keep it and Snorpy can't say no, so he ends up playing babysitter when Chandlo is gone
•Fungus, on the other hand, is enamored. Obviously-
•Fungus understands so little when it comes to Snorpy, all these conspiracies and big words and intricate connections, Fungus has no brain
•Fungus likes to listen though, and likes to look at the conspiracy board (also likes to hoard all the red string lol)
•of course Snorpy warms up to them, mostly when Floofty starts trying to steal them for experiments; Snorpy feels a newfound need to protect this gremlin from his mad scientist sibling
•Fungus just likes the attention
Floofty
•Floofty kidnaps Fungus for experiments (not clickbait)
•I mean, can you blame them? How does Fungus exist? A completely feral Grumpus in a society of modernized, evolved, civilised Grumpuses? They gotta know how Fungus works
•however, Floofty underestimated Fungus' energy, and now they're shouting at a gremlin, who is barking back at them
•Floofty loses so much sleep over keeping Fungus in one place.
•"fascinating...your survival instinct is completely intact- stop chewing my leg."
•Floofty tries to teach Fungus basic language, but learns the next day that Fungus forget everything they learnt
•Fungus doesn't know what to make of Floofty
•Is this good or bad? Friend or foe?
•if Floofty has to hurt Fungus to get what they want, they WILL be attacked (i.e taking blood or testing pain level)
•sometimes Floofty just snaps and throws Fungus into a river to "experiment" if Fungus can swim
•Fungus does like the attention though
Shelda
•Shelda is one of the only Grumpuses that Fungus shows concern and care for OPENLY
•He gives her gifts of sticks and rocks and leaves, and he'll throw a tantrum if she won't take them
•he likes to sit next to her while she meditates so she doesn't get lonely 😳😳
•the only problem with this is that Fungus is easily bored, and will start making noises and bumping rocks together
•and it's very distracting when you're trying to meditate
•But Fungus knows this and tries to behave as best as they can, they wanna make Grandma Shelda happy
•they become a part of Shelda's little fanclub, and listens to her wisdom despite not knowing ANYTHING she's saying
•he pretends he knows, nodding and agreeing all the time
Eggabell
•Eggabell, being a doctor, just wants to get her hands on Fungus to take care of him
•I mean, he's messy, and covered in mud and sticks and leaves
•he probably has the Grumpus equivalent of mange
•he DEFINITELY has fleas
•and she just wants to sit them down and clean them up
•but Fungus isn't having it, and is actually a little scared of Eggabell, as they don't know why she wants them to stay still
•Fungus will learn to trust her, and let her take care of the fleas and rabies and mange
•and when he does, he will never leave her side afterwards. He'll recognise she made him feel better and constantly want her attention
•He may get a little distracting for her sometimes, but she knows he means well
•also, because Fungus is a good listener, Eggabell airs her problems out to them, she knows they don't know what she's saying, but it's nice to rant to them while they eat a whole tree, bit by bit
Lizbert
•there isn't many opportunities where Liz and Fungus would interact sadly, however, I feel like if they did they would get along far too well
•Liz bringing Fungus on adventures around the island? Fungus showing Liz little cave systems they've found so she has shortcuts around the areas? Makes my heart ache-
•Fungus wants the hat, give her the hat Liz-
•because Liz is such a simple name, it would most likely be the only one Fungus would learn
•I can imagine Liz getting distracted from studying Bugsnax and instead studying Fungus, until Filbo or Egg reminds her she has more important things to do
•Fungus is incredibly agile, and I can imagine them scaling trees or cliffs and finding a safer route for Liz to take
•Fungus is Liz's emotional support adventure dog
The Journalist
This would be in terms of if Fungus was a character you'd meet;
•You would meet Fungus in Sugarpine Woods, but somewhere far away from Chandlo and Snorpy.
•Fungus would flee from you once spotted (sorta like the Snaxsquach, but not at certain times).
•You would then have a quest to ask around to see if anyone knew what this Grumpus was (and you would receive a resounding "no").
•The puzzle would then be figuring out how to cohearse Fungus into trusting you, which would be with sticks and rocks, making a pile of them to bait Fungus from hiding.
•Once you would have their trust, you would still have quests to complete before they move from their spot and follow you to town, this would include collecting more sticks and rocks, and finding Bugsnax so Fungus can have friends.
•They'd communicate these quests very poorly, you would probably have to rely on the quest descriptions to figure out what the objective is.
•After enough errands, Fungus would make a happy noise and start following you around. Then, if you walk into town, you approach Filbo and he takes Fungus off your hands.
•When you return to Snaxburg, it's in anarchy as Fungus has gotten out of control. Your next objective is "survive". Eventually, through sticks, rocks and leaves, you calm Fungus down enough for them to live in Snaxburg without killing anyone.
•However, some side-quests would involve Fungus, and the other residents having to deal with them now.
I had this neat idea that all this is optional, you don't have to even do the main quest for Fungus because they weren't supposed to be part of the expedition and know no one. So why interview them, not like you can anyway. You can escape Snaktooth with all the normal residents and leave Fungus on the island, then their fate would be left unknown (but man I'd feel guilty for it 😟).

A certain @cactix-rythmix gave me the idea to write a bit about how I would integrate my grumpuses into the Bugsnax narrative. Of course, I mean Riamam and Tylee!
Just like Cactix, I won't be writing a whole ass fanfic, instead just concept points.
If you aren't into the whole OC thing, skip this post. With those still around, let's get moving!
Pre-Snaktooth
Riamam and Tylee are heading to the dock to the boat, but Ty is having cold feet. I mean, this was an uncharted island in grumping nowhere! And they were blindly following this eccentric adventurer?! But Ria, despite her own worries, comforts Ty, reassuring him that it was their destiny! Beats being struggling artist and musician in New Grump City anyways.
Snaktooth, Pre-Fight
Ria and Ty are still sticking together, however, small cracks start to form in their friendship.
Ria started to hang out more and more with Floofty, by helping them catch Crapples for their experiments. Why Crapples? Because in Ria's words, "I vibe with them. I am the Queen of Crabs." The two of them form a friendship, as Ria forms a one-sided crush on Floofty and she is falling for them hard.
Meanwhile, Ty takes Ria's sudden interest in Floofty personally, as he starts to question why he even came here if Ria was just going to leave him. He found companionship with Filbo, the only normal grump around, but the resentment started to grow.
During the Fight
Ty lets out all his anger towards Ria, calling her names in reference to her now being Floofty's assistant and how she's only doing it to be with Floofty romantically.
Ria tries to fire back but found herself in tears. The overstimulus of everyone shouting, Shelda accusing Floofty, and now her best friend basically calling her a slut was all too much. So she fled, into Boiling Bay with Floofty.
Ty, realizing he pushed his friend too far, retreats to Flavor Falls, hiding behind the waterfalls, falling into a state of despair.
Neither one would actively seek out the other.
Journalist Era
The Journalist would first find Ty and bring him back with Wambus, Beffica, and Gramble. During the "A Minor Celebration" Event, he separates from everyone else but calls out Beffica for picking on Wambus in his moment of weakness. He doesn't say anything about Ria by name (Unless the player has done the interview), only hinting that he misses someone and wants to make amends but has no idea how to. During the "Snaxburg Gets Spooked" Event, Ty mentions Riamam by name for the first time (Outside of the interview) and how she always loves a scary story. After the event "Snaxburg Isn't Safe", Ty stresses over the fact that Riamam is still out there, and if Snaxburg isn't safe and then she could be in danger, to which Snorpy reminds him that they are with Floofty, which doesn't help his mental state.
When the Journalist finally reaches Boiling Bay, Ria and Floofty hang out, Floofty doing their experiments while Ria catches crustation Bugsnax for the both of them. When Floofty is convinced to leave and return to Snaxburg, Ria is hesitant. Floofty tries to convince Ria to come along but she is stubborn. Left with no choice, Floofty threatens to cut off their other leg if she doesn't come with them, to which Ria quickly agrees to come back.
When they both return, Ria and Ty meet face to face after so long. They are very awkward and have small talk like what they have been up to. Ria suddenly tries to apologize but stops herself, saying she's not ready to see Ty again, which Ty agrees with.
The Interviews
Ria:
Who are you? Well, I am Riamam Lampnom, but my friends call me Ria. I am a painter.
Why come to Snaktooth island? When I saw Liz on TV, I was amazed, and inspired, something was calling me to her! So I packed my bags, grabbed T, and headed out here.
T? Yeah Tylee, he's my... Well used to be my best friend. We don't talk much anymore.
Why don't you talk? Because of the fight, that's why.
Thoughts on Bugsnax? Eh, they're alright. I find it interesting that the Crapples like me so much, but Bugsnax makes for some difficult painting subjects. They never stop moving! I find that very strange.
Why did you leave town? Oh boy… Well… As you probably already gathered, there was a huge fight, everyone had a problem with everyone, including Ty with me. Said he I abandoned him as soon as we got here because I’m such a… Well, he used some strong language when it came to my desire for a love life.
What do you mean? I don’t know if you notice but, Floofty and I have a pretty close bond. When I first got here, I spent a lot of time with them
Any info on Lizbert? An inspiring leader, isn’t she? She is brimming with charisma and talent. Such a marvel. But that’s the thing with big shots like Liz: they are big and mighty, but they have cracks in their foundation. Everything falls apart if those cracks are exposed.
What are Lizbert's cracks? Her attachments. Specifically Eggabell. I'm not saying she shouldn't have come along, we needed a doctor, but Eggabell... She was in no condition to come along. She wasn't ok, and Liz knew it. That's the thing about also being the group janitor: You see and overhear the small details.
I think we're done. Anything else you want to add? Yeah. Liz had kept it secret but I overheard her say something about a map of some location far off from here. When she disappeared, I admit I got curious and swiped off her desk. I think you'll have more use for it than I will.
The map Ria gives the player is a sneak peek at the map of Brokentooth!
Ty:
Who are you? Tylee Windskull. I'm a digital musician and artist.
Why come to Snaktooth island? Please... I didn't willingly come here. I was kidnapped.
Kidnapped?! Relax, I'm joking. Well, partially. I was dragged out here by my good friend Riamam. Something about, "I can't do this alone." and "I can't leave you alone.". She meant well... Even though it all kinda fell apart.
Thoughts on Bugsnax? Eh. Kinda bug, kinda snack. They're alright. No complaints.
Why did you leave town? *Sigh* During the fight, I said some things I am not proud of. Looking back, she wasn't the only one in the wrong, but I was too. I let jealousy and rage take me over. After that, I left for Favor falls to hide from my emotions. I never got a chance to say I'm sorry.
Any info on Lizbert? Not really, sorry. As inspirational as she can be, I saw right through the BS. She was just as clueless as we were. I didn't bother myself with the politics around the place.
What happened to Lizbert? I'm calling it now, she's dead, along with Eggabell. If I'm optimistic, it was a quick death, but I'm the kind of guy that goes, "Hey guys that light is a train". Let's be real, it was probably a very slow death.
Thank you for the grim interview. Sorry about that. But I'm trying to be realistic. If you want an insider to how real things were, take this. I found it hidden away somewhere in the falls after the fight. Seems important. i'll see you around, friend.
Ty gives the player a video diary, which shows a second bad day for Eggabell, but Floofty is there to get her into shape for the experiments.
Side Quests
Ria’s side quest is all about finding various bugsnax Floofty needs for their experiments. This will require the player to hunt down a bugsnax of every type (Aggressive, meaty, burrowing, etc)! Bit by bit, Ria reveals her feelings for Floofty to the player, saying how the feeling was sutile but slowly grew with time. After her wuest is complete, she laments that she left Tylee for some stranger. Was she going to throw 5 years of friendship away just like that?
Ty’s side quest is exploring various unseen locations to find the best room for music. He says he’s doing it for Wiggle but as the locations continually don’t work out for one reason or another, Ty reveals he wants to make a song to win Ria back. He never took their dynamic seriously before but with the threat of her leaving him behind, he feels guilty for pushing her away to the point where she did. He couldn’t let 5 years go like that, right?
The Ending
The two avoid each other until the "A Major Celebration" Event where, during the party, they reconcile and become friends again, Ty even becomes Ria's winggrump as she professors her affection to Floofty. Floofty says they will take it into consideration, which Ria sees as a victory. Ty not too much.
The two stick together during the Bugsnax attack, proclaiming their friendship can concur anything.
In the end, the two both learn valuable lessons.
Ria, not to rely on others for approval or happiness, and that she should do things for herself. And if others enjoy it, then good for them.
Ty, to figure out that life isn't as dark as he always thought it to be, that sometimes the light at the end of the tunnel isn't always a train but a simple beam of hope.
Ria would move on to be a painter, messy, but clearly having fun. and Ty would move on to be a DJ at a nightclub, embracing his passions.

alright, so this is the silliest post i’ve ever made, but i think i will elaborate on the somnovem/bugsnax au, actually
(praying that tumblr doesn’t fuck up the readmore because this got long)
the au takes place in a world that’s a bizarro blend of both series, shortly after some version of the iron shepherds arc. please do not question anything about the logistics of this world, because there are no answers. molly dies, but for whatever reason, the mighty nein don’t cross paths with caduceus just yet. cree has been following the mighty nein a lot more closely in this au, so when the mighty nein visit molly’s grave on their way home, it’s already empty.
the tomb takers are on a mission to spread bugsnax to the rest of the world (instead of the somnovem)a. lucien, newly revived (god knows how that all went down), works with cree to rebuild the tomb takers and locate snaktooth island, while the mighty nein set out to track down molly. eventually, the tomb takers find their way to snaktooth, and once the mighty nein learn where the group has gone, they put together an expedition to follow.
their recruits:
shakaste, cali, and keg are obvious choices, as previous allies. i’d throw nila in there too, but, given how her mini-arc ended, i think the m9 would probably want her to stay with her family
reani hasn’t met the group yet, but she’s been receiving visions from samliel telling her of a great danger on snaktooth island. she’s already been searching for a way to get there, and happily joins up with the mighty nein.
essek also hasn’t met the group yet, but, like floofty, essek has somehow gotten whiff of the possibilities of the place and is intrigued. he’s looking for a way to get there that isn’t outright suicidal, and joining this group seems convenient enough.
and finally, the last member is twiggy- just like in canon, they meet her when she stows away on their ship.
(also yasha sticks with the mighty nein in this au, to find out what happened)
the gang arrives on snaktooth island, and at first, things are fine. this is early campaign, though, before a lot of character growth for everyone, so cracks quickly begin to show. it all comes to a head in a big fight that leads to most of the group going their separate ways, and this is where caduceus comes in.
caduceus serves the newcomer/pseudojournalist role, and he has probably not been having the best time. like in canon, the wildmother is pretty fucking concerned about this place and seems to want him to do something about it, but, unlike in canon, he doesn’t have the mighty nein to travel with. it’s not the easiest journey for anyone alone, and, of course, it ends with his airship crash-landing in the middle of a storm. he does, however, meet fjord and jester.
fjord and jester vaguely take on filbo’s role in this au- when the group split, they stayed in town, and are doing their best to bring the village back together. in the middle of the storm, they witnessed the crash, and hurried up to flavor falls to find the airship’s (former) occupant. pretty weird way to meet someone, but, after a bit of exposition, they enlist caduceus’s help.
on their way back to snaxburg, they meet keg in the garden grove. keg is not exactly good with difficult social situations, and the one that led to the group falling apart was a clusterfuck. now that things have calmed down, though, they manage to convince her to return, although probably after some wambus-style “get revenge on that annoying bunger” quests. they also run into shakaste here, but i don’t think he ever really left town- he honestly seems too level-headed.
the five of them reach snaxburg, and the quests to reunite everyone else begin:
caleb and veth are living in the simmering springs. even though their attachment to the group solidified after molly’s death, the transformative powers of the bugsnax and the possibilities for veth(/nott) were too tempting not to investigate. they maybe went a little overboard experimenting, though, leading to arguments with the rest of the group, who grew increasingly concerned and alarmed at what the pair were doing. caleb and veth left the village to continue their studies in peace, but, since they haven’t been having much success, it’s not too difficult to convince them to return.
essek is nearby in the boiling bay for similar reasons, and he, caleb, and veth formed a loose Science Collective in their time away from the rest of the group. this is early campaign essek, though, so he’s still kinda keeping to himself, and it takes longer for him to agree to come back.
cali and twiggy are in the scorched gorge. while investigating the island, cali found evidence of a past cult of the caustic heart presence (if triffany’s grandma and grumpbeard can both have inexplicably died on snaktooth, then so can a member of the cult of the caustic heart lmao), and left the village to investigate. i genuinely think twiggy and cali would be very fast friends, and with everyone going their separate ways, twiggy found someone to stay with rather than stick around for all the fighting. once a caustic heart artifact is located and destroyed, both are willing to come home.
reani is living out in the sizzling sands. the thing about reani is that, due to her dreams, she’s probably the first to suspect the real nature of the island, but, due to the canonical mind-warping powers of bugsnax, reani has a very difficult time convincing anyone else. this is early in her character arc, too, when she has a very strict view on morality, and as much as she liked everyone else initially, the others refusing to stop their bugsnax experimentation/consumption/etc would probably cause some friction. it takes the gang working through some shit for her to return later on.
beau is up in sugarpine woods. pre-kamordah, she’s still struggling with the “leave them before they leave you” mentality, and when the group fell apart, she went yeah, fuck it, guess that’s all i get, and bolted. now that everyone’s coming back together, though, they’re able to convince her to return.
and then, finally, yasha is the eggabell equivalent in frosted peak. as the group started to fracture, she felt they were all losing sight of the real goal of the trip, and did her early campaign yasha thing and just left. like eggabell, she’s been pushing herself hard to find molly, and she refuses to return to snaxburg until he’s rescued.
so the gang is all reunited, character growth takes place, interpersonal conflicts are resolved, and they even make progress on finding molly. great! too bad the volcano’s about to blow. yasha figures out how to get the door open, and the group splits up to defend the town and investigate the undersnax.
and in the undersnax, they discover lucien. turns out that when the tomb takers made it to the island, all of them were consumed except lucien, who managed to take control like lizbert. in a way, this was his plan- take control over the island to bring its powers to the mainland- but he’s struggling. the bugsnax do have mind-warping abilities and are fighting back, so it’s taking him longer than expected to achieve anything (which, despite the natural disasters, is sort of keeping the gang safe, since the island is focused on another threat). the appearance of his old friends destabilizes him even more, and shit starts to really go sideways. part of his mind starts to say, hey, if he lets the island win just a little bit and consume this group, then he can send them back to the mainland as patient zero(s), right? surely, now that he’s in power, they won’t just crumble to dust like the rest of the tomb takers, and he can remain behind to rule the island as a god. all he needs to do is let the island have what it wants, which, right now, is to go full aggro on the mighty nein.
so the bugsnax attack, beginning the “escape from snaktooth” sequence. the gang probably fights some giant monstrosities similar to not-cree, and there’s plenty of opportunity for parallels to gaining eye tattoos during battle. and for sentiment’s sake, right at the end when their airship is about to be knocked out of the sky, a little bit of molly returns just for a moment, and he fulfills lizbert and eggabell’s role as last-minute savior for the rest of the gang.
they all escape but, given who they are, i imagine it’s just to regroup before returning to solve the problem once and for all (and probably to see if that little bit of molly can be rescued in the process).
misc details: au is pretty ship-neutral but, yknow, maybe beau was following yasha up into the mountains, just a little bit. it’s probably also more ensemble-focused than the game, as opposed to the video game logic of caduceus just running around doing everything for everyone else. also, heavily considered a mighty-nein-never-met version of the au where journalist!beau investigates the island as an expositor, but ultimately, this version felt like it had stronger reasons for everyone to be there in the first place.

the stuff wiggle sings in game without actually actively trying to come up with something good is often at least decent while the stuff that she's trying really hard is usually not, plus her best work so far was made while deliriously tired, conclusion she's trying too hard, both to make songs at all and to fit them into a mould - she probably works on this postgame and makes some good music that she hasnt smushed into mediocrity
Yes! So much yes!
As someone who creates stuff I can actually relate pretty well. A thing that’s just thrown out into the public without too much care for how good it is or not taking off and become popular and then trying to emulate that success and failing is something I have experience with. To a much smaller degree than Wiggle of course, I only create fanfic and fanart on the internet and have never even been much of a popular creator there. But still, I feel Wiggle’s struggle there.
So yeah, I agree and like to think that post Snaktooth she works on that and goes to focusing on making/writing music primarily for herself. Maybe she’ll never have a hit as big as Do the Wiggle again but she can still make something that a lot of people end up liking.

Time to continue this! Their arrival to mainland is a bit of a messy one, hiding from everyone, trying to get their lives back on track... Emilette is no different, trying to adjust to the changes she knows she has to make.
Post-Snaktooth:
Going Home
Previous - First - Next
Everyone was hopeful. Despite what they had all gone through, now that the airship had safely arrived at the mainland, everyone was wearing big—although tired—smiles. And understandably so, since despite what her head had told her during those terrifying moments just barely hours ago, everyone had managed to stay in one piece.
While she had been participating here and there with the group, adding in her own commentaries as everyone did their best to conceal their snakified bodies, her eyes were heavy, and soon after everyone was ready she found herself simply listening in silence. When the journalist handed her a piece of the balloon's remains, all she could do was grunt in response as she covered herself with the cloth. The battle from before had taken a toll on her, not being used to moving around so much, but she knew she still had to keep herself awake. At least, until everyone was home…
Her eyes shifted from grumpus to grumpus. Everyone had a place to call home, right? Wambus and Triffany had mentioned the old house they used to live in and how it should still be in good condition; Filbo mentioned something about staying with the journalist; Shelda mentioned her family waiting for her; Snorpy and Chandlo still had enough to afford rent; Floofty, Creetus…
While Wiggle had offered to the few that didn’t have a place of their own to stay for a while at her mansion, Emilette had shied away from the opportunity. It wasn’t as if she didn’t want to accept, especially considering how luxurious it sounded, but… she couldn’t bring herself to. After all she had done to hurt everyone, she couldn’t make them put up with her on a daily basis until who-knew-when.
So, as the gentle sound of the waves faded away and the chattering of the other excited grumpuses filling her ears threatened to lull her to sleep as they walked together, she let her own mind drift away. She never had plans to come back to the mainland; the prospect of leaving everything behind forever had been far too tempting to put too much thought into it at the time. Of course she regretted it now, but what else could she do? The damage was already done, and now reality had once again come back to hit her where it hurt the most: in the end, she was all by herself. Alone.
It took her a moment to realize the group had stopped moving, and goodbyes and see-you-soons were being exchanged. She shook her head in an attempt to keep herself awake enough to respond, and watched the first members of the group leave. Then a few others. Then others.
By the time the limousine arrived, only Wiggle’s group was left. The tall, orange grumpus approached her with a concerned frown, “Darling, are you sure you don’t want to come with us? There’s plenty of space to share.”
Beffica was barely a few steps behind, catching up to the conversation with ease, "Yeah, you're missing out. Wiggle said she has this huge pool and I'm dying to chill there till I'm all wrinkly. You should totes come with."
Emilette waved a paw dismissively, her smile betraying the sick feeling in her chest, “I’ll be fine. You guys have fun, I’m sure Gramble’ll love the ducks or whatever you said you have. And Cromdo’ll be thrilled living the rich life. I'll just…" she gestured to the cloth she was holding around her, "I'll raid that pool once I'm all done dealing with this.”
Wiggle smiled back at her, amused, “Swans, dear, not ducks. But alright, suit yourself. You know where to find me if you need where to go.”
Beffica didn't seem as convinced, frowning instead. "Hey. Keep in touch."
"Y-Yeah…" Emilette replied, unsure on how to react to her concerned expression. Whatever jumped inside her stomach in that moment, she made sure to bury it as deep and quickly as she could. Grump, they had to leave soon before she couldn’t hold herself back anymore.
Cromdo was already in the limousine, admiring the details on the inside, while Gramble stood quietly, waiting for Wiggle. After a quick nod at her, Wiggle turned away and got into the car with him. Beffica took one last glance at her before waving a paw and getting inside with the group.
Emilette watched in silence as the vehicle left, letting her tired smile finally drop to her usual frown. The weight on her chest only increased. Was she truly doing the right thing? She didn’t know the first thing about being a good person, but this was for the others’ sake, right? Even if that ended up putting her directly on the streets.
Maybe she could get in contact with her parents. She could try to find a phone… although remembering their number was another story, not to mention if it was still working at all, or if they cared to pick up. But the situation was desperate enough to try-
“Hey.”
Emilette nearly jumped out of her skin. “Grump- Dude!” She put a paw on her chest, glaring at the source of that trembling voice she recognized well, “You gotta stop doing that.”
Frankley scratched their chin with an apologetic smile, “Sorry. It’s just...” They looked away for a moment, looking for the right words, “Do you... really have somewhere to stay?”
She blinked at them. “Yes- No- I mean-” she clicked her teeth together. “I’ll figure it out.”
Frankley frowned, letting a few moments pass. After realizing Emilette wasn’t going to say anything else, they spoke again. “Why did you tell Wiggle no if you have nowhere to go?”
Emilette huffed, then stopped herself. Instead, she took a deep breath. She had to control her temper, wasn’t that part of the issue? “I… don’t know. I don’t want to be a bother, I guess.”
“But she… offered. And she didn't seem to mind.”
"Please," she rolled her eyes, "she didn't mind because she was already inviting the others in. She had to invite me out of courtesy, too. Or pity, at least."
Frankley looked down the road where the car had gone, pondering, "She and Beffica... really seemed concerned for you-"
“Shit- Listen,” she gestured around her, “I’ve hurt you all enough already, okay? They don’t have to put up with me just because I’m homeless now. That's why I said no, get it now?"
Frankley opened their mouth to reply, but quickly closed it when she continued, now glaring at them. "Why are you here anyway? Why didn’t you take her offer either?”
This time, however, Frankley didn’t miss a beat to reply, “I have a place to rent.”
Emilette's glare dropped, instead now simply replaced by disbelief, “...You do?”
They shrugged, “I always had it just in case, as a backup if I ever had to leave the island. I mentioned it earlier, remember?”
“Oh- Right. Sure, yeah, I remember.” The small grumpus mumbled. She vaguely recalled the conversations from earlier, but could only remember the details of a few in her groggy state. She had no idea Frankley had even spoken at the time, so it came as news for her. From seeing them desperately clinging onto that snak back at the island or following every single word anyone said, they had always seemed the more impulsive kind in her mind, so them having a plan in case of something unexpected was… surprising. Then again, she had never truly bothered to get to know them before.
They noted how she had once again fallen silent. Her eye bags were understandably heavier than usual, but they couldn't help but feel the deepness in which they truly went. It wasn't just the trip that had her this exhausted.
"What if…" Frankley mulled over their words, "What if you stay at my place for a few days?"
"What?!" Emilette snapped out of her thoughts almost immediately.
"I-I mean- just for a bit, until you can get back up on your feet!" They waved their paws, taking a step back at her outburst.
"No- No, no, no, no." She pointed at them. "You of all grumpuses don't get to be nice to me after all the shit I put you through. No."
"But you apologized to me..." Frankley replied.
"That- That still doesn't make it okay! Dude! I just-" she gritted her teeth, "That was exactly my point! You can't just act like nothing happened after what I did! You think I would've been able to say that if I hadn't been drunk?! Don't pretend you like me because I said sorry once. I'm garbage, you can't just let that go for one weakass apology."
"I-" Frankley gulped, "I never said I liked you." they replied.
That was enough to shut her right back up. She stared at them. After everything they'd told her back at the island, she expected as much, but hearing them say that outloud still made something awful stir inside.
"But just because I don't like you doesn't mean I'll leave you to die out there." The yellow grumpus continued. While their voice still trembled, they looked at her with conviction.
Emilette looked away from them, grumbling under her breath.
"I-It's my choice, okay?" Frankley continued once again. "I know how it is to have almost nothing, and I don't want someone I know going through it too. A-and you already rejected your only other option, so…"
Curse them and their kindness. Curse her prickling eyes, threatening to blur her gaze. "Ugh, I should've taken it."
Frankley scratched their chin, "...Yeah."
She didn't look at them again, instead nodding with a small hum, but that was enough response for them. They gave her a small smile. "It's this way," they began walking down the street.
Emilette looked at them for a moment, moving further away with each light step. They were still too naive. Too sweet. Too trusting. Too nice. They were an idiot to offer her a chance when she hadn't done anything to deserve it. But the first signs of a headache were forming due to her exhaustion, and the weight of her own sleepy body was threatening to throw her against the floor at any moment… she wasn't in condition to say no again.
She caught up with them, her gaze refusing to leave the ground. She rubbed her arm, noticing its shape was almost back to normal under her clothing. After a few moments walking side by side in complete silence, she mumbled in the lowest voice she could muster, "Thank you."
Frankley looked down at her, tilting their head. "What was that?"
"Fuck you." Emilette corrected herself out loud, not bothering to look up.
The tall grumpus frowned, disappointed, but stayed silent. The next few days with her around were definitely going to be a challenge.
