Costumes
Yes, I know it's halloween and I tried to write angst but I couldn't do it.
So enjoy this bit of Halloween fluff instead.
“Don’t laugh.”
James is clearly trying very hard to keep a straight face. “I’m not laughing.”
Regulus scowls at his husband. “Why on Earth am I dressed as a discount Dolly Parton right now, James?”
“Don’t act like you don’t know what costume it is. You know exactly what costume it is.” James’ resolve falters and his lips curl up in amusement.
Yes, Regulus does know what costume it is. He is currently wearing blue jeans with cow-print chaps, a white and yellow top, and a red cowgirl hat complete with a fake red plait that’s fetchingly draped over his left shoulder.
“Why do you get to be Woody and I’m stuck with the frilly yellow fabric?” Regulus walks over to the mirror next to the wardrobe and glares at his reflection as he tweaks the cuffs on his ridiculous sleeves.
James isn’t put off though it seems as he comes to stand behind him, his smile wide now. “If it helps, you look very cute in cow-print.”
Regulus rolls his eyes. “Are you telling me you have a thing for cowboys now, Potter?”
James laughs lightly as he wraps his arms around Regulus’ chest and his own hands subconsciously move to hold them. He can’t help himself. James Potter and his strong arms have always been his weakness. Well, one of them anyway.
“Nah I have a thing for you,” James bends down to kiss his cheek, his next words low in his ear, “although now that you mention it, the chaps…”
Regulus rolls his eyes. “Keep it in your pants, Potter, we’ve got places to be.”
As if on cue, the bedroom door is flung open and the world’s most adorable Buzz Lightyear comes bounding in. “Daddy you said you’d be ten minutes and it’s definitely been way more than that!”
James lets go of Regulus’ chest, but keeps his right arm wrapped around his husband’s waist as he turns to face their son.
“Sorry Harry. I was ready in ten minutes but your papa was taking his time as usual.”
Regulus hits him lightly in the stomach. “Maybe if I didn’t have to figure out how to pin my hair up so it didn’t show under the wig, we’d be leaving on time.”
James nods. “It does look good, love. Don’t you think so Harry?”
Harry nods too, a mirror image of his father. “You look just like Jessie! She’s my favourite you know? Well, after Buzz.”
And how could Regulus do anything but melt at that comment? Because this is the reason he agreed to the ridiculous outfit- his son’s request for them to dress as his favourite characters from his favourite movie.
Harry is and always will be his biggest weakness.
Regulus finally smiles now, fully and properly, and moves to kneel down in front of the grinning six year old, adjusting the helmet that is slightly wonky on his head. “Buzz is my favourite too.”
“Really?”
“Absolutely. How could he not be?”
“Exactly! Daddy says that his favourite is Rex.”
“Yes well Daddy is wrong as usual.”
“Hey!” Regulus turns to his husband’s mildly hurt facial expression.
“Two against one.”
“We win!” Harry exclaims and James’ face immediately shifts back to a smile. He scoops Harry up, careful not to damage his wing in the process.
“I guess we’ll have to watch it later to really decide a winner, won’t we?”
Harry looks at Regulus who is now standing next to them. “Can we, Papa?” His voice is brimming with excitement
“Let’s see how we feel after trick or treating, yeah?”
Harry thinks on this for a second before nodding. “Okay.”
“Speaking of which, we’d better get going before all the good sweets are taken,” James says as he puts Harry down. “Why don’t you go and grab your bucket and we’ll be out in a second?”
Harry furrows his brow and Regulus speaks, “I promise I won’t take forever this time.”
“Okay,” Harry says, easily convinced, and he rushes back out of the bedroom.
James turns to Regulus, his smile soft and his eyes glinting with the same joy that he just saw written across their son’s face. “Are you ready?”
And as Regulus takes one last look at himself in the mirror he no longer sees a stupid cowgirl costume that his husband made him wear. He sees a stupid cowgirl costume that belongs to his son’s second favourite Toy Story character. And while the former may not have been enough of a reason for him to pull on a pair of leather boots and go outside to be seen by the general public, the latter definitely is.
So he answers with a nod of his head and a tone more resolute than he ever thought it would be under the given circumstances. “Let’s do this.”
“To infinity and beyond?”
“Don’t push it, Potter.”

A non-serious attempt at comedy/list about what your favourite incarnation of the Master says about you:
Roger Delgado: They just like more dialogue and richer themes in your storyline, preferring character interaction and chemistry rather than spectacle. They also make sure their outfits are neat, stylish and elegant. Always colour co-ordinated. Usually quite calm and collected until you say Terror of the Autons is just a remake of Spearhead From Space.
Peter Pratt: Basically a Fourth Doctor fan who refuses to admit there are flaws with The Deadly Assassin or a fan of horror films. More than likely grew up in the seventies. Definitely looks into their KFC bucket and sees lots of little Masters staring back at them.
Geoffrey Beevers: Basically the same as the Pratt fan, although this one refuses to admit there are flaws in the Fourth Doctor's era as a whole. If you tell them Tom Baker stayed on for too long, prepare to have your intestines made into a scarf. Usually forgets about 90% of the plot of Logopolis. Almost certainly a child of the 70s, hence why they see this Master in the mirror each morning.
Anthony Ainley: Likes to just have fun, no matter how corny or wierd the stories are. Will happily just sit and watch the Master basically trolling the Doctor with minor inconveniences, waiting for the inevitable moment when that character hovering in the background with a not-quite-as-clearly-defined backstory pulls off a mask and wig to reveal a goatee. Is somehow able to enjoy Time Flight. Do not ask them their opinion on the TV Movie.
Eric Roberts: A legend amongst humans. Saw the campy, over-the-top dressing gown/robe, the bad cgi snakes, the wierd terminator references and thought "yes, this is clearly the best one." Constantly annoys purist classic series fans simply by existing and does not care. Knows the TV Movie is mid and does not care. Knows that the Eye of Harmony was originally on Gallifrey and does not care. Has definitely said "I always... dress for the occasion" and does not care that no-one gets the reference.
Derek Jacobi: Sold their soul to Big Finish for the War Master range. Religiously watches Utopia to see that reveal again, and wishes Chantho had been fully fried before shooting the Master. Now all they can do is offer sacrifices to Nicholas Briggs and sit in a darkened room, staring at the Big Finish website.
John Simm: Probably has fan art saved to their phone, and has almost certainly read Ten/Master fanfiction at some point. Will defend Last of the Time Lords and The End of Time Part 1 with their dying breath (and for good reason, those episodes slap and those two slightly dodgy scenes don't ruin them, Moffat did worse retcons, fight me). Cried when their Master showed up in The Doctor Falls and usually has good relations with Missy fans because of it. Thinks Sacha Dhawan is a lazy rip-off. Can usually be found comforting the Jacobi fan after their War Master box set has been delayed.
Michelle Gomez: Basically the same as the Simm fan, only this one defends the Moffat era and their fanfiction search history is a bit more varied. Thinks Death in Heaven was a good episode, and that The Doctor Falls should have been the last Master episode. Hates Chibnall for bulldozing all their character development and rendering this incarnation's redemption slightly pointless. Usually slightly more forward-thinking than some other fans and great with their friends. Has formed an unlikely alliance with Delgado fans... somehow.
Sacha Dhawan: Took one look at the most quirked up Master and decided that was the one. Thinks John Simm was OK, but lacked the "evil four-year-old on a sugar rush" energy of this one. Usually bitter rivals with Missy fans, as everyone started re-evaluating the Moffat era instead of watching S12, and will go strangely quiet whenever the Timeless Child is mentioned, praying that someone will say that it should have been the Master and thus giving them a "get out of jail" card. Was absolutely overjoyed when people enjoyed Power of the Doctor. Convinced that the Chibnall Era will receive a massive reappraisal in the future, despite the fact that the odds of that happening are about the same as the Terry Nation estate accepting that the Daleks are overused.
Alex Maqueen: Sold everything to Big Finish. Doesn't even watch the show. Can't watch the show. Who needs the show when you've just spent all your month's wages on that box set? It's not like you need to eat or anything. The most likely individual to end up in a padded cell when someone doesn't know what Dark Eyes was.
Gina McKee: Missy fans, but with small social circles and a heavy dose of Weezer.
Mark Gatiss, James Dreyfus, Milo Parker: Wait, these guys played the Master?
If you really want more of this shit (why), there's a list about favourite Doctors and Companions

Do you mind if I ask your top 10 favorite characters (can be male or female) from all of the media that you loved (can be anime/manga, books, movies or tv series)? And why do you love them? Sorry if you've answered this question before.....Thanks...
Omg hi! First of all thanks for asking! I haven’t answered this question before and I absolutely do not mind answering this. This is a tough one though because I’ve consumed so much media and love so many characters it’s so difficult to choose but I will give it a shot nonetheless. Also these ten characters are not in any particular order.
Laurent Of Vere: Laurent is introduced as the frigid and dangerous prince of Vere in the book 1 of the captive prince trilogy. I HATED this man on my first reading but as the trilogy progressed, I just fell in love with him. He had an astounding amount of growth and character development. Not to mention his qualities and traits make him an all around admirable character. I may not be putting the characters in this list in order but Laurent is definitely my favourite character of all time.
Fleabag: Fleabag from Fleabag is another character I deeply love. She is funny, she is selfish, she is a tragedy of her own doing. It’s the way she is so deeply flawed yet so damn loveable at the same time that gets me. We are all fleabag at the end of the day aren’t we?
Baz: Baz from Carry On trilogy had to be here like the list won’t be complete without my poor little meow meow. He is one of those few characters who is very very close to my heart and it so hard to not love this dramatic gay vampire. Just love his snark and he is so funny??? I love it so much. Not to mention he truly is one of the kindest characters I’ve read.
Penelope Bunce: Another character from the Carry On trilogy. Penelope means the world to me because as a brown person, I don’t get to read a lot of books which feature brown characters. So seeing a character who is the best friend of the protagonist and has a major role in the series, it’s very refreshing and reassuring to me. Penelope is smart, stubborn, never admits she might be wrong but her growth over the three books is amazing. I will always love her.
Eren Yeager: literally one of the most tragic characters I’ve seen till date. As the protagonist (antagonist? anti hero? Idk anymore) of attack on titan, Eren is one of the most iconic characters I’ve come across till date. His unconditional devotion for his friends and his character arc from being the righteous hero to someone who becomes completely disillusioned by the end, it’s fucking amazing.
Geto Suguru: I have a beef with Jujutsu Kaisen and the reason is that Gege Akutami came up with absolutely amazing characters only to under-utilise and shit on their character arcs with his half assed plot. Surprisingly though, Geto’s character arc is amazing. I love it when heroes lose the sight of their goals and become the villains instead and Geto does that. His character development is really good and I love him for that. Incredibly realistic and refreshing to see.
Jiang Cheng: Jiang Cheng from MDZS remains one of the most relatable characters I’ve come across ever. Like I feel him on a spiritual level. The complexity and depth of his emotions, his actions, being so fucking good but never being good enough… good lord my heart straight up bleeds for him. I will always love Jiang Cheng.
Xue Yang: Hear me out okay. I know Xue Yang from MDZS is a psychopath. I’m not a Xue Yang apologist either. What he did to Xingchen was appalling to say the least. But Xue Yang is undoubtedly an incredibly well written character. He loved or should I say obsessed over XXC in such a sick and twisted way, it made for a very interesting read. The way he deluded even himself into believing that his extreme actions were all to torment XXC and not because he enjoyed his company and liked him… like girl be ffr right now who tf are you kidding. But yeah love me an insane psychotic gremlin.
Violet Evergarden: Violet from Violet Evergarden is one of the most heartbreaking characters I’ve come across and also one of the most unique. I’m a sucker for stories that tell the most human stories and Violet as a child soldier discovering these emotions, thoughts and vivid lives of people while coming to terms with her own trauma really gives her a special place in my heart.
Howl: Howl from Howls Moving Castle is one of my favorites because he is a hot babygirl. As simple as that.
Thanks so much for asking! Sorry it took me a while to get back to you but I hope you liked this list 💗💗💗

Well, Tumblr decided to bug out on me and I've now lost the original question that was asked, but someone had asked for my favorite series (be it manga/anime/movies/Tv/etc), and this was my response.
(first of all, so sorry for losing the question! I should have taken a screenshot or something when Tumblr wouldn't let me post)
It's all good, I enjoy getting these types of questions because they make me think about this stuff haha. I'm not one to really do well with the idea of favorites, so having to pin down stuff like this can be interesting for me!
That said, for this one I might just stick with anime for the list to make it a little easier. I can definitely do a top ten of manga or other stuff later on though. Also, this list will be in no particular order because I'd be stuck forever trying to figure out a satisfying order for them.
Sonny Boy
Tumblr media
I think it's a very fair point to argue, that at this stage in his career, Sonny Boy is Shingo Natsume's magnum opus. There's just not much else to it. It's a series that he created, from his own mind and talent, and he executed on that. There are very, very few people that work in anime that can manage a feat such as that. In terms of story, I don't have any issue with claiming Sonny Boy is the pinnacle of high school storytelling. It stretches the fabric of reality so far that you might struggle to claim that it's about high school, but the longer that you spend with it, the more undeniable a fact it becomes. Or maybe you could generalize it to the human condition, or how the cracks in society will fester and form no matter the condition, or how authority will always appear in a self-serving manner, or this or that or any concept under the sun.
Terror In Resonance
Tumblr media
Call me crazy, but there's quite a few reasons why this is the Shinichiro Watanabe anime for me. Bebop and Champloo have rose colored glasses that adorn every fan in the community, so I feel like it's hard to really take a proper look at it compared to Terror In Resonance (even though it has a similar amount of users on MAL). As a Mappa project, it is simply the best they've ever been from start to finish. As a concept, Watanabe's approach is impeccable as it examines the frustration and sorrow of displaced children in a society that never wanted them. It's powerful, concise, and from start to finish an incredibly focused series filled with some of the crowning achievements of animators in the industry. Seriously. Takashi Hashimoto, the animator for this cut, actually did all the math to calculate the speed of the smoke as it fell and moved. Some of the best work you'll see on an anime.
Vivy: Fluorite Eye's Song
Tumblr media
I am a big, big fan of Tappei Nagatsuki's work, so being able to experience an anime that is entirely his vision of the work is really impressive. It's one of the biggest struggles with artists, I find. Understanding their work through different mediums. What you see as an anime is not what they created as a manga, or light novel. But this is different, it is Nagatsuki's (and Umehara's) sole vision, the entire intent behind their creativity. And WIT knocked it out of the park to an insane degree. As a post-AoT studio, they showed just how far they can push their creativity and execution on a series beyond human. Incredible story, incredible animation, arguably some of the best hand to hand combat we've seen in an anime in a very long time. It's just that good.
Tumblr media
Cyberpunk: Edgerunners
Tumblr media
Maybe you see a trend going on with my picks, and while yes it's partly recency bias, it's also a gravitation towards anime originals. I'll add a piece to that at the end, but this is about Edgerunners right now. I was in high school when the video game was first announced. That's a decade ago, now. I played the shit out of 2077 when it dropped, and I'm absolutely eating up Phantom Liberty currently. It is then, absolutely no surprise, that I've placed Edgerunners on a pedestal. But of course, there's also a reason that Edgerunners is in the top 100 anime on MAL, and why it's Trigger's highest rated anime. It's just that damn good. An incredible story revolving around Night City and the themes that Mike Pondsmith laid the groundwork for decades ago. A true tribute to the tabletop game and the genre at large.
The Tatami Galaxy
Tumblr media
I don't think there's a way I couldn't put The Tatami Galaxy on this list, truthfully. Of course, that also encompasses the sequel ONA The Time Machine Blues, and spinoffs like The Night Is Short, Walk on Girl. Tomohiko Morimi is a genius, Yusuke Nakamura is an icon, and Masaaki Yuasa is a savant. Incredible work for such an incredible story and message about the pursuit of perfection and the beauty that lies in the present. Arguably, much like titles such as Sonny Boy, these are 100% must watch titles for an anime fan. I'd highly recommend the others still, but these two represent such core and important aspects to how people choose to lead their lives and the frameworks that they do so within, that I strongly believe it's a requirement. I also wrote a review on the novel when I read it in January of this year.
Heike Monogatari
Tumblr media
I think history is a very important thing to understand. I also think that history can be presented as obtuse, disinteresting, or too literal - especially in relation to history stories or myths. Heike Monogatari by Science Saru is arguably one of the greatest examples of how to display a modernized version of such a foundational tale to the history of Japan. It's also an incredibly powerful moment for the director, Naoko Yamada, as it was their first real work since the arson attacks on her home studio of Kyoto Animation. Because of the weight of her past, her work beyond words on this anime feels that much more powerful considering its messages about the past and fear of the future. It's wonderfully emotional, and contains one of my favorite closing scenes to a series.
The Saga of Tanya The Evil
Tumblr media
Light novel aside, anime quality aside (though both are great), there's a separate reason this title is featured on this list: the adaptation. It is, for lack of a better term, borderline insane as an adaptation. It bears almost no similarity to its source. The tone is different, the scope and scale differ, there's significant changes in terms of narrative, and even the order of large scale events differs. But still, somehow, it remains a fantastic series. Bearing nearly zero resemblance to what it claims to adapt, it is something that I love. It's an incredible feat, and the gold standard of its one-of-a-kind approach to adapting a light novel.
Mononoke
Tumblr media
Horror is a very hard thing to do right, at least in my opinion. Many get suckered into thriller territory very quickly, and avoid the psychological nature of horror. The immovable nature of something fearful standing in front of you, the slow descent into madness and despair. Mononoke grasps that incredibly well, and earns a spot on this list because of it's appeal in that manner. Also, the art is just incredible, personifying the more classical style that would be associated with the creatures and myths that pepper the story. I'm incredibly excited to see what comes from the upcoming movie.
Welcome To The N.H.K
Tumblr media
While it may differ between its three formats, the core of the story stands strong. Impossible to put into words, it's more of a descent than anything. A descent that turns inwards on each of the characters as they slowly lose their grip on reality, as they continue to fall apart, piece by piece. I have my qualms about how they choose to end it, but I am a very bitter man at my core so it's more a personal difference than a quality one. Regardless, if you want an acid trip down the rabbit hole of depression, mania, bipolar disorder, borderline personality disorder, and all manner of other illness, there's no better story than Welcome To The N.H.K.
Toradora!
Tumblr media
There's something special about Toradora to me. Is it the era that the anime comes from? Is it the appeal to a classic style of romance without falling prey to the issues of the layout? I'm unsure. But something about it feels so… comfortable, to me. I could watch it again and again and enjoy each minute. It's probably not the best romance anime out there, but it's one that I'll always be drawn to.
And with that, the list is over. Just to provide some extra context and honorable mentions, I'd love to have put series like Alien 9 or Monogatari on the list, but the challenge with them is the fact that the first is a shorter OVA, and the latter is a much larger series encompasses nearly too much to explain in this sort of context. There's really quite a few series like that that I struggled with when forming this list, but they're still really great titles nonetheless.
Anyways, the anime original point. While it's sort of an unconscious thing, I do realize what I do with it. Anime originals present something that you can't experience elsewhere. They are the end all be all of their creative vision, and that excites me more than a manga adaptation. Following someone else's blueprint vs creating your own, obviously one is more interesting than the other. And that sentiment extends to some of the other titles on the list like Heike Monogatari which approaches a classic story with a radical new viewpoint, or Tanya The Evil which basically forgoes the vast majority of its source material. It's really something I struggle with at large with adaptations. So many people want to leave their marks on the work, but quit just short of doing so in a meaningful manner. Very few go the mile to say that they did something in regards to the work, and instead meddle with it in minor ways which can negatively impact its reception as the original material. A great example of valuable changes is Heavenly Delusion. The team under Hirotaka completely re-arrange the order of events in the anime, and in doing so elevate the series in a way that only they can. Anyways, I digress, a discussion that I should leave for another time. This is my list, it may not be the best list out there, but it is mine.

for definitely not monetary reasons, the request was “More on Spy and Pyro having to share a bathroom (shared ensuite because Mann Co. are cheapskates), please!”
warnings for brief alcohol mention, enjoy some wholesome (?) spy&pyro
-
There were many worrying things to find in the ensuite Jack-and-Jill bathroom. A full flame-resistant suit hung up to dry like some sort of post-apocalyptic wraith. Four-in-one shampoo, contidioner, body wash, and nail polish remover. Once, a spider. A very large one.
Perhaps this wasn’t the most worrying thing to find in the ensuite. But he would consider it in the top ten.
Pyro’s head whipped up in his direction, eyes wide, shocked, as if he was the one doing something questionable. The dog’s head followed lazily a moment later, dripping suds onto the tile floor.
Spy’s eyes moved over the dog—a Great Dane, if he had to take a guess. Trailed over the fluffy, imported, monogrammed towel that was in Pyro’s off hand, soaked with the same sort of sandy grime that was slowly flowing down the drain. Over the trail of muddy pawprints that led from their door all around the bathroom, including on the hand-woven rug he had in front of his side of the counter and, inexplicably, dotted haphazardly across the shower curtain.
“Spy, do you,” Pyro signed slowly, calmly, “like dogs?”
Spy felt his eye twitch. In the bathtub, a glob of drool fell from the dog’s mouth and onto the towel in Pyro’s hand. “Not remotely,” he deadpanned.
“Okay. Do you,” Pyro asked next, “like secrets?”
Spy inhaled. Exhaled. “I don’t know what you mean,” he intoned calmly. “I haven’t seen anything lately that would remotely qualify as a secret. Unless you’re referring to the fact that you’re planning to surprise me by scrubbing our bathroom absolutely spotless, in which case, oui. I adore secrets.”
Pyro looked at him. Looked at the dog. Looked at him. “I like secrets too,” they finally signed.
Spy was not in the mood for any sort of shenanigans. Not while wearing a bathrobe. But he had a terrible, terrible sinking feeling that this would not, in fact, be the end of this. To risk sounding like the action stars present in Scout’s terrible movies, it was perhaps only the beginning.
“Do not name it,” he warned. “You’ll get attached.”
“His name is Butane,” Pyro replied.
“Of course it is,” Spy sighed. Butane the dog licked its chops. Spy wrinkled his nose as another glob of slobber fell free. “Well, much like the rest of your lighter fluid, I am not going to be tolerating it in our base, but especially not in the bathroom I am forced to share with you.”
“I have to deal with your bourbon and cologne taking up a whole cabinet,” Pyro protested. “And he won’t even be a problem!”
“My bourbon does not drip spit onto custom-made towels. Which I do not recall giving you permission to use,” Spy scowled.
“My towels are in the wash.” Pyro gave the dog a scratch behind the ears, and it blinked balefully up at Spy, one eye at a time. “And you have like, ten.”
Spy wanted to sigh, but that would require taking a deep breath again, and the stench of wet dog was already nearly suffocating.
“Come on,” Pyro tried, giving a much more immediately effective pair of puppy-dog eyes, helped by the fact that they didn’t look like a big, sad, wet flour sack that had some legs slapped onto it and not a single microsecond of obedience training.
“I don’t know why you’re pleading with me,” Spy droned. “Like I said. I didn’t see anything.”
Pyro cheered, throwing their arms up. The Great Dane took that as it’s cue to shake.
Spy couldn’t help it. He sighed as he wiped soap from his eyes. “I’ll just go shower in the locker rooms,” he mumbled, shutting the door behind him.

End of the year book-reading ask game.
Yes, I decided to answer every question.
Did you set a goal for yourself this year? How did you do? If not, why not? I did not set a goal this year. I just told myself to have fun. I really only set a goal in November, which was to read more books this year than I ever have because I was two books away from doing so. And wow, I really read a lot of books. Way more than ever before.
Did any book inspire you to seek out further media, such as the movie/show/fanfiction? How did you feel about that take? I don't really think so.
Did consuming any piece of media inspire you to pick up the book? How did it compare? No,
If you DNF any books, what was the pettiest reason you put a book down this year? I DNF'ed one book because there was a description saying a character's eyebrows rose into her hairline. Yep.
What's a scene you read this year that sticks with you? The last scene of The Fifth Season by N. K. Jemisin when everything just really comes together and the main character's past lover leans in and asks her if she's ever heard of anything called the moon. Totally broke my mind because they didn't have a freakin' moon!
Any new favorite authors? Marshall J. Moore, N. K. Jemisin, Martha Wells, Freya Marske, R. F. Kuang, and Rachel Smythe.
Any old favorites let you down? Jennifer L. Armentrout. She became one of my favorite authors last year. All I can say is: girl, get your shit together.
If someone were to ask you what your top ten books for this year were, which would you choose? So this is 16 instead of 10, but I couldn't narrow them down. They're all so good. Bloodmarked by Tracy Deonn, Torn by Jennifer L. Armentrout, Artificial Condition by Martha Wells, The Fifth Season by N. K. Jemisin, The Awoken City by Marshall J. Moore, The Broken Kingdoms by N. K. Jemisin, She Who Became the Sun by Shelley Parker-Chan, Life by Pumpkin by Leslie Popp, Shards of Earth by Adrian Tchaikovsky, The Librarian by Air and Nothingness Press, Dracula by Bram Stoker, A Power Unbound by Freya Marske, Bookshops & Bonedust by Travis Baldree, The Frugal Wizard’s Handbook for Surviving Medieval England by Brandon Sanderson, Yumi and the Nightmare Painter by Brandon Sanderson, and The Graveyard Book by Neil Gaiman.
What book(s) had the biggest influence over your life this year? The Lord of the Rings because it genuinely kept me alive when my seizure disorder made itself known, and when I first developed the autoimmune disorder as well. It kept me alive when my leg was broken and I was bed-bound. It saved my life.
Any books you hate-read this year? Yeah, no. I never do that. Why hate-read when you can go read something you would genuinely enjoy?
Any books with large fandoms? The Lord of the Rings by J. R. R. Tolkien, Good Omens by Neil Gaiman & Terry Pratchett, Lore Olympus by Rachel Smythe, any book by Brandon Sanderson, The Chalice of the Gods by Rick Riordan, The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins, and I think Blood and Ash and Flesh and Fire by Jennifer L. Armentrout has a big fandom.
Did any book inspire you to create? Perhaps Babel by R. F. Kuang. There was an interview with the author at the back that made me feel better about choosing to write Chinese fantasy despite not being Chinese myself.
How would you summarize your reading choices for this year? Popular, yet somehow a bit niche at the same time.
Did you binge any series this year? The Lord of the Rings, The Fifth Season, Inheritance (also by N. K. Jemisin), The Poppy War by R. F. Kuang, The Rites of Resurrection by Marshall J. Moore, The Final Architecture by Adrian Tchaikovsky, The Summer King by Jennifer L. Armentrout, Wicked by Jennifer L. Armentrout, Murderbot by Martha Wells, The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins, and Lore Olympus by Rachel Smythe.
A book you never thought you'd be into but were proven wrong Definitely The Fifth Season by N. K. Jemisin. A good portion of it is written in second person, and I was surprised I enjoyed it so much.
Most read trope this year? Was this intentional or unintentional? Honestly, I have no idea. I haven't really been keeping track of that stuff.
A book you reread this year. Did it hold up to how you remembered it? The Lord of the Rings. Always.
Some books you bought this year (insert picture of my bookcase and my stack of books to read here)
Did you utilize your library this year? What were some library events you went to if yes? Any new library cards? I used Libby a lot! I have a library card with my local library, and a virtual one with the Boston library. I also have a card from The Librarian.
Would you say that you had any kind of growth as a reader? Yes. I read a lot of books I thought I wouldn't like. I read more diverse authors. I also read so much more than I ever have despite all my difficulties this year.
How have you kept track of the books you read this year? I just write them down on the notes app when I finish them. I also started using Goodreads in April.
What are some books you discovered this year that you added to your tbr? Yeah, uh, there are a million for this.
What new releases did you read this year? The Ashen City by Marshall J. Moore, Heart of the Sun Warrior by Sue Lynn Tan, The Awoken City by Marshall J. Moore, Son of a Sailor by Marshall J. Moore, The Sun and the Star by Rick Riordan & Mark Oshiro, A Soul of Ash and Blood by Jennifer L. Armentrout, A Restless Truth by Freya Marske, He Who Drowned the World by Shelley Parker-Chan, Fall of Ruin and Wrath by Jennifer L. Armentrout, The Chalice of the Gods by Rick Riordan, Prisoners of a Pirate Queen by Marshall J. Moore, A Fire in the Flesh by Jennifer L. Armentrout, Bookshops & Bonedust by Travis Baldree, and Brandon Sanderson's Secret Projects.
What new releases are you looking forward to next year? Definitely the third Crescent City book by Sarah J. Maas, and I think the sixth book for A Court of Thorns and Roses is coming out too. And anything by Marshall J. Moore, obviously. I'll give more Jennifer L. Armentrout books a try, I suppose.
If you had to give a TEDTalk on a book you read this year, for better or worse, which would it be? Probably Yumi and the Nightmare Painter by Brandon Sanderson. I could talk about the slow build-up with the romance and how when the climax hits you realize just how invested you actually were with the romance the whole time. I could talk about the different cultures it's based off of. I could also talk about it's anti-AI sentiments (one of my favorite parts), and I could talk about the message about all art created by humans being important, no matter what medium it may be in, and there was also the message about respecting art and cultures you may not understand.
What are your reading goals for next year? Honestly, if I had a goal it would be to read 100 books, which... doesn't seem doable. The number is just too intimidating.

13 for James and Laura, 4 and 8 for James, 7 for Ben and Brick, 19 and 47 for Brick, 1 and 43 for Ben, 50 and 38 for Laura. Sorry if it's too much!
No no that’s not too much at all! Goodness I actually rather love getting so many numbers so buckle up we got a lot of ground to cover
13.) Do they enjoy poetry? James and Laura
Both of them love poetry actually! For James, poetry is one of the few genres of writing he doesn’t have a hard time reading or understanding, so he devours poems like he needs them to live. He simply adores the cadence of old poetry and how you can use them to communicate very complicated feelings with just a few stanzas. His mom actually got him a book of poetry for his birthday when he was maybe ten and it’s his prized possession. The margines are filled with notes and scribble doodles and he brings it everywhere with him
Laura writes much more poetry than she reads, though she does a lot of both. She enjoys writing free verse the most and has journals full of her writing. Sometimes she’ll let James read them and offer critique if she needs it since he’s gotten pretty good at poetry analysis. He loves reading her stuff
4.) Do they enjoy baking? James
Yes he does! James is actually a pretty good cook all around and baking is definitely something he enjoys quite a bit. I think a while ago I said he wasn’t very good at baking but that was a lie. He’s great at it. He’s that one kid who brings homemade dessert to every event and everything he makes is always gone within ten minutes tops. Also, because he’s a giant, the stuff he makes is giant sized so his human friends are always in luck any time he decides to bring treats.
8.) Do they collect anything? If so what and why? James
I think he might collect wine corks or something, mostly because that’s something I used to do, and I think he’d probably collect them for the same reason I did. They just smell really nice and have a fantastic texture. He’s got a pretty decent sized box full of them and while he doesn’t know what he wants to do with them, he’s not about to get rid of them either.
7.) Do they have any unusual fears? Ben and Brick
Hmmmmm good question. Ben is rather scared of spiders, which I guess isn’t exactly an unusual fear lol. I personally love spiders though so it’s unusual to me. He just hates their little beady eyes and all those legs. Nope spiders are up to something and can’t be trusted.
Brick isn’t scared of much, but he absolutely hates ice skates. That comes from an episode of some ice skating show he watched once where a skater accidentally fell and her fingers were skates over by her partner. Safe to say he refuses to step foot in a skating rink after seeing that.
19.) How easy is it to become their friend? Brick
Honestly? Not that hard. He doesn’t have many close friends just because of how intimidating and aggressive he can be, but genuinely he’s a pretty friendly guy so if you approach him and aren’t scared off by how physical he can be then he won’t turn down an offer of friendship. Just know that being his friend also means you’re on the menu. This is non negotiable
47.) Would they lie to get someone else out of trouble? Even if they would have to take that someone else’s place? Brick
I’m going to say probably not. It’s not because he doesn’t care about the person in trouble, but he’s under the mindset that if you do something stupid then you gotta be man enough to face the consequences. Simple as that. I think...if it were like, a properly dangerous situation though he might consider taking the fall, but that’s a big maybe.
1.) Do they have any crafting hobbies? Ben
Oh absolutely. He’s not the most artistic person in the world (at least, compared to his brother), but he does love to make props for his little movies. He’s not half bad at it either and can be surprisingly resourceful when it comes to putting together low budget sets, costumes, and other things like that.
43.) Can they handle stressful situations? Ben
Not incredibly well no. When he’s under too much stress Ben has the tendency to push himself way too hard to the point of pulling several all nighters within a week, and he’ll usually forget to eat during that period too. He just kinda pours all his energy into whatever is stressing him out and gets pretty bad tunnel vision to the point where he’ll whip himself up into a panic attack over the littlest thing and James will have to calm him down, usually by eating him. That forces him to actually, you know, take a break and sleep
50.) What is your favorite thing about them? Laura
Oh man that’s a tricky question. I think my favorite thing about her is how sweet she is? Because she’s sweet in a very strong way. Like, for her being kind and gentle is 100% a choice and a strength, and she doesn’t let anyone walk over her just because she’s nice if that makes any sense. She won’t go out of her way to start a fight and in fact she’ll avoid that at all costs, but she also won’t hesitate to defend her friends
38.) What are their dreams like? Do they have any recurring dreams/nightmares? Laura
Oh boy she’s definitely like me where she’ll have nightmares about late assignments and such haha, but her most common one is about having to speak on stage. She’s always a terrible fear of public speaking, which is probably one reason she loves performing ballet. It’s a medium where she can show off her talents for an audience without ever needing to open her mouth you know? Aside from those nightmares she generally has very light, airy dreams if that makes any sense. She’s one of those people who never lost the ability to fly in her dreams, and more often than not will also dream about whatever book she was last reading.

The Devils I Know - Honorable Mentions
Welcome to “The Devils I Know!” For this spooky time of year, from now till Halloween, I’ll be counting down My Top 31 Depictions of the Devil, from movies, television, video games, and more! Tomorrow, we’ll be starting the countdown in earnest. But before we do, I wanted to go over some Honorable Mentions. Here are Ten Devious Devils that I enjoy, but ultimately didn’t make the final cut.
Tumblr media
1.     Diablo, from the Diablo Video Game Series.
The main reason a lot of these Devils are in the Honorable Mentions section is, very frankly, because I don’t know that much about them. I know some of them are very popular and well-known, but they’ve just kind of sailed over my head, for the most part. Diablo – the titular antagonist of the video game series by the same name – is no exception. I’ve never actually played any of the Diablo games, although I have watched some videos from them and looked a bit into the lore. Diablo himself is a particularly frightful and fiendish portrayal of the ultimate evil; probably the single most renowned take on the Devil in video game history: a being who feeds on fear and relishes in the misery he causes, like a cross between Pennywise and…well…the Devil. Ultimately, it’s only the fact I’m not SUPER familiar with the franchise that keeps him out of the running.
Tumblr media
2.     Diavolo, from Obey Me!
While some of the Devils on here are in the Honorable Mentions because I just don’t know much about them, others are here because I wasn’t entirely sure how much they counted for the list, so to speak. Diavolo, one of the main characters from the otome/gacha game “Obey Me!” is such an example. The plot of the game focuses on a human main character (the player) getting “zapped” into the Devildom: a section of Hell where all the demons actually live and work and…well…do demon things, so to speak. It's revealed that Hell itself is the resting place of the mysterious and unseen Demon King; despite his title, the actual ruling of the Devildom is handled by his son, Diavolo. Most of the characters in the game have names and ideals inspired by the Devil – for example, Lucifer the Fallen Angel is a separate character who serves as one of Diavolo’s chief associates – but Diavolo is the one who comes the closest in role to the character we all recognize. True, he’s generally much more friendly than the almighty evil we all tend to think of, but the basic idea of a ruler of demons who manages Hell (and the Devildom) is in place. However, since it’s explicitly stated he’s the SON of the King of Demons - which one would argue technically makes him the Son of the Devil, and not the ACTUAL Devil himself -  I’m not entirely sure how well he counts, so he only gets an Honorable Mention.
Tumblr media
3.     Guy Crimson, from That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime.
Much like the previous pick, I wasn’t entirely sure just how much this character really counted, plus he hasn’t actually been around for very long (at least not in the anime for this series), so it feels a little too early to PROPERLY judge him for this countdown’s purposes. However, I really love this character, regardless, so I decided he at least deserved an Honorable Mention. In the universe of “That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime,” a big part of the show is the conflict between the main character – Rimuru Tempest – and a horde of Demon Lords. The leader of all the Demon Lords is Guy Crimson: while he does not live in Hell and seems to have no connection to sinners in general, he definitely has many Devil-like qualities. His motif, as his name suggests, is the color red; he’s the leader of all demons, and one of the most powerful of all (although not THE most powerful; hence part of why I’m unsure of how much he counts). He is a figure with little restraint or shame, indulging in his passions and desires with almost no holding back; even his name, “Guy,” is actually a Japanese onomatopoeia that stands for a scream of fright – very telling. Despite all this, so far, Guy hasn’t actually seemed THAT evil: much like Diavolo, he’s a much friendlier sort of Ruler of Demons than most takes on the Devil…but as he’s made clear throughout his short but important tenure in the show so far, one should never underestimate him.
Tumblr media
4.     Him, from The Powerpuff Girls.
This character actually suffers from a combination of both points I’ve mentioned in the past three options: I’m not actually mega familiar with the Powerpuff Girls (although I will say that what I’ve watched, I have enjoyed), and more importantly, I am not sure how much this character actually qualifies for the countdown. Nevertheless, I would be remiss to ignore him: the mysterious chaotic evil known only as “Him” was one of the Powerpuff Girls’ most nefarious and frequent adversaries, alongside their official arch-nemesis, Mojo Jojo. I’ve seen some episodes featuring both of these villains, and I like each of them a lot, but to be honest I just haven’t seen that much PG in general, so I don’t feel like I’m the best judge. Plus, while Him is definitely given a Devil-like appearance and is implied to be quite possibly the Devil himself in the show (he certainly has many supernatural abilities that would match up), he’s never outright stated to be the Devil in any way, shape, or form. So…yeah. He fits here, but not into the main Top 31.
Tumblr media
5.     Lucia, from Satina.
“Satina” is a webtoon comedy series which, so far, has only had two proper episodes and some random shorts to its name. (Speaking of webtoons, for anyone wondering: no, Lucifer from Helluva Boss/Hazbin Hotel WON’T be anywhere on this countdown, simply because we know absolutely nothing about him yet.) In the lore of the cartoon series, it’s established that there are actually MULTIPLE Devils, who rule different Hells tailored to different cultures. Lucia is the ruler of the American Hell, which is pretty much the typical Hell you would imagine, so to speak. Somehow, she’s married a mortal human, and the two have had a literal hellspawn child: it’s this bizarre family dynamic that leads to majority of the humor in the show. Female Devils are actually somewhat rare, and Lucia is a fun character…but since we haven’t really seen that much of the series so far, I didn’t feel comfortable placing her in the Top 31.
Tumblr media
6.     Malcolm Ray, from The Nostalgia Critic.
Speaking of web shows…ignoring ALL the elephants in the room that can come with this statement (send them back to the zoo, I am NOT addressing all the rubbish they could bring), I’m a big fan of The Nostalgia Critic. The NC is an Internet comedian and reviewer who has been active since the late 2000s, and his series has undergone a lot of changes over the years. In the current format, which has been going on for some time now, the show features a proper cast of regular performers, and various recurring characters who pop up in various episodes. Malcolm Ray is one of those actors, and his portrayal of the Devil is one of those characters. First appearing in the episode devoted to “Son of the Mask,” the Devil has reappeared numerous times in various roles – both minor and major – since. A running gag with this Devil is that he seems to feel people don’t take him seriously enough, and he’s always trying to find ways to prove just how evil and nasty he really is…usually with humorous results, either because his schemes backfire, or they actually work but in an unexpected way. He also has a daughter, who looks and acts like an adorable hyperactive girl, but is secretly just as wicked and dangerous as her father. The apple of Eden apparently doesn’t fall too far from the tree.
Tumblr media
7.     Mark Pellegrino, from Supernatural.
This is one I knew I’d have to include, because “Supernatural” is such a MASSIVE property. It’s one of the most popular TV shows of our time, and there are SO many people who enjoy it. Surprisingly, however, I’ve only seen a few episodes and various scattered clips of the show. I’ve just never properly sat down to get into it. From what I’ve seen of Mark Pellegrino’s Lucifer, he’s definitely a fun villain: he starts off claiming to be a misunderstood character, only for his ultimate and true evil to be shown in full later. I’ve enjoyed what I’ve found of this Devil, but once again, I just don’t know enough about the show or Pellegrino’s portrayal in general to make a proper judgment call. Sorry, Supernatural fans.
Tumblr media
8.     Ryan Reynolds, for Match and Mint Mobile.
Ryan Reynolds…in a costume that resembles Tim Curry’s Devil from “Legend”…getting married to the year 2020 itself…and promoting a cell phone company. (pauses) Do I really need to say why this Devil deserved credit? No? Good. Moving on.
Tumblr media
9.     Spanish Train, by Chris DeBurgh.
Like I said in the rules, along with actual story-based stuff for the Devil, I also decided to include music as an option. And the first piece of music I wanted to cover is here in the Honorable Mentions, with Chris DeBurgh’s song “Spanish Train.” The song is a sort of darkly comedic rock tune, which tells the backstory of a mysterious ghost train. It’s revealed that when the engineer died, the Devil and Jesus Christ played a game of poker to see who would take his soul, and the stakes kept rising until the Devil ended up winning an entire trainload of souls. (Not your best move there, JC.) I love the dark humor of this song, and I also love the style and tone the song takes. It actually plays itself pretty straight, trying to present itself as a dramatic and eerie ghost story, ironically making the humor all the better. It’s a favorite song of mine, and definitely worth mentioning.
Tumblr media
10.  The Gentleman, by Forrest Leo.
This is the only typical book to make it onto the countdown, for the record. Other literature will be referenced in the Top 31, but this is the only proper novel you’ll find being credited. “The Gentleman” is another example of dark comedy. It tells the story of Lionel Savage: a poet in Victorian England who, during a party, apparently accidentally sells his own wife to the Devil. (As you do.) He thus embarks on a steampunk-styled adventure to try and rescue his bride from the clutches of Lucifer. The book is extremely amusing, and one of my favorite elements is the depiction of the Devil, the titular gentleman of the title: rather than being the almighty and terrible ruler of all darkness you would expect, Lucifer is depicted as a mild-mannered, polite, even somewhat shy character, who loves poetry and art and really just wants a friend. He’s…kind of freaking adorable, in fact. In many ways, he's depicted as having a role more akin to Hades from Greek Mythology than the Devil himself: he’s not interested in torturing people or summoning the damned to his evil cause, he’s just…kind of a guy with an unpleasant job, and he’d much rather be doing other things. He’s really very nice. It’s a very entertaining read, on the whole, and the Devil’s bizarrely gentle-hearted depiction in the tale is part of the reason why.
Tomorrow, the countdown officially begins with Number 31! HINT: He’s a real Metal-head.

15 Things About Me
Shout out to @faithinwalls369 for the tag. I'm actually writing the final chapter of my fic this week which I've been really quiet about, and literally none of my mutuals on a discord server know about because I'd never mention something like that, so this will be brand new information to those mutuals.
Anyway, I made the decision to make sure I take breaks from writing it and rambling here seems like a perfect break so buckle in friends.
Are you named after anyone?
My cousin's middle name is Imogen.
When was the last time you cried?
Lol. When I wrote the A/N on the last chapter I posted which was like a day and a half ago. And before that it was earlier that day when I was talking about a sad fic. But I'm PMS-ing so that would be why.
Do you use sarcasm a lot?
Yes, but I wouldn't say it's my main mode of humour. I looked into once because my little research brain needed to know all the types of senses of humour there were. I'd say mine is 'self-enhancing humour'. Which is like self-deprecating humour except I think all my 'negative' qualities are hilarious. .
What’s the first thing you notice about people?
Probably what they're wearing. Not in a judgemental way, but just, I think it tells you a lot about a person.
What’s your eye colour?
Hazel. But I met my husband through a mutual friend and we were at a music festival and for some reason Brown-Eyed Girl was playing and I was like 'I have brown eyes' because I'm amazing at flirting but now he insists I brown eyes even though they are definitely hazel.
Scary movies or happy endings?
Happy endings unless I don't want to sleep for a week straight.
Any special talents?
Convincing myself I have every life-threatening condition that exists. Surviving on an average of four hours of sleep a night. Publishing 215,000 words in ten weeks.
Where were you born?
Australia. In the same city I live in now.
What are your hobbies?
...I wrote 215k words in ten weeks, I don't have time for hobbies. Only hyperfixations.
What sports do you play/have you played?
I've played football (soccer), basketball, dance, swimming and I was terrible at all of them.
Do you have any pets?
Two black cats - Theo and Luna, and a black lab puppy, named Oreo.
How tall are you?
165 cms.
Favourite subject at school?
I only really did the whole schooling thing to socialise and I left when I was sixteen (but ended up going to uni after) I did best in English and Drama. I'm good at non-calculator maths but my brain couldn't cope when we were expected to remember complex formula's. In year 10 (so like 15-16years old) my maths teacher hated me (because I did fuck all) but I was in one of the top classes and he literally said he had no idea how I was in there. But our first exam for the year was non-calculator and I got top of the class and it was one of my proudest moments. I also enjoyed Biology aspect of science and I was good at the Health/Physical development aspect of PE/H/PD (although that was mainly because I was an autodidact when it came to sex-ed). But then, years later I got my Degree in a health care field.
Dream job?
So... when I was eighteen I created a bucketlist and the very top of it was to publish a book... and I didn't care how it was published, I just wanted to be able to write something and have people read it... and guess what? This week I am writing the final chapter for a 200k+ word fic that people have actually read. But I also love my other job that actually makes me money. Honestly right now I feel like I've reached the self-actualisation level of Maslow's hierarchy of needs... so I can only go down from here. And I've leave you on that pleasant note.

Thoughts on the latest ep? Do you think Louise's development showed?
That’s an interesting question! This episode gave Gene and Tina shining moments that I really enjoyed, especially as an older sister and as someone who had that “creative kid is friends with a teacher” experience. The music was phenomenal, and Bob’s has really picked up their setting and animation game from season 12.
The nature of sitcoms means that characters don’t really “develop” in a traditional sense. They’re more fluid for what the story needs, and traits can get shuffled around in order for the episode to make sense. That’s why we can have episodes where Tina has stage fright and others where she doesn’t, and there’s no real rhyme or reason to it. Characters are going to have a few base traits, but everything else has the potential to change.
Which is why I want to talk first about Harley. Harley is a side character, who isn’t going to be around a lot so when she is she needs to make an impression. And she did! She was bubbly, positive, a little manic and so much fun. She recently switched voice actors, which was a good thing I support. I can definitely appreciate that a black voice actor is not being asked to imitate a white voice actor. It seems like they’re not writing Harley as bubbly, positive, or a little manic. I thought maybe it was a one off in the Halloween episode, but this episode solidified that she’s a new character. Honestly, that soured it for me a lot. She’s in my top ten for favorite side characters, but I guess I can always rewatch her hits!
As for Louise’s character, I think it showed Louise, a person who has been somewhat consistently shown despising emotional vulnerability, voluntarily participating in a public display of emotions for no reward. The episode showed Louise having another insecurity plot which brings that up to 5 of the 10 episodes this season (her hand size, her future career, knocking a menu tower over, Tina not wanting to hang out with her, and now this), plus the movie. Louise writing poetry is meant to tug at the heartstrings because of the “awww she really does care” factor. Unfortunately, that factor is something the creators have used to a point where it’s stale for me, personally.
All of this comes together to make the episode feel a lot like award bait, which hurts to even say. But I had watched the newest episode of The Great North right before, and it felt so authentically good and funny instead of a cash grab for my feelings. I’m not sure this direction of Bob’s Burgers is for me. But maybe I’m just being a Negative Nelly. Who knows! Thank you for asking love ❤️

Thanks for answering my ask....
Also, thank you so much for your reviews....Love reading them....Your blog inspire me to watch new anime shows or read new manga series....🤩
If you don't mind me ask (again), can I ask your top 10 favorite anime (can be series or movies) and your top 10 favorite manga? Feel free to pick either one or both of them, also up to you if you want to write your reasons or not of why you love them (I just love reading your reviews)....
Hope you have a wonderful day....
AwW, thank you so much 🧡 knowing that you enjoy my reviews makes me more than happy 🥰 and of course, I am glad to share with you about this!
For my top ten animes and mangas, I can easily do animes but mangas it's a little harder as I need to find the titles in English first xD Also, I can't really make an actual ranking of them, so I will just give you my 10 absolute favorite animes in random order.
Cowboy Bebop: this anime is a masterpiece, there is nothing else I can say about it. As a huge fan of sci-fi, there is no way I wouldn't like such a gem of an anime! The characters are so good, they all have a lot of depth and their personalities are also diverse and interesting. Apart from the genre and the characters, what I like the most about this anime is its ability to make you laugh as well as to make you think. You'll find powerful lines and also absurd situations that will make you laugh a lot. Also, I like the end even though I know it is a controversial matter (and I can't spoil it 😂), but I find this end to be the perfect ending for this series...
Kara no kyoukai: okay so this anime is a one-of-a-kind that shouldn't be missed out in my opinion, but I understand that it isn't mainstream at all. It has all the things I like: a katana fighter, creepiness that is close to horror, dark psychological subjects, and a captivating plot, a good dose of supernatural, and the main character who is totally contrasting with the universe and yet perfectly fitting in. Shiki is one of my favorite anime characters because of her uniqueness, just like the anime itself. Superbly well written, with incredible animation, Kara no kyoukai has this dark lingering aura that attracts me so much with a high-quality story and high-quality characters. The color grading is also so beautiful! This anime is in my opinion, the definition of perfection.
Gintama: Gintama is that anime that can't fit in a single category. It is good in so many aspects that it can't be really summarised in a few lines. Starting with a parody that is just freaking good and unique as I've never seen it in any other anime, it goes as well with the incredibly well-constructed characters and ends with the story itself. If you were to ask me what it is that I like the most in Gintama, I wouldn't be able to answer as I like all those different aspects. Comedy, action, parody, drama... The mix is so good that it is mind-blowing. Still waiting for the end though...
Psychopass : here it's my love for dystopias, politics and sci-fi that speaks up. The fact that this anime is doing something that no other had done before gives it a very interesting side. Dealing with subjects as justice, democracy, technologies and their place in our daily life, it dives into them to the core, taking you alongside the path and I really really like animes that makes you think hard about society and its problems. Mixing thriller with sci-fi and slight peeks of horror, it gives me the chills I am looking for. More complex than your casual mainstream anime, I like how it leads the way through tough matters with an entertaining story. Chills and thrills, I'm all for it !
Promare: Promare is a different kind of liking for as it's completely subjective. I am a huge huge fan of mecha, and Promare is THE anime that gave me this new mecha I needed. Animation made it all, it's just splendid! The story is the kind of simple and classic plot I also like a lot when it's well made and accompanied by such a high-quality animation. I can't not like promare, it is just this kind of anime I will fall for without even thinking about it. The characters are exactly what I'm looking for, crazy action scenes and a crazy mad man with a stupid huge plan... I understand why you can dislike it, but this is just how much I like this anime. I'm sorry xD
Penguin Highway: so first of all, I love penguins. I don't know why, I just love them so much (pengu fans, here I am!) So of course if you tell me there's an anime full of penguins that is going to be released, how can I not like it : D this aspect apart, I love the craziness of this anime. It's so crazy yet so smooth, I like its unique universe, its cute and nice characters, the development of the story... This anime gives me this little craziness and cuteness I need in my life without disappointing me in the plot or universe. I'm a fan!
The boy and the beast: you know that you need sad stories in your life... This anime is the one. Man, it is sad, and yet so beautiful. Its philosophy, its story, and its characters, everything makes my heart ache when watching it. So close to reality yet so far from it, it is in my opinion a gem that only Mamoru Hosoda can deliver. Beautiful fantasy universe with elements out of this world throughout the story, I hadn't even realized I was in front of my screen for such a long time when I finished it! Just a beautiful anime that gives me the emotions I need to handle life!
Evangelion Neon Genesis: so now that you know I love mechas, then you will understand why this anime is in my top ten. Evangelion is the mecha for me. It's not the first one I watched, yet I think it's the one that left the strongest mark on me. What is interesting about it is that I don't like it for the same reasons as promare. What made me rewatch Evangelion so many times is its complex plot and characters. The human interactions and the philosophy that goes with it are what draws me to it and make me come back to it so many times. I also super like the original ending even though it was heavily criticized. I think it all made sense in a way, and I liked how the vibe that was prevailing during the whole story was kept until the end.
Whisper of the heart: one can notice easily the lack of shojo in my top 10 xD it is surely because I am not of fan of this genre as I like romance mixed with another genre more than a full straight-up romance story... Whisper of the heart is without a doubt the exception to it. Feelings are hard to convey and portray, and the way Miyazaki did it in this beautiful heart warming story is so damn beautiful! Even though Chizuru is young, I love the way she is facing life and its difficulties. She's a brave young girl with a will to fight that could stumble the greatest obstacle! this story is just so sweet and so emotional, I like this lightness used to portray life and the beauty beheld in it.
Spirited away: well, having two Miyazaki in my top ten is kinda unoriginal but what can I do! You have to recognize the talent of a genius in a way xD I'm not sure what to say about spirited away though, as it'd be hard for me to explain why I am so drawn to this anime that I watched it I think a hundred times. Everything is to notice. The storyline, the universe, the character... The beauty of the pictures, the remarkable and never enough highlighted uniqueness of this anime, I just love it from the beginning to the end, and I just watch this anime whenever I feel like I need to find a purpose in life again. A masterpiece that words can't even describe. That's what spirited away is for me.

My ranking of Tension by Kylie Minogue
Padam Padam - Padam ? Padam . What else can I say ? Well quite alot actually . What better song to orchestrate Kylie's return to the UK Singles Top Ten , which she hadn't seen since featuring on the Taio Cruz song Higher , which , fun fact , was actually an Aphrodite reject . Padam Padam is my most streamed song on Spotify of all time , and I don't see any other song taking that spot from it any time soon(save for maybe Cherry Bomb). Padam Padam is Kylie at peak club vibes , and is also , in my humble opinion , Kylie's best lead single since Slow back in 2003 . There's a reason its gonna be one of Kylie's most remembered songs . Its iconic , its eternally fresh , and it makes you wanna move onto the club floor and find someone to take home , and have them take off all your clothes . I sincerely hope Kylie works with Ina Wroldsen and LOSTBOY in the future , because God knows they know how to make a song .
Heavenly Body - I struggled with whether to put this at number one or two , but it just couldn't quite beat out Padam Padam . Regardless of that , Heavenly Body is my second fave track of the album for a reason . Its an experience all in itself . Its so 4am , lying in bed after listening to music and reading all night vibes to me . Its so calming , and it's also Kylie at peak club . The production and bass in the song are ever-present , but not in anyway overwhelming . It kinda gives the trance of the 90s , which I love aswell . It also reminds me of Love Affair , which is also one of my favourite Kylie album cuts of all time .
Somebody To Love - A song people seem to be relatively ignoring, and I can't figure out why . Its the album closer on the deluxe edition , and for good reason . It really does give the album a feeling of closure . It feels like a song who's energy is best captured by Kylie in her mid 50s - its a more mature , calm take on love , and I find it so refreshing . I love how Kylie can be like this but also remain sexy at the same time .
You Still Get Me High - To put it simply , this is Kylie slaying at the 80s synthpop trend of the 2020s . The song is super emotional when you listen to it and pay attention to the lyrics , and the demo of it , Moonlight(Can't Say Goodbye) , is even more emotional. The high notes Kylie hits at the end are sooo good too !! I love the visualiser aswell ! It's grown on me an awful lot since Tension released , and I'm not surprised . Its pop perfection , and I will stand by that .
Just Imagine - I CANNOT understand why everyone's sleeping on this track . I cannot . The only criticism I've even seen of the song is that it doesn't go anywhere , but like , so what ? I think it's supposed to have that built-up energy in it , the neverending ball of energy that it is is like the neverending hope that the song represents . Its just. So good . And I will fight anyone and everyone on that .
Tension - Tension is definitely the most experimental track on the album , and I love it . It also marks only the second time ever that a title track of a Kylie album has been made a single , after Golden in 2018(though it would've been the fourth time if Kylie had gotten her way with making Enjoy Yourself and Rhythm of Love singles back in the PWL era) . The music video is chock-full of references too , from references to Kylie herself , to other artists , like Cher and Britney, and even movie references , like Blade Runner and Paris, Texas . It also definitely has the best music video Kylie has done since like , All The Lovers or maybe even Chocolate .
Vegas High - yet another taste of Kylie and the OG clubby feel of Tension , Vegas High is what it says it is - a high . It's continuously grown on me since its release, and I can see why it was my second fave track after the tiktok leaks months earlier. It heavily reminds me of one of my fave-ever Kylie songs , In Your Eyes , and it defo has single potential too !
Things We Do For Love - There's no surprise to why this is like , the fourth most streamed song on the album . Its good . solid . pop . It's Kylie at her best , and infused with 80s synthpop glam . The build-up to the bridge is amazing , and imo should defo be a single !
Drum - Now this is what I thought Tension was originally going to be like ! Clubby bangers , back-to-back ! Of course , Kylie ultimately chose to take it in a more 80s synthpop direction , and of course did so flawlessly . Nevertheless , its fun to Just Imagine what could've been ! I remember hearing Drum months ago , when it leaked alongside Running(which NEEDS to be released , aswell as More Than A Feeling!!!!!!)and I loved it ! I like how its structure is a little different , with the chorus taking a little longer to fully come in . I remember listening to Drum and Padam Padam when I was on holiday in Greece , and I have a vivid memory of dancing with my headphones , alone at 10PM , on a balcony overlooking beautiful scenery , the darkly-tinged yet still visable bay miles below , and the gorgeous town on the beackfront , in the north of Crete . I'll forever cherish that memory because of Drum , and I'm forever grateful .
Green Light - It's a good song , what can I say ? Its calm , cool , chill , and Kylie slays vocally . I love the visualiser too , its so fun ! I don't really have much to say on the song itself , apart from the fact that its a solid track . Oh , and the sax solo in the chorus is immaculate
Story - I find this song really sweet . I can see why Kylie cried while performing it for the first time in London . It would appear to be quite personal to her , and seems to be half an admittance on Kylie's half , of her life and its ups and moreso its downs , and also a love letter to her fans a la Sincerely Yours from Golden , and All The Lovers from Aphrodite .
Hands - This was actually my favourite track when the minute-long tiktok leaks came out a few months back . Although its fallen way down my rankings since , it's really cute as a track , and truly stands out . I love Kylie rapping sooo much (like in Secret (Take You Home)!!) . I wasn't surprised to hear it was originally gonna be on The Barbie Movie soundtrack , it really would've fitted . My only real criticism of the song is that the chorus is wayyy too short , it desperately needs a good long one because with the current version of the track it kinda throws you back into the last chorus before the bridge has even really started:/
Hold On To Now - I do think this track is a little overrated . Then again , I find All The Lovers and Say Something overrated , and the track is quite similar to them , so it's definitely just me lol . It's still a solid track though , and I can see why Kylie would choose it as the third single , even though I'd personally prefer Things We Do For Love or You Still Get Me High . Also the bridge is EUPHORIC!!!!
10 Out Of 10 - I didn't really care for it upon its release way back earlier near the start of the year , but I've started listening to it alot more since the album released ! I used to find Oliver Helden's vocals in the chorus a little grating , but I can vibe with them now . Overall , its a cute little pop number , even if it sounds a little jarring coming directly after the much darker-sounding Vegas High lolz
Love Train - It was originally my least fave but it has definitely grown on me ! Its fun , different , and I love how its like kinda a throwback to Loveboat on Light Years ! Its super camp , and I am glad Kylie put it on the album , even if it seems a little out of place at times .
One More Time - it's the only track that hasn't really grown on me . I find the chorus kinda repetitive . I love Kylies vocals tho , when I'm in a good mood its a fun song to listen to !(Still wouldve scrapped it in a heartbeat if it meant getting Running or More Than A Feeling a proper release though , sorry)

Vamp - the series was a success because of Seb's fans?! Ummm, nope. /
nobody can deny sebs fans are the loudest when it comes to any project he appears on 🤷🏽‍♀️ when the official accounts post anything about him, he gets the most likes out of anyone 🤷🏽‍♀️ there's a reason why the Hulu account is always mentioning Sebastian and not lily or why the fresh account would post the most about Seb and not daisy.. you just can't deny that. again, if it was because of Pamela then why isn't her documentary in the first Netflix spots? the documentary is under the movies category 🤷🏽‍♀️
Anon 2: Pamela's documentary isn't even in any top ten / it’s number two in films now. And yeah she doesn’t say anything new but both her and her sons calling out the show and how it happened without her consent after explaining all the other things happening to her without consent throughout her life still isnt a good look for the show lbr
Anon 3: Pamela's documentary isn't even in any top ten and it came out two days ago, nobody cares// Looking at my Netflix page and she's number one in Canada. Between this and claiming P&T success is due to Seb's fans, I have to wonder what anon is on.
Anon 4: Pam and Tommy was a success because it's a good show. I'm not from US and don't even know who is Pam and Tommy, but I enjoyed the show a lot. And the actors gave really great performances.
Anon 5: "Pam and Tommy aren't even that well known to audiences nowadays, the series was heavily promoted because of the sex tape scandal" Pam and Tommy and the sex tape scandal are irrevocably linked. And the point wasn't that Pam and Tommy/the scandal were well-known to the general public. They were well-known to everyone who controls major media platforms. Seb and Lily nailed the looks and the social media. But the project--not them--drove the Variety and NYT pieces, etc., which set the media hype
Anon 6: What audiences? People in their 20s and 30s? Not sure if that's what you meant, but it feels like it, I guess. Because I'm in my early 40s, and I definitely remember the scandal AND Tommy and Pam's fame prior to the scandal. I feel like the documentary was developed to hit people my age hard, given that we lived through it the first time with one set of eyes, and now we're looking at it again with our MeToo eyes.
Vamp - being the loudest fans on social media doesn't translate to critical or commercial success.
Pam & Tommy was successful due to a myriad of reasons - engaging story, solid direction, great acting, appeal with critics, effective marketing, word of mouth momentum - to name a few.
If Seb's fans could make that kind of impact, all his films would be making bank.
Ruby Woo - what she said!

Could I request fluff #6 with Jack Hughes?
fluff #6. "you've been my best friend for 10 years, why not change it to husband and wife?"
pairing: jack hughes x fem!reader word count: 1.4k
It was always easy to love him. It was easy to love the friendship he initiated all those years ago, and it was even easier to admit your love bore a little deeper when he admitted his feelings were more than friendly about you. A decade long friendship had blossomed into something more, and it was something neither you, nor Jack had any arguments against.
Jack always brought up your ‘friendiversary’, and you couldn’t help but get a laugh out of the pure joy he always bestowed on you every time he mentioned it. The new kid in school accidentally exploding his yogurt tube all over his desk partner was probably one of the funnier ways to begin a lifelong friendship that would eventually blossom into more.
“So, how are we celebrating a whole decade together this year? Should we go get frozen yogurt? Maybe we can make a re-enactment of what happened in middle school? We could make it a whole thing, make a tiktok about it and everything,” you could feel your eyes rolling involuntarily at his words, shooting Jack a glare from across the room.
“We’re not doing anything that involves yogurt.”
“Not even something sexy?” Wigging his eyebrows at you, your hand immediately reached for the pillow beside you to whip at your boyfriend.
“Get your mind out of the gutter, Lil’ Jizzy,” groaning at your words, Jack plopped himself on the couch beside you, instantly pulling you into his side.
Shrugging his shoulders at you, you could see him googling friendiversary ideas out of the corner of your eye. “Babe, we don’t even have to do anything. We could cuddle up and order food and just watch a movie or something, it doesn’t have to be anything special.”
“It’s our ten-year friendiversary, baby. We can’t just do nothing. I’ll figure something out, don’t worry. You’ll love it.”
It would be hard to admit that a trip to Florida in the middle of the season was what you were expecting from Jack. He had practically thrust the tickets into your hand, informing you that you had less than three hours to pack, all while giving you a list of the specific outfits he wanted you to bring.
You knew almost immediately that Jack had definitely not planned the celebration alone, just by the Airbnb that you pulled up in front of. First, you didn’t even realize he knew what an Airbnb was. Second of all, there was no way Jack Hughes had managed to find a place this gorgeous on his own.
Shooting a message to P.K. was your first priority, knowing full well he was the likely culprit behind the gorgeous booking in front of you.
“Okay, so I have a full itinerary. Tonight, we’re just going to chill, relax, get situated, maybe break the house in, you know… the usual stuff,” ending his sentence off with a wink, Jack grabbed your hand and pulled you along behind him.
“Tomorrow we’re going to head out to the marina that I don’t know the exact name of but will figure out and we’re gonna spend most of the day on the water, and then dinner… obviously. Sunday, you have to plan. I’ll pay… but you have to plan.”
Giggling into his ear as you pressed your body closer to his to press a gentle kiss on the nape of his neck, Jack tilted his head to the side with a small grin plastered across his lips.
“Sounds like the perfect weekend, baby. I think we should probably get started on your plans for today.” The grin never left his lips as he whipped around to press them to yours, his body moulding against yours easily.
The next day came quicker than you were expecting, Jack picking out your outfit as you picked his. That was something you both just found easier; there was no one else you would ever let pick your outfit, Jack just… knew you. He knew your style, knew what you did and didn’t like, knew what would fly and what wouldn’t. Small things like that with him were easy, everything was easy when it came to him.
“Well, don’t you look sexy. Damn, I’m so good at picking your fits. Should I quit hockey, maybe get into fashion? You could be my main model, baby.” Laughing as he wrapped you up in his arms with a smile, his happiness infectious.
Shaking your head against his chest, you peaked up at him from between his arms. “I don’t think you should quit your day job, maybe get some pointers before you start making drastic decisions like that. Can’t use you as my future trophy husband if you’re going to up and quit the job that makes you that.”
Pinching your side gently, Jack just smiled as he pulled away and interlocked his fingers with his.
It didn’t take you long to get to the marina in the car he had rented, everyone greeting the both of you politely as they directed you towards the boat Jack had rented for the day. You almost stopped in your tracks when you observed the setup on the boat; a picnic basket set up, non-alcoholic champagne on ice, fairy lights adorning the inside edges of the boat.
“Damn, I didn’t read the fine print when I booked. Just said I wanted the closest setup to an anniversary they could get, guess they went all out,” popping his hip into yours gently with a beam.
“Jack, do you even have your boating license?”
Eyeing the steering wheel with a curious look, you turned towards your boyfriend just in time to see him roll his eyes and glare at you playfully. “No, this place just let a random guy with no boating license rent a boat. Obviously, I have my boating license.”
Rolling your eyes back, you tapped his side as you made your way to the small seat next to the drivers. It only took a few moments to get out from the dock, far enough away that you and Jack could have some privacy without being too far and worrying how you were going to get back.
“Do you remember the first day we met? Other than when I accidentally exploded my yogurt tube all over you? You told me that boys were icky, and all they did was ruin everything,” nodding your head with a loud laugh, you let your mind wander to your first few years with Jack.
“Crazy how things have changed, huh? I remember going home that night and telling my mom I needed to get those stupid yogurt tubes so I could hit them against the desk and do what you did to me, she said no real quick.”
Smiling softly towards you, you could see the love in his eyes the way he looked at you, the softness that crossed his features every time you were on his mind or in his sight. It had been the same look he had given you since you both were fifteen, Jack never having eyes for anyone except you.
Standing up and holding his hand out, you took it and allowed him to pull you from your seat and towards the picnic basket and bottle of champagne.
“It always makes me laugh; I told my mom back when I first moved from Sauga to Michigan that I wasn’t sure how I was going to live without you. She said you’d always be there, even if you weren’t physically there. Pretty sure that was when I realized you were more than just a friend to me, then I moved and wasn’t sure what’d happen. Never really thought we’d get here, honestly.”
Sighing as he sat down, Jack gestured for you to sit in his lap, both of your legs extended out in front of you as he ruffled through the picnic basket beside him.
“I say it a lot, but I’m so glad you sprayed that yogurt all over me. It sucked, but I don’t think we’d be where we are without it,” nodding his head gently as he rested his cheek on the top of your head.
“You know, you’ve been my best friend for ten years, why not just change it to husband and wife?”
Swivelling around to look at him, you almost cried when you saw the little black box in his hand, his eyes glistening at he looked at you. Moving so he was directly on one knee and not sitting, your hands instantly pressed to your mouth.
“I’ve had this thing sitting around since my first season. So, I guess what I’m trying to say here is… I’ve been so grateful for your friendship and your unconditional love these last ten years, so how about we make it forever? Will you marry me?”
You couldn’t contain your body flying towards him, the aggressive nod of your head the only answer he needed.
note: so sorry that this is so late, but i hope you enjoy!! thank you so much for requesting. and yes i did steal mitch marner's proposal idea for this thank u very much simply bc i have reason to believe jack would too

Engie x Reader ~ Built Up Stress (Part 1)
Pt 2
Summary: The stress of a normal day at Tuefort is already hard enough as it is. Lay a streak of lost battles, thrown blame, and a week ceasefire with no Medic on top and it's all down hill from there.
A/n: I wrote this a while back on my wattpad account but decided I should finally post it here. So the writing style's a bit different, just a heads up
You were not a very confrontational person. You hated making anyone upset for really any reason and being yelled at for your own mistakes was probably the worst thing you think could ever happen to you. This is why it was so strange to see you in a place like this. You were surrounded by nine mercenarys, most of which were loud. Very very loud. You could practically hear Soldiers voice from the other side of the building! But thankfully you were never the cause of their screaming.
You weren't a mercenary in any way that the others seemed to interpret the word. Sure you knew how to shoot a gun but that was mostly for self defense purposes. You were actually tasked as a nurse. Usually if someone had an injury that didn't result from a battle, they came to you. It was mostly because The Administor had Medic working on a few experiments and she didn't need him bothering with small injuries every ten minutes. Ceasefire days were always busy days for you. The others just couldn't seem to control themselves around each other, most of them couldn't even be in the same room for more than two minutes! But you digress.
Today just happened to be one of those days but one thousand times worse. There was a ceasefire so that a meeting could be held regarding your team's poor performance lately. You, obviously, weren't told to come to the meeting due to it not really being your job. You had also been informed that the ceasefire would spand over a week just so the team could get their shit together.
Or at least that's what the guys had been telling you.
You suspected it was more so because Medic had found some interesting information out while experimenting and needed to take a trip to go present his findings.
Either way that left you as the only doctor left in the building on a week long ceasefire with more than easily agitated mercenaries.
This was definitely going to be a pain in the ass.
But at least you had Engies workshop to head to when you wanted to decompress. You always enjoyed being in there. It was just loud enough with the sound of clanking metal to drown out all the other men who were constantly screaming while also being quiet enough to help you relax. And thats not to mention that Engie was almost always there.
For some reason the Texan always knew how to bring a smile to your face. His calm and polite demeanor meshed well with your slightly reserved nature. If there was anyone you could count on staying calm it was Engie. Hell you can't even remember seeing the man more than mildly annoyed. He wasn't afriad to stand his ground if he needed to, but he was always eerily calm about it. It was just the type of company you enjoyed having around.
Lately you have been enjoying it just a bit more though...
You found that your heart started to flutter at the sound of his voice and your face heated up when he spoke about you in any positive manner. To put it in simple terms you were falling for him. How could you not? His southern drawl lured you in and there was no resisting those emerald green eyes, even if seeing them was a rarity.
You wouldn't know what to do without him...
Once you had come to that realization you knew you had to confess to him. But you also knew you wouldn't have time with the week long ceasefire. So you made a promise to yourself that the day Medic is back you're going to take him out of the base for a night and find some really cheesy way to ask him out. He always liked those really cheesy romance movies.
You could only hope that he felt the same way you did.
-
Engie felt his blood begin to boil hotter and hotter in the passing months. His team was really starting to piss him off. How was he supposed to be able to do his job if no one was stopping any oncoming enemies long enough for him to build?! And that's not to mention the amount of times his own team had managed to blow up all of his hard work! And he was being blamed for this!? It was complete and utter bullshit!
But at least he could look forward to having you around...
Ever since the first week of you joining he had found that you really liked his workshop. He couldn't blame you, he spent a lot of time in that room just trying to escape the others too. The conversations you both had always brightened his day since you never spoke ill or tried to start fights, unlike the others. If anything you were almost always descalating, something he found rather admirable.
It was when you were silent that he got a more clear picture of your personaily though, which was strange considering he found it to be the other way around with any other person he's met in this line of work. He could tell you were more of an observant type. Sometimes when he saw you around he would just watch you for awhile, anylizing how your eyes traced the room. No matter how chaotic it was you managed to stay calm and quiet while watching, as if studying the different ways each of them functioned. It was rather strange for him to see the same trait in someone else. He was used to being the one waiting for things to turn sideways so that he could fix it, a job that became easier once he had someone else helping him do so. It was great to know there was someone he could relate to in this place.
He didn't think he could actually run this shit show without you.
-
It was day four of the week-long ceasefire and you were beyond exhausted. There had been eleven major fights in the passing days and at least thirty smaller ones. You had seen almost every person in the base make it to the medbay at least once, even Engie! The worst part of it had to be that it was starting to disrupt your sleep! They would come banging on your door in the middle of the night with some injury or another and you would have no choice but to get out of bed to help them. In the past three nights you had gotten a grand total of three hours of sleep so you could barely function at this point.
No one really noticed though.
You were just always so quiet and tucked away that none of them ever really took notice of you. Even when you had to heal their wounds they were always too busy explaining how they had gotten hurt and going on angry rants to pay attention to anything you were feeling.
Today was a particularly hard day for you. You had to put Soldiers hand back on, stop Sniper from bleeding out from a severe knife wound, help Heavy with a black eye and stop Demo from going on a drunken rampage immediately after waking up from a head injury. Now all that alone wouldn't be too bad...
If it weren't for the fact that everyone seemed to just be yelling at you
"MAGGOT! WORK FASTER! I MUST GO CAVE IN MORE SKULLS!"
"I ain't got all bloody day!"
"Leetle nurse must vake up! Heavy needs doktor!"
God it never ended! You were just so exhausted! You needed a break. A break from the yelling, the screaming, the stupid fights and most of all their rants they just seemed to want to burden you with. You needed at least a five minute breather...
And there was really only one place to go where you hopefully wouldn't be found.
You walked down the halls in a slightly hurried pace. The last thing you wanted was to be pulled back to the Medbay for another stupid injury. Luckily you made it to the workshop with no interruptions. You went to open the door only to notice it was locked causing your eyebrows to immideately furrow. Engie never locked the workshop door. It was almost always open for when you were having a stressful day. With confusion and slight concern you gave the door a weak knock.
"Go away! Ah don't want no company rahght now!" Engie yelled with a frusterated tone, distain written in his words. Unknown to you, Engie was tiredly sprawled across the ground, a little more than half drunk with many broken machines next to him.
He didn't really want to talk about it...
Due to the past couple of days you have spent just trying to talk loud enough for everyone to hear, you didn't really want to speak up. So you just simply knocked again, hoping he would get the message.
"What'd ah tell ya! Leave me be!" You let out a sigh and hoped that if he heard it was you he'd let you in.
"Dell..." You finally spoke, your voice tired and quiet. He recognized it but due to his anger clouded mind mixed with a bit of achoal, he just wasn't in the right mindset to fully understand the consequences of what he was about to do.
He angrily stood up from his spot and stomped to the door. He practically slammed it open with you just barely managing to dodge the door in time. You were utterly confused by his actions and the uncommon anger that was implied in them. He soon held a glare on you as his voice raised.
"HOW MANY TIMES AH GOTTA TELL YA TA LEAVE ME ALONE!? FOR Y'ALL TA LEAVE ME ALONE! Y'ALL HAVE DONE NOTHIN BUT BOTHER ME FOR THE PAST COUPLE'A DAYS AND AH'M SICK'A HEARIN IT! AND YOU! YA THINK YA CAN JUST COME IN HERE WHENEVER YA WANT DON'T YA!? DON'T YA HAVE WORK TA DO!? YOU'RE A POOR EXCUSE FOR A NURSE IF AH'VE EVER SEEN ONE! YA'VE DONE NOTHIN BUT RUN AWAY FROM EVERY GODDAMN FAHGHT ONLY TO SHOW UP WHEN IT'S OVER! YOU'RE NOTHIN BUT A COWARD! NOW WHAH DON'T YA JUST RUN OFF AND LEAVE ME THE HELL ALONE!"
A long silence followed as you were left completely stunned. He stood only inches from you, his face burnt red with released rage.
He had snapped...
You coward away from him, truly terrified of the man that stood in front of you. You had never even seen him mad before, let alone this angry. He was practically bursting with pent up fury that was all now directed towards you.
His anger melted away seconds after the outburst and due to it he had sobered up a little. The sudden realization of what he'd just done left him completely and utterly shocked with himself...
He had just let all of his pent up anger, all of his built-up stress and frustration out on you. He knew the severity of what he had just done when he saw your eyes just barely weld with tears that you tried to hide. He took a step back from you as he noticed just how much of a disheveled state you were in. You held heavy bags under your eyes and it was only just occurring to him how tired your voice sounded when you had called his name.
He...
He shouldn't have snapped like that.
You were the last person he should have yelled at. Hell he shouldn't have yelled at you at all! He felt immideate regret take him over as you turned away just in time for tears to fall from your eyes.
"I-I'm...I'm sorry sir, you're right I...I should probably get back to work..." you barely managed to mutter the sentence to him before quickly walking away, not even so much as glancing back at him. He was left completely frozen in his spot.
'...sir?...' The word played in his mind. You hadn't called him that since the first day he'd met you.
Oh he's screwed up...
Oh he's screwed up bad...
After not moving for a moment he slowly backed up into his workshop, closing and locking the doors once again. He grabbed another full carton of beer before slowly heading back to his spot on the floor.
He no longer held rage and bitter hatred but was instead filled with an overwelming amount of regret and self-loathing. He found himself back on the floor as he tried to process his own actions. He couldn't help but want to slam his head against a wall. He couldn't believe he had said those things to you, hell he couldn't believe he ever even thought of yelling at you, let alone screaming in your face!
He had just lost the one thing that was keeping him even slightly sane in this hellhole. You joining the team had been a godsend to him. Talking to you while he worked on his machines was one of his favorite ways to pass the time...but now...now he was sir again, not even Engineer, no, you called him sir.
How in the hell was he going to fix this?
-
You made it to your room, once again without incident which was frankly a miracle. Once there you slammed your door behind you before collapsing onto your bed. You quickly grabbed one of your pillows and burried your face in it in an attempt to muffle the sobbing that you couldn't stop from leaving you. Sure you had been yelled at all week but none of it was really anger towards you. It was always them being frustrated that they couldn't get back to yelling at the others fast enough or because they were in a lot of pain but you had never been yelled at by him and it had never been about you...
Had you really been slacking in your job? You thought you had been working so hard recently, hell you barely slept over it!
You did run away from fights though...
Should you have tried to stop them? What could you have done better? You should have worked harder for everyone! You shouldn't have slacked off so much! You should have been at every fight!
You shouldn't be such a coward...
That word really stung, mostly because it was true. You were even crying just because you were yelled at! You didn't even yell back!
You couldn't have even if you wanted to...
You couldn't believe that he thought of you that way. You felt stupid for thinking the two of you were getting along well, that you had grown feelings for him, that you were going to confess.
Soon enough you managed to cry yourself to sleep. God you were exhausted.
-
"NURSE! WE NEED YER HELP! NOW!" You pulled yourself away from your pillow in a very groggy state. You could feel the tear stains that still covered your face as they stuck to the pillow. You managed to slowly pull yourself out of bed and make it to the door, not feeling a need to rush anything anymore. You opened it to see Demo frantically trying to hold a clear gunshot wound shut.
"What" you calmly replied, though there was a hidden sharpness in your tone. He, as nearly everyone in this base does, ignored your current state. He was in too much pain to notice or even really care.
"The medbay's full! Everyone got in a huge fight!" you sighed, pinching the bridge of your nose.
"Tell me something new" you muttered before pushing past him and speed-walking to the medbay with him following quickly behind. If he was the one that was sent to get you, that meant the others were either in much worse condition or couldn't walk and that means you have your work cut out for you. In a matter of seconds you were in the medbay and saw that every last one of the men were in there...
Even him...
You sighed once again before putting your hands to work.
"MAGGOT! WORK FASTER! WE HAVE THINGS TO DO!"
"Whoy are ya workin on him! I'm bleedin out over here!"
"Forget da piss man! I can't feel my legs!"
"I called yeh down here! Least yeh could do is yer bloddy job!"
The screaming never ended and Engie sat horrified at some of the things his teammates were yelling at you. He saw your stress levels continuing to rise, each threshold surpassed being hidden under a sickly calm exterior. He had already felt bad before but now he just felt like a completely and utter asshole. He seemed to be the only one who noticed the dried tear stains on your face or how droopy your once bright eyes now were.
He began to wonder if you had even slept last night...
You were starting to feel dizzy and lightheaded from the amount of lost energy. You were already physically and mentally drained from the insane amount of work you had been doing and now you were severely emotionally drained due to having lost your largest sense of comfort in this crazy place. You were halfway through stitching up Sniper when you were hit with a strong wave of exhaustion. You stumbled a bit and pulled the tools away, steadying yourself on a nearby bed.
"Now ain't no time ta rest!" Sniper yelled with the others soon joining in. When they got no response they suddenly fell quiet.
"...nurse?..." You collapsed onto the floor. Your lack of sleep and built up stress had finally taken it's toll. Sniper tried to catch you but managed to only grab you with his injured arm, causing him to almost immideatly lose the grip dooming you to fall to the ground. The room fell completely silent...
What were they supposed to do now?
Engie was the first to get up from his spot. Even if he had blood still leaving from a wound on his leg and most likely had a broken rib, he needed to make sure you were alright. He knelt beside you and started looking you over.
"Y/n?! Are ya alright!?" He was checking for some type of injury that might have caused you to so suddenly fall but there didn't seem to be a single scratch on you.
The only thing to blame was the dark circles held under your eyes...
"Are zey 'urt?" Spy spoke up, his tone of concern either genuine or greatly preformed. Engie turned to the team with hatred no longer hidden under his goggles and hardhat.
"No...but they look like they haven't slept in days..." Sudden looks of guilt crossed their faces as they all began sneaking glances at one another.
They all knew they were at fault for disturbing your sleep and the shared expressions didn't go unnoticed by Engie.
"Y'know, ah've been sittin here just listenin ta all of y'alls non-stop yellin...do y'all have somethin against 'em? Cause they've done nothin but trah and help you poor excuses for men and y'all have done nothin but treat them lahke shit" Engie spoke with a sharp tounge, his contempt for their actions being very noticeable. While everyone's looks of guilt grew Spy gave a subtle glare to Engie
"Zats amusing coming from you..." Spy spoke with a knowing tone, catching nearly everyone off guard. Engie returned the glare, though his confusion was still highly noticeable.
"Now just what is that supposed ta mean snake?" His voice lowered to a threatening tone which only earned him a scowling smirk from Spy.
"To quote you 'zeir a coward. A poor excuse for a nurse zat does nozing but run from a fight...' Or were you too drunk to remember zat you said zat?" Spy spoke with a slick and venomous tone, buring his words into Engies head. The others looked to Engie with furrowed eyebrows and questioning stares.
"Now you hold on just a minute-!"
"Do not try and explain it away, you are just as guilty as ze rest of us...and I zink we all owe an apology..." Spy suggested with all around agreeance from everyone. All except for Engie who was rather conflicted as he looked back down at you. He still didn't want to believe he said that to you, he didn't even slightly believe in anything that he had said!
But no matter how much he wished it hadn't happen that wasn't going to fix it...
There was silence for a moment before you started to wake up. Your head pounded, your eyes begged to stay shut and you felt as if your whole body was sore. When you finally pushed your eyes open you noticed that the entire team was staring at you.
Oh no...
You quickly sat up and saw that Engie was beside you, sending waves of dread through you with his worry filled face. You looked around, quickly noticing the almost choking air that filled the room.
"What happened?" You finally broke the tense silence with a weak and wavering voice. The men turned to each other for answers. In the end Spy was the one who spoke up.
"It seems zat you passed out...are you feeling alright nurse?" Spy spoke as if the conversation that had happened while you were passed out hadn't even occurred. As you took in the information your face grew cold. You cursed yourself for being so weak, so unable to just keep it together. Slowly you stood and dusted yourself off with eerily cold movements. The men noticed the new look on your face which they all internally winced at. They had never seen you so...
Gone...
You gave a nod to Spy before turning to the others. Engie and Spy still needed to be treated and you were almost done with Sniper. Realizing that the work was almost over you took a deep breath before speaking.
"Anyone who does not need immideate medical attention must leave the medbay." You spoke to the men with an icey voice that felt strange coming from you. They gave you concerned looks, most being unsure how to approach this situation.
"Nurse...are yeh sure-"
"Now" you cut Demo off with a deadly tone, one you've never used before, at least around any of them. The men had never seen you talk back to someone, especially in such an aggressive manner. Seeing as you were already angry they decided it would probably be best if they left you to calm down. All but three men left the room. Once they were gone you silently got back to working on Sniper. He chose not to speak the entire time, instead giving you a worried glance that you avoided looking at.
You just needed to get this done.
You finished him rather quickly. He was going to finally say something when you pushed him out of the medbay. Next you went to Spy. A dislocated arm and a bullet wound to the shoulder. Easy enough. It would have been much easier if Medic would have left his medigun but there's really no use in complaining about it now. Just as you popped his shoulder back into place he spoke up.
"Nurse...are you alright?" Spy tried asking only to receiving chilling silence. Noticing how upset you were he relized he'd have to try a bit harder than that. Just as you finished stitching up his bullet wound he gently grabbed your shoulder, immidetaly catching your attention.
"I would like to 'elp you, but you must tell me what ze problem is first." he spoke in a calm and caring tone, one rarely seen from the usually mocking man. For a moment you were surprised by the sudden care from the cold backstabber. In the end you remembered that he was a womanizer. He was skilled in using soft touches and twisted words to get the desired result and you weren't falling for it. You harshly pulled away from him, once again showing him a cold and uncaring look.
"The only problem is you assuming you know what's better for me" your tone was harsh which was very effective in shutting him up, seeing as you had never been so agitated before. Spy had a rather clear understanding of why you were acting this way.
Spy felt a tinge of pity for you.
You reached over and grabbed a pill bottle before handing it to him.
"Take one every morning and right before bed until Medic's back. It should help with the pain for the most part." Your voice was detached, so far from the empathetic tone all of them were used to. He only gave a nod before standing and leaving from his spot. He glanced back to Engie who he noticed was staring at you with regret written all over his face.
And to think only moments ago he was calling them all poor excuses for men...
Spy closed the medbay doors behind him, leaving you and Engie to solve your problem in peace. The pit in your stomach swelled as you turned to Engie. You didn't dare look him in the eyes, not wanting to fall victim to whatever stare he was giving you. You eventually did catch a glimpse of it and, even though the look pulled at every last one of your over sympathetic heartstrings, you managed to keep your cold exterior, not wanting to award him the satisfaction in seeing you so broken down over him. You walked over in complete silence, each step harshly echoing off the bloodstained tiles.
Neither of you dared to speak to one another...
You began looking over his wounds and he half-heartedly answered every question you had. Even if silence was most of what was left Engie didn't stop staring at your eyes, anylizing each unfamilar glance you'd give him.
Those eyes stared at him as if he were a stranger
You did your best to avoid eye contact and just get your job done. You knew that you'd normally melt when seeing the rare emerald color and now you were pretty sure that same color would lead you to a complete breakdown.
"Your rib isn't broken but it's definitely bruised. You will need to take some pain medication and-"
"Ah'm sorry" his voice spoke in such a soft tone that it was almost inaudible, even in the silence of the room. You froze, not finishing your previous sentence as your mind debated accepting the apology. You had lived most of your life like that anyway. What's one more accepted lie? What's one more thing to brush over as a mistake just so that you can continue to care for a person...
Yet you felt something else in you break as well. It wasn't just your heart that laid shattered at the actions of the man you loved.
It was your trust too...
You hardly trusted people, often finding that they would stab you in the back at a moment notice. But you had trusted Dell anyway. You trusted him with your heart and he dropped your fragile emotions from a skyscrapper.
With no response you walked over to the medicine cabinet and grabbed another pill bottle. You walked back over to him and stretched your arm out to hand him the bottle, acting as if he had said nothing. That's what those words meant to you now. Absolutely nothing.
"This will be all you need sir. Now if you could please leave the Medbay...I have more work to do..." Your words stung him about as much as a stove top. You didn't look at him, you didn't even acknowledge his words. You simply kept your head turned and waited for him to take the thing you were required to give him.
He hated that you didn't look at him, he hated that you called him sir, he hated that you were so cold.
He reached for the pills but grabbed your hand with it, an action that stopped the beating of the shattered peices remaining in your chest. He pulled you closer to him, causing you to finally look at him with an emotion other than indifference. Before you could speak or push him away he wrapped his arms around you, hoping that by doing so he'd be able to mend what he had done. He didn't want to see you like this, especially because of something he did.
You felt tears weld in your eyes. You wanted this comfort, you wanted to melt into his arms and just break down.
But you couldn't...
He already thought of you as a coward, you didn't want to be a crybaby on top of that. You needed to be more aggressive, work harder and stop leaning on him for support. He had expressed it very clearly...
He wanted you to leave him the hell alone...
So that's what you were going to do. You hesitantly tried to push him away but his firm grip didn't allow it. This was his desperate attempt and his body was incapable of understanding that the person he'd once seen as so kind would be the same person that pushed him away. So you pushed against the part of his chest where the rib was bruised, knowing that was the only way you'd be able to convey the message that you weren't pushing in an attempt to keep up with your new act, but that you were genuinely not accepting his apology. He let go after that. You completely pushed yourself away from him and he felt his entire heart drop.
This wasn't going to be solved that easy...
It took a lot for you to truly trust someone, and once you did you took every single word straight to heart. You had trusted him, loved him even.
And he told you, you weren't good enough...
"...Go..." You told him. Your voice was firm and the look you gave him made him feel sick. He knew it was bad but he didn't think it was that bad.
What had he done
"Wait Y/n please Ah-"
"I SAID GO!" You stood up to him, your voice booming in a way that utterly terrified him. You had never raised your voice before, let alone at him.
He'd ruined all of this...
Not daring to retort he simply lowered his head and walked out of the room, feeling nothing but regret and shame
