just like with ENG Ignis and all his rude lines towards Prompto that weren't in the Japanese script, they gave ENG Ford this one unbelievably bad & ableist line that wasn't in the Japanese version at all...

they also altered a line about JP Ford wanting a loving family, similar to how they replaced JP Ignis' frequent & genuine apologies with jokes

what is with this western stereotype that serious-looking megane characters are automatically assholes? i'm sensing a theme...

hm. the final two being scott and cleo. at some point i need to like, properly write an analysis post about scott and cleo and the ways that they like... so the thing is that even since third life the two of them have always kind of fallen back and leaned on each other. widow's alliance to gaslight gatekeep girlboss to chosen soulmates to technically being on different teams from then on but were they really. to "we can't team up again we're too good" in secret life to "he's kind of like your bdubs" in that same series when cleo just sort of assumed they were on the same side anyway (by the way STILL an insane way to put that etho). to teaming up again this time to being the final two to laughing and having fun until the end until a zombie kills scott (like a zombie helped scott kill ren) until cleo doesn't have to be the one to make the final blow. to the "we always do this we always gravitate to each other".

the thing is that it's not so much that they're soulmates, exactly (it's kind of a defining thing about them that they aren't), or that they're one of those star-crossed pairs the life series keeps producing (they don't shape each other, not really). it's that they're both, in the end, always there. a stable pair, a lighthouse and a ship in a storm. the thing that makes them different from so many duos is that there isn't really conflict, not really; they know the shape of one another. their first alliance will often be someone else; their first alliance is also to each other, no matter what they say.

so of course they laughed as they fought in the end.

it was them. it was never really a fight in the first place.

how people go about interpreting dr bashir I presume? really frustrates me sometimes ngl especially the “jules bashir died” scene.

like that whole scene is about julian revealing the depth of how deeply his augmentations fractured his sense of identity and who he is - which feeds into the themes of the whole episode surrounding how disability and then by extension disabled people are often viewed as a problem to be solved and because of that are often denied the ability to have fulfilling lives because the able bodied people around them don’t believe that they can.

but… idk, when the fandom talks about it there’s always seems to be a push to read a trans allegory into it that I don’t think is really there? I keep mulling over this post in my mind and when I initially reblogged it I didn’t really want to talk about this because the post is about how stories about racism can be hijacked by white people to be made about their own transness and it felt like as a white person, using that post to complain about ableism would be missing the point. but it really helped me articulate in my mind why the trans reading of this episode feels off to me because the same general principle seems to apply and that is taking a story trying to discuss a specific type of marginalisation and putting a trans reading above it because you can relate more to it personally.

“jules bashir died in that hospital because you couldn't live with the shame of having a son who didn't measure up!” this scene is the culmination of julian expressing his pain about what was done to him as a disabled child by his parents due to how they viewed his disability. but often when I see it being discussed, people aren’t really interested in talking about that. instead supplanting it with a trans reading instead which, in my opinion is an allegory that doesn’t even really work when you think about what’s going on in the broader context of the scene.

julian didn’t stop going by jules because he came to the conclusion on his own that the identity didn’t suit him similar to the way a trans person questions or rejects the gender they were assigned at birth, he stopped going by jules because he felt like the identity attached to that name was taken from him because of what his parents did. it’s not julian affirming who he wants to be it’s grieving over who he can’t be and to me at least, it’s honestly kind of harrowing.

and as an aside: when people read transness into a story about parents who change their child’s body and mind at a very young age without consent, which is literally a narrative projected onto trans people by transphobes to justify the curtailing of trans rights, that also doesn’t sit well with me. I think people latch onto this reading because of the idea of “killing a name” but again in the context of the whole episode the trans reading really doesn’t feel appropriate.

I think it’s okay for people to have trans headcanons about julian of course or literally any character they want to really, but I think saying that specific episode codes him as trans isn’t all that great honestly.

I'm just in the top 0.5% of the Mechanisms (36k monthly listeners) with 9.3k minutes

This means that you needed less minutes to be a way higher listener of an artist with 205 times as many listeners.

So there aren't many of us, but I can almost guarantee that not a single one of us is even remotely normal.

Some Soap/Ghost/Love(reader) from the fae au

Ghost isn't one for clubs, even less interested on raves, but watching you have fun is always a treat. Especially when you bring Soap along for the ride. Ghost doesn't have to do anything, just stand as a wall between the two of you and the rest of the party. You slip your hands up under Soap's shirt, grinding your hips with the press of his hands. The bass thumps and the crowd cheers; you press against Soap and kiss him for all he's worth.

It's obscene really, watching you lick into Soap's mouth as you push against his leg, his hands wandering past what's rude, your lips only leaving his to suck hickeys on his neck. Someone bumps into you, and Ghost moves to stand behind you.

Soap takes the opportunity to pick you up. His hands slide over your ass and you hop to wrap your legs around him. You're mouth returns to his, tipping your head when he bounces you. You roll your hips down against him, tighten your legs when his hands squeeze your ass. Heads turn in the crowd, two girls behind you shout and cheer when they notice the scene. Ghost presses against your back, slides his fingers along the hem of your shirt.

"Time for some air love," he hums over the music. You pull back, tip your head against his shoulder as Soap mouths your neck.

"Why? You want a turn?" You grin, it's leaning down to kiss you. Even through the mask he can feel your smile, can feel you lick a wet stripe over his lips.

"Soap's gonna pass out," and there are too many eyes on you, Ghost can only handle so much attention.

"Am nah," Soap yells, tipping his head to pres s his lips along Ghost's jaw, "Maybe we find a dark spot?"

"We can go home," Ghost offers.

"He wants to go home," you interpret.

"It's loud," Soap confirms.

Ghost stares you both down as you smile at him, like you've got him all figured out. You do. "Or you can keep your hands to yourselves." He raises a brow.

"Let's go," Soap spins you toward the exit, not bothering to set you down as Ghost trails after you. You suppose this is one reason to leave a party.
