It's been...a day. The kind of day where it feels like she's walking a knife edge, nerves wound like coiled springs ready and it's unclear whether they're ready to spring or snap until the moment it happens.

It's the stupidest thing that does it. The handle breaking off a mug as she goes to pull it from the cupboard; barely a noise, the mug not moving an inch from its spot in the shelf, staring back at her with the two spots of unglazed ceramic where the handle had once attached. Something inside her winds tighter and tighter and tighter until it-

Breaks.

The noise that escapes her isn't exactly a sob, or a sigh. It's somewhere in between as Char's shoulders slump, handle falling to the floor with a clatter so that she can brace herself on the counter. Fuck. She's been doing so well, hanging on, holding back the looming wave of aching numbness that rears its ugly head, but it feels like the dam is breaking.

She isn't sure how long she stands there - seconds, minutes, hours - before Noir arrives; or had he been there all along? Even on her best days she can never be sure when he's lurking unseen if he doesn't want her to, and this is certainly not her best day. Char turns and scrubs a hand over her face, expression already trying to pull into a smile, a lie, but she barely has the chance to open her mouth in greeting before strong arms wrap around her. Holding tight. One gloved hand pressed gently to the back of her head.

This time it's a sob, just one as she presses her face into Noir's chest - not exactly the most comfortable with the solid chest plates of his suit digging against her cheek, but she doesn't care. When was the last time someone hugged her? Instinctively her arms wrap around him in return, fingers curled in on themselves where they rest at his back. She just...breathes.
