You know, Marvel had less of the teen sidekick trope than DC. I think. Bucky Barnes, the original Human Torch's sidekick Toro and Rick Jones. I think that's it for teen sidekicks. I mean, we had some teen heroes (spiderman and the o5 X-Men). But only three teen sidekicks.

But then we look at DC and we have enough teen sidekicks for me to think we need to call child protective services on all these child soldiers. Just going by wikipedia, we've got Robin, Aqualad, Kid Flash, Speedy, Snapper Carr, Green Lantern's rascist Inuit/"Eskimo" friend Pieface, etc. Seriously. Do I have to call social services to report 15 child soldiers in the greater united states!? This is bordering on the surreal. At least Marvel didn't do the child soldier thing nearly as often! Maybe Stan Lee just understood it was a bit weird. I don't know. But I'm glad Marvel had less child sidekicks.

So, I'm re-watching Titans 2x08 for a fic research and I just realized something.

There's a direct parallel between Garth and Jericho.

Both took a killing strike made by Deathstroke on themselves.

Strikes that weren't meant for them.

Both did it to protect someone they trusted.

So...

To say that Dick killed Jericho is like saying that Donna killed Garth.

You see what I'm seeing?? Yet ANOTHER example of the hypocrisy of the OG Titans.

Alright. I just finished season 2 of young justice and I’m gonna talk about it. For those who have no clue what I’m talking about, it’s a cartoon on HBO Max about the DC superhereos “sidekicks”. I recommend it if there’s anyone who likes superhero stuff and cartoons. It’s amazing.

*Spoilers for season 1 and 2 of young justice ahead*

Okay, at first I was a bit jarred by the five year time jump. But I really started to love the new characters. Blue Beetle and Impulse are my entire life now and I would do anything for them. I was very pleased to find that I wasn’t the only one who shipped them. Really loved Wondergirl too. She was sure trying her best and I respect that as a fellow klutz. Beastboy was great too. Loved the brother-sister relationship between him and Miss Martian. Adorable. I could really live without La’gaan. He’s just irritating. Sorry if there are any La’gaan stans but I really don’t like him. Also, I ship Connor and Megan and La’gaan is taking that away from me.

One small issue I had with this season is the amount of subplots going on at the same time. We had the whole ‘Impulse is scared of Blue Beetle taking over the world’ and then ‘Aqualad is a spy’ and then ‘Reach nonsense’ and plenty more and sometimes I feel like they jumped between plots pretty quickly. They would introduce a conflict in one episode and then focus on a different one completely the next episode. Pretty much everything was wrapped up at the end though so I can’t complain too much. That’s just a small critique I had.

I love how much Connor has grown! My baby is so mature now! And the fact that Wolf is an actual part of the team! I love that. Connor is a legend and I can’t help but stan. Also I have mad respect for Kaldur. What an absolute legend. My man has the love of his life die and finds out his real father is manta and STILL decides to do the right thing. He’s amazing. Not to mention he just immediately forgives Megan for frying his brain and risking him and Artemis almost losing their cover? He’s too good for us. Also some respect to be shown for Dick who has to put up with the team’s shit all the time. He’s gets the break he deserves <3

Alright there’s no way they just killed off my favorite boy KF there in the LAST EPISODE. You CANNOT do that to me. He’s gotta come back. The scarab said that he would “Cease” and he didn’t seem to actually die? He just kinda vanished? So maybe there’s some kind of a loop hole there. I think I saw some kind of post saying that the speed force doesn’t exist in this universe? Correct me if I’m wrong please but I don’t think it has to do with him and the speed force. But yeah there’s no way that Wally is actually dead. It’s just occurred to me that I could be in denial but I will deny that. I don’t think they faked his death like they did with Artemis but I don’t think he’s dead and we better get him back in season 3.

In season 3 I hope we get more info on Kidflash cus there’s NO WAY he’s dead. I’m pretty sure we get more info on Jaime’s family which is nice. Hope we get to see little Lian grow up. She’s adorable and I hope Jade and Roy(the clone) are the good parents she deserves. Jade seems great but I’m a bit worried about Roy. I hope we get to see what Arsenal’s up to and the rest of the Meta-Human team. Asami is adorable and she deserves the best. Also Tye deserves better! Tye better get all of the love and happiness he deserves in season 3 or I will commit a crime(for legal reasons this is a joke). And I’m definitely not just saying this because I relate way too much to his character haha... :(. And I know bluepulse isn’t canon but we better at least get more friendship content that I can misinterpret as relationship content. Also petition for Vandal Savage and G. Gordon to stfu. No one likes you :(

Those are my jumbled thoughts after finishing season 2. Please don’t spoil season 3. It’ll probably be a little while until I finish it because I’m watching it with my dad and he doesn’t like binging entire seasons on shows in one night and I’m not going to be living with him most of the time as of this week. But I’m really looking forward to watching it and I love this show more than anything. I’m very excited to be able to look at Young Justice content without worrying about accidentally spoiling it for myself :(

anything specific? no? okay let’s just talk about the teams that i’ve created.

The Teen Titans: Damian Wayne (Nightlark ii), Jon Kent (Superboy i), Maya Ducard (Nobody ii), Kathy Branden(Beacon), and Colin Wilkes (Abuse).

Aka, the dream team for any Damian stans, methinks. Tbh i don’t know all that much about anyone besides damian and jon, because i’ve only read the supersons comics for them, but i’m going to be doing what i can to learn about the others and write them accurately. But yeah, this is the team for when they’re like, ages 13-18. once they get older they’re still allies and friends, but they’re no longer a coherent team, much less teenagers lol.

The Gotham Trio: Duke Thomas (Signal), Cullen Row (Catlad), Carrie Kelley (Wildfire).

This trio is godtier. i feel like they would get up to so much chaos... 🤌🤌 good shit. i need to read up on all three of them, but i’m really excited for where this will go. (PS one of Carrie’s possible identities before i settled on Wildfire was Wyldstyle... like the lego movie character... we decided that if that were the case then the lego movie exists in universe and she just decided to name herself after the character. we stan.)

The Outlaws: Tim Drake (Red Hood), Kon-El Kent (Supernova), Bart Allen (Impulse), Slobo.

Okay wow. so i’m sorry i didn’t include other members of yj98 in this, but i just didn’t see them being able to pull off the same morally grey type shit these guys are doing. like kon, i feel, would at the very least understand what tim was going through, and want to help his best friend through it, and would also be pissed at bruce for treating him like this. plus he has all these unresolved daddy issues towards superman... yikes. can someone say “teen angst”. and then bart is just straddling the line between good and bad to begin with— he grew up with no consequences, he literally grew up in a video game. so how he turned out is pure circumstance... there’s this one panel i can think of where he’s got his fist up to a guys chest and has an excited look as he asks “can i vibrate it through?” before tim says no. so yeah, if his friends are gonna be doing this shit where they’re taking down bad guys more directly, then he’s down for it. i don’t think i have to say anything about slobo. but also, since tim is gonna be coming nearly fresh outta the league of assassins, he’s gonna have allies in the form of Z, Owens, and Pru. so they’re gonna team up occasionally. have i mentioned the C H A O S this would cause? like, especially between Slobo and Pru. this is a team up that both needs to happen, and should be prevented from happening purely for the sake of the world.

Young Justice: Jason Todd (Bluejay), Cass Wayne (Batgirl), Koriand’r (Starfire), Roy Harper (Red Arrow), Cassie Sandsmark (Wonder Girl i), Garth (Aqualad i).

So the only character of these I’m not all-too familiar with is Garth, but I’m gonna be doing some researching/comics-reading. As for the rest of them... I know some of these were unusual choices. Cassie should be with Tim! Yes but Tim is a lot different in this au, and so is his team. I just don’t see her being able to pull that off— also i just wanted interactions between the two Cassandras. 🤷‍♂️ Also: Steph is a frequent ally to this team, as she and Cass share the mantle of Batgirl. she acts as a kind of team mom at times, which should be interesting to write lol.

Young Titans: Dick Grayson (Robin), Wally West (Kid Flash ii), Donna Troy (Wonder Girl ii), Kaldur’ahm/Jackson Hyde (Aqualad ii), Garfield Logan (Beast Boy).

Okay so I know that this is mostly a Titans line up, but i just love Kaldur from the show so much, and I couldn’t have two Aqualads on one team. So. That’s why Garth is with Jason. I might change it later, but this is what’s happening for now.

SO1 E8 - Downtime

These are my notes from this episode!!

First, it is so cute how Kaldur'ahm lets this little squid dude put himself in the mural of Kaldur and Aquaman without hesitation although it could just be bc Kaldur’s thoughts are preoccupied and he doesn’t want to continue talking much.

idk but imagine your this little squid dude (who obviously looks up to Kaldur) working on this mural really hard bc you have a deadline to meet and your family is relying on you to get that bread and then Kaldur himself swims up to you out of nowhere! He seems distracted by other thoughts but he’s looking at your handiwork so you may as well reenact the entire story your art is depicting. Even tho you then try to restrain yourself, you can’t help it, so you blurt out if he would be okay with putting yourself in the mural and he says yes!! i mean talk about this lil dude’s dream come true! its so wholesome

Second, supposedly Dick is only 13 in season one so i am honestly so confused how he is able to punch a solid wall like so and walk away unharmed. Like okay Dick, easy on the enhanced protein shakes we know u had Kid Flash make for u. (i refuse to believe that Dick would be this strong at just 13, even if he was adopted by batman, and i also refuse to believe he would take like steroids or something)

And then batman proves once more that he is truly the best bat dad out there after seeing Dick was mad that Aqualad got a one on one convo and not him. ofc batman only knew Dick was mad at him bc batman was monitoring Dick on his own security cameras in their house which is a lil sketch?? But im willing to overlook that bc he made Dick so happy and WOULD YA LOOK AT ALFRED UGH THEY’RE SO WHOLESOME

Third, I may be the only one but I genuinely don’t get this scene at all?? Like Superboy was watching static on the tv and was totally fine with it?? M’gann then asked if he would like to help with dinner and he said no but got up to help anyway?? was he trying to make a joke? he said it with a straight face? it sounded mean? but M’gann smiled at him? like i am honestly so confused by this. Then M’gann accidentally drops all the ingredients on him and they come dangerously close to kissing but they never do? or at least it never shows if they did? but they weren’t smiling or even blushing so i dont think they did? There is defiantly tons of sexual tension there though. Then Superboy goes back to watching the static screen? And Red Tornado comes in bc he (im guessing here) sensed a possible spike in Superboy’s normally emo emotions and was alarmed? but ofc Superboy is just watching static on the tv, covered in milk and eggs completely unfazed and M’gann is calm and collected so Red Tornado is like “ope welp, maybe my sensors are off” and then he just leaves?? like the writers rlly did Superboy dirty there

Finally, I wouldnt be able to make a post about this episode with out mentioning Queen Mera who was PREGNANT but still STOOD HER GROUND and whipped out an ENTIRE MF OCTOPUS to protect everyone else who had been KNOCKED TO THE GROUND like ??!! WE STAN HER

Lynn Small aka Selkie. Gothamite. Half Atleantean. Hates their dad. Goth. Eventually a sorcerer. Bad at coping.

Quatashia McFadden aka Lady Iris. Wonder Woman stan. Her mom is the goddess Iris. Would be offended by the pjo books. Retires from being a hero very early in life.

Jivika Chabra aka Kali. Her bio mother is lady shiva who donated her egg for a gay assassin couple to use with a surrogate. Yeah it's a long story. Also jivika isnt happy that they wanted her to be an assassin later in life. But like she only finds that out when they're both dead? They weren't planning on actually training her till she was 18 anyway. At least she can yell at their ghosts. Would kin Danny Phantom. She ends up dating Emiko Queen while in college!

Now my dickroy kiddos

Valerie Harper-Grayson. Adopted when she was three. Part Atleantean. Damian is her favorite Uncle bc he is almost always up for taking her to the aquarium. Then again Damian is basically all the Harper-Grayson kiddos fav Uncle. She never gets into the whole vigilante/hero business.

John Bo Harper-Grayson. Yeah John Bo is his whole first name. He goes by Bo. Hes biologically Roy and dicks kid. He'll eventually become Nightwing but he stays out of vigilante stuff till hes about 19.

Dylras Harper-Grayson. He was adopted as a baby from New Tamaran! He was rescued from uhh human/alien traffickers. He becomes Flamebird to Bo's Nightwing.

So now Bo's best friend: Jordan Lance-Queen! Haldinahollie's kid.

Jordan is biologically Hal's and a surrogate. They literally tried to find a surrogate that looked like Dinah. Jordan ends up being nonbinary so luckily they already had a gender neutral name. They'll eventually become Green Arrow! Their main goal in life is to make Bo suffer.

And then there are the Kent-Waynes and Allen-Waynes. Timkonbart kiddos.

Logan Kent-Wayne is tim and kons kid. Hes a really sweet kid though I havent wrote him as well him yet since I've mainly written him in a time period where he hasn't come out yet. He literally named himself after an actor cough garfield logan cough from a science fiction show he liked but then he found out said actor is friends with his uncle dick and he will never admit this.

Then there are the actually older than Logan twins. Except their clones. Made by lex luthor with DNA from kon and tim, Clark and Bruce Kent-Wayne use to be known as Alexander and Alexa Legacy. Maybe they were a little evil but they changed. They wanted to choose new names for their new lifes and asked tim, bart, and kon about names. Bruce's gender identity came out when he choose the name Bruce. Bruce and Robbie Troy end up dating (for a second time, first time being back when b was a little evil) and doing humanitarian work around the globe while also being heroes. Clark ends up going to Metropolis University to study elementary education!

And then there are tim and bart's pair of twins Meloni and Dana Allen-Wayne. I've only written them as babies so far so I havent given them much thought

Oh that reminds me Thad Allen (used to be Thawne but I feel like thad would change it) has an adopted son who he named Max

Now these two aren't kiddos but: Ezra and Amber Kane, Bette Kanes parents. Ezra is the youngest kid of whatever the fuck martha and Jacob's parents names were. He was a bit of a surprise considering his parents were pretty old when he was born so hes like 20 years younger than his closest sibling in age jacob. Hes also only like 8 years older than bruce and doted on his nephew as much as he could and hes the inspiration of the whole brucue wayne playboy act despite him not being a playboy at all but anyway. Hes also a pro tennis player. Amber Kane is his wife and best friend. She once dated Janet Drake. She had a shitty life and despite being an actress her childhood is still mainly secret. A few vague details are known but not specific not that it matters anyway. Her parents died when she was young and was taken in by some not so good people who got away with it bc they had money. Ezra and Amber spend any minute they can with Bette bc they love her and she is the light of their lives (well besides each other).

Then there's Faith, Bane, and Soledad Kerzner. Scandal, Kay, and Liana's kids. Faith and Bane are biologically Lianas with Thomas Blake as the sperm donor. Soledad was adopted when she was two . Faith... is a bit rebellious and gets caught up in some shit she really shouldn't have. Bane and Soledad are two characters I havent really explored yet but anyway they all love their three moms.

Viola and Robin Thomas are Duke Thomas and Jackson hyde's adopted kids. Viola is Martian which is really difficult considering her abilities. Shes a sweet kid though and really likes to help her dads! Robin is an Atleantean baby Jackson saved and brought home and it was kinda like that icarly meme (duke: jackson what do you have there? Jackson, holding robin and a smoothie: a smoothie) but like more dramatic bc Jackson was injured and had only come home because it was close and he really needed to actually go to a hospital anyway yay. Viola will become the signal and robin will become aqualad on day

Oh and there's Lilith "Lili" Bloomberg. Shes rose Wilson and eddie Bloomberg's daughter. She likes to watch blue devil. Shes really sensitive. Rose and eddie never got married to each other but Rose and Mia dearden married when Lilith was sorta young and eddie was married to jason todd for a little while before they got divorced and later he enters a relationship with zach zatara but I havent decided if that will last or not. Lilith is really close with tommy Blake bc hes kind of like an older brother to her

And then there's mystery girl wilson... I have yet to name her but shes a character I'm working on but her dad is slade

And that's it for now. There's more but I dont feel like going into then right now. But there more like Jason Todd's group of adopted kiddos and some others but I feel like this answer is getting way too long

17: You can make your own team, 6 members, who is on it?

Subjectively, if I were just picking my favorite characters, it would probably be: Kaldur, Tigress, Rocket, Static, Red Arrow and Nightwing...

Objectively though, if I were trying to build the most effective team possible?

1. Miss Martian: The Team needs a telepath and M’gann’s the best in the game. On top of that, she has a truly remarkable and versatile power set. Shape-shifting, density shifting, camouflage, telepathy, telekinesis. Low-key, she’s one of the most powerful people on the Team. I’d rather have her on my side in a fight than Superboy tbh.

2. Halo: Another hero with an amazing power set. Even without the holograms and force fields and healing, she can come back from the dead! It was gruesome, over the top and sometimes racist on the show but in theory, it’s really cool. Also she has the Anti-Life Equation or is the key or...the show lost me a little during that part but I’m sure it’s important, whatever the hell it is. Halo also just really wants to help people so that’s great.

3. Blue Beetle: Again, incredibly versatile and effective. The Team needs a bruiser or two and he fits the bill alongside Miss M if she really gets into it. BB can bench-press Mongul. Remember that scene when he beat the shit out of the entire Team during Invasion? It was perfection. Jaime is a first-round draft pick, no question.

4. Robin (Tim Drake): Every team needs a bat-brat. I don’t know what Bruce is feeding them but they’re all super-effective ninja-soldiers. That’s the only reason everybody puts up with Batman and Nightwing’s bullshit, because they’re that good. Tim is probably the most mellow of them, perfectly willing to just be a good team player and tech-guy for everyone.

5. Zatanna: We need a magic guy to make sure all our bases are covered here. I don’t really stan her like that and don’t have that much to say but she more than holds her own in every fight and has bailed the team and League out time and time again. Speaking of magic though...

6. Aqualad/Aquaman: Every team needs a leader and Kaldur’ahm of Shayeris is, for my money, the best possible option. I could write an essay on it, I really could. He’s led the Team, the League, his father’s Manta-Troopers and even Queen Bee’s Onslaught (Icicle, Tommy Terror,etc.) to victory. Remember in Summit when Vandal Savage is ranting about how annoyingly epic Aqualad is? Kaldur’s the embodiment of that Michael Jordan pic with all of his championship rings.

He also has an incredible understanding of people for a guy who’s not telepathic. In Drop-Zone, Kaldur is able to explain clearly and thoughtfully where the Team is going wrong and what they need in a leader. In Disordered , he lays out all of his teammates shortcomings without a drop of malice or ego. He knows when Superboy needs social graces explained to him, when he has to explain to the group why Wally’s such a dumbass about magic, when Artemis just needs a break... Let me be clear: If it weren’t for Kaldur’s leadership, the Team would have been dead in the water (pun intended) back in S1 several times over.

So yeah, that’s my team I guess! I like them, together they could probably take on everybody. Coming to you in S4, Young Justice: Don’t Start None, Won’t Be None.
