It’s a good story if I do say so myself. And if you read it, you’re a cool kid. Don’t you want to be a cool kid? This is something called peer pressure, and it usually works.

But for real, if you read Nobody Ends Up Dead then you’re going to go on a good adventure with good characters I guarantee you will love. Not to brag, but it is a pretty good story. There’s funny one-liners, a cute plot, and relatable characters that have been developed for years. Just heed warnings at the beginning of chapters. NEUD deals with some heavy topics such as eating disorders.

The Story is Dope

A New York office worker and a sex worker get set up on a date--one thinking it's a real blind date, the other under the impression it's an ordinary appointment. After realizing it was all a shitty prank, they set out for revenge. Their plan: show up to an upcoming Halloween office party as a genuine couple, convincing the pranksters they genuinely fell in love and refusing to let themselves become the butt of the joke.

Our main characters are Alex, an awkward admin assistant for a medical company who hasn't been on a date since he was a teenager, and Damián, a sex worker who seems way out of Alex's league but keeps insisting on spending time with him so they can perfect their revenge scheme.

The novel features a diverse cast and explores sex positivity. I also like to believe that it portrays sex work well. Damián is a hardworking man, doing what he loves, and meeting mostly great people along the way--but he also would benefit greatly if sex work was decriminalized and therefore had better resources at his disposal.

If you're looking for a story with LGBT characters that's mostly light-hearted but still packs a punch every few chapters, this is it! Overall, it's a happy story.

The Characters!

we got Damián who's hardworking and doting on his lil bro but oh wow does he have some angst

we got Alex who is nothing more than a burning ball of anxiety trying his best--all too relatable

Leo, Damián's bro, is an ally, and he will make sure everyone knows. Also has angst.

Eve, Alex's lil sister, is an edgy teen who's failing calc and runs a queer book club

together, they're a weird lil dysfunctional family

I'll be honest. There's a lot of love in this story. From me and among the characters. The characters love each other, and I think the readers love them, too.

It touches on a lot of loneliness--inspired by how I've felt since Covid started--and a lot of the conflicting emotions that come with being gay. What happy endings do we deserve? What about happy middles?

It's a touching book about learning to be a better person and finding people who love you--platonically and romantically.

Here are some of my fave parts:

And then there was a streak of gray hair that shocked Alex. A streak of gray hair off to the side, nestled close to a salt and pepper beard. Textured hands held cocktails. Little, subtle lines creased when mouths laughed. Alex held his breath. On the packed floor, they were the only people Alex could see. They were laughing and holding each other and enjoying themselves, firmly in the place they knew they belonged. Flashes of teeth pressed against each other, disappearing for long seconds at a time.

“Sorry,” Alex said. “Your arm got heavy on top of me.” “You’re a little mouse of a man. I didn’t mean to crush you.” “I’m what?”

“A dog!” Damián cooed as he sat across from the lesbians. “His name is Yam,” Martin said.

“His name is Yam,” Damián cried. Kris and Clara released Yam and gently nudged him to Damián. Ecstatic, Damián picked him up and set him on his lap. “His name is Yam,” he repeated to Alex. “I heard.”

Restoring the Roots (Joel Miller x Therapist! reader) Chapter 3 Preview

Chapter 1 | Chapter 2

A little sneak peak of chapter 3, basically a whole lotta reader thirsting over our grumpy old man :) As always, thank you for your support and interest with this little story of mine.

Understanding the nature of the situation, and Joel’s obvious discomfort in seeking out help, you tried to make the consultation as stress free as possible, allowing him to speak first and share his thoughts about therapy. He wasn’t as hostile or cold as you anticipated, rather he shared that sense of being lost and displaced, much like your other clients who were struggling. His southern charm supplemented that as well, with his politeness overshadowing his contention towards therapy. For a second you thought he was going to disintegrate on the spot when he realized he had cursed in front of you and apologized profusely. It was charming as hell and really fucking endearing.

You tried your best to sympathize with his concerns him and validate his feelings, but fuck it was hard to concentrate. You couldn’t stop focusing on how much room he took up on the seemingly large sofa. His broad shoulders were still concealed by his coat but you didn’t miss how he sat with his legs spread open, easily dwarfing the couch that could normally seat three people. He also spoke with his hands, you noticed. A lot. You surmised it was the nerves, but again, you could get pretty animated with your hands when talking about something that excited you. You bit the inside of your cheek as you struggled to maintain his gaze and ignore how large they were, calloused from hard labour, how thick and long his fingers were. 

By some miracle you managed to make it through the entire conversation without gawking incessantly and fumbling your words, even when it felt like your brain was functioning faster than your mouth. Your passion getting the better of you.

Despite what Tommy told you, Joel was sweet, albeit reserved, but that wasn’t very different from other first time clients you met. You appreciated his honesty and apprehension. His perception of therapy didn’t surprise you in the least, If you were being honest. It only made you more excited at the prospect of working with him, and showing him the power of equine assisted therapy. He did seem to light up when you mentioned how the therapy worked and the interactions with the horses. You took that as a good sign. If he was already an animal lover it would make the transition to working with horses in a close proximity much easier. While equine therapy was indeed effective, it was a much longer process when your clients were not used to working with horses or were downright terrified of them.

For a moment, the ringing paused, and the vines slowed in their movements. “I am not dead,” said the voice that wasn’t his own. “You did not kill me. Even like this, you cannot tame me. Raise me, and I will live again.”

Many of these icons in the beginning might seem like they are multiple of the same image at different sizes: this is because I was personally prioritizing making as many icons of her initial dress and with a sword as possible, as well as close-ups of the face. It goes like this until around icon 508, as I don’t care that much about having a lot of icons of her school uniform specifically.

I’m glad to see that you aren’t letting those trolls/haters affect you too much. Has this experience change the way you see the kakasaku fandom or how you feel about the ship? How is it different from sasusaku fandom?

There’s a preview out for Sasuke retsuden episode that you can look at but it’s horrible. The ugly art style you are talking is the one we are getting. Moreover the script writer is the one that hates sakura so he’s gonna add stupid lines that make sakura looks bad again. It’s hopeless already for me so I’m gonna pretend like there’s no anime adaption.

It doesn't affect me as much as it would've had I been a younger, newer writer. But with 10 years under my belt, I'm sad to say I've experienced worse and seen other fanfic writers go through worse as well. I will say though that everyone has their limits, and when a writer gets constant hate and harassment over something they're providing for FREE, they will eventually quit altogether.

Sending hate to a fanfic writer because they're going on break and/or because they didn't write a full sex scene in the 1st of the 4 acts of the story serves to accomplish nothing but motivate the writer to abandon the fic for good.

Want a sex scene? Don't nag the writer for it because all the constant nagging turns us off from wanting to write it anymore. Want the writer to return to the fic sooner? Don't bitch at the writer for taking a break because it makes them want to NEVER return to the fic at all.

And then you get no sex scene as well as a huge cliffhanger forever.

Which is possibly what the haters want?? Otherwise, why would anyone think that bitching at the writer will magically make the writer want to submit to such demands at their own expense? It is so illogical and stupidly counterproductive.

Thus, many fanfics are abandoned and even deleted.

And honestly if it does reach that point, I will abandon and delete TAOL if I have to. I've been forced to do it before, and not just for my sanity but also for my safety. I've since come to understand my boundaries and enforce them when needed.

However, I don't like judging a whole group just because of the behavior of the few, so I don't think it'd be fair of me to look at the KakaSaku fandom or ship in a different light. Besides, every single corner of every single fandom always has some toxic people; that's unavoidable.

In comparison to my experience with writing for the SasuSaku fandom though, my SasuSaku readers are more chill for me if I have to be completely honest. I never had any rude comments when I was working on my SasuSaku fics or got harassed for going on break. All my SasuSaku readers have always been kind and supportive. Not once did I ever get a reader complaining that they have so many questions about the plot's mystery - and there is SO much mystery in When the Flowers Cry than in TAOL. When the Flowers Cry is so much more fun to write because readers just post their theories instead of demanding me to hurry and give them the answers to the plot or hurry up and write sex already.

And whenever I go on break for TAOL, there's always a handful of readers who get pissed at me regardless if my absence is due to surgery or a medical emergency - they get pissed at me no matter what. Meanwhile, I have been on break from both When the Flowers Cry and Cut Me Down but I'll Still Rise for ~2 years now and not one SasuSaku reader has sent hate my way. Not a single one.

So even though I don't look at either fandom groups in a different light, I will say my experience in writing SasuSaku fics and writing KakaSaku fics are so startlingly different from each other that you can probably guess which of the 2 audiences I enjoy writing for more.

As for that damn script writer for the Retsuden anime... I guess that was inevitable too. Still, it maddens me to hear that news. I did watch clips of the anime but it just does not do the novel justice. Years of waiting for the anime to treat Sakura right and I just keep waiting like a fool.

I'll just follow your example and pretend the anime doesn't exist either lol.

I am enjoying the manga but I do feel like the rubble scene with Sakura could have been executed better. I would've liked an extra panel or two depicting Sasuke desperately lifting the rocks to get to Sakura and his hand worn out from digging but maybe I'm just being picky!

Fjorn Returns

I've been wandering for a while, so I should probably reintroduce myself. If you're only here for pretty pictures, you can skip this post; but if you want to know more about me and what I'll be posting now that I'm back to this burrow, read on:

For starters, I joined Tumblr back in 2015 (though I started this particular blog in 2017). I go by Fjorn, but I'm (probably) better known as @fjorn-the-skald on Tumblr still. My priorities have shifted (a lot happened...), so I've 'retired' from academia. A part of me mourns that, but I still think my current course in life is for the best. Feel free to send an ask if you want to know more about why I stepped away from that path.

Even if I'm not an active academic anymore, though, you can still read my Master's thesis here: Weaponizing Ordinary Objects: Women, Masculine Performance, and the Anxieties of Men in Medieval Iceland. I'm biased, but it's not a bad read (hopefully).

So what is Fjorn now, if not a skald?

I'm actually still a storyteller, but instead of sharing educational content I'm focusing on my creative ambitions, namely a fantasy manga/graphic novel series. Here's a preview:

This post would get too long if I summarized that project here (but feel free to ask me about it). The world it takes place in, Älthren, is backed by roughly 500 pages of handwritten lore. If anything, that's where my 'academic' brain is dwelling these days. If you like northern-European and east-Asian cultures, you'll probably enjoy it. The prologue and 1st chapter will be free to read, so please give it a chance if you happen to see it later.

The rest of this post will just be a bullet-point summary of my interests, so feel free to skip it (but many thanks for reading this far!):

I'm not a Norse pagan anymore, but I'm still spiritual and revere nature. I kind of wander around with whatever feels right, but I'm particularly drawn to land-spirits. Even if I'm not a proper pagan, though, I don't mind being part of friendly, open communities.

I'm an otaku, which means I really enjoy reading manga, light novels, and watching anime. I'm currently obsessing over Vinland Saga. If you're on MAL (my anime list), you can find me here.

I've always been an artist, even longer than I was a historian. I used to paint with oils, but now I mostly work digitally using Procreate on my iPad Pro.

I have a very floofy cat (and she's gotten pretty needy lately).

I love tea, but I've recently started drinking coffee (I prefer it cold, though, so I usually drink cold brew).

I used to run a tea shop (The Northern Herbalist) on Etsy.

I studied Icelandic in Iceland (Ísajörður) for 3 weeks, but...I don't remember much of the language because I stopped practicing.

I'm trying to learn Japanese and may move there someday.

I proposed to my fiancée in Ireland. We've been together for 12 years this November.

My educational website didn't work out (thanks to burnout, priorities shifting, and harmful situations...), but I've been working on getting into the UI/UX field. It seems random, but considering my passion for art and that I used to run a website (where I enjoyed ensuring everything worked well and looked pretty), it's not too surprising. Sometimes it bothers me that I'm not doing history, but life is hard.

I think that's enough for this post. Probably more than anyone actually wants/needs to know, but I want to emphasize that I'm a messy person with conflicting interests. That means I won't only be posting/talking about Norse stuff. I will, but not always. It's a big part of me, but not all of me. Many thanks for accepting that!

The customization options were incredible allows you to set eye color, hair color, styles, effects, and more. and go to the temporary file folder used by DAZ Studio. On the General tab there should be the Temporary Files Folder specified. Without adequate OpenGL on your system, the application software will either warn you or simply crash. OpenGL enables the software to work with the graphics card for the real time preview. ‘I can’t. I have to work’ you said, unable to tell her the truth, namely that you would be spending the weekend with her father.

‘That’s a shame. Well, I guess you would rather come and visit me in Dublin when dad is home anyway’ she then joked and you couldn’t help but gulp.

I went to Denise’s parents’ house for help as I was so upset but, in the end, I worked things out with your father through the Church counsellor’ your mother explained before telling you that your father had threatened Cillian and his ex-wife if they wouldn’t stay out of their marriage.

‘Mum, in all honesty, you deserve better than this. Why do you put up with his anger? Just because he repents every week doesn’t make it right’ you said, taking her hand.

‘Because I love him and this happened once. It never happened again’ she said and you simply nodded, having to accept her decision.
