Hi! I was wondering if you had any tips on how to color the flashbacks in the begins episodes, because they have that weird green tint that's so hard to get rid of? Would really appreciate any advice you had! Love all your gifs :)

yeah flashback scenes in 911 can be tricky to color. i don't know why they made the el paso flashbacks look so drab, or the hershey flashbacks so glowy and green lol. anyway, i have two flashback examples on how to go from this:

steps under the cut (:

CURVES

the first thing i always do is usually use a curves layer to white balance the colors automatically. it can be quite handy, but it's usually not enough. it can be a great place to start though. on the top right you can click the 3 lines menu and choose "auto options..."

then you can play around with the different settings in the algorithms section, and the snap neutral midtones. there's usually one that's better, so i just toggle between them and choose which one looks best.

if the auto settings don't work well for your shot, you can always do this manually with the black and white droppers with a curves or levels layer. becca/@yenvengerberg did a great tutorial on it here (in the step one: curves section)

as you can see it brings the colors in a more neutral zone and less saturated, but the coloring still needs more editing.

COLOR BALANCE

i used a color balance layer to bring back some warmth into the eddie gif. i started by giving it a bit of red in the shadows, then with midtones and highlights, i simply played with the sliders until i got something i liked (knowing i'll grade the colors more specifically later).

CHANNEL MIXER

for the maddie & buck gif, i wanted to reduce the yellow/green tint. i needed to add some blue to counter the yellow and channel mixer worked better than color balance for this one. this channel mixer tutorial by kate/@aubrey-plaza goes into so much depth, much better than i ever could, but here's how i did it:

SELECTIVE COLOR

my favorite and most used layer! i use it all the time. for the eddie gif, i wanted to make it warmer and less drab. i always start with deepening the blacks, then i want to make sure the skintones are good with the reds and yellows.

then the rest is mostly small adjustments to my liking, especially with cyans, blues, neutrals. this particular gif doesn't have a lot of blue tones so it doesn't change a lot tho haha

FINAL TOUCHES

now that the gifs are color graded, what's left is to add final touches, aka more vibrance, contrast, exposure, etc etc.

Round of applause for Fort Thitipong

This might be my last LITA Post (I want to CRY) but I wanted to take the time to point out how GREAT of an actor Fort Thitipong is.

With how versatile Fort was he rarely took me out of a scene or had a facial expression that did not match the situation. There’s always room for improvement, but for his first series as a main lead, I HAVE to give it to him.

So here are 5 of my favorite acting moments for Fort in no particular order

1. Angry Prapai when Sky worries him

No but look at his face, this man was ANGRY, FLABBERGASTED, HURT, and so much more. You can tell he wanted to CUSS Sky OUT but also wanted to properly address sky’s actions. It was this scene that confirmed to me that Fort was definitely going to EAT his role up!!

2. Prapai beating the shit out of Gun

I already made a post on it, but FORT’S PUNCHES WERE REALISTIC! It’s rare that we see punches in media that look like savage beatings which are what some fights look like in reality. This mainly happens when someone falls down. As people who commented on my post said, he was using “hammer fists” to just repeatedly pummel Gun, no regular ass person squares up like Mike Tyson😭. Thank you Fort and the director for not trying to give us professional MMA Fighter moves LMFAOO.

3. Emotional Prapai when Sky tries to cut him off

Still can’t believe Sky really tried that😭. But when fort/prapai said “so you pick up the phone when it’s not my number” and “do you realize what you’re saying?!” I could feel his emotions. He was so hurt and the way he gripped the phone to calm himself down….Fort delivered

4. Bathtub special episode Prapai

Had a hard time choosing between this scene and the seaside almost proposal (?) cuz both were so captivating. I don’t know if it’s the mixture of Forts acting and the cinematography, but every scene he had in the special was amazing. This bathtub scene in particular because the conversation, the way he physically reacted to Sky, THE EYE CONTACT. You could tell he was intently listening to sky based on the changes in facial expression and the eye contact.

5. King of Breaking and entering

This is the scene that had the girls SOBBING, and by the girls…I mean me💀There were so many emotions Fort conveyed while he was reading that diary, I was on the EDGE of my seat. Definitely in the top 5 moments in the entire show.

Often times we focus on Forts golden retriever like expressions, but we should also appreciate him for being able to portray different feelings with his eyes. That’s something some of my favorite BL actors have in common, they act with their eyes (which is definitely not an easy task). These are of course not all of Forts best moments but if I kept going it would be too long.

now, how do you even choose one single scene?!! seriously, i don’t wanna play this game anymore… why would you do this to me?! 🥺 ughh i’m choosing more than one again because i’m very bad at making decisions and just because i’m allowed 🤭

and again, i have plenty of fav hand movements (yours been one of my fav too 😊🤭) i love the way they grab each other’s head/neck/hair while kissing (which happens like 90% of the time and i feel very blessed every single time 🥰🫠)… those will always be my fav but i’m choosing other kind of movements here ‘cause hey, why not?!! 🥵🤭

4- Favorite Side Character

This is mean. This is evil. This is like asking me to choose a favorite child. You want me to choose between the like of: Tarn, Bas, Vegas, Mae, Ming, Yoon Won Galactica, TIEN?! Come on now.

I don't know that I can really choose between my beloved sides, so I will just pick the one I think Serves The Most Cunt:

Tankhun Theerapanyakul, the man you are.

Listen, I want to establish that part of the reason I am giving this prestigious award of Favorite Side is because I think over the top, ridiculous characters are incredibly difficult to play well. I think it can be hard to take over the top characters seriously, and I think you toe a line between seeming like a bad actor or making your character a farce, and I think Tong did a phenomenal job balancing Tankhun so that he is ridiculous but in a way that feels grounded? And I like that Tankhun has levels to his energy and that he is capable of being serious, and observant, and be able to be taken seriously, which I think is rare for the comedic sides. At least out of Thailand.

6- Favorite Siblings

IT'S THE WEATHER BOYS!!!

Tai and Tien have such a great relationship, and their dynamic as siblings feels realistic. Tien and Tai love each other so much. They annoy the fuck out of each other. Tien is terrified when Tai ends up on that mountain, but his first response when Tai is rescued is to punch him. I love their dynamic so much, and I am so glad that we got them this year.

14- BL I Think is Underrated

I'm with @shortpplfedup on this one

WEDDING PLAN.

Not enough people watched this show and I am Upset. These boys were great, the lavendar wedding set up was smartly written, and this show by MAME was lacking in all of the things I routinely seeing people critique her work for.

Out of Korea though, I will say that I feel like not enough people have watched Sing My Crush.

17- Best Kiss

GOD, once again asking me to pick a favorite child.

Okay so we have Ultimate Kissing Scenes: Bad Buddy, Ep 5 and Old Fashion Cupcake, Ep 4.

So let's look at some other favorites.

Once again, I agree with @shortpplfedup it's I Feel You Linger in the Air

I loved the Episode 7 kiss in the rain so much, and objectively I think that is probably the best kiss in the show. But I want to shout out the scene in Episode 12 that leads in to the Saddest Fuck BL Has Ever Seen. Just because I think Tee made a lot of smart choices in how he conveyed sex scenes, especially The Oiling and the montage he had in Episode 12 over the panting breaths.

Otherwise, I am really desperately in love with Khan and Tua's first kiss in The Eclipse. I don't know why, there are a lot of really small kisses that I absolutely love, like the forehead kiss Uea gives King in Episode 6. But the Khan x Tua kiss was so small and exploratory, and cautious and I thought it was perfect.

well, my headcanon for them is that they actually end up together, but nobody knows :D they suspect, but pretend they don't see, like I am pretty sure that they would not want their relationship be known to everyone, at least not in the beginning, maybe half or an year after asjkhajkhd so it would all lead to stupid situations, cos I love when they have fun and just laugh and nobody dies

I have 2 fav moments, actually more, but I can't choose all, the first would be 'we're forever destined to meet at gunpoint' the moment I realized I ship them, the quote that made me go insane, the entire scene, the entire episode is like the best thing ever, whenever I feel down I just go and rewatch for the team, instant boost, best thing ever.

and the second is from 'reset', I will just throw screenshots here, cos I have no ability to put emotions into words when I watch this scene

anybody expected me to not go insane over them after tHIS??? come on this is like all of my ships at its finest, this is such a doctor x master thing to do

I knew I will fall for HG Wells before I even saw her, because let's be honest, you can't not fall for Jaime Murray, look at her, she is the best, but I definitely did not expect to fall for the ship so hard, like I did not know anything about this fandom before I started watching it, nobody told me there is tHIS! you have to give a fucking warning here for the newbies, look at me, years passed and I come back to gif every goddamn moment with them, I have not finished giffing it all yet, cos I can't gif some scenes in peace

how do you gif HG's sacrifice without 3 mental breakdowns in between????/ I giffed this part from reset and wanted to chew on my laptop cos you can't just gif it and not yell every second of the process

that's insane they are not canon, but who gives a fuck about canon, cos they are more than canon, they are literally the definition of angst and pain, I will forever hate the show for doing what they did and giving them straight lovers and making myka and... well, I never finished the show cos of that. cos how can I?? anyone remember this show for myka and pete being together? I don't for sure, and I don't really see anybody talking about it after so many years, we remember the good things - which are Bering and Wells lol. yeah, I know there were many great things in the show, stories were fun, characters great, etc, but I remember this show and still gif it and love it due to Helena Wells, and specifically this pairing, I don't think I would have loved it the way I do if there was not HG or this couple. They are WH13 for me. and while being canon is not important for me, just imagining what an impact they would have if the show let them be together, that would be fabulous.

Kinn Being The Dom Of Kinnporsche Ep 13-14 The End Of Season 1

Here we are at this bitter sweet moment. We are at the end of the journey involving season one and our D/s posts. Bitter because there will be no more after this but sweet because it's a memory that I for one will always linger over. I hope you've enjoyed this as much as we both have. I'm hopefully that we'll get to do this again in season two, so everyone start crossing your fingers now. As usual this will be the Dom companion piece to my lovely iffy's submission piece, which can be found here.

Kinn really has come full circle from the person and Dom that he was in episode 2. He has not only learned Porsche as a person but how to provide and care for him. Sometimes a submissive wants a Dom to take control of situations and then other times they want the space to figure it out themselves. While he can clearly see that things are not as they should be, he now knows when to push and when to back off.

Were any of you, by any chance confused by this scene. Before, Kinn has given Porsche smokes for his stress and now he is telling him not to? He is basically using this as an excuse to gently persuade his submissive into talking to him. It's a harder push with "now tell me, what's wrong" and it would have worked too if it hadn't been for that Chan. The next time he has a chance to ask what is eating Porsche he realizes the opportunity to use hard persuasion is lost. Porsche at this point needs space.

A smaller but no less important moment is when Kinn just let Porsche jump on his back. He knows Porsche is afraid of ghost but he provide protection and care in this moment. There was no ridicule, just support. Again, we've come a long way from the Dom that used to degrade on a regular. Now he really limits those moments two things that won't both Porsche and they are in a more intimate setting.

When Kinn goes to move forward and Porsche stops him, you see a gentle correction along with support. While he does remove Porsche's arm it's gently and then he remains in front of Porsche while going to check on Pete. Which gives Porsche the strength to give a closer inspection.

To further show that he is by his side, Kinn cancels everything and tells Porsche to come with him. When Porsche questions where they are going, Kinn just turns and expects Porsche to follow. They really have both come to a very good balance of what they want out of their D/s relationship. Though Porsche is Dominant and bratty, he knows when to give that submission.

Look no further than them visiting Porsche's parents. He didn't have to say anything just nudge for Porsche to know he wanted to be introduces. Though he couldn't help be retaliate with some brattiness which as you can see, Kinn expected.

Then my personal favorite moment. The pool.... Not gonna lie, I might have watched this a hundred times and then verbally just giggled at iffy. There is just something so sensual and rhythmic about the whole scene. Porsche comes in but it's like he is asking Kinn to dance and once he accepts, he's leading. He is controlling the rhythm, the direction, and the moves.

While the show down with his father isn't completely a Dominant moment. It is in the sense that his entire body language was strength and support. He was calm when talking to Porsche and commanding when pushing his gun arm down. So honestly in my book it does count.

Something I want to point out is Kinn's ability to find Porsche. Look at episode 13 where he knew to find him. He followed him to the monastery then back home. At that time, he was attempting to support and back up Porsche. Now he is recognizing that Porsche needs space. That he needs to choose him. In a D/s relationship there is constant revaluation of guidelines and consent.

Porsche sure does know how to make an entrance. The kind that stuns his poor Dom, but I'm here for it.

That being said, Kinn gets his own back by making Porsche verbalize that he is coming back to him. It's in that little nod after he points the gun at Porsche, he's telling him, I need to hear the words. Which Porsche acknowledges and gives him. He smirks as he tells Kinn he chooses him and then Kinn acknowledges this with a smile and nod. Then they are quickly swinging back into action.

This scene in particular. Kinn not only commands but uses the Dominant tone. He follows up with body language and you can see the way that Porsche responds. This isn't a request. This is a command. If you watch, you can see that Porsche has completely taken his finger off the trigger at this point. There is a conversation with Korn but Porsche looks at Kinn for direction and support. Which Kinn readily gives.

One of my favorite moments is just a playful and cute moment. It's very indicative of a typical Dom and brat relationship though. That's when Kinn says he has a surprise and bratty Porsche says he's heading to the bathroom for it. Kinn gives a swift pop on the head and redirects the brat. While it's cute and not intense like most expect, it's really a good representation of Doms and their brats.

And now we've come full circle. From a Dom that could have written How To Be A Bad Dom For Dummies to a very beautiful D/s relationship. Honestly and you'll see iffy say this too, I'm really glad they showed both sides of the coin. Sometimes you have to see the bad to really appreciate and understand the good. Just like in an actual relationship. However, our own story has now come to an end. At least till next season. I want to take the time to thank you everyone involved; iffy for writing this with me and you guys once again for reading it. Hope you enjoyed this labor of love. 💜💜💜

a definitive ranking of every not me episodes

since I have done a full rewatch of not me, I decided to do what I’ve always wanted to do, rank every episode from best to “worst” (let’s be honest, there’s no bad episode lol.) this was incredibly hard to decide, but let’s go!

1. EPISODE 13

it’s really hard to choose a number one bc as you will realize I literally ADORE every single not me episode & don’t consider any of them less than perfect, but... if I had to choose, ep 13 is my number one. this comes from many reasons: first of all if you ask me which not me episode I randomly remember during my day and die over, it’s definitely this one, simply bc it’s just TOO much and TOO iconic. secondly, it’s the climax the whole show has led to, so of course it’s an extra important episode. thirdly, the emotional impact of this episode is one for the history books. not only is this entire ep hella stressful as we watch the plan become more & more unpredictable, but dan’s betrayal of the gang, man. top 5 favorite scenes of ALL TIME. I cry like a little bitch every time, like... the acting is on point from everyone & I’ve never felt a betrayal more in my soul. it’s just executed perfectly, and ep 13 for me will forever be the not me episode in front of which I’ve felt the most emotions.

2. EPISODE 9

this ep is kind of the last calm before the storm with seanwhite having the softest most soulmate-y moment ever recorded in existence & danyok finally getting together, but honestly it’s not that calm bc black comes back & we learn the truth about todd, which makes this ep one of the most important AND enjoyable of the show thanks to all the cuteness <3

3. EPISODE 8

I mean... no one can watch this ep & tell me it’s not pure perfection. we get sean opening up to white before eventually confessing his feelings & them having their first kiss, we have dan being vulnerable with yok in one of the most moving scenes from the whole series, we have sean confronting tawi... an effortless slay across the board, this episode ENDED me when it aired & it ends me every time I rewatch it, 1000/10.

4. EPISODE 6

I’ve loved this episode since it first aired, even prompting me to do a full blown essay about its significance for seanwhite’s relationship at the time. so I will try to not repeat what I already said there, but this episode is not only one of the most suspenseful like all mission episodes, but it’s executed so well and shows so much growth & change for sean & white. it functions as an arc within the whole story, of sean finally trusting white & white betraying that trust (for ultimately the greater good.) it also has some of the most impactful moments of the first half of the show imo, with the fight at the end which is conducted incredibly, and sean admitting he’s scared too during the mission. overall that episode is a masterpiece & I love it WAY too much!

5. EPISODE 14

while this is definitely a kinda rushed ending, it’s still one hell of a good episode. the emotions are here, the good ending for everyone is here while still being open-ended so you can imagine perfectly how the characters’ lives are gonna be, and there’s some of the best cinematography of the whole show as well with the scene with the gang at the back of the van & tawi looking at the protesters from the top of his tower. really great ending!

6. EPISODE 2

this episode is divided into 2 parts, the first one being the burning of tawi’s house which is not only visually stunning & incredibly impactful, but also very significant to the plot with the introduction of dan & also seeing sean be vulnerable for the first time. the second part, back to normal, is still great but less incredible than other episodes that are more well-rounded imo, which is why I’m only ranking it here.

7. EPISODE 10

this ep has two of the most iconic scenes from the series (though there’s like 20 iconic scenes, let’s be honest), the black beating sean up scene & white coming to sean’s rescue as he’s given up on life scene. but the whole episode slays so hard, and shows us white’s relationship with his mother as well as namo being a great friend with sean. it’s just stressful enough before the real pressure starts & has incredible entertaining value. truly a great episode!

8. EPISODE 12

on paper it’s a calmer, less crazy episode, but honestly so much shit happens; we have dan revealing the truth to sean, seanwhite officially coming together, white telling the truth to the gang, and some heart to heart between the twins. it’s such a good episode for that, and one of the chillest ones which is good bc the other ones are fucking tornados lol

9. EPISODE 7

this ep is just SO fucking great, not only with the flag scene which is definitely the best lgbtq+ scene ever imo, but also with the beginning of danyok being in love, like... ICONIC!!! but imo, if you exclude the flag scene, it doesn’t have that many super impactful scenes. like I still love that episode but compared to others, it is definitely less crazy good. the flag scene does raise the grade of that episode significantly though bc it’s just perfect <3

10. EPISODE 11

such a great episode but compared to the others, not that much happens, which is why it’s ranked here. the toddblack & seanblack fight scenes are iconic though!!!

11. EPISODE 1

for a first episode, it’s truly great, as it lays down just enough information to get you hooked but keeps most of the mystery this series thrives on intact. also white getting dropped in a mission he knows nothing about & the reveal that it’s against tawi is truly incredible! but the reason I’m ranking it low is that it does have some slow moments, notably in the classroom scene, but also bc it’s confined by its role as a first episode: nothing much can happen compared to the later episodes no matter what.

12. EPISODE 5

sort of a filler episode but it kickstarts so much shit, including ep 6 which is a fucking masterpiece. the only annoying thing in it is all the gramblack bait that will lead to nothing, but otherwise the scenes are all super enjoyable & the real start of seanwhite & danyok’s relationships.

13. EPISODE 4

also kind of a filler episode, but a bunch of super interesting things still happen so it’s still hella enjoyable. I would say I wish the classroom scene was a bit shorter, but apart from that this episode lays the ground well for ep 5 & 6.

14. EPISODE 3

this one is also more of a filler episode, even though every scene is still super captivating. it’s the beginning of white slowky changing the way he thinks about politics, and him cutting contact with his dad & moving to the garage. the reason it’s ranked last is bc, compared to other eps, it doesn’t have the most important scenes.

happy wincest wednesday! what's your favorite wincest ep for each season?

a big ask!! thank you for this one, i am going to have a very hard time deciding but it'll be fun to sort through them all--

s1: so, so many. i’m going to have to go with something wicked, for all the lovely understanding sam comes to about dean in that episode-- it’s fantastic watching him be so soft towards dean when dean tells him what happened, and it’s an ep where we see the seeds john sowed to shape the boys around each other. fabulously written and so fucked up. runner-up goes to faith for showing the way sam desperately works to save dean, and for “he was probably gonna die anyway.”

s2: WAAAY too many to choose from, so runner up goes to every single episode-- i’m going with born under a bad sign for this one, because i am weak like soggy paper when a character is unable to stop the one they love even when they probably really should. dean walked in on this:

and imagining what jo’s thinking in that moment, when she’s narrowly escaped sexual violence and death, and dean can’t help her because it’s sammy? 🤌🤌🤌🤌🤌

s3: time is on my side, for that scene where sam is talking about maggots while dean’s eating just to tease him, and he’s so delighted about it. also for the immortal corpse-brothers we almost got. doc benton is a fantastic villain who i wish they could have done more with, and i loved the way he tried to make them an offer they can’t refuse. so much excellence and “how are you gonna stop me?” UUUUGH 🐳

s4: fucking every episode, are you kidding me? this season is dripping in fucked-up dark romance between these two. dysfunction and desire galore, sam fucking a corpse because she reminds him of dean and he can’t function with his guilt and his need for his brother, dean’s betrayal and slowly growing resentment without being able to let him go-- if anything will convince people that sam and dean are erotically obsessed with each other, it has to be this season. predictably, i’m going for sex and violence. need i explain?

s5: season five is my least favourite season to rewatch 😬 going off my spotty memory from two years ago, i’m choosing the end for the conversation sam and dean have before the credits roll. <3

s6: you can’t handle the truth, for how desperately dean wants to believe that there’s nothing wrong with sam. truthfully, there’s a ton of great shit with soulless sam, but the scene where he lies to dean and then turns away and his expression just drops is in my top scenes of the entire show, with how dean is crying right in front of him so torn up over the last ep and so grateful that sam didn’t allow him to get turned-- and then the blow up at the end of the episode? delicious.

s7: another one that’s a little difficult for me, but i’m going with party on garth exclusively for the scene where sam and dean get drunk and silly together because i love it <3

s8: there’s a ton of fantastic wincesty moments in this season, but they’re usually in episodes where there’s a lot of other stuff going on. sacrifice is obvious, so obvious it’s cheating, so i’m going with goodbye stranger for so many reasons-- how delighted dean is when sam teases him about his porn addiction, and then his worry when he sees sam’s bloody tissue-- brotherly banter!! most importantly, this is the episode where dean says this:

there’s also that scene in taxi driver where we see how hard it is for dean to kill benny, but how he does it anyway just because he needs sam.

s9: i am everybody’s favourite season nine stan 🙏 i will forever be obsessed with this season for it’s heartbreak and all the wild punches it throws. i’m choosing blade runners for this, which is a super underrated episode. sam is pissed the hell off at dean, and he’s murderous with crowley, but he doesn’t let that stop him from saving his brother. the hints we get that sam isn’t giving up on their relationship in this episode set up the rest of the season as well as his unstoppable drive in season ten. the finale is my TRUE fave from this season, but blade runners tells the story in a fabulously subtle way.

s10: my, my, my. mark of cain my dearly beloved. SO much good shit. my rewatch is stalled about halfway through, so while i’d choose a later episode, at the top of my mind is the things we left behind for this:

HELLO???? there are so many choice moments in season ten for sam just being The Most, but the face cradling and the way sam goes right for dean and begs him to say he had to do it... kisses for all the writers.

s11: everything :D season 11 fed us SO good. going off of my season ten choice, though, i’m choosing safe house for sam bodily cradling dean at the end, with his huge sigh of relief when he has him in his arms, and for being the person dean sees. i mean, look at this romance:

s13: a most holy man, for the super cute brotherly banter in that episode, and both of them looking sexy as hell. they for sure banged after that ep.

s14: nihilism, for the way that sam appearing immediately begins to break the fantasy dean’s trapped in, the way cas pleading with dean changes nothing, and the fact that one of dean’s happiest memories in his mindscape is from sex and violence??? proof that sam and dean fucked that episode #real

s15: controversial of course but carry on is all i can say because most of this season is bonkers.

the character everyone gets wrong: Aang, obviously. I have several other asks about the worst fandom takes which are also about Aang. I do NOT understand how fandom can get the titular character SO WRONG so often (though I have a feeling it has to do with shipping, and also THIS excellent meta which goes into the many stereotypes people wrongly or unfairly apply to Aang (although, warning, it's zukaang-centered but a lot of it applies to Aang as a character even without the ship), among other things.

19. you're mad/ashamed/horrified you actually kind of like... OKAY SO this was one of the asks that made me ALMOST consider not posting this game hahaha because there... isn't really anything I'm mad/ashamed/horrified of liking? I don't (or at least I try not to) place value judgments on tropes or ships or fics or any of that, and I accept that the things I like, I like them for a reason (whether it's because it helps me work out my own shit or because it's just fun/interesting to imagine a fictional scenario like that where no one in real life is getting hurt or whatever). I guess in the beginning of my fandom days, I would've said smut, but I've also (obviously) accepted that so 🤷🏻‍♀️

22. your favorite part of canon that everyone else ignores...

The Serpent's Pass episode where Aang just casually, not-so-subtly tells Katara he wants to have a family with her and she tearfully and HAPPILY agrees/accepts because SHE LOVED HIM EVEN THEN, YOUR HONOR. Ok, sorry. Maybe that's just my favorite scene, haha, but fandom definitely sleeps on Katara's feelings for Aang which are evident THROUGHOUT THE SHOW if one ever cares to look for non-verbal cues (and even verbal ones, honestly, just maybe not as obvious as Aang's). Obviously their love grows and changes as the show progresses but girl was ready to leave her tribe for him after knowing him for HOURS... I don't understand what's so hard to get, hahaha

This has been a question I’ve been wanting to ask, mostly cuz I’m curious! If you had to rank your personal favorite iterations of the TMNT based on characters and story, which would rank higher in your opinion? Bayverse turtles can also count!! 😁

I had to marinate on this. It's very hard to pick favorites when there's so many good versions to choose from. And these are just personal favorites, not a hard line on which show/movie is the best ever. No need to tell me what's what if anyone sees this list and disagrees. This is just my personal list.

I think my absolute top tier is still the 2003 version. This is largely due to the fact that this series was allowed to cover all the story lines that it wanted. Granted, not every episode is gold, but it really took advantage of all the things you can do in a TMNT universe and very much set a precedent of other versions to follow. (I do not count Fast Forward and Back to the Sewers in this.)

Rise of the TMNT is second. I think it had the capacity to surpass 2003, but it wasn't afforded the opportunity. With how much world-building and new ground it covered with only a season and a half, I can't even imagine what we would have had with a full five seasons or so if it had been allowed to continue.

Bayverse is my third favorite. Not necessarily because I think it's the "best", but because it's a lot of fun to play in. Some fans take Bayverse very seriously. I just can't. It's my anything-goes universe. I reserve a bit of respect for the other universes, but with Bayverse, I can do whatever dumb shit I want. I can make the dialog as crass as I want, I can explore more mature themes that I otherwise wouldn't put in a TMNT universe. I dunno, it's just stupid and fun. Also, very big turtles. I can't get enough.

Next is the 90's movies trilogy. The 2nd and 3rd are just stupid fun and very enjoyable. The first one, I think is still the best movie script to date and it too set a precedent for future TMNT iterations, including 2003.

I'll sneak in some comics here. "The Last Ronin" is a great read, if sad. Though not as rough of a read as I anticipated. And I really adored the TMNT/Power Rangers second crossover. (I have not read the first.) Of course, the art is AMAZING, but the script was great, too. I don't know a lot about PRs, but I could mostly follow along. And the Raphael/Casey bromance in this was SO GOOD.

Next, I would put the first 5 episodes of the 80's cartoon here. Yes, the show got dumb. They were on for like 10 seasons. But the first five episodes are pretty solid and a really good story. If you haven't seen the 80's cartoon and are overwhelmed with the sheer amount of episodes there are, just watch the first five. That's all you need.

I guess 2012 will go here. It's not my favorite series, though I know it's some fans' absolute true love TMNT iteration. I thought the first season was (mostly) pretty solid and I was really into it when it first came out, but by the end it was just the hottest of messes. Are there some fantastic episodes? Yes. Is this one of the best Splinters we've ever had? Also yes. Are the turtles' designs absolutely freaking adorable? Of course. Is that enough to carry this series for me? Unfortunately, no. This show is one big garbage fire and I didn't even watch most of the last season. Though I did catch that incredibly off-putting last episode.

Turtles Forever goes here. It was a great idea for a movie and I would have put it higher up, but I just watched it recently. It's actually kind of mean-spirited to other iterations, specifically the 80's version. So it goes lower on the scale for me.

The 2007 movie is next. Terrible script. So-so character designs. Some fantastic scenes. Probably one of the best Raphaels we've had.

Bottom tier stuff: Fast Forward, Back to the Sewers, a lot of the 80's show. The Next Mutation.

The set of Nancy Drew is so quiet this week. I’m choosing to believe it is a super special effects heavy, dramatic (dare I say curse breaking?) episode that is both tiring and spoilery, hence the radio silence.

In the meantime to tide us over, I just published Chapter 8 of my Season 4 spec fiction The Space Between, in which our favorite characters dress up in their finest, everything’s happening at the Youth Center fundraiser, and Nancy and Ace enact their plan to investigate the Glasses with unexpected results.

Ace took her hand and led her out to the dance floor. The band had just finished the Motown classic, and launched right into a more recent slow song, “Ocean Eyes.”

Ace put his arms around Nancy’s waist, while she put her hands around his shoulders. They were both careful to keep a safe distance, not letting their bodies touch. It was hard not to stare into each other’s eyes, though, and think about the night before.

Thai BL Favorites List

Thank you for tagging me, @ellaspore! It has taken me a while to finish this, but if you’re making me choose this harshly between my favorite shows and characters, my choices have to be well thought-through. Which doesn’t mean I’m capable of narrowing down pretty much anything to just one per category, so expect me to cheat a lot here.

Favorite Thai BL: I have too many Thai BLs I love, and I don’t really have one favorite that tops them all, so let me use this chance instead to rectify the fact that I forgot about one important show when I was asked about my nine favorite shows last time: KinnPorsche. My beloved.

Current Obsession: I’ll go with Be My Favorite here. But I have to say, Laws of Attraction is climbing the ranks fast and, after only two episodes, I have just about reached the same level of obsession I have for Be My Favorite. I’m still on the fence about Hidden Agenda, but this could easily become a favorite too.

Favorite Pairing: Oh no. Don’t make me choose. This might honestly be the hardest question on this list. One of the first couples I thought of was Akk and Ayan from The Eclipse, but my heart is also screaming at me to say Kluen and Daonuea from Star in my Mind, or Tinn and Gun from My School President. I can’t possibly narrow this down even more, three is already too few. Can I skip this question? 👀

Most Underrated Actor: I don’t know if he’s underrated in general or I just personally underestimated him for the longest time, but Gawin is doing really, really well in Be My Favorite (I also substantially underestimated his singing abilities). Other than that, I’m really impressed by how phenomenally Film is portraying Charn in Laws of Attraction.

Favorite Character: No. I refuse to answer this. You can’t make me. Everything in me is hurting at the idea of choosing one. Let me just dodge this question by listing like the first dozen people that come to mind (my brain works in mysterious and non-comprehensible ways, just don’t question it): Gun (My School President), Akk (The Eclipse), Kluen (Star in my Mind), Jeng (Step by Step), Yai (Big Dragon), Mark (Love Mechanics), literally everyone from Moonlight Chicken, but especially Alan (he is the most understandable and human and complex antagonist I’ve ever seen, and it makes me insane). I said what I said.

Favorite Side Character: Honestly, right now I’ll give this to Tien from La Pluie. There are so many other incredible side characters that deserve to be here, but I’m particularly in love with him right now.

Favorite Scene in a BL: I have a particular obsession with this one scene in ep 10 of Never Let Me Go where Palm returns to Nueng and they reunite in that abandoned building and promise each other eternal love and support. It’s the look on Nueng’s face when he sees Palm that gets me—all that longing and hope and unadulterated happiness and relief of getting to see him again. Then there’s also this one scene in ep 8 of The Eclipse where Ayan is the most patient and loving person ever in trying to coax out Akk’s feelings, which leads to one of the softest kisses in BL history (in my personal opinion). Oh, and I also frequently rewatch the one in Not Me where White runs away from Sean after Sean finds out about the twin thing, and Sean says all hurt and in love and confused, “I don’t even know what your name is”, and White tells him, and Sean immediately repeats it and hugs him like he finally has the right to his real identity, to the real him, and he’s in awe. And the soundtrack, ugh, it’s so good.

Favorite Line in a BL: Cake saying “Nobody’s hurt just because we love each other” to See-Eiw in My Only 12%. That line struck me so hard. Oh, and Akk and Ayan telling each other they are allowed to be weak with each other in The Eclipse. The way they promised each other weakness wasn’t something to be ashamed of, ugh. And then there’s the end credits of 180° Longitude Passes Through Us saying (amongst other emotionally devastating things), “To you who call yourself a parent: you can only give birth to them, but you don’t own them.” The way I wept when I read that. This show tried to destroy me, and it succeeded.

Most Anticipated BL (& Why): Only Friends, which will come as no surprise to anyone who has talked to me about it. I trust P’Jojo with all my heart and I trust these actors to create the queerest, messiest story in GMMTV history or even Thai BL history.

Healthiest relationship in a BL: Oh, I’m also really tempted to say Tinn and Gun from My School President. And for a bit of an underrated relationship—Fuse and Ana from Future.

Most Toxic Relationship in a BL: Korn and Knock in Together With Me. Mostly because of how Knock treated Korn like he was disposable and only for him to play with.

Guilty Pleasure Series: I will not answer with Star in my Mind like you did, @ellaspore, simply because I do not feel even remotely guilty for the love I have for this series. I’ll go with Big Dragon, instead.

So that was a wild ride full of conflicting feelings. Thanks for inviting me to try this! QOTS Rewatch - Season 5 Retrospective

Man, I've been dragging my feet on working on this. I've spent almost a full year on this rewatch (it really took on a life of its own; I didn't go into it planning to write involved metas or reblog a week's worth of gifsets for every episode but I am just THAT over the top) and I don't even know what I'm going to do with myself now that it's over. Watch something else?!?!?! Like what!?!?!?! Seriously though.

Anyway, where were we? Season 5. It's an interesting season to reflect back on. Sometimes it feels like my second-favorite season after season 2, and other times it feels like my second-least-favorite season after season 4. It ends up being really difficult to place. Its primary problem really in my opinion is that it's rushed, and there's so much plot to get through that the writers and editors had to leave us with sometimes frustratingly short character-driven scenes and force us to fill in the gap. But it does feel more Teresa-driven than season 1 does and, Kote notwithstanding, the non-Teresa-centered scenes still somehow feel a little more relevant or engaging than some of the Vargas stuff in seasons 1 and 3 both. (Epifanio and Batman's story took up a superfluous amount of screen time in season 1, I realized on rewatch, and season 3 has soooo much Cortez and Isabela and Loya and stuff that is way more painful to watch than Kelly Anne getting an ultrasound, even if Pote's sexist quips do make me roll my eyes.) So I don't know. I guess you'll have to give me a few more weeks to think about it. But season 5 as a whole entity in my opinion stands up pretty well on rewatch. It's the Jeresa content in season 5 that doesn't hold up as well as season 2 or 3's Jeresa. (Again, largely because of how rushed it is.)

3: 5x05, Mas Dinero Mas Problemas

It actually was hard to choose the third place episode. There are several other contenders for this spot. But this episode as a whole is really fun to me. It's Teresa-centric. It features Oksana (yay female characters). It's set in Berlin. It features awesome Jeresa teamwork. It throws back to earlier show canon (Rocco de la Pena! Oleg!) and Teresa even gets to break an asshole's nose. James's all-black suit is to die for, as is Teresa's high pony, and best of all? The non-Teresa-focused material is focused on George and Boaz in Miami which, while definitely feeling sinister, gives both of them great material to work with. George buying Teresa that boat? Lol. This is an episode that I gladly watch in full without wanting to fast-forward through anything (a rarity for me among episodes after season 2) and it's a queenpin-esque version of Teresa that isn't as painful as the previous two episodes. All great stuff.

2: 5x09, A Prueba de Balas

Listen, I am not going to pretend that this is here for any other reason than the love confessions and long-awaited Jeresa hook-up, though I love every single Jeresa moment in the episode, I love that it's down to the two of them against the world (just like it was in the beginning before Teresa even knew that it was the two of them against the world), and I love that she takes out Kostya like the badass she is. We won't talk about the raccoons and peewee soccer.

1: 5x02, Me Llevo Manhattan

OBVIOUSLY. I mean: this episode might be my favorite episode of the entire series. It's perfect, classic, angsty, electric Jeresa; they actually talk to each other about stuff other than business (several times); they call back in their dialogue to earlier seasons. They KISS and it's magnetic. They dance around whatever the fuck it is that's happening between them. And they both just stumble around incoherently attracted to each other but refusing to talk about it because they are imbeciles. On top of all that, there's James back to his going-all-out-to-protect-Teresa habits and Teresa back to her taking-crazy-risks-but-earning-mad-respect bs. Teresa's whole "you work for me now; when I call, you answer on the second ring" speech to Lafayette is literal fire and even the non-Jeresa scenes in this episode are good: Kelly Anne with Judge Lafayette's business partner; Boaz with the Judge; the pregnancy reveal. My favorite scene of the episode, though, the one that makes me levitate, is the balcony scene between James and Teresa in Manhattan. Wtffffff that scene was like, designed to personally destroy me. But more about that later.

Top 5 Season 5 Scenes

This was so hard for me. The truth is that there are two types of scenes, Jeresa scenes and non-Jeresa scenes, and they belong on parallel ladders to me. The Teresa who shows up with James and the Teresa who shows up otherwise is so different (I mean: compare literally any of the 5x02 Jeresa scenes to, say, how Teresa interacts with Oksana and Oscar and the Judge in that same episode). And I love both kinds of scenes for her. The way she almost coyly greets those real estate developers in 5x06, knowing full well she's going to slaughter them? *shivers* sooooo good. But when push comes to shove, it's the Jeresa scenes that all slide to the top, because it's the version of herself she gives him that is the one we're ultimately rooting for. So without further ado:

#5:

The scene: Episode 5x02, bedroom conversation

What I love about it: Soooo muuuuuch subtext here. After Teresa in the previous episode gave James literally nothing to work with, now that she's wrapped her mind around him being back she is completely unable to keep up the act. Watching both of them dancing around what they're actually trying to talk about is so delightful, and the icing on the cake is Chicho walking in right in the middle of a particularly intimate gesture.

#4:

The scene: Episode 5x09, the balcony kiss

What I love about it: Do I really need to explain myself? I love this kiss so much because it's written all over Teresa's face what combination of fear, desire, and love is driving her. It's no longer impulsive as it was in 5x02 or tenuous as it was in 3x09 or generous as it was in 3x05, it's for her, it's because she wants him and she's terrified of dying without him knowing it. And then he returns it so wholly and confidently and damn. To me it's the moment they catch up to each other and finally land on the same page. The I love yous that follow were made possible by this kiss.

#3:

The scene: Episode 5x07, the waterfront launch party heart-eyes

What I love about it: Again, so much subtext here. The intense intimacy of a moment in which relatively little gets said (and all of it completely innocuous). The verbal callback to the season 3 finale made the fandom's collective hearts jump to our throats as we wondered, with Teresa, if he was about to say he was leaving. Teresa's clear display of vulnerability in this single 90 second scene made up for the four previous episodes of distance between them. But really.... it's all in the subtext here.

#2:

The scene: Episode 5x10, the final Queenpin scene

What I love about it: It's the perfect Queenpin send-off. It's perfectly appropriate that she shows up one last time and the way it's done here is so beautiful. She looks so serene and her nod of approval closes the circle with episodes 2x06 and 3x10 where Queenpin seemed to be nudging Teresa towards James. And THEN, as Queenpin departs, James steps in. 'You ok?' Could it be any clearer? She doesn't need Queenpin to be her guardian angel anymore. She has James. God, I must be in a mood today because I'm literally choking up as I write this 😭 Excuse me while I go rewatch this scene 28 more times.

#1:

The scene: Episode 5x02, the balcony scene

What I love about it: Was there ever any doubt this was going to be my number one scene of this season? No, there was not. It is the perfect combination of classic Jeresa--James pining, Teresa being cool and unruffled, an almost visible electric current of tension between them, and oh my god the subtexttttttt. Yes, I'm predictable. I don't even think I have enough words to convey exactly how much this scene breaks me apart and I definitely don't have the words to confess how often I rewatch it. Literally I AM JAMES when she says "you and me can't happen" and I feel my entire body turn to jelly, and then when she says "maybe in some other life" I'm like EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE GO GET IT JAMES. This scene to me is their crowning achievement as actors playing this couple of idiots. That chemistry is crazy.

Yes, the finale is my least-favorite episode of the season. There's just nowhere near enough Teresa, or James. Waaaaay too much Pote, and Pote is just not an interesting character. Plus it's so dominated by men. I just could not care about the fight between him and Boaz. It all felt like male viewership fan service. Ew. So, looking at episodes in their entirety, it falls at the bottom. Really though I think this speaks to honestly how strong the season is overall, when it comes down to it. I loved it on rewatch and looking back at this list I even feel sad about having 5x03 and 5x04 so low! I've grown to like even those, despite how painful some of the scenes are.

Teresa's Journey

So, this is the season that obviously brings her as close to Queenpin as she'll ever come, the season in which she faces the ultimate choice: fully abandon herself in a quest to become untouchable in her power, or fully abandon that quest in order to save her soul. Both of these are different sides of the "survival" coin. And both involve incredible risk. Having taken out Kostya, she came as close as really was possible to that untouchable power that the Queenpin visions throughout the series evoked. She would have been protected by the American CIA and would have run the largest and most powerful drug empire in the world. Of course when you're at the top, someone is always ready to take you out, so the risk of staying--despite the promise of safety and protection--was huge.

On the other hand, disappearing. So much risk there, too. So simple in concept: shed your identity, go somewhere remote, and start over from scratch. But when you're in the cartel world that deep, obviously it's not just possible to get out. Your continued existence is too threatening to everyone who stays in; you know way too much. And SO much could go wrong in the process of trying to escape.

So both of these choices offered the promise of safety and both came with a heaping side of risk. But the Teresa we were introduced to in season 1 would've had absolutely no difficulty picking between them, right? So in retrospect, her full character journey was to slowly and gradually become someone who would believably struggle with that choice, someone we would believably worry might make the "wrong" choice.

And I think they really did pull that off. Already by season 2, it's less clear that she would choose to disappear rather than become all-powerful. She'd already lost everyone she'd loved by then and felt herself to be alone, and I think loneliness was one of the biggest drivers for her in seeking power over feeding her soul. It was always loss and trauma that pushed her further into the business and, even though season 5 didn't super explicitly link her rapid power grabs to Tony's death the previous season, it was clearly the darkness of that loss (maybe combined with the unsettling reappearance of James) that pushed her over the edge.

So was it believable that, in the end, she chose her soul? Yeah. They made us worry about her for the first half of season 5, pushing away everyone she cared about and seeming like a hollow shell of herself. But by episode 5x08 her vulnerability is palpable again. Like George's loss, combined with pregnant Kelly Anne's kidnapping, and faced with the possibility of dying herself, and losing James in the process, that she gets her wakeup call. So to me, her final decision feels very earned. I just wish they hadn't wasted a full episode trying to convince us she wasn't going to make it 😂

Jeresa

And all inextricably tied up with Teresa's character turnaround in season 5 is her relationship with James. This is another thing the season didn't make super explicit, at least in the written dialogue, but on rewatch it feels exceptionally clear that his presence allowed her to make what no doubt seemed like an impossible decision to turn the train around that was fast hurtling towards a cliff. He:

showed up mortally wounded trying to save her life

stuck by her side even when she made a disappointing decision that showed how much she'd changed

tolerated her snapping at him and pushing him away because he wasn't going to just give up on her after the huge way she'd busted into HIS life and changed HIM from the inside out

gently challenged her, wherever possible, despite having had it made clear to him that doing that was risky

backed her up 100% and went the extra mile to show his loyalty (beating up Navarro's connect), care (delivering an entire army of ex-Mossad for her security), and competence (stealing the painting)

And then, when she'd sent Pote and Kelly Anne packing and it was just the two of them again (the symmetry to the beginning of the series is so lovely there), his steadiness in the face of her emotional undoing is such a visible factor of her turning everything around. Yes, she's scared for Kelly Anne and her baby. Yes, she's upset about George. But in 5x09 after she's sent Kote away and it's too late to save George, those aren't her motivators anymore. James is. You can see it in her eyes on the balcony that it's not her own death that she fears but the possibility of dying without having loved.

Teresa is a lover. We knew that from the very beginning. She essentially told us that in her own voice over in the pilot. Her drug of choice was Guero. Comparing Guero to a drug is so apt (and foreshadows all the events of the first three seasons and how Guero's actions underlie so much of what she had to go through) so that her fear of love also becomes understandable. She was so slow to fully trust James because of the betrayal she'd experienced before; she was slow to open herself up to him as a lover because the risk of that vulnerability was too devastating. But when she stares down death and realizes she's held real love at arm's-length, its pull and its promise is way too great to turn away from.

I think the writers and show runners of this season struggled with this because the love story they'd created was so powerful and yet they knew (and I agree) that this show wasn't intended to be a love story. The book that it's based on is not a love story. It's the story of a woman and her incredible journey from life on the streets of Culiacán to becoming a powerful druglord and then her final escape from that life. But Jeresa is so powerful that even without explicit efforts on the part of the writers this season it's clear that it's a story in which love wins. She gets out, because of love. She makes the choice to disappear, because of love. Yes, platonic and familial love play into it, too; and stacking up the losses of those she's loved over the years and the risks to those who remain are explicitly part of the story. But by 5x09 the only ones who remain are her and James. She's lost or sent away everyone else.

I guess I forgive the writers for leaving much of their relationship this season to the imagination. I would've loved more conversations between the two of them that were 5x02 or 3x08 caliber, but I think the writers were trying to strike a balance between the people who clearly watched the show for Jeresa and the people who clearly cared less. Do I think they should've just written the show the seasons 2-3 writers set up? Yes. Do I blame them for trying to please a broader base? No. I don't, because I think it's ultimately so obvious anyway that James helped Teresa out of the cave in the same way she did originally that it still ties together beautifully in the end.

So. Now what?

As I said yesterday, I have saved many hundreds of gifsets in my queue still to reblog that I didn't reblog as part of the "official" rewatch. And I'm sure I'll continue to find more, and will reblog any others that get created. I'm also a huuuuuge Alice fan (in case that's not abundantly obvious by now) and will stick around to reblog whatever Alice content I consumer and maybe even Peter content from time to time. I'll post a full series retrospective eventually, but I doubt it will be quite as comprehensive as these season metas because I think I've kind of covered a lot of the analytical ground by now!! But I still want to do my rankings and all that. All that to say: I'll be around. And I hope to continue to see some of you around too 🥰 Thanks for sticking with me.

anyway yeah the dyke in me was anti the boys at first but it did make a lot of narrative sense to bring them in and honestly it really kept the show fresh and showed how good the writers are bc like...somehow we actually got to know them really well in only 8 episodes. kirin and ivan's arc was fucking amazing bro. i feel like they rlly stepped up their game in writing the dystopian stuff too which was the weakest part of s1 imo. idk and also like fuck seth obviously but the factioning of the boys and the constantly shifting dynamics contrasting with the girls becoming family was soooo interesting. anyway overall i like the boys they rlly aren't so bad :')

forever turning sweet nothing around in my head and i've been thinking about the pebble line ("does it ever miss wicklow sometimes?") and how you can almost interpret that to be about this person jumping into the fishbowl with her...like do you ever miss your life before i swept you up into mine? and on an album ostensibly about her struggles with fame it hits so hard, especially as a contrast to midnight rain because she sort of is able to carve out this quiet domestic life that she felt she was giving up by choosing her life

one of my favorite lines in sweet nothing is “you’re in the kitchen humming” because it continues the motif throughout her entire discography about kitchens being such a sacred and pivotal space in her life and her relationships: ”barefoot in the kitchen sacred new beginnings” / “i’m here on the kitchen floor” / “dancing in the kitchen in the refrigerator light” and the whole kitchen fight scene in the atw short film. and then additionally it’s so loaded because food/cooking in general have brought her both happiness and self-care (which she just talked about in the ina garten tribute) as well as a lot of pain and self-destruction obviously. and then to have this place filled with so much complex pain and memories being a symbol of peaceful, steady love is so wonderful <3

The Sandman Audio Book Chapter #16 Lost Hearts

And then she woke up.

What a powerful episode, and what hard work done to earn that line. “I suppose there are worse endings.” There truly are, Rose could have died! But beyond that despite being cheated out of an entire life Unity did get to wake up, and find her family, and be around people who cared for her at the very end. Plus she got to save one of those people. How sweet.

Gilbert going to save save rose!!!! I die! “I don’t think I can save her, but I can hope and pray.” RIP Fiddler’s Green. A beautiful display of love him teller her to sleep under his trees. I hope we get more of Gilbert, but I really liked this beautiful location appearing in the Dreaming.

I also like that the Raven was like “okay I’m in.” And went with Gilbert to help.

Morpheus got some good play in this episode. The VA really got to play around with his regret for what he has to do. Last episode I wasn’t so much mad with Morpheus as I was with Neil, but he clearly regrets fucking up and losing an entire planet once. So him killing Rose is duty, and we get it. Everyone in the scene gets it, no one really tries to stop him…

Except Unity Kinkaid!

May I just say, what a ass pull. Is there any foreshadowing at all that Unity was supposed to be the vortex? Did the witches say something about it, did Desire in his castle? I can’t think of anything. Which is not to say I hate it, I like Unity saving Rose, being young in her dream, and saving the day. It was a bit anticlimactic. “Ah…wut happen!”

“You died, everything is saved.”

“Dope.”

I love her just saying. “This is a dream, it doesn’t have to make sense.” So true.

I’m sure when I read this issue in a few minutes it’ll be visually satisfying, but the audio of the moment was a little weak, and this is a review of the audio book. At least put a little music in there.

Rose her mother and her brother move into a house. She decides to write her own happy ending to her story rather than wallow in the strife of the universe, I love that… we’ll see how long that lasts. Rose doesn’t know she’s a comic book character. Gwen Stacy has been dead for like forty years and still hasn’t found any rest.

We also get to hear Dream’s philosophy on himself and his family. Which is that they serve humanity. Eh, we’ll see.

We get this insight because he too thinks Unity being the vortex came out of nowhere and he accuses desire of being the person who raped sleeping Unity, and that Rose is their blood. The melodrama is in full swing now!

Ken and Barbie split. The spider ladies buy the house from Hal who moves out west. Probably good for the drag queen to escape Florida while the gettings good. At least he found someone!

Barbie goes weird? Read as: Barbie will return in the future.

Random Thoughts:

I just want to say how good the voice acting is in this ep. Especially the exchanges between Gilbert and Dream. It’s a tense exchange and everyone is great.

Rose’s mom was born in England, raised in Seattle, lives in Boston, has a Jersey accent. A woman of the world.

Rose is friends with the freaking girl from the dinner, I want to die. As if that chapter wasn’t traumatic enough, now we get to see how it’s traumatized the loved ones of the event as well. What fun. That is my favorite chapter of the story so far, and I’ve really been wanting some kind of closure to it. Hoping that this is a hint of some kind of healing.

My big swing for the fences prediction:

Desire mentions a lost sibling, and an abandoned domain. Rose is now revealed to be on the endless family tree. I suspect she becomes an endless at some point and becomes the ruler of that real. Discipline? Duty? Diaries?

Only time will tell.

In the end great, touching chapter. Well worth the anguish I felt over the last one. In the end our lives change just as much as our dreams. These pains and nightmares are out of our control, but we can choose how we deal with the pains, and how we decide to think about our stories. And if we’re lucky we get to wake up from them, even if it’s only long enough to make a single connection.

I finally did it!!

Here are the parallels from The Millionaire Detective Balance: Unlimited and The Devil Judge.

Disclaimer:

The focus in the post is on the two pairs of main characters in the shows. This means I’m mostly comparing the four only and not the other characters. It doesn’t mean I’m not paying attention to the rest of the characters. You’ll see what I mean later.

You will see I don’t compare Yohan and Daisuke as much as Haru and Gaon but that’s because there’s a lot if I try to pick everything up.

So, let’s start off with the very first episodes.

Pretty obvious one we got here. Both Gaon and Haru are the type to throw themselves in front of danger to protect others.

Both civil servants who became one to serve justice to people. Although Gaon might’ve become a judge due to Sunah’s scheme, it’s evident that he does his job for this purpose.

Next up is food.

I have to say this is my favorite parallel out of the ones I will mention. The domesticity here cannot be ignored.

If we compare the whole context it might be a bit different. But the point is that Daisuke and Yohan’s eating habits are now changed—Daisuke eats what he despised before and Yohan eats home cooked meals and no longer alone and it’s thanks to their “colleagues”.

Now let’s dive into the plots—a third person being suspicious of the main protagonists. This is understandable considering both Yohan and Daisuke are ambitious and will do anything to get their way and are capable of doing so.

It’s quite difficult to compare these due to the difference in the amount of plot that has progressed when each of them happened.

When this happened in the Devil Judge, we(both the viewers and the characters) have learnt little to nothing about Yohan. Gaon’s impression of Yohan was solely based on Min Jungho’s. This is why we don’t see much opposition from him on the matter. Although he questions his professor why he sees Yohan that way, we all know Min Jungho had too much influence on Gaon to refuse him.

In FKBU, Haru has already seen what Daisuke is like(to some extent). Although Daisuke’s ways of solving cases are questionable, Haru believes that he means no harm and that Daisuke had reasons for his actions. So, we see Haru not quite wanting to look into this how Takei asked him to.

Since the following set of scenes are actually different from one another, I almost didn’t add these as parallels but it’s too interesting to be left out.

FKBU:

Here, Haru was still not given a clear answer if Daisuke was the one who controlled the car, but he believes he has a reason. He’s trying to get Daisuke to talk to him because he doesn’t want to just spy on him.

He now knows Daisuke was indeed the one who controlled the car but has yet to learn the reason.

The Devil Judge:

Gaon is almost sure the one who’s causing Min Jungho all those inconvenience wasn’t Yohan’s doing.

Although Gaon’s faith in Yohan is sort of wavering at this point, he still wants to believe Yohan is not the kind of person Min Jungho makes him to be.

So, here, the obvious similarity is that Haru/Gaon has faith in Daisuke/Yohan.

The difference is Haru tells Daisuke that he has faith in him and that he truly wants to know what all this matter is, while Gaon will not say anything about trusting Yohan in front of him and accuses him for things. Gaon defends Yohan behind his back, but communication is the key and Gahan is definitely not using it.

Both Haru and Gaon lost important people of their lives. Both of them are desperate to find someone to blame it on and all the things they went through just lead them to blaming Daisuke and Yohan.

The intensities of their realizations that the other wasn’t wrong do not match, but both of them reached a state of regret(of which their intensities differ).
