“Oh,” Izuku coos, pointing ahead at a little french bulldog walking towards you, “look how cute. Can we stop and say hi?”
Despite the grumbling of your stomach and the chill overtaking the apples of your cheeks and the tip of your nose, you can’t bring yourself to say no to Izuku — you never can. He has your hand clasped in his own, beaming at you with this cute eager expression, an infectious sparkle in his pretty green eyes. “Of course we can!”
He leads you up the sidewalk in an instant, dragging you along behind him, but refusing to let go of your hand. He’s charming as he greets the older woman, and after a moment of friendly conversation, the question you know has been on the tip of his tongue finally breaks free. “Do you mind if we say hi?”
“Oh, go ahead dearie! He’s friendly.”
Izuku squats down immediately, gingerly holding his hand in the little gray bundle’s direction. The puppy sniffs him for half of a second before he’s hopping onto his legs, attacking his fingers with little kisses and snuffles. You learn that his name is Munchkin and that his favorite food is peanut butter.
“Munchkin,” Izuku’s voice pitches up into what you can only describe as baby talk as he rubs and scratches behind his ears and along the white patch of fur on his belly. “The cutest little man in the world.”
Your heart skips a beat when Izuku looks up at you from his spot on the sidewalk, a grin plastered on his face and an adorable little chortle coming from his mouth when Munchkin licks his cheek. “Come say hi, sweetheart. Isn’t he so cute?”
You squat beside him and start to pet the puppy’s head. He slobbers onto your hands and wiggles his whole butt with all of the attention he’s getting. Izuku was right — he is so cute. A few more minutes pass and you make small talk with Munchkin’s owner, Izuku babbling to the puppy in the background. Finally, reluctantly, you drag yourself to stand.
“We’ll let you go,” you say, offering her a friendly smile. “Thank you for letting us say hello!”
“Have a nice morning, you two.”
“Thank you!” Izuku offers the duo big wave before taking your hand again. As you walk, he pulls you close to plant a wet smooch against your temple. “Sorry, baby. I know you’re hungry.”
You shrug, heart feeling warm as you think about Izuku’s laugh and the bright way he smiled up at you, the puppy in his arms. “’s okay. I like seeing the cute dogs, too.”
Walking around the city with Izuku always turns into an adventure with how he takes detours through the park and follows mindless paths down the street just to see as many dogs as he can. A simple walk to the store or home from dinner can sometimes take twice as long, but with each dog you encounter, you see a brighter, sweeter version of Izuku (if that was even possible). And as you sit at a table outside, Izuku waving at another dog resting under the seat behind you, you make a mental note to see if your schedules would allow for a dog of your own.

I get paid to write things. I've also done many television appearances.
I have many published articles under my belt.
I was paid to insult a major politician in a major UK newspaper.
I am, for all intents and purposes, a writer.
So tell me why it took me writing a 20k+ word homoerotic kink fanfiction about a broken wet dog of a man and a horny cannibal, at the age of bloody 35, for me to go, "Huh... Maybe I could be a writer."

God, I love BellHands. This ship does not exist. Sam is not in this show. He will probably never be in this show. If he is, he probably won’t look like Jemaine Clement or Matt Berry or Rahul Kohli or any of our fanart. He almost definitely won’t be Izzy’s long-lost husband or newfound love or childhood friend or old rival. There is absolutely no basis for any of this. There are novel-length fanfics. There are common tropes and shared fanon. There are three pages on AO3. That’s more than there are for Izzy with some canon characters. This ship does not exist. This is a shared fever dream. This is our OTP.

I'm also gonna defend Darlin here because while the shade thing Milo did before their meeting may not have caused anything but legal repercussions for the pack, him going against Department regulation during the Inversion and zapping himself to get the ward taken down was INCREDIBLY stupid and DEFINITELY could have endangered the pack, and yet again he received not even a cursory "hey we got lucky but that could have been super bad for both you and all of us!"
The truth is that Milo had absolutely no way of knowing what the situation in the ward was or how many shades were in there; fortunately there were enough empowered people outside to take down the rest of the shades but VERY VERY EASILY those people could have been overwhelmed and a shit ton of shades could have escaped into Dahlia and killed thousands of innocent people!
And no that didn't happen. But guess what else didn't happen! QUINN ATTACKING THE PACK! These are both characters whose impulse to take care of a dangerous situation themselves COULD HAVE harmed people they care about, but in NEITHER case did that happen
So why is Darlin the only one who gets publicly chewed out for it? And even worse, if Milo was getting a pack talking to, it would be his family who he loves and he knows cares about him calling him a dumbass. David had Darlin stand up in a room full of people they don't know very well and think don't care about them and let those people go off on them for a HYPOTHETICAL DANGER THAT DIDN'T EVEN AFFECT THE PACK AT ALL IN THE END
THANK YOU.
SOMEONE GETS IT.
There's some deep-threaded favoritism in this pack and it's not always obvious but when it is, no one wants to talk about it!
See how many people in this argument are defending Milo and downplaying his actions and therefore the consequences of those actions because of the way he's characterized and how his story is told and continuing to prove my point.
While yes, there are valid points to defend Milo and I will concede to those, at the same time why is your first reaction to defend him rather than seeing things from Darlin's perspective?
Hm. Interesting.

Not gonna lie... I actually like the theory of Psychubes being Vertin's creations as the time goes on and on...
But the question is...
When a (high level) psychube is equipped on a character... Does that means that Vertin give the painting to them or is it another way around?
In my orginal theory, I was thinking along the lines of Vertin being influenced by her crew member, makes a painting based on her experiences with them, and then gives them it to buff their powers.
With the knowledge I have now, I'd say it's probably more like an in idea/thought inspired by that person in the picture that left a strong impression on her. The images on the Psychubes are like fragments of dreams that can be seen on-screen in artificial somnambulism.
For example, this is how puppy appears and what she stands for. This is the impression she left on Vertin and we can see her clearly in the picture unlike the lower tier ones.
Tumblr media
That being said, from how it works in combat it must be an idea or concept Vertin applies to her crew member. Its like having a clear thought as opposed to an abstract one you're barely grasping. That's also why Psychubes relevant to character (what they actually do stat wise) is an important part of combat. You need to have the right plan and the right person to really make it work.
More Psychube theories no one asked below the break . I like to overshare so thanks for giving me an opportunity!
Theory 1: The same way Sonetto has to find lines in poems, Vertin has to create a clear mental picture of the idea/concept in order to further buff her team. It's why we have two free daily pnuema analysis to "collect" psychubes and thoughts needed to build them up.
Theory 2: Weak Psychubes are the "unstable" ones because they tend to link directly with Vertin's trauma and negative past experiences. The Strong ones are the ones that reflect the crew's influence on her keep her from falling back into suffering said trauma. For example, Druvis is all about rebirth and the acceptance of change. Sonetto is about diligence and duty. Sotheby is about curiosity.
If you leave Vertin to think to hard by herself you get Psychubes reflecting plants, animals, and objects. Many are either bitter or bittersweet.
You know what's wild though?
Tumblr media
They can just...check it. They can pinpoint Psychubes fluctuations?? Without equipment ?? This was right before they met Schneider and they beat up the two drunks who wandered into the eventual crime scene. Maybe they have a spell to check or something?
This is part of the reason I thought they were physical things. Like Vertin's paintings have arcanum in them and that's where you sensed the "fluctuations" but I was wrong.

so fun fact for my public speaking class this year I had to give a speech on something I'm passionate about and why it's important to my entire class so I did mine on falsettos (slideshow attached)
"When most people think of a musical, they think of big jazz hands and kicklines and cheesy plots. What they are unaware of is how a musical can be much more than that. While big dance numbers are entertaining, music can be used to convey deep emotions and stories that just can’t be translated through regular words. Because of this, Falsettos is one of the most important musicals of our decade. It touched on topics most people in its time wouldn’t even talk about, let alone make a musical on. William Finn and James Lapine, its writers, were able to remind us that families can be much more complicated and deep than a husband, wife, and 2.5 kids. A lot of people don’t live inside that norm, yet it’s the primary one that is represented. Then you get a show like this, which explores conceited parents, difficult love stories, coming to terms with things that are hard, and coming of age. All of these are relatable topics. In this speech, we’ll get into the history, the characters, and the representation in Falsettos. “Love can tell a million stories.” This is the main idea of the show. Because there really are countless different ways a family can be. The show has some trigger warnings: AIDS, death, abuse, somewhat sexual scenes, and cursing. Also, spoilers ahead!
First, we’ll get into the history. The creation of Falsettos is rather unique compared to other musicals. It was originally a trilogy of three one-act, off-broadway musicals, all created by William Finn. All the shows take place in New York City, in the late 70s to early 80s. They center around Marvin, and him exploring his sexual identity. This is mostly what In Trousers (1978) focuses on, and how the women in his life helped him accept that. It was critically acclaimed as a flop, largely based on the topic it portrayed in its era. In the second installment, March of the Falsettos (1981), Marvin’s partner Whizzer gets more involved, and this act focuses on how their relationship affects Marvin’s ex-wife Trina and child Jason. Finally, in Falsettoland (1990), the dynamics of the family are shown much more, especially with Trina and Marvin planning Jason’s bar mitzvah. In 1992, the last two one-acts were combined into one full length show, simply titled Falsettos. (This was nominated for seven Tony awards that year!) The show had a broadway revival in 2016, which spread its popularity (and also what I’ll be referencing here). Also, the history behind the name of the musical is fascinating as well; According to a 2019 interview with SFist, Finn says he was “inspired by the idea of the falsetto — a man singing in his head voice outside his range — as a metaphor for people who exist ‘outside the normal range.’”
Next, the characters. Almost every character is a primary one, but the main character is arguably Marvin. He’s a possessive and insensitive man. He left his wife and child after realizing he wants to be with a man named Whizzer. He’s not exactly a good father and wasn’t a loving husband, but over the course of the play, his character development is prevalent and interesting to watch. Second, Whizzer is Marvin’s live-in boyfriend. According to Marvin, Whizzer is “delightful, stylish, and romantic,” but also “spiteful, sorta-kinda mean, and evil.” Marvin and Whizzer’s relationship is pretty toxic, but improves. Alternatively, there’s also Trina, Marvin’s ex-wife. She’s often described as insecure. A lot of her conflict is her coming to terms with Marvin and Whizzer’s relationship. Trina and Marvin’s son, Jason, is 10 years old, and thinks he is “too smart for his own good, and too good for his sorry little life.” Friendless, he plays chess all day, and has anger management problems. Finally, there is Mendel, the family psychiatrist. He was Marvin’s long-term therapist, but after Marvin insists Trina sees him too, Mendel immediately falls in love with her. Mendel honestly is kind of manipulative, but also a fun character to watch onstage. There’s also Charlotte and Cordelia, the “lesbians from next door.” They’re close family friends, and godparents to Jason. A large part of it is showing how real people behave, including the good and the ugly.
Now into how they’re all important as representation. The main theme is the various family dynamics and relationships- most of us can see aspects of our own families within the characters and plot. For example, in my own family my parents divorced then found new partners or remarried later and I have good friendships with them. First, there are three different types of gendered relationships as shown: a straight relationship, a gay relationship, and a lesbian relationship. Oftentimes in the media, the only kinds of relationships that are shown are straight ones. And for them to all be parents in some sort of way to Jason is even more important- it’s showing queer parents can be good ones too, which is a misconception many people hold (this is, that lgbtq+ parents are inadequate). Second, Falsettos touches on the AIDS crisis, which Whizzer contracts and later dies from. During the ‘80s it was a very big problem but now next to no one talks about it. How it’s portrayed in the show represents how it affected real families and people. Third, Jewish households. This year we all were able to read Night, which showed what Jewish people went through during the holocaust, but not what regular cultural home life is like. One of the main plot points is about Jason’s bar mitzvah, and how he’s not sure if he wants one or not. Jewish expectations and customs are brought up throughout the whole show.
To conclude, Falsettos is a fantastic installment to musical theater. It has original history, complex characters, and overall is an amazing testament to different types of American families. Not only that, its music and book are award winning, according to Broadwayworld.com. And this speech is really only the tip of the iceberg–there’s much, much more to it. Falsettos is definitely the musical you’ve been looking for!"
