ngl even though i’m literally bawled up in the fetal position crying over “I hate who I am” i see the script as a win from mikes pov at least.
he was confused and DISAPPOINTED whenever will said that the painting was a commission from el. he was disappointed it was from his girlfriend. now why would that be? maybe… if he was actually really hoping it was from will. which it is, he just doesn’t know that yet.
he was also confused because… it just doesn’t make sense for el to commission that painting, out of all things. like- what would she know about dnd?
“now it’s mike who doesn’t get it”… because pretty much everything will said doesn’t apply to el. el wasn’t pushing him away, or afraid of loosing him, or really even mean to him. those all do, however, apply to will. that’s why mike doesn’t get it.
then finally “thanks, i needed that.” mike needed will words. wills encouragement. wills love. that was all will. and i really do feel this painting will be brought up again in season 5, especially due to how many the created and how much thought was put into it. they wouldn’t have done that for this just one scene.
it’s going to be brought up again. and once mike realizes it was all will, the pieces will finally click together.

talk about the new order elegy (goddard, rand, volta, and chomsky)
goddard: i really enjoyed reading goddard’s orgin story in gleanings. his story gave goddard a great foundation and backstory as a character, and made him really more compelling of a villian. while rereading the series, it was really interesting to see how xenocrates regretted taking him on as an apprentice in the first book. xenocrates is just as bad as goddard imo, but by the end of thunderhead you just feel bad for him honestly. goddard just broke him.
rand: i definitely did not appreciate rand as a character until my second reading of the series where i found a lot more depth in her character. i think she’s really interesting, especially considering all the parallels she has with scythe curie (both causing turmoil in the scythedom at young ages, had crushes on their mentors, etc). they are really similar characters yet just it two very different situations. also, similar to how curie wanted faraday’s approval as a junior scythe, perhaps rand’s behavior and beliefs also stems from a need for goddard’s approval/attention. the two have an unbalanced relationship, and no doubt goddard manipulated her during her apprenticeship.
chomsky: ok honestly i have no thought abt chomsky. i’ve always found him to a be a pretty one-dimensional character. idk… i just don’t vibe w him. if you have any chomsky thoughts please let me know bc i don’t.
volta: i LOVE volta. i think my favorite thing abt volta is that his mentor scythe wasn’t even new order (originally). his mentor scythe was scythe nehru, who wasn’t even apart of the new order until AFTER volta’s death. so volta pretty much sided with goddard and the new order on his own, which he ended up regretting of course.

The Star Wars Book That Broke Me- The Rising Storm Review
Tumblr media
Introduction
It's been a long time since I reviewed a High Republic novel on my tumblr but I have to just have to talk about this novel. Loved reading a Test Of Courage and Into The Dark but at suggested in the title, this novel broke me in all the best ways possible. My brother is moaning at me for taking so long to get through Phase 1 but after reading The Rising Storm I totally think that for my emotional wellbeing it's definitely best to take it all in at a slower. The novel was tense throughout but that ending man. As of this review I'm onto my 6th main read of 2024 and I'm still not over it. I don't think I'll ever be. For those who've read the novel you know.
Star Wars is mainly targeted for kids but I love how their still able to make really emotional and heavy books for adult fans too. Whilst Light Of The Jedi is the perfect introduction to the era of The High Republic, The Rising Storm is the perfect introduction to the stakes and how destructive the Nihil are. We get to see the cost of War and Violence. I was shocked at how tense and high stakes this novel was. Trust me none of your favourites are safe when it comes to The High Republic. It makes a nice change as the orginal two movies in the OT don't allow you to focus on death very much.
I also felt like the new characters fit in very well and didn't feel unesssacary. Nearly all the reviews I read insulted the inclusion of characters like the chancellors son and the workers at the fair but I thought they were all nesscary compared to Aftermath where you get an interlude of two people randomly fighting in a street. I'm also just really grateful that the writers of Project Luminous have clearly planned and communicated with each other.
Tumblr media
What I Liked
Everything! I seriously did not think it could get any better than Light Of The Jedi but it has. Not only did is pass my expectations it exceeded them, it also in my personal opinion improved heavily on some people's criticisms of Light Of The Jedi. I also think all the povs are sewen perfectly together through the narrative of a single goal. I'm also really excited to pick up more of Cavan Scott's books now.
There's so much I could talk about and analyse when it comes to this gem of a novel but I'll do my best to trim down my praise to the three best aspects of this incredibly action packed novel.
First I have to praise the incredible character arcs throughout the novel. Cavan Scott manages to pick off from where we left some of out characters from Light Of The Jedi to the point you can't even tell there's been a change in writer. Elzar, Stellan, Ty, Lina Soh, Bell, Lourna, Pan and Marchion are just some of the many characters that grow throughout the novel really well. It's an impressive achievement in itself since the adult high republic novels love to include such a large cast of characters. Every character felt like they had reason to be there and like they made a difference to the story. There was also brilliantly foreshadowing in earlier parts of the novel to where some of the characters might end up. Out of all of the character arcs through Bell and Elzar's arcs definitely hit home the most as it is important to remember that asking for help isn't shameful as well as reaching out to others when grieving. The character development is the glue of this book and it really does pay off if you've read Light Of The Jedi.
Secondly the stakes. I dreaded putting this book down everyday due to how much danger Cavan manages to put our core cast through. If you had me attached me to a heart monitor whilst I was reading this novel you'd see it stay spiked up throughout. Whilst Light Of The Jedi gave the reader time to breathe the opposite can be said for The Rising Storm and I think that's what made this such an enjoyable read. This book is none stop action from start to finish and absolutely intense, from people backstabbing each other, villians that don't know when to stop and suprises that even shocked me. It's all like one big massive game of chess. Whilst Light Of The Jedi introduced us to several characters and made us feel attached to the High Republic era as a whole, The Rising Storm makes you get attached to all the characters and then makes you worry for their lives every five seconds. I promise you that I'm not exaggerating. Worst is that some of those characters do indeed die. This book does not play it safe at all and shows you just how deadly the villians are. A good action or war story should build up suspense and high stakes and Rising Storm does that very well. Nobody is safe at all! Expect to be emotionally destroyed.
Finally The Multi-POV narrative. I know a lot of people don't like this aspect and that the bombardment of characters ruined but for me it had the complete opposite effect.  The High Republic writes in a multi-pov style that adds to the mystery and intense action. Through the fast pacing of chapters and sudden pov switches Scott communicates not only the danger but also the chaos of the situation. It showed the wide scale conflict of the story and how intense things get. You could be with one character fighting on the ground before you instantly cut to the chaos in the skies. And some of the pov cuts are actually necessary.  I want Fallen Star to be happy but judging on the title alone probably not so I hope Claudia keeps the similar style Cavan nailed in Rising Storm.
This was an awesome sequel and is well worth your time. I'd talk about Dislikes but I don't have any so I'm instead going to dive into spoiler territory. Once you scroll past and get to a headline called conclusion that's how you'll know you've avoided the spoiler section.
Tumblr media
Spoiler Discussion
That last sentence still haunts me, "For the first time Stellan Gios was afraid." It's a gut punch that adds further salt to the wound. The other character deaths still hurt but Loden Greatstorm's death was on a whole other level. Throughout the novel Cavan has made the reader go through several death scares to the point you think that Loden and Bell really are going to stay reunited.
The Nameless are the most terrifying and inventive villian ever made and I can't wait for the next appearance as I go through Phase 1. I didn't think it would be possible for the jedi to struggle so much when there's no Sith in The High Republic but oh boy I was wrong. These mother f*** literally can turn force users into pure dust and lure them into agonising visions. Ro unleashing them is so scary to think about. I felt super bad for Loden and the Nihil member Dis. The way it was written showed how brutal the creatures are. The Nameless make Palpatine look like a wolf. The Nameless are like burn blazing dragons. Heartbroken over Lodens death but these guys are like dope.
Finally I have to how ironic is the way Lourna, Pan Eyta and Marchion all turn on eachother and back stab. Even with a new Tempest Runner replacing Kassav in the mix those three were literally giving each other hell throughout the novel. Marchion is so cold and threatening whilst Pan is cocky, egotistical and blood thirsty. It'll be interesting to read how his character grows now he's "faked" his death and fled. Even Lourna knew staying loyal to him was a bad idea. I'm really looking forward to read how the Nihil develop and change as threats.
That's the spoiler discussion.
Conclusion
A perfect sequel to Light Of The Jedi that not only expands on the threat of the Nihil but also raises the stakes perfectly. This story is an absolute master piece and manages to work so well despite the odds stacked against it.
It's both slow and fast at the same time and a breath of fresh air when it comes to the Star Wars Books I have picked up so far. This is another Star Wars that's gonna be on Reread as frequencantly as possible.
As of phase 1 I know Cavan also wrote the audio drama Tempest Runner and I'm definitely excited for when I get to that. His writings brilliant and he absolutely has got me hooked. If I like Tempest Runner, I'll perhaps consider reading and listening to Dooku Jedi Lost as well.
High Republic is the goat and I'm loving it.

I finished the book last week and recently watched the movie so I can finally have an opinion on the new Hunger Games! The book is really good. It felt like a bit of a deconstruction of dystopian teen romances and villian orgin stories. If he was anybody else, it would have been easy to write Coriolanus as the standard privileged protag who becomes a better person through his contact and romance with a spunky girl from the oppressed class. But that isn’t the story the novel wanted to tell. It was a very interesting look into the mind of someone obsessed with the optics of being a good person without actually making any effort for introspection.
My opinion on the movie is a little less complimentary. I thought it was pretty well cast (though Sejanus was more ruggedly handsome than I had personally imagined him which was odd to see), but so much of the story and character is lost when you condense 500 pages into less than 3hrs. It also has the same problem the original Hunger Games films had. Both Coriolanus and Katniss were unreliable narrators in the novels, we only see characters from their point of view and get to know them through their own internal monologue. So that means in the films we don’t always get how Katniss can’t trust in the goodness of anyone around her, how obsessive and possessive Coriolanus is while still maintaining outward charm and charisma. To me, the movies act better as supplementary material to someone who enjoyed the books rather than a good stand alone film.

So this is the creation of the spiders it all started with a single death of a childhood friend. So they all made a fucking murder pack with each other. Which lead to them becoming one of the deadliest groups. Shit, we even get a glimpse of how Machi learned to do what she does but to the living.
So from Nobunga words clearly they lost their way, they were meant to be "heros". But got corrupted along the way. An either killed Kurapika entire clan for power or was complacent and accomplices to their death to gain power.
After they got older its clear they said fuck the world and the world answered back no fuck you. Gon in all his hardships never morphed his abolsulte shitty hand into his villian orgin story. I feel bad for child chrollo cause if you look at metero city it is a fucking nightmare. An no wonder Hisoka and Chrollo are so feared. I would be scared to if a city that was basically a bunch of tent stuck together and a large ass forest full of dead kids. Produced some of the most unhinged fucking nenusers. Those type of condition not even the zoldyck could't reproduce.
An instead of holding out hope to do the best Chrollo fell to despair. He wants to kill hisoka because it like the little girl all over again.
I still hate Chrollo cause Kurapika is my bby, but having someone more deadly molly woop your group. Because you misunderstood how this was going to go down. You can ride this high horse of we are better our plans are better (our shoes are better) and not think your gonna get pushed back down. Thats all Hisoka really did now that I think about it. He made them feel like powerless childern again. By taking out two of their own.

random ideas I had for stories/might apply to story: just wanna put my thoughts down. YAY IDEAS!!
-isekai, except it’s revealed that the gods have been purposefully killing people in order to send them to act as “heroes” to thier world
=subpoint-ish to above, can act as it’s own thing: the gods have been actively targeting vulnerable people to entice them to stay in the world they’ve been isekaied to
-isekai, except that one of the members is a “failed” chosen one, and when the villian tempts them to go home they very much consider it. But they stop. Why? Oh, n on ono. they fucking hate this land. They hate the countries, the flith, the unfamiliarity, they miss thier home. They didn’t stop because they liked you. They stopped because whatever plan the villian had would kill a vast majority of people, and the fallen hero has moral standards
=alternatively, after villian is defeated, hero and villian bond over the fact that they hate some parts of the world. Sometimes it’s good to have someone you an hate things with together. (kind of.)
=isekai villian is revealed to have been also a former failed chosen one, who decided that if they can’t go home, then they should make the best of thier situation....by taking it out on the world that they’re trapped in currently.
=the gods are dicks. sort of. at first, the more “villianous” gods used puppets/vessels to wreack havoc and the opposing gods felt it was unfair for. a god to decimate a mortal so they sent someone in theri place, but now there’s been this long standing ‘nuetrality’. None of the gods will get invovled directly anymore. if they get invovled, then so will the other ones.
=idea or take on isekaied kid/teen who is scared out of there nerves, gets approached by the villian and with his useage of clever words and appeals to the scared youth leading him to estienally doom the world he’s stuck in. //I’ve written something like this before as an “what-if”scenario for another person’s story. It’s a bit dated and some characters are horribly ooc due to new info and some are already ooc already due to, again: new information that shifts thier reasoning and morals. I will ramble about it here though. because i fucking can. also i’ve never shared it publicly aside from one person and no im not gonna name the story cause if word gets out im writiin fuckin fics gets to the author im going to die of shame.
==MINI OFF-COURSE RAMBLE: Scenario I wrote was set at least multiple years or long enough for the main protag to gain the second mcguffin from what is an embodiment of light. It’s not stated outright, but there are enough implications i left that the embodiment of light lied to the protagonist about knowing how to send him home--not to mention said embodiment is a murderous psycho--leads to some very not nice things. Protagonist also is residing in a dead person’s body (which they have managed to ignore, but another side character that knew the dead person looks down on them and sees them as jjust lesser than thier deceased friend). There is also a myrad of courrption in the place they’re staying at, they cannot go home, and are incorrectly hailed as a chosen one for the world. The protag feels isolated, and could not reach out for a long time, causing desperation and decent amounts of resentment to build. When the embodiment of darkness rolls around, protag is expecting to be murdered but are instead offered a deal, and for the first time in almost years, they have someone that says the things they’ve wanted to say gave them the things they wanted to hear, and actually...respected them. I was orginally going to end it on an ambigious note on whether protag accepted, but I wanted to write imagery so bad and at the end, protag accepts the deal. (he does actually get sent back and not killed, but i never included that part.) i mostly wrote that story cause the idea was in me head and while writing i had a whole bunch of scenes pop up in my head //which in part contributed to the ooc-ness of the characters but hey! it was prettyyy fun. haha. so much pain.
--ill probably make another one of these whenever these ideas pop up and decide to stab me again AUGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH BYE

Firstly, this whole first part here is stupid and slight weird to others. but i had this toilet thoughts which is like a shower thoughts.
it actually started with me, literally started to debate on if i want to continue watching ducktales 2017 reboot. because of a person giving out good points about the show.
then i started pointing out the fact, if its true or if i'm bad with memory but they mention the show is literally based off the comics that carl barks, don rosa, and likely others made. with the 1987 (if it's true too.) as (um??) a guild or the huge part with their characters and everything they did there. (i seen a little of the orginal show before jumping into the reboot. and i seem part of the comic posts from other fans that shared. and seen one season of ducktales 2017.) this is my thoughts and opinions first.
okay, that was first toilet thought before pointing out characters in the show. and say if the was base of the comics. they could easily used the personality of the characters were in the past disney duck comics. you know, huey dewey, louie, scrooge and donald. and other villians who were there.
take that and add in the adventures from either the comics or the 87 show that they take from. and mix it up. they could base of the adventure and the family to the 87 show. where they still go out, but still have heart to heart. or take that from the duck comics. or third option that they could mix the two and they still have the same?? result.
then this continue and drifted to della and webby. like how they did della like boasted her up at the beginning and then did that after she left earth, shows that didn't have like trauma or nightmares about her experiences from the moon. like it was nothing. i wish they did this, where they do the same right. like boasted her up and when she gotten home then, take that make like seem exicted to be back to her family. but pretend nothing is wrong until boom! she has flashback of her experiences... or experience one thing different like a vs, when i was on the moon vs when i'm on earth. (not great with trauma telling or giving to the characters or how they would deal with it) or have della experience nightmares about her 10 year away and had to survive. like have her a weak spot in her character. which she struggle to keep it hiden. then the family have a heart to heart about her getting help.
then having webby be like social awkward or anti-social, maybe fear in the dark (which i like that part from an ao3 fanficition author. the story is good. i will send a link to the story after this but it's like 56?? chapters and its uncomplete.) like have her a weakness that gets her in trouble. also remove the point twist of her being scrooge's clone with daisy nieces, april, may and june. and the original plan where she's just herself and without any point twist connection of being blood related. that just shame or spit on those who aren't blood related to a family that takes care of them.
with personality, like i said before have them on base their comic selves but then i know that ducktales staff wants her to be a strong woman with no weakness, which make her a mary sue. and if she does then no point them out. like "but della, you do have weak side." or whatever way to write it. like if they want strong woman, you have to have her base on real strong women and strong women pilots. but not extreme toxic feminist on the character. (i'm a girl behind this account if those didn't know) and i don't know how to explain that about webby but, i would (um?) try to do the same but soften it abit.
then if the show goes the same way, i want a character within the family, like how (i didn't watch it fully but heard it from people) in quack pack ep, with donald telling how he feels. but instead have like maybe exact same character, donald, probably. call someone out on the big problem with the family. you know like have donald be the voice of reason to the family. or when they solving or figuring out have the iconic duck point, or call out the conflict.
finally, we made it to the end, but like this is my thoughts on the what the show can do if it was different. remove all big name references from 80s/90s shows from disney. and have it like single quote, or pictures of so call character. like example (my thoughts), where the so call pictures of maybe donald's old friends are hanged in his houseboat.
