Thor and Loki: Double Trouble reactions
I have already read the last issue of this miniseries. I picked it up at a comic book store on vacation a couple years back, and refused to wait to read it until I could get my hands on the rest of the story.
Spoilers for Thor and Loki: Double Trouble
I'm reading Thor's lines in Travis Willingham's voice.
"I can summon lightning. Which no one else here can do." Bitch your DAD can do that! Shut up
"But you can call me The god of mischief who is amazing." Okay I will. (I'm making another Quotes that Make Me Feral post, I can feel it.)
Are they about to break into a rendition of "Loathing" from Wicked?
If Loki thought he could get away with it without getting pummeled, he'd for sure try Lucy's trick with the football on Thor. (He'd succeed but he can't outrun Mjolnir.)
You had TWO of them Loki??? And you named them fuckin Jormungandr and MILDRED??
Loki! Stop seducing your daughter! Or your... son's... half-sister? I don't know, something's incesty in a way I don't approve of.
Tumblr media
NOT LOKI TRYING LITERALLY HIS OLDEST TRICK! IT WORKS ON THOR (did it even work on Thor really, though?) BUT THAT'S ABOUT IT, DUMMY
Tumblr media
Fuck this panel's very cute.
Tumblr media
THOR WHAT DID YOU THINK WAS GOING TO HAPPEN??!!
Thor fucking SMELLS A ROCK and that's how he knows they're on Jotunheim??!! What the fuck??!!
Tumblr media
Oh my god I need Thor to say this to him in the MCU at some point. Like at this point with the end of the show it's not exactly fair to Loki but I still want Thor to say it because it's hilarious.
Tumblr media
PFFT I've got news for you!
Tumblr media
I am very biased. MY GIRL <3
What gets me about this comic is NEITHER Thor nor Loki is surprised or confused or disturbed or whatever that their variants (I'm gonna just use show language for them) are women/men (in the case of the variants). Which (that stupid exchange in the show aside) makes sense for CANONICALLY genderfluid Loki. (I'm aware variants of different genders does not qualify genderfluidity. BELIEVE ME, I know. But if you're already a man or a woman yourself at various points, it makes sense why you wouldn't bat an eye to a woman or man version of yourself.) But Thor has never been established to be genderfluid. So I just think it's cool that he's more surprised that there's another version of him just in general, but doesn't really acknowledge the fact that the variant is a different gender (in theory. Is Double Trouble Thor genderfluid??).
Tumblr media
THIS PANEL THOUGH, MY DARLINGS!
UGH, Lokis stop flirting with each other! I'm not surprised (and I would be flirting with both of you), we just have stuff to do.

Ok so i don't ship lokius or sylki and I dislike both of the ships (for different reasons) and I still think that ppl should be allowed to ship what they want without being hated on by others (as long as they aren't intentionally tagging the other ships just to annoy ppl)
However I do think that in terms of rep disney need to do better because:
They have done little to show bisexuality on screen apart from that 1 line and so they could have shown our loki with potential romantic interests in the other loki variants even if they still had sylvie as the main ship because then it would have come across more as a 'loki is narsatic' rather than just another m/f pairing
As of yet neither disney nor marvel have had a same sex relationship and some ppl claim its because then disney would lose its audience in places like China however this show was on disney+ and not available in China yet they still chose to portray a m/f presenting relationship which the creators knew would be controversial and that some ppl would see as self-secst before having a canon same sex couple in the mcu even though the comics had other women they could have used as a love interest (I.e syigan)
They teased the chance of genderfluid rep but then never explored it in the show and went out of their way to say that sylvie was aways a girl and strongly implied that there none of the loki variants we see had even considered the possibility of a female presenting loki
Basically I'm neutral about both the ships however I'm annoyed about the way the mcu is portraying loki's sexuality and gender especially as the comics have done a great job and loki's always been queer especially in the mythology.

I think we see him changing throughout the film, with him finally letting go of things beyond his control and accepting where he is in life. When it comes to his love life though, I think he’ll have a harder time being mature about it XD He’s got a very firey heart that wants what it wants.
I don't think he changed that much, though? And I like that? And I can't stop making every sentence a question? This is how I talk in real life, actually? I am sorry?
I like that he keeps certain character flaws that don't make him obnoxious or unlikeable, but that actually make him more sympathetic. I can relate to being fiery and with being sort of in love with the past, having trouble letting go and accepting that some things are out of my control.
I think Stephen is one of those people that will never give up on something. It's his greatest flaw in the comics, too. He just can't quit anything in the middle, he has to satisfy his curiosity and see what's at the end of the line.
It's the reason he'll never get over Mordo in the MCU. Like, romantically or not, he'll torture himself with useless scenarios of what-could-have-been or where he "saves" Mordo from himself.
I get very irritated whenever I hear people saying that Mordo’s jealous of Stephen.
People say WHAT now?
Tumblr media
When was that ever conveyed in the movie?
nev•er nĕv′ər
adv.
Not ever; on no occasion; at no time.
adv.
Not at all; in no way; absolutely not.
Mordo never wanted to be the Master of the NY Sanctum. Nor did he ever want to be Sorcerer Supreme. There’s nothing indicating that Mordo wanted anything for selfish reasons. If people really watched the movie and paid attention they’d realize Mordo’s actually the most selfless character there :( Baby baron deserves more love than to be reduced to a jealous rival. There’s no basis for that claim at all and it digs a knife through my liver whenever someone suggests it’s why he left.
SAY IT LOUDER FOR THE PEOPLE IN THE BACK
Mordo was distraught and confused because the Ancient One's plan when she names Stephen the Master of NY Sanctum looked to him like she wanted to use Stephen as cannon fodder. He looks at her with a face that says What? Why're you using him like that? It further cements doubt in his head that she's shady. Which she is and that's why we love her.
Did people even watch the fucking film? Or is it racism? It's probably racism. Yes, bringing the race card. Mordo is Black, so he must be angry and jealous at all times. Y'all... I can't with these people lmao
Mordo IS the most selfless character. YES! I will wilfully ignore the post-credit scene, as I've done for years now, and ain't nobody stopping me. I am a Karl Mordo apologist.
This blog is a beacon of positive energy, y'all. I don't worry about characters of colour any more, knowing there's places like this blog that don't drink the Kool-Aid. Mordo, baby, fans of colour and the gays got your back 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽
And the image of Stephen cockblocking Loki is hilarious. Especially if it’s clear that Mordo’s just being professional and polite and Stephen’s already growling at Loki to take a step back
Alpha!Stephen growling at Loki, who can change dynamics like its clothes (the omegaverse version of genderfluid, maybe?) but at that moment is an alpha just to fuck with Stephen and totally hit on Mordo, and Omega!Mordo being embarrassed yet also feeling cute, like, "Stephen, you're acting like a fool..... I didn't say stop."
Sorry, but Loki being Mordo's ex-bf is just so funny and hot to me. Loki meets Mordo when Mordo travelled to Asgard with the Ancient One, he started courting him, Mordo was young and naive, they had a fling... I imagine them having a long-distance relationship with Mordo sending Loki the most melodramatic, ridiculously romantic letters. It's a short-lived romance filled with perfumed letters, bad poetry, and sexy yet classy nudes.
When they see each other again, Loki is a bit surprised by how much Mordo has physically aged, sadden by Midgardian's short lifespans. But then he's like... DAMN. You look even better than before! You're ageing like fine wine, baby.
(Stephen, in the background: BABY? DID THIS MOTHERFUCKER CALL YOU BABY? OH, IT'S DOWN. Magic duel. You. Me. Now.)
Mordo is probably embarrassed by it all, will blush before talking about it. Loki never got over Mordo, though. He points at Mordo and says, "That Midgardian right there? The only one who deserves to live in this mud planet of idiots."
The offer to be Midgard's Queen still stands, Mordo!

Ohhhh my goodness sweet Nonny! Thank you for such a wonderful response! I really enjoyed reading it, and that lovely gif is just perfection! ^^ I feel like this blog has gradually become more Karl Mordo focused, which I absolutely have no problem with. I love Strordo as a love team/ship but if I had to focus on one, it’ll be Karl. I just wanna give him so much love 🥺 He’s my favorite though so that’s my personal bias hehehe. I’m a very hardcore Mordo apologist myself. Like c’mon....if Loki and Tony can have redemption arcs, then Mordo can too. And if people can defend their favorites, then so can I.
Omg those scenarios of Loki & Karl having a fling and Loki never really getting over it...perfection! I love how jealous Stephen gets here. As if Karl won’t be able to defend himself. Now I’m chuckling at the thought of Loki & Stephen legit fighting and Karl knocks out both to stop it, dragging an unconscious Stephen by his Cloak while apologizing to Loki. Just imagine Loki sending gifts to Karl randomly & Stephen whining about it. Karl would tease him about it, but also clarifies that Stephen’s his man. No need to fuss my love 😉 😘
Also...I often fantasize of Karl just....ugh, just growing up in a happy family that spoiled him rotten with love. I mean, the multiverse is a thing right? At least one of the those verses would have the Mordos and Krowlers absolutely adoring the hell out of him. Can you imagine there being a Krowler who loved him as much as canon!Krowler didn’t? Someone who would be mortified to learn there’s another version of him that tried to sacrifice his precious grandbaby? Idk why, I just love this little fantasy that somewhere in the vast multiverse good!Krowler is wrapped around Karl’s little finger. Like alright darling boy, stop crying, it’s only a papercut *tosses book into the fire for the crime of making Karl bleed*

i’m sorry but y’all realise that loki from norse mythology was gender fluid and pansexual right??? and that inspiration for comic/mcu loki is largely drawn from that?? and that while it might have only been confirmed in canon recently (largely due to the growing acceptance for different genders and sexualities outside the binary), it doesn’t mean his character hasn’t always been written that way??
There are many things to address here and imma tackle them completely out of order, but here we go all the same:
The actual ‘inspiration’ for the current iteration of Loki in the comics is, and has always been, transparently so, a common fannish interpretation of Tom Hiddleston’s portrayal of the character in the films once produced by Marvel Studios and today by Disney. The tweenish, arguably-emo Loki is a thing of the present, not of the past; nor does it match the spirit of Scandinavian myths that well, mind you, but that is almost another subject entirely.
Still, the Loki character in the M.C.U. is not the Loki character from the comics which is not the Loki character from the comics (even the comics older than the first Avengers movie for that matter) which is not the character from the myths as written down by Christian clerks—because, by the way, the only written word we have on the Germanic-Scandinavian mythology happens to be recounts of oral tales by people who didn’t believe in them, and more often than not approached them in a euhemerist state of mind.
In any case, the mythical figure of the Scandinavian character/god was not exactly Stan Lee’s primary inspiration for creating Loki-the-comic-character, which he even initially confused with Satan, before retconning him partially into the character we’ve known for decades and loved to hate, which is to say a primary antagonist of Thor’s, a full-blown (if not always that competent) villain, sometimes referred to as the ‘god of Evil’.
As was recently commented about my earlier post: the comics have expressly been changed to appeal to a younger readership, as a clear and candid enough ploy to benefit off the astonishing post-Avengers, largely S.D.C.C.-induced Tom Hiddleston craze. Seriously, though, by the year 2013 it had blown into a proper personality cult. Marvel was also largely exploiting Hiddleston’s slight overeagerness—the poor man aged like ten year in mere months after being squeezed like a lemon for pandering purposes, leading to major changes in the way he interacted with the crowds—and the comics definitely were a seductive call to the newly-acquired audience.
But it’s not just that.
‘Gender’ and sexuality are being treated by the Tumblr-dwelling youth like they’re a sort of fandom these days, and we’re decidedly losing sight of the main issue at hand behind the whole bleeping concept of gender: the way that societies traditionally distribute and assign social roles according to the type of genital apparel one has got, and how individuals can be pressured into conforming stereotyped behaviours, and get punished for failing to comply. That is ‘gender’.
Calling a mythical creature from millennia-old beliefs ‘genderfluid’ is vastly anachronistic already, but even aside from that, we are veering into nonsense, since Loki-the-god never changed ‘gender’ to begin with; he changed sex. To be precise, he changed species, and turned himself into a fly, a salmon, a mare—as for the insect and the fish, nobody seems to venture a chromosomal hypothesis. Oddly enough, the Furry community appears to be slightly less eager than Hiddleston aficionadas to appropriate the Norse divinity, but I reckon they should. They’d certainly gain plenty new adepts in the process.
Yeah, yeah, there’s the whole business of Loki being mocked for getting raped into pregnancy by a magical stallion—because the butt of the joke, thank you Snorri for the mental images, was that Loki got his comeuppance after nearly causing Ásgarðr’s ruin again, must have been Tuesday—and the other gods quipping about his being argr for various reasons but especially because of theseiðr. If memory serves, in the Lokasenna he himself mocks Óðinnthat way.
It is part of a whole social process that was probably enforced by the Church (we simply don’t know what the position of pre-Christianity Scandinavia really was on homosexuality, virility or ‘effeminacy’) to erase the Shamanic aspects of Norse paganism by rendering the practice of ‘magic’ shameful because unmanly. Oh, it is part of ‘gender’ for sure—except there is no defiance of gender per se, only condemnation, and stories intended for a particular interpretation. I find it quite a little dishonest to pretend that Loki would make an ideal patron saint (!) of the wannabe-’genderfluid’ crowd for being a trickster divinity with a knack for metamorphosis...
Besides, gender is not fluid, anymore than sexuality is—anyone pretending the opposite is trying to sell you something, or about to punch you in the face (and get away with it, judging from recent news). ‘Gender’ is either a euphemism for ‘sex’, as suits Anglo-Saxon prudishness, or a buzzword meaning ‘personality’ except we’re supposed to believe it’s super progressive to declare a kid is really a girl because he wants to wear pink, or a woman was a man all along because she is into women.
As for the ‘non-binary’ sexualities... yeah, go step on many Legos. Gays have fought for decades against those telling them that sexuality was more of a mood than a fixture, so sticking a tacky label that says ‘Progress!’ on homophobia and misogyny doesn’t make them go disappear. Time to spit out the Discourse now, it was getting old already when mass media started sanctioning conversion therapies.
