can I just ask something?

i feel like really dumb for this but the host has been following morg on our other blog and has seen their side and everything and believes them but has been getting really distressed with everything going on but I feel like morg is weaponizing the hate and harassment he gets to manipulate people to stay on his side, the way that he is encouraging harassment and everything is really distressing to the host but the host believes everything that morg is saying but I want the full story so that if morg actually is the one in the wrong about things I can protect our host

what happened with vaspider and him and the cripplepunk movement and transgetlemanluke and him and with you and him? why does he think he is justified with harassment? from what he has said he is justified with anger but not harassment ever

Don't feel dumb, okay? I've talked more at length here, but I'm going to try and make this a short, sweet, simple version to the best of my ability.

Basically, Morg gets a lot of hate and derailment because of his personality. It's abrasive and outspoken and unapologetic, so it draws as much anger as it does positivity. Some of this anger towards him came when people with mental illness started derailing his posts about physical illness. I was following him until he went from attacking people who attacked him to attacking all people with mental disabilities.

I made a post that was untagged that got picked up. I ended up blocking Morg for my mental health. I was sidetracked personally into the cripplepunk debate because of the idea that cripple is a slur only used against the physically disabled. It's not, though it's most common.

The cripplepunk stuff is a mess, but Spider's part in it is that Morg has more or less erased Spider's own physical disabilities and mobility issues in order to spin the narrative that Spider is profiting off the movement. People are believing him because they don't like Spider talking about how the brain is part of the body and therefor mental illness is also physical illness and they can and do affect each other. So in this case in particular, Morg is absolutely lying.

Morg sent some people asks telling them that he was going to kill himself, so they won. He's also been lying about this. The night (for me) that it was happening, he was going back and forth about no one being able to affect him that much to blaming people like Spider for his current ideation.

I made a post talking about his behavior, and he reblogged a screenshot of it with a bottle of pills. After I learned he had survived and had gone offline for his mental health, I made a video talking about my experiences and how what he was doing wasn't right and unhealthy for him.

Recently, he has found the video and is upset I made it. So from what I can tell, he's mixing genuine pain with anger and lies. He has purposefully told people to send me hatemail. I do not encourage and in fact have berated anons coming into my askbox previously crowing about his self harm.

I have made mistakes. I included his url in the video. I accidentally misgendered him, which I then corrected as soon as it was pointed out. I poked the bear a bit when he was block, unblock, reblog, blocking me. But I do believe that Morg is the one being harmful here, to himself and others.

I hope this helps. And even if your host still sides with him, it's okay. It may be best, and you can try to talk to them about this, to try and temporarily unfollow for a week or two. It'll die down soon.

Fandom! Just curious...like wouldn't SJM be aware of the fandom chaos? Even in some form? Maybe I'm just a bit anal and obsessive but when/if I publish a book I'd look into what my fans are thinking and if things got this bad release a statement or something. Am I just not that intune with what the publishing/author things are like? Or am I just more anti sjm than I originally thought I was. Because this is not okay and no one is holding these people, whatever ship they are, responsible.

No, I really doubt she knows. And personally, I don't think it's her responsibility. We built this mess, we are the ones behaving and reacting this way. It's ours to clean up.

Sorry, I get on my soapbox a bit here re: the acotar fandom.

From what I know, sjm intentionally keeps herself out of any sort of internet discussion. In one of her most recent events, she said that she doesn't even have any social media apps on her phone, and just uses it to play solitaire or something like that. And I think that Steph said she doesn't tell Sarah about any of it because of her mental health. There is 0 reason for her to need to know that people were joking about kidnapping her kid or her husband choking. The fandom is such a clusterfuck right now, that how would she be able to see through the noise to the actual, useful information, not to mention how could she engage with it?

I think there are some good reasons for this - I can't even imagine how I would react to seeing an entire anti community dedicated to me and my work. A lot of the criticism or discussion online is... suspect, at best. What good would it do her to read someone's headcanon? Or someone's completely subjective analysis of a scene? That's also tricky territory because authors aren't supposed to see any written fan work stuff, or they could be accused of taking ideas from people. I'd also rather she not know because I don't want fan service books. I want the organic story she wants to tell.

Also, fandom is a completely separate monster that the books, the publisher, and sjm did not create. Our behaviors are our responsibility. It's like the Wild West out here and some of us are taking full advantage to be assholes they always aspired to be. But there is no Fandom Police, which in cases like yesterday, kinda sucks.

I understand the desire to want sjm to make a statement. When Steph was getting a raft of shit for not shipping elriel anymore, I thought that surely Sarah would say something. I thought now this is personal, so she should get involved. But the thing is - and this is why I often choose not to reblog things with negative content - her response would also give that behavior a larger platform and more attention. And for someone with sjm's following? It would be 1000000% times worse.

And honestly? Even if she did say something, then people would just cry "death of the author" (inaccurately, might I add) and continue doing whatever they want to do. There is a fundamental lack of respect for other people that these behaviors indicate, and Mommy Sarah coming out and chiding everyone isn't going to make it better. People need to be held accountable, but it so quickly spirals into deflection, defensiveness, and then rerouting the conversation to insult OP, that what's the point? Sometimes I want to hold people accountable, but at the end of the day, that's not my job or responsibility, and all I can do is control my own actions.

My advice is to just be vigilant with who you do and don't follow, freely use the block button, and don't go into spaces that you know aren't safe. Right now, that's almost all of Twitter, and from what I hear, BookTok isn't that great either. I stick to tumblr, I have tags blocked, and I have about 40-50 fandom-related blogs blocked.

Unfortunately - and this is what makes all of this even worse - the fandom is proving itself to be very unsafe for people of color, and that's disgusting to me. It's disgusting and embarrassing and makes me want to peace out when people are just here trying to have fun, and a woman of color who rightfully calls out disgusting behavior is then subjected to something 1000% worse, essentially derailing the conversation away from the actual problem - racism, sexism, homophobia, and ableism in the fandom - and turning the discussion into tone policing.

And that is what happened yesterday. Instead of reflecting and saying "wow, this fandom is doing shitty, racist, ableist things", the discussion turned into "omg why is OP calling people out, OP thinks she's so smart, OP needs to say these things differently, OP should be nicer", etc. etc. But that means WE NEVER END UP ACTUALLY CRITIQUING THE ORIGINAL PROBLEM OF RACISM, SEXISM ETC. IN THE FANDOM. The entire discussion gets skewed elsewhere and we are right back where we started. With people being problematic assholes, and others being afraid to say anything about it.

(The way those phrases have been used as weapons in ship wars is a separate issue.)

I know I went way beyond your original question, but I think that as a fandom, we have way more responsibility for our own actions than Sarah does for calling them out. And I am putting this in all the tags because I think everyone needs to see it.

a few years back, me and some friends made some PSAs about the general problems the pokemon fandom has with reposting art. most japanese artists who use mediums like pixiv and twitter to share their art are not okay with their art being reposted without permission, and the pokemon fandom in particular is REALLY bad at respecting this. 

we talked primarily about rocketfandom because that’s where we’re most active, and some members of rocketfandom took this VERY personally. i don’t know if they’re just thirsty for notes or what, but a lot of people just COULD NOT HANDLE the idea of being told to not repost art. and it wasn’t like we mentioned anyone by name! it’s such a wide-spread problem, and so many people circulate that art without knowing, it can’t be blamed on any group of people. i reblogged SOOOO much reposted art when i first joined tumblr, hell i reposted a lot of it myself.

james-team-rocket, musajirou, & buchichiu were the most vocal about their disdain for this idea that artists were to be respected. the latter two used the classic, ‘well I’M an artist and i’m fine with it!!!!!’ defense. so i blocked them, because i block people who annoy me. we have not interacted since then.

prior to this, most of them were a source of annoyance to me and a lot of my friends, anyways. jez (james-team-rocket) would reblog queer headcanons attempting to “disprove” them with canon evidence. musajirou would reblog innocent posts from me and my friends and just leave ridiculously negative garbage on them all the time. after we all just rolled our eyes and blocked them, they started vaguing about us on private apps thinking word wouldn’t get to us. a number of them, most notably musajirou, badmouthed my friend jessica pretty bad, even though she’s really never done much beside get on to make goofy jokes every once in a blue moon.

jez has a habit of making personal posts where she rallies her followers to bother me in order to circumvent blocks. at one point she smeared another rocketblogger i was friends with, claiming that this blogger called jez out directly even though it was ME who was doing the calling out. jez purposefully screencapped my her blog in such a way that it looked like this other blogger was at fault when it was ME!!! naming names and picking fights. why? because i’m untouchable. i block everyone, i stand up for what i believe in, i scare people. consistently, these members of the fandom tend to only go after folks they view as easy to cut down and bully. that blogger jez framed ended up nearly run off the site for things that had nothing to do with her. the lot of them then tried to appeal to said blogger’s senses by sending her asks in the vein of we know it wasnt you, honey, it was that evil bitch musashi.

we were also able to connect musajirou’s IP to a number of troll accounts. these accounts were meant to directly smear the kind of rocketbloggers me and my friends were--they were incredibly hyperbolic accounts that loudly sang jessie’s praises while consantly bashing james. this was in response to me and my friends calling out the misogyny in the rocketfandom, how the woman in the ship was often villified while the man was treated like a Soft Baby Boy Who Could Do No Wrong. when they weren’t this, they were loudly queershipping, reblogging rocketshipping posts to derail about how ‘lol they’re gay sorry!!!!!’ in an attempt to make fans who interpreted the rockets as not cishet look like ~crazy faggots lol!~

eventually, these accounts devolved into outright homophobia. unsurprising, lmao.

and again i’d like to reiterate, i blocked all these users LONG before all of this. their temper tantrums have and always will be responses to things i say on my own blog far away from them. it’s wild how the people in rocketfandom wildly recognized as toxic & ones to avoid are the ones calling people who don’t engage with them bullies. almost makes me wonder if maybe they’re the problem! xD

yeah i name names and yeah i don’t forget. nasty fuckers get remembered! you can call me a bully all you want, if it shuts your ass up and keeps you away from this website then good, it’s a much healthier place without your negativity and my dash has been a much brighter, dare i say MUCH GAYER place since i blocked y’all in 2017. stay mad!

I'm really not comfortable with the Islamophobic stuff you've been reblogging. Using the serious plight of women in other countries to derail discussion of other problems is a gross disservice to those women, and from what you've posted before I'd have thought the sex-negativity and anti-choice nature of that recent post wouldn't be something you'd approve of.

I’ve stated multiple times that I don’t believe problems faced in the US are the big injustices against women.  This does include the fact that abortion is still debated because even though some people don’t agree with it abortion is still legal in the US some places try and set a time limit on it but that’s disregarded if the woman’s life or health is in danger for obvious reasons. 

As far as the sex-negativity goes, unless you’re relating that directly to the abortion point or if your referring to the fact that “Sex tips that don’t suck” was referenced as one of the laughable top stories of Everyday Feminism, then I’m not sure what your talking about.  The recent post didn’t really touch on it much and as for my personal opinion, I don’t really care what/who/how much people do as long as it’s consensual.  However at the same time I don’t think it’s a big fight for western women as there’s no laws preventing us from doing what/who we please and I’m not in a big crusade against the opinions of some people who find it icky. 

I apologize if these opinions weren’t made clear before.

As far as the the Islam thing, I don’t care much what religion people are on an individual level however what we see going on in the middle east shows that that type of implementation, at least, is not compatible with modern civilized society.  (I mean if you ever wanted sex negative or anti choice examples) I’ve never been okay with stonings, acid attacks, or child brides.  However to refrain from gendering an issue too much I find bacha bazi quite disgusting as well.  If anything I’ve said makes you too uncomfortable unfollow or block me.
