what are some books you would recommend? I've already read all the john green and I don't like harry potter so u can leave those out 🙂
hm it depends on what ur looking for i guess!! tbh i haven’t read much recently but i can still try to recommend some stuff :))
poetry-
i wrote this for you- pleasefindthis (i have the one w the pictures and the “just the words” one and i think they’re almost the same but)
Whiskey, Words & A Shovel- r.h. sin (the second one is really good too)
Crush- Richard Siken
The Anatomy Of Being- Shinji Moon (mayyyybe my top fave from this section??)
Milk and Honey- Rupi Kaur (everyone’s read this at this point lmao but it’s still great)
non-fiction(?)-
The Opposite of Loneliness- Marina Keegan (i guess it’s not really non-fiction completely bc it’s mostly short stories and such but there are some essays/actual non-fiction pieces in it and honestly it’s so incredible, the story behind why it’s published is also pretty heartbreaking)
Chasing Water: Elegy of an Olympian- Anthony Ervin and Constantine Markides (this also is fantastic, anthony ervin was an olympic swimmer and this sort of focuses on all the shit that come along w that and how he finally reached a place of happiness/peace)
Tuesdays with Morrie- Mitch Albom (this is a memoir and it’s soooo touching)
This Is How-  Augusten Burroughs (technically a self-help book but it’s very brutal and honest, really good)
fiction-
Unsaid- Neil Abramson (soo touching; prob in my top five fave books ever)
Book Thief- Markus Zusak (also so great)
The Shack- William P. Young (this is pretty faith-based, so if you’re not super into that i’m not sure how much you would like this. i’m pretty apatheistic/atheistic now and i read it maybe five or six years ago when i first started shifting my religious views from catholicism to where i’m at now and it was just one of those books that really sits with you for a little while after finishing it)
The Alchemist- Paulo Coelho (it’s been so long since i read this and i still can’t put into words the effect that it had on me just read it ok)
We Were Liars- E. Lockhart (THE ENDING FOR THIS IS SOOO…. WOW)
Me Before You- Jojo Moyes (i haven’t watched the movie yet but the book is a++)
The Kite Runner- Khaled Hosseini (very very very heart-wrenching)
The Art Of Racing In The Rain- Garth Stein (SO GOOD ALSO SO SAD)
All The Bright Places- Jennifer Niven (ok this one is also good ofc but i read when mentally i was at the lowest point in my life and to make a long story short it was just very… not good. i viewed it as more of a “this is book dealing w mental illness geared at someone who’s friends w someone that is mentally ill, not for someone who actually is” kind of book. now that i’m relatively doing pretty fn good i wanna def reread it but anyways it’s fantastic and touching and well-written)
The Perks of Being a Wallflower- Stephen Chbosky (another super fantastic book w a good movie, personally i like the book better but)
The Hunger Games Triology- Suzanne Collins
The Chronicles of Narnia- C.S. Lewis
Percy Jackson & the Olympians- Rick Riordan
(i included the last three bc minus harry potter they’re my fave series (also twilight but lmao) so if u haven’t read thg i’d recommend that first)
classics-
Slaughterhouse-Five- Kurt Vonnegut
Wuthering Heights- Emily Brontë
Pride and Prejudice- Jane Austen
The Great Gatsby- F. Scott Fitzgerald
(they’re classics what else is there to say?)
