Okay I can FINALLY take some time to answer this now, huzzah!

I have some other John related asks I'm VERY excited to answer but I have gotten far too sleepy now so I once again have to wait on those because I have a LOT to say and I am incapable of not treating everything like I'm writing an essay and bringing in citations.

But anyway, if I gave all of my top John moments this post would be a thousand miles long so I'm just going to give some of my faves. And this is in no particular order, I'm just putting them down as they come into my head

"Is that the truth, or the truth you tell yourself?" asked Augustine. "What is the difference?" said God. This exchange makes me go INSANE. I can't even be coherent about it right now, I just love how chilling John's response is, and also Muir using God here. I love her very clever choices in terms of what she calls John and when. Calling him God (or by another one of his fancy titles) can either be used for comedy (aka "Thanks," said God) but it can also be used for an absolute wham line like this one and it's just very good. I love it. It's chilling. He's so scary

When Harrow explodes G1deon and everything is going insane and then John just says "Stop" and just freezes everybody. It's such a cool moment. He just STOPS it all, I LOVE it. Also: The Emperor of the Nine houses—the Resurrection—the First Reborn—sat at the end of the table, his plain face splattered with gore, and his eyes were the death of light. Oh my GOD is that such a good line, I am deeply not coherent here but god I love this entire moment, it's such a good reminder of how powerful John is (and then him being like "I did't really want to eat human again Harrow" sdfghj)

The entire section where he reconfigures himself after Mercy exploded him. And then his killing Mercy so casually. But what I really love about it is how stone-cold he is after it all ("I never liked cleaning house all at once") I love how this scene really shows how right Augustine was earlier in the book when he told Mercy "John is never as sentimental as you think." John is so matter-of-fact and it is SO good when we see him turn on a dime like this and start cleaning house (I also love "You acted afraid—" "Acted is operative. But this is not am FAQ.") I am not explaining myself well here but I just love the way that John, who we have seen as this very affable, mellow, often very funny character throughout, turns on a dime and is suddenly so ruthless, right after killing someone who he was begging to forgive him moments before. The absolute callous tone he has ("I didn't offer it to Mercy because Mercy really pissed me off, I'm sorry to say.") is so jarring and it's GREAT. And I've seen people point to this as proof that like, 'oh John doesn't actually love them like he says he does, John is a liar he was faking his affection.' And that is SUCH a boring read. What's much more interesting, and terrifying, is the idea that John can be fully in earnest with his affection, but then just so brutally flip a switch when he's pushed. Idk, it's just a great moment. I am explaining myself poorly here I know asdfghj

"Harrowhark, nobody has the right to know," he said fiercely. "Nobody has the right to blame you. Nobody can judge. What has happened, has happened, and there's no putting it back in the box. They wouldn't understand. They don't have to. I officially relieve you from living in fear. Nobody has to know." I love this line because it's like, John are you talking about Harrow, or yourself? And with the context of NtN this becomes even more clearly John bringing his own baggage to the table. It's so good. I have a whole post brewing in my head on this subject that I am sure I'll inflict on my poor innocent followers at some point

Uhhh, every single John interlude in NtN. I know that's cheating but literally every single one had me going off my rocker.

But even more specifically, John 1:20. That entire section may be my favorite part of the book. I actually had to stop reading for a moment after I finished it (and no joke I did whisper "damn, Tamsyn" out loud and I was, in fact, crying a bit. it was also like, 6am and I had been up all night aserfghj). But seriously I wanted to pick a single part or so from this to highlight but I can't. It's all so good. And heartbreaking. John crying at C— and N— 's wedding, and eating for the first time in ages, the building desperation at the state of the world and how helpless they all feel and that bit of humanity and joy with the wedding, immediately followed by...everything else. "John, your problem is that you care less about being a saviour than you do about meting out punishment." John and Cristabel's final conversation. The absolute heart wrenching stuff with John seeing everyone die and his blurry recollection of it because holy shit it was horrendous. Literally everything else. Also THE MOMENT HE LETS GO, the entire sequence of him trying to take the earth into himself, and then the terrifying description he gives of him eating the solar system and pursuing the departing ships. Also I just really love "All those frightened people. All those run-away rats." I think I just have a very clear uh, 'line read' of that bit in my head, and I love the way he calls them frightened and then the absolute rage in the way he calls them rats. Idk, it's really clear in my head I can't really explain myself better here. But anyway yeah, the ENTIRETY of this interlude makes me go absolutely wild to the point that I cannot be coherent about it.

John 5:4, and everything John says about forgiveness, and what he'll do next, and taking his friend's memories. Again I can't really be coherent about this entire section, but I will give my fave bit from it. "There can be no forgiveness for those who walked away," he said. "Just as there can be no forgiveness for me—even though I rip the very fingers from my hands...throw them into the jaws of the monsters who hunt me...as I run from them across the universe, end to end. Something will satisfy them eventually, but nothing satisfies me. Nothing." I put that last bit in italics because it is maybe my fave line from John. There's just something about it. It's just so tragic and chilling and terrifying and I LOVE it and I love how it is sort of this like, succinct and perfect sum of the tragedy of him. Idk it's just, chef's kiss.

Okay finally, not a direct John moment per se, but this: John loved her. She was John's cavalier. She loved John. For she so loved the world that she had given them John. For the world so loved John that she had been given. For John had so loved her that he had made her she. For John had loved the world. I have so many thoughts and feelings on this that I cannot articulate but oh my goddddd. It's so good. First of all the whole playing off of John 3:16 thing. And just...the wording, the way it all flows. I cannot be coherent about this I just go insane. That ending For John had loved the world hit me like a brick the first time I read it, and continues to do so every time I reread it. There's something so simple and final and heartbreaking about it. I think it sums of the tragedy of the character and his story in one simple line. If that makes any sense whatsoever.

ANYWAY, this is an absolute ramble of an answer I know, but the prompt here was 'makes you want to chew on furniture moments' and I feel like with that vibe in mind the level of not hinged I am here is at least thematically appropriate. They were in freaking middle-high school before coming here… I love there being a running theme where Hero doesn’t become friends with Partner because of the actual Pokémon running into them. Instead, they kinda cling to the Partner who’s one of the few actually interesting individuals in the school. Hero will literally help them prank anyone in the Village or burn the world if Partner asks them to.

And the Partner very quickly realizing the Hero as much starved for a friend, possibly even more than them. Hero who knows so much obscure knowledge about the Legendaries, egg moves, how to do high level math like Kecleon does, how to tell an interesting story—yet feels like everything and everyone in the village is too slow to understand how they work. Partner might be a enthusiast kid who gets in way over their head. But, even they can tell how terrifyingly brilliant the Hero is despite hardly saying anything.

Need a plan to take on a dungeon with Pokémon they are both weak too? The Hero prepares a bunch of ammunition to throw at enemy Pokémon. Partner gets frustrated over their Pops (Carracosta) scolding them for not getting along with Pancham? Hero will make up something about Partner and Pancham being rivals who just strike sparks with one another.

Partner needs someone to help pull them from a self-critical spiral where they wonder if their careless nature will prohibit them from actually being a decent explorer.

Hero’s one hundred percent right there explaining how their enthusiasm is a great quality since exploring is their passion and not just a job to them. For all that the Hero was a supposedly endless well of knowledge, they weren’t a know-it-all about it nor did they find it hard to admit when they were wrong.

(A PSMD!Hero who’s trying to keep it together in a completely new world, while also getting used to a new body and stuck in first grade.)

Hi beachpie!! Thank you for this ask! We all had something to say! @kkachis said: 1. yes we have. mostly in the form of improbable crossovers because TTB alex and danny are the main iterations of these characters in our brains and we love making our blorbos meet each other 2. for me i like choreographing action and writing horror scenes the best @artistfingers said: i like to write silly dialogue and shenanigans and, anything revolving around lying, half-truths, concealed identities… you name it. when characters are on different pages and when the reader knows or suspects something a character doesn't… when the narrative conceals nuances of a character's understanding… i love that shit. i guess my favorite writing is very character-based and personal. with TTB i've also had a ton of fun practicing action and very literary styles too!

As for me (@ghostly-cabbage) : 1. In the main story of TTB? Not so much. Mostly because it's going to be such a monster of a fic that, honestly? Everything that we want to touch on and explore we probably will! I won't say never tho 👀. Adding onto what kkachis said, we totally also think and talk about OTHER crossovers asdfghj. For a period of time we went absolutely insane on discord with @abrielarnold about a Danny and Alex crossover with Lockwood & Co. Recently, we even ping-ponged some hilarious crack type stuff of TTB! Danny, Alex and Yassen crossover with Generator Rex. It never fails to be SO much fun. 2. My favorite stuff to write is ovbs the horror stuff but more than that, I love quiet heartfelt moments between characters. Is the scene soft and melancholic? Gentle and bitter sweet? I am THERE. I also LOVE LOVE LOVE to write altered mind states. Be it from dissociation, panic/flashbacks, drugs, doesn't matter. Anything that gives me an excuse to fuck with the literary style? I want to do it.

Why he was so quiet and elusive from you all this time.

Why all those nights Edward didn’t sleep next to you…it wasn’t him…it was Clayface. He had someone masquerading as him to you, making you a fool…keeping you blind in the dark, none the wiser.

It doesn’t mean what Edward had done was right…no what he did was wrong so unequivocally wrong.

He lied to you, betrayed you, manipulated you in the worst ways. Most would worry about their partner cheating..leaving them for someone else. You almost wished he had just done that…it would have been vastly easier to process.

You felt like you were choking on air…a frog in your throat bouncing to get out but you kept trying to swallow it back down. You couldn’t say the same for the boundless amount of tears that fell from your eyes.

A tall, pale, red eyed man attempted to approach you, to try and comfort you.

“No! No! Stay the hell away from me…” You cried as you backed away further from the door.

“Please…I-I’m sorry…I was so sure this plan would work! I-I didn’t know it was going to end like this!”

“Didn’t know..” you muttered pathetically. “Didn’t know?! Trying being me Edward! I didn’t know a goddamn thing!”

Edward winced at the shrill in your voice. He’s heard you cry before, but he was always able to comfort you somehow. Made you smile or laugh. He still held to some thread of hope that maybe he still could.

Although it was useless.

“I just wanted to protect you! I didn’t want you to get hurt!”

“From what, Edward? From what?! The truth?! That you were sick! That you were likely going to die! The man I love was knocking on death’s door and you thought I didn’t have a right to know about it? What if the Lazarus Pit didn’t work, Ed? Hm?! Thought of that!”

You were borderline hysterical at this point. For all his brilliant intellect…he sure was clueless on some of the more basic things.

“I knew it would work…” Edward muttered. “I went to the doctors, they practically gave up on me. It was the last choice I had, I didn’t want to die!”

“And not once…did you think to tell me?”

“Of course I did! I thought about it every waking moment! I wanted to tell you, but I-I didn’t want to scare you…I didn’t want you to..”

“To what, Edward? To what?!”

“Be upset! To f-freak out! I was going to come up with a solution! But I didn’t want you to worry!”

You let out a pathetic laugh at that. Upset? What the hell did he think you were now?

“Sorry to burst you bubble, Eddie…but I’m a little more than just upset…I’m fucking furious…hurt…” You collpased on the wooden floor of your living room. Whatever strength you had left you were using to speak. “But…more than anything I’m disappointed…you-you didn’t trust me…”

“No-No, no that’s not it at all!” Ed tried to approach you again but you snapped your head up.

“Don’t–”

Edward held his hands up in surrender. “Okay…okay…look I-I messed up, big time! I-I know that! I-I’m sorry! I just…I wanted to protect you!”

“You wanted me to be ignorant…worried I would just get in the way…”

“No-please! Just stop twisting my words!”

“Just be honest!” You shrieked. “All those nights I wondered where you were…and then you finally showed up…or Clayface or whoever…they were. I could tell something was off, I kept shrugging it off…there was a reason the kisses weren’t the same…your warmth wasn’t there…and when they couldn’t even recall how we met…I knew-I knew then…

“You really think I’m that stupid, don’t you, Edward?”

“No…I-I had no doubt you’d figure it out…that’s why I had Clayface leave that letter on the table.”

“So why not just tell me? Protect me from what? The truth? The truth always comes out…it wouldn’t hurt nearly as much as it does now…if you would’ve told me…” You weeped.

“Trust me…I-I know that now…I just…I was scared. I didn’t want you to be scared. When I came out of the Lazarus Pit…I-I admit I didn’t even recognize myself.”

Yeah, tell me about it. You thought as you looked up at him now. This tall, broad-shouldered, pale man. Who claims to be Edward. He somewhat sounds like him despite the deepened voice. Some weird hollowed host of the man you loved. The shell of someone you used to know.

Edward got down on his knees in front of you, but still enough to respect your space.

“Please–I. I know I messed up. I shouldn’t have kept all this from you. It was the stupidest thing I have ever done…and–althought I don’t want to admit it…I have done a lot of stupid things…you of all people would know that.”

Edward was mortified when you didn’t giggle softly. Usually whenever he exercised self-awareness it was to amuse you, because he could let his guard down around you and not worry about losing you.

Little did he know that he already had.

“You don’t have to forgive me tonight or tomorrow…nor any time soon, but just…please…please don’t–don’t give up on me…on-on us.”

Something clicked when he mentioned “us”, you two…

For the first time, since you and Edward reunited, after you were informed he was pronounced dead just the night before.

Everything was clear, everything was out in the open like a map that was finally done processing all the new countries and oceans.

Everything was clear.

At first your mind was fuzzy and fogged by memories ones with your true Edward and ones with the false. Your emotions, your heart although it ached at your conclusion…it’s beat was normal and calm for once.

You were calm and you were sure.

“I’m afraid it’s too late for that Edward…”

Edward’s eye widened, panicked. “No, no, no–please–please I’m sorry! I’m sorry! Please! I’ll do anything!”

Edward reached for you then. He grasped your shoulders and shook your shoulders. As if attempting to snap you out of your decision.

You were motionless, speechless, exhausted. What good was it to fight for a relationship when one person couldn’t trust the other. You were more than certain you couldn’t trust Edward again, not after all this. Not all this Hush mess.

“You should’ve just told me the truth, Edward…or Hush or whoever you are.”

“Please! I’m Edward! I’m still your Eddie!”

You shook your head. The places were switched now, he was the one screaming and you were calmly responding. No more screams, no more tears, no more effort into something other than the inevitable.

“No, no you’re not. Not…not anymore.” You got up and his hands slowly slipped off your shoulders like a blanket and you began walking away. He quickly got up to follow you.

“I suggest you leave, before I call the police.”

Edward halted. “No–No, please! You don’t want to do that! Please! I’m sorry! I-I won’t lie to you, no more! I’ll tell you everything and anything!”

You said nothing as you picked up the home phone from it’s reciever.

“P-Please…”

Your eyes stared up into his dark red eyes.

Oh, how you missed his warm brown eyes.

They were long gone now, along with the rest of the Edward you loved.

You held the phone up to your ear, still staring down this man in your house.

“You should leave-”

“Please…”

“Begging will get you no where. Leave.”

“B-But-”

“NOW!” You began slowly pressing the buttons, like a parent counting down to their child.

Edward panicked once more. He didn’t want to give up but knew that he had no way of escaping the police. He looked over his shoulder before dashing out of your front door and into the dark streets of Gotham.

You exhaled a breath you didn’t know you were holding. You put the phone back on it’s receiver. You were surprised that you found yourself not caring or worried about where Ed-Hush was going or if he’d be safe.

He was no longer your concern, he was no longer Edward.

Now, all that was left was for you to continue to try and pick up the pieces of what remained of your heart.

thwres a heatwave happening but theyre still going to school cuz shit's fucked and taylor and scary ger out od class early so they're waitinf for the others to link up with them right? so they're waiting and taylor is like scary i feel weird and scary is like you are weird and taylor is like no i meannn uhhhh and then scary gets concerned and asks taylor what's wrong and he's not answering and then he fucking. faints and she freaks out and she's like TAYLOR. TAYLOR. TAYLOR. TAYLOR WAKE UP and taylor is like huh whwaa and scary tells him he fainted ane the sit down afainst the wall and taylor is leaning against her and shes freqkint out and she texts the group chat with the teens and tells them guys taylor fainted come now bring water and of course link is there immediately and he gives taylor his own water bottle which is like. lukewarm at best in this weather and norm comes with a fresh cold bottle cuz he was not as panicked and trying to get tgere as fast as possible as link was you know and taylor is sitting there and everything is kind of fuzzy but he can hear link telling him to drink so he does and he can hear them throwing around the word nurse and heat exhaustion and he doesn't really know what's going on and then link picks him up and carries him and they take him to the nurse . smth i also thought would be fun is ther not being a nurse becquse of tge apocalypse bullshit so they go and raid the first aid equipment and fuckin try to cool taylor down with ice and cold water

i may have talked to you about this before but i like the idea of taylor being extra susceptible to overheating because he is 1/4 demon which causes him to run hot and 3/4 human which means that the demon heat levels aren't regulated well at all, thus making him more likely to overheat to the point of passing out

OOO yeah you did talk to me about the hc alittle bit before, I think its very creative!! love seeing the demon genes explored :D Definitely feel the overheating struggles for summer weather, got really dizzy yesterday too, very disorienting Dx this is so good though and ahh scary's little banter made me laugh (deadpan "yeah you're weird) asdfghj then the sheer panic when she realizes something's wrong oh no heartwrenching. I like how she let Taylor lean on her and contacted everyone :'0 Linc trying to get there as fast as possible is sweet and then Normal knowing to get the cold water too!! Reminds me of his fact about getting heat stroke before. Taylor being so out of it too..nice that the three are looking out for him. Aw carrying him the whole way too!! Oh man, good point, the nurse being gone because of the chaos makes a lot of sense. I'm loving the idea cookies :]

You explore hunter's dynamics with the cast so well, it's really beautiful! And hunter gradually getting more lenient about it??? Like he's so done but also?? It's in line with his development in the story??? BIG RAMBLE (and some fanfic related doodles) BENEATH THE CUT!

That's so kind of you asdfghj I really appreciate it!! I love storytelling and character focused stories/plot/themes, and writing this fanfic has been a really nice exercise for me to indulge in that.

I'm making a story of my own which is also character driven! So, again, it's really nice to stretch my legs in writing too. :)

I'm glad you think so highly of my fanfiction!! I really wish a season 3 could've happened!! It's been fun trying to juggle all the characters and set them up for their own arcs.

Yes!! I feel like a lot of the show was building up a lot of themes to identity, finding yourself, loss/grief (of various kinds: Loss of family, loss of oneself, etc). But also showing the opposite theme: Of finding yourself, relief, peace and acceptance. Even moving onwards.

Themes that Vee represents/embodies really well - especially as a shapeshifter.

I think, for one, Hunter and Luz was supposed to have opposite arcs. Hunter finds himself and Luz loses herself. They would balance, thematically, off of one another. While still keeping Luz' struggle as the main character as the force to move the plot along; Hunter's arc only getting spotlight to support/dual Luz journey/decline/rise.

Taking the season three episode titles, I lean on the "for the future" one the most, as I think Luz dealt with a lot of doubt about where she fits in and what she can provide going forward (both for herself and her friends/family).

And I think Jacob would've been an interesting character. As much of a gag he is, he does represent certain aspects of both Luz and Belos.

He wants to be the chosen one (like both of them) and he wants to do something for his town (save it from witches, like Belos), and he wants to fit in with his community (like Luz) and can't quite find a way to do so. Perhaps even losing sight of what is going right in his life in favour of the grander greater thing (like both Belos and Luz) - That if they don't fit in with normal, perhaps it needs to be abnormal, and grand, and epic.

..... I mean I say all that, the difficulty is pulling it off lmao asdfghj ||||||OTL|||||

AND THANK YOU FOR NOTICING THAT'S WHAT THE GAG IS ABOUT. I'm genuinely surprised people liked the gag so much, I was worried only I would think it was funny haha, but it also pleases me you picked up on it's purpose :'D I love that all I have to write is *Beep.* and y'all know what's happening. :'DD

As always my thoughts because no one asked

From least to fav here are my overall thoughts:

Urusei Yatsura (2022)

I am just not the target audience for this. This is probably a nostalgia ridden show that people who watched the original will love and enjoy but I am not that person and with the two eps I watched I had enough. The jokes were not funny to me all characters were annoying and yeah the animation is nice but I will not put myself through something I will not enjoy for it tbh. Watch it if you liked the original ig

Tonikaku Kawaii: SeifukU

I dislike tonikaku with a passion it gives go girl give us nothing to the negative 20 no flavor no taste still the same shiz as the show so yeah. Watch it if you liked the series lmao its more of the same

Shinobi no Ittoki

I guess…… Its really kinda bland and I can’t pinpoint why. The concept is interesting but it just doesn’t hold up in its execution and I dont care for it run sorry do better I guess

Fumetsu no Anata e 2nd Season

I try so hard to care, SO hard. Since season 1 I have found this show to be kinda…. All over. Like the only storyline I cared about was the one with the kid with the mask last season and since that its just been meh to me. Like, we already kinda know how everything is going to go and all the arcs are kinda the same, they show us someone, we care for them for like half an episode, they die, repeat.

Bocchi the Rock!

I TRIES SO HARD TO CARE TOO I AM SO SORRY. This has been like the number 1 show this year but I… I dont know I just dont like it ASDFGHJ I am not a big fan of cute girls doing nothing specially mixed with the uwu social anxiety quirky. Like they dont paint it in a bad light like most shows do and the art style is very unique but I just dont… Give a shit adfgdhjf I tried I promise but hey if you are into this shows probs the one for you.

Mushikaburi-hime

This one is boring I am ngl. Its not bad but like… Its not good either. Ive seen this trope done SO many times its just boring. It hasn’t done anything bad per se but I just dont really care for it much. I like my romance with spicier ships so yeah I mean if you like cute royal same old same old couples then watch it.

Koukyuu no Karasu

I feel like this is a good show but I am just not the target for this adsfgh its a show you gotta pay attention to understand and a lot of history goes behind it and it just kinda bored me but I know its not bad. I just dont think its for me but that's okay I might keep watching it.

Eternal Boys

Its okay. Its a nice concept and I have only watched like 3 eps but its a nice message I guess. Its short and whatever so it doesn't take much time to watch but its not something revolutionary. I like idol shows so maybe I am giving it more than what it is.

Mob Psycho

This is the one that gets me cancelled part 2 SKSKSK. I am not going to lie besties, I am not the biggest mob psyhco fan. Its okay, I just never got into the hyper around it sorry :(( I really wish I could because I know its a good story and I ddi like that last episode a lot but like,,,,, I feel like the story was over last season ASDFGH But hey I am glad y'all enjoyed it a lot!

Boku no Hero Academia 6th Season

I am ngl, I am like on ep 2 of bnha season 6 but have seen the Dabi scene like 20 times thanks to social media and I got no choice but to Stan. I dont like this arc of bnha as y'all know but it seems more interesting than last season and I like the way the animation direction is going so I will give them points for it.

Its cute girls doing silly lil stuff and I am not a big fan of the genre like I said but this one is more entertaining for me, maybe because I am more into DIY shit but its cute!! This was cute! A refreshing romcom from the ones weve gotten recently tbh. I liked it even though I have a different interpretation of the road they took it in the end but it was a fun show to watch with some nice gags and cute characters, defo give it a go!

Renai Flops

Okay hear me out. This one is in a weird place but hear me out. I hate everything this anime stands for because it was such a cliche weird and ecchi but it was such an interesting train wreck I HAD to keep on watching every episode and when I least expected it I was suddenly on ep 6 and the twist left me screAmiNG. It kinda goes downhill again after ep 7 but just because it took me so off guard (dont wanna spoil it but aloO) it goes high up, gg 1 for the ecchi trash 0 for Maria this round.

Yowamushi Pedal: Limit Break

Ngl this season of yowapeda hasn't been as hyped as I hoped for me but I care so much about the characters I will place it high up SKSKSKSK its basically more of the same; I honestly miss the upperclassman a lot but its okay my babies appear like for .2 frames and I start sobbing

THIS IS HOW YOU DO CUTE GIRLS (AND TSUKASA LY BESTIE) DOING CUTE STUFF IN A GOOD WAY. If you like Saiki K you'll like this show. I dont know how to explain it but it gives the energy from Saiki K and I loved it they are very important and relevant.

Spy x Family Part 2

Its more of the same of part 1 y'all know spy x family its a good show I love them all I love when my families are found go stream it look at Bond and Anya being best family

Tiger & Bunny

Guys guys my favorite comfort soccer players are finally animated!!! Watch it. If y'all follow me y'all know I am annoying about blue lock. Its the only anime that has Bachira AND Reo imagine the odds!!! Its a great sports anime and the characters are great and I love it and its my comfort okay

namjoon and hobi are my biases and as for bias wreckers my official choice is jin (!!!!!! no one bias wrecks like jin bias wrecks) but also i'm happy to say i share yoongi with the girlies like one would share a braincell <3 custody wise, i get to call him my bias on the first wednesday of every month and the last saturday and sunday <3

which member I’d fight (& why)

my main pick would have to be jimin. out of all the challengers i have chosen thus far jimin is the most scrappy, the most petty, the most likely to hold no bars, and the idol with the most Unhinged Ferality™ to give me true, seasoned battle experience. he would be the least likely to forgive me for whatever transpired between us in the fight, but that simply makes him a more worthy challenger. my only upper hand in such a battle would be that, upon upsetting jimin, he would tap into all the anger he could possible feel — currently, retroactively, and preemptively — and such fuel is so overwhelming that i would be able to set someone marginally annoying in his path and hope that he thoroughly exhausts all that energy on them, before ever reaching me. while this might seem like too convoluted a choice to be advisable, consider that i would be able to indirectly take out my own anger with whatever soul i bring into our crossfire, and that fighting jimin would offer a strategic challenge that i haven't seen the likes of, thus far. furthermore, i think jimin deserves to sucker punch someone and i want to be there to witness it.

however, if we are to stick to verbal battles and jimin is otherwise occupied, i would have to choose jin as a close second. he would absolutely annihilate me, but i just might get pity friendship from perhaps one (1) of the other members who saw this go down (given that i am careful with how i choose to instigate this fight), and also i would be effectively humbled for the rest of this life and the next 12, which is perhaps something i deserve, after choosing fights based on the chaos of it all.

favorite thing about the group

another moment for me to tell you "we are going to be here all day," i can (and did) wax poetic about BTS because there is just so much of them — to love, to be in awe of, to respect — too much to wrap your arms around and just sit with the knowledge of. not to give in too much to the delulu, but BTS is just so comforting. there is always something to connect to and be swept up by. their music is so expansive, with so many genres and so many themes, and there's a song for everything. no matter where i am at, there's a BTS song for that! and beyond that, the members are all so genuine in their love of music and so ridiculously talented and dedicated to their craft, and they are so humble in their fame and influence and just seek to spread such respect and light, and i'm overwhelmed by them. i've said this to you before, lindsay, but i'll say it again, BTS is so awe-inspiring and all-encompassing that they are more than just an ult group — they are an end in and of themselves.

How do you think reboot Dante would feel about how DMC5 ended? Do you think it would make him try and reach out to his brother more? What do you think him meeting OG Dante, Vergil, and Nero would be like? (Side note: I think reboot Dante and Nico would get along. That woman doesn't take shit from anyone, and I think she'd have a FIELD DAY with his angel and demon powers and shapeshifting Rebellion and all the differences therein. Also, I'd love to see what she could do with Kablooey. Just because I fucking love that weapon, I would love to see what she could do with that design.)

Ok, this is going to get long so bare with me a moment asdfghj I promise I am getting to a point. I have a lot of thoughts adfghjk

TLDR: I think reboot Dante would have a lot of feelings about DMC5s ending and I do think at the end of the day it might bring him a little closer to working on that relationship with Vergil! But also there is so much going on with those two and I'm now going to spend a lot of time dissecting them under the cut

Before I answer the big question though, I'll talk about what I think Dante'd think of the preboot gang!

Preboot Dante: I think they'd get along. They're really similar people to me just at different life stages, you know? And I think as a result preboot Dante understands him. I also think they'd like similar music though preboot's way more into it and reboot Dante would love messing with him (Reboot Dante, Nirvana fan: oh that's a band :) i thought it was a t-shirt brand. Preboot Dante, og Nirvana fan from the 90s, two seconds from strangling him)

Preboot Vergil: I think reboot Dante would...I don't know the word for it, like I guess? That preboot Vergil is far more upfront then his Vergil asdfghj. Preboot Vergil doesn't really lie and manipulate he just sort of is straight up about what he's about and that's probably refreshing. I can not see them interacting for long, preboot Vergil I don't think would like him all that much and reboot Dante would not know what to say to him. (That said if he did upset preboot Dante with silly grunge jokes, that might amuse Vergil)

Nero: I think these two could be buds! They're similar in age and everything. I could see them being friends. Especially since Nico and Nero get along, I just think him and reboot Dante could get along

(Side note, I think Nico and reboot Dante would get along swimmingly! I definitely agree she'd find the angel/demon thing very interesting and they could talk about weapons and shit all day, it'd be so fun!!)

Ok, now onto the big question. What would reboot Dante think about the DMC5 ending. In which I meander a lot and ramble about the twins, their dynamics, and eventually answer the question asdfghj (all under the cut)

The reboot twins have a really interesting relationship to me.

The preboot twins have more of this begrudging acceptance of one another. Like this very 'no matter what that is my brother even if I hate him'. And I think, particularly in Dante's case where he had to live with this guilt of thinking he killed his brother only to find out that he didn't and he has this second chance to mend this relationship, that it makes Dante a lot more willing to in turn attempt to mend that relationship.

Which is not to say that I don't think the reboot twins care about each other. They are brothers and they do, before the end of the game at least, seem to want to have some sort of relationship. But it's a different dynamic.

The two Dantes to me are very similar people, nearly the same guy, just at different points of his life. Where as the Vergil's to me are very different people. While they both seek power in one way or another they're just...Very Different.

The reboot twins to me have always had this sort of tension between them that the preboot ones lack. I mean, the center of the DMC story regardless of being preboot or reboot is this family drama of the Spardas so I'm not trying to say they entirely lack that tension. But there's a very different dynamic going on with the reboot twins to me.

The main difference I think is the fact the reboot twins did not have memories of each other for the bulk of their lives and thus developed very separately. Where as preboot Dante in DMC3 knows his brother and has this past with him and there's some trust there, some need to trust there...reboot Dante kinda...doesn't have that. He gets his memory back, yeah, but he doesn't know Vergil. He knows an 7 year old version of his brother that he no longer is and there's tension in knowing that and the push and pull of wanting to know this person, knowing you on some level do know this person but also knowing that you kind of...don't know this guy. You haven't been there for all these years. This is your brother and you love him but he's a stranger.

And I don't know if reboot Dante exactly...likes what he see's with Vergil. I'm going to be borrowing a little from concepts from this post I made about reboot Dante being smarter then we all give him credit for.

There's also the different ideologies of the reboot twins. Not that preboot Dante and Vergil don't have different opinions on things. They obviously do since Vergil justifies leveling cities in attempts to gain power he feels like he's lacked his whole life and Dante thinks that's kinda messed up. But the reboot, especially in the definitive edition with that added cutscene, puts it more as a point of contention between the brothers. Vergil justifies everything he has done in the reboot because he thinks his plan is the most important thing, because he signed up for that and Dante, who didn't sign up for that, does not remotely agree (I touch on this somewhere in the middle of this really long post of Kat and Vergil things). Which, again, not different from the preboot twins. Dante believes his humanity is important and shuns the demon, thus forth believing in the inherent importance of humans and that their continued safety and existence is important. Vergil believes that his human side is weak and that humanity is expendable as a result of this and his quest for power.

However the difference between twin sets here is I don't exactly think preboot Vergil thinks he's doing any greater good? It's just that people need to die for him to get what he wants and he's indifferent to that suffering. Reboot Vergil on the other hand seems to firmly believe it is his destiny to free man kind and that what he is doing is right and justified (assumption coming from how in Vergil's downfall he tries to justify his actions to hallow Kat but also some cut dialogue that extrapolates upon things he says in game). There's also a sense of playfulness to them in the preboot that the reboot kind of lacks but that's less important I guess right now.

Reboot Dante doesn't exactly seem to trust Vergil. He seems to want to try for the sake of the fact they're brothers and they are all they have left but, again, reboot Dante isn't a very trusting person and he seems to decide very quickly that reboot Vergil is not trustworthy. He seems to spend a lot of the game in this push and pull. I argue a lot of his anger at the end of the game is the fact that Vergil broke that tentative trust and Dante saw it coming the moment he met him.

I also imagine in the aftermath of Vergil leaving (and nearly killing him), Dante probably has a lot of opinions on whatever the situation was with Vergil and Kat and her inevitable reaction to the fact Vergil is gone.

That all said, I do think at the end of the day reboot Dante does want his brother back. Vergil is his only blood family and he does seem to care about him. Even if they don't agree on much. I think also part of this is definitely from Kat, who seems to believe Vergil is worth saving and wants him alive (and still with both of them). So I don't think its incorrect to say that Dante does want to try to mend the relationship (that said I do think reboot Dante wants to do that on his terms, not Vergils)

I think if he were to see the end of DMC5 then and see the preboot twins getting along and joking and fighting together so easily that it'd cause a few things. Probably some jealousy that his brother and him did not so easily just...fall back into place like that. But also the hope that they could get along. Like if they can do it, maybe he can.

But I do think it'll take a lot of work, Vergil did burn a lot of bridges at the end there and even if Dante is willing, Vergil needs to put in the bulk of the work to earn a place back in Dante and Kats lives.
