Can we talk about how much is Mike trying not look at El during the whole beginning of 4x9?

It’s right after they found her again, and they’re trying to figure out the situation around Max and piggyback to her mind, so if this was a scenario where you just saved/got back your girlfriend or even a friend, wouldn’t you notice them a bit more, happy they’re back with you?

gif 1 - she comes back with the idea of piggyback to Max’s mind, and he looks at her for few seconds and rather looks at Jonathan for much longer time.

gif 2 - he looks at what she’s doing the whole time, it doesn’t matter because she’s facing the other way.

gif 3 - he doesn’t know where to look, looking at other people talking.

gifs 4 & 5 - he’s talking to her, so he looks, but it’s not about his concern for her but reminder what the bathtub would do, it’s connected to her powers.

gif 6 - will points out there was a motel along the way. mike’s looking at him.

gifs 7 & 8 discussing searching for place with enough salt and the right tub for el:

Especially the last two gifs were interesting, because the vision on the characters it kind of obscured, but it’s still noticeable how Mike is looking anywhere else but El, unless he’s speaking directly to her - and when he does it’s about a reminder of her powers.

Even the other guys make eye contact few more times during this scene, like having normal discussion with her. But he’s avoiding eye contact.

It reminds me a bit of this part in 4x3, when Mike didn’t even look at Will this whole scene, after the rink-o-mania fiasco, and which was also a scene right before the elmike fight. (A fight they can’t come back from?)

As comparison I can just point out how his oblivious ass is looking at Will whenever he gets a chance, from ep 4x4 and onwards (again- after the elmike fight. A fight they can’t come back from.)

Which also makes me think - what if Mike didn’t thought of El as his girlfriend after their fight in 4x3?

Argyle reminded him so many times in 4x5 about his “superpowered girlfriend”, and he didn’t dispute it, but that was right during this part, and he clearly looks confused, like he’s questioning everything.

When they got El back they didn’t even kiss, they hugged and then looked around and Will was waiting for his hug with El.

In the pizza place in 4x9 they talked how they missed each other but don’t have enough time to say what they wanted to talk about - both El and Mike wanted to discuss something more.

In 4x4 and 4x5 Will reassured Mike that when he and El meet again, he would have opportunity to say to her whatever he needed to. Even if it might be hard, because she might not like the truth. (Mike nodded at this part, agreeing.)

But they didn’t get to say what they wanted in the pizza place.

Then, if Mike’s monologue in 4x9 was meant to be romantic, it failed. Eleven failed, Mike’s words weren’t enough. He couldn’t explain himself, so he said what came to his mind, but it wasn’t the right words, or it wasn’t the right - true - feeling.

Maybe he stopped thinking about El as his girlfriend already in 4x3, when he read that letter and came to a conclusion that their fight has changed something for them being together.

And since then he started to realize some other things, very slowly.

I can’t wait for Finn to beat the bad actor allegations, because he clearly knows what he’s doing - and it’s in the eyes.

This Week in BL - 2022 is the Year of Cheaters

Sept 2022 Wk 4

Being a highly subjective assessment of one tiny corner of the interwebs. Organized by which ones (in each category) I’m enjoying the most.

Ongoing Series - Thai

The Eclipse (Fri YT) Ep 7 of 15 - Screw you GMMTV, that was a dream kiss? That’s some Kdrama bullshit, that is. Still Aye is such a good character, so perceptive, I ADORED his interaction with Kan. Neo is doing an epic job with that role. That was that softest achey stolen kiss in the world. Also this ep = Beach frolic trope and a Make It Right moment.

Vice Versa (Sat on YT) Ep 11 of 12 - DOOM EP was not very doom for an ep 11 (except for the acoustic guitar). Pluen goes back because of what Tun did accidentally, not him, which honestly I kinda like as a twist. I was very confused about the “month long tidal inaction,” did the alt universe have extra moons or something?

My Only 12% (Fri iQIYI) Ep 7 of 15 - a tear jerker this week and likely next too. Also piggybacking across a bridge, two tropes in one. We about to get the time jump which is going to be interesting.

Work from Heart (Thurs YouTube) pulp office drama featuring lots of couples starring Gameplay. Started dropping on YT so I picked it up and stuck it into rotation. Poor Dee, his gramps is so overactingly bad, mean, evil, and homophobic. Still there is a sweet little masked meet cute. There’s a bunch of drama around a workplace and other couples all over the rainbow, so that’s fun. Sort of SCOY goes to work. There’s some nifty linguistic stuff going on so I’m actually enjoying this pulp trash. Shocking. Truly TERRIBLE wardrobe tho. And I don’t love Nammon w facial hair.

Love in the Air (Thurs iQIYI) Ep 6 of 13 - Not a bad episode, I wasn’t mad about it. But that’s kind of how I am with MAME, it’s always up or down and last week’s a cappella counter liftt situation rough, so I’m glad this one was a bit of a break. DUMPSTER FIRE TRASH WATCH ALONG HERE.

Fahlanruk (Sun GaGa) 2 of 12 - I do not like the narrative framing technique of the female blogger/whatever. Her character does not belong in this show. What she hast to say is unnecessary, pat, and boring. In other news we got into KP bathroom territory really quickly. “Do you really like him or do you just want to win?” would appear to be the premise of this show. Both characters are players, cheaters, flirts, and anti-heroes. They better both be deeply wounded or the narrative can’t save them. I’m assuming Sher made himself this way after some similar player type broke his heart. Not sure about Fah. That said, I do like how very gay, switchy, and verse these two are. Although a complete change of underwear in the middle of a sex scene was weird to say the least. I like the side dishes. No surprise there. Still I’m not sure I can take 12 episodes of this nonsense. I contemplated a trash watch but I’m not feeling snark-inspired just sad about it.

Linguistics corner:

Fah is using phi/nai or nong (in a belittling way) with Sher. Sher is using guu/mueng with Fah, Which is highly inappropriate and rude with a phi. These two are linguistically combative, to say the least. Also the show has all the wifey language your a little heart could possibly desire.

Ongoing Series - Not Thai

Takara-kun and Amagi-kun (Japan Thurs GaGa & Viki) 6 of 8 - No new Ep 6 this week. Have a lovely Shūbun no Hi if you celebrate. Otherwise it’s a good tome to be self reflective and contemplate about life balance etc.. around the Autumnal Equinox.

Once Again (Korea Fri GaGa) 3-4 of 8 - It’s a little bit more creepy than it is romantic, but it’s also weirdly amusing (this strange kid just keeps hugging him - that’s like 1000x even weirder in Korea than most places) and more enjoyable than it has a right to be. It’s a really interesting take on the childhood crush trope among other things. JaeWoo must seem like SUCH a weirdo to JiHoon. I guess what I’m saying is, it’s odd but tense and well acted, which is a nice change for BL.

More Than Words (Japan indie subbed by furritsubs - TIP ‘EM if you like em!) Adaptation of Etsuko’s two mangas In The Apartment + More Than Words. Has a violent crazy beginning but it is necessary for the story. About a lonely neglected/abused girl and a cheerful kindly popular boy who go to school together and become besties. When they get part-time work at a restaurant, a cute older gay boy enters the picture. This is classic Japanese close-filmed melodrama, and it isn’t a BL. But it is excellent. Can’t be relied on to resolve happily, or even resolve at all. I’m engaged even knowing this, and I love this subber so I’m gonna stick with it.

It’s Airing But I’m Not Watching It

War of Y - too hard on my soul. Will I watch it eventually? Maybe? Probably not. I think we have and ITSAY situation going on here. Also BL Express was not best pleased, and I while we rarely share taste, in this instance I trust their reporting.

My Tempo - a Thai BL movie about the Thai music industry. Yeah, no thank you.

Oh My Sunshine Night - I’m scared it’s gonna be sad, so I’m waiting for spies to tell me it’s safe

Finished This Week

Coffee Melody (Mon Viki) Ep 10fin - (I am assuming episode 11 is a bts or music video.) The family dinner with the new bf was endearing awkward. We had a classic Korean one year time jump in the last five minutes of the final episode. (Which shoudl be left to Korea. Actually, even Korea should get to have it anymore. We’re done with this trope. I say this on behalf of the international viewing public.) My side crumbs got a cute little mutual kiss, unfortunately ALSO multiple sing your feelings tropes. (Will I ever get a week of BL without this trope?) It will be a long time before I forgive this BL for muffling Pavel’s light this way, I know he can do better. Very disappointing. Ultimately this show is so forgettable I’ve pretty much already forgotten it. 5/10 JUST DULL

Papa & Daddy 2 (Mon GaGa) Ep 8fin - It was a standard execution of the “marriage finale” endemic to most romcoms, just v. gay. I do like that my second lead syndrome got a little prospective action. Did I tear up at the wedding? Of course I did. We have established this before, I am a sap. All in all, this was a serviceable follow up to the first installment in the series, if riddled by unbearably unlikable parents, lack of story, and sappiness. 6/10 WORTH WATCHING BUT FLAWED

About Youth (Taiwan Mon GaGa) Ep 7-8 of 10 - I thought this was a 10 episode arc so I’m a little sad to find it ending this week. Are we ever going to get an explanation about what happened with the side dishes Taiwan really likes a romantic “one boy balances another boy on wheels” thing. I really wanted Guang to leave his awful parents but Im glad he at least threw the test. And I really appreciated that he sent a video since it was a way for him to accurately communicate his feelings without being interrupted. Cute final kiss! Very squee-worthy. Rainbow was a little on the nose. tho. All in all it was great little BL. Classic YA low drama but high angst, I didn’t even mind the singing, and that’s saying a lot. I wish it had been given a bit more space to breathe, but all in all a great edition to the Taiwanese Bl lexicon which was in dire need of a good sold high school BL. Full review here. 8/10 RECOMMENDED

In a Forbes interview the executive producer of Semantic Error (and CEO of AXIS CPP) revealed that AXIS production will be opening Blue by Blue, a drama label whose first BL project is about vampires. Interview here.

Kimmon and Copter are reported to star on their 7th BL together, a romantic comedy series, Boy Never Smiles. KimCop aren’t the longest running pair (MaxTul, BoomPeak, OffGun, and KarnNut trade that crown around) but they may now have the most BLs under their collective belts.

New Thai BL from Uncommon Studio Midnight Fortune adapted from a Y-novel by wickedwish for 2023. The MDL and tag lines are bonkers so I’m not dignifying them here.

Cutie Pie is getting a least one special episode, The Wedding, we assume.

Takara-kun & Amagi-kun Ep 8 (Finale) Stray Thoughts

I am going to miss this little show, but I'm excited about these two reaching a resolution point for us leave them.

Holy shit. They were having a cute moment. Takara tried to pull a seme kiss move, and Amagi literally head-butted him. I'm dying.

I will definitely miss Nao's physicality. Seriously, if any of his future work becomes available to me I will probably check it out.

Of course Takara is going to bail on his friends for Amagi.

I like that Takara has gotten earnest about expressing his feelings for Amagi to keep Amagi from getting paranoid.

Oh, this piggyback ride is cute.

I really love the way characters enter the frame in Japanese shows.

Wait, Amagi still thinks his feelings are one-sided???

Oh, Katori, you are a favorite for the Namgoong award this year.

Oh ho! Finally we have formed a council to help Amagi see and feel that be is loved, valued, and cherished.

Oh snap, I wrote cherished before Takara said it.

Tanaka is tall. He keeps almost hitting his head on door frames.

I am glad they genuinely want to make things work. Time for a sequel the fans will argue about forever.

Final Verdict: 8. This was cute, but just like with Mr. Unlucky I feel like we left Amagi's tentativeness about Takara's clearly-expressed desire unresolved. I liked the performances all around. I'm unsure how I want to move forward with this one.

Secret Crush on You Ep 8

- Toh is a terrible liar. That can't be why their nickname for Nuea is Red. But his lie was pretty clever.

-God they're so cute. I love Kwan and Fon celebrating.

-The dramatics of Toh wanting to keep all his stalker memorabilia. 🙄

-OoooOohhh Sir Daisy and Sir Touch....😏😏 I like it.

-Though I am always confused when people are sacred of geckos...they're just little guys....

-Oh God, he wet his pants.

- The picture conversation is so cute..mm and then Nuea got all saucy....I like saucy Nuea.

-Aahh classic BL piggyback rides. I love them, but also these dudes must be so strong carting around another full grown man, string bean or not.

-Aww the memories 🥺🥺

-Stupid Prao being stupid. 😒 Props to Toh for being mature about it, even if he feels a little insecure.

-I'd say maybe if Jao stopped running Sky would stop chasing him, but that's a lie.

-This bitch is gonna do something shitty again I just know it. okay, not shitty just stupid. He's told you twice already, why bother asking again. Eewww, calling Toh 'something weird' 🤢🤢. That's gross, and just feels homophobic.

-Little rooftop dinner date... adorable.

-"I want to make you do some intense exercise" 😂😂 That's quote the come-on Nuea.

-Toh continues to forget people can in fact perceive him when he's being weird.

-God Jao is so cute, and Sky is so smitten. I guess Jao's started his own little collection, but decidedly less creepy.

What do you think about the one hour long thing the Duffers are talking about? I’m worried it’s gonna be a long battle, full on action and visually impressive but could become boring really fast. I’m more interested in mysteries and character development.

Spoilers (and guesses)

I’m guessing Creel House Battle is the hour long sequence. I suppose it could possibly also include El “piggybacking” on Max via the salt bath. But I was mainly thinking it’s the plan they (including seemingly Eddie via his dnd manual?) come up with to try to defeat Vecna that doesn’t go to plan and would involve lots of things happening w Hawkins gang in the UD (or mindscape?) trying to kill Vecna, something happening to Max and Lucas, the big guitar moment, etc. Maybe there’s also an earthquake then? Or is there a moment of pause and then things go crazy and the earthquake is later? Based on the timestamps I don’t think Cali gang arrives until very late.

Actually tho is there any chance part of Creel House battle begins in ep 8 (def the preparation does), but I was assuming it’s mainly in ep 9.

Some thoughts on Stranger Things volume 2 and Byler.

So I get that like, they couldn’t suddenly be together this season, that wouldn’t be realistic.

But Will Byers still got shafted. He had a beautiful moment with his brother, I loved that.

But pretty much no reconciliation with Mike. You telling me in a 9 hour car ride Mike never thought “I can’t believe El commissioned this painting. Wait I thought she said she hadn’t seen it and had no idea what it was!”? That Will gave him this painting he worked hard on and Mike was like “oh that’s cool” and promptly erased it from his mind? Like I get the situation didn’t call for casual chatter, but like I said they were on the road for a lot of hours.

Not gonna lie, with the way El did it, and the title piggyback, I was expecting Vecna to go after Will by piggybacking into her mind. Or even once they reached Hawkins to like “feel him”.

For the first few seasons it felt like this was personal. That something about Will was causing the Mindflayer/Vecna to choose him. Why did the upside down go from just a hellscape to a copy of Hawkins on the *day* he got pulled in?

I’m really wondering how the 5th season will go. Overall, I felt disappointed in most of the last two eps. Jopper was beautiful. I was stressed about everyone living or dying. I feel so bad for Dustin. And Lucas. They have been traumatized. And poor Max, she broke my heart.

I don’t know that I’d call it queerbaiting only because like I said, I don’t think they could have gotten together in this time frame. But I also understand I may not know the complete definition of it. And I’m sorry to everyone hurt by it. 💔

vol 2 timeline predictions + new stills (hawkins)

chapter 8: papa

vecna kicks nancy out of the trance. nancy tells them what vecna showed to her. that's when they learned that they should burn his lair (the creel house) because that's the only way they know that could kill him; burning his home.

and like max mayfield said, “now we just need to sneak into his lair in the upside down and drive a strake through his heart.”

“No one deviates from the plan. No matter what. Got it?”

the plan is stobincy will go to the creel house (upside down version) and attack vecna in the attic. meanwhile eddie with dustin plays his guitar to draw the demobats away from the creel house. last but not the least, lumax + erica will go to the creel house (real world version).

sadie emphasizes the word “leader” as max's role in ep 8 & 9. my take is this means she decides to be the bait. max thinks she can handle vecna because she trusts kate's magic. hell it saved her once, why not twice?

max's idea is that she will be at the creel house so vecna would "attack" her. vecna is vulnerable when he's hunting. he will be focused on max unaware that stobincy attacks him in the upside down.

the gang disagrees to her idea at first, but she convinces them by saying they have no choice. it's like now or never. so lucas comes with her to make sure she's safe. erica comes with them too.

the gang steals the rv and they all go to warzone.

shopping at warzone

the gang buys guns, supplies, and gas, a LOT of gas. they also bought camouflage to add a layer of protection so they won't be spotted easily. (idk where they got the money tho. erica?)

el blowing up the silo + cali gang locating her

the last scene of this ep is probably el blowing up the silo, killing owens and brenner. the cali group arriving just in time to rescue her.

chapter 9: the piggyback

after eddie dies, dustin and stobincy go back to the real world. they successfully burned the creel house, but it caused an earthquake. not only in the upside down, now it reached hawkins, the real world.

the earthquake caused a huge disaster. the military is now more involved. they made hawkins high as a rescue shelter for the earthquake victims. the government also instructed everyone to leave hawkins immediately.

March 2021 Part 4

Being a highly subjective assessment of one tiny corner of the interwebs.

This is a LONG ONE, it’s been A WEEK everyone.

Ongoing Series - Thai

Lovely Writer Ep 5 - a little slow this week, but at least Gene finally flirted back, and very cute flirting it was, too. Also we got Aey’s motivation, background, and love interest. Thank goodness for that.

Brothers Ep 8 - still pants, what can I say? Clearly I am a BL masochist. Very embarrassing for everyone concerned.

1000 Stars Ep 9 - the conflict over Tian’s father was REALLY well done. The plot of this drama is excellent, the leads are great together, and yes I totally cried. What, you didn’t?

Ongoing Series - Not Thai

Word of Honor (China) Ep 16-18 - big battle fighty fighty stabby stabby. Ep 17 switches to “this drama isn’t big enough for two chaotic-neutral godlings!” So what do they do? Drink together and bicker... A LOT. Then in Ep 18 we all get the dubious joy of really freaky puppets. (I HATE puppets.) Also how is China letting this be so SO VERY VERY GAY? Also, I wanna walk through the forest wearing a smanshy purple robe and waving a big fuck-off white fan around simply because I’m a pretentious fuss monger. And frankly, I feel like this is an achievable life goal for me.

We Best Love 2 (Taiwan) Ep 4 - not gonna lie, this is looking to be one of my top 3 BLs of 2021. It’s SO GOOD. Big bonus to this ep for treating stalker behavior like the mental illness it is and not as some dumb representation of enduring love.

The Most Peaceful Place is My Place (Vietnam) Ep 1 - finally dropped (find it under NƠI BÌNH YÊN NHẤT LÀ VỀ BÊN EM on O2′s channel). It’s got actors already comfortable with BL and looks pretty good so far. An angry tsundere uke reunited with his ex, a stoic chef, giving us lots of snap, crackle, and pop out the gate.

Dear Uranus (Taiwan GL) Ep 2 - I want to love it, but it is just moving too fast. There’s not enough character dev and then they’re throwing flashbacks in? It feels like a treatment rather than a show, and a rushed treatment at that. Bummer.

HIStory 4: Close To You (Taiwan) Ep 2 (AKA Ep 3-4) - let the cheesy popcorn continue! Idiot remains an idiot; ingenue remains an ice queen; nice gay guy remains nice and gay; obsessive stalker brother is getting ever more whackadoddle. Of course these last two have the best chemistry. (It’s caregiver codependency and the salvation trope. We got us a Leo/Fiat situation going on.) Plus lots of classic BL tropes because OF COURSE there are lots of tropes.

Occasionally, I am tempted to argue that shows like H4 or Cherry Magic or Ossan’s Love aren’t technically BL because of the office setting and age of the protags - but then they all behave like high school students anyway, so *shrug*

Stand Alones

Cute little Taiwanese micro BL Friend or Lover dropped, about bisexual realization within a friendship group. Normally these are too short for me, but this one did pretty good with its 15 minutes of charm, plus it’s abad boy + shy softy pairing.

Breaking News - Thai BL

Fish Upon the Sky released its actual trailer. The upside-down kiss is gone, which makes everyone sad, and it seems far less rivals to lovers than the first iteration, which makes ME sad. But it still looks good and a more classic BL than GMMTV has given us in a while. New trailer focused more on the makeover trope and they’ve upped Mix’s role (the object of everyone’s affection) now that he’s proved himself. (Or they are using him more to carry the trailer since he has a fan base form 1k*). Starts April 9 on GMMTV in 1K*’s time slot, probably with a 10 ep run.

2gether the movie is apparently coming April 22 to Thai theaters. F4 Thailand must be having issues or GMMTV just wants to milk the BrightWin cash cow. It’s rumored to be a combination of 2gehter + Still 2gether with some extra scenes and ending. Also, one assumes a lot will be cut out, if it’s movie length.

Call It What You Want released its updated trailer. If anything, it looks more scary than before. What are we in for? April 9th.

Nitiman got a release date, May 7 on One31.

I Told Sunset About You 2 got an updated release date of May 27 on LineTV.

Second Chance the series is coming to LineTV on March 29. I don’t know much about this one. Tons of familiar faces (mostly TharnType side dishes) and some nice looking new talent but a dearth of eng subs. I think it may take on Brothers’ time slot. Line did eng subs for Brothers so maybe they will do 2nd Chance too?

Close Friend the series is coming April 22. This is a combination of 6 couples with 6 story arcs as music videos (maybe)? It’s an epic fan service with familiar faces like OhmFluke (UWMA), MaxNat (LBC also in Y-Destiny), YoonLay (YYY also in Y-Destiny), KimCop (GenY), and JaFirst (TT2).

Y-Destiny starts March 30, and has starting dropping couple’s trailers. I’m still suspicious given the director but it seems like there is plot (or plots) and a theme. Looks to be a series of 7 single ep vignettes (amended, see comments, might be 2 eps each for 14 eps total), different couple each time, some with supernatural elements, all with decent chemistry and acting chops.

Tues sports romance enemies to lovers

Weds the messy realistic actual dating one

Thurs hot ghost boyfriend (sad)

Fri YoonLayPerth coping with loss and finding new love (sad). This one will all rest on Lay's acting so we know it’s in safe hands. Our boy is going to KILL it.

Sat time-slip memory loss reunion romance

I’m thinking we can’t expect any of these to end happy or be classic BL. They’re gonna be more slice of life-ish.

Gossip - BL Outside of Thailand

Scholar Ryu’s Wedding Ceremony AKA Nobleman Ryu’s Wedding (Korean historical BL) got a legit teaser (eng sub here). @curriculumvtae reports that it’s releasing April 15th on WeTV (Philippines & Thailand) and Idol Romance (South Korea), while Will of Thai Bl says it’ll be on Viki too. It’s a short run of 8 ep built on a fake relationship trope (arranged marriage variant):

Ryu Ho Seon’s (Kang In Soo from You Wish) arranged marriage turns out to be with his expected bride’s brother, Choi Ki Wan (Lee Se Jin from Mr Heart). Ryu tries to undo the marriage, but his ill mother opposes this saying the scandal would be too much. Meanwhile, Kim Tae Hyeong (Jang Eui Soo from Where Your Eyes Linger), a senior at Ryu’s school, comes to congratulate him and falls in love with Choi. Then one day, the original bride disappears.

Okay it seems a bit twisty turny for ONLY 8 EPS, but oh my goodness how excited are we? Our first intentional historical BL out of Korea!

We already knew Hong Kong was doing a remake of Japan’s Ossan’s Love under the same name (not my favorite Japanese BL but so very popular) but it’s now reported to be coming to Viu in June. Who knows how the CFA will take it. Depends on whether Hong Kong bows before the NO GAY KISSES regs or if they are going to use this as a political nose thumb... things could get cray with this puppy (the original has several kisses and s shower scene). Are we back in Addicted territory only with added comedy and civil unrest?

Speaking of Japan, Absolute BL (AKA Zettai BL ni Naru Sekai vs Zettai BL ni Naritakunai Otoko) dropped sooner than anyone thought, March 27. But being Japanese who knows how/when/if we get subs. Protag finds himself trapped in a world of BL, but being straight he fights against any hot guy that draws near, but the whole world (literally) is conspiring against him. It’s a parody adapted from a yoai.

What with Absolute BL from Japan plus Lovely Writer and Call it What You Want from Thailand, is 2021 the year of BL being ultra self referential? Sure feels like it.

In Case You Missed It

Faded a gay micro film from Taiwan from 2017 deals with parental acceptance and serves up a ton of BL tropes (piggyback, forehead kiss, etc). I’m pretty sure this was a propaganda piece for legalization of gay marriage, and it’s an interesting nugget of BL history as a result. Yes, it ends happy. It’s cute.

warnings: aot s4 ep 8 spoilers, death, loss, grieving/mourning death, denial (i think), it's overall quite sad

genre: some fluff, mainly just angst. however you want to view it

pairing: sasha braus x reader (platonic, but view it how you wish)

extra notes: there aren't any pronouns i use for the reader, however the reader does share a room with mikasa and sasha, but that's it mmm yes.

i listened to this (and some sad queen and freddie mercury songs) while writing this

it had taken a bit of begging from sasha, but she managed to get you out of bed at 1 in the morning. excitedly telling you about how she had stolen some meat and wanted you to go outside and eat it with her. you'd disagreed at first, your main concern being captain levi finding out, but the brunette was insistent. telling you she'll take all the blame if levi saw you two.

you knew that was absolute bullshit, but you were really hungry. so you agreed, sasha excitedly clapping and dragging the blanket off of you. she'd tried to get mikasa to go with too, but the girl remained stoic faced, shaking her head and going back to sleep.

that's how you ended up here, sitting on the grass with sasha, eating meat. at past one in the morning.

"sasha, do you ever think this will end?"

the brunette cocked her head to the side at your words, cheeks puffed up with meat and brows furrowed. “y/n! this isn’t the time to get all sad please, i really just wanna enjoy my meat,” she replied with a whine, mouth still full as she spoke. you sighed, rolling your eyes as you picked up another slice of meat. “can i be serious with you for once sash? and jesus close your mouth when you eat. you look like a fucking titan.” she narrowed her eyes at you , opening her mouth even wider as she chewed.

“you’re really killing the mood y/n, pretty sure even mikasa wouldn’t have asked me stuff like this,” she said, and with that sasha swallowed down the remainder of food in her mouth and fell down onto her back with a groan. she turned her head to look up at you, a frown on her face as she clutched her stomach. “my stomach hurts y/n, you’ll have to carry me back inside!”

“that’s what happens when you eat so damn fast and so much at once! you’ll have to crawl your way back. hopefully levi doesn’t wake up and see you crawling across the grass from the window or something.” you joked, giggling at the way her eyes widened at your statement. “he’ll skin me y/n! y/n please!” you ignored her pleas and stood up, dusting off your pants. before you could even start making your way back inside though, you felt sasha’s two arms wrap around your legs, pulling her body upwards and holding tightly onto you. “please y/n! do you want captain levi to skin me alive? do you? he’ll probably find some way to make me titan fodder! is that what you want?” she shook your legs and gripped onto you even tighter as she pleaded.

you weren’t actually gonna leave here there to crawl by herself, you knew this was gonna end up with you piggybacking her back inside, but it was a little funny to see her beg you to not let ‘levi skin her’.

“fine fine, just grab the plate and hop on my back,” in almost an instant, she unwrapped her arms from your legs and scrambled to grab the plate, waiting for you to get into position before she hopped onto your back, wrapping her arms and legs tightly around you.

“thank you y/n!” she adjusted herself better onto your back laying her head down with a content sigh. you started walking, holding tightly onto the brunette, she wasn’t heavy at all. you’d carried and flown around with odm gear so much by now that this was really easy for you.

most of the rest of the walk back was fairly silent, and halfway there you could hear sasha’s breathing slow. she was already beginning to doze off. you shook her slightly on your back to keep her awake. you didn’t want her to fall asleep and drop the plate, then you’d have a real huge problem and levi would quite literally skin you both alive.

after a bit of walking you had finally made it to your shared room, sasha slipped off your back quietly, and as you closed the door behind you you breathed out a sigh of relief that no one had seen or heard you two. captain levi would’ve made you run laps right then and there if he did.

you set the plate down next to your bed, making a mental note to take it with you in the morning and wash it out before levi could question you. ‘’sasha don’t forget we have to-” you started, but immediately stopped when you saw that the brunette was already sleeping, her legs hanging off of the bed and face planted into the pillow. you giggled, one thing about sasha was she was that just as much as she loved to eat, she loved to sleep. you were sure that if she had the option she would probably sleep the entire day, only waking up to eat something before trotting off to bed again.

with a quick stretch of your arms you walked over to sasha’s bed, taking off her shoes and moving the sleeping girl’s legs onto the bed. she shifted slightly, mumbling something in her sleep as you pulled the blanket at the edge of the bed over her.

you turned around, just about ready to get into bed and sleep away what little time you still had to do so, but a soft tug and your sleeve stopped you.

you turned back around, humming in response. sasha’s eyes were still closed but now there was a lazy grin on her face, she tugged you forward, beckoning you to come closer. amused by the sleepy girls actions you obliged, leaning forward till you were close enough for her to whisper into your ear.

“one day y/n, i wanna have a picnic with you. a real one. outside these walls. with all those nice things we had when we visited historia, remember? promise me we’ll do that. you have to promise,” she sleepily slurred her words, but you could still perfectly understand what she was saying, and with a small giggle and a nod of your head, you smiled. you weren’t sure when this hell was ever gonna end, or if it was at all, but sasha’s words gave you the tiniest bit of hope. a rather small glimmer of light at the end of this tunnel, but it was still there. and for the first time in what felt like a really long time, you felt happy. like there was nothing else that you had to worry about, you could be truly happy with no other worries for just this moment.

you couldn’t actually remember how you had ever lived before all of this. was there a time when you actually didn’t have to worry about titans, or about whether or whether not you and your friends and comrades would live another day? probably, when you were really young maybe, but again you couldn’t remember.

but right now you got that feeling, that carefree happiness, you weren’t entirely sure how just a few words from sasha did, but you were thankful for it. and you knew you just had to keep this promise, as trivial as it was you wanted that picnic outside of these walls with sasha someday. and you were gonna have it.

“i promise,"

“sasha i know its not what you wanted. but its the best i could do,”

two plates were layed out on the ground, each filled with as much food as you could get your hands on. it wasn’t all of the nice things you’d had when you visited historia, but it was the best you could do.

it felt like decades ago when you made that promise, and thinking back on it now you realize how childish it was. were you so filled with hope back then that you actually made promises like this and wholeheartedly believed it would come true? you don’t actually remember, but you did wish you could still have that hope now today. you envied your younger self for it, for being able to have that carefree happiness you were absolutely sure you would never have again in whatever little time you still had left in your life. your light was gone now, and how naive you were for ever for a second believing you could hold on to that light forever. just like everything in this world-no, in this hell, it came to an end. and maybe if you accepted that fact a long time ago you wouldn’t be where you were now, doing what you were doing.

finding some way to cling onto that light-to cling onto her.

you’d told everyone else about your promise, it was a little embarressing to say the least, speaking about something so childish with tears running down your cheeks. you’d also told them the full story, including how she had stolen meat and you had snuck outside in the early hours of the morning to eat it-much to levi’s dismay.

but no one questioned you, not even a little bit. infact, conny had done something similar, he had the habit of filling a plate of food for her at dinner or in the mornings, setting the plate next to him. everyone knew not to sit there, not to question it, because on the inside we were all hoping she would come and sit there. wolfing down her food and complaining after about how hungry she was. you didn’t realize you would ever miss that as much as you did right now.

“armin gave me this seashell from outside the walls, i can’t really go outside the walls right now, there’s not really a way to take you with me, so hopefully this makes up for it. we can pretend like we’re sitting on the beach,” you held up the seashell, showing it off before you set it down on the ground near your plates. you were talking really loudly, but you didn’t actually notice, it was like a part of you wanted to make absolutely sure she could hear you.

“let’s eat!”

you ate in silence, you weren’t hungry, not at all. your appetite was completely gone. she would probably be asking for your food right now, saying she was done with hers and that she was still really hungry. then you would look at her for a long time, staring into her pleading eyes with a stoic expression before you brought the food to your mouth and ate it, trying to maintain your serious expression as she groaned about how mean you were for that.

how you wished she was here.

once you were done eating you pushed your plate to the side, moving her untouched one as well. you sat up onto your knees, crawling over to the headstone and turning around to put your back to it.

“now its like i’m giving you a piggyback ride, right sash?”

silently, tears rolled down your cheeks again, the salty liquid dropping onto the ground and dissapearing into the earth. you tugged your knees up to your chest, hugging them as you buried your head into your knees. you weren’t sure when, but you started sobbing, cries muffled by your legs as you gripped even tighter onto your legs. you just wanted to hold her, you just wanted her here,

your light was gone, whatever hope you still had in you left the second she did.

after a while you lifted your head up, tear stained face facing up towards the sky. you laughed. with whatever energy you had left in you to do so, you laughed and smiled as you looked up at the sky. up into the clouds. up into where sasha was. she would want you to smile, to laugh, you remembered that night again, where she told you not to say such sad things when she was trying to enjoy her meat. she would’ve said the same thing now. so you forced out that laugh, forced out that smile. for sasha.

“i kept my promise sasha,”

hopefully, she heard you.

I’m sorry I answered late! I didn’t forget but I just got busy and it took a long time looking at their relationship as a whole to put this together. I’ve broken their possible relationship phases into years from 2013 -2020. This is by no means all of it, I’ve only included events which I believe is a sort of indicator of their relationship at that point of time.

Also, as usual, disclaimer. This is all a product of my observations only and I don’t claim anything. Feel free to disagree and point out if something is off. All the events are true, my speculations are just speculations. I might add on more details and make it more complete and post in a separate post.

When Tae first met Jin, he did a grinding dance against him because he was told to make a first impression. He must have found Jin attractive to be able to grind against him at first meet. In the comments section of the video, someone commented that “No straight male would ever grind against a stranger older male no matter WHO tells him to”. I agree with this wholeheartedly and this is the earliest indication that he might have ‘fallen in love’ at first sight, if not, there was definitely physical attraction on his end first.

Tae’s crush is extremely obvious. He looks at Jin like Jin holds the stars and galaxies during their vlogs. He’s still in his awkward teenager phase with hormonal tendencies, most of the time he has little control over his moods and actions. He has self confessed to being the “troublemaker” at their dorm and his emotions go into overdrive that Jin often has to calm him down. In his Rookie King profile, he says “Jin hyung takes care of me, he always calms me down when I’m being unpredictable” Jin gets his nickname ctrl-V from this. This would explain him humping Jin unabashedly while they’re playing the piggyback game in Rookie King ep 8 and also asking Jin to shower together; he doesn’t know how to control his crush, so he’s expressing his feelings in his own unique ways.

Jin acknowledges that he is the closest to Tae, and spends the most time with him. He talks about Tae with huge fondness and adoration. I don’t know what goes on in the mind of 21 year old Jin to be announcing that Tae asked to shower with him then confirming that they did. Unfortunately, he doesn’t seem to notice that Tae actually minded and felt embarrassed about Jin telling this to their fans. He may have subconsciously developed feelings slowly but doesn’t know it till much much later as he’s transitioning into his adult phase and has a lot on his plate during early debut days.

Tae and Jin posted questionable tweets saying “It starts from today!” on Kiss day in Korea. As the name suggests, it’s an unofficial romantic celebration for couples or to-be-couples to kiss. This is the same day they had a radio interview where they were asked to describe their ideal types. Jin says he likes a girl who can cook and clean, two things he’s good at. Tae tries to describe a girl who can take care of him well, but his eyes are anxiously flitting to Jin. He looks and sounds so baby that the radio hosts ask him if he’s a mama’s boy so he ends up saying his ideal type is a girl who is like a mother. There’s a good chance he was actually trying to describe Jin’s nickname ctrl-v.

Then Jin talks about Tae’s sleeping habits and in doing so reveals that the both of them sleep next to each other in the same bed often. Funny enough, the both of them discover that they share the same sleeping habits. (They have opposite attracting personalities, both are winter babies, many shared hobbies and many similar habits even when unconscious. What are the chances?) Tae’s crush grows deeper, but Jin’s expressions don’t reveal much. He took a relatively long period of time trying to figure himself out and what Tae really is to him.

Jin is okay with sitting in Tae’s lap but he’s not okay with holding hands while they play the game. He’s also sputtering “Where do you think you’re touching?” when Tae goes for his nipples. (In comparison, the others also attacked each other’s nipples and they were completely fine). Also, Yoongi seems to be the first to notice that something is “off” with Taejin.

A whole 20 seconds from this Gayo episode is enough to show how whipped Tae is for Jin physically and emotionally. Jin exposing his world wide shoulders in a tight fitting shirt is enough to throw Tae’s mind into chaos. Also a pretty good indicator that they definitely weren’t a couple at this point of time. Their feelings might not have been mutual yet but Jin would have to be incredibly dense to not notice Tae’s blatant crush on him.

An emotional roller coaster year. It is likely that if they started a relationship, this is the most fitting year. Otherwise there’s no logical explanation for their behaviour during BV1 and the end year MAMA performance. It was not smooth sailing, there were many on and off moments throughout this year to early 2017.

31 Mar 2016 Hwarang filming began (Ended in Sep)

Tae gets exposure to a new circle of friends outside of BTS (Hwarang hyungs) who he could really connect to. He turns 21, an age where he’s growing up rapidly mentally and is transitioning into his adult phase. Tae’s juggling his time between his Hwarang hyungs and BTS members. Much later we learn from Jimin that Tae had been spending more time and giving more attention to the Hwarang gang and they felt sad about it. Also Tae’s ‘jealousy’ deepens specifically when he sees Namjin getting friendly or Jin giving JK extra attention. Whatever they were at this point of time, he can’t flaunt it but has to endure watching his other half be friendly or touchy with others. He’s learning more and more about himself and his relationships with others.

17 May 2016 BV1 filming

Taejin was going through some rough patches during filming. They were both distant, there was friction between them. Jin was frustrated and out of it most of the time, he channeled his frustration into their fake fight. He also wore Tae’s torn pink shirt despite not making eye contact nor talking. Then he hugged Tae for so long out of nowhere. Near the end they were distant again. There was definitely ongoing conflict from the start to the end of BV1 filming. Tae was stuck to JK and Jin to Yoongi.

10 Oct 2016 Stigma released

In Wings album, Stigma was released as Tae’s solo song. Namjoon has explained that he admittedly does not know too much about Stigma so he doesn’t want to speculate too much about it, only that it has a personal significance for Tae himself.

At the end of 2016, we were blessed with the most epic performance of BST with Tae feeling Jin up on stage. They get very touchy sitting next to each other, couldn’t keep their hands off each other and flirt heavily. Both of them run late to receive their award and they’re so flustered that it’s hard to think nothing happened backstage. This is why Taejinnies say they’re either on or off, there’s no in between. They’re either all over each other or standing at opposite ends of the room.

This vlive shows Taejin’s dynamics shifting again after their BV1 conflict happened. Throughout the whole gift exchange, notably Tae is in ‘dominance’, because he manhandles and hugs Jin close to him a lot. It’s usual that Jin allows Tae to do whatever he wants to him, it’s not so usual that Tae would insistently and physically be this possessive and clingy.

In the behind the scenes, Jimin, Tae and Jin bicker over Tae giving more love and attention to his Hwarang hyungs and not enough for BTS. They may say it jokingly, however there’s probably some truth to it as during this period, Jimin and Jin are often seen paired together and they get closer during Tae’s absence.

Once again, it’s Jin who reveals stories about them sleeping together. If he really wanted Tae to stop, he wouldn’t ‘complain’ about this in a broadcast and expose him further. It’s only appropriate to tell the person directly. What he really did was to announce that Tae sleeps with him in the same bed often. Again. Albeit he turned it into a joke since it was filming for TV. That said, I still don’t actually understand what intentions he had to announce their sleeping habits to the general public because Jin is the type of person who is good at keeping secrets and he only says things he wants people to know. Which means, he wants us to know that Tae is still sleeping with him since debut, but why? Laying his claim on Tae maybe?

By now, it’s apparent that even though Jin is the one who’s more wary of the camera and is sneakier about his secret gazes at Tae, he does grander love confessions on a huge scale.
