I caught a potential Freeze-Frame Bonus in “Satellite Mysteries/Secretos Satelitales”, one that’s more subtle than the rest.
Tumblr media
Goldheart naturally looks at the reporter during the interview, except for the very last frame before the TV fully shuts off.
When he looks directly at the camera.
Tumblr media
Or, perhaps, directly at the one turning off the TV?
Tumblr media
We don’t know what Goldheart’s powers are yet; all we have to work from is Flug’s dream in “The Dreadful Dawn/El Atroz Amanencer”, which we can’t take 100% literally because it’s a dream.
Tumblr media
Flight and super strength are common in superhero stories, so Goldheart probably does have those, though I doubt he’s as strong as dream!Goldheart’s exaggerated physique suggests.
Goldheart might literally glow, or dream!Goldheart’s glowing may just be symbolic of how Flug feels “outshined” by him. The simplified colors and generic pose make him look like a 2D paper cutout- perhaps Flug thinks Goldheart’s motivations for becoming a hero are “flat” or “shallow”. After all, the eyes are the windows to the soul, and dream!Goldheart’s eyes are blank.
Tumblr media
A hero lights the way- to goodness, to order, to peace. But light that’s too bright can be blinding. What can Flug see about Goldheart that others are blind to? What is this hero of light hiding?
Flug already knew Goldheart was planning something. What shocked him at the beginning of “The Heedeous Heart/El Corazón Cruel” was that Cecilia was working with/for Goldheart.
Tumblr media
Flug’s concern for her isn’t just because they were friends; he knows Goldheart’s plan is bad news and is worried for her because she’s gotten mixed up in it.
Tumblr media
If the pile of hair and crumpled flower in Flug’s dream are anything to go by, he’s worried Goldheart’s plan to “end villainy forever” will kill not only his villainous friend coworker, but also his innocent son. He may worry Goldheart will target Cecilia too, even though she can’t do any further harm from prison. But how will Goldheart do it?
Perhaps Goldheart has another power- something he can keep hidden because it’s not as obvious as flight or strength or glowing. Something that doesn’t seem heroic, something that could put his angelic reputation into question if others found out about it.
Tumblr media
(Look at this fucker. Two profile pictures with halo imagery? He couldn’t be any more suspicious if he went around with a megaphone yelling “I AM GOOD AND PERFECT AND DEFINITELY NOT PLANNING ANYTHING UNDERHANDED. I AM A HERO. TRUST ME.”)
Light can also mean knowledge, information, revealing that which is secret. Goldheart’s hidden power is telepathy- he can look into someone’s “heart” and see their desire to help or harm, to be good or evil. And that he keeps it secret means he doesn’t get permission from his targets before poking around their psyche for nasty thoughts and impulses.
This is a kid’s show so Goldheart won’t kill those he deems too evil (on purpose...), but he might further refine Flug’s research into emotional manipulation to keep them perpetually docile, robbing them of their free will in a more subtle way than Cecilia did.
Tumblr media
Perhaps due to their bond, he’s been able to slowly worm his way into Flug’s head over a distance. I wonder how angry Black Hat would be with Flug if he handed over the rest of his research just because Goldheart “asked nicely”...
Goldheart’s plan is destined to fail, as he is severely missing the point. Good and evil aren’t just desires, they are choices people make! A retail worker isn’t a bad person if they want to jam a potato peeler in the eye of the 83rd irritating customer they’ve had to deal with today, they’re only a bad person if they actually act on it. And just as bad desires don’t necessarily make a bad person, good desires don’t necessarily make a good person. Goldheart’s desire to end villainy is admirable, but doing it like this is not.
Hopefully the plan will fail because he’ll realize the error of his ways and decide to stop, but it’s also possible he’ll devote himself to the plan at the cost of his own wellbeing, overexerting his telepathy and permanently disabling it.
Tumblr media
Cecilia’s plan backfired on her too, after all...
