Blackwall and Sera banter can actually be something very personal 🤌🏻🤌🏻🤌🏻 I love that Blackwall is one of the people who genuinely enjoys the type of person Sera is and is the more open in those times.

They're definitely my favourite but I would say I also love Sera and Bull for the one braincell they share that's exclusively used to mayhem or Dorian and Vivienne bc I love it when they snark at each other, but deep down there is genuine sense of comradery.

Can you imagine any of your OTPs being in a poly or open relationship? I'd love to here your thoughts on which and why yes or not.

I’ve been sitting on this ask for a while, just, like, putting off actually answering it.

So, first off I’m a BIG fan of triads/threesomes in general.  Less so just wide open relationships, though I’m not, like AGAINST it.  Just less personally interested in it.  (I’ve seen SO MUCH poly drama in my RL that though people I love and care about are dedicated to that life, I kinda want to scream and run the opposite direction.)

But let’s get specific: Wangxian...nope.  They are both FAR too possessive to ever make that work.  Like I try to imagine it working on even a really limited, one-time kinda basis and just...nope, Lan Wangji would lose his shit.

My other MDZS OTP is 3zun, which basically already qualifies.  I could even imagine it being more open than just the three of them in the right situation.  They are already so complicated and messy with the various emotional connections between them you might as well add more.

Wenzhou, my current obsession, mmm, Wen Kexing is canonically jealous as fuck and vaguely murderous towards anyone ZZS even talks nicely to, so...probably not.  Though after a certain period of established relationship, POSSIBLY I could see them involving someone else in, like, a kinky way.  Probably not someone emotionally important, but a temporary partner perhaps.

Victuuri...that’s an interesting question.  I think they may somehow be the most emotionally mature of all my OTPs, SOMEHOW, and so...perhaps.  I could see it but probably not having equal emotional connection to each other.  More like maybe sleeping with a friend sort of thing, I could definitely see them going in that direction.  But actually DATING anyone else I can’t see.

Other OTPS:

Narumitsu aka Phoenix Wright/Miles Edgeworth (the forever OTP) - It really depends on what you headcanon as the progress of their relationship because they have what could be either a five year gap where they very well may have dated other people OR they could have been long distance during that time and I could see being open as well.  I know the people who have Wright with Kristophe Gavin in some capacity during this time would probably agree.  So...given the right circumstances, maybe.

Jupeter aka Juno Steel/Peter Nureyev (The Penumbra Podcast) - Totally.  Like, again, they have so much on again/off again to them and they’re both, like, such canonically big sluts, that 100% I could see that.  Though if they haven’t quite worked out everything between themselves then Peter’s insecurity issues might become a problem.

Oh, I thought of one that, while totally an OTP, I’ve never written but WOULD qualify.  Adoribull or The Iron Bull/Dorian.  I totally think they would be open/poly.  I mean Bull is basically canonically poly (and pan) in the game and though they are ASSUMED to make a commitment to each other in the same way both their characters do in their romances, they are separated a good amount of the time and I think they’d be flexible.  

My problem in general here is that in real life I believe in healthy communication and not being possessive and jealous of your partner/the importance of trust...in fiction I find jealousy really hot.  So a lot of my OTPs tend to be jealous and possessive types.

Character breakdown. Uh.... Dorian Pavus

How I feel about this character

Dorian is one of two characters with high achievements in their fields. Him and Vivienne pack a punch. But him less so than Vivienne because he was afterall an apprentice to Gereon. BUT still he had a hand in making the time magic work and did his best to stop it too. That takes some guts and I admire his dedication to that.

Also the scene with his father - I took personally. Because growing up having my parents actually admit they were wrong and apologize?... never happened. So for Dorian to hear him out is a way for him to witness his father’s progression and sincerity - even if he didn’t accept it in the end - he could still see it. It’s an example of when to admit you’re wrong and apologize for the behavior and he heard him our. 

All the people I ship romantically with this character

I...only ship Dorian with one person - and thats my Inquisitor Luther Trevelyan. It’s weird... Like I can sorta write background Adoribull - but Adoribull is my NOTP. My Inquisitor has a very unique background when paired with Dorian’s its....well its something. Anyway...yeah sorry I don’t really ship Dorian with anyone else romantically. I prefer to focus on his magical-scientific achievements in writing anyway.

My non-romantic OTP for this character

Non-romantic OTP? With Vivienne hands down. I don’t mean it in a sexual way either. I mean it more as a researcher’s pairing. If there wasn’t magic - these two would be the leading the fields in a scientific laboratory AND be well dressed to boot. They would take the scientific world by storm with their breakthroughs. Dorian with time magic and Vivienne with health/youth regenerative.

My unpopular opinion about this character

I think Dorian uses alcohol and drinking and being drunk the night before as a way to have an excuse for why he sleeps with me - in case they react badly. A defense mechanism really - something he had to do in Tevinter to avoid the backlash. 

One thing I wish would happen / had happened with this character in canon.

I wish we could have asked if Dorian was alright after hearing the banter about him and Bull.

23. Name a fic you’ve written that you’re especially fond of & explain why you like it.

I’ve been thinking a lot about Cargo lately. It’s the I wrote this for me story: total crackship, unreliable narrator, psychological horror. I incorporated a lot of ideas from Cargo in Highwater, with the mairan scenes, the deaf protagonist, some more stuff I’ll be introducing later. I’d never written Star Wars fic and I was really daunted by a new fandom, especially with a totally obscure rarepair. I said this recently but I learned so much in terms of technique from Cargo, but mostly I learned that it’s ok to write the weirdest, nichest thing for yourself. Someone might love it and lots of people won’t touch it with a ten-foot pole, but I revisit chapters from Cargo all the time. All my subsequent Star Wars works are better for it.

50. How did you get into reading and/or writing fanfiction?

The first fanfic I remember reading was the Very Secret Diaries! A friend sent it to me, although I didn’t do any LotR fandom beyond that. I read/wrote a little bit for movies I loved as a teen like Underworld and Pirates of the Caribbean, but my first deep dive into fandom was RPF (which is why I will occasionally refer to being back on my bullshit) and honestly, nothing shocks you after that.

I’m gonna assume you all found your way here via that screenshot of a youtube comment about Raishan I made a few years ago. A post I did not make, but my dear friends tagged me on it and I got like 60 followers since then, so yay! Follow @notaficwriter​, @returnofismasm​ and  @yashas-strong-arms​ for similar takes and the full vex loving and caleb critical quartet :)

Which brings me to the point of this post and also What I Am About

On this blog, we love, adore, and stan Laura Bailey, Lady Vex’ahlia de Rolo who deserved better from almost everyone, and also Jester.

We ship Beaujester the most, but all the shit being flung around by people angry about perceived queer baiting and thinking we’re in an anime fandom back in approximately 2009 make us defend Fjorester all the time, and also it’s kinda cute.

In fact my personal ideal ship is this pretty butterfly shaped polycule:

I have yet to say a nice thing about Caleb. Not because I hate him or Liam but because the character just does literally nothing for me. Take your angstyness and go away. It’s okay. I understand.

Sometime I reblog Overwatch things. I have recently descended into the e sports hole because D&D is not rock bottom of nerdiness anymore.

Sometimes I write for The Fandomentals.com, where we have been critically analyzing what a steaming pile of shit GoT is before it was cool.

I have a long and painful past in anime and anime adjacent fandoms and participated in many a shipwar in my times. The occasional Naruto post might happen, and if you have a problem with SasuSaku, tell that to my poor 12 year old’s face by travelling back in time and also thinking about your life choices.

(Boruto does not exist. The manga ended with chapter 699 and nothing after that ever happened)

In a similar vein, my Avatar OTP is also controversial, but I have been standing by Zutara for a decade and y’all are never gonna stop me.

More current things I might post about are She-Ra, where we stan the hell out of Catra, Adora, and Catradora and praise our blessed bear mom.

There’s also the Fruits Basket reboot which makes me cry weekly or whenever I find the time to catch up. I’ve been into this since 2003 and the pain train never stops.

In a similar vein, there’s probably some Dragon Age going on here. Pro-mage, all-mage player, romancer of tragic blond dudes. I also spent about half a year constantly prepared to drop a three page essay about why Adoribull is not abusive, so don’t even get me started.

Okay, well I’m not sure what “involved in” means, but I’ll try!! I’ve written actively for Dragon Age, Horizon: Zero Dawn, The Last of Us, and Red Dead Redemption 2, and for some fandoms, I have more than one OTP. So here goes:

DA: Solas x Sene Lavellan and Adoribull, both of which I write in The Dead Season; Also, Ameridan x Sene Lavellan, who star in Last Call and Solas x Ghilan’nain, who star in Teen Wolf.

HZD: Aloy x Nil, who I write in Zero, and I hope to finish this someday, esp if/when a sequel is announced.

TLOU: No romantic OTPs, Joel and Ellie are a platonic, found family OTP. I have a couple little one-shots for them.

HZD: Aloy x Avad (It’s not an unpopular ship, which is cool. But I’m personally not a fan of the Sun King.)

TLOU: Joel x Ellie (this one legit freaks me out though)

RDR2: Arthur x Dutch (I have come around to Dutch quite a bit and even sort of have a light redemption arc lined up for him in my fix-it, but even then, I can’t find any avenue into romantic tension between him and Arthur.)

23. Name a fic you’ve written that you’re especially fond of & explain why you like it.

I think my fondness for my writing is hugely spur of the moment, and I think with each piece I write, I get better. Right now, I’m quite proud of The Lily Farm, as it is a long fic that feels cohesive across nearly all fronts, and like it’s building toward something concrete. The Dead Season, which I enjoyed writing immensely and am still SUPER proud of, takes quite a long time to come together, if you ask me, and as I was writing it, I was still very awkward with plot and far less wiling to make big choices. But now, I feel like I am just going for it. Things are always happening. My characters are always acting and taking risks. Every scene has multiple layers dedicated to both plot and character and nothing goes wasted. I have longterm plans that I can see playing out coherently and organically. I’ve done a much better job with planning this time and sticking to my plan (more or less), and I think, in the fic, it really shows. 

I am also super proud and fond of my latest RDR2 one-shot Yours, Sadie Adler. It was a difficult piece to construct, because it has alternating time periods. I also wrote it super fast, so like my editing skills were pretty honed. I don’t normally like to do stuff like this, like I prefer that stories just be told linearly, but this time, I sort of needed the flashback focus. It was hard, because I was trying to create all sorts of weird tensions. I had to create tension between the past and the present, but then also within the past and within the present. I had to create tensions between tensions--so like, Sadie’s hat is this crazy symbol, and it is there to show the tension between her love for Arthur and her love for Jake, and it represents the unification of her grief in a way. To make this work, I had to sort of carefully plan the “reveal” of the hat without making it Cinematic or Dramatic. I wanted it to be subtle, as I believe everything about Sadie and romance is a little bit subtle. Like she says in the story, she’s not a woman of “frills.” But she does have a softness to her. So the hat was there to sort of mediate between her own way of experiencing love and grief with the rough and tough exterior she has created for herself. Anyway, I am proud of it, and I’m glad people liked it, too.

Oh boy, I’m excited to share this! Thank you, anon! Everyone, have some Adoribull for @dadrunkwriting!

The night air is chilly over Skyhold. Chilly is perhaps an understatement, for the wind on the parapets is positively biting. Snow covers the surrounding mountains like a frozen blanket, and frost clings to the plants and trees in the courtyard.

Dorian shivered and drew his cloak closer to his body. Why was everything in Ferelden so fucking cold?!

“How you holdin’ up?” Bull’s rough, deep voice pierces the cold air and makes it warm. He always brings warmth and ease and a sense of comfort wherever he is, damn the man to the Fade. And Dorian couldn’t help but be drawn into that warmth, fool that he is.

“Freezing my pert arse up here, thanks for noticing,” Dorian snipes back, retreating into the familiarity and comfort of snark. It was always easier to put up barbs and keep himself from harm. Bull, however, doesn’t seem to notice. No, Dorian corrected himself as Bull approached and stood next to him on the wall, his massive frame blocking the easterly wind. Bull noticed the thorns and didn’t seem to mind.

“It’s a nice ass,” Bull agreed conversationally. “It’d be a shame if it froze.”

“Are you propositioning me?” Dorian asked, because how else was he supposed to take that? Just because he and Bull had tumbled in the sheets a few times- well fine. Perhaps it was more than a few times. Perhaps it was becoming a thing, and Dorian didn’t know how to deal with things and feelings without it all going to shit like always- sex with The Iron Bull wasn’t supposed to mean anything beyond sex!

Somehow the meaning had grown and changed. What was Dorian to do? Best to grow more thorns. Best to grow cold. Best to freeze. It was all for the best, because when you were Dorian Pavus everything you touched went to shit.

“You know I’d do better than that,” Bull said with a laugh. “But I won’t get a chance to prove it if you freeze to death. C’mon inside.”

Dorian sighed and leaned against the icy cold stones of the outer wall. He squinted into the dark wilderness and tried to subtly shift closer to Bull’s frame. He was warm, after all.

“Do you think he’s out there watching? Corypheus, I mean,” Dorian asked. “Right now?”

“He probably has some agents trying to get close, but the Commander keeps pretty tight patrols, never mind what Leliana’s up to. And I’ve got my eye on it too,” Bull said easily. “But yeah. Big red fucker’s watching as best he can. You don’t try to become a god and then ignore the only people in your way.”

“Comforting,” Dorian replied dryly. “I’ll sleep well tonight.”

“You’ll sleep better when you’re inside,” Bull stated firmly, “but I can tell you’re havin’ some deep broods, so….” Bull reached into the pocket of his absurd pants, pulled out a small, silver colored flask, and placed it into Dorian’s hands.

“Whiskey. Might keep your delicate fingers warm. Finish it up, then get inside and rest,” Bull ordered, and he ambled away before Dorian could protest or shove the flask back. Just like Bull to march in, ease his way into a conversation, give orders, and casually walk away knowing his will would be carried out.

“Typical,” Dorian snorted as he unscrewed the top and sipped the contents. The whiskey burned his throat as it went down, and he felt warmth.

Tbh even with a pentagram, a blood sacrifice, a signed contract for my firstborn and some feathers from an angel I can still only call up a WIP that will never be finished.

(There are old fics I really love, like the Civil War series by Sushi - but the fact remains that I have also read those series about 200 times over 17 years ah well - and yes like it gets really specific like I don’t want Snape/Harry in a post-Voldemort-won-and-is-okay fics and I don’t want Snape/Harry in a ‘Tom Riddle isn’t so bad’ world and I don’t want Snape/Harry where like, I feel like I’m reading a 16 year old’s first fic and they don’t know dialogue yet, and I don’t mind dubcon if it’s done in a way I like it etc. etc. etc. Anyway I don’t know your specific parameters but yes I empathise very much with how hard it can be to find those three golden needles in four hundred haystacks).

(And so many promising fool’s-gold needles. So many. So many fics where I’ve read 40k and then just said ‘Pia why are you doing this to yourself’ followed by weeping as I try the next one, and the next one, and the next one, and doing it all over again. It’s genuinely the worst fandom to find specific OTP flavoured fics partly because oversaturation, partly because the fragmentation or flat out deletion of the old/best communities and partly because of other reasons, to say nothing of the fact it’s where a lot of people got started in fanfiction, including myself, so you get a lot of glaring newbie fic, which is great for newbie fic writers, but not great for me, who wants very specific types of fic written to very specific standards that I could actually fairly easily find in other newer fandoms like Thorki/Marvel or Adoribull/Dragon Age).

For the ship ask - not sure if I'm too keen on this ship anyway, but I was surprised I couldn't find any fanfic of it (maybe I'm not looking hard enough) - Cullen/Dorian/Bull

Okay, not sure if you’re asking about them as a polymance, or just a combination of any two, so I’ll just answer for both.

Cullrian: 1 NOTP; this makes me really uncomfortable because Cullen literally has abilities to make mages submit, and I’m not saying he’d ever use them against a lover, but it still makes me uncomfortable that the powers are there. The artwork people do for them is super pretty, though, and I’m not here to shit on someone’s ship. So, if you like it, ship away.

Adoribull: 4, 5 They’re kind of cute, and I ship a little; I’m torn because I like both Dorian’s and Bull’s romantic plots, and my canon Quizz is with Bull, so I don’t think I could ever consider it an OTP (my canon Quizz is a girl, so no OT3 with them).

Bull/Cullen: 3 I can see why others like it, but it’s not my taste; Bull really respects Cullen as a warrior, but I don’t think I could ship them solely because of that.

Bull/Dorian/Cullen Polymance: 2 Don’t see it; Is this a thing? Do people ship this? I’m not even joking. I have never seen the three of them in a polymance. But then again, I don’t read a lot for DAI stuff.

4. Do you have a NoTP in your fandom? Are they a popular OTP?*

OHOHO BOY DO I EVER. I used to be neutral on Adoribull, actually, despite finding it maybe a tiny bit skeevy, but I’ve seen some of its more vocal fans say some seriously rude things (‘i think dorian is happier with bull than he is with the inquisitor’, etc.) that just soured the whole thing for me, as a Dorianmancer who’s prone to petty jealousy.

And something about Cullrian just kind of nags at me too, but I can’t exactly place it. I just get a “because it’s two dudes the fangirls find super hot” vibe from it and I just cannot for the life of me rationalize how it would even happen.

9. Most disliked character(s)? Why?

I actually don’t outright dislike any of the characters in the series, or at least the most prevalent ones. Non-companion NPCs are so minor that I feel like actively disliking any of them is a waste of energy, at least in my case where energy is at a premium.

At worst I tend to be really indifferent about Morrigan at times, or at least her inclusion in DA:I because befriending her in DA:O is fulfilling as hell

23. Unpopular character you love?

So I actually kind of like Sebastian? I mean “love” is a bit strong but I seem to like him more than most of the fandom does. I think he’d be more well recieved if he hadn’t been reduced to a post-release DLC character.

Also I feel bad for Jowan, like every decision he makes is terrible and he’s like a walking manifestation of bad luck, but he means well and I think he could’ve done good things if he was able to be conscripted. He just needs someone around to be like “hey Jowan maybe don’t do the thing you’re thinking about doing”
