listen. i know it's not 2014 anymore and i know it's just a throwaway line and that the russo brothers didnt intend for marvel action blockbuster captain america the winter soldier to become the tragic gay love story that never was but man. having steve say "it's kind of hard to find someone with shared life experience" in a conversation about romantic relationships right before the bucky reveal is so cruel. it's not just about steve and bucky obviously having the shared experience of being "out of time," it's the fact that they've both been stripped of their humanity in opposite directions. steve is a legend, he is an american hero and a national icon before he is a human being the same way that bucky is a weapon and a killing machine before he is a human being. steve knows that anyone who falls in love with him in the 21st century fell in love with captain america first, and that's just not him. but then the one person who knew him first and knew him best and loved him (not captain america, that little guy from brooklyn) so much he died for it is alive, impossibly. and it's a miracle because he's back and it's horrific because he's back under the worst possible circumstances. but to steve, the winter soldier is worth tearing the world apart for because he's always been bucky first. they find each other and suddenly they're human again. and maybe, despite it all, being "out of time" becomes a blessing, because in this century they'd finally be allowed to love each other the way they've always wanted to. like real people do.

like. no. the captain america trilogy isn't about two queer men traumatized and alienated by war and modern life rediscovering and reclaiming their humanity through their love for each other. but. i mean. it couldve been

Technically the Richmond coaches had two chances to move Jamie to center and then didn’t take it: once when Zava showed up and once when they switched everyone at practice.

Both times they assumed he wouldn’t do it

At the very least we know he was willing to do it the second time (he even asked if they meant to give him the same position), but honestly? The Jamie who came to them worried about the effect of Zava on the team might’ve done it too. He is well on board with being a team player at that point, which he also demonstrated many times in season two. He probably would’ve been hurt by it, but he would’ve agreed to do it

(Then we could’ve had a whole season deconstructing how Jamie conflates scoring with winning with value in a way that really isn’t healthy but I digress)

For the record I don’t think this would have fixed anything. They probably would’ve figured out how effective Jamie is in midfield sooner, but they still would’ve had Zava, and after Zava there would’ve been the tension of whether to keep Jamie where he was or have him step back up to striker, especially since they weren’t doing total football yet. In a lot of ways, having Jamie step up and volunteer for it later really sidesteps a lot of drama

I’m more so lamenting the fact that with Jamie, when it came to ‘be curious not judgmental, they chose to remain judgmental of his past behavior instead of curious about his new ones.

I am begging you guys, please please please watch shadow and bone if you can. Is the show completely book accurate?? Hell no. But, it’s still a wonderful series (Emmy fucking nominated) with a truly amazing cast and I still haven’t the slightest clue as to why it was cancelled.

SO, the chances of Netflix un-canceling the show are extremely slim yes. But Netflix sees when shows get watched more, when people re-watch and make things popular. So please watch the show🙏 it doesn’t deserve to be cancelled.

Steve is the only character we see on screen who attempts to apologize repeatedly within the narrative (I say “attempts” because he never makes it to Nancy in season 2). He apologizes to Jonathan and Nancy almost immediately in season 1 which is the entire reason he’s at the Byers house for the fight; he goes the Nancy’s house to apologize to her after she’s essentially told him she doesn’t love him which, again, is the whole reason he gets roped into the junkyard fight; when it becomes clear that Nancy has feelings for Jonathan and not him in season 2, he reassures her and tells her it’s okay even though she cheated on him (and this is not to vilify Nancy, I love her—but I know people argue that she didn’t cheat, but we do not see an actual breakup on screen); he apologizes to Robin in the bathroom (he doesn’t explicitly say the words “I’m sorry” if I recall correctly, but that’s essentially what’s happening, even after a week of being called stupid and a dingus, etc for really just being terrible at flirting with girls); when he hurts Dustin’s feelings in ST4 in the car he immediately apologizes to him. People are regularly calling him stupid and insulting him and we really never see anyone apologize to him (only Eddie! In the Upside Down! Who apologizes for making assumptions!). Even at the end of ST4, Jonathan is STILL insulting him, despite Steve protecting the kids at all costs even though he doesn’t have to at all (he’s not related to any of them, it would really just be 10x easier for him to walk away, but he DOESNT). I love Nancy Wheeler for sticking up for him there. Common Nance Wheeler W.

Like, I guess I just don’t really get why people really want to see him as a bully (even a former bully). If we take all the evidence we see on screen, his asshole behavior is really just being overly emotional/overreacting without communicating and being self-absorbed/self-centered to the point of not noticing people who are framed as outsiders by the narrative anyway. Typical teenage behavior??

Again it just seems like a disservice to both Eddie and Steve to create a bully dynamic between the two of them. I just don’t like it 😩😩😩

my inner demons would've easily been the best series on the aphmau channel if the daemos didn't act like children 95% of the time. the potential was THERE. ava was a great protagonist and the entire premise of the show was sooo good but ultimately fell flat due to almost all of the male cast being frustratingly clueless and stupid. it was beyond the point of being comedic and instead just annoying.
