One moment, the string that binds them together was unbroken. The next moment, it snapped. The string that binds Pepito to Em and Sunny snapped. It shouldn't have, really, but sometimes the universe is cruel.

Both sat bolt upright in their beds and scrambled to reach out for Pepito. Though, Em and Sunny could only find each other. Suddenly, it was very lonely.

Sunny had to cover their mouth again, keeping another visceral scream from escaping her throat. Just like they did when the string snapped before. She didn't want to wake anyone else in the house. With tear blurred vision, Sunny stumbled her way into Pepito's bedroom and laid in the bed. It was something akin to comfort.

Empanada didn't stop the tears falling down her cheeks as she looked down at her shaking hands. This is an awful feeling, is this what they felt before? She keeps trying to reach for Pepito, only finding Sunny again and again. She's supposed to be their protector. She wasn't there. She wasn't there for Pepito.

When the string repaired itself and the connection returned, Pepito could instantly feel Em and Sunny reaching out. There were a lot of emotions that hit Pepito, too, like despair and relief.

In the moments after, Pepito assured both Sunny and Em that Pepito would be okay. After all, Pepito is strong and resilient.

Is it even just a little funny that their string has snapped twice under the bright blue sky and not the deep red one?
