i remember it used to be a bit of a fandom pet peeve of mine that some people would forget that the gung ho guns and eye of michael were two separate groups with some membership overlap but then stampede came along and made the eom into a project of conrad’s backed by knives. another example of how the reboot feels like bad fanfiction.

#the eom worked best as a predominantly shadowy unknown group most closely tied to wolfwood and LR’s stories #i LIKED that we didn’t know who ran it or what their broader goals were outside of what contact they had with knives/the ghg #extradiagetically nightow just didn’t need to explore the eom in detail. they served their narrative purpose. #but i also find stories that try too hard to ask you bonus questions with overexplained answers to be very lame #so while prestampede it was kinda annoying but ultimately excusable to see ghg/eom used interchangeably #the new show cemented it them as interlinked in a way that actually made the story structure much weaker in an attempt to get ahead of you #this is all very much a critique of mine from the perspective of a writer not just a viewer btw #bad writing isn’t always enough to kill something yk. but plot holes are harder to excuse when your themes and structure are lacking #the manga’s Foundations were just much stronger than the reboot’s if you will #you can turn your brain off with this show and just watch the pretty colors if you want. absolutely no shame in that. we need that stuff #i guess i just struggle to accept a no brainer show like this as being another core leg of the story in the way trimax/98 are bc of it #pretentious of me i know. #stampede critical #for my followers that filter it

Ykno the common critique I've seen around is that trimax fights r hard to follow & such. And I've always had the kind of thought of like "I mean sometimes it can be confusing, but if u stop to study it it's really not that bad"

Having a fight analysis post kinda blow up tho I'm seeing ppl comment over and over in the tags about how hard it is to keep up with the fights... and I'm just like. Is it really that confusing? Like genuinely. I thought it was one of those overblown fan critiques but it seems like a Lot of people agree with it.

adachis side was perfectly analyzed in that meta i rbed earlier so i have nothing substantial to add but god for the 58302th time his Growth ..... even in ep 12 he had to get that push from tsuge to go meet w kurosawa but in the movie he could already tell kurosawa was putting up a front (and literally predicted it would happen as soon as he got the transfer offer) and he probs planned on talking abt it when he flied back to tokyo before the incident which is. ... .. and the look of determination on his face the entire time kurosawa finally broke down w no panic no overthinking like "I Am Going To Love And Cherish This Man So Hard" and comforting kurosawa w touch and no longer caring abt the magic that hes become reliant on for kurosawas sake. . Sorry to be talking about hxh on main again after all these years but i’m going slightly insane after the last update. After years of writing about how i believed the Kurta clan has been murdered probably because of the D-Hunter book Sheila had given Kurapika (this post more or less have the outline of the theory in it), while at this point we didn’t know anything about Sheila, the last chapter just. 

Showed that Sheila was a childhood friend of the Phantom Troupe???? That she was already reading the D-Hunter book then????

It’s not “theory confirmed” at all, at least not yet, but it’s at least setting pieces in a position that fits this theory again i’m going insane.

the other theory of the post i linked is also disproven this chapter re: regarding Sharlnark, but i don’t really care much about this part of the theory i linked, i’m just, only focusing on the book. I’ve been arguing for years that the Troupe must have attacked the village because of Sheila and the Book and the new chapter really just say “well, they DID know each other...? <3″ at me. been rereading black cat out of curious nostalgia bc it was one of my first (if not the first?) manga and it’s been wild. on the good hand we have the curious hilarity of a story where the villain is motivatedly Doing Stuff (but not, usually, in the protagonist’s direction) and the protagonist is determinedly, nose-to-the-ground completing sidequests while his old employers keep contacting him like PLEASE for the love of god fight the villain for us! you even said you wanted to kill him! and he’s like YEAH but that’s for LATER, leave me alone i’m only at 30/45 pinecones and i need to collect granny’s sheep for her. also the main character and his bounty hunter boyfriend being boyfriends, a few female characters that are pretty cool despite everything, and the villain being THE og unhinged bpd gay (tone: loving, affectionate, respectful) villain of all time, with some amazingly designed minibosses.

on the other hand the way it spends 5 seconds winking at complexity before just being like ‘the shady government-controlling assassin-employing organization the protagonist left is GOOD, actually, like a little edgy and we don’t want to WORK for them but definitely a necessary evil! and most of the people that work for it are good and noble! don’t worry about it! anyway, the villain group who wants to take them down/change the world in some way is EVIL, because. uhhhh. they kill people--oh wait chronos does that? uhhh they want to control the wo--oh that’s chronos’ goal? uhhhh. their leader is gay and they call each other ‘comrade’. oh, and here we’ll have them kick a few puppies real quick to get rid of any remaining complexity’. Oh Boy

i just finished playing through it!!! it was so unexpectedly sweet... while i am disappointed that amber and collei's reunion isn't as big of a focus as i'd thought it'd be, amber's remark abt collei needing a new friend (specifically someone who doesn't know about her past) felt very apt. i like how they're acknowledging that sucrose makes such a good friend specifically Because she didn't know collei at the time of the manga & i like how it metaphorically helps tie in with her theme of rebirth... overall their relationship comes as a warm surprise to me :-]

#i do have some like pettier nitpicks since i'm not especially fond of hwo they keep downplaying what happened in mondstadt #collei referring to her actions as immature and thinking that she was an awful person and not just. a severely traumatized child trying to #cope with the tremendous anger inside of her #from the way that htey're tackling it like. you can definitely choose to interpret it as an internalized belief on collei's part #& well she's obviously still struggling w her self hatred (which is extremely evident by how windblume is progressing so far) #but like. idk how to verbalize it. it feels like a weird way to go about referencing her manga counterpart #its like her self hatred is being directed towards the fact that she has a very withdrawn and shy disposition #rather than what she actually did in mondstadt to potentially gain the ire of its inhabitants & also like. For all this site’s (completely valid, true, and fun) mocking of and contempt for christianity many people on here are on a similar high horse of moral excellence/purity over others for the smallest things and if you don’t have their exact same mindset then you’re a heartless person

Like okay for example ppl on here will see a post like “ugh, the person ahead of me in line today was so slow and took forever, kind of a drag” and type out a 5 paragraph response on how heinously ableist and ageist that minor statement was, how disgusting that person is to act like the whole world should serve them specifically, the entitlement, etc. It’s not that deep. Petty, minor impatience/annoyance/frustration are extremely human things. Or all the posts on here that say “if you find kids annoying how dare you, you’re a fucking callous person, and again also ableist, people who don’t like kids are a sinister class of people.” Kids annoy the absolute shit out of me, and generally I don’t want to be around them. But kids also really like me, because despite my personal annoyance I understand, first of all, they are a child, it’s what they do. And I’m mature enough to know that me being annoyed doesn’t mean the other person is actually doing something wrong nor do I have the right to be mean to them in response. I still treat kids with respect and like human beings with valid and valuable thoughts, feelings, and perspectives.

Idk. It’a probably the inability of not just this site but people at large to grasp nuance and to not jump to (usually extreme?) conclusions.
