AU Master Post!
I realized I have LOTs of little AU's floating around on this blog. SO I thought it was a good idea to collect all the ones I find and make a master post!
Half for you guys and half for me. Because sometimes I come across them again and go OH YEAH and start adding to them again! :D I've organized these as best I can for now. Some of the tags are just for general AU's without any specific story. Those AU's I'll leave with just the tag and link. Some may only have 1 post in the tag at the moment. Others will have more story or detail to them. I'll make sure to include a summary of what to expect on this post as well for those cases.
SO! Check out the AU list under the cut! Let me know if anything seems broken or if there's an AU I missed!
Mermaid AUs:
#Mermaid AU This is a catch all for any post relating to mermaids or undersea creatures. (You can also look for the tag #not sssf related to find the mermaid AU stuff that is not related to that LARGE AU)
#Sun Stone and Seafoam This is my largest AU on this blog. It is an ongoing story about the love between Wei Wuxian and the merman he found one day. You can also find these under the #Merji tag.
A loose Little Mermaid AU. Wei Wuxian and Lan Wangji fall in love only to be separated for 3 years due to fate and a wicked curse. The cost of magic is indeed high, but if it grants him his own legs, is it worth it? This story has its own masterpost as well
#Eelxian This is a smaller mermaid AU featuring Dragon Lan Wanji and Eel Merman Wei Wuxian.
#Pirate AU #Diver AU #Angel AU
Creature AUs:
#Foxji AU Lan Wangji is a white fox who tries desperately to fight his mischievous nature. One day he meets a crafty dragon who is determined to bring out Lan Zhan's playful spirit. As time goes by, Wei Wuxian is cast away from the noble dragons, his horns shattered in disgrace before he sadly loses his life. Time passes and one day a strangely familiar crow appears in Lan Wangji's life. Could it be?
#Bunxian AU Wei Wuxian is turned into a rabbit by a stray curse while a teenager in the Cloud Recesses.
#Ghost Au #Potatoji AU #Muppet AU #Animal AU
Modern AUs:
#Modern AU This is a catch-all tag for all modern au's.
#Skater AU Comes with a fic! (complete) Also known as the Honey Buns AU. I wrote this with my fiancee. This is a modern AU that is 80% fluff with a crime drama going on in the background. But since it's told from the protagonists perspective, it doesn't really come to light until the end.
#Flight Attendant AU Also seen under the Travel AU tag. Lan Wangji has to unwillingly go on a business trip and he hates it. That is until a rather attractive flight attendant catches his eye! Too bad they'll never meet each other again... or will they?
#East Side AU It's a fic! (incomplete) Finally cracking under the pressure of being perfect, Lan Zhan decides to run away from home. He takes the bus to the end of the line, not knowing where he's going to go next. He wanders to the river where he finds a homeless boy, an orphan like him, who changes his life. After convincing him to go back home, the two stay in touch and together they change each other's lives.
#Ice Skater AU #Ballet AU #Vacation AU
Fantasy AUs:
#SoE It's a fic! (incomplete) After years of hiding and running after the war Wei Wuxian, the Demon of Yiling, is finally found and captured. Sentenced to death, he is saved at the last moment by claim on his hand. In order to repay a life debt, Lan Wangji offers to marry Wei Wuxian in exchange for his life. Knowing that Lan Wangji does not love him, Wei Wuxian accepts the offer.
#Princeji AU #Sleeping Beauty AU #Howl AU #Witch AU
Canon Adjacent AUs
#Drowning AU Lan Wangji does not notice in time to avoid Wei Wuxian tipping his boat, and ends up falling into the depths of Biling Lake
#Feelings AU This is a catch-all tag for any AU where Wei Wuxian realizes either Lan Wangji's or his own feelings earlier than in the original story
#Adoption AU #Time Travel AU #Da Ge Lives AU #New Baby AU #Killer JC AU #Tinyji AU #Childhood Friends AU

Viewing Disney’s Peter Pan Through the Eyes of an Adult
Recently, I’ve seen several posts floating around talking about how Disney’s Hook is difficult for people to take seriously and is much too comical for what Barrie had intended. I grew up with Disney’s Hook. He was my first introduction to the character and the reason why I became interested in reading classic literature, writing fanfic, and seriously delving into the analysis of complex villainous/antagonistic characters, so he has a very special place in my heart and I’m prone to be quick to defend him. Rather than writing a long-winded reply to these individual posts, I decided to just make my own explaining why Disney’s Hook can be viewed as just as tragic and sympathetic as any other version. (You can also read some of my earlier posts defending Disney’s Hook here and here.)
*takes a deep breath* *cracks knuckles* Buckle up kiddos! You’re in for a long ride!
My view of Disney’s Hook as a tragic character lies primarily in my sympathy for him when he switches from a proud, elegant, dangerous character to a shivering mess of a man when the crocodile comes around. Let me attempt to elaborate--but first, a bit of a necessary digression.
Every film/book/play, etc. can be viewed from several perspectives. Typically, there is one character that we are meant to like and who becomes the primary focus of the story. Anyone who opposes that character is automatically an antagonist, if not a villain. Usually, even if the point of view is omniscient, we can still tell that it is not, perhaps, entirely objective in its portrayal of certain characters. This sort of situation happens all the time on the evening news--the interviewer is, in theory, supposed to be a neutral reporter on an incident, but it is often obvious that they favor one side of an issue over another, and as a result, the public's view of the situation and those involved is skewed. The lens through which we view a certain character tends to do the same thing. For instance, in Les Miserables (another favorite story of mine), Javert is viewed as an antagonist because the book is primarily concerned with the redemption story of Valjean; however, if the story was flipped and instead focused on the inspector's character and his transition from a strict legalist to a man so broken by the idea of morality that he commits suicide, he would, perhaps, be viewed instead as a tragic HERO instead of a tragic ANTAGONIST. Javert likely does many GOOD things in the name of the law as well during his career, but we don't see most of them because he isn't the main focus of the book. Similarly, I think Disney’s Hook can be more greatly appreciated as TRAGIC instead of COMICAL when we consider the lens through which we are viewing him.
Disney has always been geared toward children, so naturally, when they tell a story, they want the material to be attractive to a younger audience. This means not only that certain more frightening or upsetting elements of a story may be left out, edited, or altogether changed, but also that WE VIEW THE CHARACTERS THROUGH THE EYES OF A CHILD. (For example, in The Little Mermaid, King Triton's opposition to Ariel going to the surface world is presented in such a way that he seems extremely harsh when, in reality, he is father trying to keep his daughter safe. True, he DOES overreact, but remember, Ariel is only sixteen--not even LEGALLY an adult--and wants to run off with some guy she hasn’t even had a conversation with. But kids can relate to overbearing parents who, in a moment of disagreement, seem like they are being "mean," so that is how the audience sees Triton.) Peter Pan, especially, with its protagonist(s) as a child/children, really magnifies this perspective to the point where, unfortunately, some of the characters become almost caricatures of themselves. When children are legitimately afraid of something, they react one of two ways: Either they run from it/avoid it altogether, or they make-believe that whatever is frightening them is actually a lot less terrifying than it is so that they appear brave. I remember when I was younger, I used to be TERRIFIED of Monstro, the whale from Pinocchio. I couldn't watch the film without getting nightmares. But I didn't want to be afraid of watching the movie, so with my overactive imagination, I decided that I could fix that by turning him into a less scary version of himself and making him into an imaginary friend who more closely resembled Willy the anthropomorphic opera-singing whale from Make Mine Music than the terrifying creature we see in Pinocchio. Anyway, getting back to the point--I overcame my fear of the character by choosing to imagine that he was less scary than he was. This is what a lot of children do, and I think it's why Disney's Hook comes off as being comical.
The first time we see Disney Hook on screen, he actually comes across as pretty terrifying. He literally shoots his own crew member just because he didn't like the guy's singing! Rarely do we actually see Disney villains successfully kill another character on screen, but Hook does not even five minutes into his introduction. Immediately, we get the impression (or at least, a child should get the impression), that Hook is a genuinely dangerous guy. He also seems to regard his loss of a hand as "a childish prank," which further gives us the impression that he apparently has a pretty high pain tolerance and isn't afraid to do horrible, gruesome things to his enemies. If chopping someone's hand off is "childish," then what sort of serious damage does he inflict on his victims? However, this is Disney, and rather than having Hook gut someone or do something else which might scar a kid for life, we soon see he has a weakness...the crocodile. At this point, the Darling kids have been watching Hook for several minutes from their perch up on the cloud and are, probably, starting to have some second thoughts about fighting real pirates when they seem so scary...so what do they do? They do the same thing I did and turn him into a less-scary version of himself. They find his weakness and latch onto it. And since we're viewing things primarily from their perspective, that's how WE start to see Hook too. Hook's fear of the crocodile becomes comical for the audience because the Darling kids are trying to focus on that aspect of him so that they are can forget how terrifying he really is. We see this more frightening side of Hook come out a few more times, such as when he plans to blow up Pan's hideout...and at this point, we even catch a brief glimpse of the more sinister part of Smee when he asks Hook if it wouldn't be more humane for them to slit his throat...AND THIS IS SMEE WE'RE TALKING ABOUT HERE!!! The LEAST frightening of the pirates in ANY version. But I think Disney throws this in just to remind us that Smee is still a pirate, and if HE'S willing to do something THAT bad, Hook is a thousand times worse. However, for the most part, Hook still remains a rather softened, comical version of himself because we are viewing him through the child-lens. Remove that lens, though, and things become more complicated.
Forget, for a moment, that we are supposed to be rooting for the Darling children and Pan, and look again--not as a frightened child who is trying to laugh in the face of danger but as an adult who can feel Hook's pain. I remember one time when I was driving back from the airport in a busy city in the dark and the road was icy...I'm not used to driving in ice, and I'm a naturally nervous driver...At one point, I skidded into the next lane... I literally spent about the next hour hyperventilating, practically rocking myself back and forth, praying, and trying not to cry because I knew if I did I wouldn't be able to see the road. It was horrible... Take that sort of feeling, and I believe it's what Disney Hook is experiencing when the crocodile shows up. Through the "child-lens" it may be funny to see a frightening character in a vulnerable situation, but viewing it as an adult who understands just HOW helpless and terrified one feels in such a situation, you can't help but empathize with Hook. Every move he makes, every tremble in his voice, every look of absolute horror in his eyes tells you that he is not mentally or physically really functioning at the moment. He's on autopilot--he's in survival mode like a wild animal that freezes in hopes that it won't be seen by the approaching predator. Take away the crocodile's obviously silly "theme-music" and Hook's slightly overdone expressions, and you're left with something similar to what we see Hook experience in the novel near the end of the chapter, "The Pirate Ship." ("Very frightful was it to see the change that came over him. It was as if he had been clipped at every joint. He fell in a little heap...he crawled on his knees along the deck as far from the sound that he could go...'Hide me,' he cried hoarsely.") Now we can start appreciating him for the tragic villain that he is supposed to be.
Viewed through the eyes of the Darling children, Hook represents all that is frightening and bad about the grown-up world. If Peter is ice cream parties and summer vacations and catching fireflies in the dark, then Hook is cancer and broken dreams and being worried about being able to make enough money to put food on the table. Barrie, however, tells us that there is much more to both characters than that. Peter has a dark side--a selfish streak that forgets all pain at the cost of never learning from the past, never growing from his experiences and becoming a better person. He is stagnant not only in physically growing up but also in mentally facing reality, which is just as damaging as Hook's attitude of regretting a childhood apparently gone too soon. Hook, too, has a lighter side that loves soft music and flowers and other such things (representative of the good things about being an adult--falling in love, pursuing one's passions in a professional sense, having children of one's own). Disney, of course, doesn't quite do this to the same extent as Barrie since we're given a skewed view of the characters, but it DOES still make a few points which, when stripped of the "child-lens" effect, gives off a similar impression. Peter, for instance, brags to the mermaids at one point about cutting off Hook's hand and feeding it to the crocodile. Though we never get to hear him finish the tale, it is rather unsettling to think that Disney's Pan is capable of such horror. (Personally, no matter WHAT the circumstances of the situation were, I think any real-life child who took such great pleasure in slicing off a body part of another person and then having the presence of mind to feed said body part to a dangerous wild animal would probably be considered a psychopath in need of some SERIOUS counseling.) Disney, of course, glosses over this little inconvenience by having Hook show up before he can really get any further into the story. Again, the child-lens is going up; Wendy doesn't want to see this side of Peter, and neither does the child-based audience, so they choose to look away. However, we see a brief glimpse of this side of Pan again at Skull Rock. First, we see it resurface when he hands Smee a gun and then flies up directly in front of Hook--knowing that he can move out of the way in time. Again, through the child-lens of the audience, it seems funny to watch Smee doing his best (and failing terribly) to aim at Pan...but when you think about it from an adult's perspective, it's actually pretty disturbing. Peter legitimately wants Hook dead and doesn't care if it happens to be at the hand of one of his own crewmen (and arguably, in the Disney universe, Hook's only real friend). When Hook "dies," Peter simply takes the hat and says nonchalantly, "What a pity, Mr. Smee. I'm afraid we've lost the dear captain." It doesn't even phase him that a man might have just died and poor Smee is probably feeling absolutely HORRIBLE because it was (sort of) his fault. Even Wendy's child-lens falters a little here... While Peter is celebrating Hook's death, she at least, has enough of an adult's heart to have compassion on their fallen enemy and turn her face away with an, "Oh, how dreadful!" It happens again a few moments later when Peter is getting ready to kick Hook's hook off the ledge so that he falls into the waiting jaws of the crocodile. (The captain, at this point, is of course, squirming like--to use Peter's phrasing--"a codfish on a hook.") Again, Pan has no sympathy, but Wendy, who is starting to gradually open up her eyes to the truth that maybe staying a child forever isn't all it's cracked up to be and maybe adulthood isn't entirely bad, is losing her "child-lens." Not entirely. Not to the point where she doesn't continue to view Hook as comical to keep from being afraid. But enough to know that what Peter is about to do is wrong. She expresses this verbally when she shouts, "Oh, Peter, NO!"
It is at this point, shortly after the crocodile chase, that we start to see Hook become more of a legitimate threat (and a legitimately sympathetic character) again. Why? Because Wendy, as the protagonist and the one whose eyes we are looking through even more so than Pan, is starting to grow up and face reality for what it is--scary or not. As she sings "Your Mother and Mine" and tells her brothers that they NEED a mother--that Neverland has been fun but they NEED to go home--Hook is throwing Tinkerbelle in a lantern and planning to kidnap the kids and blow Pan to smithereens. And then we get the "slit his throat" reminder (mentioned above)... Also, as a side note, when Hook is ill after the crocodile chase, we hear him lamenting how Pan has made him look like a fool yet again. This is also something that I think we can appreciate more as adults. All Hook's crew wants is to go back to haunting the Spanish Main, but Hook refuses to leave Neverland because he feels that he has to remain there until he can regain his pride...which in and of itself is admirable, since many people who have been played the fool simply hang their head and walk away in shame. Here's this guy who has been bested by a child no more than twelve or thirteen--and possibly much younger... How must that feel? I have been in an emotionally abusive relationship where I was constantly reminded how I couldn’t do anything right, and it felt SO degrading. I literally just wanted to go hide away in my room and cry because I felt so incompetent and useless and just plain stupid. So how does Hook feel? Probably the same way. But he doesn't give up. If there's one thing we can say for sure about Disney Hook, he's a fighter. So, I guess you could say that, in part, one reason I find Disney Hook so sympathetic and tragic is because I can identify with him in his crippling reaction to fear and admire him for his bold attempts to reclaim his pride.
Anyway, getting back on track with the storyline... As we near the end of the film, Hook once again appears to lose face at the final showdown. At first, this doesn't seem to make sense if Wendy is, in fact, beginning to lose the child-lens. However, although Hook is defeated, we are never actually shown that he dies (and obviously, from the second film, in the Disney universe, he doesn't). I remember reading somewhere that when they were originally working on Peter Pan, Walt Disney chose to keep Hook alive and just have him "going like hell" rather than actually dying because, "the audience will get to liking Hook." And by this point, we have...those of us still looking through the child-lens love to hate him as a character we can laugh at, and those of us who are more grown-up love him for being just like us--an adult who is STILL growing up, in some ways, who is STILL afraid of certain things and hasn't always learned his lessons and isn't perfect but also isn't willing to give up even when everything is against him and everyone is laughing at him and nothing seems to go right.
Now, I said that at first, it doesn't seem to make sense for us to view Hook in a comical light in this scene if we are viewing the movie primarily through the eyes of the Darling children--particularly Wendy, who is starting to grow up and realize that adults are supposed to feel things like compassion for one's enemies. However, Wendy is still a child. She IS still afraid of growing up. In fact, she's terrified. And that comes out when the kids are all mocking Hook. He's still frightening to them. They still need the security blanket of pretend sometimes, of focusing on his more comical, vulnerable side...but they don't defeat Hook by killing him in this version, and I think that's significant. As representative primarily of the "scary" parts of growing up, Hook is temporarily cast aside and shoved to the back of their minds, but he IS NOT DEAD. The kids (and even Pan) know he may come back. They know he isn't gone for good. One day, they will have to face adulthood. One day, Hook--in the guise of mortgages and taxes and wars and sickly older parents--will return. But for now, they have defeated him...not just by pretending but by choosing to accept the responsibility of growing up eventually, in their own good time. Even Peter starts to reflect this theme by beating Hook, "man to man" without the use of flight. Wendy, who wants to be the good grown-up but who isn't quite ready to let go of childhood, warns Peter against it, thinking that it may be a trap. She even goes so far as to shout at him to fly when he has the chance even though he has promised not to. But Disney Pan is a bit more mature than some (maybe Wendy's better judgment is wearing off on him), and he keeps his word. He beats Hook "like a man" NOT like a boy. Pan's victory here symbolically reflects the Darling children's decision to face adulthood by going back to London. Thus, Hook is defeated because adulthood is no longer an obstacle which causes a fear is so crippling that the kids can't face it. When Wendy returns home, we get one last glimpse of this truth in Mr. Darling--the real-world representative of all things frightening and frustrating about growing up and, as I'm sure you know, also (significantly) voiced by Conried--who has done some "growing up" himself. Mr. Darling, it seems, is willing to allow Wendy a bit more time to enjoy life as a child, remembering his own childhood fondly, even as Wendy has chosen to accept the responsibility of growing up. Mr. Darling, who much like Hook, was viewed previously by the kids (and by extension, the audience) as a bit of a bully and an object of ridicule, is now the object of Wendy's affection as a mutual understanding is reached. Adulthood is frightening in many ways, but Wendy has also come to realize that it is necessary to take responsibility for one's actions and feel compassion for others just as Mr. Darling has realized that sometimes, it's okay for kids to be kids and enjoy the moment. Essentially, what I'm saying is--borrowing the idea that Hook and Mr. Darling are two sides of the same coin--Hook in Neverland, chased away by the crocodile, appears as comical in the last scene only because he effectively gets one last serious scene through his London counterpart, staring wistfully out the window with a loving wife and child by his side. Wendy isn't quite yet grown up, so she still sees through the child-lens on occasion, but she is learning, gradually, to embrace that which she once feared. She no longer needs Hook, an imaginary figure, to personify that fear. She now has her father back, and though she now RESPECTS what he stands for, she is no longer so terrified of growing up that she can't appreciate the GOOD side of the future (such as having a husband and a family of her own someday) and look forward to it.

all was golden in the sky
59. "wow." requested by anonymous in which amy has a (non-die hard related) honeymoon surprise for her husband. (post 6x01)
read on ao3 -
“You ready?” Jake’s favourite voice in the world calls lightly from the en-suite of their hotel room; he pauses briefly to double-tap Gina’s latest photoshoot of Iggy before putting his phone away, eager to give his full attention to whatever ‘surprise’ his brilliant, beautiful wife has for him this time. The soft pink and orange hues of the sunset filter in through the windows and they’re married, they’re actually married and a sea turtle looked right at him earlier and he’s pretty sure he’s never felt more content in his entire life.
“Born ready.”
“Okay – close your eyes. I want to do this properly.”
He raises an eyebrow. “You’re not going to draw on my face, are you?”
“Just do it, Peralta.”
“10-4” He affirms, restraining the urge to tell her it’s technically Santiago now as he dutifully squeezes his eyes shut.
(They haven’t officially decided, yet – double-barrelled, singular, whether they should swap or remain unchanged. Really, Jake doesn’t think that it matters – they don’t need to share a last name to be safe in the knowledge that they’re in this for the long run.)
“Okay, you can open your eyes…now.”
He’s not sure exactly what he’s expecting to see when he does – he’s seen her in beautiful floral dresses and Die Hard cosplay and some seriously stupid hot lingerie over the past two weeks. He’s totally certain that she looks amazing in pretty much everything. And yet, predictably, he can’t help but stare like an idiot as Amy beams at him.
Because standing before him is Amy Santiago in her wedding dress.
Her wedding dress – not the dress that she borrowed from Gina, even though she looked beyond perfect in that too. He knows it’s hers in an instant – it’s so elegant, intricately decorated with the floral patterns she adores only this time delicately embroidered in lace. It compliments her curves perfectly and flows behind her like she’s some kind of awesome badass warrior princess.
“Wow.” It’s the only thing he can manage to stutter out. It’s hard to find the right words – she’s still Amy. Amy, vibrant and brilliant and beautiful in absolutely everything from her pantsuits to her sergeants uniform to her dresses to his hoodie and sweatpants. Yet she’s softer somehow, almost more herself, all her hardships scrubbed away and there’s only her, bright and shining and as golden as the twilight outside currently painting her a halo.
She is completely and utterly radiant.
And, as if all the fates have aligned in the midsummer evening’s sky, she looks like a mermaid.
Her dress makes her look like a mermaid, and it’s almost cruel how vividly he suddenly remembers a money laundering case and a debilitating crush on a girl with a boyfriend and the way he’d shamefully revelled in the tiniest fleeting chance to hold her, to make her laugh, to let her step on his feet. And now they’re here, on their honeymoon, and so unbelievably deliriously happy.
Jake can’t believe just how lucky he is.
“Done staring yet?” She teases, bringing him out of his reverie, eyes glittering with soft amusement.
“You look incredible, Ames.” He grins – she blushes and does a dorky theatrical twirl for his benefit and yeah, that confirms it. He’s so lucky.
“Man. Have I mentioned that I love your butt?”
“It may have come up once or twice.” She laughs; he shifts his weight to make room for her in the bed and she settles down beside him and okay, now he’s really never felt more content.
“I was packing and I just realised – you never got to see me in it. And well…I don’t know. It just felt important, somehow.” His heart breaks a little thinking about everything they missed out on. Their wedding was never going to be traditional, but it’s hard not to mourn the day he’d spent so long building up such a vivid picture of in his head. He shifts his weight to make room for her in the bed and she settles down beside him.
“I’m sorry.” He wants to say more, but when she meets his gaze Jake can tell that she already understands- it must be the psychic powers you get when you marry the love of your life.
“Hey, don’t apologise. It wasn’t your fault.” She moves to take his hand and squeezes it gently – the glint of silver on her hand catches his eye and he absentmindedly twists the ring on his own finger. He’s not quite used to the weight of it yet and he’s almost lost it twice and he never ever wants to take it off.
“I know. I’m still sorry. All that planning and effort you put in…”
“First of all, that wasn’t just me. You did so much, it would have been impossible without you. And second of all, you were right. All that planning didn’t matter because at the end of the day all that mattered was that I got to marry you.” The sincere affection Amy pours into her gaze tears through every single last one of his fears. “I know we joked about the dumpster but I seriously would have clambered into one if that was our only option.”
If there was ever the tiniest shred of doubt that she was his soulmate, it’s lost to the wind now. The exact right way to tell her that is lost to him for the moment, though, so instead, he kisses her tenderly and it seems to pretty successfully articulate what he was going for.
“Just for the record, you could have worn a garbage bag down the aisle and still looked totally perfect.”
“I can’t believe less than a month of marriage has made you this cheesy.” She pokes his shoulder playfully.
“I just…It’s so us, y’know? Like, of course, our wedding day was casually interrupted by a bomb scare and we just got on with it and had a beautiful ceremony anyway.”
“I think we’re pretty much indestructible at this point.” She says; he hums appreciatively as she nestles closer into him and now he’s really, truly certain that he’s never felt more content. It makes their terrible, agonising separations seem trivial now, the rings on their fingers a defiant and tangible promise that they’ll never really be apart again.
“Indestructible.” Jake grins. “I like the sound of that.”

Most Overlooked Movies in Oscar History
Well guys, its official, Green Book was awarded the highest honour a single film can be given. Best Picture. If you spent any time on Twitter the day after the 91st Academy Awards you will have noticed that film nerds were not exactly thrilled by the decision, film Twitter immediately erupted into a discussion about all the films that didn’t receive the nomination that may have been more worthy winners than Green Book. Films like Eighth Grade, The Miseducation of Cameron Post and If Beale Street Could Talk appear to have benefited far more in regard to free publicity than any of the actual nominees. Of course, this isn’t the first time that the academy has failed to acknowledge the real best of the year and it certainly won’t be the last. So, in the spirit of being mad at the Academy let’s take a look at some of the worst historical snubs of all time.Well guys, its official, Green Book was awarded the highest honour a single film can be given. So, in the spirit of being mad at the Academy let’s take a look at some of the worst historical snubs of all time.
The Avengers (2012)
Tumblr media
Actual nominations: Argo, Amour, Beasts of the Southern Wild, Django Unchained, Les Misérables, Life of Pi, Lincoln, Silver Linings Playbook, Zero Dark Thirty.
The Academy has historically looked down on superhero films with no comic book adaptation receiving a Best Picture nod before Black Panther earlier this year. While The Avengers may not have been the most artistic or dramatic film of 2012 it is hard to deny it’s impact. When future generations look back on the films of the 2010s The Avengers will likely stand out as one of the most important releases. With the Marvel Cinematic Universe feeling like a part of everyday life it can be hard to remember just how big a risk this movie was at the time. Think pieces were all over the internet about how the film would ultimately end up as an unwatchable, convoluted mess of ideas that would end Joss Wheadon’s career. How wrong they were.
If the Best Picture award is supposed to honour the greatest and most important achievements in modern cinema then The Avengers absolutely deserved to end up on the ballot, but we don’t live in the universe where The Academy does cool stuff like that.
Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind (2004)
Tumblr media
Actual nominations: Million Dollar Baby, The Aviator, Finding Neverland, Ray, Sideways.
How on earth did this happen? It truly amazes me that more members of the academy felt that Finding Neverland deserved more acclaim than Eternal Sunshine. Going of the assumption that the ‘best picture’ should be the film with all its filmmaking elements working perfectly together then Eternal Sunshine should win every year. Charlie Kaufman won the award for original screenplay and Kate Winslet received the only other nomination for lead actress, this film didn’t even receive a nomination in any of the technical categories. The treatment of Michel Gondry’s masterpiece by the Academy should be seen as a permanent black spot on the ceremony’s reputation.
Who Framed Roger Rabbit (1988)
Tumblr media
Actual Nominations: Rain Man, The Accidental Tourist, Dangerous Liaisons, Mississippi Burning, Working Girl
Hear me out on this one. Roger Rabbit is one of my all-time favourite movies and for that, I’ll admit, I’m a little bias. That being said I truly believe that this is one of the finest achievements in cinema history from a purely technical level. The nominees for the 61st Acadamy Awards are solid (for the most part wtf is going with The Accidental Tourist?) but none of these films are as impressive as what Robert Zemeckis and his team were able to achieve by mixing live action film with 2D animation. Roger Rabbit is more than just a gimmick however, this a very entertaining and genuinely compelling detective story at its core. Once again, the term ‘Best Picture’ feels perfectly defined while discussing this film, a film that wasn’t even considered for the award.
Donnie Darko (2001)
Tumblr media
Actual Nominees: A Beautiful Mind, Gosford Park, In the Bedroom, Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring, Moulin Rouge
Excuse my language but Donnie Darko is a fucking great movie. Here is another year where the nominees were pretty solid but come on you can’t tell me that Donnie Darko was too weird and abstract when you nominated Moulin bloody Rouge! Donnie Darko is the sort of film that is still being discussed to this day with so many incredibly well thought out details both in the direction and the screenplay. When you ask a film lover what is so special about the medium it is films like this that they will point to, with an excellent score, great performances, hypnotically simple editing and masterful direction it doesn’t put a foot wrong. Do I really have to spell out what the words ‘Best Picture’ mean again?
WALL.E (2008)
Tumblr media
Actual Nominees: Slumdog Millionaire, The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, Frost/Nixon, Milk, The Reader
Let’s talk about animation for a bit. Only three animated films have ever been nominated for top prize (Beauty and the Beast, Up and Toy Story 3) considering the amount for excellent animated film are not those three I had a lot to choose from. With the likes of My Neighbour Totoro, Toy Story, Aladdin, The Little Mermaid, The Lion King, Princess Mononoke and The Nightmare Before Christmas going completely unnoticed the academy has found a way to further segregate the medium of animation from live-action film by introducing the ‘best animated feature’ award at the 2002 ceremony. This addition has led to films like Spirited Away, Finding Nemo, The Incredibles, Ratatouille, Frozen, Inside Out and most recently Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse receiving an award without having to let them compete with live action films. There are no academy rules that state animation cannot be considered for Best Picture it just doesn’t happen. I have singled out WALL.E because I think it showcases exactly what modern animation has achieved. WALL.E is a largely silent film with gorgeous visuals and a strong environmental message that is still accessible to general audiences, including children. Surly one of Pixar’s finest achievements deserves to be held in just as high regard as David Fancher’s 8th best film.
 Ps. You will notice a distinct lack of The Dark Knight in the 2008 nominations as well.
Psycho (1960)
Tumblr media
Actual Nominees: The Apartment, The Alamo, Elmer Gantry, Sons and Lovers, The Sundowners
Another genre historically left out of the running is horror. Only 6 horror films have ever been up for the award (The Exorcist, Jaws, The Silence of the lambs, The Sixth Sense, Black Swan and Get Out). Horror is a genre that is often looked down upon in the film community for being ‘low-brow’ and not as artistic, a similar struggled as the one faced by the superhero genre. With important releases such as: Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Suspiria, Halloween, Alien, The Shining, Let he Right One In, Night of the Living Dead and perhaps most surprising, Psycho going unnoticed by the academy it is clear to see that there is a bias against the genre somewhere in Hollywood. Psycho is also emblematic of another problem with historic best picture nominations. What on earth is the academy’s issue with Alfred Hitchcock? Psycho is not the only of Hitchcock’s classic films not to receive the nomination, in fact North by Northwest, Vertigo, Rear Window and Dial M for Murder were all snubbed.
On a related note despite being nominated 5 times Hitchcock never received the Oscar for best director putting him in the prestigious company of: David Lynch, Terry Gilliam, Ridley Scott, Wes Anderson Quentin Tarantino, David Fincher, Edgar Wright, Spike Lee, Charlie Chaplin, Orson Wells and Stanley Kubrick. So, I guess you could say that it isn’t just the Best Picture category that doesn’t make sense.
 These were 6 examples I felt I could make a point out of, it is important to remember that many more examples are out there of revolutionary masterworks that went unrecognised come awards season. People don’t take into consideration what happens behind the scenes at the Oscars. The ceremony needs good ratings, The Academy needs to honour films with progressive messages that are easily digestible, and everyone has an agenda and wants to see their friends win. The Oscars are a lot of fun, it gives people like as a chance to talk about the films we loved that year hopefully see our favourites given some well-deserved recognition but let’s not take it more seriously than we should. Next year when the Academy inevitably choses to honour mediocrity remind yourself that The Third Man wasn’t nominated in 1950 or you could remind yourself that Singin’ in the Rain wasn’t nominated in 1953, alternatively mention that 2001: A Space Odyssey was snubbed in 1969, The Matrix in 2000, Back to the Future in 1986, Pan’s Labyrinth in 2007, Cool Hand Luke in 1968. Or if you want your could run into the street and shout about how, Duck Soup, Modern Times, His Girl Friday, Night of the Living Dead, The Shining, The Good, The Bad and The Ugly, Oldboy, Reservoir Dogs and The Big Lebowski all weren’t nominated for god dammed thing.

maybe you're pacing the ground with a fussy toddler? Perhaps you're sitting in a rocking chair breast or bottle feeding? Or are you extensive wide awake because your little one has taken over the sacred sleep area that when belonged to you and your partner? We have all been there. We're mothers. The way to be a better mother. 7 crucial hints on a way to be a good mother... And nonetheless enjoy your personal lifestyles. You can discover ways to be a great mother, a better mom, a satisfied mother, without losing your thoughts. But are we exact moms? If you have to ask the question, you may have doubts. But right here’s the good information…
you can discover ways to be a very good mom. Everybody can. In this text, i am going to offer seven approaches to be an awesome mom… a higher mother… a glad mother. A few i've provide you with by myself. A few i have borrowed from different moms. A few i have researched.
what you'll learn [show]
life before being a mother you aren't alone. Whether or not you're modern day to motherhood or had been at it for a while now, one element is real… you have been a girl first. An unbiased, unmarried girl who had no person to answer to. No one's life become in your palms on a day by day basis. You went on dates. You took the time to do your hair and make-up. You went to the health club often. You had a terrific task. You had first-rate friends. You binge-watched tv dramas. You had a existence! But in some unspecified time in the future, you probably made a totally aware selection to turn out to be a mom. And with that, you took in this massive duty. You vowed to preserve your toddler secure. You vowed to love them. You vowed to cherish them. What could likely pass wrong? Take into account that time before you were a mother? Lots. And after nearly 8 years and 4 youngsters, i experience i have got a few correct advice to offer for dealing with this experience referred to as motherhood… and it starts now. I'm able to teach you a way to be an excellent mom… or at the least feel like one. Allow's get began. Habit #1: forget as a minimum half of what your mother taught you did i simply say that? Did i just inform you to push aside the recommendation your mother has undoubtedly tried to offer? Yes. Yes, i did. Now let me clarify. Your mother is a grandmother now. And this is a completely extraordinary ballgame. She's protected all of the bases, literally, when it comes to elevating a infant. You have been that child. However your infant is specific. And no person knows your child higher than you. Duration. Exclamation point! Instances exchange. Your grandmother raised your mom in a completely exclusive world than she raised you. The identical holds actual for elevating your toddler. The fifties brought us to the likes of donna reed. Lucille ball. Barbara billingsley from depart it to beaver. The mothers on those shows have been continually dressed to the nines. Constantly had their hair performed. Dinner changed into on the desk at the identical time each night. They continually smiled. No mom smiles that a good deal. It's kind of scary
there's no ebook on motherhood that could come up with all the answers. And it is good enough. It's ordinary. Consider me. When you have been a toddler, you possibly performed outdoor until dark and disappeared with community pals for hours on give up. Such things as attention deficit disorder and autism weren't mainstream troubles. Pediatricians weren't diagnosing lots of youngsters every 12 months with celiac disease, nut allergies, or lactose intolerance. These problems are very actual and very extreme … these days. How may want to our moms possibly relate? However here's the element… they'll try. Due to the fact they love us, our personal moms will:
upload their 2-cents on the problem. Try extremely hard to attract a correlation between your toddler and you. Key terms like, “you had been the identical manner” or “you probably did the identical aspect” will come up. Lots. Offer tales about a pal's grandchild this is going through the precise equal component. Argue with you to seek a second opinion on certain topics. Attempt to shed a few new light on the subject that perhaps even the professionals have not even figured out but. As i stated, they may strive. And you will be grateful. However being a great mom is essentially reliant on following your instincts. Observe your instincts! Concentrate to the alarms going off on your head pay attention what your child is pronouncing. Observe how your infant is behaving in numerous conditions. Train your self. Be worried. Stand your floor. By no means be afraid to say “thank you, but no thank you” for your mother for her opinion. However always keep an open thoughts. In the end, you turned out good enough. Right? Her advice may just spark some thing interior you that you unnoticed, which could often show up when you're too near a scenario. On the give up of the day, however, the task is yours. You have got this! Addiction #2: use social media as a form of remedy allow's be sincere…
except your process prohibits it, otherwise you live underneath a rock, chances are you've got at least one social media account. Why wouldn't you? Those social media presents top notch avenues for:
sharing news and photographs with own family and pals. Reconnecting with lengthy lost pals. Obtaining facts and pointers. Networking. Organizing occasions. Meeting new people. Stepping into a heated argument about politics or religion. Discussing the brand new traits. Therapy remedy? Yes, therapy. Hear me out. Learn how to be the first-rate mother by means of the usage of social media as a form of therapy. Make social media your ally in motherhood. Capture all the good, the bad, the unpleasant moments. If you're like maximum mothers, you publish limitless pictures of your children doing adorable things. And also you need to. But it is incredibly fake advertising and marketing. Isn't always it? No toddler is glad all the time. And you can't be a glad mother all the time. No matter what the images display, my kids are not:
continuously hugging their siblings. Always volunteering to proportion their toys without a combat. Waking up from their each day nap within the exceptional mood whenever. Waving and smiling at strangers. Sitting contently in a buying cart at the same time as i stroll through the grocery store at a leisurely pace. Laughing all day. Are yours? I'd guess money they're now not. So i'm laying down the gauntlet. Here and now. And a better option to social media is to participate in a single (or a few) of these 88 a laugh sports on your youngsters. These fun activities are a notable way to preserve your children entertained. Alert: motherhood mission! Anything type of day it is you are having, take images of all of it. Regardless of their temper or yours, snatch your telephone or digital camera and capture your toddler:
once they first awaken inside the morning. Ingesting breakfast. Lavatory training. Getting dressed for faculty. Heading out the door. Gambling with a pal. Food buying with you. Coming domestic. Naptime. Time for supper. Bath time. Bedtime. Now post them. The coolest, the horrific and the unsightly. Crying infant picture no toddler or mom is happy all of the time. However seize and treasure those moments. Not handiest will you deliver your followers a glimpse into your “each day”… but you'll examine these images and snicker, cry, smile. Take all of it in. Your children are this age as soon as. You'll not get at the moment again, for better or worse. Time flies. Cling on to those moments. They're the war-scars of motherhood. Embody them. Now breathe. The remarks you get hold of will in all likelihood be extra than simply smiley faces or thumbs up. You may see fewer little tears or mouth open emojis… and greater actual words. Mothers will unite. They'll remark. Lend guide. Percentage their personal tales and pictures. Be inspired! You are not alone. You may experience higher about yourself. A weight will be lifted. Here is what my photograph from the day past could have seemed like:
our three and 4-12 months-olds dozing in-among my husband and me, kicking my face and decrease returned almost continuously from 5-6 am. Our 3 year vintage throwing his water cup and pouring a bowl of yogurt on his head. Our three-yr vintage telling us he didn't should cross poop, then hiding behind a sofa to accomplish that in his diaper. Our 6-year-antique daughter screaming as i tried to sweep her hair before school. Reputedly i'm the worst ever at this. Our 7-12 months-old arguing over the blouse we picked for him to put on to highschool, ensuing in a brief trade earlier than running out the door. Our 3 12 months vintage hitting his sister within the head with a barbie due to the fact he desired to be the mermaid. The 3-yr vintage's tantrum within the grocery save over a cookie i wouldn't allow him have, observed with the aid of a comfort prize of gum to hold him quiet. Eyes have been on me. Said three-year-old falling asleep in the car while on a experience alongside the waterfront. He gave the look of a little angel, slept for 2 hours. Victory! One child wanted fowl for dinner. One desired handiest french fries. No takers on broccoli. Water cups were thrown. One 6-year-vintage yelling at me for in no way making what she likes. They play so pleasant together inside the bath. The laughter warms my heart. Betime bargaining begins. Just one greater show? One greater e-book? Will, you lay with me? The day ends with quiet cuddles with my 7-year-vintage…who's growing too rapid. I will miss these moments. Believe me…
if you made it thru the day, you possess the good traits it takes to be a higher mother. A happy mother. A terrific mom. You will be adequate. Dependancy #three: form a tribe i'm going to credit my expensive pal, kat, for this tip. It's based at the vintage adage of “it takes a village” to raise a infant… and it virtually does. Nowadays, that village is called a tribe. Only some people are willing to assist each other out every time they can. We have got your returned. Currently, i've 3 youngsters antique sufficient to participate in extracurricular sports. Things like taekwondo, soccer, dance, art, piano, scouts. Our calendar has some thing on it every single day of the week… however sometimes we bypass an afternoon or two. Don't choose me. If it weren't for my tribe… i would likely must bypass greater than that. What? Deprive my baby of some thing he or she may additionally excel at? Sorry, however sure. I'm able to simplest achieve this a lot. I'm now not perfect. The tribe gathers weekly to assist every different out – on the whole with carpooling and babysitting. Playdates are an advantage. One much less child to manipulate, even for just a little whilst, can make a mother sense like she's received the chore lottery. Ahh… i see a further load of laundry in your future. Or possibly a quiet shopping trip to buy new denims in peace. Fortunate you! Whilst thinking about forming your personal tribe… start with one easy query. Who do i trust with my children? My tribe consists of:
a handful of close buddies own family pals 1-3 “mothers helpers” or babysitters a small social community of like-minded mothers these humans may be known as upon, now and again on very short notice, that will help you out. Think of them as nine-1-1 responders for “momergencies”. See what i did there? You don't ought to do it all alone. With a bit of luck, you have a spouse or great other who's palms-on. That really takes a number of the burden off. Or maybe you're a unmarried mom… who i'm able to now forestall to applaud. Being a unmarried mother is one of the toughest matters all of us ever signed up for. You deserve all the reward inside the global! And you also deserve a tribe maybe extra than each person else. There is no shame in inquiring for help. Surround your self with the pleasant… and you'll be at your fine in your children. Habit #4: socialize like a child what if i were to inform you there has been a way on the way to be a terrific mom and nevertheless get your weekly exercising in, explore your inventive aspect, volunteer for a neighborhood charity, listen to live music, see a film, rock climb,  enjoy a cup of coffee and proper communication with grown-ups? And what if i were to inform you this could all be accomplished along with your kids in tow? Might you trust me? You must trust me. Proper mom creed. Preserve this in mind when times together with your kids get difficult precise mother creed one of the first-class methods to be a better mom is to have a few flexibility on your day. And one of the high-quality approaches to be an amazing mother is to incorporate a laugh sports for you and your infant into each and each day… even though only for an hour or . The household stuff can wait. Existence is short. Youth is fast! Pencil in time along with your child, just as you'll a purchaser assembly or cooking dinner. And if you actually need to make the maximum out of that hour, time table something you may each enjoy. Concentrate to your inner baby! There are such a lot of “mommy and me” sports at our disposal these days, it would be a shame not to attempt them out. Adventure is waiting! There's something for absolutely everyone and every age. You simply want to find them. Start through turning to the web. Here's a terrific listing of ideas put together by way of author, melina gerosa bellows, 21 approaches to revel in being a mother. Or maybe you need to study something new. Here are a number of my favored matters:
1. Go to a trampoline park or roller skating rink you'll burn lots of calories… and your children will tire themselves out! It's a win-win! Simply go away your inhibitions at the door. 2. Take a look at out a paint your own pottery or canvas region a number of these places have unique “mommy and me” or “infant time” every day, in which you would possibly meet other moms. Even though they don't offer this, all of them have open studio hours, where you could cross at your leisure and unleash your internal artist. Discover ways to be a good mom and a way to balance being a spouse and mother on this manual. Discover “mommy and me” activities for your vicinity and revel in the day! Three. Volunteer together with your baby visit dosomething. Org or  mommypoppins. Com and notice which kid-pleasant activities hobby you. If you have an older baby, speak your options, making them experience liable for their time. Instilling precise traits in our children at an early age will maximum in reality bring about them becoming altruistic and empathetic adults. Our international wishes more suitable humans. 4. Concentrate to tune inside the park as the weather receives hotter, many towns offer outdoor song. The nice element? It is normally unfastened. Those circle of relatives-friendly concert events are a super way to expose your child to tune other than kidz bop or the wiggles.
now not that there is something incorrect with those… i surely quite like the wiggles. But variety is the spice of existence, and a well-rounded toddler is an thrilling one. Now not to mention, you may just get to relive your glory days as a unmarried woman belting out some 80s or 90s classics together with your girlfriends. 5. Find a pressure-in or out of doors movie venue hop within the automobile with the circle of relatives and cross. Whilst the power-ins may be a bit tough to return by way of nowadays, less expensive (now and again unfastened) out of doors films are popping up like daisies all over the us of a… particularly in the course of the summer time. Similarly to the plain attraction of looking a movie from the comfort of your very own automobile, or on a seashore, your kids are allowed to talk! In truth, it is expected. And bonus: you do not must worry approximately crouching down low when heading out for one among probably numerous lavatory breaks. 6. Locate an indoor rock climbing gym the benefits to be had from mountaineering have it rapid becoming a famous activity, for each adults and children alike. The power conditioning, especially for the top frame, is unprecedented for some thing so a laugh. And then you have the mental thing, pushing your self past your limits till you attain the top. It's a splendid lesson in in no way giving up… for each you and your youngsters. In case you do not have tons of time to investigate, or are not sure what you'd be into precisely, contemplate joining a neighborhood “mothers group”. They normally have new member conferences at least as soon as a month, which might be regularly just casual get-togethers over coffee, where they go over their listing of activities. Whether or not you join or not, you are bound to get a few fresh thoughts and maybe even make a chum or . Suppose tribe! An energetic and nicely-rounded mother makes a glad mother. A glad mother is a great mom. And happiness is contagious. Allow your youngsters see you satisfied. Dependancy #5: positioned a few personal time at the agenda humorous mother's day cool animated film mother mother exact mother proper mom #mom #motherhood #goodmother #habits #selfhelp #selfcare #parenting #figure #parents #quotes #funny this turned into always one in every of my favourite cartoons… because it's genuine. Motherhood is a 24/7 task. There aren't any ill days, no holiday days, no extra time pay, no lunch breaks. It's miles a exertions of love. And it can be thankless. As supportive as your partner or childless pals may try to be in relation to your daily habitual… they can by no means genuinely recognize till they enjoy it. And to be honest, the bond among a mom and her toddler does not examine to that of a father and baby. It simply would not. Ask yourself…
while my child is sick, who do they want? While my baby has a nightmare, who do they run to? When my child is hungry, who do they ask to lead them to something while my infant can't discover their preferred shirt, who knows where to appearance? Possibilities are, your answer to all of those questions is “mother”. Unless you aren't around, the answer is “mother”. It is the fact. As i grew older and became a mother for the primary time, it hit me… dads are type of like alternative teachers. While mom is not available (which is sort of never), they're a great alternative! They may be succesful and charming. They may be truely fun and lenient. They have got this… if they ought to. Till mom comes again. Now…
one in all two things goes via your head at this very moment. I've bowled over and offended you… so that you're going to forestall reading i have given you a terrific snort… and you feel just a wee bit responsible for it my money is on #2. Don't get me incorrect…
i like my husband. He's an brilliant father and really concerned with the kids. My children adore their father. He makes them sense safe and they appreciate him. Discover ways to be an excellent mother and how to be an excellent dad and mom. Dads are form of like alternative instructors. They may be certainly a laugh and lenient. They've got this… if they ought to. Till mother comes lower back. In truth, i'm regularly jealous that he gets to do more of the amusing matters with them. He receives to return home from work and roll round at the ground with our sons, play dolls with our daughters, instruct their soccer group…. He is achieved with work for the day and is all about them. It is exquisite. Virtually. The laughter in the house whilst my husband gets home is track to my ears… and makes doing my “task” a touch less difficult. Nonetheless, i wouldn't mind switching locations from time to time. Would you? In the end, being a great mother approach that you are by no means definitely “off the clock”. You still need to get dinner on the desk, pick up toys, do the dishes, fold one extra load of laundry… all earlier than putting them to mattress. It is laborious. You're exhausted. You deserve a break. And you shouldn't sense responsible for inquiring for one. Flip in your partner, your companion, your mother, a pal, a neighbor… your tribe. Ask them to watch the children for a couple of hours so you can try out a yoga class, have dinner with a chum, walk across the mall and window shop, move for a motorbike ride, take a sleep. Or simply sit down on a park bench and play sweet crush. It doesn't remember what you do, simply go. A part of getting to know the way to be an amazing mother is knowing that you want a smash. A brief break from your kids doesn't suggest you like them any much less. In truth, it is due to the fact you love them that you need a smash. Run! I'm critical. Perhaps you want to head for a run? You could laugh. That became funny. You want to recharge your batteries. Go into your head and close the whole lot off for just some time. Or as a minimum attempt to. Taking care of your thoughts and frame will make you a better mom. Mediation and relaxation are first rate ways to retain recognition and center your self. It enables placed matters into perspective. If you're uncertain of the way to do that, or simply leery, try any such great apps you could get to your smartphone. They may be positive to help you get into the proper kingdom of mind. Mental clarity ends in making better choices. It is as simple as that. And exercising is tested to raise your temper, fight infection, and improve sleep… among other matters. The endorphins will preserve you going for hours! In case you do not accept as true with me, take a look at this out… however come again! We are almost finished here. The advantages of mediation and workout will depart your feeling organized for anything motherhood throws your way that day. I assure it. Plus, you will be a happier mother whilst you go back domestic… and this is something your children (and partner) will admire. Habit #6: time table a “date night” before the youngsters… there has been courtship. Swooning. Past due night time conversations. Quiet food in fancy eating places. This was dating. You loved it. In truth, you cherished it so much that you met a person to have a infant with. And if you have been fortunate sufficient to really marry that man or woman, the children are a reminder of that love each and every day. But here's the twist. You need to sustain that love. Striking onto the reminiscence of love and a laugh times collectively is not enough. You want to certainly display your spouse, each day, which you love him. You loved him first. Every so often it is easy to get stuck up within the beautiful chaos this is raising children. But you can not wander away in it. You loved him first. You still love him. Research have shown that kids raised in a domestic with two loving parents advantage appreciably from this. A few of the many advantages of developing up in a two-figure family, your kids may have a better chance of forming successful relationships in their own at some point of their life… each for my part and professionally. Part of getting to know the way to be a terrific mother is showing your children that they have  loving mother and father. Sometimes it is easy to get caught up within the stunning chaos this is elevating kids. You need to clearly show your spouse, every day, that you love him. Moves communicate louder than words. Kids, specially younger ones, are more likely to bear in mind “snapshots” from their early adolescence than phrases. If they see you and your partner being affectionate and worrying towards one another, they may deliver that with them. They may feel safe and loved because of the way you have interaction with every different. Display them which you are excellent buddies. Now inform them that you're going on a playdate with each different. Kids can relate. Begin slow:
placed one “date night time” in keeping with month at the calendar, however do at least 3 months at a time so that you're not inclined to bypass it the next month (if you can pull off two times a month… you move, woman!). Relaxed a babysitter for all of those nights proper away
take turns making plans the date together with your spouse, leave a laugh recommendations or clues to make it a surprise
do no longer check your cellphone on the date, set it to do no longer disturb. Only the babysitter wishes to recognise in which you're in case of emergency and might name the actual venue if want be. Do one spontaneous issue on the date
do no longer communicate approximately the youngsters as soon as the date has commenced. If you feel the urge, speak them within the vehicle or uber earlier than you get to wherein you are going. Reminisce. The point of date night is to recall why it's miles you fell in love… and to test in with each other so that the affection does not wander off within the aggravating daily. The youngsters will nevertheless be there whilst you get domestic. Dependancy #7: it's ok to have a bad “mother” day you are the first teacher your baby has. Lead by using instance. You can not always succeed, but do your exceptional to:
in no way argue with a cherished one in the front of the youngsters. Communicate in your children like you'll an person (is reasonably). Be affectionate. Yell constructively. Never go to mattress disillusioned. Spend a few minutes unwinding every night. There are days while you may succeed in doing all of this stuff. There are days you will not. Similar to a terrible “hair” day, you will have bad “mom” days… and it is good enough. Do not beat your self up. Nobody is ideal. Mother overwhelm quote awful day does not  identical a awful mom sensible phrases to do not forget whilst motherhood receives difficult just like a awful “hair” day, you will have terrible “mom” days… and it's ok. However we will all aspire to be “flawlessly imperfect”. This essentially approach spotting while you're wrong and doing all of your best to accurate it. Positive, you could bicker together with your accomplice in the front of the kids. But, there's usually a manner to hold it friendly and productive. In our residence, if my husband and that i are caught having a silly argument, we make it a factor to give an explanation for to our kids why each of us is upset and draw a assessment to some thing they can relate to. Here's an instance…
me: “mommy is aggravated at daddy due to the fact he left me with one square of lavatory paper rather than converting the roll.”
husband: “daddy failed to need to waste the bathroom paper.”
me: “consider your brother drank a big glass of orange juice and handiest left sufficient so that it will have one sip. Might you be dissatisfied?”
toddler: “sure”. Me: “but you will forgive him due to the fact he didn't understand how an awful lot become left. He became simply filling his glass up due to the fact he was thirsty. He wasn't looking to be suggest.”
this easy speak, comparing what we have been dissatisfied about to some thing our toddler can recognize, is a good way to let them know that mommy and daddy will be high-quality. The whole lot is excellent. Regardless of how rough a day has been, you can in no way hug and kiss your baby too much. Real presentations of love lead to well-rounded youngsters with more shallowness. According to an editorial from figure co., affection can cross a whole lot in addition than yelling when seeking to get through in your child. Plus, it simply plain feels suitable. There may be a time and vicinity for the whole lot. And there will be instances you'll need to yell at your toddler… when hugs just may not do. Newsflash! Yelling does not make you a bad mother. The use of demeaning language does. A part of learning how to be a great mother is understanding that yelling does no longer make you a awful mom. There could be times you are going to should yell at your child. That does not make you a terrible mom. But the use of demeaning language does. Phrases can harm. They may be also harder to forget about, that's why you need to pick them carefully while scolding a infant. Glaringly, if your little one is about to run into the street, you must yell first! Then hug them. Once you've got all calmed down, provide an explanation for to them that there are very critical effects available from strolling into the street. What if a vehicle have been coming? In case your infant smacks any other child within the face, it is perfectly appropriate to raise your voice and say, “no!” then possibly put them in “time out” – whether or not that be a chair or a corner, their room, and so on…. However, if your toddler throws his food at the ground throughout dinner, this can not warrant yelling as a whole lot as a stern appearance and, “no greater food for you this night.”
risk! In case you threaten your child with a punishment… be organized to commit to that punishment if they don't heed your warning. Sticking through your words is a huge play in the motherhood game. You do not want your youngsters now not to take you severely whilst the time comes. Empty threats may want to actually backfire, mainly as they get older. You may lose credibility after which probably become frustrated. Frustration can cause pronouncing belongings you don't imply. Tread gently. Whether or not you're yelling, or just threatening punishment, there's a manner to be positive about it. Each time i've yelled at my youngsters, i made a factor to go returned as soon as i'm calm and give an explanation for to them why i used to be so upset and lost my mood. There may be technique in your madness. When scolding a infant, do use phrases and terms like:
no! Forestall! Why did you do this? Do not do this! What are you doing? How ought to you? What had been you questioning? Don't use words and phrases like:
that became stupid! You are stupid! Are you an idiot? I cannot stand you! I'm so tired of you! You are the worst! You may be questioning that you'd by no means say these things to a baby, however rage can be a elaborate issue. Do not maintain your emotions bottled up! Think about the sound a tea kettle makes while the water is beginning to boil. Imagine that is you preserving in your anger, your blood stress rising. Feelings can sneak up on you. So make it a factor to talk your feelings constructively before it receives to the point where you are saying some thing you regret. Learn how to be a happy mom and a way to be an awesome mom. Do no longer maintain your emotions bottled up! Feelings can sneak up on you. By no means go to mattress angry! One of the maximum important matters you can do to turn a terrible day round is to make amends earlier than bed. Make their bedroom a “no negativity area”. Talk flippantly and undoubtedly together with your infant. Toughen one true component that came about to you, or something exceptional that they did, at some point of the day. Locate the silver lining in a difficult day. Smother them with hugs and kisses, wish them candy dreams. Inform them you adore them. Usually. Then take a stroll in your favourite room inside the residence, have a seat, and unwind. Perhaps which means beginning a book you have been trying to finish. Maybe it is having a tumbler of wine and a chunk of chocolate along with your husband. Maybe it is checking your fb web page. Maybe it's catching up on a display you've had dvr'd for weeks. Anything you want to do to relaxation, mirror and recharge. Tomorrow is some other day. Giving a proper good-bye to this one earlier than mattress will result in a higher night's sleep… and a higher night time's sleep will make you a better mom. A glad mother. A terrific mother. A mom who wakes up inside the morning with a smile on her face, confident she's prepared to tackle the day! You have got this! However earlier than i go away you…
mark my words: you already know the way to be a good mom! A massive part of it's miles following your instincts. And, of route, loving your infant unconditionally facilitates. However in case you keep those 7 habits tucked away on your brain, you may be armed with all which you need to stand something comes. Afterall… motherhood, like existence, is unpredictable. What works for you one day, may not the following. Routines exchange, people exchange, conditions trade. Just roll with it! Consider in yourself. Make use of the net sources available to you. Ask for assist. Make time for a touch a laugh. Make time for yourself. Reward your self. Make time for romance. Allow your self off the hook whilst matters don’t pass as deliberate. Motherhood is an experience in contrast to any other. And even as you chose this route… realize that it also selected you. The sooner you permit your self to accept the best with the bad, the sooner you may start to sense like a better mom. The minute you let pass of any negativity or guilt, you will become a satisfied mom. Realize your limitations. Permit your self to be human, fallible. Study from every day. This is the way to be a good mother. What do you believe you studied it takes to be a great mother? so what are your thoughts at the conduct had to be an excellent mother? Do you accept as true with this listing, or disagree? What are your favorite conduct of motherhood?

Toils For A Prince Part 1 ~What Shouldn't Have Been~
"Y/N! You know we shouldn't be here!" A very young Yui worriedly shook her webbed hands in front of said friend's face, trying very hard to sway Y/N into moving away from the human ships.
"Hehe, don't worry. It's not like anyone's here." The girl brushed her off, swimming closer to the docks. Her iridescent blue tail gliding through the water as she reached her hands out, pushing them against the current and closer to her goal.
"Ohhh...." Yui bit her lip and stayed her spotty pink and white tail before breathing out an exasperated breath and chasing after her. "You always drag me into these things... Y/N... Can't we just leave? Our pod is gonna start looking for us..."
"You can, but then you'd have to explain where I went." Y/N giggled, talking with her hands. The blue-finned mermaid then turned on her back, facing the sky and splaying her hands and tail out. "Ahh.. We never get to be this close to the humans, don't you think it would be fun to learn somethin'?"
"What would we learn? How to flay a fish?!" Yui shivered. She was still a few yards away from the docks, keeping her distance from anything human related. "You know what my father taught us... They're dangerous." She bit her lip again.
"What if they've changed?"
Yui stayed quiet, but as her friend opened her eyes and moved to an upright posistion, she could see the disproving look in her eyes.
Y/N shrugged, diving back under the water and moving right under the docks. She could hear humans shouting in the distance, and though they spoke the same language, she couldn't understand what it was they were saying.
Y/N relaxed under the shade of the wood panels. The spaces between the planks cast strange shadows on her small, peaceful face. She let out a sigh of contentment and let herself sink to the sand. Yui quietly swam to her, leaning over her face, covering it completely with shadows.
"Y/N..." She whispered. In response her friend just cracked open one brilliant E/C eye. "Come! On!" She struggled to tug the taller girl away, which only caused her to start giggling uncontrollably.
"Yui!" She squirmed as her smaller friend started to tickle her.
"I'll stop if you come back home!" Yui was giggling as well and she soon completely forgot where they were. It became an all out battle to make the other cry out for mercy. Y/N struggled to get away from Yui. Her tail wriggled wildly as she raced around the dock post, dodging Yui, always staying just out of reach. "Get back here!"
"Hehe, you can't make me!" Y/N raced away from the shoreline, her small body dodging under ships, racing over rocks, and slipping through coral. Yui was hot on her tail the whole time, reaching out to grab her.
Almost got her... Yui thought as she stretched her fingers just a bit more, when suddenly her friend did a complete 180°, leaving her in the dust.
"Haha! Tricked you!" Y/N shot back to the docks, her tail and fins working to propel herself forward. She could hear Yui panting, slowly catching up to her. "First to touch the top of the dock wins!" She shouted behind her, pushing her hands out to thrust herself even further infront of Yui.
"Aannnddd... I win!" The girl shouted, rising above the water and throwing herself on top of the panels she earlier layed under. "Haha!" She laughed, catching her breath before sliding into the water and away from the docks. Wiggling her small tail under the water and pushing her hands to the air in a small victory dance. As she opened her eyes she noticed Yui had stopped completely, her pink eyes were staring widely at something behind Y/N. She watched as Yui slowly sunk into the water, leaving only the top of her head and scared eyes above the water. "Y-Yui? What's wrong?" The small mermaid was terrified to turn around. It was well known that Yui constantly worried, she'd never acted like... This before.
Yui didn't respond, she was now staring daggers at whatever lay behind her friend. Y/N, with her heart hammering in her chest, gathered her courage and quickly turned around, refusing to talk herself out of it.
What she saw completely shocked her.
Y/N had seen pictures of all six princes of this particular kingdom. She knew their names and knew what they looked like. This was the closest human kingdom to where her and Yui's pod lived. Yui's father made them learn about these particular humans, he said it would help them avoid the boys.
Clearly it didn't work. Staring wide-eyed and shocked was the oldest of the young princes, Sakamaki Shuu. His hair was a blonde mess atop his head, his great blue eyes flickering between Y/N, who was extremely close to where he was standing, and Yui, who was still glaring. She must've recognized him immidiantly. She'd payed much closer attention to her father's lessons than Y/N did.
"U-um... Hi?" Y/N said akwardly.
The Prince said nothing, in fact his eyes widened even further and he took a step back. His green and gold uniform was splattered with water. Y/N realized she must've splashed him when she jumped on the docks. "S-sorry about getting you wet..." Y/N was trying really hard not to freak him out too much. If he ran back to his kingdom, to his mother more importantly, their entire pod could be in danger.
"You-you can talk." Shuu sputtered.
"...yeah?" Y/N didn't see why he would think she couldn't talk, it was very easy to, she considered to herself.
Yui was slowly approching the pair, the majority of her was still under the water but she let her head rise above the protection if the ocean.
Shuu tensed as she stopped next to Y/N and stared up at him. She didn't exactly give him a warm entrance.
"My father said that Sirens could only sing..." The boy mumbled.
Y/N snorted "Sirens are silly... And they eat humans." She mused, but quickly backtracked as Prince Shuu took another step back. "Ah! Wait- we're not Sirens!"
"Sirens would've already eaten you." Yui whispered, seeing that this human didn't pose a real threat to them.
"Wha- Yui that doesn't help our case!" And for a change it was Y/N scolding Yui.
"We shouldn't even be here! Much less talking to one of them!" Yui shouted, grabbing Y/N's hand and tugging it away from Shuu.
"Shuu Sakamaki! What are you doing out here? You need to be inside studying!" A woman's voice called out, full of authority.
Y/N and Yui immidiantly froze and ducked their heads down, but not completely into the water.
"Hide!" He mummered, eyes slanting slightly, before turning to face his mother. Y/N desperately grabbed Yui's hand, who was frozen with fear, and scrambled under the shade of the dock. "Mother. I was just taking a break. May I have a few more minutes to myself?"
Y/N drowned out their voices, focusing on calming Yui down. She dragged her down to the sand before shaking her shoulders, her short hair formed a halo in the water. "Yui!"
"Stop! Shaking! Me!" This time it was Yui who grabbed Y/N's hand. "We need to go! That's Beatrix!"
"Wah-" Y/N barely had time to collect her thoughts before Yui was dragging them back to their pod.
Only when the shore was barely a line on the horizon did they stop. Y/N couldn't get that last look he cast her out of her head. He looked so disappointed that his mother came. Even when he seemed scared of them his blue eyes had never pierced her in such a way. It was so... Lifeless, the way his eyes darkened.
***
Shuu breathed out a sigh of relief as His mother turned to leave. She had begrudgingly granted him a little more time before he had to return to his duties.
The eldest Prince moved to the very edge of the docks before dropping to his belly and twisting his head to look under the dock. The water was one of the clearest in the world, his father made sure to keep it that way, so when he didn't see any hint of a beautiful blue tail he visibly deflated. They must've left as he spoke to his mother. He let out a small sigh at the realization. Shuu Sakamaki slowly rose to his feet and trecked back to the castle, and as he did many thoughts clouded his mind about the strange not-Sirens. What else could they be? Of all the tutors he'd been forced to learn under, they'd never mentioned any other types of half people-half fish.
But that was a thought for another day. For Shuu was young. And as of now, full of child-like energy.

Now that May, Myself and I is over I’d like to reflect on this month a little bit. This project was super interesting to me so i’ll talk about every day
Day one (running) had to be a homage to Carrie Hope Fletcher, it was my only idea and felt like the right way to kick off the month
Day 2 (star) might just be my least favorite of all, not only because I was not super exited but also bc the execution is not great. I would normally never post it but the fun thing about this kind of project it that I can push myself
Day 3 (donuts) came with the conclusion that I like to draw. Was that obvious to anyone else? Not to me lmao. I just had so much fun with the white donut and I don’t even like donuts so that was exciting. Feels like something big, I was wondering for a wile and now I finally have an answer
Day 4 (red lips) isis one of my favorites and I didn’t even plan it a lot, it just happened. I usually have a very clear idea of what I want the end result to look like but this one happened very organically
Day 5 (eggs) is cute as hell imo. i was really excited when i had this idea
For Day 6 (weight) I just had to make some Luther fan art because that’s one of my favorite choices of character design. He is a big guy who carries the word on his shoulders, it’s a lot of weight
Day 7 (salty) freaked me out a bit tbh because I only had the mermaid idea but I felt like I couldn’t do it justice. I almost didn’t post it but again, it’s about putting myself out there
Day 8 (pranks) was easy and felt right to make some fan content about the Weasley twins again, trow back to my 2012 fic lmao
Day 9 (umbrella) just had to be about TUA, but the idea to do the totoro rain scene came later. I wasn’t expecting to do two fan arts of Luther but he is big and five is small so it fits and I love how it turned out. It was also fun to explore the comics style, I love Gabriel Ba’s work
Day 10 (bodies) is about my own relationship with body hair, so that was a obvious choice. I’m in a very happy place with my body at the moment and feel like I’m finally caring for it for the first time ever, but the body hair is still a struggle and I’m exploring with it. This day was also part of this exploration
Day 11 (sunflowers) is the most personal of them all. It’s my cousin who I love a lot and she planted a sunflower earlier this year so it fit perfectly
Day 12 (storms) looks cool, I struggled with the video colors so had to change a bit and I’m happy with how Kirstin turned out
Day 13 (little) was so funny to me and I feel like is seriously underrated lmao. It’s moomin! It’s John mulaney! Y’all are supposed to love that shit
Day 14 (curtains) was hard. I was so uninspired and it looks rough
Day 15 (black and white) looks cute. Every time I read the prompt list the song started playing in my had so it had to be
Day 16 (conscience) was also very personal because it carries a lot o weight to me and basically shaped who I am so there’s that. I like the end result
Day 17 (luck) was bad lol. I only had the idea very late and was not feeling so good, but it looks cool! The background was from another danger days fan art I did earlier this year and it was my first time mixing media like this
Day 18 (sparkles) was easy to choose and I like it
Day 19 (Myself) was a challenge! I wasn’t sure where I was going with it tbh but feels right
Day 20 (mundane) is honestly one of my favorites. I just love Mitch so much and he is anything but mundane so I wanted to play with it. The color palette came from his horny demon tattoo and I wanted to do some supernatural stuff but subtle, so mostly on the shadow. It looks really good in my humble opinion lol
Day 21 (space) is another one that I love. I wasn’t sure what to do with this prompt because my first idea was something that I still relate a lot with my ex and I’m not quite there yet to reclaim and not think about him. Lucky I couldn’t stop listening to thank u, next and ari gave me some inspiration. The color palette of this one is the nasa logo
Day 22 (bloom) was maybe the first idea I had for this month lol. I just love the album in general and this song in particular and it looks exactly how I hoped it would
Day 23 (kindness) was terrible, probably because I’m very unkind to myself. I make bulbasaur because he makes me happy and he is great but honestly it was a bad day
For Day 24 (letters) I was going to be sappy and write a letter to myself instead of drawing something but Sza saved me and I did her supermodel look instead. I still listen to this album a lot and it hits home for me
Day 25 (moon) was also easy. I love avatar, I love Yue, it looks just how I wanted it to look
Day 26 (Jekyll and Hyde) was challenging bc I’m not super familiar with it and I was going to read the novel but was not in the mood lol. I did listen to the musical tho and confrontation reminded of left brain right brain By bo burnham. What. is one of my favorite stand ups of all time so I used this as an excuse to watch it again. It fits tho, I’m happy with it
Day 27 (circles) is basically a redraw of one of my inktober posts. I was not feeling inspired but it looks better than the first one so there’s that
Day 28 (chaos) is all about my mental health and I think it translated it well. The colors are not the ones I usually reach for but that was cool and different. I think this one really stands out
Day 29 (praise) is the one day I skipped. I was feeling bad and had nothing, zero ideas. So I didn’t push it. It was a day to remind myself that this is a challenge but it’s supposed to be fun, it’s something I’m doing for myself
On Day 30 (apologies) I woke up feeling terrible and scared so I decided to listen to some soft music to calm down. That did Not work lmao, so I listened to my chemical romance and the used instead. This empty with you quote was on my IM messenger for a long time and it fit with both the prompt and my mood
Day 31 (Hope) I came full circle and made another Carrie Hope fletcher fan art. I talked a lot already about how I look up to Carrie, so that was a perfect way to finish this month

Hello again! I wanted to thank you for accepting my request before, I loved it. I was wondering if you have any plans in near future? I really enjoyed the previous comic you did. Anyway never stop being awesome!
YOU’Re weLCome 💙💙
Also yeah I have… P L A N S. I have a lot of them actually, and since I have like… no self-control or sense of organization in terms of mostly my comics, I’ll just dump all of what is in progress NOW. …(and also stuff I’d LIKE to do, cuz I have quite a bit) Though, I have cancelled a lot too due to too much time passing. I think a lot of old Yantan-centric related stuff got shelved despite progress being made cuz they became too dated.
**IN-PROGRESS: NEAR FUTURE**
[Set in earlier DB] Short Comic showing how Marzi met (and subsequently became infatuated with) Yamcha. It’s probably the farthest along in it’s development cuz it’s technically “finished” just not “COMPLETE”, you dig? I may have bitten off more than I can chew by choosing to make it colored 😂 IT’S HONESTLY A REALLY KIND OF… ESSENTIAL LITTLE STORY THAT I HAVE TO KEEP MYSELF FROM REFERENCING IN ALL KINDS OF STUF because out of context it makes no sense. It’s hard referencing an event that no one (excluding in-universe characters) outside of my own mind has seen.
^Another Marzi follow up to the above involving a very specific “pls notice me” shenanigan. It’s also kind of important in a sense, and I have to keep myself from referencing that too. Though I think I have once on impulse. There’s a rock. Either way, both of these things sorta answer stuff I feel like i’ve neglected to “elaborate” on in a sense… (tho i dont think anyone is wondering anything as specific as I am really)
**IN-PROGRESS: FAR FUTURE**
[ahem] A Yamcha Cinderella AU. Yes. That’s happening. It’s not too far along, but I have the whole story already and drew a few pages. It’s pretty much lodged into my system. IT’S BEING MADE……!!!! I DIDN’T STUDY CHINESE STYLE LANDSCAPE PAINTINGS JUST TO NOT USE IT FOR SOMETHING ABSURD. Idk why I’m talking about this AU since I don’t think I’ll be posting it publicly.
A comic regarding an adventure Yantan has in the snowy north. It’s not really “important” per se, but it’s something I wanna tell anyway.
**NOT IN PROGRESS BUT LOTS OF PERSONAL CONCEPTS HAVE BEEN DRAWN**
Some kind of Puarfia AU thing. Whether it’ll be a comic or not is up in the air. I feel like I need a coherent story first. But it’s world is already pretty much built along with histories- unfortunately I’m no writer 😭 Puarfia may be too big an ambition for someone like me.
That… [little] Mermaid AU thing. I kind of want to make a comic about THAT. Other than the ending that i’m still torn over, that has a pretty linear story in my head. I feel like it COULD work??  And like Puarfia, quite a bit has been built for it’s world- but unlike Puarfia it’s a lot simpler. But, i don’t know yet.
…proposal….
I WANT TO MAKE AN ANIMATIC OF SOME GOOFY THING I THOUGHT ABOUT… what is it??  It’s set somewhere within the first two in-progress comics. Just something dumb really.
… *coughs* How the heck Yamcha and Marzi like… became a… thing. Although being this deep into this hole makes me reconsider if this even matters anymore 🤔🤔🤔 It FEELS like an important thing but at the same time. Idfk.
I have a solo Bulla related “reluctant hero” type AU thing I dabbled in over the summer. Although, I don’t know if I’ll continue forward with it due to personal stuff🤔
~~~~~~
And since I’m in the direct line of fire for Hurricane Florence, (at this moment- and i’ll be left on campus too mind you ._.), I’ll probably have a lot of extra free time on my hands if internet cuts out. I wanna make SOMETHING. Or finish something at least. It’d be nice to finish ANYTHING, but that first WIP is the next “complete” thing I WANT finished. IT HAS ALL IT’S PIECES TOGETHER. I don’t want another case of “I started this 2 years ago, but i stopped so here it is I guess” situation like with the Yamcha Wish comic. (Which was also suuuper important, so it sucks I kinda just… dumped it out in the mediocre state it was in.
Unless I scribble completely new unexpected stuff, in which case I’ll accept those too 😭😭 u can see i am quite varied /s
But I love AUs. If im inspired enough they can jump RIGHT into in progress rather quickly (I LIVE FOR AUs AND IF I HAD MORE I’D- HNNNNNGH, but most of my AUs tend to come from others suggestions [Mermaid/Cinderella] or me taking something average and warpingg it [Puarfia])
BUT YEAH.  C O M I C S…….. A MESSY TIME
hi! i saw your posts in the mili tag and just wanted give some ideas/fun facts!
First of all, while it’s a weak connection and might just be an easter egg, in world.execute(me) on the line “Oh we can travel, to AD, to BC” when it says AD, the code says the year 617, the same number on which the chapter of Scientific Witchery starts on! (I dont think we’ve seen anything for the other year we get on the song yet). So, if we DO assume world(execute).me and all other connected songs are vaguely related to ga1ahad, maybe it could be another way of trying to revive him? this only works on the “magic is actually science” theory i think, since those are all based on programming and robots.
Another song that could be VAGUELY related is yu wo gongming-NENTEN- (this could be wrong since i haven’t watched bloodivores and it’s its opening, but I think it’s worth mentioning) for starters, it contains the lulalila chant we know and, again, assuming cerebrite IS connected, there are these interesting lines:
“I stand at my place of origin and spin rapidly” “Remove your past, remove your memories”
That are REALLY similar to these lines in cerebrite
“Spin and spin Forget all your worries Spin and Spin Forget your identity”
The song also makes reference to chasing after someone’s “illusive figure” and at some point to “layers and layers of white fog unfamiliar to the mortal realm” which, imo, is really suggesting of trying to bring back someone back from the dead.
So, yeah those are my two cents on the whole Mili Connected Songs Deal, but I’m sure there’s more (DK, from hue, has a really similar name to RTRT, and maybe the crystal eyes mentioned could be the plastic eyes from RTRT and i THINK witch’s invitation?)
WHoa really cool submit!!!// thank you for your insight, kinda embarrassing to admit but those two songs you’ve mentioned happened to be the ones I’ve yet closely looked into, but yeah!!  world.execute(me) may have a connection to the ga1ahad songs from what you’re saying and it’s an interesting discovery! I felt it would be closely tied to  world.search(you); somehow because of the similarities in title (I’ve also read that world.search(you); follows the lyrics of world.execute(me)) and that song seems to be intertwined with Rubber Human (this song happens to have an astronaut drawn in the illustrations!! like the one mentioned in Excαlibur)
I’ve thought of mentioning about those songs in the earlier post; but the connection seemed a little vague. However, after reading about what you’ve found it seems there could be a stronger connection or like what you’ve said, there’s an easter egg at least!!
mm mm you’re right! I think RTRT and DK probably has something to do with each other (a lot of people seem to be thinking the same thing!), but after reading DK’s lyrics I felt it had more similarities with Bathtub Mermaid.. the feelings it gives and the really depressing lyrics;; it just gives off a really similar feeling. Coming to think of it, this song ALSO has the Lulala lulalila chanting bit;; uhh I’m starting to become confused if this is just a mili thing or if it’s something that really does have to do with the witch (I thought it had something to do with the witch’s songs and spells at first because it keeps saying she chants this magical spell before this bit comes in the songs)
ahh I should try giving NENTEN a listen because unlike the other songs you’ve mentioned that I could say something about, I still haven’t really given that song a try.. there are so many mili songs out there?? Whoa (which is indeed a blessing! :D) according to what you’ve written though the lyrics from that certain section seems too close to be just dismissed as mere coincidence
All this thinking makes my head spin but the more I read your submit and the more I read over mili’s songs I am getting a hunch that they are up to something.. like making some kind of a universe with their songs!! Again, thank you for sharing your thought about them..! It was a nice read!
Post 11: Coming Out Day 2017
Tumblr media
So if you did not know I, myself is Pan as in Pansexuality. “Pan” is a root for all and I like all genders. Now before I get that one person who says “there only two genders”, please read these and more if want. Gender been a fluid concept during the times people who happened to be indigenous, so the binary a new structure when compared to now.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Two-spirit
https://indiancountrymedianetwork.com/culture/social-issues/8-misconceptions-things-know-two-spirit-people/
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Third_gender
Now to the fun LGBTQ+ parts of my life.
Tumblr media
I started coming out officially on July 20, 2014. I know remember that seeing i had a cousin’s spouse had their third kid a couple days later, yet the family thought something like the water broke earlier or something sent her to the  hospital. Granted I had hint my attraction earlier, yet once I learned what Pansexuality was, more specifically panromantic, it fit as my romantic orientation, plus I am still unsure what my sexual orientation. Only am I Demi-pansexual, Ace-pansexual, or what? Any who fun. I accidentally out myself in front of my family of Winter Break of that year. Chrismas Eve and one of my aunts telling me how proud and more she is of me, due I felt depressed that break, then when I came out she smiled and whispered “you are still my favorite”. So after telling my family who questioned me and asked things like “you like boys” ( Plus heteronormative and romantic attraction is harder to tell sometimes if you like someone as a friend or not.) and I said “well not just boys all gender, like I want seek a romantic bond with the person by liking their personality and Soul”.  Oh did I mention my family is Catholic? Luckily my family pass the message of love, not hate difference. As well as, I had family members before me (I want to say three or two cousins of older generations, from one side of my family) who happened to be gay, so my family been supportive.
Tumblr media
So since then I dated two or three ladies (I say or due one I recall telling me felt some days agender, so I want to respect that chance she is non-binary, plus the same person was my first kiss), two gents. Granted I dated one or two guys before coming out (I say one maybe because of the boys came out as gay two years after I came out). Granted besides be only romantic, I am waiting till marriage, so I am proud to have dated people who respected that choice. My last ex though, he was pain, like ugh. :( I am glad never fell for the “I can make it special”, umm no. I only kissed three people, so to me kissing the most physical intimacy, unless (I count this) cuddling is counted too. Now to answer the unspoken question people ask me, what lips are more kissable?
Tumblr media
^ Ariel represent my first kiss (because that ex loves “The Little Mermaid”) and the person (I am trying not use pronouns due again last time we talked, mentioned feels her gender may be something like demi-girl, agender and woman). Best sum a peck and felt good to kiss, please yes to being her first kiss too.
Tumblr media
^ Naveen represent my second kiss due he looks closest to him. I was his first kiss and Lord true magic. XD Just passionate kisses and treated me well. ^*_*^ Granted he transfer out of state and I miss him. :(
Tumblr media
^ Milo be my third kiss (granted that ex had a beard and I am not typical a beard fan. XP ) and was fun, yet nothing note worthy. I felt so annoyed how many times i said no to him hinting at you know what, like bub I said not, so stop pushing. Luckily that relationship was short, under a month.
Tumblr media
So my best answer, any gender can be a good kisser (at least to me), just ask each other what feels right and read one another well. XD Just be “Frozen” Kristoff, ask first even if unsure, I have asked two of my three. Third on did NOT ask me and goodness was not fun.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hg4FMOD2_Lc (spoilers to “Frozen”)
If have any questions for me about my relation to the LGBTQ+ Community, please ask me and I can try my best to answer. Been a slice.
Tale as old as time
So the other day I went on somewhat of a twitter rant regarding the remake of Beauty and The Beast and Disney’s choice to incorporate a gay character into the movie. I was surprised at how many responses (particularly DM’s) I got regarding my post(s) and so I’ve decided to write a tad more about it on a platform that gave me more than 140 characters. It’s Friday night, I’m drinking tequila in pajamas and writing about a Disney movie. Living the dream, am I right? So, to help put into context where I was coming from when I wrote my tweets:
The original story of Beauty and The Beast came out in 1701 (HOLY CRAP, RIGHT?) and Disney turned that story into an original film in 1991. I was born in 1993, so as a child I grew up watching the “OG” Disney princess movies. B&TB, The Little mermaid, Snow White, Pocahontas, etc. etc. That being said, even as A young child, I was never obsessed with the Disney princesses or their stories.  They were all well and good but I didn’t LOVE the music or the stories, so usually seeing them once was enough for me.
Except for B&TB. Beauty and The Beast was TOTALLY different for me. I remember being 6 or 7 and having a babysitter come over to watch my twin brother and I, and she brought B&TB for us to watch. We made popcorn and turned off the lights and popped in the VHS (lol) and immediately I was hooked. The opening scene, which plays out like it’s being read from a story book, stayed with me well into adulthood.
“Who could ever love a beast?”
 The opening monologue sets up The Beast’s storyline. The Beast is a handsome, wealthy prince who, in his selfishness and narcissism, refuses to help a homeless woman seeking shelter from a storm. Unfortunately for the handsome young prince, the homeless woman ends up being a witch (like, go figure, right?), who curses the beast with ugliness. Until the Beast can learn kindness and let love into his heart, he’ll remain a physical representation of the monster he is. AKA, The Beast.
I remember sitting down on the couch next to my (straight) twin brother, whose initial thoughts on the beast were:
1) OMG HE’S SO SCARY
and
2) What a jerk!
After the opening monologue, six year old me thought the exact same thing. As the movie progresses we meet Belle, A smart, assertive, beautiful young woman in a small french town who loves her dad, reading, and creating inventions. Belle is great, I love Belle. She wasn’t selfish like Arial and she wasn’t willing to risk the lives of her family and friends for love like Pocahontas. Belle had a love for books, which, even that young, I identified with. I love reading to this day, and I can trace that love back to Belle.
But this post, as well as my post earlier this week on twitter, is not about Belle.
This post is about The Beast and Gaston. Six year old me was introduced to Gaston, the handsome, masculine, arrogant suitor whose story is entirely centered around his pursuit of Belle. Six year old me watched B&TB and could NOT understand what Belle DIDN’T like about him. He was so handsome and charming and willing to do just about ANYTHING to impress Belle. Why didn’t she like him? I liked him. I liked him A LOT.
I remember innocently thinking these things to myself, and then hearing my twin brother say stuff about Gaston which was NOTHING like what I was thinking.
“He’s evil!”
“He doesn’t love her!”
“What a jerk!”
Six year old me at the time didn’t realize that I was having my first gay crush. As I grew up, I’d feel the same thing for a myriad of fictional characters. Literally all the male Power Rangers, Batman AND Robin, Ice Man...the list goes on and on. But thats one of the first times I really remember having a “gay” thought. I thought Gaston was handsome.
 Belle’s dad eventually gets captured by the enigmatic and terrifying Beast.
As the story continues, Belle ends up sacrificing her freedom in exchange for her father’s (WHAT A BRAVE BITCH THOUGH, FOR REAL), who in turn rushes back to town to try and convince people to go and save Belle. While this is happening, Belle is held as prisoner by The Beast, who, as my brother put at the time was “really scary.” The Beast is a total dick. He demands Belle only venture to certain parts of the castle, is constantly storming around and shouting at Belle and the enchanted pieces of anthropomorphic furniture that inhabit the castle, and is honestly more dramatic than a Real House Wife. However, as time progresses, the Beast and Belle begin to form a relationship. That catalyst to this relationship being when The Beast saves Belle from a pack of wolves who were DEF going to eat her and her horse. It’s the first time we see that The Beast is NOT as harsh as his exterior may insinuate, and it’s the first real moment where Belle sees The Beast as more than just a monster. The rest of the story I know most of you are familiar with, so I won’t spend the rest of this post giving a synopsis. At the end of the movie, The Beast realizes his love for Belle, who has spent majority of the movie showing The Beast that he’s capable of loving someone other than himself. They finally kiss, and The Beast transforms back into his human form, and they all live happily ever after.
Six year old me was shook.
I remember asking our babysitter if I could borrow the movie, and after she had left and everyone in our house had gone to bed, watching it again. It was so epic, the whole thing. Gaston getting a WHOLE town to venture into the woods to kill a monster so he could marry Belle. The Beast fighting Gaston on a rooftop in the middle of fucking rainstorm so HE could be with Belle. I remember thinking how jealous of Belle I was. TWO GUYS fighting over her, hello?
But in all seriousness, six year old me liked the movie a lot. It stuck with me.
So when 12 year old me rewatched the movie in the middle of a ton of puberty, suddenly the movie was A LOT more important. Six years later and I felt like The Beast. At this point I knew I was gay. I knew what gay was, and I knew that was what I was. Like so many guys in the closet, I hid it to the best of my ability, and my best act was by being a fucking jerk. I was nasty to my brother, my friends, parents, girls, guys, dogs, bugs, whatever. If it had a pulse, I had to put up some level of crassness because that would divert form the fact that I really wanted a boyfriend.
Suddenly, The Beast was not so scary.
“...Although he had everything his heart desired, the prince was spoiled, selfish, and unkind...”
“WHO COULD EVER LOVE A BEAST?”
There was Gaston again, his bulging muscles, his slicked back hair. “God,” I remember muttering to myself, “what is wrong with me?”
At this point, I knew Gaston was a piece of shit...But he was still hot.
As a teenager I remember watching the movie alone and really relating to The Beast. His castle, all by himself...cold, angry, upset. The Beast tears mirrors in his house down because he can hardly stand the sight of himself. The Beast does everything but injure the other inhabitants of the castle, who live not only in fear of him, but in confusion as to why he is the way he is. I can only imagine my family and friends thought similar things about me. Then Belle comes in, and she’s brave, and she’s kind, and she’s patient.
They slowly learn about each other, they bond over books and animals.
16 and 17 year old me wished desperately for a boy like Belle. Someone who was going to look past my harsh exterior, past the parts of myself I could hardly stand to look at. Belle shows The Beast that we all have parts of ourselves that we don’t like. Belle shows The Beast that we deserve love not in despite of our beasts, but because of them. Our “beasts” are just a part of us, not who we are as a whole.
Beauty and The Beast taught me from a very young age that we all deserved love, that monsters live inside of all of us--and that love sees through them. Beauty and the Beast helped show me my gayness, and time and time again showed me that even though I didn’t like who I was, someone would love me for it.
SO when Disney announced earlier this week that they were writing in a gay character into the live action remake of B&TB, it struck a real nerve. When I found out that Lefou, Gaston’s sidekick, would have a “gay moment” directed at Gaston, I had mixed emotions. The six year old me totally would have understood Lefou’s infatuation with Gaston. Even 23 year old me gets it. However, what bothered me was the obvious stereotypical storyline of the gay man falling in love with a straight guy.
I’m thrilled Disney is trying to incorporate queerness into its content. I want to make that clear. I think the more LGBTQ characters we can incorporate into mainstream media, the better. That was NOT what I was getting at in my tweets the other day. Really I was expressing my frustration for how Disney had decided to incorporate gayness into Beauty and the Beast, a story that had helped me understand and realize my own sexuality. I’m frustrated because I KNOW countless young boys (some of whom ARE gay) are going to end up seeing this movie, and rather than see a gay character who recognizes his love and infatuation as something good and worthy and something not to be ashamed of...Is going to see it in a way I remember feeling it SO many times while watching the original Beauty and The Beast. Disney has a real opportunity to show that gay love is something just as true and good as the love between Belle and the prince, love that deserves a happy ending. MY HOPE is that they take that opportunity with Lefou and make it something that helps little kids the way I NEEDED it when I was young.
Gay love is real love, gay love is pure love, and gay love is powerful. It is JUST as scary and unexpected and magical as love between a man and a woman. Beauty and The Beast helped me realize that, and I hope that the remake can help evoke those same emotions for a generation of gay youth that are going to see it.
27 top character design tips
New Post has been published on https://computerguideto.com/awesome/27-top-character-design-tips/
27 top character design tips
Character design can be a tricky beast to tackle. Creating your own character from scratch involves a lot of creative thinking. Although many of the classic characters familiar to us all through cartoons, movies and ad look straightforward, a lot of skill and attempt will have gone into building them so effective.
From Mickey Mouse& apos; s famous three-fingered hands- drawn to save production time when he was first developed for animations in the 1920 s- to the elegant simplicity of Homer Simpson, character design has always been about maintaining it simple.
Get Adobe Creative Cloud
But aside from clean lines and easily readable features, what else do you need to consider for your character design? There& apos; s knowing what to exaggerate and what to play down, what to add to give a hint of background and depth, and what to do to develop personality.
And then there& apos; s the matter of the technicalities of how to draw your character design. If it& apos; s going to be used in motion or as part of a cartoon strip, you& apos; ll need to make sure it works from any slant( easier said than done, as this unsettling top-down view of Mickey Mouse demonstrates ).
For this article, we asked a range of leading artists and illustrators their advice on making memorable, unique character designs. Many of these tips come from Pictoplasma, an annual character design celebration in Berlin.
01. Don& apos; t lose the magic
Make sure you don’t polish all the charm from your characters[ Image: Laurie Rowan]
Many character designers will start their project with a sketch. And most agree decorators agree this is often where the essence of the character is captured. So when you& apos; re work up your design, make sure you don& apos; t lose that magic.
“I try to stick to my original depict style, because the instinct is to try and clean it up, ” says Laurie Rowan. “I don& apos; t like to feel like I& apos; ve created by characters; I like to feel like I& apos; ve kind of only encountered them.”
“When starting out on your character design, don’t get caught up in the details, ” says Pernille Orum. “Decide what you’re trying to communicate, then create loose sketches with movement, acting and flow. As soon as you start to tighten up the drawing, you’ll automatically lose some of the dynamic, so it’s important to have as much life in the early stages as possible. Movement is all but impossible to add later, so make sure it’s in the initial sketch.”
02. Step away from the reference material
While inspiration needs to come from somewhere, the aim is to create something original. So Robert Wallace- known as Parallel Teeth– suggests not having the reference material right in front of you as you work.
“If you look at something and then you try and hazily remember it in your intellect, that& apos; s when you end up inducing something new, rather than a pastiche of something, ” he says. Above you can see Wallace& apos; s new take on well-known festive figures, created for a Hong Kong department store.
03. Research other characters
For guidance, it can be helpful to try and deconstruct why certain character designs run and why some don& apos; t. There& apos; s no famine of research material to be found, with illustrated characters appearing everywhere: on TV commercials, cereal boxes, store signs, stickers on fruit, animations on mobile phones, and more. Study these character designs and think about what induces some successful and what in particular you like about them.
“When you work with characters you need to be inspired, ” advises Orum, “and you can do this through research. Your mind is a visual library that you can fill up. Try to notice people around you- how they stroll, their gestures, how they dress- and use that in your design.”
04. … but also look elsewhere
It& apos; s also a good notion to look beyond character designs when hunting for inspiration. “I like birds& apos; mating rituals a lot, ” chuckles Rowan. The odd movements can spark unique character behaviour.
“When I begin a project, I often start with the feeling I want to evoke, ” he adds. The process begins with the designer taking videos of himself as a reference, trying to capture something of the character idea& apos; s movement or posture.
Other inspirations include ceramics- an organic texture and muted colour palette stop his work feeling too clinical- and folk costumes.
05. Don& apos; t lose sight of the fact the original notion
Sea of Solitude is an upcoming game by Jo-Mei studio[ Image: Jo-Mei]
It& apos; s easy to subconsciously let our favourite designs influence us. Cornelia Geppert, CEO of indie games studio Jo-Mei, is a huge fan of The Last Guardian, with its unique aesthetic and great video game character designs.
At one point one of her team members had to say to her that their Sea of Solitude design was looking a little too similar to The Last Guardian. She appeared back at her initial artworks, and it brought back the feeling she had when creating them. The project changed back on track.
06. Exaggerate
Exaggerating the defining features of your character design will help it appear larger than life. Exaggerated features will also help spectators to identify the character& apos; s key qualities. Exaggeration is key in cartoon caricatures and helps emphasise certain personality traits. If your character is strong, don& apos; t only dedicate it normal-sized bulging limbs, soup them up so that they& apos; re five times as big as they should be.
The technique of exaggeration can be applied to characteristics, too. Anna Mantzaris& apos; hilarious Enough film( above) presents everyday characters in mundane situations, doing the things we& apos; ve all dreamed of doing on a bad day. “I think it& apos; s fun with animation that you can push things further, and people will still accept it as real, ” she says. “With live action it would look absurd. You can also push the emotion further.”
07. Decide who your character design is aimed at
Nathan Jurevicius’ Scarygirl features in games and a graphic fiction[ Image: Nathan Jurevicius]
Think about your audience. Character designs aimed at young children, for example, are typically designed around basic shapes and bright colours. If you& apos; re working for a client, the character& apos; s target audience is usually predetermined, as Aussie artist Nathan Jurevicius explains.
“Commissioned character designs are usually more restrictive but no less creative. Clients have specific needs but also want me to do my& apos; thing& apos ;. Usually, I& apos; ll break down the core features and personality. For example, if the eyes are important then I& apos; ll focus the whole design around the face, making this the key feature that stands out.”
08. Make your character distinctive
Matt Groening used yellow to construct The Simpsons characters stand out from the crowd
Whether you& apos; re creating a monkey, robot or monster, you can guarantee there are going to be a hundred other similar creations out there. Your character design needs to be strong and interesting in a visual sense to get people& apos; s attention.
When devising The Simpsons, Matt Groening knew he had to offer the spectators something different. He has pointed out that when viewers were flicking through Tv channels and came across the show, the characters& apos; remarkably bright yellow skin colour would grab their attention.
09. Create clear silhouettes
A silhouette helps you understand the character’s gesture[ image: Pernille Orum]
Another good way to make your character distinct and improve its pose, says Orum, is to turn it into a silhouette. “Then you can see how the character’ reads’ and if you need to stimulate the gesture more clear. Do you understand the emotion of the character and see the line of action? Can things be simplified? Try not to overlap everything, and keep the limbs separate.”
07. Develop a line of action
A line of action is the backbone of a character drawing[ Image: Pernille Orum]
One key aspect to consider when creating a character design is the line of action. This is what defines the direction of your character, as well as being a useful narrative tool and bringing a feeling of movement.
“Try to bring the line of action all the way out to the extremities, ” says Orum. “A ballet dancer is a good example: they emphasise the line from the tips of their toes to the tips of their fingers. The line of action is also easier to see in beings with fewer extremities, which is why mermaids are an ideal subject for developing a strong line of action.”
08. Make it personal
Geppert& apos; s Sea of Solitude video game is an exploration of her experiences of loneliness. Intensely personal though it may be, the game made a chord with audiences when it was previewed at E3 earlier in the year, because it deals with an experience that is so universal yet still strangely taboo.
“The best art is based on personal experiences. People can relate better if it& apos; s based on the truth, ” says Geppert. “It& apos; s not a made-up story, even though it& apos; s based in a fantastical setting.”
09. Find the posture first
Posture can say a lot about a character[ Image: Felicie Haymoz/ Wes Anderson]
Felicie Haymoz has worked with Wes Anderson on both of his animated features: Fantastic Mr Fox and Isle of Dogs. When embarking on a new character design, Haymoz likes to start by finding the individual& apos; s posture. This element can start the ball rolling on the whole feel of the personality. “I try to capture the stance of the character. Are they hunched over, or are they sitting straight-out and proud? ” She also notes the face is important to get right.
Read more of Haymoz& apos; s film character tips-off here.
10. Consider line quality
Straight and curved lines are read by your eyes at different velocities[ image: Pernille Orum]
The drawn lines of which your character design is composed can go some style to describing him. Thick, even, soft and round lines may suggest an approachable, cute character, whereas sharp, scratchy and uneven lines might point to an uneasy and erratic character.
Orum recommends balancing straight and curved lines. “Straight lines and curves gives your character design a rhythm. A straight line( or a simple line) leads the eye rapidly, while a curved( or detailed line) slows down the eye .& apos ;P TAGEND
It& apos; s also worth considering the balance between stretch and compressing. “Even a neutral pose can lead the eye by applying these two approaches, resulting in an effective character design, ” says Orum.
11. Use a joke structure
Rowan grew a name for himself by sharing humorous clips of his characters on Instagram, and went on to work on projects for Disney, the BBC and MTV, and earned himself a BAFTA award and nomination in the process. However, it was his less successful years doing standup comedy that provided inspiration for his trademark character animations.
“It& apos; s through standup I learned brevity. It& apos; s kind of a joke structure, ” he explains. Knowing how to frame the clip comes from past failures and successes on stage: “You very quickly learn how to hit certain phases, ” he chuckles.
12. Keep it simple
As well as knowing when to exaggerate, Orum is also keen to highlight the importance of simplicity. “I always try to communicate the designs with the fewest lines possible. It doesn’t mean that work hasn’t been put into creating the volume, placement and design of the character, but I try to simplify as much as possible and only put down the lines and colours that gives the necessary information.”
13. Consider all the angles
Hilda needed to work from all slants to appear in a cartoon strip[ Image: Luke Pearson/ Flying Eye Books]
Depending on what you have planned for your character design, you might need to work out what it will look like from all angles. A seemingly flat character can take on a whole new persona when seen from the side if, for example, it has a massive beer belly.
In the Character Design Crash Course workshop at Pictoplasma 2019, Jurevicius and Rilla Alexander asked attendees to sketch their character in poses held under other attendees, life depict style.
And if you& apos; re going to turn it into a comic strip, a la Luke Pearson& apos; s Hilda, it& apos; ll need to not only make sense from all slants, but seem good too.
“How to draw Hilda from behind without her hair swallowing her silhouette”, how to draw her beret from above; a long and drawn out battle with how her nose should look … these were all issues Pearson had to deal with when creating his character. The problems all ultimately led to design solutions.
14. Build it in 3D
If your character is going to exist within a 3D world, as an animation or even as a plaything, working out its height, weight and physical shape is all important. Alternatively, go one step further and create a model.
“Even if you& apos; re not someone who works in 3D, you can learn a lot by converting your character into three dimensions, ” says Alexander. It& apos; s a key part of the process the students follow at the Pictoplasma Academy.
15. Choose colours carefully
Complementary colourings create a pleasing balance[ image: Pernille Orum]
Colours can help communicate a character& apos; s personality. Typically, dark colours such as black, purples and grays illustrate baddies with malevolent aims.
Light colourings such as white, blues, pinks and yellows express innocence and purity. Comic-book reds, yellows and blues might run some style to devoting hero qualities to a character design.
“To choose effective colours, it’s important to understand the basic rules of colour, ” explains Orum. “Become familiar with the primary, secondary and tertiary colours, as well as monochromatic and complementary colours. One technique for generate an effective colour palette is to chose two complementary colours and work with them in a monochromatic colour scheme.”
“You’ll create balance because complementary colourings create dynamism, while monochrome colourings invoke feelings of pacify. You could also try a tertiary colour scheme, which adds a third colouring( for example, violet, orange and green ), and then work with monochromatic versions of those colours, but it demands more scheming and skill for it to work well. If you’re new to colour, try and keep it simple.”
To read more on this, insure our post on colour theory.
16. Don& apos; t forget the hair
Shape, divide and hairline are the secrets to drawing good hair[ image: Pernille Orum]
“Some years ago I went from detesting depict hair to loving it, ” Orum. “Previously, I used to view working out all the details and directions of the hair as a tedious attempt. Now I think of it more as a large, organic shape, which like a flag in the wind indicates and emphasises the movement of the character or its surroundings.
“Start by creating a large shape and divide it into shorter segments, while thinking about where the hair is parted and where the hairline is. Every line should help to define the volume, shape and direction of the hair.”
17. Add accessories
Props and clothing can help to emphasise character traits and their background. For instance, scruffy clothes can be used for poor characters, and lots of diamonds and bling for tasteless rich ones. Accessories can also be more literal extensions of your character& apos; s personality, such as a parrot on a pirate& apos; s shoulder or a maggot in a ghoul& apos; s skull.
18. Focus on facial expression
Facial expression is key to a character’s personality, as Tex Avery’s Droopy demonstrates
Expressions showing a character& apos; s range of emotions and illustrating its ups and downs will further flesh out your character. Depending on its personality, a figure& apos; s emotions might be muted and wry or explosive and wildly exaggerated.
“When you know the basics of depicting a face, play with the expression of the character, ” says Orum. “Use a mirror to read your own face and notice the subtle changes. Push and pull the eyebrows to show emotion. Avoid giving the face symmetry. The mouth will always prefers a side and it gives life to the drawing. And give the head a tilt to add nuance.”
Classic examples of exaggerated expressions can be found in the work of the legendary Tex Avery: the eyes of his Wild Wolf character often pop out of its head when it& apos; s aroused. Another example of how expressions communicate motions is deadpan Droopy, who barely registers any sort of emotion at all.
19. Give your character objectives
The driving force behind a character& apos; s personality is what it wants to achieve. This missing& apos; something& apos;- be it riches, a girlfriend or solving a mystery- can help to create the dramatic thrusting behind the narratives and adventures your character gets up to. Often the incompleteness or flaws in a character design are what make it interesting.
20. Build up a back tale
A scene can help reveal the identity of your character[ image: Pernille Orum]
If you& apos; re prepare the way for your character design to exist within comics and animations, then developing its back story is important. Where it comes from, how it came to exist and any life-changing events it has experienced are going to help back up the solidity of, and subsequent notion in, your character. Sometimes the telling of a character& apos; s back tale can be more interesting than the character& apos; s present adventures.
“If you’re experiencing problems when attempting to nail the essence of a character, try thinking of them in a certain situation, ” Orum advises. “Use the narrative to think about your character’s emotions before tackling the design, and add the details afterwards. Defining the scene is the best help when staring at a blank piece of paper, and it stimulates the process more fun, too! “
21. Remember it& apos; s not all about the face
Yukai Du utilizes hands to covey feeling[ image: Yukai Du]
Yukai Du is not what you& apos ;d call a typical character designer: none of her work features faces. Instead, her body part of choice is the hands. Having observe she wasn& apos; t good at capturing specific feelings within a facial expression, she turned to a different body proportion: the hands. “Hands are very expressive. You can tell a lot of tales with hands, and do it in a very subtle way, ” she says. Hands became her way of telling stories.
22. Make your character design flexible
Having decent software and materials to work with is useful, but not essential, when it comes to bringing your character to life. A lot of amazing characters were successfully designed years ago when no one had personal computers and Photoshop CC was just a dream.
If you character is really strong, you should be able to capture it with merely a pen and paper. Or, as Sune Ehlers sets it: “The character should still be able to work with a stick dipped in mud and described on asphalt.”
Top Photoshop tutorials 23. Get feedback from others
Show people your creations and ask them what they believe. Don’t just ask whether they like them or not. Instead, see if they can pick up the personalities and traits of your characters. Find who you think is the suitable or ideal audience for your work and get feedback specifically from them about it.
24. Make it honest
“A lot of my commercial project come out of my personal work. That& apos; s why I try to attain my personal work so honest to what I like. I think it comes through to the viewer that I& apos; m not just ticking boxes, ” says John Bond. The illustrator recently launched his debut picture book, NOT LOST, based on his Mini Rabbit character design.
25. Create the right environment
In the same way that you create a history for your character, you need to create an environment for it to help further cement believability in your creation. The world in which the character lives and interacts should in some way make sense to who the character is and what it gets up to.
26. Fine-tune your figure
Question each element of your creation, especially things such as its facial features. The slightest alteration can have a great consequence on how your character is perceived.
Illustrator Neil McFarland advises: “Think about the meaning of the word& apos; character& apos ;. You& apos; re supposed to breathe life into these things, construct them appealing and give them the magical that will allow people to imagine what they& apos; re like to meet and how they might move.”
27. Don& apos; t be afraid to make changes
Hilda has changed over the years, from volume to book, but Pearson explains that no one has pulled him up on it. “I like to think it entails the design is strong enough to withstand being pulled in all these different directions, ” he says.
30 Stylish Medium Shags You’ll Want To Try
Anjali Sayee January 30, 2019
The shag cut is back!
You heard that right! Shaggy hair is back in fashion and fast becoming one of the trendiest cuts. Though, earlier, the shaggy cut was sported on short hair, now, it’s more of a medium-length hairstyle. Before you raise your eyebrows, let me tell you one thing – once you get the medium shag cut, your morning styling routine will never be the same!
If you are a DIY queen, here’s how you can cut your own hair in a basic shag cut. You’re welcome!
How To Cut A Medium Shag Haircut
What You Need
Spray bottle filled with water
Elastic bands
Comb
Hair-cutting scissors
How To Do
Dampen your hair with the water spray.
Comb your hair and mark how long you want your shag cut to be.
Gather all your hair and tie it in a high ponytail.
Take another elastic band and tie it at the mark.
With a pair of scissors, cut your hair just below the elastic band.
Remove both elastic bands and check the layers.
You can fine style your hair but feather the layers. Simply use the point-cut method and thin out the ends. This will create the shag effect.
Now that you know how to cut your hair in a shag cut, let’s move on to how you can style it. Here are 30 stylish medium shag hairstyles to give you some style inspiration.
30 Stylish Medium Shag Haircuts You’ll Want To Try
1. Modern Shag
This is a modern take on the classic shag cut. The shaggy layers have been cut to suit the layering trend of our time. You can style your hair like this with the help of a round brush and a blow dryer.
2. Simple Shag
I get it, the shag cut can be overwhelming for those women who don’t want their layers to stand out too much. Fortunately, the shag is a versatile haircut. Opt for a toned down shag like this one.
3. Blonde Highlighted Shag
The shag hairstyle is all about volume with layers. When you have deep brown hair, adding blonde highlights can accentuate your layers and make your hair appear thicker and more textured.
4. Big Curly Ends Shag
Volume is a big issue for women with thin hair. The easiest solution is layers and curls. Adding layers will add depth and dimension to your tresses. The curls will add a texturized contrast, making your hair look bouncy and lively.
5. Thick Layered Shag
Women over 30 usually prefer this look. It’s easy to style, thanks to the heavy layers that start right at the top. On a bad hair day, you can also use the curls to cover up your problem areas!
6. Autumn Shag Cut
There are some hair colors that look great in specific seasons. For example, during autumn, you’ll notice earthy colors – like yellow, orange, and red – on display. Going for colors like this honey dimensional blend will accentuate your shaggy locks during fall.
7. Wavy Shag
The wavy shag is one of the best beachy looks. The layers and the wavy texture make your hair look like it’s been tousled by the sea breeze. Add some highlighted tips to give your hair a sun-kissed effect.
8. Ice Blonde Shag
Ice blonde has been a trending hair color ever since Elsa belted out “Let It Go” in Frozen. It gives you the perfect ice queen look. Add a shag cut to it, and you’ve got yourself a killer look.
9. Jet Black Shag
I love growing out my hair, but split ends and dryness make it look dull. The shag cut is a lifesaver for these hair issues. Getting regular trims will keep your hair looking fresh.
10. Dissociated Shag
Notice how there’s actually one main layer here. It is dissociated from the ends and stands out. The red-hued tips accentuate the layers without looking too overpowering.
11. The ‘90s Shag
This hairstyle was huge in the ‘90s. The only difference is it was shorter then. You can find innumerable celebs sporting this look. While it’s been gone for a while, it appears to be making a comeback with more teens opting for a medium length version of this cut.
12. Curled Modern Shag
The modern shag is sophisticated, thanks to its layers that start a little below the crown. Rather than the “stand out” layers of the classic shag, the modern shag is more about subtlety and style.
13. Classic Layered Shag
This is the perfect haircut for teens in school and college. It has stylish layers without being too long, which makes it easy to maintain. If you tie your hair in a pony or a bun, the layers will make it look effortlessly fashionable.
14. The Face-Framer Shag
Multiple layers paired with side bangs make up this haircut. The bangs make your face look longer and leaner. The multiple layers of flicked in and out ends accentuate your face shape and lines.
15. Smooth Shag
The smooth shag looks super sleek. Its side layers are combed out while the back layers are curled at the ends. You can achieve this look with the help of a round brush and a blow dryer. Get some highlights or lowlights to add dimension to your locks.
16. Choppy Shag
Say hello to the choppy shag or, as I like to call it, the modern emo look. This hairstyle is comprised of multiple layers with choppy ends. The choppy ends accentuate the layers and hair texture. Add some honey blonde highlights, and you’ll be ready to belt out “Sk8er Boi”!
17. Upturned Ends
Upturned ends, in my opinion, are an underrated style. They add volume to your hair without looking too over the top. They add a suave touch to your locks while making them look thicker.
18. The Winter Shag
The layers of this shag are not spread all around the head. They’re mainly concentrated at the sides. Towards the ends, they’re cut all around. This will add dimension to your hair. Let’s not forget about the color that is perfect for the winter!
19. Spring Ends
The ends of this shag cut look like springs. (I’m talking about the springs that make your bed bouncy.) The springy ends do the same for your hair. They make your hair look voluminous and flowy.
20. Thinning Layers
Since the layers are thinned out, this shag is best-suited for women with thick hair. I like the feathered and uneven layers. They add an angsty vibe to the hairstyle. This haircut looks great in a high ponytail.
21. Lowlighted Shag
We’ve often heard of highlights, but lowlights never seem to make the headlines. Depending on your hair color, lowlights can really help frame your face and add depth to your locks. While highlights tend to pop, lowlights make your natural hair color stand out.
22. Unicorn Shag
A shag cut is a great way to flaunt your hair color. Whether it’s just highlights or a complete color change, opt for a feathered ends shag, and you won’t be disappointed. The feathered ends also make your hair color look a bit faded out and texturized.
23. Soft Ends
Soft ends and shaggy layers go hand in hand. When paired together, they add tons of texture to your hair. They also add volume to your tresses to give you flawless bouncy locks.
24. Soft Shag
In this shag cut, the layers themselves look soft. This has been achieved by finishing each layer in long, thinned-out ends. This makes the shag appear much softer and also helps soften your face lines.
25. The Mature Shag
This haircut is opted by women over forty. It is simple and to the point. The layers are easy to style and add texture to the locks. The layers also add depth, making your locks look thicker.
26. The Messy Shag
Messy hair is all the rage. Everyone wants that perfect “I just got out of bed, but I’m this stunning” look. The shag cut will give you that flawlessly messy but stylish look. However, if you have curly hair, you’ll need to be prepared for frizz.
27. Razor-Cut Shag
This shag has been cut with the help of a razor. The light brown blend adds dimension, depth, and texture to these locks, making them look healthy and lush.
28. The Mermaid Shag
Mermaid hair is a timeless trend. Blending mermaid hair with a shag gives you this stunning hairstyle. It is already very stylish, but the color amps it up even more. The sharp ends accentuate the layers, which balances out with the color.
29. The Lob Shag
‘Lob’ is short for long bob. Whatever your bob may be, adding shag layers can make your hair look thicker and livelier. Thin out your ends to accentuate the hair color and volume.
30. Soft Shaggy Layers
Sometimes, the key is to go soft. This is a drastic change from the classic shag cut. The classic shag is all about layers accentuated with sharp and flicked-out ends. This cut is softer and more balanced.
It’s stunning what a medium shag can do to your hair. It can add volume and make it look healthier than ever. Consult your hairstylist to find out which one will work best for you. Which medium shag hairstyle do you want to opt for? Comment below and let me know!
