Edward is outraged by the sheer nerve and contemplates murder. Only the thought of Carlisle, beautiful and pure and sure to be devastated should Edward commit such a monstrous act, stays his hand.

Take two

Edward overhears a human who's met Carlisle have sexual thoughts about him. There is no intention of following through with any of it, just a self-indulgent, titillating fantas-

“My dear friend Carlisle! How I’ve missed you!” he says and, because it’s his culture and if he greets Jane that way, Carlisle can expect the same treatment, he kisses Carlisle full on the lips.

And lingers.

Edward is horrified that the bastard man would subject Carlisle to something so lewd, but he is admiring of how patient Carlisle is being. The man truly is a saint.
