Day 27 of drawing a goober a day until I ascend
Tumblr media
This is Sozo. Sozo is a bit scary, but she's got a heart of gold. Sozo used to be a vigilante but she ran out of crime. Nowadays she spends her free time building houses. Sozo doesn't stop, ever

Based on an RP I’ve been doing with @lizzywrites1
I drew Agustín and his Siblings ...who of which in the RP only Alejandra is alive. So I decided to draw Félix and his brothers.
Félix -     1st born -  5′5″  - 52 years old (he’s 17 in this picture) Felipe -     2nd born - 5′10″ - 51 years old (he’s 16 in this picture) Francisco -     3rd born - 5′8″ - 49 years old (he’s 14 in this picture) Fabian - 4th born - 5′7″ - 40 years old (he’s 5 in this picture)
Félix... well... we all know and love that man.
Felipe was the second born, favored by Mrs. Castillo which wasn’t necessarily a good thing. She pressed him to become an Engineer, though he absolutely hated math. He bitterly watched on as Félix got to learn about human anatomy and different interesting procedures while he had to delve into the intricacies of applied mathematics. He was only a year younger, but he felt like he was years ahead of Félix... and actually encouraged Félix to ‘run into’ the wild child of the Madrigals- because he KNEW it’d knock him down some pegs in the eyes of their parents.
Francisco wanted to be far more laid back than his parents allowed. His father was a well-taught psychologist prior to them settling in Encanto and starting this family... so he was the most violently taught. He couldn’t get anything wrong, or he would receive the belt. A disciplinarian at heart- their father took frustrations out on Francisco to the point where the slight jingle of a belt made the poor boy flinch. He was jealous that focus never shifted to Félix- who had a far more difficult profession to study for- but because he was so brilliant and also the sole caretaker of Fabian- the focus was never on him. He never got chastised for practicing incorrectly, it only ever seemed to be on Francisco... so he tried often to sabotage things that Félix did.
Fabian is the youngest... he looked up to Félix like a father. No one was cooler, or funnier, or more admirable than Félix! That was... until the day the family left Félix behind in Encanto. They wouldn’t tell him why...they just told him that he didn’t love Fabian. He’d rather love anyone else but Fabian. Their focus turned now to the young boy- instead of Félix becoming the doctor of the family... it was forced upon Fabian... but as he grew older, he grew bolder... just like Félix. Defying his parents wishes... instead of going to large hospitals to help the wealthy- he traveled to poorer towns to heal those who can’t otherwise afford it. He even did field work during the war times, tending to the wounded. Oftentimes doing things probono, somewhat to spite his parents... but also because somewhere in his heart- he remembered his big brother’s teachings to be kind to everyone, and even kinder to those in need.
RP backstory under cut~
In the RP- Félix hails from a bit of a bigot type of family- once residents of Encanto- not approving of Félix’s infatuation of Pépa. They had children but didn’t care too much in raising them in a warm way- lackluster in love, and very strict with teaching them ‘important’ trade skills. Wanting Félix to become a doctor, Francisco- a Psychologist and Felipe an Engineer.
When they had Fabian- it was immediately Félix’s duty as the oldest brother to care for him. Which made Pépa fall for the 13 year old Félix even harder (granted she was only 11 at the time). So in Félix’s heart, Fabian was like his first son- because he raised him for 5 years before ‘the event’ happened.
One day his parents became fed up with his spending all his time with Pépa, she wasn’t even a ‘real’ Colombian! Porcelain skin- green eyes- RED hair! They wanted nothing of it... so they gave him an ultimatum...
“choose your family and leave Encanto with us tomorrow- or stay with that girl and never see Fabian again”
With a broken heart... Félix chose love. Something he KNEW he’d never get if he left with his parents. They wouldn’t even let him say goodbye to Fabian. Left alone in Encanto- in the empty shell of his family home at 18 years old, a hole left in his heart, knowing he’ll never ever see his ‘son’...his baby brother Fabian ever again.

Prompt 74
When a new black-haired blue-eyed person appeared in the manor, one could easily be forgiven for thinking that Bruce’s adoption problem had struck again. So color many a batkid surprised that no, this kid isn’t a new sibling, no he didn’t get grabbed from the street, and actually he’s here for Alfred. Apparently Alfred never found it important to mentioned that he has a husband- that the kid kind of implies isn’t human what with the casual way he says he himself is half human- and that this kid is apparently their child. For once it’s Bruce’s turn to come home to a surprise sibling.
Danny on the other hand just learned that his Clockpa has a semi-mortal partner who has offered to take him in, (in another dimension even! And there’s aliens!!) while the ancient takes care of some stuff at home. And yeah it’s in a rich-manor but Sam has proved that not all rich people are evil, and based off of Mr Pennyworth’s stories the Waynes weren’t bad either. Though based off of the others’ reactions perhaps he should wait to mention that there wasn’t one new family member but three…

a paperback book isnt alive until you break its spine btw like a long slumbering animal being carefully roused it actually needs you to do that like when you click your knuckles. for your paperback book the breaking of its spine is like the first stretch against your pillow in the morning

Ok more coherent thoughts now. I can already see how this ending is probably going to be divisive and to an extent I understand why. Before it aired, I wasn't keen on the idea of the show ending like this. People don't like endings where the found family go their separate ways, except that isn't really what's happening here. And I think the way they did it was perfect.
Alison has come in and completely turned these ghosts' unlives around. She's given them purpose, connections with the outside world and each other, and above all a lack of boredom. Boredom is one of the main existential challenges the ghosts face. Alison isn't abandoning them to what they had before she came - she's leaving them with the tools to actually live rather than just exist after her.
And she's not gone forever! Families don't have to live together to be family. She comes back and visit them regularly! Maybe it's just because I moved out from my parents' in the last few years and I'm back for Christmas, but her being a regular at the hotel, coming back and visiting them at least every Christmas (maybe more) was very moving to me. Just because she's moved out doesn't mean they're not still family.
Having it become a hotel is a nice bookend and I bet it's improved the ghosts' quality of unlife a lot. As I said, their biggest challenge has always been boredom. A hotel/golf course probably isn't at all boring. How many affairs do you think Julian has watched? It's perfect for them, with all the people coming and going. I bet they even stage the odd haunting for fun. A constant, varied existence is a great fate for them.
Ending the episode with the plague ghosts was PERFECT. Obviously, it was great to see them again and it was hilarious as they always are. But it struck me just how much this decision has improved their situation - they've gone from dingy cellar to sauna. And that's the analogy of how much things have improved for all the ghosts.
Change is scary. It's sad when things come to an end. But sometimes it's for the best. And an end doesn't always mean a closed door.

so the good place is widely lauded on this site for its takes on morality and capitalism, which i totally agree with
but i think it should get more recognition for the line "all humans are aware of death. so we're all a little bit sad all the time. that's just the deal. we don't get offered any better ones. and if you try and ignore your sadness, it just ends up leaking out of you anyway. i've been there, and everybody's been there. so don't fight it. in the words of a very wise bed bath and beyond employee i once knew - go ahead and cry all you want. but you're gonna have to pay for that toilet plunger."
