Strange choice of master but we'll see where this goes.

The meteor shower animation is quite meditative. I wouldn't mind it as a screensaver.

How to describe something exceptional to your blind friend: "You've never not seen anything like this." It's amazing the quality put into even the tiniest of throwaway jokes.

Are meteor strikes flammable?

I love how whenever Sokka's disappointed he gets noodle arms. A surprisingly consistent characterisation.

Momo butt skate.

Iroh. The fuck?

ok. So he's playing a part for the guards. Why?

Pretty.

Funny to think about, but as a former WWE character, Toph's probably had more hero worship than the Avatar.

Lots to say about this! First, I stand corrected! i honestly thought that Sokka would be immune to this specific insecurity by virtue of him not being a bender. I was wrong! Second, I love how, as soon as Sokka expresses that he feels that he isn't as talented as the rest of them, the others respond by listing his actual, invaluable talents, without which the group would be completely at sea. They don't respond with "no you're perfect!" they respond with "no one can read a map like you can" and how he keeps their spirits up with jokes. They're not using false praise. They are using specific facts. I love that an episode that looks like it's going to deal with a character feeling down on themselves establishes from the get go that the character is invaluable, actually. So often, the 'low self esteem stock episode' puts the affirmation of the character's value at the end. Which means the viewer spends the whole episode being convinced that the character in question might actually be useless. Here, we're told from the start that the character is invaluable - the problem is that they do not perceive themselves to be so. Quite on the nose for a show that deals so much with identity.

OMIGOD IT GETS BETTER!!!!!!!!!!

Validating Katara sweeps in and a) validates his feelings, while b) clearly explaining that his self-perception is not in line with how the others see him, which c) doesn't invalidate a) !!!!

Katara has such emotional intelligence when she chooses to use it.

So this episode has a training montage theme.

Sokka goes freestyle on those door knockers.

That's one hell of a castle. Must be dark in there though. Tiny windows.

Which explains the several hundred candles. This show. Set up with one hand; slam dunk with the other.

This guy's reciting Sokka's s1 introduction on Kyoshi Island.

The face of someone who is definitely picking up what you're putting down.

It's been ages since I watched the episode, but is some of what the Master saying here about swords an echo of what Zuko says to the kid in Zuko Alone when he's decapitating sunflowers?

A Sokka-less Gaang. Depressing and they know it.

The way Katara's voice actor says "oh everyone's a critic" is gold.

Multidisciplinary education vs. kid who's never been within a mile of the box he's being told to think outside of. Fight!

Yikes that was a meaty hit. Does Sokka have a nose left?

They're wearing beehives on their heads.

Was Sokka always this short?

The greens in this episode are such a delight.

The way he says "I'm finished!" Sounds like "Am finished" and you can actually hear the smiley emoji he throws in.

He's good.

What do they FEED him?

Sokka's voice actor had a great time this episode. All the voice actors had a great time actually.

Sokka invents the La Z Boy

Katara inadvertently invents a fandom war by attempting a joke.

They're all so useless and it's wonderful.

That was all only one day? That's a lot of outfit changes for one day.

"You mess things up in a very special way." Compliment? Let's go with compliment.

Sokka is so very Sokka this episode.

A reason to live is coming!

That's clever. The inciting incident gets smelted. Haven't seen that before.

This whole Iroh gets buff montage has been completely dialogue free on Iroh's part. Crazy levels of inner peace, that he'd doesn't need to snark back at the guard.

Seriously. What are they FEEDING these children. Also how is that door that shiny.

Sokka really has it in for those door knockers.

Apropos of nothing, the clouds in this episode are all so yummy. All these soft slate colours and misty layers.

I love how they managed to made a crafting montage where the character who does the least work is the one who looks like he's working the hardest.

"I saw a heart as strong as my garden decor"

"No it certainly wasn't your skills. You had none."

Creativity, versatility, intelligence, meat, sarcasm.

You've known him like two days and you can already tell he's more worthy than any man you've ever trained? Sounds like you had poor taste in students.

"No. This is my fight. Alone." Bro you are going to DIE. The first time you held a sword was two days ago. You might need the avatar on this one.

Guard who never shuts up actually kind of has a point here. He's a dick about as usual, but it's entirely possible that the rank and file of the Fire Nation army view Iroh's actions as a betrayal. Does anyone remember in Star Wars movie number 7, or maybe 8, when that Trooper sees Finn after he's switched sides and yells "traitor!" and it's the best part of the movie? Yeah, like that.

This episode throws the concept of linear time out the window. In two days, Iroh gets swole and Sokka masters sword fighting.

Do you think Sokka's realised yet that this is his final exam?

Yummy yummy clouds.

One in a million pocket sand shot.

One in a million stick placement.

So this master is like a sword spirit or something. He can't be human. There's no way he could get the scabbard to fly on perfectly without seeing.

"Try Lee, There's a million Lees. There's a tea shop in Ba Sing Se that has a super cranky waiter called Lee."

This guy's just this side of committing treason and I love it.

I see this Master is a devotee of the 'Hakoda school of shoving outrageously over the top compliments into Sokka's thick skull in the hopes that 1% of them will stick.' I approve.

This last scene has gorgeous hills and skies but you'll have to take my word for it because I've hit the image limit.

Sokka's been inducted into the super secret boy band!!!

He saved space earth for Toph! He's so considerate! He's fuelling the ships!

Let's compromise and call it space dirt instead.

Final Thoughts

This episode every two minutes: Sokka, you are currently flawless and you're about to get better. Me: Yes. Yep. Yeah. Seconded. I concur.

I like it! It's great! It's 24 minutes of the writers and characters fangirling over Sokka! Of course I like it! It made me criminally overuse exclamation marks! What else can I say?

Hands down my favourite episode is Bato of the Water Tribe. For Sokka's story, this episode is Bato of the Water Tribe part 2. Of course I'm going to love it. This episode was lab grown specifically for me.

Now let's see if I can say something about this episode that isn't poorly disguised squealing.

I love how the characters respond to Sokka saying he's not special with an evidence-based refutation rather than blanket reassurance.

I love how shopping cheers up Sokka. I love how Katara knows that shopping will cheer him up. This must be something she's learned since the show started. I don't think there were malls in the South Pole. So Katara was paying attention when Sokka and Momo went through the bag saga.

I love how much the master is baffled yet impressed by Sokka. He seems almost charmed by this breath of fresh air. I think it's hilarious that, when Sokka first approaches him, he's expecting early season 1 Sokka. He'd better send Suki a thank you card.

I also really like "The way of the sword doesn't belong to any one nation." It seems obvious to us, but in a world where there are weaponisable skills that are quite literally inseparable from the nations their wielders inhabit, it's probably something no one in the Gaang has ever heard before.

Obviously the episode is a little rushed - half hour kid's show and all that - but it's still pretty crazy that you can apparently impart a solid basic knowledge of swordplay in two days.

Toph going all tsundere is funny, and makes Aang and Katara unapologetically desperate for Sokka's company twice as funny as it already is. Toph's like "whatever" and the other two spent the day making a welcome home banner.

I love how Sokka's happiness is always so loud and shameless. It makes it contagious.

This episode highlights what Sokka's actual strengths are, by instructing him in what he thinks his strengths are. If that makes sense? Sokka is brain, which he's finally starting to realise by attending brawn lessons.

He's also heart, and I'll die on that hill.

Iroh getting swole was honestly just a thing that happened. No comment really, except it was interesting to have a reminder from the guard that a character we perceive as the good guy is currently perceived as the bad guy by everyone but us. When the Fire Nation does inevitably get defeated, a whole nation is going to have to reset their worldview and that will not be an easy process.

I've actually been meaning to share this with my Tumblr for the unaware!

This little Silver actually has some lore!

His name is "Silbor" and his creation was through drawme, a site let that's you share anonymous drawings!

Originally used to just mess with FerretFresh on Twitter

However when scrolling through my TL I kept coming across more and more people asking for anonymous drawings, and at some point decided I wanted to hit every single one, using the phrase

" Get Silbored "

(there's a ton more of these btw lmao)

I thought this was just a meaningless prank. I assumed it would give a quick laugh and then be forgotten about

But oh I was SO unprepared

That next morning I woke up to find that a public case was opened in a group effort to figure out who the "anonymous Silborer" was, with the first guess being me!

This made sense, I had left many hints, liking A LOT of the Silbor tweets, doodles in recent artwork, I knew I couldn't keep this up any longer.

So a couple hours later I made a public announcement confessing to being the one behind Silbor! People laughed, I had some fun discussions, and that's where the story should end.

here's where the amazing stuff happens.

First off, I didn't Silbor only my fellow mutuals, I did it to anyone I could find and more importantly, I Silbored some far larger creators that I freaking ADORED

so you can only begin to imagine my shock when I check and find that artists I have admired for a couple years at this point had actually begun to follow me

and it's really weird to say it now as I kinda considered myself friends with alot of them now.

Eventually, I see my follower count rise, and begin to tweet about it ofc, and to my surprise I got ALOT of support.

Soon I tweeted out that if I hit 1k, I'll change my pfp to Silbor...

And that is how a goofy throwaway meme had me thrown into the sonic community spotlight for a hot minute, made me connections with huge creators, and took me from 600 followers to 1k+ overnight.

And as promised I changed all my pfps to Silbor!

This goofy idea has actually grown into a full on AU, lovingly named the "Sobic AU"

and so far, the cast is made up of

Sobic, Shabow, Silbor, Bouges, Aby, Baze, Tikol, Knockles, Baos!

And yes, MANY shit-post have been created through this

(sorry for such a long answer, I just wanted an excuse to talk but this thing lmao)

yeees yes my sneaky scheme is working

so ive already said briefly that I think hes from a big family. mostly, I just thought it'd be fun to have a big cog-italian family of mobsters themed after the planets (and dwarf planet, in this case). cosmo is the newest build and kind of the runt of the litter

hes originally from Palomertá, on the isle of Cosicilia (yes its just cog sicily) and was built into money and privilege. his dads, solaris and luna, both pretty rich crime lords who wanted to solidify their partnership and expand their family, and also expand the family. kind of a win/win for them. they get kids AND the Astrolini-Cogleone family gets more powerful. its just a smart move in their legitimate business

ive not thought about his siblings at all yet but i imagine tensions in the family are frequent and theres lots of splinters and fallings out. when your entire fam is involved in organized crime its bound to happen. cosmo himself actually rejected his dads giving him start-up money because he wanted to be a self-made man. its NOT common for a cog to ever reject free money, but he considered it a point of pride. he didnt want to ride on his dads coattails, yknow? he wanted to forge his OWN family on his own work. which, to his credit, hes done. dude has what could arguably called a moral code even if it does involve illegal stuff 90% of the time

naturally this caused a bit of a sore spot since cosmo was seen as 'abandoning the family business' but they came around with time, and despite the occasional snide comment theyre on fine terms now. he goes home every now and then for big birthdays and occasions (he kind of hates it because it gets pretty hot back home but yknow. he tolerates.) and sol especially has a tendency to boast about his boy to anyone who will listen

i know ive said the word 'family' like 7 billion times in this response but it is truly one of the most important things to cosmo. its why hes so close with the satellite investors- they trusted him and he trusts them. theyre His Boys, yknow? the exact nature of their relationship is a little vague but he cares about them, genuinely. they aint throwaway mooks to him. he calls them lugheads and they test his patience daily and he wouldnt admit it, but he loves those dudes

UM this is getting pretty long and im fairly disjointedly rambling now but. most of my ideas are still kind of vague and floaty, i'll probably write up things in a more coherent 'backstory document' fashion at some point. to sign off, a random headcanon

cosmo can play piano. luna taught him, and he took to it pretty well. he rarely plays nowadays and considers himself pretty rusty but hes planning on installing a piano into the restaurant so he can tap away whenever the urge strikes

1 - 02/12/2023 : liked the idea of Heidi with a buzzcut, i think it really suits her, a radical change from her usual hairstyle, but a cool one... i love having futch OCs

2 - 04/12/2023 : chike chike chike.. frogot why i drew him think i was thinking of him doing cat things and it was gonna be a lot more than 2 drawings but i gived up x ,, but this is the most up 2 date drawing of his current design aside from like. the one colour wheel wip. so ur getting crumbs for him im sorry chike fans (1 person)

3-6 - 05/12/2023 : firstly, saw sum official art of Peach on twitter and wanted to redraw it, i loveee her eyes.. slay.. secondly, DIESEL REDESIGN YAY1!! it is now up to date. yippie. i decided he should be fat, very big brain of me.. i didnt Hate his old design but it was kinda giving kokichi danganronpa and like thats not him LOL.. but anyway i luv this drawing

thirdly, a Robin, was testing out the redesign a lil, think i was listening to his playlist again hence the comeback kid lyrics.. aaand fourthly (is that a word) another Diesel, a bit of a model series expression redraw, u kno the one where hes like >:D i enjoyed drawing his coat.. oo duende..

7 - 08/12/2023 : okay guys lets take a silly one now!!! erm anyway. was thinking about nina and the neurons, as you do, thought it would be funny to draw nina activating her neurons, like that 1 pic of the guy levitating pizza.... she served so hard with her claires accessories rave ball earrings and fluffy bobbles tho lets be real.. was very disappointed to learn shes not a real scientist

8 - 12/12/2023 : twas in the middle of finalising a design for my human Sonny, so heres some lil phone doodles where i was figuring out his hair and hat, i ended up going with the right hand side, thought it would be worth posting them

9 - 16/12/2023 : first sort of draft of his design being put to use, not my faaave drawing but it was nice to finally get him drawn, it was an absolute ballache trying to get his design perfect, the art block was Strong that week.. anyway, i did end up changing some things, just tweaks mostly, and i scrapped the hoodie, i wanted him to have a bigass varsity jacket collar to hide behind, so i opted for him wearing a plain t-shirt underneath instead, eventually

10 - 20/12/2023 : Buttercup and his scary ass big blue freak eyes, based on a tweet i saw, the OP went private eye fink but the og tweet said like "i don't have rizz, i have unsettlingly large blue eyes that are haunted by visions", and thats just Buttercup.. so heres him, having a jolly good stare

11 - 22/12/2023 : that chooshada drawing again, just recoloured with NER apple green livery :) i think she looks super cute with it, it's not entirely accurate in terms of lining coz i was referencing pics of her basis which are like 10p black and white taken on a potato kinda deal

12 - 28/12/2023 : silly little throwaway idea of a toni hair revamp, im not sure i would redesign it but, the idea is there... so who knows x

“Hello, it’s me, Kit!

This is my turtle, Fibonacci.

He was blinded in an incident when he was young, and I love this turtle so much. He is also a Spotted Turtle, so he has these cute yellow spots on him, and his shell is black with white spots.”

More details:

Fibonacci is the turtle that started this whole iteration. Kit was doodling him on her throwaway menu at a restaurant, so I (Casey) started asking questions, and one thing just led to another!

The “incident” Kit mentions is Shredder attacking Shen and Yoshi’s home, and ultimately causing the family to be separated. I’m planning to go more into detail on that in my next post regarding Concinnity (unless I post Mikey’s design first).

Fibonacci goes by ‘Nacci with his family, and is the second smallest of his brothers.

Not really? I should but usually if I'm drawing for myself I'll sorta just doodle until I get smtg I like and wanna finish. But if I'm doing comms I might do one or two little throwaway doodles before jumping in, but not always

Describe their phone case.

Ophelia: She's got one of those really heavy-duty phone cases that claims to be drop-proof, but it's all beat up, scuffed, chipped at the corners where she's dropped it. There might be some faded doodles on the back of it where she was bored and doodled on it with a metallic Sharpie, but they've mostly rubbed off at this point

Quinn: the cheapest black case she could find (she loses/has to abandon her phones pretty frequently), but covered in random doodles - mainly punk stuff, anarchy symbols and skulls, etc.

3. Do they use nicknames for their contacts or do they list contacts by full name?

Ophelia: Nine times out of ten, full names. She'll make exceptions sometimes (obviously her dad is listed as "Dad" and not "Otto", and each of the Peters has a different emoji by their name to differentiate them), but that's rare.

Quinn: Nicknames. Some of them are so strange and specific, it's almost like a secret code (which is just the way they like it)

9. What are their most frequently used emojis?

Ophelia: Mainly the more standard ones - at least one color of heart, the sobbing face, a couple variations on the laughing face, etc.

Quinn: The middle finger and "rock on" emojis, though I also feel like she'd have some sort of emoji code with Billy - like, the ghost emoji means "shut up until I text you again, turning my phone off" for use on missions, the zip-lips means "we'll talk about this later but not over text", things like that.

13. What do they use as an avatar or profile photo on social media sites?

Ophelia: For her personal social media, probably a fairly standard photo of herself (it's from her postgrad days, her in her lab in front of a few inventions). If she doesn't want her face shown, just a picture of an argonaut octopus to match her hero name.

Quinn: Doesn't use social media for safety reasons. If she has any social media at all, it's a lurker account with no personal details and a throwaway email address. There's way too many crimes that can be traced back to her for her to risk being doxxed.

17. What’s the last thing they searched in an incognito tab 👀 (doesn’t need to be NSFW!)

Ophelia: Well, I don't know if it counts but she's definitely hacked into government websites looking for information on their newest undisclosed tech. She wants to know what she's up against...

Quinn: Very much a toss-up. Usually it'll be something that genuinely warrants an incognito tab, like mission-planning things that could be tied back to her (bank hours, police routes, city maps, etc.)... but once she was caught using an incognito tab to hide the fact that she searched for the new Olivia Rodrigo album- they think she's a poser and don't enjoy her music in the slightest, but they have to admit they're a little curious about what all the hype is about.

if you create, you're an artist

we're starting to write our teaching philosophies in my art education class rn so excuse me while i go on a little bit of a ramble

I am a firm believer in the fact that anyone can be an artist. If you find joy and purpose in what you make, congrats! You're an artist. I don't care if it's a huge realism painting that could rival the Mona Lisa, a crochet blanket project you made as a gift, a lopsided bowl you made in ceramics, or even a throwaway doodle on a napkin at a restaurant. If you made it, and you found joy in it, it's art in my eyes and you're an artist.

I've had family members try and argue with me that art is some magical talent people are born with and they'd never be able to obtain the level of skill that I'm at. I say "not with that attitude." I believe that with the right tools and access to learning, anyone can learn to create. You can learn to draw, to paint, to knit, or crochet. You can learn ceramics and sculpting. You can learn. It takes a lot of practice and time to become a "master" at it, but that's how any skill works. I didn't pop out of the womb holding a paint brush and pallete and immediately be able to produce fully rendered semi-realistic paintings like I can now. Hell, I couldn't even do that a few years ago! It took most of my life messing around and practicing to get anywhere near as good as I am now. And guess what? I'm still learning and practicing. But we all start somewhere. It's the passion to create and the tools made available to us that allow us to thrive and grow as artists.

Sure, to some extent I know that some people are able to see color in different ways or have a better imagination. But if you don't, that doesn't mean you can't do art. Literally everyone sees the world differently. Some people are more go-with-the-flow thinkers, while some are more analytical. Some people jump right into an art project with no plan, others plan things out down to every single brush stroke. Maybe that means you don't do art as a career, but that doesn't mean you're not an artist. You can be both a lawyer and an artist, a doctor and an artist, a mathematician and an artist, a cashier and an artist. You can be anything and an artist.

Another thing about art is how many options there are. Painting, ceramics, print making, jewelry making, sculpture, photography, digital art, knitting. The list goes on and within those categories, there's more categories! For example, painting can be broken down into so many different types of paint: oil, acrylic, watercolor, gauche, and probably more. But my point is, if one medium doesn't work for you, there's a ton more options to pick from. That's the beauty of art. Let's say you're really struggling with painting realism. Proportions and colors just are lining up the way you want. You can't get the right angle and nothing looks right. Well, before you throw everything down in frustration and quit all art forever... might I suggest photography? Using a camera would allow you to still play with angles and color (or even black and white) while keeping those proportions just the way you want. You could explore different lens types or mess around with film. It's a whole new medium to explore. Or if you want to give painting another shot, there's a way to take photos and make an exact copy of said photo using grid lines on to a canvas to keep those same proportions. And color mixing can be thought of like a science in a way.

Anyways, do you see what I'm getting at?

There's many different ways to approach the teaching of art to make it accessible and fun. So even if you think you can't do it, a good teacher will help you find a way that makes sense.

Art is so versatile and there's literally no wrong answers or any wrong way to do it. It's all subjective. It's all open ended. It's meant to be fun and a way for people to express themselves, connect to others, and communicate without even speaking a word. There's an infinite amount of ways to play with mediums in art. You can start whenever and however you want. With enough time and practice you can make what you want. And if you're hesitant to start on the grounds of thinking you're not an artist I'm here to tell you that you're wrong.

Anyone can be an artist.

-THANK YOU im glad some of my more recent works (in my more current style) are appealing 2 people! like i wanna draw my own way even though i think it gets less notes... the higurashi fanarts (hanyuu and shion) r very memorable pieces to me because its when i started doing the loose sketches with the thin lines and block colors and thats the direction i reallyreally wanted to take my style in. also the rainbow is rian my friend rian

-i draw in paint tool sai! the only program i used before that was sketchbook pro, which i didnt like because the brushes were kind of... blurry/smudgy? sai allows you to zoom in and draw pixel by pixel which is something i like, and i like the way it does its blending. its also just easier for me to understand. i didnt pay for it i think i found some deviantart page that had the link, id have to find it again

-i draw with a wacom intuos tablet! its lasted me... almost 10 years now. ive heard newer ones are poorer quality in terms of at least the nibs needing to be replaced constantly, so idk what the most recommended tablet these days is. ive drawn with my mouse and tbh it caused awful hand pain so i would not recommend this. i draw on my phone with my finger sometimes but i find doing it on my laptop easier, however it is doable once you get used to it

-the way i got into digital art... well. i still have an archive of my earliest art if you wanna see! i was 14 n just drew random shit, often lining over doodles i did on paper and coloring them in. i think esp if youre overwhelmed start with making like throwaway experimental pieces, scribble around, doodle stupid things and color them in with different brushes and see what you enjoy. and then you can just keep the files to yourself if they dont look too good or maybe itll look interesting, it depends i guess haha. the other thing that ive always found helped me was telling myself id draw every day even if it was a little scribble or the tiniest amount of work on a wip bc getting a habit going helped my art a Lot beause it helped me spend more time thinking n focusing on it

more specific advice for sai that i found useful- using clipping groups & the preserve opacity functions are both lifesavers in terms of not spending so much time trying to color in the lines. if you color in a base layer you can just put everything above it as a clipping group and just not worry about it anymore. i also really like using the filters (like multiply) to mess around with the colors a drawing has, though sometimes its more effective to just select a layer/individual color and fuck with the hue/saturation/etc until it looks good. when i color, esp when its not turning out how i wanted to, i rely on shifting colors A LOT. n also mixing colors together using a blending brush and then colorpicking the intermediate color. very useful

-for the most part i stick to uncolored pencil doodles on like, notebook paper (even though i have some fancy supplies X[ one day) but i LOVE making things with clay, wish it was more accessible to do at home. i have a handful of clay animal statues and stuff that i made in my ceramics class in high school. would looove to do more

-because my poses tend to be very pushed/cartoony using references of real people isnt always useful (though obv knowing the basics of anatomy always helps) so in those cases ill use other cartoony art i like as inspiration, i try to see what i like about their poses nd emulate that with my own. sometimes when im struggling ill just do a bunch of studies where i copy art i like to try to get a feel for what im missing. mostly ive realized i like when the pose conveys some level of like, volume and taking up a 3D space (which im still definitely not a master of but bullshitting it can be fun). and i also like to have a balance of curved and angular shapes. sometimes i try to just do a pose that conveys a specific emotion or i just make shit up lol

alsooooo i cant reccomend aimless doodling enough! just random shapes, turning the random shapes into creatures, trying and trying and trying different ways to draw something until you like it, i feel like the things my hand makes when i shut my brain off and just scribble can inspire me as well, and i try to emulate whatever i made by chance while doodling. and if your doodles turn out better in traditional i tend to consider using a photo of a drawing as a way to skip the "preliminary sketch" phase nd drawing a rough sketch over that which i then use for my drawing (or just directly color since i draw very fast/lazy...)

6. Anything that might inspire you subconsciously (i.e. this horse wasn’t supposed to look like the Last Unicorn but I see it)

For visual art I honestly don't know, I tend to mostly be inspired by music, stories, and emotions, but that's really vague, I'm not sure. For my writing though, I'd say dreams are a big one, also songs, I tend to be inspired by lines in songs that then become things. I also definitely get subconsciously inspired by stories that I love and put elements of them into my work without realizing it. sometimes I feel like my writing is literally just a hodgepodge of tropes and pieces of plots and characters and themes from everything else I've read and watched, but 99% of the time it's totally accidental

9. What are your file name conventions

So for art, I usually just name stuff based on the character it's portraying and then something about the drawing theme (i.e. emma autumnal) but then sometimes there's nothing specific or i have like 19382938298 drawings of 'sexy iris' for instance, so i can't really use that so I end up with a whole list of file names that are just character name + doodle or sketch or random numbers or whatever.

for writing, it depends on if it's like a throwaway drabble or if it's like an actual polished piece but usually ends up being similar. or i just name stuff with things that make it impossible to find like "silence agenda outline" "silence agenda outline2" "tsa outline" "silence agenda notes" etc. and then i have to click through them all to find them. (scrivener makes this problem easier but doesn't get rid of it)

19. Favorite inanimate objects to draw (food, nature, etc.)

Ngl, i hate drawing anything that's not a person for the most part so i'm gonna say clothes and especially shoes! idk why but I really really love drawing shoes. (which is kinda cheating 'cause i know they're part of a character design but still TECHNICALLY inanimate)

I've been studying most of my day because I am anticipating a lot of memorizing this college semester. I am a naturally forgetful person, so last semester for my German class, I developed a memorization strategy that was pretty up to par. It involved me doodling pictures to help me memorize how it is spelled and what it means in English. I often broke down the words into parts that were similar to English words and drew them together in some sort of crossover, as well as referencing their translated meaning. For instance, siblings in German is "geschwister", and to memorize it, I broke it down to the English words "guest" and "wisteria". I drew the guest profile pic you see on social media sites on top of a shoddy-looking plant. It was a decent strategy, but it had some pitfalls.

First off, I rarely incorporated the gender (masculine, feminine, and neuter) and their plural forms, which was dumb on my part, and second, it took a long while to memorize them since there were a bunch of words. Remembering what I drew most of the time eventually became a hassle. Near the end of the semester, I developed a better method where they weren't just random sketches but rather told a short story similar to that of a storyboard. I used a character that was originally a one-off throwaway, I guess because I found him charming, who I named Unfug (mischief in German), and drew his “comedic” escapades in elementary school. They were kinda raunchy and poorly written, but it got the job done.

It was a better tactic, and I enjoyed making them, but it just had one problem: it took even longer than the previous strategy. That second one I think took an hour just to think of a story and brainstorm how to incorporate the German vocab with its translation. The drawing took a while too despite them being crappy three-minute atrocities.

Today I experimented with a new strategy for my science class. I made up a new character, Moe Inquiry, and wrote a plot synopsis involving him instead of drawing it. The thing I changed was that I wrote the story instead of drawing it. I implemented the terms I needed to memorize into the writing, and funnily enough it worked perfectly. The issue I ran into was that I still found it to be taking too long; coming up with a story while shoehorning in specific words drained any sort of fun I originally had.

I managed to come up with what I think is the definitive strategy. I studied ten German terms (I am taking a second-level German class), including their genders and plural forms. I brought back Unfug, but instead of drawing stories, I wrote them again. This time, however, I wanted to make the stories like something out of a comic strip: random situations that he got into in the span of 24 hours, with emphasis on character traits and humor in the writing.

I think I might have found the holy grail. I managed to remember all the jokes and situations while spending a short amount of time creating the scenarios. I even drew quick sketches correlating to the comic-strip synopses (even quicker than my previous quick sketches), where I focused on memorization over creating the perfect story or perfect drawing or whatever. I don't want to celebrate too early, but I think I finally found my perfect memorization strategy.

Hey Jealousy

Technically not a new drawing, but I'm not interested in more doodles, yet I want to finish this train of thought while I can remember it all.

The closest theme song I've found to Kimmy (above) is "Hey Jealousy" by Gin Blossoms. Nothing instrumental-only comes to mind for some reason, and the lyrics only sort of fit, but it does a good job of summing up about 75% of her character.

I forget if I've gone over it before any deeper than the one offhand note, but Kimmy was originally a throwaway character from when I once tried to take part in a group storytelling effort. I had composed a big introduction for Scatter, only for the VERY NEXT POST to be someone hijacking that buildup into, /Scatter goes up and waves "HIIIIIII!" and runs away

"idk"

COME ON.

So I changed it! It was NOT Scatter at all, but an interloper who happened to LOOK kinda like Scatter, if she were doing a bad cosplay of him! And then I wrote the REAL Scatter back into the story to do what I'd planned to do! (I didn't get that far, that I remember... so much for that)

...but KIMMY WAS HERE. And... I actually liked her...?? So I rewrote her to be that she did indeed see him and felt insanely jealous of what he could do (which even now is still just be "a weird little guy"). She tore the sleeves off her jacket and got a sort of similar hat and bangles and broke her ear and TA-DA, low-cost cosplay! (but not lowcostcosplay)

Anyway, that's her deal (lol Diehl), she inserted herself into where she wasn't, and has an odd fixation on Scatter NOT as a love interest but as a thing she wants to be.

That last part I never made clear (for a reason), but since I likely never will otherwise, thought I'd put it out there.

Who's your favorite superhero, and is there a certain writer or artist whose portrayal you particularly like?

I think the closest answer to this is probably Star Lord, I’m not the kinda guy to have one favourite anything but I can hyper focus on him and the guardians for weeks ! Love them to the point of creation ! I’ve been doodling a redesign for each and every one of them and I recently made all of the guardians as dnd characters which took a long time and I’ve got a Pinterest board with every major player in marvels cosmology in regard to space empires, as for portrayals I love, it’s easier to start by listing I don’t like the mcu version he’s a completely different character, but I do like that they gave us the mixtape to help him connect to his origin and explore his feelings with it, and the fact they made the guardians a family,

but to actually answer your question, I really like star lord in the first englehart comic, the Chris Claremont run as it introduces my favourite character in guardians of the galaxy stuff, Ship ! She’s a sentient star who can use her energy to transform into anything including a space ship she’s a fantastic compassionate and sarcastic character ! And Claremont spends time developing star lord from a rage driven vengeance obsessed bad guy pretty much into a kind adventurous philosophical person who finally into his 30’s starter to learn how to be a normal person to have fun and joke, Next author I’d heavily recommend because I think they’re the pinnacle of marvel cosmic, DnA aka dan abnett and Andy lanning they pull every thread they could find every scrap of throwaway worldbuilding for the cosmic setting and intertwined it to make something unforgettable and they develop peters character more by putting him through trials that shatter his growth and have him use it as a mask to do whatever he can for the good of everyone regardless of what they think of him, after this run the character dies, and he isn’t picked up again until the mcu happens and though some of the stories are fun, he doesn’t feel like himself as a character again until Al Ewing comes in and peter becomes just as much of a clever and cunning bastard as he used to be, plus he finally explores his backstory that englehart set up in those early comics ! That was probably more longwinded than you wanted but I got passionate in there somewhere 😂
