I know I already asked about the comic stuff before. I am afraid to slide into the dms to ask about all the questions that come up before sooo. ;^; (I feel like I be spammy with “HEY GUESS WHAT I DID”))

I am struggling with spacing out my panels in a comic I am making. I am following all the rules of thumb nailing and doing rough ideas with it. Yet I am not sure those really work or not.

Do you perhaps have some creators you use to reference the style??

How complicated the process goes and how manny versions of a single panel do you end up with?

As inspo i had a looot of different comics but mostly american stuff around undertale fandom (my favorite is Insomnia by fluffandpain) and Batman: White Knight witch gave me a lot of reference on drawing men :)))) and also composition and panneling though I don't use that much panels per page as there. Also in White Knight spinnof eith Harley was amazing painting/pising/emoting style that i adore.

Sometimes i go straight agead and sometimes i can change whole page three/four times when i feel like it (usually when i had big time skip from making first draft. I don't think its very good think to redraw your panels too much, it slows down the process veeery much and can be damaging for your momentum but yeah, i fall for this trope sometimes, trying to make things as dynamic/cool/interesting as i possibly can :,)

I will check it out surely when I'll have a bit more time!^^

Here's a writeup about the process of making this 12x18" poster that's in the booksamillion special edition of TAZ: the Eleventh Hour GN! It looks like there are still some available for preorder!

Long post about how I got from the initial options I sent to my editor to the final below the cut (or unlocked on my patreon here).

We found out pretty late in the life cycle of making the actual book artwork that we were going to get to do a special edition that included a poster, which was nice because it meant I had a good sense of what cool moments in the book we might want to highlight... and what existing art I might be able to use as scaffolding, because these books are on extremely tight deadlines and there was not a separate timeline for painting a whole poster. So when we can avoid doing that, it saves me a lot of time and heart/wristache... but it's not always possible! spoilers: it was not possible this time around.

I started out by sending my editor two options for poster designs: one that would save some work by letting me reuse cover & interior elements that happened to be drawn at a large size, and one that was loosely based on a page with a fun splash panel, but would require total redraw and repaint. As I said in an email,

...Unfortunately, we both agreed that the one that was going to be more work (A) was the cooler choice & would make for a better poster. Also, by this point I was thinking about doing a version of the cover for a lenticular, and I didn't want to double-dip with fun promo materials. So it goes!

The composition was off, since this was based on a comics page with, y'know, dialog and other panels on it. We talked about whether adding some kind of a text treatment might help balance it out, but ultimately,

ANYWAY, once I was all-in, it was time to get goin! First, I made a small color thumbnail, then scaled it WAY up for print and took it back to pencils to space out the trio & give everyone a little more room.

Next I inked and flatted it! Flatting is the only time I can really zone out & watch something while I work, it was a nice break.

Then I blocked in big hue shifts for the ground and sky; painted big shadow shapes, and drew in the text; and finally added some details like bounce light and atmospheric perspective blue shifts.

One final touch-up pass with some additional cool tones-- If I were to do this again, I might tone it down a LITTLE bit on the reflections on Magnus's gear… but then again, it looks cool, so I might not.

And there it is! 

Next time I do this, I want to try to keep the initial color thumbnail much looser- I got frustrated at the rendering stage because I'd done most of the fun work of thinking about color already, and ended up feeling like I was treading the same ground twice. It's tough to find a balance between enough planning to be ready and not so much that I lose something in the work!

LAST TIME ON POWER RANGERS: Ranger Slayer got herself captured by Dark Specter's forces while saving Drakkon's ass. BUT Drakkon makes up for it by saving HER ass from Dark Specter's corruption. BUT, he died in the process. So that means Slayer now has to save everyone's ass. Again. Seriously, this is like the third event where Slayer has to save everyone.

it's Power Rangers Unlimited: The Morphin Masters!

= so Drakkon and Slayer training together is canon, okay cool, book over, I got what I need

= But moving on from that these panels specifically make me crazyyyyy because what do you mean Tommy and Kim together means "happy ending"? What do you mean referring to Kim as Tommy's guardian angel? What do you MEAN redrawing Drakkon's death scene as more intimate than it was in 116????????

= MY STUPID EX-HUSBAND DIED ON ME SO I HAVE TO GO ON THIS STUPID QUEST

= So something cool about these energy beasts - they're all tied to ranger powers! A yellow bear, a red lion and ape, a gold praying mantis, a white rhino, and an orange scorpion. Sure, the latter wasn't TECHNICALLY a ranger power, just a zord, but there's a point to the "the PR universe did have Kyurangers at some point" theorists

= I just like this panel because it's silly. she's got the zoomies

= Slayer continuing to win the idgaf war against literal deities

= and then they founded an animation studio that gave us the Minions. so unfortunately they gotta go

= but in seriousness, I guess this is how we're going to rationalize how the MMs were portrayed in Beyond the Grid versus how they were portrayed in Power Rangers Universe - the BtG guys were a couple specific higher-power ones. It's fine, I guess. I'm still not a fan of the idea of an entire civilization just calling themselves Morphin Masters, though. Just make.....THESE GUYS the Morphin Masters. Why are they ALL the Morphin Masters??????? Now we have to establish a SUB-SECTION of the Morphin Masters!!!!!!!!!

= Slayer holding Drakkon and his death in high regard like this.......god. god.

= oh hi Blue really cool to see you again hope you don't die in the next few pages

= oh well never mind. Guess we're never going to find out why they came back to life, which was their reason for going into the Grid in the first place, huh

= I do like how we're going back to referring to Blue with they/them pronouns. I guess in hindsight we really were just misgendering them for years. awesome

= I'm glad we're fully acknowledging all the shit Slayer has gone through but I will admit my immediate reaction to the "it was fire" line was "she would not fucking say that". Maybe as a teen, sure. But NOW?

= oh hey guys, how have you been since you got retconned into existence and therefore have accomplished nothing in the main series

= I know this is supposed to be a whole thing of "ohhhh these guys think they're free but they're still being controlled yada yada" but at the same time as someone who hated the Emissary retcon and wishes that we could have gotten more from the characters as they were before........them being angry over losing what they had is very very good and I wish it wasn't done through "evil corruption magic." It was good with corrupted Slayer because they dedicated an entire issue to it and FREED HER at the end, allowing more time and space for development; here it's just a quick fight scene and in the case of Blue, followed up with death. And slight spoilers here, even if they don't die here, the way the Emissaries have been dropping like flies doesn't give me much hope for their survival if they show up in the main series

= I wonder if this is a reference to how in an early draft for the Ranger Slayer one-shot, the Bow of Darkness was going to be broken in half by Zombie Rita and Slayer would have used it as dual swords. Either way it's fucking cool

= also while the inclusion of Dino Thunder as one of Pink's forms is a simple mistake, it takes me back to those old DT AU fics where Kim became DT Pink. They're canon now guys, no takebacks!

= So turns out the "Illumination" are just a bunch of senile grandpas. Yeah, that's.............the big revelation for where the Morphin Masters have been. ok

= Now let me just say for this story, the Morphin Masters being useless is a fine decision, for the same reason why the Morphin Masters were useless in Dino/Cosmic Fury - you can't have these overpowered god figures show up and fix everything with a wave of their hand. This applies to every story ever - the god-like figure is captured, or dead, or simply doesn't care enough to interfere. It's a very basic and logical choice for a narrative in order for our actual grounded protagonists to be the heroes.

HOWEVER. It's another instance of Boom hyping up these kinds of storylines as groundbreaking revelations of PR's mythos for years just for the actual reveal to be kind of a letdown. Phantom Ranger's identity. Dark Specter being a major villain. The Squadron Rangers. And now the Morphin Masters' current status. All hyped-up concepts that either get rushed or end up secondary to other concepts, and in the end, don't feel like they matter. It's getting to be a bit tiresome, and I'm saying that as someone who doesn't hold PR lore high on her list of reasons I enjoy the franchise in the first place. And it doesn't help here that, as I've said before, it just feels more like a way to stretch out this event to fill its year-long timeframe. By the end of this book, nothing was accomplished except two more Emissaries are dead (not that they did anything before this) and I guess Green and Black will eventually join the fight, so what was the point of it all. Slayer never really believed the Morphin Masters would help them anyway, so it's not like she changed by the end either - Pink was the only one who really developed as a character, and, well......

= Pink quick eat an imaginary Snickers you're not you when you're hungry

= this is the third person Slayer has killed in two books. she's so good at her job

= also you may have noticed that we've killed two Emissaries and they're not turning to stone nor having a giant spider boi burst out of their bodies. It's soooooooooooo cool how that entire story arc meant nothing in the long run

= ugh yes queen swear off religion just like that

= also at this point Drakkon has wielded the power of a Morphin Master and Slayer was offered the position of one. What I'm getting at here is Tomberly are indeed divine figures

So, the black haired girl is her oc Gizmo. That's a temporary name until she decides an official one for her, but TBF, I think Gizmo IS her official name at this point LMAO

I mean, if she wants any suggestions for names, I don't mind giving her any if she's cool with it!

I absolutely love her, she's such a darling! & y'know what? I'm gonna slip her into some of my own KNY adventures with my own ocs cuz I just love her that much, especially with Zakiko

These two are so black cat & golden retriever, they make me so happy (She even requested this, too!)

Hi, honey! I am so sorry this took longer than it should've, I just really hate drawing traditional sometimes. Gizmo was so much fun to draw & if some coloring looks a little off or weird is because 1, I don't have the EXACT colors for her in markers. & 2, I mostly used water based markers for her. I think the only non water based marker I didn't use was for her skin tone XDD

Just a quick side note, Zakiko blushes at literally everything, so it isn't a ship blush on her for the last two. Sure, she likes girls (Lesbo moon hashira -w-) but she's more of a mother figure to Gizmo in my eyes. So, no shipping! Besides, most of my KNY ocs are either straight, uninterested, or already spoken for, so it's all good

I also have a headcanon that Gizmo is smaller than Zakiko's 5'10 ass by a few inches & I couldn't resist XDD

Anyways, I hope you enjoy the gift! You should really get a Tumblr one of these days so I can @ you instead of sending all this to you through tik tok. Curious about Dick's Deathstroke costume. What do you imagine? Is there a canon Deathstroke costume it looks similar to? What does Dick's mask look like? Is it a mask or a helmet?

HHHHHH the thoughts I've had on this man.

So like. Deathstroke costumes are so cool, there's so many different kinds, and choosing just one style is impossible. So. In-universe Slade always kinda had the same style and didn't change much and when Dick takes it on its the exact same armour just fitted for him. Out of universe? I like the deastbroke armour with the white arm piece and the black-orange on the chest not just the mask. I've made a few sketches.

But I'm not very good and also I think there'd be some armour, I'm just shit at armour. These are also comic panel redraws so I wasn't confident to add a lot of armouring on top without references and things. I'm gonna do more sketches when I get time so I'll probably add them. But ye he definitely has the two-toned chest and some gauntlets, big chonky boots and compartments for bullets and other gear, and a sword.

I still haven't decided if it's a fabric mask or a helmet style thing. I think fabric cause then it can be pulled back without being fully taken off which is uhhhh important for reasons. There's probably a vocoder voice changer thing that makes his voice a bit less clearly his own and difficult to be recognised by software.

I think realistically the chest is armoured and the pants are baggier more like cargo pants than the tight look Nightwing goes for. Probably some knee pads and shin guards over the pants, with knives in them. Knives everywhere really.

In Young Justice the Deathstroke armour is...

Meh. The season three design is marginally better than two, but they're still pretty average as far as DS designs go. So I prefer these designs more:

So like. Armour, but not a lot, cause he really doesn't need it with the healing factor, but it is useful to hide things.

I just had to paint this manga panel because like seriously, it’s so cool! This was an amazing study to see how Kishimoto captures emotions in his style. I really had fun with the expression. Expect to see some more manga panel redraws soon!

fight / flight part 1 thumbnails and page sketches

As promised, here are the thumbnails and all of the sketched pages for part 1 of fight / flight. Minor spoilers for the progression.

The thumbnails above show 7 pages plus 2. Thumbnail "8" is me freaking myself out in anticipation of part 2 and thumbnail "9" is a redraw of 6. While actually sketching the pages out I made a bunch of tweaks to the dialogue, and two major tweaks to the paneling.

Page 4 where Otake is asking Hokushin about the Mirror of Darkness’ conditions originally had Hokushin’s response "And if I tell you, you’ll spare my life or something like that?" at the bottom of the page. When sketching it out, it felt too squeezed, but I was able to shift it to the top of the next page easily.

The last two pages got split up at the last minute into three pages. This was for more visual drama/impact - to be able to give appropriate emphasis to Otake’s lines: the formal introduction of his identity to his opponent, and his emphasis of Hokushin as his opponent along with identifying Hokushin as a demon. Most importantly it's also nice to give Hokushin his own page for looking cool!! This resulted in the final version increasing to 8 pages.

In addition to the general challenges I have with action sequences, the rabbit hole I fell in this time around was the horse.

I very nearly got derailed at the beginning of drawing with “how to brush a horse in the Kamakura period??”, for some reason getting really obsessed with depicting a brush accurately and being convinced I can't just look at a modern day brush or brushes for humans.

After I had ploughed through a reread of some period manga to no avail and found myself learning about Tang Dynasty legal protection for horses, I decided it was time to throw in the towel and just move that part slightly off panel/allow my sketchy art style to hide any obvious problems. I also started looking up horse tack and should you be letting your horse eat when it has a bridle in its mouth etc. etc. then decided it wasn't important enough and anyways the horse is getting a break here so no tack.

Horse was also serving little to no function other than being a prop horse for Hokushin to be doing something that Otake could interrupt, and I needed to get it out of the way of the fight. After I started inking I found a good place on page two to quietly move prop horse off the screen and the rest of the comic. You can see it nervously scooting off behind Hokushin when Otake is talking to him.

No animals were harmed in the making of this comic.

fun fact: i used the same seven colored pencils for both the thes eye and the tommy one, i just made the grayer shades more emphasized for the latter. thought that was a neat little detail.

not a wip because i absolutely would never give this abomination its own post, but this is basically what my scratch paper sheet looks like when i want to test out how different colors look with each other, and also get a really, Really rough idea of what the final product will look like. this is the process i go through Every time i draw something serious. 😭

also shoutout to @alexanderwesker for giving me an idea of what the rune on q's eye looks like, because i like being as accurate as i can when i draw stuff, so that was very much appreciated!

the part 2 to the hero's journey comic

i went fucking Ham during the hero's journey assignment, so much so that i literally planned like 19 more panels than what you saw in the original post (27 panels planned in total). but then i realized that i had like Four Whole Days to do that assignment, and would definitely not be able to do that many, especially not without burning out.

so i instead settled for the very first 8 panels that i planned (though even then, i had to abridge a lot of it, and also cut slime entirely from it, bc otherwise those 8 would have been 14 whole panels, and i think i would actually die-), since that was just enough to show two different steps of the hero's journey (crossing the threshold and meeting the mentor btw. i could probably do a whole analysis on how wesker's stories fit into the hero's journey if i wanted to, but i'm lazy rn and this post is already pretty long), and that was the big grading requirement. (i got 100% on that assignment btw 💪and my english teacher still has no clue that he graded minecraft fanfiction fanart LMAO) but this one is what i would have included if i had more time on the project, and could include more of the story, but as it stands, i made this one in my own leisure, because comics are fun to do.

anyways, with that little rant aside, i tried my best to make q look younger than quackity, and really accentuate the difference between them. idk how i feel about how q turned out though.

i'm really proud of the paneling, and i'm also kinda proud of the first frame with quackity's face in particular bc i thought it looked cool, like an actual comic book or something. but i couldn't figure out the card physics or perspective and that's what ultimately made me choose to abandon it 💔 maybe i'll try attempting this page again when i'm feeling more daring (as well as the other panels that i still haven't even drawn yet), but this wip has been collecting dust for a couple of months now so i figured i'd share it here anyway.

it's not Too awfully noticeable though, especially bc the fold isn't On the drawing itself, so i might be able to salvage him and post a finished version someday... but i kinda halted progress on him for the time being bc of it, so here he is. </3

i 1000% want to redraw this someday, just because i think the idea behind it is so fucking neat.

honestly, this one wasn't too bad at all, especially since i did all of it (besides the bones bc i think my health professions teacher would be disappointed if i got them wrong, and also the rune bc i care way too much about accuracy) without any reference, which is a pretty impressive feat for me and my aphantasia. but yeahh i think it could definitely be better, and really, this drawing was ultimately something that i just drew in class to keep myself busy for a bit bc i had way too much freetime that day. it wasn't intended to be post-worthy or anything.

but i think that the idea behind it is definitely post-worthy. maybe i'll even add a thes and/or youngerbur addition once i get more information about them and just how they've changed yk.

i had no clue how to draw the bones in that position, i probably could've done more research but. yeah no i don't have an excuse, i just couldn't be bothered that day lmao.

i was also gonna bloody q's hands a bit if i ever got to the coloring stage. like a little nod to when he lost himself to Madness. is the blood actually there? who knows, we're seeing it from his eyes, so for all we know, the rune isn't even lit up either, and he's just remembering it being so. remembering the moment he acted so unlike how he used to be.

the bones are definitely there for charlie though, poor guy...

also can y'all tell that i drew the rune in like. 5 seconds. bc yeah.

We have several deals from his conversation and they're pretty big and they're pretty good one is 2000 concrete shells or exterias for houses they're really the house shell we come in and we put up the walls and the roof structure and the roofing and they'll come in and do the windows and the stucco and the interior and the landscaping and fixtures inside but we'll do the slab and the stub UPS and everything is guaranteed and warrantied and contracted and fit the wrong place to come back and we fix it using approved methods but we never do so and you guys would provide a dirt pad Plus a mess they say a quarter 1/8 is impossible, now you got business a lot of calls you guys just to the show in a slab and the stub ups and stuff outs and this stuff I'm out here only a couple feet is the stuff them out and stuff them up and stuff them up inside where they go and they said it's terrific and how much is the package and we can talk about it it's inexpensive by comparison and the time frame is practically nothing and we make the walls thinner we have different plan cuz we have to redraw which doesn't take much time and we can redraw them for you and it's just that it's less expensive it's just as strong and if you had an accident like a earthquake which never happens here the panels wouldn't kill everybody is it too heavy and I was a very dense you the same thing and we use a higher grade stucco and it works like the ceramics if you think you need it so they want to do that so he'll sit down and talk to them and we have two three people and you have 3,000 or so houses each one is $4,000 and when it's 5,000 here and I'll be known as a concrete guy like grandpa. Actually sold his shares one time ago but he was a concrete guy, young several of the big companies up north and they're well known companies and he was forced out yeh by Trump. So we're going to do it and he even said so to Alicia and talk to her on the phone he said they're thinking of doing those big projects that we wanted and you said I can't get those done so they're getting mad at me since I get JV so he heard JV from her he goes what's a JV and she goes joint venture it's like a joint venture we use them as a sub and they be under us and it's still kind of get the credit and we get paid first then pay them so it goes naturally and it was a good idea and it is cuz he can try and man up and get it that way talk about changing the panels and I just want to do it cuz his are known as very sturdy and bulletproof and we gave her the test data and he's reading it sort of he's she's dictating it he says the same thing that secure I can lift it if it fell on us he's serious things now he gives asking right away boom boom boom can't talk to anybody who's doing that and Trump does that but Trump's the one laying into him and bothering him he kind of knows about it they're trying to fix it and it's kind of just simple or stuff but he got it it's like you can't lift the panel off here if it weighs in a million pounds so he's trying to figure out what to do and he got this idea from her that he's going to go ahead and read it in prison and then he hands it back to the prison guard and mail it back so they're going to do that

I'm going to go ahead and publish this phone is starting to heat up a little bit has to be charged all the way and that's a rest and this is a great idea in order to making some business and we might try the boat shop and all the other shops too and we're going to try a boat show at the hotel and then we're going to try the boat show at the park so hotel probably do it cuz you pay rent and it brings in a lot of business they do it for a weekend and he says probably Friday night to Saturday to Sunday morning to Sunday afternoon they agree with that too they don't like it here's the past Sunday at like 1:00 so it's not hard to pull it out or to put it in and they like it out Friday night they tell you that like 5:00 p.m. and everybody starts showing up and drinking and getting rooms and looking at the boats and and will offer a rise they weren't doing that it was disappointing to our son they even have a peer it's kind of designed to do that and we have boats like the catamaran or whatever they call them pontoon things and the open bow and we've been doing those and other balls too if they really want to they'll have some in the water you can only bring in a certain size boat to that location but he says you can probably anchor a big one off and we can we'll have a couple big ones we're going to do this it sounds like fun

Mochizuki Jun The Case Study of Vanitas Anime da Vinci Interview - pt. 2 -

An interview conducted by Anime da Vinci with mangaka Mochizuki Jun regarding The Case Study of Vanitas. Part one of my translation is here. I said it was going to be two parts there, but I’ll be releasing it in 3, sorry.

In summary: A more in depth description of how Vanitas and Noé were developed, how Mochizuki wants to represent their relationship, Mochizuki’s feelings on “evil,” and how she wants to incorporate death.

Includes translation notes.

Initially, Vanitas was the vampire, and Noé was the human.

- The way Vanitas and Noé are depicted within the story is quite charming. How did those two come to be as they are? With that, how would Mochizuki Jun-sensei go about introducing “this person is Vanitas,” and “this person is Noé (a vampire)”?

Mochizuki Jun: Initially, Vanitas was the vampire, and Noé was the human. Drawing from Sherlock Holmes, Vanitas took the role of Holmes and Noé of Watson. But, no matter what I did with that concept, my boss would look at it and go “I mean, looking at this, the feeling I get is just... well, isn’t this kind of ordinary? In my opinion, it’s just... not interesting,” when providing consultation. Then, I got the advice of “hey, what if the vampire and the human roles were switched?!”  I was like “huh? A human Holmes and a vampire Watson? Wait, that’s- really extremely super cool!!” And it felt like I was suddenly looking at a completely different landscape. Vanitas’ prominent canine teeth are vestiges from those drafts.

MJ: A different friend of mine criticized my design for Vanitas, which is how he ended up developing those two-level side bangs. Noé’s design completely changed from the first drafts to serialization. Originally he had glasses and was more of the straight man of the comedy duo. I was forced to part with those and other ideas.

MJ: If I were to introduce them with a single phrase, it would be like:

Vanitas - A self loathing deviant.[1]

Noé - Body of a man, spirit of a maiden!

- Speaking of those two, even though they’re always butting heads, they still choose to be alongside one another, and end up fighting together to cover each other’s backs. That relationship is so endearing. In what manner does Mochizuki-sensei mean to depict the two of them?

MJ: They’re not friends, and their goals don’t exactly align[2]. Sort of contrarily, they always fight like dogs but still feel a mutual draw to one another. There’s not enough room to cover it all here, you know what I mean? Noé’s naivety frustrates Vanitas, but his foolish earnestness makes Vanitas harbor a desire to be close to him. Noé sees the light of Vanitas’ power which can do things far beyond Noé’s ability, and feels an attraction to the darkness that lurks in Vanitas’ shadow.

- The characters of Vanitas, especially in the case of when a depressed disposition shines through a carefree countenance, always have such impactful expressions. Please tell us if you have any points of fixation when it comes to drawing expressions.

MJ: I don’t have any specific points of fixation when it comes to expressions, but I usually end up redrawing the expression several times when I make a new panel. Whenever I draw a character’s face I end up making the same expression on my own face, so I leave a really bad impression when I draw in front of other people...

MJ: Aside from that, when I read manga by other people I’ll often go “oh, that’s a really good expression!” In those cases, I’ll try to analyze what about the drawing communicates the right emotion, follow that as closely as possible, and keep it in mind when I increase the stock of my own drawn expressions. I wanna get good at drawing...

Try to contain meaningless death within The Case Study of Vanitas.

- Though there are even humans who regard vampires as enemies, neither seems to be “good,” nor does either seem to be “evil.” Please tell us about the feelings you held when you decided to depict neither side as an axis of good or evil.

MJ: Simply rewarding good and punishing evil is bad storytelling. Those easy to swallow “I’m looking for world domination!” type characters always make me ask “Why’s this character want world domination?” “How do they intend to achieve it? For what purpose?” “What about their history led them to that conclusion?” “In the first place, when talking about evil, how was it that what we’re calling evil was decided to be evil?” It’s a really obnoxious way to get my head spinning with ideas as I try to look for an answer I can accept. Before I know it, that “easy to understand enemy” doesn’t really exist to me, no matter where I look.

MJ: Since I wholeheartedly reject “evil,” I think authors who create antagonists whose feelings you can see and relate to are extremely admirable.

- That monologue which began in the first chapter’s finale seemed to contain all sorts of foreshadowing. Has Mochizuki-sensei already envisioned the plot all the way up to the final chapter?

MJ: I haven’t firmly decided all the way to the end yet since I’m the type to not know what she wants to draw, but I’ve pretty much got the rough outline until the story’s conclusion. On my way to that final station called “the story’s end,” there are some stations at which I’m absolutely, inevitably going to have to stop. Still, I feel like it’s up to me as to which route I take on my way there.

MJ: For he who may have stuck with me since my previous works, I’m trying my hardest to work my way up and make the railway line of this current story feel more like a roller coaster.[3] Since in my previous work, Pandora Hearts, I wanted to make a bunch of distinctive events on their way to the last scene, which was supposed to be the highlight of that character’s arc. Because of that, most deaths in Pandora Hearts were made to be cathartic. In The Case Study of Vanitas, I think I want to try to include completely meaningless death.

[1] The word Mochizuki uses is 自分嫌い天の邪鬼. 自分嫌い is pretty directly just “self hating,” but 天の邪鬼 literally means “demon from heaven.” In speech, it’s used to mean “pervert” or “contrarian.” The manga translates 天邪鬼 (the same word spelled differently) as “bad tempered,” which I don’t like.

[2] Since I saw another translation for this part: Mochizuki specifically says 仲間とも違う, nakama to mo chigau, which means more literally “[their relationship] is also a different thing than a comrade.” 仲間 is sort of an infamous word among Japanese translation circles. It frequently implies “friend,” but is closer to “person with whom one finds commonality [in faction, ideas, goals, etc.]” Another translation might be “kindred spirit.”

any trivia about untitled you would like to get out there

Here’s all the stuff that immediately comes to mind:

- Red and Blue use he/him pronouns just like me

- they’re kissing in that last panel

- by stick figure beauty standards, Red has a massive ass in the last panel. I was treading a fine line between invisible and comically large, either of which would have ruined my artistic vision

- the Creator is an optimal tumblr sexyman because he’s me and I’m a white twink and we all know how tumblr rolls

- the title of the comic is Untitled because I’m pretentious like that. Also because originally it was never meant to have a plot so I saw no reason to come up with a title

- they’re in stasis, or perhaps a time loop, only existing while being read and incapable of changing their course

- there will almost certainly be no sequel, as any further strips break the aforementioned stasis/timeloop, plus I can’t come up with a better plot. That doesn’t mean there won’t be a sequel but it’s VERY unlikely

- while I love the fanart y’all make and am fine with you going off of canon, quite literally none of it (that doesn’t quote the canon directly) is canon-compliant seeing as the characters’ existences are restricted entirely to the original strips and do not exist between or outside of those strips (see time loop/stasis)

- despite that, canon is to be taken or left as you will and don’t let my interpretation get in the way of yours. We’re all at least a little right. Also I really love fanart.

- i’m a slightly better artist than just squares and stick figures (tho not by much), but (a) i’m lazy and (b) the plot/Creator’s arc revolves around how bad the art is, which is why any offers to “redraw” the strips will be rejected instantly and forcefully

- I read almost every single reblog, comment, or tag that gets left on the comic. I see your sins

- that multiverse thing in that one panel has no bearing on the story and was just a cool visual i came up with before i had the whole plot nailed down.

- the plot could have gone even darker maybe but it felt icky being quite that much of a bastard. A lil villainy I’m capable of, but I’m too attached to my psudoreal colored squares to abuse them too much

- I’m vaguely contemplating doing a print run but y’all are broke which doesn’t lend itself to buying silly lil comic books by local internet funnymen

- it fills me with rage when people compare it to Homestuck or Supernatural I have no experience with either and my opinions on them are forged from weapons-grade idontgiveashitium

- I’m very proud of it and very happy it’s my biggest post

- I considered putting some Read More buttons in there but then I realized I could piss people off by making a Do You Like the Color of the Sky and I AM the villain of this story after all.

- I have no shame or decency and encourage anyone who read and enjoyed Untitled to read more of my writing in the form of my original story The Thief and the Gun (there’s a link in my pinned post right near the Untitled link). It isn’t a comic but it’s a fantasy Western with demons and magic and capitalists getting shot. People say it’s good but obviously it gets less than 1% of the attention Untitled gets because it isn’t an easy-to-absorb comic

I'm back at posting art this time with a comission for @redladydeath

She comissioned me to redraw the costume designs for her Seven AU in a more Six stage costume style. Also bonus undetailed back views because costumes are a 360° thing.

Full explanation under the cut because it wouldn't be me if I didn't overexplain things

So. This was not a redesign, it was basically a mix of adding details, making things practical from a construction perspective, considering how the materials physically work and throwing studs at every seam available.

The thing with the Six costumes is that they are a mix of historical elements and the style created for the show. In this case it was a mix of the designs, four different historical periods and the Six style. It was fun.

Disclaimer: my knowledge of fashion history previous to the mid 18th century is superficial at best, so I couldn't go as deep as I would have liked with the historical inspiration (except with victoria, I do know that century)

Matilda: This one was mostly detailing. I added mesh on the top and shorts and changed the body of the jacket to holo vinyl instead of fur to avoid it looking less shiny than the rest. The one "historical" element I added is the lacing on the sides because on that century many kirtles (gowns) were laced on the sides.

Jane Grey: This was a tricky one. Took me a while to find the balance between a clean design and too little detail I was like two seconds away from giving it cutouts on alternating panels howard style, but it doesn't look right with the skirt. I gave her a fully structured pleated skirt (that would probably be a nightmare to make).

Mary Tudor: This is where I started deviating from the six costumes. The design had both fire motifs and original aragon costume sequins. I was looking for a way to mix this two as the vinyl wouldnt cooperate with small curves. And then I found this really cool sequin mesh with flame shapes and I knew it was meant to be. I also swapped the hanging charms for ones that are in the middle of the chain to avoid pulling it down.

Elizabeth: To say I went crazy with this one is an understatement. (I mean it literally has two parts) First I made the decision to change all the studs for pearls to keep the theme from the design, then I put pearls in every avaliable surface. The top skirt is made like the Boleyn skirts but with double the panels and a clear bottom. The design said embroidery texture for the skirt and my options were yet another fancy sequin fabric or pearl latice. I chose the latice. There is a legend saying the three pearls from Anne Boleyn's iconic B necklace ended in one of the british crowns so I changed the single pearl in her headpiece for three hanging pearls. The underlayer was the only thing here I fully designed. The inspiration was a crazy lady gaga dress that was just begging to be combined with one of my favorite historical illustrations (google ballet farthingale you won't regret it). The skirt would be folded under the skirt and just burst into life during the change. This is where I used the fancy sequin fabric combined with pearls on chains and in can't get any more extra.

Mary Stuart: This one got almost no changes from me it was mostlydrawing it with the show materials. What I did change was the top. The one thing I know about this time period is that the mantua was the fashionable dress and the design for this top reminded me a lot of the pulled back shape of the mantuas.

Anne: This one is my personal favorite. Again I took heavy inspiration from late mantua designs and mixed it with the original design. The lines, the layers, the collar shape, the wide sleeves. It made so much sense that it flowed in like five minutes. The one big change I did was the skirt top layer, the design said bustle, but Anne lived over a century and a half before those were a thing. What was a thing were layered skirts so thats what I went with.

Victoria: the one period where I know the fashion and it shows. The top is a mix of a mid victorian corset with late romantic era sleeves. I made the corset wider on top and just used sequin fabric with no overlay or studs to make it loose. The skirt was the big challenge. The design had a bustle over the skirt which would look weird irl and be a nightmare to move with. But the victorian period also had the elliptical cage crinoline which has all the bulk on the back and fits nicely over the rond skirt (it is also the iconic queen victoria look so the choice was clear).

Okay so BS/GS/PS ever since i saw the webcomic this guy gave me a new perspective abut how a little guy can be dangerous without being too scary and having trillions of himself so what do you think of his buffs in the manga compare to the WC? And about his cell count in manga and webcomic because:

I dont renember what you thought of the redraw of AS VS BS because is whit i think show us how much of a beast is BS.

Is insane i renember seeing this as cool as fuck but when we got this it crack my mind

Wah! :O Well dang! (aha and this particular character I feel is @pinapultra's area of expertise~) Lessee...

1. My thoughts on the Atomic vs BS redraw: even better than Murata's first attempt (which felt too 1:1 with the wc's version), cause now the manga has all the extra oomph and scaled impact to really drive home of the feelings of 'oshit' - oppressive, engulfing, overwhelming doom that echos mockery to break your spirit towards your last breath. D: Both chilling and effective.

2. Also as many speculated, looks like Multi's (wc) role became Golden (manga), but without ever getting 'killed' this time (Multi prematurely suffered a wrung neck from Tatsu and died; Golden had more manga screentime than that but only suffered a severed arm from Atomic before combining - so I agree with pinapultra that no one ever technically 'defeated' GS in this verse. :O) Plus with an even stronger form ONE was holding back as an answering surprise for later (Platinum), who now has the equivalent role of Golden's (wc), dramatic awaited sendoff/sacrifice/rebirth speech and all.

3. Concerning the manga's buffed cell count from 11 to 54 trillion....whew;;; I mean, at that point it's just too big a number to even tangibly fathom, but now multiplied by almost a factor of 5. O.O (lmao at King's remark for the overkill 'final boss settings') Where all THAT power & impact from countlessly many is all condensed down into 'one' new sentient body: Platinum. (With the last few spare 100, er 99, cells for Metal Bat to chase I suppose.) Who yep, we've yet to see what the hell Platinum will even be capable of this time around with that much more....magnitude behind his creation.

4. So my expectations for Platinum?? Just by his svelte body type, I'm guessing beyond the brick wall power GS displayed, he'll be doing his speed blitzes thru characters (where if he ever faces Flash, that'll be interesting to see) on top of that. But what I'm actually (most) excited for is that, if he's essentially taken GS's webcomic role....then that means Platinum is likely reserved for Garou. 👀 (Since only Garou was able to defeat GS in the wc.) But with that much more scale and magnitude behind his presence to force Garou to evolve even further. D: Holy shit, the hype. Especially if he has to somehow outmaneuver & prevail over a wc GS x 5. (Gwah! Murata was right when he promised this arc's scale would be even grander, so let's go~ And of course, I'm still waiting to see if Garou's 'your case of emergency just happened' line, while ripping thru one of BS's forms, will ever make the manga adaptation too.)
