FAQ:
What is MCYTBLR AU Fest? MCYTBLR AU Fest is a minibang-type event where writers and artists come together to create fanworks centred on MCYT and set in an alternate universe from canon.
How does it work? Writers will have a month to start work on a draft. After a month, at the half-way mark of their draft, they create a short summary/synopsis of their fic, which is posted anonymously for artists to view and claim. Teams are assigned by mods, and then teams will then have another month of creation time. Artists will create art based on the story they chose, and writers will finish their fic (minimum 5k words).
What type of MCYT is included? We welcome creations based on any SMP, whether or not they have a canon tag on Ao3. Mianite, DSMP, Hermitcraft, 3rd Life, Lifesteal, Witchcraft SMP— it's all welcome.
Can I join if my Art is a Playlist/Web Weave? You can particpate as an artist if your art is:
Digital/Traditional Art
Podfic
Playlist
Web Weave
What are the requirements for art? The requirements for different forms of art are:
Digital or Traditional art: a minimum of one piece, finished, inspired by the author's work.
Podfic: a podfic of the author's work, edited to whatever a baseline level of editing is for you.
Playlists: a minimum of one playlist inspired by the author's work per 5k, rounding up, to a limit of three required playlists. Playlists must be a minimum of an hour each.
Web Weaves: a minimum of one web weave inspired by the author's work per 5 k, rounding up, to a limit of two required web weaves, with at least ten elements each.
Other Art Form: other art forms such as fan games, original songs, would fall under this category. If you wanted to sign up with an Other art form, you need to contact the mod team and work out what minimum expectations would be for your art.
If I want to make more web weaves, can I? You can make as many pieces of art as you wish, the limit is just on what is required/expected by the mod team. For example, if your writer wrote a 10k work, you would be required to make two web weaves– but you could do as many as you want. If your writer wrote a 50k work, you would still only be required to make two web weaves, but you can do as many as you want.
Is anything required from me if I'm working with a particular type of artist? In general the requirement is just to be collaborative and communicative with your artist, but the one exception is if you are working with a podficcer. A podficcer can't start work until your work is complete (including editing), so to make sure they actually have time to record, anyone working with a podficcer will be required to finish a week early (so your writing completion deadline would be to finish by the 10th of July, instead of the 17th). In addition, podficcers will be generally expected to post near the end of posting week, so that they have two weeks to do the recording.
I heard there was web weaves, can I sign up for web weaves only? To increase matching opportunities, as a creator you must opt in to at least two types of art.
Is shipping allowed? Yes. For the comfort of the greatest number of participants, we ask that participants make a good-faith effort to ensure that any shipping is boundary-respecting, but because there is no broad fandom-wide consensus about how that is defined in specific cases (whether it's okay to write beeduo as /r or /p is an obvious case) or between specific fandoms (lifesteal approach to shipping is different from HBG is different from DSMP), the mods will not be policing any specific understanding of boundaries across the event. The event will operate on Don't Like Don't Read, in that everyone will have the chance to pick for themself if they are comfortable working with any specific ship, romantic or platonic, and it will not be permitted to change the nature of a relationship to /r after teams are assigned.
Is NSFW allowed? Yes, nsfw is permitted as long as it respects creator boundaries. When pitching a work, it must be clearly stated that the work contains NSFW content. To sign up to create an NSFW work everyone on the team must be 18+, and adding NSFW to a work after teams have been assigned is not permitted, even if everyone on the team is 18+. For the comfort of the greatest number of people in the exchange and the mod team, nothing that would warrant the tags Underage, Rape/Noncon, Dubcon, or Incest would be permitted.
If noncon isn't permitted, is non-consentual touching (platonic) allowed? As technically a punch in the face counts as non-consensual touching, and pvp is a classic part of most MCYT canons, we find banning all nonconsensual contact to be unnecessarily restrictive. As long as nonconsensual contact is not sexual in nature, it is permitted, however, it must be tagged for adequately along with any other potentially triggering content.
Do you allow dark or violent content? Yes. The lore of many mcyt servers includes death games, abuse, cannibalism, murder-for-hire, and other dark or violent themes. However, all potentially triggering content must be tagged for and those tags must be part of the sign-up, so collaboraters can make an informed choice to get infolved or not. Moreover, if your fic is rated E for any reason (including violence or gore), your team must be 18+.
How can I get involved? You can participate in this event as a:
Author
Artist
Pinch Hitter (Artist)
Pinch Hitter (Writer)
Beta Reader
You can even sign up for multiple roles, as long as you're very sure you can make your deadlines!
What is a Pinch Hitter? A pinch hitter is a person who saves the day and steps in when the original creator is unable to deliver their work for whatever reason, making a new work on an accelerated timeline. In case of pinch hitting a fanfic, you will will be asked to either write using the original writer's outline, or pitch a new story for the artist to pick among. If you are an artist, you will step in to make a new piece of art for a writer whose original artist dropped out.
Can I participate as a beta reader? Yes! Matching with a Beta Reader will be optional, but creators will have the opportunity to sign up to have a Beta Reader join their team for brainstorming, accountability, spellcheck, editing, or whatever else they need. Matching beta readers will be first come first serve.
What kind of a summary will I provide as a writer? How long or detailed? We ask that you keep your summary to two paragraphs or shorter, about as long as the AO3 Summary + Author's Note boxes. When you write out this summary, you should be about halfway through your draft, so you will have a general sense of how the story goes. In addition to a description of your fic, we'll ask that you list out the Server it takes place on, what type of AU it is, any ships (romantic or platonic), the expected word count, what age group of people you are okay working with, and any trigger tags that you expect to take place in the story.
When do I have to join the discord? You have the option to join the dicord and hang out as soon as creation starts on May 13, and if you are signing up either as a Beta Reader or wanting to be matched with a Beta Reader, you need to join the discord before signups close on May 15. If you don't need a beta reader or you already have someone you normally work with, you only have to join the discord before author sign ups close for artist matching, which is June 15.
Why do authors have to be halfway through their draft to sign up? How are you checking this? This is both to decrease the number of people who drop out halfway through, and to make sure that the artist definitely has something to work with. If you write your entire fic in the weekend before the posting deadline, that means the artist has a matter of days or hours for them to do their work, which isn't fair. Writers will be expected to submit a google doc with their half-draft in it at sign-up, for mods to verify word count.
How does team assignment work? We will release a document with all the summaries in it, and shortly afterwards we will release a sign-up form. Artists will be expected to list out out a top-five of stories they want to work with, and mods will match artists with stories on a first-come-first-served basis.
What happens if there are more artists than authors, or more authors than artists? If there are more artists, some fics will be assigned multiple artists. If there are more authors, we will put in place a question where artists can specify that they'd be willing to make multiple pieces, and a (hopefully small) number of artists would be assigned multiple teams.
What if all the fics I list have already been assigned? If artists outnumber authors, mods will set your list aside for later. Once every fic has one artist, we will assign you as a secondary artist to one of your chosen fics. If authors outnumber artists, you will need to submit another claim. While mods will update the form throughout the claiming period and remove fully claimed fics, there may be some delay with removing fics if we are unavailable.
I’m in [insert time zone here]. What if I’m not awake when claims open? There will be a spot to input your time zone in the discord. Mods will try to open the claims at a time that works for as many artists as possible. The fic summaries will also be available for 24 hours before claims so that everyone can read the summaries and pick out the ones that sound most interesting to them. We will aim for claims to open between 7 a.m. and 1 a.m. for as many artists as possible across all time zones. If claims fall outside that zone for you, you'll be able to contact a mod and we'll work out an alternative method for claims for you.
I don't know what time zone I'm in? Go to timeanddate.com and enter the nearest major city, and it will tell you your current time zone.
What's a check-in and how do they work? Check-ins are there to make sure everyone is on track to finish their piece in time, and to communicate any issues with the mods! If you know that you won’t be able to check in on a specific date (lack of internet, etc), please contact the mods in advance.
How long should my fic be? The minimum word count is 5,000 words! There is no maximum word count, but we ask you to be mindful of how much you can actually create in these two months.
If I wrote a multi-chapter work, do I have to have it all posted by the end of Posting Week? You must complete your work by the end of posting week, but in the cases of longer works, you may want to stretch out posting. In cases where you want to extend posting, you will be able to send in your draft to be verified by the mods, and then post just 40% of the draft during posting week.
What does AU mean in this context? AU stands for Alternate Universe and in this case means anything that would make the work not able to be tagged as canon compliant. Alternate endings, role reversals, complete setting or plot swaps, and crossovers all count. As this is a fest specifically to celebrate AUs, we ask that the AU be a significant and celebrated part of the work, not something that could be skipped if you aren't paying attention.
Can I create two pieces of art? Absolutely! There is no maximum for number of pieces you want to create, but again, be mindful of not biting off more than you can chew in a month of creation time.
Can I sign up with two fics? You are welcome to sign up as part of the fest with multiple fics, especially given that the word count is reasonably achievable for many people. However, if you do so, we will ask that you prioritize which fic you want to be matched on first, and you will only receive a match to your secondary fic after everyone else has an artist. We're going to proritize every particpant getting a team before we prioritize every story getting a team.
Can I sign up with a writing buddy— as part of a collab team? You are welcome to sign up as a collaborative team! We ask that you make sure you work together well, and when you sign up for an artist, you must declare that you're a team, so people know that they'll be getting multiple writers and not one.
Can I submit a fic that is part of a larger story? All stories must stand alone, you can't have it so that your artist has to read other works to understand your existing work. The fic also must be written specifically for the event. We ask that you not submit a summary for a fic that was already written prior to the start of the event. Brainstorming or outlining starting early is fine.
What if I need to drop out? It is your responsibility to communicate with us if you need to drop out of the event for any reason, and we do need that communication. We know that life is no respecter of fic and art deadlines, so no hard feelings if something happens. However, we would hate for any writer to end up having no art for their fic, so please think about this if you are thinking of dropping out close to reveals. Likewise, it would suck if an artist put a lot of effort into creating art for a fic that ends up not being written, so authors, please inform us in advance if you must drop out or think you will not be able to complete your fic on time. Dropping out after the last check-in without informing the mods will result in not being permitted to take part in further events run by this mod team.
I have a question not answered here? Send us an ask on tumblr, contact @antimony-medusa on tumblr or discord!

i've seen some people (mainly techno/quackity fans from the alliances) interested in getting into etho content after the polls, but it can be a little daunting when the guy's been making videos semi-consistently for over a decade, so here's your ✨ not definitive ✨ guide to Watching Ethoslab!
for starters: etho's videos can get a bit technical! he's a redstoner and is known for making lots of crazy stuff, like the original hopper clock design, a working tamagotchi, and a massive storage system that uses hexadecimal to sort and pull items.
if you're familiar with the life series, that's arguably where you'll get the most "character"/"lore" content from etho! he's been in all three seasons, starting with 3rd life. this is also where he shows off his pvp, and though it isn't as obvious in his own pov, you get to see everyone else being really intimidated and hyping up his mysterious guy persona... while he's busy crying over his stuff getting burnt.
however, if you want to start with some regular single player content, his lp series has been going for over a decade! if you're a big fan of older, nostalgic vids and can deal with him being a bit awkward, his season 1 is just over 100 episodes and imo is still very fun to watch today. if you're less into that, it can be intimidating to try and pick up a series with nearly 600 episodes, so you might want to start with his most recent world tour! it's a long one, but it summarises all the work he's done so far, and there's only 25 episodes after that which is a lot more manageable! (and then you can go back and watch the rest ^_^)
his current hermitcraft series is only 9 episodes long so it's pretty accessible, though he does start halfway through the season (and purposefully exiles himself across the world with no tools or help until he can beat a raid single-handed. because. jeez.) if you're looking for a more rounded experience though, his season 7 is where i personally started with etho content and is still one of his best series yet! he gets plenty involved with the overarching "story" of S7 too, so it's a great jump-off point if you're just interested in HC in general.
other iconic etho videos and series include
- king of the ladder, a fan favourite from his time on mindcrack (the series which, dare i say, made him the og mcytblr sexyman- seriously, look into nebtho and you'll see what i mean)
- team canada escape the nether, for a quick look into his dynamic with pause and beef, two other mindcrackers he collabs with a lot
- (and if you like that and want more, team canada's sky factory)
- lp episode 404. please watch lp episode 404.
overall, etho is a very chill guy to watch.. most of the time.. and i would highly recommend him to basically anyone who likes mcyt. he's your fave's fave, a pillar of the community, but also a guy just Doing His Thing, and even after a decade he's still finding new ways to improve and change his content... so even if i haven't convinced you to give him a try, hopefully i'll still have convinced you to give him a vote since he's about ~30 votes behind at the time of posting this ;)
thanks for reading, and happy watching! and of course, any other ethogirls are welcome to add their own recommendations in the notes!

(that post was so banger it finally made me register an alt) Honestly, you are so correct about L'Manberg
I remember regularly lurking around mcytblr and reading analysis and I think I only saw coherent L'Manberg nationalism analysis from, like, Xephyr and a c!Dream blogger/fan. Which is crazy in retrospect, because the ease with which most of the fandom leaned into fictional country hardcore patriotism was/is kinda insane
And the ensuing anti Doomsday stance -- like we all know that terrorism is bad and shit, but absolute refusal to acknowledge that maybe Doomsday trio and co were not punished by the narrative for having done that was because they were right was. sure something!
omg that's very flattering thank you :D
By Xephyr I assume you mean @considermygenderminecrafted ? Because yes, xe has some of the best L'Manburg critique out there, as well as some of the best c!Wilbur critique, everybody should absolutely check it out immediately (altho frustratingly, I just tried to find some of their posts as an example but Tumblr's search function is still absolute garbage (Xeph, do you have some of your great posts at hand and if so, can you just link some of them in the reblogs or something?))
And yes. There are valid criticisms that can be made of the Doomsday Trio's tactics (which even Techno himself sort of acknowledged later), but at the end of the day, they were on the right side of history
(Well Dream's character less so, but I can't even be bothered to try to analyse him at this point because none of his plans make sense to me)
Also nobody ever seems to acknowledge that Doomsday Trio were acting in self-defence, since L'Manburg had already gone after both Techno and Phil, and was at the time trying to kill Dream as well, although he kinda beat them to the punch (possibly because he already knew they were planning to kill him? idk, I'm not sure if that was ever confirmed or not)
But yeah, the argument about them needing to be punished by the narrative was always absurd to me, and it just betrays the fandom's belief that L'Manburg was supposed to be objectively good, despite all the evidence that it very much was not, not even to its own citizens! And possibly also the unquestioned assumption of "state good, anarchy bad"
Meanwhile the actual narrative repeatedly shows that L'Manburg always ends up becoming toxic, corrupt and ultimately oppressive, even under the Good President, while on the other hand the anarchist commune eventually turns into a sanctuary for all sorts of people who need a safe place to stay (even arguably the aforementioned former Good President when he needs somewhere to hide his son from kidnappers)
And yeah, this is why I did get pretty heated about some of the debates at the time, and I kinda still do, because in the process of assuming that L'Manburg was always the good guys, they ended up repeatedly justifying just absolutely horrific state violence as well as excusing early L'Manburg's xenophobia (as comedic as it initially was), which unfortunately mirrors a lot of real world authoritarianism and xenophobia
To be fair a lot of this was probably also protagonist-centric morality, since most of these people also saw the L'Manburg side as the main characters, but then again what is nationalism if not a form of protagonist-centric morality where you see your own country as the protagonist of the world lol
I might actually need to make a proper post now since multiple people have shown interest, unfortunately I'm also very lazy and kinda made my main points in that low effort post already
Which would mean that it would actually have to be a high effort post to justify its existence

Early MCYTblr Interviews: georgeeehd
today's interviewee is reese/georgeeehd/lmanburg/tommyofcolor! dreamlying member, mcytblr og, and the person who discovered that dream wasn't registered to vote. below is a transcript of questions and answers!
Q: What was your experience in wider MCYTblr?
A: I don’t have much experience with wider mcytblr. Maybe I used to reblog Grian stuff on my main blog, before all this DSMP shit. There wasn’t much of a Dream community when I started posting, much less one for DreamNotFound (surprisingly, Dreamnap was the popular ship of the two early on????? so bizarre to me), so I dug out my microcosm immediately. There was never a wider myctblr for me.
Q: What was your experience in critblr/dreamlying specifically?
A: The notion that dreamlying is the spawn of critblr is interesting to me, because I agree with you now, but I wouldn’t have at the time. Critblr was a tumblr community. Dreamlying was a friend group, predating critblr. I considered myself dteamblr for a really long time— I never felt aligned with the critblr movement because that was always Jason’s territory, really. I don’t mention it to nitpick or to scold, but like, I’m into this archiving thing, too, so I wanted to opine on how we label these groups. Maybe there should be a distinction made between what we considered ourselves vs. what we actually were.
My experience in proto-critblr was pretty cushy because it was all mine. Me and my contemporaries had a following, we were respected, we had smart things to say, we were funny, established, etc. Think, “The School of Athens.” I definitely grew a bit of an ego with how popular I was, which I’m sure will come across in this interview, haha.
At times I felt a little unchallenged, like people were only agreeing with me not because I was right, but because I was saying anything at all. At the same time, I was incredibly defensive and insecure, so the little pushback I might have gotten would bother me terribly. I was probably overreactive and mean. I was fifteen then, and I’m nineteen now, so there’s lots of things I would’ve handled differently, if I could.
In terms of my experience with dreamlying, I like what Ozzie had to say. We were all just very, very good friends. There’s not much else to it. In my first discord server, “dream lying” was a hidden messaging channel where we could critique Dream Team freely. “Dream lying” was supposed to parody the phrase “dream truthing.” So we were basically this tiny little secret society, at the start. There was no way we wouldn’t have hit it off.
Q: Are there any events that stand out to you?
A: A lot. Too many. Some are more personally relevant than historically relevant, and I don’t really know where to draw the line. The voter registration fiasco was a big one, but there were other smaller things… I was always in some fuckin’ controversy or another! The magic 8 ball says, Ask again later.
Q: Was being in MCYTblr an overall positive or negative experience for you?
A: Undoubtedly positive! I don’t even know where to start with this question. I met a lot of wonderful people that I still keep in contact with today, right? But beyond that, I feel like being in this community helped me grow a lot, like, personally. I was thinking and writing a lot. I learned so, so much, about people, about the internet, about fandom, about myself. It was such an expansive experience.
I guess I should mention that my time with mcytblr was incredibly stressful. My involvement in the fandom weighed heavily on my mental health. I felt very watched, and I still do. At my worst, I was hospitalized. (I couldn’t live with myself if I didn’t mention my mcyt-induced mental hospital stint in my mcyt interview.) None of that really moves me, though, ‘cause it was all just part of the experience, and I find it all pretty funny, looking back.
Q: A few people have mentioned the account mcyttruth in relation to you, specifically around a callout post. What happened there? [I had misremembered-- I meant to ask this to Jason lmanburg, not Reese lmanburg.]
A: The mcyttruth callout wasn’t about me, but my discord server, dteamblr 2. I was not as involved here— at this point, critblr was in full bloom, and this server was like a rendezvous for people who liked dreamlying and modcord blogs (modcord was another friend group, like dreamlying, but critblr-based).
Regarding that callout specifically, I don’t know. Probably, there were too many r-slurs, too many jokes about hating Ranboo, the usual. There were a lot of callouts (for me or for people I was friends with), and I never really took them seriously. I mean, honestly, the url “mcyttruth” alone is derivative. Do you know how many times I’ve read the words “mcyt” and “truth”? Everything about this is a blur to me.
Q: I suppose I would ask-- given the current events surrounding many of the creators who were popular in 2020/2021, do you feel that dreamlying has been vindicated in their criticisms of creators?
A: Yes, but I would have said yes in 2020, because who these people are was as obvious to me then as it is now. Our criticisms weren’t like, headcanons that we made up to be mean, they were plain old observations. Wilbur was openly mentally ill, creepy, and generally dismissive of other people. Not to say that there aren’t good things about him either, but, of course this is the kind of guy to make his girlfriend clean up after him. There’s a million cautionary tales about guitar stringers with floppy hair under a beanie, whiny song lyrics, and a masturbatory approach to self-loathing.
Dream’s not this person anymore, so that’s not why I bring it up, but think back to when his old Reddit account was exposed for being active on r/The_Donald. That was everything we were ever talking about! That was Dream being exactly who he was— a young white man from Florida. I love Dream, always have, always will. Acknowledging that he is/was a whole person with flaws and unsavory politics, I think, is truer fanhood than the idolization everyone puts him through.
You use the word “vindicated” to acknowledge that we were heavily criticized ourselves. Most of that was on the basis of privacy— you know, whether or not it’s okay to speculate on people’s personal lives. It doesn’t matter that we were “right” so often, that we still are, and always will be, because people will focus more on the original sin of having speculated in the first place.
I used to love vindication because it made me feel smart, like I could see things that no one else could. Now it just makes me sad. I don’t think it has anything to do with smarts, nor would I care if it did. I think people just don’t let themselves think that far. You know, “I don’t want to make assumptions,” “It’s none of my business,” “It’s not that deep,” etc. Maybe there’s no instinct to look deeper at all. It really just makes me sad.
Q: Is there anything else you'd like to add/have archived?
A: I’d like to ask everybody to stay critical. The hivemind response to recent events have shown me that this fandom remains as shallow, unthinking, conformative, elementary… as it was four years ago.
Thank you for conducting these interviews in the first place. It's nice hearing everyone’s voices again.

We don't do callouts here. If a user or tag bothers you, you should navigate to your Settings and use your block and filter. You can even block anons! By responding, you're only giving them unnecessary attention. (Also, don't give companies the time of day--block away!)
Don't use M/inecraft in your posts or tags unless the post is about the game itself, not any CCs, tournaments, or series related to it. Just shorten it to "MC"!
Don't use unrelated tags on your posts. Use correct and precise tagging. Using lots of unrelated tags is spam and both frowned upon and reportable.
Don't bring things up to the CCs, unless they find it themselves. They are perfectly capable of finding fan content here, without us breaking the boundary between fan space and creator.
Reblog, reblog, reblog! Likes are your bookmarks. Reblogs are what actually spreads posts around and gets more eyes on them.

DISCLAIMER Due to recent drama, a lot of the "old guard" of dtblr has left, and community cohesion was greatly reduced. When you find someone you like, give 'em a follow, and follow the people they reblog from too. Feel free to ask for follow recommendations and even reblog old posts! We're slowly picking up the pieces, and if y'all could help restore our community's safety and vibrancy, we'd really appreciate it!
Have a good one, and stay safe y'all!

List of MCYTblr Update Accounts!
This is a remake of the original list in order to declutter it! The original list still exists, it is merely not pinned anymore. This is to overhaul to organization system and remove the clutter of inactive blogs, which have become rather numerous.
This list is meant to serve as a compendium on update accounts here on tumblr for ease of discovering new ones since it can be somewhat difficult to find them!
If you know an update account that is not on this list or make one yourself, please let me know so I can add it! I’m only one person after all. Speaking of which, this account is run by Mod Luna, whom you may have seen on a few different update accounts such as philza-updates!
The update accounts are listed with the CC(s) they update on and whether they provide Image IDs and/or transcripts for accessibility. They’re also sorted alphabetically by name.
Please feel free to share this post or blog in any way you like! This is a blog specifically to spread info so if you want to at it to point people to it go ham.

ALSO to everyone who has never been a part of mcytblr and/or doesn't know what Mcytblr Multiplicity May is - basically:
In present there is a HUGE chunk of the mcyt fandom who are systems or otherwise plural. And it wasn't always like this. In May 15-16th last year i went to my beloved mutual metfell being like "met ily and a lot of what ur saying on ur kin blog sounds like system egg stuff" and then a bunch of met's friends were like "I relate HEAVILY to what you have been posting." And Met? Pretty big mcyt blog then and now. Met's friend ? P big mcyt blogs then and now. So what was me telling my friend that they might wanna check out Multiplicity and Me had a trickle down effect of a bunch of our friends and mutuals realizing they were systems which then turned into a whole bunch of ppl we Didn't Even Know realizing they're systems all at the same time. A time we have lovingly dubbed "multiplicity may."
And saying a bunch of ppl kinda underestimates the scale of it, because currently it's like every 3 steps you find someone whose a system. There are whole friend groups in mcytblr that are Only made up of systems and I'm in a Lot of them. There are thousands of ppl in this community so it was kinda like an EVENT. That was the biggest culture shock coming into tmntblr, realizing my experiences are the MINORITY. that's how many systems are in mcytblr
Some needed history to this is that up until this point kin culture was a VERY big thing in the mcyt tumblr community. So a huge part of the fandom were already aware of their deeply personal connections to mcrp characters and the ccs, so finding out that it might be a dissociative thing just Clicked in the heads for a lot of ppl.
My only existing theory for why this happened is that a lot of mcrp's and Especially dsmp touched on a lot of very heavy, very traumatic topics. With the biggest one - in dsmp's case - being child abuse and childhood trauma. Add that in with a world-wide pandemic and suddenly a lot of traumatized kids going through an extremely traumatic event are latching onto characters who share their experiences with trauma. Characters who they can see themselves in, characters who if you hadn't gathered already , are EXTREMELY traumatized. It was hurt people latching onto whatever they could. That was the whole dsmp fandom. With what drew systems to it in particular was just the huge variation of content in the mcyt community. Something something missing huge chunks of plot by not watching one creator and how it emotionally correlates to missing huge chunks of ur own life and having to fill in the gaps. That last part is a stretch but TLDR; I was the catalyst for a mass-system-realization-event in the mcyt tumblr community. Happy multiplicity may!
So ya @ all my new mutuals this is the kinda shit I get up to ^_^

hi friends! if you've seen this post of mine, you already know what this is about, but I'll let the slideshow speak for itself:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
here's the link for the streamer awards! nominations close today (11th Feb, presumably at midnight EST or in about ten hours), and community voting on nominations opens the 18th. with any luck, I'll get to re-use this presentation then, but I've said it before and I'll say it again: the only way we pull this off is with the help of MCYTblr on our side. if you've seen him around this week during the polls and his posts and interactions made you laugh, it would mean the world to us if you tossed your vote in for him or reblogged this to spread the word <3
[please note: we're trying to keep this a surprise from the community, so that he only finds out about it after we've pulled it off - don't go ruining the secret please! I will transcribe and describe all the slides in a reblog to avoid any chance of this showing up where he could find it. Legs or any other dominioneers, if you see this, feel free to cast a vote too but don't spoil the surprise!]

You can’t really come in here and ask the entire MCYTblr community to change just for you. This platform has a very different climate and the distance from most CC’s means that it’s very different from twitter, people aren’t going to stop interacting with fandom the way they want because it makes you uncomfortable, just block tags and words you don’t want to see.
i dont wanna start any discourse at all, i only meant responses to *my* art! also at present the only negative effect from saying that stuff on my posts is making me a little bothered, im not gonna block or harass people about it— its just a request for ppl not to bring that into my tags/replies!
totally get where ur coming from king, im only asking for my lil corner of the internet (my art, notifs and account, nothing more) to not be involved. its not even a big deal to me whatsoever, just something that every so often pops up and makes me go ‘hm’ in my notifs :] not even large enough for me to clutter my art posts with a reminder about it (hence just the occasional reminder), i promise im not super pressed or trying to police anyone o7

Gives you a plate of bread and some soup to share! Tell me about what the mcytblr elections were like! I only saw posts in passing back in the day, it’d be cool to hear from a veteran!! :D
OKAY it is one am but you know what yeah let's get into the HORRORS that were honestly really fun. Let's share
I joined the fandom the same day I properly watched a tommyvod, the drista one on October 11th/12th 2020 at like 3 pm after school. If you look at that, lina, you will recognize that A. It is four days before the sixteenth, and B. It was TWO DAYS before I joined the election discord. The discord started the same day i joined practically. This event was so big and so good for meeting friends that it immediately ballooned the conversation.
The mcytblr election was started by one tumblr user called ADHDdream who posted this real neat tumblr post where they essentially went "lol man at this point I should be the president of mcytblr." And then EVERY OTHER PERSON on this site said yeah lol. Or what if I was. And within four hours every single person on mcytblr (at this point mcytblr was extremely small- and since the dsmp portion of it was the majority no one thought to differentiate between smps) had made parties and alliances and an actual coalition, although that might have taken more like five hours. It was like penismp if penis smp managed 53,000 discord messages in one month. I was the one to start the original mcytblr brochure blog (@mcytblr-elections ) and I started it literally before I even joined the election discord. It was THE event and it started about three months of dedicated roleplay. I met victoy maybe three days in and they brought me under their wing like an artistic baby bird.
Basically, there was a re-enactment of the dsmp elections but in real time. There was campaigning, posters, I made a minx-niki flag for fvck2020- that's how all of them were organized too, name2020, and you registered 9 policies with the mods (you also had to have a front runner and a second. They actually banned coalitions initially but like LOL no) in at which time you would have an official channel on the discord. Preliminaries were where we all set up original parties, and there was TONS of voter fraud because it was literally just a Google doc voting booth which was HILARIOUS but thats beside the point. The policies are a mirror of the culture atp, like inniter oppression (where I met uncertain!!) And making sure everyone got free stuff
There was a whole lot of hype, and roleplays were starting up immediately. Silverfish2020 turned into a 100 person strong cult almost immediately and as tumblr tends to do, many MANY inside jokes were formed. I recently annoyed my friend with a sc of the #mpreg-rp channel which had someone role-playing jschlatt as a pisswife. It became the biggest hub for watching streams, too. I vividly remember organizing with a few main character staples who would watch who in the election discord so we could all let each other know what was going on in the festival stream (btw little known fact but even with two backups my stream crashed on Nov and Oct 16th during the TNT parts. I have still to this day never watched lmanburg actually blow up properly.
IGNORING ALL THAT though the mcytblr election absolutely SUCKDD. For one main reason okay and I'm okay saying this now b/c all the old mods have moved on
Tldr the mods were SO CONTROLLING
I am not kidding I was literally fighting with a mod on day three (when the fundy community was big, this was a mainstay blig for the fundy followers) because of a party called Anarchy 2020- Anarchy2020 was essentially the fun happy-go-lucky dudes that were like "we should all topple this government! Not my president! Revolution!". There were lots of tnt jokes n essentially it was a party dedicated to everyone who didn't want to have a president or just wanted to roleplay a revolution, but since it didn't technically have party runners it couldn't be voted for. And also one of the mods was A. An anarchist and B. A total weirdo. They literally said "THEYRE USING IT WRONG AND IT MAKES ME ANGY CUZ IM AN ACTUAL ANARCHIST FKFBFKFJ" that's quoted. It was basically a response to people not voting and wanting to overthrow. Freaking weird bro they made it such a big deal ANYWAY
There was a whole multi-chara roleplay!! Soul (,wow I knew them!!!) won the election, there was a whole countdown and everything- quotes2020 beat silverfish2020 by FOUR votes. There was uproar!!!! Revolution!!!! ANARCHY!!!!
The election basically created that community. There were a few tumblr events to happen after it (by the way, funny phenomenon, but mcytwt actually copied every event we did with WAY less success like a few days after each. Wonder how that went) like friend or host (I joined it. I was the first contestant out of the ONLY round if friend or host ever I think. Imagine being the first person eliminated after holding a bird mask 2 ur face for ten minutes. Girl that shit was so awkward) the mcytblr prom (I did NO roleplay but I did dress up) and mcytblr highschool??? I think. There were two more elections after it that i consider canonical, but really only the very first two (out of like five) had anything really stick around. But bro it was so good and I didn't even get to half of it. I'll leave you with a screenshot of jpiss from the mcytblr got talent mpreg-rp chat

Wait what did you do? Why do so many people have you blocked?
I used to be a part of a blog known as “straightdreamsmp.” It was essentially a blog that was meant to imitate those other blogs about making gay shows straight or whatever. It was started by a person who didn’t even watch dsmp, and i- who thought the blog was funny- wanted to help out because there wa only one moderator for the blog. The blog posted absolutely rancid shit. Asks came in that were essentially graphic depictions of toruture porn and people sent in a lot of asks about how the most popular ship would be Tommy x wilbjr.
I was like 12 at the time, iirc, and i was also a part of the poppy community. The blog essentially cultivated assholes and boundary breakers. I’ve changed as a person since i was 12 (I’m 15 now), and now when i look back at the blog i cringe. Back then, though, i was a kid who wanted clout. None of the other mods linked their main blogs, but I did, because hey, the blog had 1,000 followers, and i wanted some of that. I also vehemently defended the blog because I didn’t want to lose the ‘community’ or friends I had.
Essentially, the blog sucked, and back then, so did I. It cultivated the poppy community. I know this, because I was one of them, and the blog attracted me. You don’t wanna know the shit in the inbox I had to read. Anyway, I am, rightfully, blocked by like half of mcytblr. I am literally blocked by conarcoin because of what i did, lol. Anywho, I’ve changed now, so i hope this doesn’t change your opinion of me, but if it does i don’t blame u. Feel free to do whatev w this information.
And, even though I’ve released like 3 diff apologies, i am, once again, sorry for all the shit I did back then.

Question, I am thinking of making a mcyt event myself, and I would just like to know if there is anyway you seem to be able to reach out and gain an audience so well? How do you suggest one would reach out to the demographic they're looking for?
Honestly I think the holiday exchange gets a decent audience because of
a) Already having an audience. This is the third major event that we've run through this blog, and we have over six hundred followers to it, just slowly gained over almost two years. This mod team has a record of events that have run majority successfully, so when we start up an event, people already know that like— this is a mod team who's fairly organized and will get pinch hits for drops, for example.
b) Deliberately designing events to be as broad-interest as possible. Holiday exchanges run in every fandom in this time of year, and we are deliberately open to all of mcyt, despite the matching difficulties that presents, to try and make sure everybody can be included if they want to be. And this is a decently long creation period with a low minimum. We only saw ⅔ of the signup for aufest, which has a higher minimum for creation, and when some of the same mod team did 48 hour exchange (which was still pan-mcyt and a low minimum, just an insane turnaround for gifts), we had about a ⅓ of the signup for the holiday exchange. So any sort of demographic tightening— focusing on a single smp, a single ship, a larger minimum, no art, etc— you're gonna see much fewer people.
So some of what we do to get the word out is just not replicable to every event. HOWEVER, what we do do is:
Tag our promo posts with every tag that seems appropriate for our theme— so like we tag our initial posts with every mcyt fandom over 1000 works on the archive— and also mcyt and mcytblr, and also fandom exchange and holiday exchange. Make sure that if people have followed tags, the post will show up in them.
A new promo post once a week during the promo period, tagged appropriately. It's the same information as last time, just in a new format, and reminding people of the deadline. You don't want to be annoying, so make posts as fun and polite as possible, but it's just a like "hey, this is happening, you're welcome to join!" thing. Things drop out of the tag fast, so you want to come back like hey! Here is a thing!
Reblog the promo post to our own blog once a day, at different times of day so you hit different time zones. One day you reblog it at 11pm, the next day it's going out at 7am. If people have followed the blog (and this is particularly because we have followers of the blog from old events), the odds that they see the promo post goes up.
This one is a bit more wibbly wobbly but try and sure that your promo posts have something actionable on them. If you have a discord, it has a join the discord link on it. If you have a google form, it has the google form on it. If you have prompts the prompts are either listed or teased in such a way that people click through. You CAN have hype-building promo posts that the thing people can do is follow the blog, but in that case you fill it full of teasers or info so people are like "well I gotta see what happens next".
Images are good? Either an image (id described) or as snappy as you can make it ad copy. You have like a second and a half to catch someone's attention in the tag, and you want that initial impression to get as much information across as possible, and also lure people to read more. So if you can communicate either "this person has a graphic designer/artist on the team" or (honestly what I'm usually communicating) "this person knows how to use canva", it helps bump the overall impression of your event as slightly more professional/organized, which increases the likelihood that people click through.
Promo posts are basically advertising, so you want to be informative, clear, interesting, funny if possible, and hook your viewer in some way. With that said, we got a decent amount of notes off of the recursive exchange "this is how you sign up" post because people were just like "you gotta take a look at this shit" so sometimes it just works if you have something worth sharing.
I am NOT professional at advertising this is just basically me having been on tumblr for a decade, so feel free to look at other events to see how they do it. But I hope this helps! And message me your event when it's ready to go, I'd love to signal boost it!

What’s the difference between the techno people campaigning on other platforms and the hermits/empires campaigning on stream and on Twitter? /gen
I mean, Joe has been campaigning on here.
The difference is that they are the CCs. And most of them don't have that much power over Tumblr specially considering that most of Hermitcraft and Empires fanbase... Is on here. It always was like this. Historically the Hermitcraft fandom is bigger and way more active on Tumblr. Which means there's less to sway and most people you're swaying olarevon here anyway. They get to call it.
That's why I don't mind at all that Quackity has been managing to win with countless communies supporting eachother. They're Tumblr communities. That's the game.
Techno's reddit however...
If you are a Techno fan, like I am, you know that Reddit is made of die hard fans who will do anything to make Techno win. Which can lead to amazing stuff! Their fantastic organisation lead to an astounding work in r/place for example. Unfortunately that's what kills our Tumblr poll fun.
Because they will win. Because those Reddit users won't consider posts about why someone should be considered a sexyman.
I was convinced by some arguments. I was originally was gonna vite for Scott but voted for Jimmy in the end.
I can tell you the Reddit users only care is that Techno wins. No care for the rest. I just checked and most of the popular posts are just people asking the others to vote for Techno. There are people asking to post the link to the post on the comment section of his videos.
Tumblr media
People creating accounts just to vote...
Tumblr media
You know. Mcytblr be damned.

Alright- who do I have to bribe for more Scar votes?
As I stated earlier today, I have ONLY voted for Scar and ZombieCleo this round so far. So in an exchange for voting for Scar (and spreading some propaganda) I am open to voting for ANYONE in the polls that I have yet to vote for.
What do you get in this exchange??
1) The obvious- I will vote for your person in this round (and potentially) next round as well, should they make it through.
2) I will campaign RELENTLESSLY for your blorbo. My resume for this specific point is my fight to the bitter end for Pixlriffs in the last round. Yes, he lost, yet I spammed all the propaganda I could find/made myself so much so that, for the first time in my ten years of tumblr, I hit post limit. And I still kept going.
3) I will write a fanfic/analysis of your choosing about ANYONE you wish (within the mcyt community/sphere). This one is more of a fun bonus simply because I’ve never posted fanfiction to this blog- but I have written and posted analysis to here before. One of which was reblogged by an essay blog (which I thought was kind of weird, but hey if it proves the merit of my own writing I’ll use it)
So dear mcytblr, I’m ready to sell my soul to see more GoodtimeswithScar in this competition.

Early MCYTblr Interviews: wormweeb
our interviewee today is @wormweeb, author of the cowboy au, nominee in the 2020 MCYTblr election, and overall MCYTblr veteran. below is a transcript of the questions and answers!
Q: What do you remember most fondly about “Early MCYTblr”? (2020-2021)
A: I think early mcytblr had the perfect mix of being an insular, small community with enough people actually posting (whether it be shitposts, art, fix, etc.) to keep the community alive. Perfect reblogger-creator ratio, I think. I loved seeing the familiar notifications from blogs that frequently RBed my stuff and familiar Urls in the tags (which I probably checked daily lol). There was this infectious energy that made being in the fandom so fun, with all the inside jokes and interactions and inter-blog familiarity.
Q: Do you recall your experience in the first MCYTblr election? What was it like?
A: Honestly, there was a lot of anxiety. I didn’t have many friends in the fandom in the sense that I didn’t often DM with people or talk in discord servers. I was kind of reclusive, so having to reach out to find running mates was nerve-racking! And then being thrust into a huge discord server with a bunch of other people I didn’t really know at all… It was all bizarrely anxiety-inducing. I didn’t really care about the results that much, since it was kind just a popularity contest (no hate, just true). I think the elections were cute and fun, another sort of fandom activity that I think only could’ve worked in an insular but involved fandom.
Q: Building off the last question– in my time archiving, I’ve seen people both hold you in high regard and condemn your blog wholesale. Is it odd to be talked about as a pseudo-historical figure in MCYTblr culture?
A: It’s mind-boggling! When I did all my posting as wormweeb, roughly July 2020 to august 2021, I was 16/17 and literally never left my house due to quarantine. It’s bizarre to think I was influential in that microcosm of a fandom, because I was truthfully just Some Guy irl. It was weird to see the extremes of how people treated me, with some users (much younger than me, I should add) treating me like a cc, with other people acting like I was a toxic supervillain.
At the time, I was deeply concerned with my image in the fandom. I reveled in the shocked reactions to some of my more… avant guard posts… but I was also really bothered when people talked badly about me. I wanted to be liked and popular, but I also wanted to be shocking and critical. I had contradictory motivations behind my posting, which I probably lead to such polarized reactions to my presence in the fandom.
Ultimately, I think it’s super interesting to see how people talk about me — whether they remember me as ‘that one crazy truthing blog’ or the cowboy au author or a proto-critblr poster or a toxic bad takes poster, etc. I don’t take any of it too personally any more, thankfully.
Q: Do you think that MCYTblr’s cultural shift away from crit and ‘truthing’ has been an overall good or bad thing?
A: I can’t really say. I think it’s natural that as a fandom expands, the most palatable takes will become the dominant ones, and any unpopular criticism / trutherisms will be pushed to the fringe. I can see why some people thought criticism was toxic and truthing was intrusive, but truthfully, I don’t think it reflected any poster’s moral character. I’m not involved in mcytblr anymore, so I don’t know exactly what the state of the current fandom looks like.
Q: Do you ever find yourself missing 2020-2021 MCYTblr? If so, what do you miss the most?
A: I often do miss that era of my life. Truthfully, I miss the attention and (infinitesimally small, microcosmic) cultural import I had. There was an exciting thrill that came with getting notifications every second of the day — that’s not an exaggeration either. I liked having people leave deranged asks in my ask box, or ask my opinion on some random streamer micro controversy, or people asking me when the next chapter of my fanfic would come out (lol). I, of course, miss the other elements of being in an active fandom — the fanfics, the fan artists, the familiarity between blogs,
However… I also know I was mentally unhealthy during that time. I was isolated, so it was fun and exciting to be an ultra-micro celebrity, but at the same time, I took it way too seriously. Because I painted myself as some sort of moral guardian, the great Intellectual Critiquer of content creators, I was terrified to make any bad takes… which, ironically, I made a lot of. I had painted myself into a corner both being dteam critical and (unfortunately) a genuine dteam stan at the time.
Q: Several in-jokes have lost their context (jewge, ancap dream, tradwife george/dream, homophobic dream and sapnap, republican dream, mega milk sapnap/george, etc). Would you like to provide their context, for archival and media literacy purposes?
A: Here’s a rundown for all of them!
“Jewge” was actually sparked by warpedfungusonastick, which I helped popularized. There are a few old videos where George’s friends called him jewge, and that combined with his ashkenazi last name led me to speculate he was jewish — for what its worth, im also jewish. Unfortunately, I think those videos of baby jewge have been lost to time. But nonetheless, that spawned a mini-jewge fandom, which jewge fanart!
Tradwife George and dream… I don’t know even know. I think the idea of “male wives” was trending on general Tumblr at the time. There was already this fandom idea of Dream being a “needy top” and George being the sugar baby/bitchy/uninterested love interest, which I just transplanted onto the idea of tradwifery. Dream as the doting tradwife, George as the unloving tradwife, etc.
Republican/Anarcho-capitalist dream — Ah, this one is kind of embarrassing!! I was really into jreg, and I was, for the first time ever, exposed to political ideas outside of the generic democrat vs republican dichotomy. I was really fascinated by right-wing libertarian or “ancap” ideology, and I already saw dream as a kind of self-made capitalist success story. At least, that’s what he portrayed himself as. My critique of dream and calling him ancap/republican was kind of a baby’s first leftism moment for me… but I nonetheless think the jokes were mostly funny.
Homophobic dream / sapnap — They gave me republican vibes. Dream especially, with some of his older, unsavory tweets, reeked of edgy gamergate humor.
Megamilk sapnap — I didn’t really pioneer this one! I believe this was mostly a Tumblr user who I think was pandascanpvp, or it was Plates gayminecraftmen (or both).
I’ll use this opportunity to catalogue a few more obscure wormweeb-pioneered AUs.
Homestuck au! I think I imagined it as dream = dirk, George = Jake English. Colournotfound (rip gone but not forgotten) did so much of the sustaining of the au.
Scott Pilgrim au. Dream = Scott, George = Ramona. Fundy = envy. This one got fan art!
Q: What was your physical, mental, and emotional reaction when kaceytron pulled up your crit post on stream?
A: Baffled. Excited. God, I wish I had clipped it! I still have a screenshot. I desperately hoped she would read it to dream (who joined the stream later). That felt like I had peaked as a cc stan blog… having a C-list streamer pull up my post on stream. Literally google searching “dream queer baiting” because she didn’t even know what she was accusing him of, or how to support her argument.
Q: Is there anything else you particularly want to share or talk about?
A: I was just want to say that although I don’t watch or support any member of the dteam any more, I still am proud of the cowboy au. It’s kind of a relic of the time (especially the gnf and Maya mxmtoon stuff). The general response to the fanfiction was… wow!! Everyone who commented on that fanfiction was so exceedingly kind. People even drew fan art. I am still happy to have written something that, despite the inherent cringeness of it, positively affected so many people.

BOP!!!
Tumblr media
bits n’ pieces:
1 -❥ we r a system- however due to ordeals with other systems we will be refusing to call ourselves such after this post & interacting w/ syscourse and if u show u r anti-endo/similar or anti-otherkin we will block u due to prev stuff that happened w/ them. in case hard to read/understand, We don’t want any syscourse here, it will be deleted and/or ignored, anti-endos and anti-otherkin CAN theoretically interact but you are on THIN FUCKING ICE because of others of those types who interacted before. We don’t need to be “taught” about them and the “harm” they do to the community. So don’t even try it even as a fellow system or as a medical professional. Our stance is firm and bringing that shit up is distressing because of how it was done in the past.
2 -❥ We’ll call ourselves a “caffeine cabinet” and each other “blends” over the normal medical terms. This is a note about that for later reference
3 -❥We do not owe you any information about us otherwise, however we will state we are 20 years old bodily
4 -❥ this is primarily a blog for our various bur introjects and interps and such. Others (including me) might do some things to include the others due to knowing them or to talk about our own burs.(<- mum lied abt this this is actually now essentially just our mcytblr blog)
5 -❥we’re primarily english speaking however we r trying to get the body fluent in at least spanish and french for the q!introjects!! if we ever say something wrong we trust y’all to correct us
6 -❥ we do not like ds/mp, we do not involve ourselves with ds/mp or dr..m let alone the dr..m stans. so Please, do not come to us on that. :} we do however LOVE making ourselves interps/aus off it & ourselves: many here u find here r likely that. pls do NOT tag our posts as dr..m uncensored UNLESS for others to block it- we personally will tag them with a “emoticon masker” as a blocklist tag
7 -❥ Literally the only canon content of ds/mp we have is by having watched Technoblade’s streams: everything else is hear-say of people we know and trust to tell us about it back when it was happening. That is also the case of most interps and such here. We heavily don’t interact with the canon content most of the time: this however does not mean that we will not figure out how to make an interp, let alone an oc off literally 3+ emojis and each other’s brainrots
8 -❥ c!sbi is beloveds, along w/ c!karlnapity, c!beeduo and c!benchtrio
9 -❥ we mostly see things as queer platonic HOWEVER we r heavy /r beeduo & /r tntduo enjoyers, as well as wish /r karlnapity wasn’t touched by the fans since to our knowledge it was better left alone. We do look at /r d/nf but that’s specifically bc we have a G..rge and Dr..m pair of blends who had the entire xdnf bit be ENTIRELY a joke during their memories. Also there’s multiple polycules in the cabinet including it.
10 -❥ we don’t always vet who we reblogged from if they’re on our feed!! there’s a good chance we haven’t interacted with them in a long enough while we forget they exist besides sillies to point at later!!- if you know they’re a terf or some shit TELL US PLEASE!! we don’t like them and it is normally a mistake it they appear on our blog bc we followed them pre-terf bullshit or knowing such!!
11 -❥ tags on this will serve as a navigation of sorts. With that being said hope you enjoy your visit and such!!
