THE NANNY: PROLOGUE
Tumblr media
Pairing: Andy Barber x Annie Johnson (OFC)
Summary: Working and single parenting is not easy. Andy needs to find a nanny for his son Jacob. Annie, an education degree student at Lasell University, comes to their lives just in time for the big changes in Andy’s life.
Warnings: none
A/N: This is a story with a younger Andy Barber (30) and a 3 year old Jacob. Also, English is not my first language, I know Little about how education (in general) and universities work in the States, sooooo don’t come from me, please, at the end of the day this is just fiction and the purpose is to entertain. Enjoy!

Everyone at the office was cheering and drinking from their plastic cups.
“To Andy! The new ADA.” Pam said staring at Andy while lifting her cup.
“To Andy!!” everyone responded and drank.
Andy walked to the corner of the office and got his cellphone out from his pocket staring at the picture of his little son Jacob smiling on the screen.
“Hey, is everything ok?” Pam asked behind him.
“Amm yeah, is just…”
“What? You don’t seem happy, I thought this is what you wanted.”
“Of course it is, is a great job.”
“But?”
“Is more work, and Jacob is so little… I already feel I don’t spend much time with him, you know and now… I don’t know what to do! You said it, is the job I’ve always wanted, but is not fair for Jake.”
“You can get a nanny.”
“A nanny?”
“Why not? A lot of people have nannies, and it will be just a couple of hours in the afternoon. I’m sure if you talk to Lynn you can come to an arrangement.”
Andy thought about it a couple of minutes, Pam was right, nowadays it wasn’t weird for people to get help to take care of theirs kids. Jacob was already in daycare in the mornings, they could still have lunch and dinner together before put Jacob to bed.
“It doesn’t sound bad, I’ll post something on line or the newspaper… people still do that right?” Andy smiled at Pam
“Sure grandpa.” Pam said amused “I know a babysitter, she helps me with Phoebe sometimes. You know when we have emergencies.”
“Do you recommend her?”
“Of course I do, Phoebe loves her! And she is a student at Lasell so, is not a problem for her to come to Newton.” Pam pulled out her phone and wrote a number in a piece of paper. “There you go, her name is Annie Johnson; she is cool.”
“Thanks.”  Andy said looking at the little paper. “Can I do my research?”
“God Andy! She is not a murderer! I just told you she is a nice girl!”
“Still…”
They laughed a little and come back to the celebration. Andy was serious about the research, he couldn’t have a stranger taking care of his kid and house without knowing anything about her.

A black lady sketch show
Tumblr media
A BLACK LADY SKETCH SHOW PROFESSIONAL
A BLACK LADY SKETCH SHOW SERIES
“When I started making a name for myself in the industry, a lot of the jobs I was taking were more theatrical or more serious roles,” said Dennis about her appearances on Marvel’s “Luke Cage,” BET’s “The Game” and the Fox medical drama “Rosewood.” “I started out doing standup and sketch comedy - most people aren’t aware that that was my foundation,” Dennis, 39, told The Post. “A Black Lady Sketch show” is a trip back to her roots for Gabrielle Dennis, who stars alongside Robin Thede on the HBO comedy series. How steamy Jane Austen show ‘Sanditon’ got un-cancelled Jake Johnson on new show ‘Minx:’ ‘The penis montage was very funny’ The nuclear nightmare that almost took out the East Coast The second season rises above the previous season and will have viewers’ praying for a third installment. From Jeff Bridges to ‘Game of Thrones’ spinoff: the hot summer shows A Black Lady Sketch Show does more than show Black women’s range for comedy, it celebrates Black women with all their joys and hilariously shows the barriers Black women experience. Hopefully, this show not only continues but continues to improve upon previous seasons. Don’t think there are even white characters in the background another noteworthy surprise as many shows and films, even when they showcase us will include at least one white person to cater to the white gaze. The writers know it, hence the hilarity of the sketch “Tired Dance Moves”. This show stands out as much as Key & Peele and is more notable due to its creator, writers, and characters being Black women, who are often overlooked. It’s now Black women playing a variety of roles and while other sketch shows have existed and had Black people, they are often tokens in the show and feel made for white people to laugh at us. Creator Robin Thede is as talented in writing as she is acting and it’s nothing short of phenomenal to have a show specifically made showcasing our comedic talents and stories.
A BLACK LADY SKETCH SHOW PROFESSIONAL
It gives a shout out to games like MASH many of us played-IYKYK-while still giving relevance to current culture with phrases like “holy Dora Milaje.” There is also a sequel to the beloved first season sketch that highlighted the elation we feel when we encounter solely Black ladies in a professional setting-a rarity for many of us-in “Courtroom Kiki Part 2”.Ī Black Lady Sketch Show season 2 improves upon the first season and it’ll be a challenge to select one favorite from this season. The show even touches on the challenge of getting a unified opinion with the sketch “Black Market Research”. It does not show a one-dimensional monolithic Black woman experience but joyously revels in the differences. The beauty of this show is how it not only showcases Black women but reminds us of our own experiences hanging out with friends.
A BLACK LADY SKETCH SHOW SERIES
The core story of the group of friends surviving after the world has ended continues throughout the series with various sketches interspersed between this continuing segment. Haddassah Olayinka Ali-Youngman warning of the dangers of white people putting raisins in everything to the dysfunctionally comical Chris and Lachel romance and some of these characters do return for season two with a spate of guest stars including Issa Rae, Gabrielle Union, Wunmi Mosaku, and Omarion as well as two new recurring cast members Skye Townsend and Laci Mosley (as Quinta Brunson had scheduling conflicts). They also gave us unforgettable characters such as Dr. Still, the initial season with actresses Robin Thede, Ashley Nicole Black, Gabrielle Dennis, and Quinta Brunson had a banging intro of the quartet as muppets, acting up while Megan Thee Stallion’s “Hot Girl” plays. Unsurprising given how sketch comedy is some sketches work while others fall short of hitting the mark between truth-however exaggerated-and comedy. A Black Lady Sketch Show season 1, when it aired in 2019 had peaks and valleys.

“About Three Years Later” - Reaction
Picking up approximately three years later, Jess and Nick return from a European book tour; Schmidt and Cece celebrate their daughter's birthday with a party, where Jess runs into her ex; Winston and Aly try to pick a pregnancy photo.
Okay, so first off even just the scene from the last season finale had me in tears. Pretty immediately. THAT GREEN LIGHT I WANT IT. Yeah then the tears just never stopped for the next half hour.
That first little prank had me double-taking like crazy. Bathroom buds! What first sent fire through my veins turned out to be a hilarious joke and adorable set-up for us to see our beautiful babies, Jessica Damn Day and Nick Miller, Nick Miller back together again. Even if Jess has that insane nose ring. But then we are slammed with this episode’s second prank! I really didn’t think it was going to be a ring since it cut off, but I was hella confused. And honestly just the thought of them being engaged had me crying anew. Then we get prank #3 all before the intro. credit! This one was honestly the best because it was the most obviously fake one. At least to me. But the best part of that scene was seeing that Aly is pregnant!! Oh my gosh, I’m so happy for them! And even if she doesn’t want to be treated differently, she totally rocks the pregnant look. Those pregnancy glamour photos had me in stitches. Speaking of, Hannah is definitely showing, right? Like I’m not going crazy? It kinda makes me wish Cece was again too! But they already have their caramel miracle so it wouldn’t really make sense to the story for her to get pregnant again.
Don’t even get me started on little Ruth! I love her like she is my own already. I was a little worried about what role she would play in this final season, just because I crave Ness so much, but she is an adorable and welcome addition to the roomfriends! She is so sweet and sassy, I just love her! And I also love that Cece brings home the bacon and Schmidt is a stay-at-home-dad. Which is honestly for the best considering he seemed deeply miserable at AssStrat.
So let’s talk about this insane birthday party Schmidt planned. It is so typical Schmidt to be this over the top and I absolutely love that we get to see that crazy channeled into something for his daughter. Also love the idea that the party magician died at Ruth’s first birthday party so they have to redeem themselves. So utterly ridiculous!
Let’s also take a moment to digest Jess’ almost-mid-life crisis. I am so confused. The nose ring and the misspelled neck tattoo of her own name?? I think it may be alluding to her weird stress about not settling down yet, but it’s not really clear to me yet. Hopefully that’ll be explained a little more in future episodes because if it was just a joke, it didn’t quite land with me.
On to Russell! What the heck?! I mean I guess we knew he was going to be back this season thanks to spoilers, but I didn’t expect him so soon! I’m hoping he’ll bring back the valet cards before the end of the show (crying at the fact I just typed that phrase). And he’s even playing what may end up being an important character since he offers Jess a job by the end of the episode. A job that Nick doesn’t even mind if she skips his book tour to take because he loves her so much and just wants to propose.
Speaking of proposal, let’s skip to the meat and potatoes of this episode! Everything about the almost-proposal made me so happy and grin like a damn fool. From Bob Day’s one man celebration, to Nick asking for his blessing again, to Nick starting to go down on one knee, I couldn’t handle it! I am absolutely bursting to see the proposal! This has been such a long time coming, I could talk for hours about how happy it makes me that they’re almost there. And the fact that Nick’s planning on doing it in the loft makes it even better (let’s just pretend we didn’t see that eviction notice or building condemnation note or whatever it was). And that he was even going to do it in front of everyone because he couldn’t wait any longer just had me breathless! Jess telling Nick she didn’t care if they got married didn’t get me down because I knew the writers wouldn’t do that to us at the very end. I’m sure it’ll be so romantic and perfect I’ll have to take off work the next day just to emote.
And to end on a hilarious note, what even was Schmidt and Nick’s B-story?? That freakin’ mustache is so weird to see on Schmidt’s face. Not that I hate it as much as Nick does, but it’s so odd. Side note, can we please see Nick’s Instagram that he only posted pictures of bread and pasta? Sounds like my kind of Insta. Oh and that sunscreen. Gross. I’m shocked Schmidt would do that, but I guess parenthood does that to you. Anyway, Nick gets so mad about it. I think he’s just stressed about the proposal so this is how it’s showing. At least they get to have their little heart to heart at the end and Nick shaves it off. That part was hella weird, but probably not the weirdest thing that’s happened on this show.
On the verge of inadvertently writing an entire recap post, I’m going to cut myself off here. In exchange, have an extra long list of favorite quotes! See you next week, roomfriends!
Favorite quotes:
“Look at those horny, horny hippos.” —Nick
“Daddy’s butt!” —Ruth
“Ten years in marketing, three years in fatherhood, and six months planning this party, I feel like my entire life has been leading up to this very moment.” —Schmidt
“That polecat just doesn’t stop.” —Jess
“Why are you doing balloons by mouth?” —Winston
“Sometimes it just takes dating your cousin for things to really fall into place.” —Jess
“If it’s anything less than perfect I’m going to hire a professional samurai to chop me in half.” —Schmidt
“You don’t have to worry about Ole Nicky Blue Eyes.” —Nick
“I got to go wash my hands. I’ve been in Europe.” —Nick
Predictions:
Nick proposes like two episodes from now
We skip around in time, a la Parks and Rec, but in the subtle way New Girl is known for with their flashbacks

Songs for Writing Inspo <3
Tumblr media
hi friends.
here is a list of some songs that i think could potentially be good plot ideas / are cute aesthetics. i think i covered a vast variety of themes. some are for meet-cutes, some are sweet plot ideas, some are angsty anthems. i just wanted to leave this here partially myself but also for my fellow writers!
i hope this helps even a little bit!!
<3 <3
Close Behind - Noah Kahan  > super lovey / soft aesthetic. vv devoted vibes.
Polaroid - Keith Urban > vv cute plot idea. i used this already but i would use it 8 million more times.
High School Lover - Cayucas > gives me 90s vibes. would be good inspo for a high school age fic / imagine. flirty but not necessarily super serious. definitely a youthful relationship vibe.
Maine - Noah Kahan > my current fave. a song about reflecting on the early years of a relationship. could be either happy or sad, depending on how you choose to listen
One of Them Girls - Lee Brice > a bad-ass girl anthem tbh. good for an empowered female main character.
17 - Julia Michaels > another good high school inspo song. stan julia michaels or die.
Banana Pancakes - Jack Johnson > rainy days & breakfast dates? yes please!
Hey Lovely - Chance Peña > he basically is saying that he’d give up any material possessions in the world bc all he wants and needs is his love. excuse me while i cry.
Tangerine Skies - Declan J Donovan > kinda bittersweet. one last night of playful, youthful love. could be a salute to a bright future ahead or a farewell to a young love.
Mercy - Brett Young > post-breakup / mid-breakup angst.
Play It Again - Luke Bryan > meet-cute!!
Ribs - Lorde > the woes of growing up. good for platonic or romantic relationships.
18 - One Direction > sweetest love story ever gn streaks.
Greatest Love Story - LANco > okay, one of my faves. the story of a young romance that fizzled when they went their separate ways after high school, but never truly died. they end up together at the end. perfect for any romance and also for soulmate aus.
The Night We Met - Lord Huron > okay angst!! one of my favorite mellow songs. makes me cry every single time.
From the Ground Up - Dan + Shay > very cute love story. mentions the struggles that every relationship goes through, but the promising future that lies ahead.
I Love You So - The Walters > not much to say about this one. really vibey, lovey feeling.
Everything Has Changed - Taylor Swift, Ed Sheeran > i personally would use this one as a friends to lovers trope, but it could be used in a number of ways.
Come Dancing - The Kinks > honestly a happy song, but makes me a bit sad. could be used for a happy, youthful story, but also highlights the way things change over time.
When You’re Ready - Shawn Mendes > pining !!!! oh my lord, this is practically a pining anthem. basically, shawn sings about how he knows that this girl is his soulmate, so he has no problem waiting for her. could be good for a friends to lovers trope.
Fine By Me - Andy Grammer  > honestly just a genuine, happy love song.
Hurt - Lady Antebellum  > big angst. super sad post-breakup song, a bit of pining.
Send My Love (To Your New Lover) - Adele  > lost relationship on good terms. bittersweet. possibly angst?
Swoon - Beach Weather > a hidden gem of a song. good for an alternate-aesthetic kind of love. gives me teen movie, beachy vibes.
Hoodie - Hey Violet > post-breakup with a chance for reconciliation. def still in love with each other but too stubborn to admit it.
Settle Down Easy - Rebelution > honestly just a vibey love song. good vibes all around
I Won’t Say (I’m in Love) - from “Hercules” > okay this one is a classic but come on. we all love stubborn main characters who don’t want to admit when they have a fat crush on someone. use this song more. please.
Slow Dance In A Parking Lot - Jordan Davis > my. favorite. song. super cute, pure romance. just spontaneous adventures and being smitten. use this shit rn.
Favorite T-Shirt - Jake Scott > a bit of the physical yet still PG relationship things. hot and heavy kissing and sharing clothes. honestly pretty cute. we have no choice but to stan.

He’s All That: Influencer Addison Rae Helms a Cast of Familiar Faces
https://ift.tt/eA8V8J
For Gen-X viewers, He’s All That is a story we’ve seen before: Pygmalion or My Fair Lady, but updated with cultural references, settings, and technology that make the story of the lesson behind the plot—that the person you are is more important than the image you put forth—more connected to a modern audience. But digital natives who have grown up with as much with TikTok as with teen movie tropes will have a far richer experience, recognizing the cast not only as actors, but as the same influencers they’re playing.
From director Mark Waters, this update, a gender-bent response to 1999’s iconic She’s All That, features a young influencer who, due to the live broadcast of a messy breakup with her budding rock-star boyfriend, loses her sponsorship (and is outed as the poor girl she truly is). The only way to get her sponsor back and save face is to prove she’s the makeover queen, able to make over any boy at their school the way she sculpted her ex’s image.
While the cast features a number of familiar faces and voices, this is not only Addison Rae’s film, it’s her first film. As her character Padgett Sawyer, the real-world TikTok celeb leads the familiar story through all the right beats, accompanied by pop-up chat windows and emojis that represent the presence of social media in the lives of all but Cameron Kweller (played by Tanner Buchanan), the object of Padgett’s make-over efforts.
Here’s a look at the cast, including some blink-or-you’ll-miss-it cameos of other influencers among the cast members…

Addison Rae as Padgett Sawyer
Although this is Rae’s first full-length feature, she is no stranger to the camera. She began her career as a dancer, who in 2019 launched a TikTok channel featuring her dance takes on popular songs. At only 20, the Louisiana celeb is worth over $5 million and has more than 83.4 million followers on TikTok (far more than her character in the film). Rae has her own merchandise line, but has also endorsed brands including Chantilly Boutique, Cheapskate, FashionNova, McCrary Jewelers, and Uptown. (It seems doubtful that she relies on any of them for corporate sponsorship, the way Padgett relies on sponsor Bunny Venom, given her per-video payout rate on TikTok and the reports of what she brings in monthly on YouTube.)
Character Padgett is known for her makeover how-tos (some of which give bad advice, such as using toothpaste to reduce pimples), and in fact Rae’s very first YouTube video was showing how to do hair and makeup. Another is a Q&A with her 2020 flame, Bryce Hall. But more of her videos on both YouTube and TikTok feature music, and in addition to the requisite teen movie dance numbers featured in He’s All That, Rae does an excellent karaoke in the film with co-star Buchanan.

A post shared by Bryce Hall (@brycehall)
Bryce Hall‘s Cameo
Speaking of Bryce Hall, Rae’s fellow TikTok star (21 million followers) makes a cameo in the film. Hall’s career as an influencer began when he livestreaming on YouTube at age 15 in an effort to make friends after being bullied. The social media influencer moved from Maryland to Los Angeles and joined TalentX Entertainment’s Sway House to create content for multiple platforms.
In the film, Hall has no lines, but commiserates with Padgett’s ex, Jordan Van Draanen (Peyton Meyer) about girls. In the scene, Van Draanen soulfully mourns that the girl he dumped Padgett for has ghosted him, then asks his friends (including Hall) if they caught all that on camera. (By the time of the film release, Hall and Rae were no longer together, which may make viewers curious how Hall now feels about that scene…)

A post shared by Spencer X (@iamspencerx)
Spencer X as the DJ
TikTok viewers may also catch the cameo of Beatboxer Spencer X as the DJ behind the karaoke competition. With over 54 million followers, the sound effects champ (who includes the label Mouth Music Man on his site) also has two singles of beatboxing and remixed vocals available on Spotify.

A post shared by Kourtney Kardashian (@kourtneykardash)
Kourtney Kardashian as Jessica Miles Torres
While Kardashian needs no introduction, this real-life friend of Rae’s takes on the role of Padgett’s sponsor, an exec at Bunny Venom, who fires Padgett when her image goes wrong. Kardashian became a reality star in 2007’s Keeping up with the Kardashians and is involved in fashion along with her sisters. Due to her popular presence on social media, Kardashian is regularly compensated by brands for featuring their products in her posts. She has also helmed the lifestyle website, Poosh.

A post shared by Tanner Buchanan Official (@tannerbuchananofficial)
Tanner Buchanan as Cameron Kweller
Coming from a more traditional acting background, Buchanan plays an artist who has no interest in the falseness of the high school world (and gives out sage words of wisdom)–though deep inside, he’s still mourning the loss of his mother and feel disconnected from his family and friends until Padgett breaks through his armor. Viewers might recognize him from TV series like Game Shakers or Designated Survivor, but the martial arts skills he shows off in He’s All That might be better attributed to the set of Cobra Kai, another Netflix production (after its first two seasons on YouTube Red) in which he plays Robby Keene.
Peyton Meyer and Madison Pettis
Padgett has two antagonists in the film: ex Jordan Van Draanen (Meyer) and rich girl frenemy Alden (Madison Pettis). Meyer is known for Girl Meets World and American Housewife, while Pettis made her name as Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson’s daughter in The Game Plan on the Disney Channel. If her voice is familiar, it may be because the He’s All That mean girl also played animated characters including Izzy in Jake and the Neverland Pirates and Zuri in The Lion Guard.
Myra Molloy and Annie Jacob
This 2021 update to the classic teen movie features a secondary romance between two queer girls of color—Padgett and Cameron’s besties who hit it off, despite their social strata differences. LEGO fan Nisha is played by Annie Jacob, known for her role as Glory Moffett on Motherland: Fort Salem. Sweetheart rich girl Quinn is played by relative newcomer Myra Molloy.
Matthew Lillard as Principal Bosch
In the 1999 film She’s All That, Lillard played an obnoxious reality star who steals the girlfriend of the main character, played by Freddie Prinze Jr (also Lillard’s co-star in Scooby Doo). Lillard isn’t shown for most of He’s All That, as only his voice is featured for the majority of the movie, until the final scene, in which he’s revealed to be the principal of the high school.
Rachel Leigh Cook as Anna Sawyer
She’s All That lead star Cook comes back not as her original character, but as Padgett’s mom, who is a nurse working hard to keep them in the best school district. As the film comes to a close, a remix of the song “Kiss Me” plays at the school dance–a direct call back to the original film, which used that as the main theme. Cook’s recent Love, Guaranteed was another Netflix Original.
cnx.cmd.push(function() { cnx({ playerId: "106e33c0-3911-473c-b599-b1426db57530", }).render("0270c398a82f44f49c23c16122516796"); });
While He’s All That offers no surprises, the cameos and callbacks to the original film make this teen movie enjoyable as exactly what it is: a familiar tale with the usual happy ending, updated for a new audience.

THE LYNN SHELTON TV FESTIVAL
Last year Lynn Shelton died and I started this post and never published it.
She was a wonderful & compassionate director of lovely movies and funny TV shows (GLOW, Parks, Mad Men, etc!). My idea was I would re-watch one episode she directed of some of the shows I have watched over the years and write something about each one.
1.
“Ladies and Gentlemen,” Master Of None
(In which Dev gets radicalized in feminism by his female coworkers and accidentally allies his way out of an acting job.)
The gender politics of this episode are mostly so basic that it somehow already feels like a period piece. But there’s a moment toward the end where Aziz dismisses a sexist microaggression pointed out by Noel Wells and it spirals into a fight between them, and it feels very real and authentic. Also the scene where Aziz & Lena Waithe perform a “citizen’s arrest” on the subway is very funny.
2.
“Hands and Knees,” Mad Men
(In which Don forces Pete to terminate a deal with North American Aviation and Joan nearly terminates a pregnancy.)
Sometimes I forget how good Mad Men was. It’s also amazing how characters come across so differently absent context. For instance, Lane Pryce is such a shithead in this episode! And Pete Campbell is communicative with his wife and then takes a huge bullet for Don! People have good days and bad days. It’s so hard to know what a person contributes to a TV show as a director, but Lynn Shelton’s movies regard all people so compassionately, and I feel it here, too.
3. “Injured,” New Girl
(In which Nick has a health scare.)
This episode has a Beach House song and June Diane Raphael — the indie score is already off the charts. It plays out like a short film more than a TV show, with two long, luxuriously paced scenes at the bar and then the beach in Santa Monica. Jake Johnson and Lynn Shelton are both also associated with Joe Swanberg, and all three of them very explicitly used TV projects to fund their passion-project movies. New Girl paid for so much art! Which isn’t to say it wasn’t itself a pretty funny show.
4. “You’re My Gran Torino,” LOVE
(In which Gus & Mickey argue about taking a trip together and then come back together after a concert.)
OF COURSE Lynn Shelton directed one of my favorite episodes of this show, which features an extended performance by Gus’s band “Roger and The Eberts.” The montage of fake movie theme songs is so funny, and an excellent payoff to a running gag throughout the series. But again, like Master Of None— it’s the scenes where a couple realistically sorts through a conflict that resonate most strongly with me.
5. “The Liberal Chokehold,” GLOW
(In which the cast struggles to fund their pilot episode.)
I see now that Lynn Shelton had a way of inserting breathing room into crowded spaces. GLOW is one of those shows that feels both very short and very long most of the time, and it’s amazing how particularly short the “fundraiser” set piece at the end of this episode is. There’s a lot of space between thoughts and yet we move rapidly from moment to moment. There’s a twist involving Marc Maron’s character at the end that I genuinely never saw coming and was so delighted by the first time I watched this. GLOW was such a positive force— I loved this show.

This is an annual feature that runs a little differently from the rest on LGBTQReads, as the post builds on itself each year and new titles/sections are added with asterisks. These books are all queer titles by Black authors, the vast majority of which star Black main characters. (Obviously this isn’t remotely exhaustive.)
Sites
Sistahs on the Shelf – SotS is run by Rena, a Black lesbian who reviews Black lesbian books. You can also follow on Twitter at @SotS!
WoC in Romance – this is a site highlighting all Romance written by WoC, but there’s a page just for LGBTQ Romances. It’s run by Rebekah Weatherspoon, whose name you may recognize as being a prolific author of LGBTQ lit herself! You can follow on Twitter at @WOCInRomance, and make sure you check out their Patreon; link is in the pinned tweet!
Black Lesbian Literary Collective – To nab from their site, “The Black Lesbian Literary Collective creates a nurturing and sustainable environment for Black lesbian and queer women of color writers.” Looking for more reviews of Black lesbian fic? Ta da! The site is new, so it’s not packed with posts just yet, but there is already an active radio show linked to it. Find them on Twitter at @LezWriters.
The Brown Bookshelf – this is a site dedicated to Black kidlit; here are the posts that come up if you search LGBT.

Life & Style, January 4
You can buy a copy of this issue for your very own at my eBay store: https://www.ebay.com/str/bradentonbooks
Cover: Brad Pitt destroys Angelina Jolie after her affair with Johnny Depp is exposed
Tumblr media
Page 1: Photo Flash -- it’s been just under four months since Simon Cowell underwent six hours of surgery after breaking his back in an electric bike accident forcing him to cancel all his work duties for the rest of the year but you wouldn’t know it to look at him -- on his annual tropical vacation with his family to Barbados Simon appeared to have made a full recovery as he took to the water on a jet ski
Page 2: Contents
Tumblr media
Page 4: The top 10 red looks -- Dove Cameron, Meghan Markle, Scarlett Johansson, Maya Rudolph, Danai Gurira
Page 5: Emma Mackey, Ciara, Kathryn Hahn, Daisy Ridley, Kat Graham
Page 6: Britney Spears’ father Jamie Spears is speaking out amid his ongoing legal battle with Britney, saying he loves his daughter very much and noting that he hasn’t spoken to Britney since August when she requested to have him officially removed from her conservatorship -- he added when a family member needs special care and protection families need to step up as he has done for the last 12-plus years to safeguard and protect and continue to love Britney unconditionally -- while Jamie’s attorney insists that he and Britney have a normal father-daughter relationship insofar as there has always been mutual love and respect for each other Britney’s legal team claims that Britney is afraid of her father and will not perform as long as he is in charge of her career
Page 7: Nicole Kidman is earning rave reviews for her role in the hit drama The Undoing and Reese Witherspoon can’t stand it -- the last episode of The Undoing drew in the network’s biggest audience since Big Little Lies’ season 2 finale and there’s already talk of Nicole sweeping awards season -- tensions between the two leading ladies threatened to boil over in 2018 when Nic won an Emmy and a Golden Globe for BLL beating out her co-star Reese both times and to make matters worse Nicole recently signed on to star in a new show based on BLL author Liane Moriarty’s book Nine Perfect Strangers without Reese -- Nicole and Reese used to be the best of friends but now they barely talk and it’s only a matter of time until they stop speaking altogether
* Throwback -- Jordin Sparks
* Biggest Spenders of the Week -- Ellen DeGeneres, Tom Brady, Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds
Page 8: Ben Affleck is no stranger to getting inked -- he has five tattoos including a phoenix rising from the ashes on his back and a dolphin on his hip but when he asked girlfriend Ana de Armas to go under the needle she told him no way -- Ben wanted Ana to get a small tattoo but she refused and she would do almost anything for him except get a tattoo because her family would kill her
* Armie Hammer and Rumer Willis have called it quits over his refusal to commit -- the two were first linked in September shortly after he split from his wife of 10 years Elizabeth Chambers but Rumer wanted something more serious but Armie wasn’t ready to settle down
Page 10: The Week in Photos -- Prince William and Duchess Kate Middleton treated Prince George and Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis to a special pantomime performance at London’s historic Palladium theater
Page 11: Kelly Clarkson congratulated The Voice contestant Desz on making it to the Top 5, Brooke Burke filmed a challenge for her app in Malibu
Page 12: Cameron Mathison was joined by his daughter Leila while hosting Hallmark’s Home & Family
Page 13: Rebel Wilson at the Rockefeller Center ice rink, Bethenny Frankel and her pups Biggy and Smallz by the Christmas tree
Page 14: Hailee Steinfeld and Jeremy Renner on the set of their upcoming series Hawkeye
Page 16: Stars Behaving Badly -- Selling Sunset’s Christine Quinn left little to the imagination stripping down for a Playboy shoot at the famous Chateau Rose in Bel Air, Blake Shelton used a safety cone as a megaphone on the set of The Voice, Malin Akerman couldn’t resist jumping on the bed at a Hotel Style collection event in NYC
Page 18: Say What?! Garcelle Beauvais on filming The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills, Rumer Willis on father Bruce Willis’ baby boy dreams after welcoming five daughters, Dolly Parton who turns 75 in January, Meghan Trainor on refusing to get intimate with husband Daryl Sabara during her pregnancy, Jason Momoa on his go-to form of exercise
Page 20: Dakota Johnson was seen sporting a massive emerald stone while out shopping in L.A. sparking speculation that she is engaged to Chris Martin -- there’s no big announcement yet but Chris has quietly proposed and he and Dakota already act like a married couple and they’re excited about finally making it official -- Chris’ children with Gwyneth Paltrow Apple and Moses really like Dakota and will obviously be an important part of their special day and there’s a good chance that Gwyneth who couldn’t be happier about the engagement will be invited to the wedding too
Page 21: Cardi B is giving her marriage to Offset another shot -- she filed for divorce in September after growing tired of not seeing things eye to eye but withdrew the petition without prejudice a few weeks later and now that they’ve rekindled their love she’s asked her husband to renew their wedding vows -- Cardi wants Offset to recommit to their marriage and she wants him to do it for them and for their daughter Kulture so that her little girl can see just how much her parents truly love each other
Page 22: Cover Story -- Brad Pitt gets revenge after Angelina Jolie’s alleged affair with Johnny Depp is exposed -- as his custody battle with Angie drags on Brad might have Johnny to thank for giving him a path to victory -- Brad always suspected something may have gone on between Johnny and Angie when they were making 2010′s The Tourist at a time when they were two of the sexiest and most successful movie stars in Hollywood
Page 26: Kim Kardashian and Kanye West separate lives -- after six years of marriage Kim and Kanye are barely interacting -- Kim is focused on her own projects and on raising the children and Kanye’s interests don’t align with hers anymore -- Kanye is thoughtful and does nice things for Kim but there is no real chemistry or romance left in their marriage; the spark is no longer there -- while Kanye obsessed over Kim for years before they became an item his love and attention as well as hers is now trained on their four kids
Page 28: Cameron Diaz: This is the happiest time in my life -- with her acting days behind her Cameron feels fulfilled at last -- a lot of people do it the other way around ...they get married and have a family in their youth Cameron notes but she’s doing it in the second half of her life -- Cam says she cooked every single meal for Benji Madden and Raddix during the first four months of quarantine and loved it; they’re her everything
Page 30: Royal TV War -- Duchess Kate Middleton and Prince William seem poised to steal Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s spotlight -- Will and Kate want to branch out and expanding their media reach with The Earthshot Prize is just a springboard for them and there are a host of projects they’d like to get off the ground including giving people a more down-to-earth picture of what their life is like behind closed doors -- The Earthshot Prize which will award five monetary prizes each year for the next 10 years launched with Cate Blanchett and Sir Richard Attenborough and Shakira already signed on as judges and Will and Kate aren’t done recruiting stars though and they like the idea of teaming up more formally with personalities they respect and admire and exploring the world of documentaries and streaming platforms and radio broadcasts and other aspects of the internet is the perfect way to do that  -- royal family members were said to have raised eyebrows over Meghan and Harry’s deal with Netflix so the couple now finds it surprising and suspicious that Will and Kate are following their lead and there’s a potential for fireworks if they step on each other’s toes
Page 32: Who Lives Here? Leslie Jones
Page 36: Fashion -- 2020 Style Recap -- all about loungewear and masks -- with no red carpets to attend Hollywood hit pause on glam and embraced comfort in sweats and athleisurewear -- Vanessa Hudgens, Hilary Duff, Hailey Baldwin, Alessandra Ambrosio, Addison Rae

A must-see for any fan. A good capture overall. There is one head that blocks the actors from the waist down in the center of the stage. There is a three-minute blackout during The Schuyler Puppets and a three minute blackout during the finale, as well as a couple other quick dropouts. A bunch of clips from the opening night of Sweeney Todd in Manila! Shot 3rd row at the balcony. I shot more but they were too zoomed in that they’re more likely to be considered audio so I decided not to include them. I was very near the usher and they were really strict. The phone was in my jacket pocket so I couldn’t see anything and I was scared of getting caught, so a lot is very zoomed and I’m really sorry about that. I absolutely loved the set, it was reimagined into a more modern almost gangster like setting. Shot in 4k on my phone. Please gift out to anyone who asks. Counting Down My Top 10 Underrated Films Of The Decade
Let me start by saying it’s a fucking miracle I made this list because I’ve switched and changed it so many times I got whiplash. I really hope you love this list because it took months and months to make this. It’s so sad writing this because I love these movies so much I wish everyone saw them! I decided to cut this list down to ten because I might take the left over movies and throw them on a list in 2020 because I can’t focus on this to save my life. I’m posting this on Christmas Eve as a gift to all of you who follow this blog. To be honest these last like 4 months my mental health has been so bad I’ve barely left the house so this is one of the only things that’s been keeping me together. Anyone who reads this blog, you give me a reason to live and create and I love influencing y’all to watch my shows lmao. Happy holidays to anyone who’s having a shit time at home or has lost a loved one or has been having a bad time mentally. This list may not be the best to lift spirits but my top animated of the decade probably will which you can read here! Love y’all so much hope you enjoy your present! Usually I would say there are spoilers but since many people haven’t watched these I’m going to put where to watch them so enjoy these amazing but very vaguely described movies! Kisses! Oh and one last thing, the average Rotten Tomatoes score between all these movies is 85.2%!
10. Atomic Blonde (2017)
Tumblr media
I saw this in theaters and it was quite the experience with all the twist and turns this film has. Atomic Blonde not only has a top tier cast but it’s also one of the best spy movies ever made. I don’t wanna give anything away but can you really go wrong with Charlize Theron, James McAvoy, Sofia Butella, and Bill Skarsgård? Don’t think so!
Where to watch: Anywhere you can buy or rent films
9. Anna Karenina (2012)
Tumblr media
Directed by Joe Wright, the brilliant mind behind Atonement, Anna Karenina brings the famed novel to life in this romantic and dazzling rendition. I really thought this movie would be racking up the awards when it came out but it didn’t. Either way this film about a 19th century woman (Keira Knightley) who has a lustrous affair with a cavalry officer (Aaron Taylor-Johnson) is hot and just beautiful to look at. If you like period piece films you’ll love this!
Where to watch: Anywhere you can buy or rent films
8. Widows (2018)
Tumblr media
This movie about a heist gone wrong that leaves the men’s widows to finish the job should’ve won an Oscar for ANYTHING. I mean Viola Davis running a lady gang to finish their husbands crimes!?! The FLAVOR!!! Please watch it there’s one scene in it with Daniel Kaluuya that is literally the definition of CINEMA.
Where to watch: HBO Now, HBO Go, and anywhere you can buy or rent films
7. Annihilation (2018)
Tumblr media
Ok I can’t say much about this movie besides that it’s sci-fi and that it has Oscar winning actress Natalie Portman movie in it but please please please PLEASE watch this movie! It’s one of the best sci-fi films I’ve ever seen and it’s honestly one of the best films that came out in 2018! I wrote a little about it here!
Where to watch: Hulu and anywhere you can buy or rent films
6. Nightcrawler (2014)
Tumblr media
Lou Bloom (Jake Gyllenhaal) is a news reporter who likes to get a little too close to the action. It’s insane to watch just how far he goes to get a story. He is actually a sociopath and Jake should’ve won or at least been nominated for an Oscar for this role. It may be one of his best performances ever!
Where to watch: Amazon Prime and anywhere you can buy or rent films
5. Prisoners (2013)
Tumblr media
When two girls go missing a father (Hugh Jackman) does everything in his power to get them back. The ending of this film is so fucking annoying but genius I still argue about it wigg my friend claire. Please let me know if you know what I’m talking about! Also this movie should fuking have 7 Oscars!!!
Where to watch: Anywhere you can buy or rent films
4. Ex Machina (2014)
Tumblr media
When a programmer (Domhnall Gleeson) wins a contest to spend the week with the company’s genius CEO (Oscar Isaac) he gets a lot more than he bargained for when he meets Ava (Alicia Vikander) the robot. All I’m gonna say is it should be illegal to have not seen this movie. Like should be a federal crime. I know this is on Netflix so watch it NOW!
Where to watch: Netflix and anywhere you can buy or rent films
3. Logan (2017)
Tumblr media
The last chapter in Wolverine’s tale is not only riveting but surprisingly heartbreaking. I watched this on the plane ride to Vegas and I sobbed I ain’t gonna lie! If you love the X-Men you’ll absolutely love, or maybe hate, this Oscar winning super hero movie.
Where to watch: Anywhere you can buy or rent films
2. The Place Beyond the Pines (2012)
Tumblr media
It’s kind of hard to believe that a movie with Bradley Cooper and Ryan Gosling didn’t get much buzz but here I am giving it the justice it deserves! This movie that’s basically a lesson in karma and breaking the cycle of familial bullshit is one of the best and most heartbreaking films I’ve ever seen. It also features a career defining performance by Dane Dehaan. I won’t give anything away but I suggest y’all watch pronto!
Where to watch: Netflix and anywhere you can buy or rent films
1. Looper (2012)
Tumblr media
This time traveling mindfuck of a movie never left me the second I finished it. I really wish I saw this in theaters cause I feel like it would have been epic. I don’t wanna give anything away because I really want people to watch it but if you love time travel, twists and Joseph Gordon Levitt this is the movie for you. Looper is number one because I’ve been begging people to watch it for about 7 years now.

chapter 1 - It’s been a month since the accident. You and Carter are still navigating what that means for your everyday lives when a call from your doctor changes everything.
chapter 2 - Things are starting to trend positively in your recovery. You’re feeling things you haven’t felt since the accident. In a twist of events, a secret about Carter helps lead you to a decision about the future of your relationship.
chapter 3 - A secret is revealed that you’ve been sworn to secrecy on. More secrets about Carter’s desires in your relationship come forth, thanks to Ryanne. If it wasn’t for the fact that you were at the arena, you’d have an internal crisis.
chapter 4 - Shayne and Brian vaguely allude you to something that the team has been hiding from you and Carter. Deciding to keep Carter in the dark leads to a declaration from him that echoes through the arena.
chapter 5 - You share the good news about your injury with Claude before heading home with Carter. Things get interesting at supper which leads to some fun in the bedroom.
chapter 6 - At your appointment with Dr. Owen, you explain to her what you’ve been feeling. She refers you to a physiotherapist to hopefully help you regain more mobility and feeling. Carter takes you to lunch when the appointment is over and you get two surprises.
chapter 7 - You and Carter unwind at home and have a little fun. Something miraculous happens while Carter is in the shower and you rush to show him. As you’re falling asleep for the night, you realize something that makes you smile.
