technically my school had a dress code but the teachers barely enforced it. we weren't supposed to show our midriffs but I wore crop tops all the time anyway. I mostly had male teachers and they never wanted to dress code me bc they didn't want to come off as weird, so only the female teachers would try to dress code me but even then I made sure to wear a cardigan so I'd just button it up to appease them and then unbutton it the second i left the class lol

weird rule we did have though was no PDA. couples couldn't kiss or even hold hands in the hallway. except the thing was my school was really about being progressive and accepting, so the teachers NEVER wanted to scold queer couples. they only ever reported the straight couples for PDA, meanwhile the queer kids would literally make out in the hallways and teachers wouldn't say shit because they didn't wanna be seen as homophobic 😭 it was so funny my school was just unintentionally heterophobic

Ok listen I am not one for nonconsensual public confession but know your audience, Tien is a perpetually invisible middle child who is not afraid of public attention and he is a film major, Lomfon making him a film to illustrate his feelings got me emotional, and him then also saying them out loud!! Because my boy learns from his own and others' mistakes, yesssss.

The Perfect Apology

I was so ready for Tai to suffer from the bed of his own making this episode, and I was not sure four days of searching was going to be enough. But that apology was PERFECT. He apologized first, he explained exactly what he did wrong, and he fixed it by saying his feelings aloud, finally! I was braced for the show to let him get away with not saying it, but he did. AND the show did us one better by giving us the explanation that he was parroting his parents' bullshit, which is such a real thing and it is difficult to catch yourself doing it, so the fact that he recognized it displayed his growth before the apology too. Just, all around this was so perfectly constructed and I was so pleased. Hell yes.

Best Brothers Being Best

Honestly Tien could have just said "unfuck it" to Tai again in that phone call and it would have rolled up to the same thing lol I really do love how their relationship was rock solid through this entire show, even when romance was potentially a threat. They have such a good sibling dynamic, one of the best I've seen in any show, and it makes me happy whenever Tien and Tai interact.

It also had a few things that I didn't love:

Awkward Logistics

This is maybe not a big deal because Tai is a writer but he works in a job that requires him to be in the office at least occasionally and Patts just started setting up a new vet clinic in Chiang Mai. Is Tai going to leave his friends and family to work remotely and live in Chiang Mai with Patts? Are they going to have to work out their relationship anew long distance? This is going to suck a little bit, and the adult in me could not help but notice and have it damper my joy. That being said, it was something Patts said he was thinking about for awhile so maybe it's something that would have come up anyway in future.

Patts Now Believes in Soulmates

Honestly, this was the biggest damper for me and I wish they hadn't included it (but maybe they had to for the sequel, IDK). Patts originally was willing to try with Nara because he didn't think the soulmate thing could dictate his emotions and he loved her, but she would not believe him. He also was willing to try with Tai before realizing that they were soulmates. And he told Tai that he would have wanted to try a relationship with him whether or not they were soulmates. So why now are we told that he suddenly thinks he can only love his soulmate for the rest of his life? This is not just anti-narrative, but anti-Patts' previous statements. I get that he was hurting and predisposed to be melodramatic in that moment, but it was a weird statement to include.

Tien's Turn for Drama

I KNEW this was going to happen! They spent too much time making it a big deal that Tai was the only sibling with hearing loss during rain. I just want my best boy to be happy for five minutes! Considering these characters, and what Tien's already said about what he would do if given this choice, I could see this plot being interesting. Especially because Tien had to suffer, now it's Lomfon's turn, maybe. But still, just let me have this cuteness for a little longer, show!

But all of that is relatively minor and honestly what we got was so good I can forgive and forget all of it.

Red White & Royal Blue by Casey McQuiston

Wow. Just wow. This book was so full of laughter and love and nonsense that it almost tunes out the important things that are mentioned.

Although there was so much nonsense in it, the real problem will never be forgotten. Henry and Alex almost had to deny their identities, their sexualities, themselves. Almost. Society took their outings from them. Social Media made them the hottest topic in the world. They had to endure slander, not only from strangers but also from their families, especially Henry. There was so much wrong in the last part of the book that it made me question why humans had to invent cellphones and social media with it. It made me question if this would've happened in a time where social media and all the techniques were nonexistent. Where people communicated through letters rather than messages on phones or posts on social media.

I almost had a mental breakdown because the Queen asked Henry to deny himself, to change his identity and to lie to the rest of the world. The book shows us that we need to stay true to ourselves in hopes that it'll all work out eventually. There was so much hope and also so much sadness which made it into a good book. There have to be two sides to make a story good.

For one, Alex discovered his sexuality and his parents had the reaction every queer person would want to get from their family.

For another, Henry's family partly didn't agree with him being gay but eventualy realized that they couldn't do anything against it but then still tried to make it up to him, to help him. That's real character improvement.

Oh and on the Marauder aspect: Shaan and Zhara are definitely Rosekiller. I mean, come on, they helped Henry and Alex with their relationship and basically knew everything before someone else did and were extremely cool while doing so. I had some struggle with naming the AlexHenry relationship because they have so many faces. It was pretty clear to me that Henry absolutely needed to be a member of the Black family. So maybe Jegulus? But then I realized that Alex was also really mean to Henry so James maybe wasn't a fit for him but Remus was. Maybe wolfstar? And then it accured to me that in Crimson Rivers by bizarrestars, Alphard and Elijah had a relationship and that Henry and Alex are the perfect fit for them and I can't see otherwise. So Alphard and Elijah. By the way, do they have a shipname?

On that note: I want to write a book where everyone (or most of the people) is heterophobic just to relieve my anger about how unfair it is that heterosexuality is called 'being normal'.

Presenting the project that made me heterophobic:

Yep! I am the dork that painted the masks of our current five boys over the course of three-four days (easier to space than six would be and lets face it, I do not care for kurlzz). I chose the Notes from the Underground masks because I've realized that it's the album that most of my favorite songs thus far come from. I quickly began regretting my decision at the point where I realized exactly how limited my paint options were and how many cool colors I would need. More details for each mask below (going bottom to top).

Danny's mask looks almost nothing like the actual one mostly because I painted the circles first and did not realize the mask was more angular than I initially thought. I also had no gold, so we've got a lovely yellow mixed with tan for the base color. The bullets are rough but also smaller than you'd think and a basic brush set from Michaels does not, as I have learned, have super tiny brushes, so I did the best I could on the casings. I am proud of the fact that I tried to make the rust work as best as I could, and if you look really closely, you can even see the mesh in the eyes (looks a little clearer on the left eye). The smirk is present on the right side and I do think it's decently recognizable.

This one made me cry. Any criticism of the fire around the eyes will be met with the response to suck dick because, to be quite frank, I challenge anyone to do better at 1 am and remain disturbingly proud of them. I'm kinda sad that my green (mixed from blue and yellow, because my budget is two pennies and all previous supplies) dried up early cause I was hoping to get more of the Louis Vuitton-style details, but still pretty damn good. I think the pyramid and the canisters turned out nice. Also, a little bit of a cat-eye shape for the eyeholes and the fire, but that was deliberate and I will not be ashamed of it in my moment of pride (I will undoubtedly feel the shame within five minutes of posting, but that is a problem for future me).

A fun an interesting fact is that this is the second time I've done this particular mask of J3T, and both times I have realized I love doing the butterfly. It's super fun because as long as we get the basic swirls in, it's alright if they don't match length perfectly. The cracks are slightly off because the very first ones were free-handed, but I did my best to get the rest of them proper, and they even work to form the nose. Apparently the orange looks more yellow than I thought.

This one was a welcome relief after crying over the detailing of J-Dog's mask. Again, no metallic colors, so our silver is grey. The little black lines are there to add texture to the edges (as it turns out, none of my brushes added it in a sufficiently noticeable way), and this one looks the cleanest imo.

Last but not least, Charlie's bandanna (sunglasses painted over because, as it turns out, I continue to suck at painting and drawing glasses). The buildings are likely not accurate to the actual picture, but my reference photo did not show the actual city on the bandana so I just did some buildings, a fancy lil' LA and we're calling it an artistic interpretation. Also, check out that S. Coolest S I will ever draw in my life, got it right on the first try.

Anyways sorry that I didn't post this sooner cause I technically finished all of this yesterday evening, I have a flight soon so I am typing this up at 4:30 am at the airport.

I was watching one of Cody Ko’s videos in which he reacts to a wlw addition of the speed dating show, The Button, and the video itself was fine, but the comments on it are atrocious.

So many people in the comments come off as radfems with their creepy glorification of women, as well as their heterophobia and misandry. They’re claiming that the contestants are kind, respectful, and polite to each other because they’re women and no men are involved, as well as acting as if LGBT relationships are wholesome by default (which isn’t even true). Luckily, some people called them out on this, but they still think that being minorities justifies their shitty attitudes. This doesn’t surprise me since over the years, I’ve noticed that Cody has really toxic misandrist and heterophobic fans for some reason (which is weird as fuck since he’s a chill straight man lmfao). But anyway, I just wish people would stop making ignorantly bigoted generalizations like this (and stop throwing around the q slur while they’re at it).

Fr acting like LGBT people can’t be toxic or abusive or even just plain assholes just enables LGBT people who are.

Fall of the School for Good and Evil by Soman Chainani

So the book is a prequel of the original series but is a sequel to the origin story of the School for Good and Evil.

It was quite interesting and partly confusing because so much happened and basically everyone betrayed everyone. I wouldn't say that this book is better than the original series but damn, it explains quite a lot. Also, the story of three School Masters is really original and unexpected, so that was a mind blowing event.

But most importantly, the book shows that one can neither be Good or Evil. A human being always carries good and evil with itself and only specific situations decide which side one wants to show. As we can see at the example of Rhian and Rafal, no one can predict which one of them is good and which one of them is evil. Humans are morally grey. Period.

The ending really killed me, not because of the plottwist but because of Rhian being a gay icon. Like: "A 'she'?! That would be Evil's love indeed!' Excuse me? Is there someone heterophobic? And as concerning it may sound: He's right. It is not only pride month and I am obligated to be heterophobic but in my opinion, being accepted into society should be as hard for straight people as it is hard for queer people. I mean, EQUALITY! Sure, it might not be the right thought but for me, it makes absolute sense. Why shouldn't straight people also come out of their closet to other people instead of just being accepted or instead of just being expected that one is straight? For me, it sounds about right but I'm happy to discuss this topic and get further imput on it so I might change my mind.

All in all, Fall of the SGE was quite an experience but I would recommend it to people who have read the original series because it is just so Soman Chainani and it explains (in my opinion) quite a lot about the original story.
