Princess Hours (2006) Is a modern Cinderella story. It's 24 episodes long. Available on Viki.

Personal Taste (2010) Honestly, problematic plot if you put your mind into it, but entertaining nonetheless. It's 16 episodes long, each one lasting a little over an hour, available on Viki.

Cinderella's Sister (2010) You hate every character, but there's still something that makes you watch it. Available on Viki.

Thank You (2007) was ahead of its time, it's about a single mother with a daughter who has an HIV+ diagnosis. 16 episodes long, each one lasting a little over an hour. Available on Viki.

Stairway to Heaven (2003) for a good melodrama.

What about romantic fantasies involving fantastic beings?

Guardian: The lonely and Great God(2016) A classic of the genre. It tells the story of a God who was once a man, and is being punished by immortality, unless he meets his bride, who just so happens to be a high schooler centuries later. Available on viki. 16 episodes long with 3 specials, all lasting about 75 minutes.

Hotel Del Luna (2019) it would be unfair to talk about Goblin, without talking about this other masterpiece about a being cursed into immortality and granted special availabilities along with it, but a curse is still a curse, and she must run a hotel meant for ghosts, where after centuries of being, meets a young man who is alive. Availability on Viki, 16 episodes long and each one lastz about 75 minutes.

Tale of the Nine Tailed (2020) You get to see Lee Dong Wook as another mystical being, and Kim Bum is his half brother. 16 episodes long and one special, each one lasting about 65 minutes. Available on Viki.

My roommate is a Gumiho (2021) what's up with gumihos? It's still airing. The title is self explanatory. Available on Viki and Qiyi.

Angel's last mission: Love (2019) is a cute and sad story about an angel who is about to ascend and a ballerina who has a cynical view of the world. Available on Viki. Each episode averages 30 minutes, with 32 episodes.

Doom at your service (2021) About to finish airing. It tells the story of a dying woman who wishes doom upon the world, and the doom who answers her plea. Available on viki, 16 episodes long, each one lasting about an hour.

The Scholar Who walks the night (2015) another Lee Joon Gi entry, but I swear all of his works are great, it's a period drama that tells the story of a scholar who is a vampire and the young bookseller he meets. It's 20 episodes long, each one lasting about an hour. Available on viki. Also, if you've liked Lee Soo Hyuk in Doom at Your Service, I advise you check this one out.

Tale of Arang (2012) two Lee Joon Gi entries in a row? Girl, you have to stop. Anyways, this one is another period piece of a magistrate who can see ghosts and the ghost of a young woman who doesn't remember her life, nor the cause of her death. Available on viki, it's 20 episodes long, each one lasting a little over an hour.

Look, those are fine or whatever, but I started as a K-pop fan, where can I see some idol dramas? Don't worry, I came prepared

Full House (2004) with Rain as the main character is the og idol drama in my opinion. Available on Viki. 16 episodes long, each one lasting about 73 minutes.

Imitation (2021) is currently airing, and it's literally an idol drama about idols. You can find a looot of idols too: Jeong Yun Ho and Park Seong Hwa from Ateez, Chani and Hwi Young from SF9, Park Ji Yeon from T-ara, Lim Na Young from I.O.I and Pristin, and although Jeong Ji So is not an idol, she is the main lead, and I absolutely love her, she's also in Doom at your service. Available on Viki.

Miss Panda and Mr. Hedgehog (2012) features Donghae from Super Junior, and if I'm going to recommend a Super Junior drama, I would rather recommend one featuring him over Siwon.

At a Distance the Spring is Green (2021) is currently airing too, and only has four released episodes, but I've liked it so far. Featuring Park Ji Hoon, and Kwon Dun Bin. Also, I have a lot of opinions about this show. Available on Viki.

I was going to put an IU drama but, all her dramas are good, so go and watch them all, the woman has range.

Dream High (2011) is the king of idol dramas, in my opinion. It talksa about a high school for people who want to be idols. Another one with a long line up of idols, so let me start: Suzy, IU, Taecyeon, Nichkhun and Wooyoung from 2PM, Ham Eun Jung from T-ara. Leeteuk (SuJu and Chansung (2PM) make cameos. Similarly to Imitation, Kim Soo Hyun is not an idol, but he's the main lead. It's 16 episodes long, each one lasting about 65 minutes. Available on Viki.

The Queen's Classroom (2013) This one feels like a fever dream, because I'm aware it exists, I watched it back when it first aired, but I can't find it anywhere now. It's based on a Japanese drama of the same name. It's about a strict but warm hearted teacher and her students' lives and struggles. 16 episodes long. DM me if you find anywhere to watch it.

1% of Something (2016) is a really cute drama, the chemistry is off the charts, and if you're looking for skinship, this one is the one for you, underrated arranged marriage kdrama, I'm telling you. It's 16 episodes long, averaging 45 minutes, and it's on Viki.

I'm not a Robot (2017) has a really cute plot, not underrated per se, but not hyped enough. It's 32 episodes long, each one averaging 30 minutes. Available on Viki.

Do you like Brahms? (2020) is a music themed kdrama, really cute and wholesome. If you like 2setviolin and watched their critique on their YouTube channel, let me tell you, the cast actually knows how to play violin and stuff, and there's an actual child prodigy in there. It got so much hate bc of that one yt video. It's 16 episode long, each one lasting about an hour. Available on Viki.

Solomon's Perjury (2016) a good reflection on youth and the pressure society has. 12 episodes long, lasting about 63 minutes each. Available on Viki.

The Greatest Love (2011) is a super entertaining TV show, and just supper funny and cute. 16 episodes long, each one lasting around 65 minutes. Available on Viki.

Two Cops (2017) if you like Kim Seon Ho, I think this was his TV acting debut. It's a hilarious action comedy TV show. 32 episodes long, lasting around 30 minutes. Available on viki.

Do you have any recommendations where time traveling or time is central to the story?

Alice (2020) look, I can't give you a full explanation because it's too mind bending. Let's leave it at detective meets his mother. Available on Viki.

Signal (2016) The premise is similar to that of the movie Frequency (2000) in which there's communication between the past and the present via technology. The plot is based on the real Hwaseong serial murders. Really interesting. Available on Netflix. If you like the premise of communicating with the past via technology Call (2020) is a Korean thriller movie available on Netflix.

Chicago Typewriter (2017) this one is about reincarnation but we get to see both timelines. Available on Netflix.

Tomorrow with you (2017) Time-traveling but make it ✨depressing ✨. The story of a man who time travels, and how that ability messes with his marriage. Available on Netflix.

What about historical dramas? I don't really watch those, but here are some I liked

The Moon Embracing the Sun (2012) is one of the few I've finished. It's really good, it follows the love story of a king. Available on viki. 20 episodes long, each one lasting about an hour.

Gunman in Joseon (2014) Am I recommending you this one because of Lee Joon Gi? Maybe. It has 22 episodes, each one lasting about an hour. Available on Viki.

The Crowned Clown (2019) a story of the Prince and the Pauper if I must give you a description that is relatable, but if you know the book titled Skogland, it's closer to that. It's 16 episodes long, each one lasting about 80 minutes. Available on Viki.

I'm a little ashamed to say this, but do you have any BL? I do, I do

To My Star (2021) is a story about an actor and a chef, and how they learn to cohabit after the actor is forced into hiding. You can watch either the movie version or the drama version, both available on viki.

Color Rush (2020) is a modern romance fantasy about people called Monos who can't see any color unless they meet their Probes, however this may turn dangerous as the Monos may experience obsessive behavior, so what happens when a young high schooler meets his probe?. You can either watch it on its drama or movie version. Both available on viki. By the way, if you're a long time deobi and was wandering what happened to Hwall, he's one of the main leads.

You Make Me Dance (2021) follows the story of a university dancer who is in debt and his debt collector. Available on viki in both versions. The movie is 107 minutes long.

Just Friends (2009) is a short film, but ahead of its time, if you can't tell by the year it was released on. It's a cute story about a man who visits his boyfriend in the military. I found it in dramacool.

Analysis

The first verse has various first which are written with Japanese characters (kanji), but are given an alternative reading or meaning. For example, the word ‘ghoul’ is written with the characters for ‘corpse’ (屍) and ‘person’ (人) which actually is their own interpretation of how ‘ghoul’ would be written in characters, since this combination of kanji actually does not exist in Japanese.

Other words do exist, such as 構造 which means ‘construction’ or ‘structure’, but they pronounce it as the English ‘layer’. While it is not exactly the same meaning, the two concepts are related at the very least. 

The final case is a little more tricky. When they are singing ‘saga’, the Japanese actually reads 性 or ‘sei’, which can refer to a person’s nature but is often also used in context of sexuality. This is very fitting for the game, in which the heroine slowly loses herself to her ‘true nature’ as a masochist, drowning in the pleasure bestowed upon her by these sadistic Vampires.

Analysis

First up I’d like to talk about the 刺激 in the second sentence, which is usually read as ‘shigeki’ and means ‘stimulation’. However, since they’re talking about burning one’s tongue with spices, it is read as ‘aji’ or ‘taste’ in this case. Usually you would write ‘taste’ with this character though > 味

The repeated いっそ or ‘isso’ at the end of the verse were quite tricky for me to translate. You will often find this word in combination with a conditional form (if A, then B), such as the なら or ‘nara’ at the end of the sentence above it.

For example: 幸せになれないならいっそ死んだ方がいいかも or ‘shiawase ni narenainara, isso shinda hou ga ii kamo’ which means ‘If I can’t become happy, I might just be better off dying’. In this case, it’s translated as ‘to be better off’, but it can also mean ‘I would rather’ or ‘I will just’. However, none of these work well as song lyrics so I eventually went with ‘soon’ instead and then it connects to the first sentence of the chorus.

Analysis

Once again, Rejet loves to make up their own little Japanese and add readings to characters which usually would not exist. The two English words being ‘graveyard’ and ‘scream’ are most likely just for aesthetic reasons, since they love to add random English words to everything to make it seem more cool. The words 墓場 (hakaba) and 絶叫 (zekkyō) both exist in Japanese and do hold said same meanings, they just don’t have their right pronunciation here.

The word 本姓 or ‘honsei’ means ‘true nature’ but they suggest you read it as じぶん (jibun) which just means ‘yourself’. In my translation I kept a bit of both.

Then the most interesting sentence is the last one, where they use the word for ‘love’ (愛) and caption it with いたみ or ‘itami’ which means ‘pain’. Very fitting for the franchise, indeed, where the Vampires love to show their love through inflicintg pain upon the MC.

Analysis

Once again, they use two Japanese words in 黒猫 (kuroneko) and 反応 (hannou) but put an English caption on top of it. These two words do exist and the meaning is a literal translation.

 他人行儀 or ‘tanin gyougi’ on the other hand, is changed to ‘tameraigachi’, both of which old similar meanings, but they’re not quite the same. The latter means hesitant, while ‘tanin gyougi’ is used to refer to someone’s overly stiff or formal behavior, treating their friends as if they’re strangers. 

Lastly I had some trouble with the 騎乗 at the very beginning of the last sentence. This means ‘hoseback riding’, but can also be used to refer to the sexual position of the woman being on top of the man. Given the nature of this game, I assume the latter is more likely.

This verse is relatively simple, without too many changes made to the readings of the characters. They do opt for the English ‘jealousy’, even though it is written in characters as 嫉妬 or ‘shitto’.

First of all, the use of the word 昇天 (shōten) is very ironic because it’s a term related to Catholicism and ‘ascending to Heaven’. While the caption just says ‘nobori’ which means ‘climb’ or ‘ascend’, I still wanted to keep that connotation in there when I translated it.

They once again combine 愛 (ai) or love with いたみ (itami) or ‘pain’ as well, just like in the first version of the chorus. The word ヤバい (yabai) is kind of tricky as well, because it translates as ‘dangerous’ but it can also be used in a positive sense. In the latter case, you can translate it as ‘out of this world’ or ‘extremely good’.

Remember that time Jack had Daniel guard the corridor, he got shot, and Jack had to angstily leave him behind to die? BOY I SURE DO!

Stargate Atlantis was more of a crossover fandom that attracted fans from other parts of fandom following BNF fic authors, but SG1 was a big slash fandom before that and big at Escapade.

SG1 was so good for my kinks. I read all the fic where people die and come back because if it was great 45 times in canon, it’s even greater 450 times in fic.

The big slash fandom was, unsurprisingly, for Jack/Daniel in early seasons of the show. Many of the old fic sites are gone by now.

INCLUDING AREA 52?!?!?! NO ONE TOLD ME THIS WHY WAS I NOT INFORMED OH NO WHAT?????

I just found my old flash drive from college, and it had a Spanish final where we were supposed to write a short story inspired by one of the genres/movements we’d learned about. I took a dream I’d had recently that was in my head, and turned it into Magical Realism!!

I always liked this story and I’m really excited to have found it, so I gave it a quick translate here

At the age of seventeen, Salvador Briales left school and learned to fly. While the rest of them took exams and wrote papers and obsessed over the mundane, Salvador studied to be a pilot. And then, when they had gotten married and found jobs in stores and offices and restaurants, Salvador returned to town in his airplane.

On the first day, everyone was afraid to touch the great flying beast. The town had gathered around it in a great crowd, staring at it in fascination, admonishing their children not to get too close. None of them had been on an airplane before; but even if they had, this rickety thing seemed in more danger than most of falling right back out of the skies.

And suddenly Amelia de los Rios, who had once been a friend of Salvador’s and who had since become a seamstress, came swaggering out of the crowd. "You disappeared, Mr. Briales," she called to him. "Without saying goodbye, without leaving me an address, without writing." She smiled at him. "At the very least, you owe me a ride."

The two of them mounted the plane and ascended, and the people watched them for nearly an hour, climbing, diving, whirling in all directions, and, almost certainly, seeing everything the world had to show them. And when they finally came back to earth, Amelia opened the door and loudly proclaimed, "How bored I've been!"

The children followed, and then the youth, and finally the elders; they flew in shorter and straighter laps than Amelia had, but they were more than satisfied. In a few days, Salvador had established a little business, earning his living by giving them tours of the heavens. He took children in the morning, in slow circles, and adults in the afternoon in faster ones. And at night, he went off with Amelia, to where, nobody could say. They returned late most nights and early some mornings, often with torn clothes and bruises, and almost always with wide eyes and stories that they never shared, except to say, beaming, “Thrills and adventures.”

The only person Amelia told was her mother. Every time they mounted the plane, Mrs. de los Rios got more nervous. While they were out, she walked through the town, wringing her hands and examining dresses in the store windows that she could never afford, just to keep herself occupied. Salvador undoubtedly noticed that her hair was always a shade grayer after they’d returned. In a few months, it was almost white. And one day, after he’d run into her in the market that morning, Salvador disappeared again. And again, he told no one where he’d gone.

In the three years that passed, the people did not live very differently. Maybe they rode horses more than hey had before, and went out on longer walks, exploring the woods. But they kept on working in their stores and offices and restaurants, and buying food in the market, and raising the children. Amelia married Pedro Morales, the quiet doctor with a round face and a big, booming laugh that took those who didn’t know him well by surprise. No one expected the two to fall in love, but everyone attended the wedding, and they saw clearly in her face that something about the doctor had won her over.

The two of them bought a small house with a red door and a garden, and Amelia was six months pregnant when one morning, during breakfast, they heard an airplane flying over their heads. Almost three years after his disappearance, Salvador Briales returned to the town.

Amelia ran to the field to greet him, dragging her husband behind, and arrived just as he got off the plane.

"Salvador!" She shouted, grabbing him by the shoulders, "How the hell have you been?"

"Amelia de los Ríos!" he exclaimed in response.

"Amelia Morales," she corrected him.

She introduced him to Pedro, and the two invited him to his little house for a coffee. Salvador was silent when they showed him pictures of their wedding, and talked to him about the life they had made and what they were thinking about calling the baby. And when they had said all they could, he paused, took a sip of coffee, and asked, "Do you want a ride?"

"Salvador," Pedro said, as if speaking to a child, "Amelia can’t take that kind of risk in her condition.”

"He's right, Salvador," Amelia said. She looked at her husband with a mischievous smile. "But I'm sure Pedro would love it."

Grateful to have any passenger he could, Salvador got up from the table and ran off through the field, with the two of them following behind. When they arrived, they found that the whole town had once again gathered around the plane. Amelia watched alongside the crowd when Salvador helped the nervous doctor inside and the two ascended into the skies. When they were no longer visible, the people dispersed, and Amelia lay down in the grass for a nap.

It was late when they finally came back down to earth; the sun had begun to set. Pedro came home with the pilot following behind him, anxious to tell his wife everything he had done and seen. But when he opened the door, there was no smell of dinner cooking, and no sound of Amelia singing. She was not in the kitchen, nor in the living room, nor in the bedroom, nor in the garden.

They searched the streets for her, and after half an hour, the men in town had formed a search party. Finally, it was the weeping Mrs. de los Rios who found her, lying in the middle of the field. She lay still, in the same spot where she had settled down to rest that morning. The woman knelt beside her daughter, caressing her hand and whispering her name and calling out "Pedro! Pedro, help her! "

Pedro was grateful that her mother had found his wife, who would be so easily lost. He ran up and found her lying, not on the grass, but in it, with her whole body covered by the vegetation. She had settled down into a cluster of rapidly growing vines, and while she slept, they had grown up, wrapping around her arms and legs, her chest and her round belly, until Pedro could see almost nothing of her. Hey eyes were open, but she did not resist or make any sound.

Pedro pushed his mother-in-law out of the way and began to tear at the vines. The men of the town joined him in tearing the chains apart and freeing the body of Amelia Morales. But now she did resist, and she did make a sound. All the skin beneath was red and bleeding, or an awful purple. Every time a vine was broken, her body moved out of place in unnatural ways, and she moaned softly. Desperately, Pedro asked Salvador, "What's the matter? What have the vines done to her? "

Salvador said nothing, but Mrs. de los Rios answered, quietly, "It wasn’t the vines."

Amelia began to move more violently, and to shout, "Stop, Pedro, please, stop!”

"How long has she been tied down?" Explained her mother. "Now it hurts her to move without her chains.”

  Tody's Reflection While the Jews reacted negatively to the Eucharistic teaching of Jesus, some of his disciples too disagreed with this teaching and left his company because they could not accept the hard language of faith. Jesus responds with a question which could be interpreted to mean: when the Son of Man ascends to the Father, your astonishment will disappear. Mere flesh, that is to say, human beings, without the animating Spirit, is of no avail. The words of Jesus are the words of God and the revelation of the Spirit of God. Just as the Word took on human flesh to unite himself with the human race, so the human race should eat his flesh to return to the Father who communicates life through him. This truth does not admit of any diluting it demands total adherence.

Our Mother Mary stayed close to God all through her life and she bore fruits for Him who chose her to be the Mother of His only begotten Son.

We have different roles to play for God in this life and if we are going to play it well and bear good fruits for Him like our Mother Mary did, we must stay close to Jesus and draw our strength, wisdom and inspiration from Him. We stay close to Him in the liturgy of the word and the Eucharist.

Since the momentous astrology that launched 2020, the effects of the Saturn-Pluto Conjunction are still rippling through the planetary field. This year we can anticipate greater and greater leaps in consciousness as the capacity for human evolution expands and deepens. The field of consciousness is entering a new phase of development in the collective. Think of it like jumping a hurdle to enter the next stage of enlightenment.

We are witnessing a rapid evolution of the human heart’s access to higher dimensional knowledge and understanding. It is leap years from where we began in 2012. In just 7 short years we have moved thru the awakening stage, into the transmutation stage and embodiment stage. What an extraordinary feat for humankind.

At the same time we are witnessing the demise of the 3D polarized world devolve into self-destruction. There are no winners in ‘me vs. you’ thinking and behaving. The stark contrast between two distinct operating systems is spreading. The more conscious you become, the less tolerance you have for polarized behavior. Seeing others as the enemy locks you into a divisive, dualistic time trap.

As you move thru the transmutation stage of Ascension, your field is changing and morphing into a sacred vessel for Soul Embodiment. 2020 will provide multiple stimulants for rapid acceleration into 5D and higher dimensional living. The key is heart healing and expansion, increasing levels of Love and Soul magnetism. Doorways will open to you on your path of light as your heart bridges time barriers, entering a compassionate earth plane.

The two world realities can be seen all around the planet. One kicks up some dust and the other calms you down. One is rampant chaos and destruction, the other exists in harmony with nature and each other. You choose where you prefer to live. The two realities jostle for attention. 2020 is the ‘22’ year of the Master Builder and Alchemist. It is the year humankind officially enters the Age of Aquarius, with the momentous year-end Solstice Jupiter-Saturn Conjunction in Aquarius. The entire year is leading to this powerful Solstice Gateway of a new era. Expect to witness more collapse of the self-destructing systems of narcissism and greed – including antiquated institutions, corporations and religions.

Chapter One ‘Made in Heaven’

-March, 2012, Cape Canaveral, Florida

  ‘The New Moon’ is to occur within the next day or so. The world has suddenly began to accelerate at an increasing pace. Night and day started to feel like minutes passing by. The group comprised of ‘Green Dolphin Street Prison’ inmates Jolyne Kujo, Hermes Costello, and Narciso Annasui accompanied by marine biologist Jotaro Kujo and mysterious child Emporio Alnino are all standing in the on the rooftops of the Kennedy Space Center. They are confronted and attacked by Father Enrico Pucci and the latest evolution of his stand, ‘Made In Heaven’. Emporio makes the quick decision to pull out the ‘Ghost Gun’ from his stand, ‘Burning Down The House’, and fire at Pucci. “It’s no use Emporio! Bullets won’t hit him!” screams Jolyne. “No, Jolyne! I didn’t aim for him, I aimed for the wall of the building across from us!” Emporio states as he pulls out a bullet with one of ‘Kiss’’ stickers on it. “Hermes put a sticker on the bullet! There are two bullets right now!” Emporio grabs on to the others along with the bullet in his hand. “Don’t let go of each other!” Emporio screams as they are all flung away from the building mere seconds before Pucci could strike. He wastes no time at all and instantly gives chase to the now airborne gang.

“It’s him! He’s following us on the ground! Because ‘Kiss’ is a stand, its motions aren’t sped up like everything else!” shouts Hermes. Annasui quickly thinks up a solution to help them defeat the priest. “Emporio! Put another sticker on the next bullet and fire it! Move towards the marshes! Head towards the ocean! If our surroundings are the ocean… there’s one way we can kill him!” Hermes hands Emporio another sticker and he loads the gun. “The priest is already ahead of us!!” exclaims Hermes as she spots Pucci rushing towards the entrance building. “He’s climbed onto the roof!” “Change directions with this next bullet, Emporio! To the ocean! Go towards the marshes!” Emporio fires the bullet at the marshes and they are all flung towards the ocean as Pucci was about to reach them. The priest leaps off the building and catches up with them instantaneously. “He… he’s coming after us again! He’s too fast…!” says the terrified Hermes.

“Listen… He might be able to move freely in this ‘accelerated time’, but he still only has one stand! And its power is probably only above average! He has no choice but to pick us off, one by one. That’s where we have the chance to beat him down! The moment he goes in to kill me…” Annasui says as he turns to Jotaro, “Mr. Jotaro… I’ll give you a ‘signal’. When I do, stop time immediately, and kill that fucker…! The timing for stopping time should be right when his attack hits me.” The gang all looks at Annasui with astounded expressions. “All right…? Don’t stop it before he hits me. Do it after… this is all going to happen quickly! The timing is the most important part! Grasping the timing is crucial! And to do that, we need your ‘Star Platinum’. Both Jotaro and Jolyne acknowledge Annasui’s plan. Hermes and Emporio are still trying to register what he had just said. “Wh… what are you going to do? I… I don’t get it…! What are you saying!?” asks the bewildered and dimmed Emporio. “Annasui… It’s a good idea, but… even though Pucci declared that you’re first on his list, he might not act on his words… logically thinking, I should be the one he should dispose of first.” Jotaro says in rebuttal. “No… my ‘Diver Down’ is still in your body, protecting you, like before. Not just you… in Jolyne, and Emporio, and Hermes, too! In this proximity , my stand can phase inside everyone at once… so, no matter who Pucci attacks first… My Diver Down will take the first blow.” claims Annasui with a stern demeanor as Hermes and Emporio give worried expressions. “And that ‘signal’ should be transferred to you through the sensations from my stand. Do you understand? You have to stop time after he deals the next blow to finish me off!” “Annasui, you… are you going for a draw?!” asks Hermes as Jolyne begins to worry about the situation more. “N… no way! His next attack will definitely kill you!” exclaims Emporio.

Annasui just smirks. “Maybe. But maybe I’ll be able to signal before the blow reaches my vitals… I’ve been having good luck recently… right, Emporio? Ever since I got out of prison, I’ve managed to stay alive… If I can just stay alive, keep this trend… then maybe I’ll ask Jolyne to marry me. Heh, heh… heh…! ...Or, you know, something like that…” Annasui says desperately to make the situation a bit lighter. “All right.” Jolyne says agreeingly. Jotaro and Annasui are flabbergasted with Jolyne's comment. “All right. Annasui… ask me… I’m not saying this because I’m despairing over this situation… Your plan… it still has hope. It’s not darkness that drives you… Even if there’s only one path that we can take, if there’s a hint of hope, then that’s the right path.” Jotaro and Annasui are still speechless from Jolyne’s confession, but Hermes finally breaks the silence as she shouts, “There he is! He’s already on that rock!” Pucci had finally gotten ahead of them and was preparing for an attack. Emporio fires the gun once more and they are sent hurtling towards the water. “Huddle closer!! Comes towards me!” demands Annasui to group the gang together again.

They start seeing something zipping past them at the surface of the ocean, creating great ripples and waves in it’s path. It was Pucci. “He’s going around to the right! H… He’s coming!” Jotaro assesses his surroundings and says “I see… If we’re surrounded by water, because of the waves, it’s easier to see where he’s moving.” “Not yet, Mr. Jotaro…! Don’t stop time yet…! If he gets away, it’s all over! We have to grab him! You have to feel my signal!” Emporio looks up to the dark, gloomy sky to see the clouds quickly flowing past them. “W… Wait a second…! What…!? The clouds, in the sky…! They’re moving really fast, like rockets…! And… what’s going on…?!” A light arises from the horizon, it’s the sun. “The eastern sky is already light! What?! It’s too fast! One hour was supposed to be about two or three minutes… It should have taken at least twenty to thirty minutes for the sun to rise again! No way! The sun is rising at an incredible speed!” Emporio exclaims as the sun ascends fully over the ocean horizon.

Jotaro rolls up his sleeve to see that his wristwatch hands have sped up plenty, as if they were the rotor blades of helicopter in flight. Everyone is terrified by what is happening as they stand in the Atlantic Ocean. “Is time going even faster now?!” Hermes shouts. “I...I can’t see the movement of the waves! The tide is going way too fast! I can’t tell how the priest is moving!” The gang prepares for any incoming attacks for they are all fearing the inevitable. Jolyne calls out her stand, ‘Stone Free’, Hermes summons Kiss, and Emporio loads his ghost gun. “Wh… Where is he planning to attack from!?” screams Hermes. “Get ready! Mr. Jotaro, not yet! Not yet! Wait for my signal!” At that moment, Annasui starts to feel intense pain coming from his chest. He quickly looks down to see that a hand has been forced through his body, this was the priest’s attack! Jotaro quickly identifies the attack and activates his ability, ‘Star Platinum The World’. “Now! Stop time--” Everything in the world suddenly freezes except for Jotaro. He brings out Star Platinum to grab the attacker’s arm. “I’ve got him! Take this, Father Pucci--”  But before he can land the punch, he notices something. “H… He used Jolyne’s stand to…!” Pucci had forcefully moved Jolyne and punched through Annasui’s chest using her stand.

The elevator suddenly drops from the fifty second floor to the first. All the passengers inside are on the ground, vomiting from the instant movement. Elsewhere, a mangaka (manga artist) is trying to work on his panels. “It’s my assistant’s fault! I’m the number one mangaka! There’s no way that I could only have drawn one page in an entire night! There’s no way! No way!” He dips his pen in a capsule of ink. “Ahhhh!!! The ink on the pen dries before I can bring it to the paper! What am I supposed to do?!” The mangaka proceeds to call his publisher. “Yes, hello?! Huh?! There are mangakas who can still make the deadline? Wh, Who the hell is that?! Who the hell can… Rohan Kishibe…” In another part of the world, a family is at the hospital to see their grandfather’s final moments. “He just passed away.” says the doctor. The family starts sobbing, “Grandpa!! Grandpaaa! Waaah!” “Ugh! It… It stinks!” the grandmother claims. Everyone goes running out of the room as the grandfather’s body rapidly deteriorates and emits an awful odor. “Grandpa’s already rotten! Aghhhh!!!”

Birds all over the world are still flying at their natural speed. So are the butterflies, and other insects. Sometimes cats will be unable to land right and hit their head or twist their ankles, but there are no cases of flowers blooming and wilting at unbelievable speeds. “All right? I have a cup here in my hands. As long as I have it in my hands, even if I shake it, nothing out of the ordinary happens. But once I let go of it…” The man lets go of the glass cup and it’s instantly shattered on the floor, as if it were in a comic, but the panel where it shows the object falling was erased. “See? You didn’t see even see it fall! Before you realize it, it’s already broken and shattered on the floor! This is definite proof that time has ‘accelerated’! Everything has sped up, except movements of living organisms!” claims the man. “But you might just be imagining things… I’m a physicist, but no astrological signs nor mathematical evidence exists that time is indeed moving faster!” “I’m imagining things!? Anyone with half a brain can see that it becomes lunchtime in a matter of seconds!” shouts the man in rebuttal. “We recorded everything with a speed gun and all readings were normal!” the physicist calmly states. “No one can even drive cars or ride trains anymore, and sushi chefs are complaining that the fish go bad before they can even make the sushi!” the man screams. The host of the talk show finally cuts in, “Well, unfortunately we’re going to have to cut to the commercials.” “Hey, wait…!” the man demands, “Always with the commercials! Do you really think that now’s a good time?! What the hell do you guys think you’re doing, huh?!” “Television is nothing without commercials.” the host says. “It’s the other way around, idiot!!! And you call yourself a journalist?!” the man shouts in an angry manner. The host makes a snarky remark, “Our priority is to broadcast legit news…!”

Suddenly, time stops. Ocean waves are frozen in place. “Annasui…” Jotaro mutters. He glances behind Jolyne to see the culprit, Father Pucci. “He used Jolyne’s stand to attack Annasui! I was a ‘step’ too late…! Only ‘four more seconds’! If I don’t finish him now, he’ll just hide again in the increased speed of time…! Once time starts moving again, we’ll be finished! I have to get to him while time is still… Only ‘three more seconds’!” Jotaro climbs his way towards Pucci. “‘Two more seconds’!” Something seems odd, as if something changed during this stopped time. Jotaro looks above Jolyne where the priest is and sees a volley of knives aimed straight towards her. One knife has already entered the base of her neck. “Arghhhh!!!” screams Jotaro. “Knives!! While he was falling…! The priest has already thrown them! Just like DIO had once done…!” Jotaro remembers his fight against the curse of the Joestar family, ‘Dio Brando’, back in 1989. That was the toughest fight Jotaro had ever been in to date. Muhammad Avdol, Noriaki Kakyoin, Iggy, they were allies he had lost in that battle. Jotaro wasn’t going to allow himself to meet them just yet.

Jotaro moves up towards Pucci, while pulling out a book from his jacket pocket. The book had one of Kiss’s stickers on it. He placed the book above Jolyne’s head and continues onwards. “Hermes has a lot of potential. Thankfully she gave me that sticker beforehand. I truly love Jolyne, I do. I know she wanted me to be around when she was a child, I wanted that too, but everything I did was for her. Now I have to save the world, no, the universe, for her. ‘One more second’. Jotaro summons Star Platinum once again and hits Pucci with a barrage of punches while shouting “Ora Ora Ora Ora Ora!!” Before he can get a finishing blow off, time resumes. Impact craters start to form on Pucci as he is sent flying upwards. The knives go straight for Jolyne, but the book doubles due to the sticker and it blocks a majority of the knives. A knife plunges into Jolyne’s neck while the other remaining knives hit her near the stomach. Stone Free is deactivated and both Annasui and Jolyne fall into the water. “Hermes, Emporio! Take Jolyne to the shore! Call the ‘Speedwagon Foundation’!” “What about Annasui?!” Emporio asks. “Leave him here! Go!” Hermes and Emporio pick up Jolyne’s body and start heading towards Kennedy Space Center.

Jotaro picks up Annasui and carries him on his back. “I won’t let you die, not yet! Pucci may be injured, but he can still attack!” Behind the two lies the priest in the ocean waters. “I… I have to get up… My r… ribs are broken and my skull is cracked… Jotaro is waiting for me… Wh… When I get up, he’s going to finish me.” Pucci looks up to the sky to see the clouds slowing down. “N...No! My body is sh… shutting down… I have to get to the shore, if I don’t I’ll drown. I have to get to the shore, so I can keep Made in Heaven running. I have to go for Jotaro’s ankle. I… If I cut his ankle, he will trip and won’t be able to catch me.” Pucci slowly rises from the water, bloodied and battered. He activates his stand and zips towards Jotaro. He slices his ankle and Jotaro stumbles. “Star Finger!” Jotaro shouts as Star Platinum’s index and middle finger extend to incredible lengths and stabs Pucci in the leg. Pucci falls into the water screaming in pain. “B… Bastard! How did you know I was coming!?” “Annasui’s not fully unconscious, his Diver Down’s still active. You can’t hurt me Pucci. You already lost.” Jotaro claims.

“Th… The Joestar bloodline drew strength from their pride and courage to conquer their fate… Y… You damn Joestars… I cannot let Lord DIO lose, not again…” Pucci mutters to himself. “What you have done is despicable. I feel no ounce of remorse towards you. Finishing you off by beating you to death would leave a bad taste in my mouth. If you come at me, I’ll just throw Star Platinum at you. What will it be? Being beaten to death… or drowning in your own sorrow, your own mistakes?” “ Heh… Jotaro, you are just doing this for your family… I am doing this for God! I was placed on this Earth to fix the Lord’s mistakes… To wipe this planet clean, to start a new… Caring about a bad taste in your mouth or living with no regrets… That kind of reasoning is about as compelling as something like having rat shit smeared on your walls… That will be your demise! I wish to keep those thoughts locked out. Within my mind is just one true thought. Just one. To shape a new world in DIO’s vision. And how I do it… Does not matter!” Pucci suddenly whips a small wooden cross into Jotaro’s eye. “Arrghhhh!!!” Pucci smirks, “Lord DIO told me about this trick, blinding your enemies. Maybe he will teach me more in the new universe. Time to die, Jotaro Kujo!” Pucci goes in for a strike against Jotaro. Jotaro closes his bloodied eyes and sends Star Platinum forward. Star Platinum and Made in Heaven’s fists collide together, locking each other in place. Star Platinum’s fist starts to crack open, releasing blood from Jotaros hand. Pucci grins, before having his hand rip open. “What!?” Screams Pucci in disbelief. Star Platinum goes in for a finishing blow. “ORA!!” He shouts as his fist goes through Pucci’s stomach and out the other side.

The priest falls into the water, coughing up blood while his internal organs spill out from his abdomen. “Pucci, You let your passion for DIO consume you. He tamed you with his devious charisma. That is why you failed.”

Critic Of Music

Vocal type: Bass. Positives: Robust, clear lower register that is projected well. Bass is achieved with great technique and support down to F#2. A highlight of the voice. Slightly brightening as he ascends, the middle register still maintains ease and displays a warm, masculine tone. Though he gains a slight (pushed) rasp above E4, his voice remains open, projecting well. Well-developed mixed voice, allowing him to access a clean, head-dominant C5 belt. A light, warm falsetto that Sho has no issues staying in for extended periods. This area possesses a soft vibrato and is reached with ease until around Eb5 when he needs more volume to phonate. Solid understanding of musical phrasing, being considerate to the music by changing vocal colors, texture and dynamics. Negatives: The upper extremes of the falsetto are unstable and undeveloped and the chest register thins as he ascends. Though he mixes at the extremes of his chest voice, the rest of the belting range could use a more even mix.

Live music reviews from 2014

WTMD September 1st Thursday Concert 2014 The last show of the season is yet another reminder that summer is coming to a close. Many people give this designation to Labor Day weekend, but for me it’s the final WTMD 1st Thursday concert. The lineup consisted of Among Wolves, Hamilton Leithauser and headliners The Hold Steady.

Happily, the weather cooperated since it was a beautiful night after a rather humid day. This year’s series was one show short due to the July concert being cancelled after a fierce thunderstorm passed through the city.

Among Wolves The Baltimore band won a spot as the opener after coming in first in the WTMD Baltimore Band Block Party. Eighteen musicians and bands competed for great prizes, one of which was opening at a 1st Thursday show. This band has been building momentum and were chosen to play Artscape 2014, which was another big opportunity to expose new fans to their music.

I had not seen the band before and was quite impressed with their sound and energy. The four-piece (expanded to five tonight) played songs from their recently released EP Separations & Other Loves.

Hamilton Leithauser Washington, D.C. native Hamilton Leithauser and his band took to the stage as the sun was setting. The former front man of The Walkman played songs from his album Black Hours. Leithauser’s powerful voice was fully showcased at the end of the set when he put aside the guitar to stun the audience with two ballads.

The Hold Steady The crowd swelled to capacity in anticipation of The Hold Steady, even the VIP section was more crowded than it had been all season. Photographers were kept to the traditional “first three songs and no flash” rule so as not to distract the band. After a brief sound check, the crowd was forced to wait a bit longer for the Brooklyn-based band to take the stage as a song (not by THS) played over the sound system. Finally, the band members ascended the stairs and walked onto the stage to a rupture of applause and whooping.

Lead singer Craig Finn was waving to the audience and they were giving him back the love. Finn was in almost constant motion; often jumping up and down or walking fast around the stage with hands spread.

Many songs from Boys and Girls in America were played during the set, along with several from their recently released Teeth Dreams album, and 2008’s Stay Positive.

Craig Finn worked both sides of the stage, clapping and reaching out to acknowledge fans in all areas of the park. He professed his love for Baltimore since his days in his former band Lifter Puller.

I left the show 30 minutes before it ended in order to relieve the woman taking care of my dad (I’m his primary caregiver). I’m guessing there was a raucous end to the set, befitting one of the most enthusiastic bands to play a 1st Thursday Concert in the Park to date.

WTMD June 1st Thursday Concert 2014 June 5th was a beautiful night for any outdoor activity. A large crowd filled Canton Waterfront Park for the best attended 1st Thursdays concert to date. This month’s line up was LP, Spanish Gold and headliners Los Lonely Boys.

LP LP (born Laura Pergolizzi) took the stage to sing songs from her third album Forever for Now. Her soaring strong voice had the crowd whistling and yelling after each song. LP’s instrument of choice is the ukulele, not typical, but it works with her songwriting.

The audience was even more frenetic when she sang the lead single Night Like This from her current album. About halfway through the show, the singer took the mic off of its stand, stood at the edge of the stage and just belted out a song.

The crowd responded with whoops and cheers. LP continued to thank the audience and the station for being so supportive of her music. She then sang her most well known song, Into the Wild. After a few more songs, LP’s set was over, as she exited the stage to much applause from an appreciative crowd.

Spanish Gold The three piece is comprised of Dante Schwebel, lead singer and guitarist (also guitarist for City and Colour), Patrick Hallahan, drummer (drummer for My Morning Jacket), and guitarist Adrian Quesada (formally of Groupo Fantasma). They brought along a bassist and two back up singers/percussionists for the performance.

The band played songs from their debut album South of Nowhere. I’ll admit I’m a sucker for a dramatic drummer, and Patrick Hallahan provided plenty of emotive facial expressions and flying long hair.

Dante Schwebel recognized WTMD for being the first radio station in the country to play the first single Out on the Street. He also apologized for the long sound check, which did seem to drag on past the usual 10 minute ones. I don’t know if the band arrived late or why a sound check wasn’t done before the gates opened. They still put on a good set full of music with solo guitar jams and a pounding back beat.

Los Lonely Boys Headliners Los Lonely Boys asked the audience if they were ready for some Texican rock ‘n roll before they ripped into their long set of music. The brothers Garza define Texican rock ‘n roll as a combination of rock ‘n oll, Texas blues, brown eyed soul, country and Tejano (according to their web site). The reply from the crowd was a thunderous cheer. What followed was about 75 minutes of feel good music even when the topic was about heartbreak or a bad relationship.

The band is touring in support of their CD Revelation, which came out in January. Their first song of the night was Don’t Walk Away, which was sung by JoJo. Henry and JoJo really had fun when they took turns on guitar and bass solos. The hours of practice and years of playing shows provide fans with quite a show of talent.

The crowd was waiting for the Los Lonely Boys’ breakout hit Heaven. It came as their first encore. The audience went wild and sang along. The second encore was a cover of the Spencer Davis Group’s I’m a Man.

I was pulling out of the parking lot as the song was finishing, so I don’t know if there was a third encore. Even if there was not, Los Lonely Boys put the wrap on another wonderful night of music by the water.

WTMD May 1st Thursday Concert 2014 A new season of the very successful free WTMD 1st Thursdays Concert in the Park series began at a new location — Canton Waterfront Park. The move was necessary due to the restoration of the Washington Monument in Mt. Vernon, home of the 1st Thursdays concerts for the last six years. In spite of cloudy skies and wet grass, about 2,000 music fans inaugurated the 2014 show featuring Marah, Joseph Arthur and headliner Joan Osborne.

Marah Marah brought their “Mountain Minstrelsy of Pennsylvania” to the stage and likely won over a lot of new fans. This band has been around for more than a decade and were in Baltimore to support their 11th full length collection. Perhaps most unusual about the scene on stage was the young boy playing violin and guitar. His name is Gus Tritsch and he’s a 10-year-old fiddle prodigy who is new to the band.

The band’s music incorporates rock n’ roll, blues, country and folk into their sound. The group has relocated its base to rural central Pennsylvania from the hipster-hub of Brooklyn, NY.

Joseph Arthur Brooklyn, New York-based musician Joseph Arthur returned to 1st Thursdays to play songs from 2013’s The Ballad of Boogie Christ and one from his new Lou Reed tribute album, Lou. The sky was darkening and sure enough, right as he was ready to go on stage, a heavy rain began falling. Joseph waited a few minutes but soon braved the elements to start his set. The rain did stop so umbrellas could be collapsed for improved views. Joseph took a few minutes to talk about his friend Lou Reed before singing his cover of Walk on the Wild Side.

Joan Osborne Headliner Joan Osborne came on stage wearing a light sweater and carrying a mug of tea. It was appropriate given the cool air that came in after the rain. Osborne was grateful for the enthusiastic reception and was impressed the crowd didn’t disperse after the rain fell. The set stretched from her 1995 Grammy-nominated Relish to the just-released Love and Hate. I recognized the new single, Thirsty for My Tears and a few others since the new collection was the station’s April CD of the Month.

A few songs from 2012’s Bring It On Home were included in the hour long show. Osborne danced throughout her set and looked like she was having a lot of fun. The last two songs, One of Us (her most well-known song) and St. Teresa, were taken from Relish.
