Part 1
Summary: Evan's self-destruct behaviour lands him in therapy, where he connects with (Y/n). Everything starts changing when she transfers to the 118 and their worlds collide.
Enjoy.

"So, your dad tells me you've joined the one-eighteen."
(Y/n) smiled around the rim of her coffee cup and looked down at the swirling puffs of steam circling into the air. She tried to curb her smile down and tame her reaction, she didn't want to seem overly keen or suddenly worried. But one look at Athena had (Y/n)'s eyes creasing at the corners and she put down her cup so it stopped morphing her smile.
"Any specific reason why… is it to do with your dad?" Athena perched her elbows down on the table and placed her cup down in front of her. She had been a little more than surprised when Bobby came home three days ago and told her that (Y/n) was the official new member of the team. The reason (Y/n) didn't join the 118 when she first became a fire fighter was because they didn't want anyone to think Bobby would favour her or lose his judgement with his daughter on the team.
"Felt like I was missing out," (Y/n) shrugged her shoulders while she shuffled forward on her seat and leaned over the table.
"Hm. You sure? I'm glad you both seem happy with the switch, it's just a little sudden."
"I fancied a change, I'm always listening out for their team on the radio, checking in, you know? Thought working with them might be easier."
It was partially true. (Y/n) did cling to the radio when she heard her dad's team attending to a call out or a rapidly spreading fire. She always listened when one of them was being taken to hospital and when they had their mayday calls and it made her anxious. (Y/n) knew if one of her dad's team got injured, it set off his own panic and she always wanted to make sure if he got hurt, she could go straight to him.
Moving to their team would stop that panic and give (Y/n) the feeling of being understood and looked out for. At least if she couldn't count on the rest of the team like her old station, she knew she could always count on her dad to watch her back and make sure she was alright.
"Well you're certainly your father's daughter which will shake things up in that place."
"No kidding. Eddie isn't sure what to make of me and Chimney is kissing my behind to suck up to dad. It's gonna take a while to settle in."
(Y/n) had only worked three shifts with the team so far but she was slowly finding her feet and falling into place with them. She had some medical knowledge and background which meant that while she gelled with Hen and Chimney, she also had a link to Eddie. He wasn't a paramedic like them but he was an army medic and (Y/n) and Eddie were on standby for any medical emergencies that got out of hand.
Hen seemed fine with (Y/n), she had heard about her from Athena, naturally, which was a good thing. But Chimney was gluing himself to (Y/n) so he could ask things about Bobby and try to stay on Bobby's good side. It was endearing but it was also a little unsettling.
Whereas Eddie wasn't sure what to do. He wanted to make her welcome, (Y/n) could sense that. But he didn't want to overstep the mark or do anything that would unsettle the foundations because she was Bobby's daughter that that automatically meant to tread lightly.
Evan was a whole other situation.
It felt rather easy to work alongside Evan and fit in. He automatically took to showing her the ropes and their way of doing things and his joking manner made things simple. They could have a laugh and try to play things cool so no one guessed there was something going on with them behind closed doors.
"You'll fit in just fine, especially after one of their parties." Athena rose her brows and grinned before she finished the rest of her coffee. A party would be just the thing to get (Y/n) officially intergrated into their team and have her become one of them.
If it was anything like the Christmas party, (Y/n) would be in for a treat.
She and Evan might have to abstain from the alcohol though. She could barely remember that night and she knew Evan didn't remember it either. Drunken nights of passion were all well and good, but not when both their minds were ticking time bombs.
When her phone buzzed in her pocket, (Y/n) put down her cup and dug around in her back pocket.
'Hey, kind of had a rough shift. Fancy a drink? Don't wanna be alone tonight. XX'
(Y/n) rolled her lips together as she felt her shoulders slump down. Her weight fell onto her elbows on the table and she sank her teeth into her lower lip.
That didn't sound good.
Evan didn't seem the type who would admit when he had a bad day. From what he said in therapy, he kept his problems to himself. Asking for help wasn't easy for anyone and he wasn't ready to do that yet, but this was close. He was admitting something was wrong and he was asking her for some sort of help. Drinking the night away might not be helpful, but (Y/n) could certainly give Evan some company and check that he was alright.
'Sure, on my way. XX'
"Do you mind if I head off?"
"Sure, you got plans?"
(Y/n) slipped her phone back into her pocket and drained the last drop of her coffee. Evan had timed that right. (Y/n) had come over to have tea with Athena and May who had already shot off back home before her night shift at the call centre. Since they had eaten and the coffee was empty, (Y/n) didn't feel bad about leaving. She had spent the majority of the afternoon with Athena, she could spare the evening for Evan.
"A friend wants to meet for a drink."
Again, she wasn't technically lying. She was just keeping some things to herself.
It surprised (Y/n) how quick it was to get from her dad's house over to Evan's apartment. She wondered fi Evan had realised how close he was to work and to Bobby when he moved in here. He probably did. He seemed like the kind of person who wanted to be surrounded by his family and friends, he didn't want to be far away from those he cared about.
Surprise and apprehension flooded through (Y/n)'s stomach all at once when she approached Evan's apartment and found the door unlocked. He had buzzed her in, logically he had unlocked the door too. But he normally waited for her to knock.
She knocked anyway and slowly opened the door, peeking her head round as she shouted a quiet, "Evan, you okay?"
Her eyes flitted to the kitchen and once she saw his broad frame, she shut the front door behind her and picked up the pace to go into the kitchen. She unhooked her bag from her shoulder and slung down on the counter but (Y/n) couldn't drag her eyes away from him.
Evan was leaning back against the counter next to the sink, pressing his lower back and hips rather tightly into the counter edge. He had one leg crossed over the other, one hand propped up behind him on the counter, presumably to stabalise himself. And a half-full beer bottle in his other hand. The way he rose the bottle to his lips and took a swig made his Adam's apple bob up and down and his neck tensed and flexed.
If she wasn't looking so intently, (Y/n) would have missed the way his head tilted to one side before correcting itself and holding straight again.
"Are you okay… what happened at work?"
He drained the bottle. In one swoop, the last half of the bottle was drunk and he let the bottle drop into the sink with a clash. The sound echoed through the kitchen and made (Y/n) shudder and when she pushed up on her toes to look across at the sink, she sucked in a deep breath. He'd had quite a lot to drink. A few beers, a few shots of vodka by the look of the empty bottle that they had cracked open last week and didn't finish.
"Cap sent me home." Evan's lips pulled into a tight grin that was full of sarcasm but it masked the pain well. The only trace of hurt was swirling in his baby blue eyes that burned into (Y/n)'s so much she felt like melting into a puddle on the floor.
"Why?"
"We had a car crash, the engine caught fire while I was getting the kids out… I got them both out, but they didn't make it."
Evan dropped his head down to stare at his bare feet for a while. It didn't matter that he got them out. It didn't make a difference when Evan crawled out of that car with one kid in each arm and heaved himself over to the ambulance just as the car exploded. All that mattered was his efforts weren't good enough.
Nothing he did was ever good enough and those parents would have to live without two of their three children. Evan couldn't help them.
"Did you get hurt?"
His eyes narrowed and a flash of uncertainty pooled in his eyes. His lips pressed together tightly and he braced both hands on the counter as his eyes followed (Y/n)'s approach.
He stayed still and deathly silent as she moved to stand in front of his legs and leaned her stomach into his like they were about to join in a dance. Her fingertips felt like heaven against his skin and her touch made his skin prickle with heat and adrenaline and his blood fizzled in his veins.
"Why? Doesn't matter, I'm still here-"
"It matters to me. It matters that you would of hurt yourself to get them out." (Y/n) didn't have to be there to know what Evan would have done. She knew he would disobey any order Bobby threw at him to get those kids out. And she knew Evan would of let himself get scolded, burned, scratched and torn apart if it meant getting them out.
He acted first and thought about the consequences later and when he had casualties like this, Evan wouldn't care about his own pain anymore. His turmoil would become irrevelant.
(Y/n) danced her fingertips over his exposed arms, taking in the state of his hands that had a few scold marks near the knuckles and fingertips. His gloves must have started to burn and melt. When she dragged his shirt up to expose his stomach, she watched Evan tip his head back and close his eyes. He wasn't going to stop her. He would do the same if things were the other way around.
No marks, bruises or cuts and burns on his stomach or torso. (Y/n) dragged her hands up to his shoulders and pushed up on her toes so she could lean over his shoulder. He had a minor burn on the back of his neck that went across his right shoulder, but it wasn't deep enough to require hospital treatment.
"Satisfied, baby?"
"No. I'm sorry you lost them, I know it's not easy." Her words made some difference because she wasn't just a girlfriend telling Evan everything was okay. She wasn't an outsider saying she knew what he was going through. (Y/n) had lost people in these situations too, she knew exactly what kind of pain would be rattling through Evan's mind and soul.
"Let's have a drink."
"Evan, baby talk to me-"
"And say what? I almost got crushed to get them out and what good did it do? I carried those kids to the ambulance and… and Bobby wouldn't let me tell their parents I failed them. He wouldn't let me explain how shit I am at this job, that I didn't do it in time."
Words tumbled past his lips before he could stop himself and he waved one hand out in the air before his fingers turned to scratch against his scalp and tug at his hair. He could feel his breaths running away without him and the panic started to bubble back up in his chest.
He hated the panic. It sobered him up. Evan drank to dull down those feelings, not to let them override him again.
"Hey,"
He tried to tilt his head back but he couldn't stop (Y/n) from cupping his face within her palms. Her thumbs brushed beneath his eyes and her fingers stroked against his cheeks as she tilted his head down so she could stand on her tiptoes and press their foreheads together.
They were close enough that Evan could taste her lips and feel each breath she took mingling with his own rapid, shallow breathing.
He couldn't stop himself from reaching up to cup her wrists, silently begging her not to let him go. He didn't want to be without some sort of touch and right now, her touch was the only thing grounding him to the Earth. He let his breaths run away without him but he focused his eyes on hers and shed as many tears as he could to get them out his system.
"Do you want to know what good you did today?"
Evan didn't answer, but he didn't object either, and (Y/n) took that as a sign to keep going.
"You gave those parents closure. One, two, ten seconds later, and they would have no bodies to bury. You don't know what that means to a parent, to have their children home when they pass away. My dad stopped you from telling them because he knew how they would thank you, and he knew you wouldn't be able to handle that. But that's okay, baby. It's okay."
(Y/n) closed her eyes and leaned further into Evan until she finally pressed her lips against his wet, ruby red mouth. She swallowed every little hitched breath and cry he let out, she let him dig his nails into her wrists and sink his teeth down into her lip. And she let his foot reach out and curl around the back of her ankle to drag her closer until every inch of her was pressing down on him.
Evan wanted to feel her weight pushing down on him. He wanted to be pinned between her and the counter to know that he was alive and feel safe with someone who cared.
"But I c-could of saved them-"
"Baby, you don't know that. If they were alive when you got them out, they might still have died on the way to hospital or when they arrived… like my mum." (Y/n) pressed another delicate kiss on Evan's lips while she continued to brush away his tears.
He didn't know what it meant to have loved ones back. (Y/n)'s younger brother died in their house fire years ago but her and Bobby were grateful to the firefighters that managed to get him out. And they were more than grateful that they got her mother out too. She died in the hospital but they still got her out and no one could have done anything more.
No one was blaming Evan; he had no reason to punish himself.
"You gave them back their children, and that's enough. You are enough."
Evan didn't know how important it was for family to have their loved ones back after they died. A lot of people didn't get that. Their families could die in a fire or drown in the sea or be lost and never come home or be found. Parents went to their graves not knowing where their children were and not having graves to visit or ashes to give them comfort.
By getting those kids out, Evan gave those parents that sense of closure. He handed them back their children.
He had done his job the best he could and there was nothing more that Evan could do. He had to come to terms with that and take solace in the small things. Evan needed to accept a little comfort and know he had done enough today.
Punishing himself wasn't going to help anyone when no one was blaming him for what happened today and no one ever would.
'I don't feel like enough.'
Those words were on the tip of his tongue but he couldn't bring himself to say them. Not to someone who would completely understand where he was coming from. Not to (Y/n). He didn't want her to talk him off that ledge, not quite yet.
"Deep breaths… let me make you some coffee." (Y/n) knew the silent message behind her words would reach Evan. She would try and sober him up a little, he didn't need a hangover to haunt him in the morning and he had drunk enough for tonight. Coffee would settle his system and that was what he needed.
(Y/n) kept one hand cupping his face and brushed her thumb across the corner of his mouth. She pressed her chest into his and leaned around him to flick the kettle on, but Evan shook his head.
He let go of her hands so he could wrap one arm around her waist and cup her hip. His nails scrunched up in her shirt and dug through into her skin and he reached his free hand out to grab the neck of the whiskey bottle tucked far back on the counter behind him.
"I think you've had enough, sweetheart."
(Y/n) could feel his resolve start to fade when she held his chin between her thumb and finger and tilted his head away from the bottle to face her. She tugged him down to her level and kissed him while her other hand reached out for his. She pushed the bottle back down onto the counter.
He had drunk enough while he'd been alone, but he wasn't alone now. She was here now and she was going to take care of him.
"I haven't, I can still feel the panic, in here." He let go of the bottle to rub his fist over his chest. The bundle of nerves were still igniting away in his chest and he wanted it to stop. Drinking stopped his panic, it dulled his overactive mind and calmed him down and made it easier to fall asleep. "Have a drink with me."
When his lips pressed against her temple, (Y/n) sighed and hovered her lips against his neck. But her fingers stayed tight around his wrist and she stopped him from reaching back out for the bottle.
She wasn't doing this.
(Y/n) wanted to help Evan, but drinking with him wasn't going to help. She wanted things to be good between them.
If they started to reply on each other to drink together and lose their minds, they would end up harming each other and destructing themselves. (Y/n) wanted to be a support system for Evan and in order to do that, she had to do what was best for him and drowning their sorrows wasn't going to work. (Y/n) knew a lot about relying on alcohol after seeing her dad go through that and she wouldn't let that happen with Evan too.
"Evan, if I drink the night away with you, it's gonna change us. We'll start destructing together, we'll egg each other on and push ourselves past the edge. And I don't wanna lose you like that. Let me look after you-"
A gasp tumbled past (Y/n)'s lips when Evan cut her off.
His hands cupped the back of her thighs and he swiftly hoisted her up off her feet and walked her forward to the kitchen island. He sat her down on the edge of the counter and moved to stand between her legs with his hands digging tightly into her flesh, moving her legs so she hooked them around his torso.
He kept one hand cupping her thigh but his other hand wandered right beneath her shirt, letting his cold fingers travel across her warm skin until she was squirming in front of him.
"Promise me."
"What?" (Y/n) cupped his face in her hands again and leaned her head forward against his.
"Promise you won't let me go. Stay with me, hold me, just don't let me go."
Each word rambled faster and faster past his lips until (Y/n) could barely focus on what he was saying. There was a sense of urgency behind his words and she found herself nodding along, whispering a promise against his lips that devoured her like she was his last meal on Earth.
His hand slipped down from her back to her bum and he pulled her off the counter, forcing her to sit on his hips while he started to walk away from the kitchen with his lips still attached to hers. He drank her in, inhaling and gasping against her mouth and groaning into her lips when her fingers tangled into his hair.
"How drunk are you, Evan? Is this you destructing?"
Her voice sounded like a lullaby dream in Evan's ears and he found himself smiling despite the tears that were still pooling in the corners of his eyes. He pressed his nose against hers and swiped his tongue out across her lip while he stopped at the foot of the stairs.
"Not drunk enough, baby." Her fingers tickled the back of his neck and he swooped down to attach his lips to her neck instead. "And no, it's not. You're my saving grace."
He wasn't trying to get her into his bed so he could use sex as a way of combusting. He was trying to drown himself in (Y/n) because she was the only thing standing between Evan the the void he was staring into. He would lose himself in her eyes, drown in her body and breathe her in until she made everything stop and put the world back to rights.
***
"Self-harming can come in a lot of different forms, it doesn't have to be physical injuries. It's anything we do that purposely hurts or brings us down in any way. Starving ourselves, forcing ourselves into dangerous situations to prove a point or to feel that risk of being hurt. Abusing substances for various reasons."
(Y/n) found her eyes zoning in on the wooden floor, focusing on the little chips and dents that made something pristine look broken and unkept. She could relate to what Harold was saying.
At one point or another, (Y/n) had done a lot of bad coping mechanisms to punish herself or as a way of coping with the world. They didn't always seem bad, but they felt necessary. Running head first into a bad situation despite being told not to because she felt like she deserved to be in danger and because getting hurt would punish her for the things she had done wrong.
"And in your jobs, where your main priority is to help people, if you can't do that… you can end up hurting yourself to cope or as a punishment." Harold rubbed his hands over his knees as he sat up a bit straighter. "Would anyone like to share?"
"I- I think it feels necessary, for me, rather than as a punishment."
"Okay, can you elaborate on that (Y/n)?"
Sitting opposite Evan in the same seats as last week suddenly felt like they were sitting on opposite ends of the ocean. He looked so far away when she lifted her gaze to stare across at him.
He had his arms folded over his chest, his knees bent out to the sides making his thighs look large and inviting and he was slouched down so he didn't look as tall. She knew Evan felt like he was the odd one out, both because he was new to the group and because he looked different. He was young, like her, but he carried himself like he could face the world, until he walked through those doors.
When Evan walked in here, his resolve changed and his control faded away.
"It's necessary to skip a meal because I can save more time, I can do more at work, I can get on with that call ten or twenty minutes quicker because I cut out something that isn't necessary."
"You prioritise?"
"Yeah… I'll take that sense of danger too. The higher the danger, the more adrenaline, the faster I move, the more I can think and act. My expectations rise each time until I'm thinking… skip breakfast, skip lunch, run into a fire without gloves on so I can grab things better and if I get hurt, then that's a good thing. It proves what I'm doing is paying off somehow."
(Y/n) had expectations of what she wanted to do when she was at work. She wanted to be efficient and eating meals took time. It was time to prepare food, set out the dinner and wash the plates and then try and work it off so she didn't feel too full or too tired.
Skipping that meal meant she felt more alert, more agile and she had an extra half an hour to prioritise and get ready and stock the truck.
When she was scared her adrenaline made her think better, the scarier the better because she worked better under pressure. And if that pressure got her hurt, that was okay, that was just the burden of proof of what she was doing and how it was paying off.
But (Y/n) knew the more she thought like this, the more her expectations would rise and she would never meet those goals she set herself. She would end up starving herself to the point of needing a doctor, she would forget safety measures and put herself at risk to be more efficient and helpful.
"And you know, when you don't meet those expectations, you push harder. But when you do meet them, it's not enough because you raise the bar." When (Y/n) nodded and stared down at her hands, Harold looked around the room. That was her telltale sign that she was done opening up. "Anyone else have any other harmful tendencies?"
"I don't take precautions at work anymore."
"What kind of precautions Evan?"
"When we had a factory fire a few weeks back, we were told to evacuate, but I knew someone was still inside. It wasn't safe and I knew going in could cost me everything, but I did it anyway… against orders."
"Why?"
"Because it doesn't scare me. Sometimes… I- I go void, you know? I have days or weeks of not being afraid to risk everything. I know I can do it, so I blunder my way through and I do it."
Evan hated it when he felt that way. He hated that blank, null and void feeling where death didn't phase him and the danger felt limitless and pointless. He ran back into that factory and found a way to get that man out. Granted, he needed the team to come back and help him, but Evan found that man when everyone else was willing to let him die than take a risk.
Evan didn't need the danger and adrenaline to fuel him, but he wanted it because without it, he felt like a zombie.
"Do you get that dopamine rush, when you complete what you set out to do? Does it feel like a reward for you?"
"Not always, that's the bad part." He slumped forward in his chair and leaned his forearms down on his thighs as his back clicked into place. When he didn't get that excitement or that relief at the end of the day, Evan felt like going home and never waking up. What good was the job to him if it didn't give him that boost and that reward or knowing and feeling that he had saved someone?
"So then you keep running into that danger, chasing that high and gratification. What happens on a bad day, Evan? When you're stopped from running into that building or when all your efforts don't work?"
"I drink. I go home, I drown, and I don't wanna get up. I lost someone two days ago on the job and I… fuck, I… I've never felt like that before, but if I had a gun, I might of used it."
Tremors rattled through (Y/n)'s stomach and her arms bound around her chest to stop herself from crying. They weren't really meant to mingle and it was a conflict, her and Evan being in the same therapy group like this. She couldn't afford to give them both away and admit that Evan meant much more to her than a stranger in a weekly meeting.
But how could she stop herself from crying when he'd just admitted the job was killing him?
Being a fireman was his saving grace, it was what Evan wanted to do and he couldn't see himself doing anything else. But losing someone had nearly taken every ounce of him. It wasn't fair. Not when Evan did his level best each and every day and he helped so many people, but now he felt broken.
"Can I ask why it hit you so hard?"
"Because I got them out! I- I had then in my arms, and my efforts did nothing. If my best can't save someone, if it's n-not enough, where does that leave me? So I drink, a lot, and I would of carried on if-" His baby blue eyes welled up with tears and for a split second, he let his eyes linger on (Y/n) before he looked down at his hands and tangled them together. "Uh, if I had more alcohol in the house."
A close save.
Evan would have drank the bottle of whiskey in his apartment and the rest of the beer in the fridge if (Y/n) didn't come over when he asked.
He would of woken up the same way he did when Maddie found him if (Y/n) didn't help him. And he would do it again and again because the drink stopped the panic and the panic fuelled his bad thoughts and turned him on himself.
"Okay. You said before that you binge drink, Evan this is only a suggestion, but I think abstaining from alcohol might be useful. You sound like you're on the path to abusing it and that is a hard path to stray from."
Harold tried to word it as carefully as he could, but he was only saying something that Evan had already been thinking about.
Something that (Y/n) had already talked about.
She didn't want to keep drinking with Evan in case they both got on that abusive path of drinking when their problems worsened. They would end up drinking after every bad shift, drowning the night away and using alcohol to make things better. Then where would they be if they needed a drink to get themselves through a shift at work?
(Y/n) wanted to be Evan's support system and if they were going to help each other, they needed to acknowledge some of their problems.
Alcohol was starting to be a problem for Evan.
He nodded before he bowed his head and hung his hands down between his thighs.
Suddenly, the room felt like it was expanding, like the floor was growing and creating a distance between him and (Y/n). And Evan wanted to run across the room and drop his face into her neck and curl his arms around her waist. He wanted to anchor himself to her, tether his body to hers until he wasn't afraid anymore. Until the night faded away and the day seemed bearable.
Right now, Evan didn't want a drink. He just wanted (Y/n).

A Minor Delay by rainbow_nerds / @rainbow-nerdss Mature | 43.6k Almost a year after the bridge collapse, a lot has changed. The team are scattered—Bobby and Athena on their Honeymoon, Hen on adoptive parent's leave, and Buck and Eddie... They may still work together, still have movie nights with Chris whenever they can, but things have changed. With Maddie and Chimney's wedding around the corner, Buck tries to make it perfect. We’re literally DAYS away from s7 but I just watched the graveyard scene™️ and I have,,,, thoughts
Tumblr media
I haven’t publicly discussed the lighting strike, the coma dream or the third kitchen scene yet, but there was something about this scene that irked me enough, so now im here
For starters this whole episode was centered around death. We have the Fake Funeral, Shannon’s grave, the Athena arc with the man who died then came back to life, and obviously,,, as one might imagine, we brushed Buck’s near-death experience (⚡️) — then at the end,,, the ever angering Buddie talk at a previous victim’s grave.
In this episode we meet Natalia, a death doula who Buck and the rest of the 118 tend to after an accident.
She quickly takes an interest in the recently Discharged™️ Evan Buckley, even asking him out on a date after finding out about his “acquaintance” (sic.) with death.
On the date per se she manifests her excitement towards Buck’s whole story, even prompting him to say ‘look at how excited you are. you’re like a real fangirl of this stuff.’
Upon research, I’ve found that death doulas are a real thing. Slow blink. I had no idea.
Thing is, she keeps saying how cool it is to have died and come back to life, imo pressuring him into discussing details he doesn’t seem all that ready himself to say out loud (he just seems to like her, however). He does anyway. She says how amazing and cool it is. Again.
We do not get more details of the date.
Tumblr media
Now to what brings us all here.
The scene starts with Buck and Eddie in front of Marie’s grave (a victim they knew). Buck explains how she died and mentions Natalia. Eddie says ‘we’re all gonna die alone’,,, which,, 👁️ ok mister Diaz a little somber but um– let him cook.
Buck seems a lil taken aback by this, turning to look at Eddie quietly until he explains that’s what Marie said to him and Hen. Buck disagrees with the statement.
Then it’s Eddie’s turn to mention Natalia. “That’s a beautiful thing Natalia did for her,” he says, looking at the ground. I’m not particularly a Natalia stan, but I can say that at this point of the conversation Eddie means no ill-will towards her. She’s actually somehow a… background character (of sorts) to this whole story.
This is when it gets,,,, interesting 🧍🏽‍♀️
As soon as Eddie speaks, Buck takes a small breath and smiles. Like WIDE. (Like guys that’s the picture I just put above this whole scene) — BUT he looks like he’s a bit hesitant in entrusting Eddie with the fact that he’s seeing her. He even ducks his head a little bit, which is a clear sign of cautiousness.
Before Buck’s even done speaking, Eddie sighs and throws his head slightly back. I don’t have the WORDS to explain to yall the way this man looks like he’s e x h a u s t e d (they haven’t even started the conversation bro 😭)
“Really? Dating someone you rescued?” OKAY LISTEN TO ME. This is what sets off the Marisol arc. Before Buck started dating Natalia, we hadn’t even heard about Marisol in the whole season !!!! She was gone, poof! Then Buck gets all deathy-snuggly with Natalia and suddenly Eddie’s really interested in her (when not even half an episode ago he was telling Tia Pepa he wasn’t ready even if he didn’t wanna be alone). Otherwise it would be awfully cynical of Eddie to be saying all this when he’s planning on going against his OWN words in like two episodes……….. 👨🏽‍🦯
Not only that, but it’s the fact that he looks completely against it from the very get go. Ummmm Taylor was someone they rescued, so was Ali. We never heard this speech before did we??? “You know that never ends well.” Also it’s the second fact that he says YOU know it never ends well. Excuse me? Wasn’t Ana someone you rescued also? 🤨 it just seems like he’s trying very hard to convince Buck to not do this. How do I know this you ask??? Bc I’ve been in that situation.
When Buck starts defending his choices, Eddie only nods. He can’t even look at him. He’s defeated, but not AS defeated as he’s about to be. “Anyway, she wanted to ask me about the lighting strike” “Right. You love being the guy with the answers.” This is NOT PLAYFUL. EDDIES NOT SAYING THAT ENDEARINGLY. Omg I can’t even- he’s not fooling around the way a friend would tease someone about their hot new date, he’s deliberately using the same PHRASING Buck used with him and Chris like a minute ago. He’s hurt. Eddie’s HURT. By now Eddie thinks Buck’s just playing around with this girl. And he’s hurt bc when he had his moment with Tia Pepa, he envisioned a life for himself with Buck (and I can’t tell you it was super romantic or platonic, but in his head it was a family. All three of them. This was clearly breaking that vision that he took so long to accept).
Tumblr media
Okay. “I feel like she sees me.” I have… I need to have extensive PTO rn cuz im seething. The way Eddie’s head immediately turns to Buck, even though he had been avoiding his eyes through the entirety of the scene. Another person said this so im not gonna take originality credit but: it’s like their whole friendship flashes through his mind, and his face contorts into a very painful ‘but I see you.’ I’m in so much pain lmao
Eddie’s literally scrambling now. He doesn’t know what to say, how to stop this pain. He’s lost Buck. He lost the man he’s been secretly and unawaringly in love with for over five years. He tries to be okay with this new reality asap. He hides his feelings. He starts joking. Buck’s not really laughing either, it’s futile.
“You haven’t been the same since it happened. But how could you be?” The last bit Eddie says to himself. He’s trying to adjust so fast he might have whiplash. It’s like he’s thinking: “if I had acted before this all happened, maybe I could have changed with you, instead of watching you change from a corner when im nothing but your best friend. No authority, no rights, no permission.” 😀 im ready to end it all btw
Thing is,,, Eddie STILL loves Buck, even if he’s convinced himself in his head right about now that he can’t have him. He’ll be happy (he’ll have to be) just being his friend, because losing his romantic love won’t ever be worse than losing him completely, so he says: “You don’t have to be anything for anybody.” Does this REMIND YALL OF SOMETHING ???
Tumblr media
(gently borrowed from @loveyourownsmiilee – although it was a gif but I’m kinda computer stupid)
Anyway, then Eddie becomes a little preachy, ending it w “so what changed you?” Which honestly he says quite angrily and accusatorially. If you watch the scene he even nods his head up, pointing at Buck and separating him from himself. He’s cutting their lines. YOU changed. YOU moved on. YOU died. YOU didn’t wait for me.
Then Buck kinda extends his hand back. “That has to mean something, right?” (Cheating death). He looks at Eddie with hope, but the man ISNT LOOKING BACK…. And the window is lost. Eddie’s joking again, Buck looks away.
Whatever, the scene ends with Eddie wanting but refusing to look at Buck, while Buck stares into a hypothetical horizon with a glimmer of a new, different hope. He never realized Eddie’s heart broke an inch away from him.
“It’s all a gift.”
Not to Eddie, it isn’t.

I Dare You
9-1-1 Evan Buckley x female plus size reader. Fluff, smut, sexual tension, Buck being a cute motherfucker. This is a bit after Abby and Taylor. Been a while since I've done this so no hate plz
Tumblr media
You wake up to the sun shining through your window, covering your face with your hand. You groan and get out of bed, throwing the blanket off you, and walk into the kitchen. You hear your phone going off and answer the call. "Hey Eddie, what's up?", You say, smiling. "Hey Y/n, sorry if I woke you". Eddie says, chuckling through the phone. You laugh and say,"I actually woke up before you called me, so you're good". "Ok, so i was wondering if you wanted to come by the firehouse later, meet my friends, and go out for drinks with us", Eddie says, awkwardly. You roll your eyes, sigh, and say,"Fine, I've got nothing better to do anyways after work". "Ok, see you later". Eddie says, hearing the smile in his voice. You set down your phone and get ready for work.
You walk into the call center and see your friend Maddie and exchange hellos, as you sit down at your desk, you see her walking over to you. You smile and say,"Hey what's up Maddie?". She smiles and says,"ok i know that I've asked you this before but please give my brother a chance". You roll your eyes and say,"Mads, you know how i feel about stuff like that and i'm not interested right now". She sighs and says,"Please at least give him the chance to meet you cause I've already told him so much about you". You sigh and say,"Alright as long as he's not a total perv". You both laugh, she says thank you and you get to work on taking calls with a long day ahead.
When your shift is over, you head home to change into a nice outfit to wear for the get together tonight. You choose a black short sleeve floral shirt with long blue jean skirt. You do your makeup, leaving your hair down, and grab your purse. You grab your keys and head out the door and lock your door behind you. You drive over to the firehouse and park your car, as you're walking inside, you bump into someone, almost falling down, but two strong arms catch you. You look up at him and see two beautiful blue eyes, one having a birthmark on the side. He lets go of you, smiles, and says,"Sorry about that i didn't see you, but i don't know how i didn't when you're so pretty". You scoff at him, pat his shoulder and say,"You're gonna have to do better than that, fireboy". You turn your head and see he's staring at you as you walk away, so you wink at him and keep on walking. You walk up the stairs where you're greeted by Eddie, who gives you a big hug, walks you over to everyone else. He introduces you to Bobby, Hen, Athena, and Chim as you shake everyone's hand, you hear footsteps come up the stairs so you turn around.
You see Maddie standing next to the firefighter you ran into earlier and your eyes widen. "Y/N, this is my brother, Buck." You blush and glance over at Eddie, who stares at you in confusion. Buck looks at you, smirks, extends his hand, and says,"Nice to finally meet you Y/n, my sister has told me a lot about you". "Hi.", You say, quickly, returning the handshake. Eddie pulls you away from everyone else and says,"Ok, would you mind telling me what is going on here?". You roll your eyes, sigh, and say,"Maddie wanted to set me up with her brother to see if we would hit it off but i didn't know that you and him worked together, also i kinda flirted with him when i bumped into him on my way in here". You shrug your shoulders as Eddie raises an eyebrow and crossed his arms. You and Eddie walk back towards everyone when Maddie calls you over. You walk over to her and sit next to her on the couch. "So, i didn't know you and Diaz knew each other". Maddie says as you sip your beer. You turn to her and say,"Yes we met when we both moved here around the same time and we've been friends ever since". Maddie nods her head and leans back on the couch, and says,"How'd you not know those two work together?". You look over at Eddie and Buck hanging out in the kitchen, Buck catches you staring, winks at you, Eddie sees and smacks him on the head, making Buck laugh. You giggle and say,"Honestly i don't know, all Eddie told me was that he worked at the 118, and he told me about Bobby and Chim but not much about Buck". Maddie looks at you and says,"Ok but still i think you and Buck would be great for each other", making you roll your eyes, laughing. Everyone gets ready to leave to go get drinks when you're stopped by Hen. "Just letting you know, be careful around Buck, he's a been in a pretty hard place right now and he's only acting like this to not show it". You nod your head yes and walk down the stairs right after her.
When everyone gets to the bar, you, Maddie, Hen, Athena sit at a big round booth while the guys sit on the other side. You get up to get a couple of drinks and Buck comes up next to you, leans on his arms, and says,"You know, when my sister tried to set me up with you, i said no but now i regret saying it". You laugh, and say,"You're not the only one, cause as far as i can tell, you just use that bad boy persona to cover up what you really are on the inside which is a being such a teddy bear". Buck looks at you shocked with his mouth hanging open. You close his mouth with your hand and pat his cheek, head back to the booth as he watches you. Maddie and Hen stare at you when you get back and sit down at the booth."What?". You say, with confusion in your voice. "Ok how'd you do that? Normally women fall at his feet, but you left him standing there". Maddie asks, surprised. Hen smirks, and says,"I think Buck has met his match". You giggle and say,"Yeah i just want to mess with him for a bit". You sip your drink as you look over at Buck standing over at the bar, move your eyes up and down his physique, the muscles in his arms.
After a little bit, you get up to head to the back restroom when the door to the private restroom opens and an arm pulls you inside. You are up against the door and look up to see Buck looking down at you as he locks the door, with a smirk on his face. You look at him, and say, seductive,"You really don't like the chase do you fireboy?". He scans your body up and down, licks his lips, and says,"Yes and no, but you really know how to get a man going and i find that interesting and-". You stop him mid sentence, putting a finger to his lips, shushing him, and say,"Buck just shut up and kiss me". He does as you say and kisses you, with so much passion and heat, making you moan. He picks you up, holds you against the door, wrapping your legs around him. He moves down from your mouth, starts kissing your neck, making you wrap your arms around his neck, run your hands through his hair, making you sigh. He grips your hips as you run your hands down his back, he stops kissing you, and says,"maybe we should take this back to my place". You nod in agreement and he sets you down. You turn to unlock the door and he plants a kiss on your neck, making you whimper. You both walk out the door, hand and hand. Buck leads you out of the bar and as you leave, you see Maddie looking at you with a smile on her face and Eddie rolling his eyes shooing you off with a laugh. You both get in Buck's car and before he can even start the car, you start kissing him again. He slides his hand around the back of your neck, and when you both stop to catch a breath, he smiles and starts the car. On the way to his apartment, he takes one hand off the wheel, places it on your knee, sliding it up your leg, making you gasp.
You both get to his apartment building, enter the elevator and before the doors close, he backs you up into the wall, grabbing hold of your hands, and holds your arms above your head while kissing your neck, making you close your eyes and lean your head back into the wall. He starts to unbutton your shirt when the elevator dings and the doors open. He pulls you to his apartment and unlocks the door, you walk in and as you turn around, he slams the door closed, locks it,takes his shoes and socks off and walks slowly over to you as you take your shoes off. You back up but come to a stop against the island in the kitchen. He picks you up, sets you down on the island, and stands in between your legs, grabs your hips, pulls you a little closer to him. He finishes unbuttoning your shirt from earlier and slowly slides it off your shoulders, tossing it to the side. You blush and look away, embarrassed, as he stares at you in awe. He puts his finger under your chin to turn your head back to him, looks you in the eyes, and says,"There's nothing to be embarrassed about, i think you're beautiful with all your stretch marks, no doubt about it,Y/n". You start to cry, tears running down your face and he wipes them away gently with his thumb. You pull him in and kiss him, he kisses you back and you take his shirt off him, toss it to the floor, and slowly run your hand down his chest. He takes you off the island and holds you in his arms as he brings you to his bed. He sets you down gently on the edge of the bed and slides your skirt down your legs, and sees you're wearing a matching red bra and panties with black lace. He smirks and runs his fingers down your body, making you shiver. He curls his fingers on either side of your underwear and slowly slides them down your legs and tosses them on the floor. You try to close your legs but he stops you and says,"It's ok baby, you don't need to feel that way around me, I'll take good care of you". You relax a bit and let him open your legs. He gets down on his knees and puts his face in between your legs and sucks on your clit, making you arch your back, leaning back on your arms and grip the sheets. He runs his tongue up and down your pussy and holds your legs down with his hands, you sit up a bit and grab hold of his hair, making him grunt against your cunt, sending shivers up your spine. He sticks his tongue deeper inside you and you let go of his hair to lean on both of your hands to have better balance. He goes a little bit faster, making you moan,"Oh fuck, that feels so good". You feel your stomach tighten and you say,"Buck, I'm so close, I'm gonna cum". He looks up at you, his eyes full of lust, and moans against your cunt, sending you over the edge. You cum all over his face and he licks up the mess. You kiss him as he reaches behind you and unclips your bra letting your breasts free, you cross your arms over your chest, and he gently grabs your arms, moving them away from your chest and says,"Baby, you don't need to feel that way about yourself, you're gorgeous and I mean that". You crawl away from him to the other end of the bed as he takes his pants off, leaving them on the floor, and slowly crawls on top of you. He kisses you as you palm his dick through his boxers, making him grunt and moan. You stop kissing him and slide his boxers down his legs, letting his dick spring free. You wrap your hand around his dick and slowly run your hand up and down his dick, making him lean his head back and moan in pleasure. You flip him over to lay him on his back and you're on top of him slowly move down, kissing down his chest, making him lean his head back against the headboard. You grab hold of his dick once again and lick his dick before slowly wrapping your mouth around the tip, sliding your mouth the rest of the way down, making him groan.
You start out slow, making him whimper in anticipation, but then you stop, slowly crawl back up his body, kiss him then get off the bed. He watches you walk away, confused then his eyes widen when he sees you have a pair of cuffs in your hand. You get back on top of him and cuff his hands against the headboard, look down at him, with a smirk on your face, and he looks at you and says,"Baby, please take these off me, I want to touch you and hold you close". You shake your head no, kiss and suck his neck, leaving a hickey and crawl back down his body. You slide his dick back into your mouth and start slowly moving your head up and down, making him moan, trying to break free from the handcuffs. You look up at him with and innocent look in your eyes, and swirl your tongue around his dick and go a bit faster. He whimpers and says,"Please Baby, please let me go so i can make you feel good like I said I would and-". He stops mid sentence when you start to massage his balls. He sucks in a breath and bites his lip. "Fuck, baby, I'm so close, please let me cum". Buck says, looking at you with pleading eyes. You suck his dick a bit faster and he yells out,"OH FUCK!!", bucking his hips, releasing inside your mouth. You crawl back up his body and kiss him and as you take the cuffs off him, he flips you over on your back and holds the cuffs in the air, giving you a cheeky smirk. "Oh i dare you". You say, squinting your eyes at him. He smiles and cuffs you to the headboard and moves down, kisses your breasts and sucks your nipples, making you moan. He scoots down a bit and says,"You ready baby?. If it hurts just let me know and I'll stop". You nod your head yes as he aligns his dick with your pussy, slowly sliding into your pussy, throwing his head back in the air, making you arch your back. He start out slow so he won't hurt you and starts kissing your neck, you moan in his ear, telling him to go a little bit faster. He sits up on his knees, grabs your legs, hangs them over his shoulders and fucks you, making you see stars. "Please Buck please take the cuffs off me, i want to touch you". You say, with tears running down your face. He puts your legs down and takes the cuffs off you and as he takes the cuffs off, you pull him to you, kissing him and wrapping your arms around his neck, holding him close as he goes faster, sliding your arms down and digging your nails into his back. He grabs your arms and takes your hands in his, holding them above your head as he kisses and bites your neck, making you sigh. You squeeze his hands, telling him that you're close. He stops kissing your neck and says,"I know baby i know, I'm close too just wait for me ok?". He lets go of one of your hands and run his hand down the side of your face as you nod your head yes. He sits back and pulls you into his lap, sliding you down on his dick, making you moan and lean your head back in pleasure. You wrap your arms around his neck as he wraps his around your waist, holding you close. You bounce up and down his dick as he takes his hands from around your waist and massages your breasts. "Oh fuck, shit, I'm so close". You whimper out. You look down at him as he looks up at you, and he says,"I'm close too baby, let's let go at the same time, oh i love you". He kisses you and you say,"I love you too". He groans,"OH FUCK Y/N!!". as you scream out,"OH BUCK!!!". He releases as you cum around his dick. He slides out of you as you both fall down on the bed, breathin heavily. "So do you think we should tell your sister and everyone else that we were already dating before this?". You giggle, tracing his chest tattoo. "Nah, besides pretty sure they already found out by how we left the bar". He laughs and looks at you. "Yeah, it was pretty fun pretending not to know each other". You say as he pulls you into his chest. He laughs as he runs his hand down your back as you fall asleep, kisses your forehead before falling asleep, holding you in his arms.

You know it’s gonna be surprise party fic time
Tumblr media
Here’s a small part that happens before Eddie and Christopher meet back up with everyone in Buck’s room.
A chuckle sounded out from Bobby only seconds later ”It’s okay, Eddie”, he assured him, placing a hand on his shoulder before Eddie lifted his head out of his hands “I knew after you went to the hospital”, he pointed out
Eddie was confused, there wasn’t many that did know unless he was mistaken ”How? Hen?”, he asked.
Bobby sat down then and just shook his head while he interlocked his fingers “It was indirectly, Chim found the book first”, he answered
Eddie looked immediately stressed, his jaw was set in a way that showed it too “Does that mean that Athena knows too?”, he asked rather quickly
Bobby shook his head at that too “No, come on I’m not about to ruin that. You still have time but this time, maybe, have more people help you. Anyway I know absolutely nothing about this. I also know absolutely nothing about everyone wanting to meet up in Buck’s room”, he answered.
Eddie smiled, feeling the tension leave his body almost immediately “Thanks Bobby”, he said rather gently “For a thing you know nothing about”, he added quickly
Bobby laughed almost immediately ”Exactly”, he responded, tapping his forehead with his index finger “Now, Athena and I are going to be eating here for the next while so...”, he added, gesturing vaguely towards the entry of the cafeteria

Fire-Fam kids Teenage Adventures: Spook Squad
Good Ole Halloween one shot in February. Deal with it.
Tumblr media
Halloween. A day for stupidity, fun, childhood, partying, and teenagers testing tolerance. Okay so maybe they went a bit farther than intended. All of them are sitting on top of Harry's pickup truck while eating the pizza they ordered around an hour ago. Which meant right now it was 9:30 something PM and they were gonna get whooped back home. They had to hand it to Manny though. The view was worth it. Let's rewind shall we?
-------------------------------------------
Earlier that day, Oct. 31 2027 Manny was walking to Chris' house to pick him up, and head to the park nearby to scout potential candy hot houses till Eddie decided against it.
"Hey, mijo! Come in! We've got breakfast pancakes." Manny was still on edge with Mr.D- Eddie. He hated when Manny called him Mister. Ever since the shooting, Manny felt like he let Chris down. He cared about his friends. Especially Chris. When meeting the rest of their family, Athenatold him he reminded her of someone. Someone named Buck.
Manny didn't see it. A tall, handsome, kind, intelligent in the right ways, brave man was something Manny wasn't at all. Snapping out of his thoughts Manny walked up to the front door and wiped his feet on the doormat. Heading inside past Eddie, he removed his Tío Javier's jacket and hung it on the rack.
"Thank you." He said while heading into the kitchen and sat down at the island to get a view of what Buck was cooking. Hearing the noise, the blonde man looked up and turned around. Smiling he greeted the boy who, in Buck's mind, saved his son's life.
"Hey Manny, how'd you sleep?"
"Alright, thanks for asking. Is Chris still asleep? I could come back later?"
"He woke up a while ago. Besides, even if he wasn't awake, I'd still give you pancakes."
"Despite it not being healthy." Eddie's voice echoed from behind Manny who flinched at the suddenness of the man's presence. "Sorry, didn't mean to scare you."
"Oh, hey Manny," Chris said as he neared the island sitting next to his friend. Just as he sat down, Buck placed 3 tier stacked pancakes drizzled in syrup for the boys and had some eggs cooking for him and Eddie. "Thanks, pops."
"Thank you."
"Sure, anytime you wanna come over and join us for food shoot us a text."
"I might just take you up on that. Your food's delicious."
"Kiss ass."
"Hey, that's not very nice," Manny said in response to Chris pretending to be sad. Making the other boy almost spit his food out. After finishing their plates they both walked up to the sink and washed the plates.
"Thanks, boys," Eddie said handing them his and Bucks plates. "What's the plan for Halloween?"
"Probably just hang out at Athena and Bobby's. We were going to take turns playing COD with Harry and Denny. It's funny making weirdos rage on public servers."
"Fair enough."
"So no costumes?"
"Oh, we didn't say that," Manny said smirking at Chris who also had a mischievous smile. The plan was, to go to the house. Wait a while, ask to go to the park with the Halloween carnival, go there for a bit, then take pictures as ghosts with sunglasses. After that, go to the train tracks in the woods and take pictures of ghosts with sunglasses again.
"I don't like that you two have those looks on your faces," Buck said also smiling(hypocrite) while also being slightly terrified. The boys turned around still smiling, making the couple back away into the living room.
"Think they'll be upset?" Manny asked.
"Nah, I'm with you guys. We'll be okay."
-------------------------------------------
When they arrived at the Grant-Nash house, both boys quickly took note of the Wilsons' car and bolted upstairs briefly greeting everyone else. Chimney and Maddie were taking Jee-Yun around the neighborhood with Karen and Hen who were taking Nia. The girls had dressed up as genies with pink and blue hair.
When they entered Harry's room, the two boys were already set up and playing the game. They played for a good two hours before hearing the door open and voices resembling the six people who were missing previously.
Once they knew everyone was settled in, they initiated their plans. Going downstairs they went into the kitchen/dining room area.
"Hey, can we go to the 'Halloween Hangout' at the park? There'll be security guards."
"Like that's gonna make us feel better." Athena retorted her son lovingly. "What do y'all think?" She asked looking at the parents of the other two. Hen and Karen smiled and nodded their heads. Eddie and Buck looked at each other for a bit.
"Why not? It's Halloween. Go have fun mijo." Eddie told him earning a smile. Then he turned to Manny who was busying himself with talking with Nia and Jee-Yun. "Hey Manny, you be careful too okay? Make sure they stay out of trouble."
Feeling under the spotlight, Manny froze for a second but then awkwardly saluted the Latin man.
"Y-yes, sir."
Harry, Denny, and Christopher raised their eyebrows but walked in the direction of the door. Pulling the punk with them. After they walked through the door they heard the adults laughing before shutting the door.
Once at the park, they went to different booths. One where you throw rings on witch hats(Harry won Manny a ghost dog plushie), and multiple snack booths. Once they had enough of popcorn and chocolates, they headed to the swings to take the pictures. After taking the pictures, they went to Little Caesars and went off to the train tracks.
When they found it, they took some random pictures of themselves with and without the costumes. One was Harry and Manny recreating the Max and Chloe train track scene from Life is Strange.
After finishing up the makeshift photoshoot they drove up to the cliffside to eat their pizza. Harry posted the pictures on his Instagram tagging the others. Each of them did the same with their versions and made the trunk comfy for them. Placing the boxes in the middle whilst they sat inside looking out at the city while also watching a Miles Morales Jacksepticeye playthrough from the early 2020s. The dummies ended up falling asleep and woke up to over fifty calls in total from their parents.
The last text message was from Athena saying she found their location and they better bring their asses home within the next hour. They had thirty minutes.
-------------------------------------------
Thank god, for back roads. Manny was shitting himself, squishing Boomy(ghost dog plush) between his arms. Chris was trying to calm him down while Denny told Harry where to go to get back quicker.
When they finally go back, they go back with five minutes to spare. The adults are out on the front porch watching the girls play in the yard and waiting for the quartet. As soon as they got out of the car, Athena got up alongside Eddie and Hen.
"You're lucky we have your locations and your stories. Nice pictures by the way." Semi-smiling, Harry hugged his mom. Denny did the same, apologizing and explaining what happened. When Chris went to hug his dad, Manny stood still and looked down awkwardly. Embarrassed.
Thinking of how badly Eddie probably wanted to punch him. That is til he got pulled into a hug as well.
"Just glad you two are okay." If Manny was holding back tears from spilling out, no he didn't.

Re your theory:
This was literally my first thought after watching it!! I also feel like they set up Bobby and Lucy working together and getting injured in the dispatch fire so it makes sense in my head
Nonnie
I'm so gad you're with me on this - I maintain that they've set up Lucy in such a way that killing her off is actually the most interesting thing they can do with her - it plays into so many storylines perfectly that is almost feels like a wasted opportunity to not kill he roff because lets think about this
I've gone on and on about her being a 'guiding light' for Buck - and she's been serving that purpose - the kiss was the guiding light to get him to a place where he needed to be to break up with Tay Kay, and then the choice to have that Buck-Lucy conversation in Dumb Luck (which just doesn't hit properly because she's supposed to be a seasoned firefighter so why would she need that advice after a lucky call?!) there is also the fact that they spent 5b showing us in the few scenes we got of them working together - that they don't make that great a team - highlighted by the fact that Buck and Eddie were back and even more in sync with each other in May Day. It also adds more significance to Buck saying 'I'm glad it wasn't you' in May day as well - because hello foreshadowing!!! add into this the Buck on a bike - chasing a car Chim is in - well that plays into this too - if Buck is spiralling and being a bit more daredevil - because Lucy has died - especially to try and save Chimney (his brother-in-law) well thats so interesting to me as a storyline - because the punch and the lack of talking about it makes more sense etc
Then there is the fact that they took the time to establish her as someone the firefam liked - Chimneys comment about Buck being the one who has to leave because 'we like Lucy' wasn't just about Bobby finding out about the kiss (although it was about that) - it showed that the rest of the fa have accepted her
then we have the Jonah stuff- having a scene where she talked to him 1:1 and then having her be there when he is arrested - she's probably gonna be trying harder to prove herself to everyone - to show she's not like him - which has the potential for her getting herself into danger (both off and on the job) the Jonah stuff also plays into Bobby, Chim and Hen's storylines -because there is still the fall out from Jonah with CHim and Hen lurking in the background
Eddie crossing himself is another factor - we've never seen him do that before with a patient - not even a child - but if its one of your own - he totally would - because it hits harder - its a reminder that the job is dangerous - and he's just returned to the front line after a break down in part about the dangers of the job and this is interesting because it plays into Eddie being there for Buck in a spiral - just think it might be the catalyst to get them to talk about the shooting (which they still haven' done lets not forget)
then there is the Bobby of it all - we've already seen he's close to breaking point - and what would send him over the edge - than if he loses a team member - and that fits with Athena calling for him in that trailer - something is going down with him being drunk or on drugs etc
I have more - but I'm a bit feral right now and a bit incoherent!!
All in all - Lucy dying is the only thing that makes sense to me!

not to keep harping on 911 becoming 'the buck show' but i think the main reason i dont want the buck coma thing to happen is that it would just be more of the team talking and worrying about buck when we have so much of that already. eddie got shot and everyone was talking about how buck was doing. eddie was the one reassuring buck from his hospital bed. i'd rather see buck maturely handle someone else being hurt instead of him falling to pieces and everyone fawning over him some more.
(I take it your an Eddie fan first? 😉) I hear what you're saying, but I also think the fandom is getting ahead of itself in assuming we're going to see the team "worrying about Buck". We didn't get anything after he was put in the ambulance in 2x18. The aftermath of Buck coughing up blood in 3x01 had concerned Bobby to set up the tsunami arc (Eddie going to Buck's after Bobby said Buck needed to be reminded that he still "has us"), and the lawsuit arc (Bobby blaming himself for letting Buck come back before he was ready and not wanting to have another incident). The one person whose reaction we got both times was his older sister. "Eddie got shot and everyone was talking about how Buck was doing." No offense to you, nonnie, but I feel like this is one of those situations where enough people say something and others start to believe it. Chim talked about how Buck was doing while on the phone. With Maddie. (If the show wasn't using PPD in order to write her out until 5B, she would have been there in person, like always.) Hen and Chim and Albert stayed outside the hospital just in case something happened: Albert: So, what happens now? We just wait for news about Eddie? Chimney: Or until the hospital staff kicks us off the campus. (Which then led to Albert asking why Buck wasn't there, too, and Chim said the line about him having a much harder job at the moment to segue into the Buckley-Diaz scene in Chris's room.)
The rest of the conversation was: Albert asking if firefighters being shot at was a regular occurrence and Chim and Hen congratulating Albert on his post-accident PT being successful. I by "everyone" we're including TayKay...well, yeah, but how else was Kristen gonna prepare us for BT? 🙃 Yes, the two times when Eddie was in danger addressed Buck's emotions, but...doesn't that tell you something? Who was the most visibly concerned when Athena got attacked? Her husband. Who was written to be the most shaken up by Maddie running off to Boston? Chimney. Not her brother. Eddie Begins? Buck is the most freaked out, needs reassurance that the team's not giving up until they find Eddie. Survivors? Bobby lays into Buck for potentially getting himself hurt/killed by the sniper that is still on the loose, realizes Buck did it because he wanted to "make up for" not being able to take the bullet for Eddie - "Buck, what happened to Eddie was not your fault." And, yes, Eddie was reassuring Buck from his hospital bed because he's (unfortunately) been shot before and was ALSO not yet in a headspace where he was ready to show vulnerability. He wanted to be strong for everyone else. TBH, I'm not at all convinced we're going to get real-time scenes to juxtapose the alleged AU beyond a few minutes because it's clearly a one-and-done episode. (I'm thinking it could be like Buck Begins.) The next week (Recovery) should have a worried Maddie, at least. The rest of the firefam...debatable. (We're only getting worried!Eddie if he's not preoccupied with his dating life. 🤪)

911 season 7 episode 3!!!
fjkdf i love when we get a little montage to introduce minor characters in the episode, and i love when that's fun, and i think this family is fun (corey!), but they really got me when the grandmother went "we need to get to the lifeboats. i want a good seat!"
the thing about 911 is. the thing about 911 is that at some point i WILL end up crying a little from the stress of the awful terrible horrible situations these fictional characters end up in
Tumblr media
"dead men don't bleed." bobby throwing out a banger of a revenge western title
"what are you all doing! on the ceiling!!!" that's a VERY good question, norman.
i'm, let's say, a little skeptical of the real world feasability of this rope and climbing rescue plan bobby is executing, but i do love when 911 goes hey! what the fuck! enjoy some action movie shenanigans!
"wish buck could have seen you do that." "honestly, i would have much rather seen buck do that." <3
love the way maddie is trying to have a phone conversation with chim but buck and eddie keep half joining in, like kids in the back seat of the car only catching half the conversation between their parents.
"so who's missing, bobby and athena or hen?" "yes." one of those lines that's extremely obviously something the writers set up for themselves, but i can't fault them for it, because i will admit i do like a corny overused joke.
"how are you feeling?" "like my world's been turned upside-down." man, this is a guy who knows how to milk his situation for fitting witty comments. first the whole gambling thing, now this.
"hen, where are you?" oh, she's just doing illegal paperwork. <3
Tumblr media
dear god. so far, counting the communications officer who died last episode, this is turning out to be a survivable emergency unless you're a black man.
OH. OKAY.
Tumblr media
so this is where tommy shows up!!
"could be why i haven't been getting your christmas cards." fdjkfd.
i felt like i'd probably seen every scene with tommy in it giffed ten different ways by now, but i did NOT see much of this, or realize that this is how he came back into the picture. good for him. he's immediately making up for past bad behavior by randomly having hen's back.
oh, of course. not random!! it's family, doing ill-advised heroic things that should get them fired togetherrrr. <3
Tumblr media
"oh, i think this is an open channel." "do you, buck? do you really?" fjkdfd.
awwww. the 118: WHO CARES. 💪
always a fun time when the guy behind the controls of the helicopter says you're probably all going to die anyway!
lola: "i've never been with another man." norman: "neither have i!" ?? evan buckley, SECOND bi character this season
mr. doctor stepping up!! love that for him!!
"well, unless you feel like swimming back, that's all we've got." i do love this personality they've given tommy!
also, i realize tommy's last name is kinard, which has entirely different origins, but i keep hearing canard, as in french for duck, which would be kind of funny for a man flying over water.
tommy being stupidly willing to go along with the 118's stupid let's-just-maybe-all-die-here-for-hen's-hunch plan! i adore that this is how we're introduced to him again, it's so good, hard not to immediately love him.
guy who's been very rightfully and realistically skeptical of their chances of survival from the start: "but there's nothing out there." [helicopter noises] < continuing the tradition of characters with a normal reasonable view of the world being smugly proven wrong on this show, fjdkfd.
the thank you for choosing oceanis blue last words, oh my god. very goofy.
"i'm not supposed to go with strangers." corey, i love you.
"what are we gonna do?" "we're gonna keep trying." damn if that isn't bobby coming up with a way better line than buck's off the top of his head. the 118: we're gonna keep trying.
fjdkfd sorry but if you're bobby trying to rescue a little kid and the door above you closes up and you can't get it open and the water keeps rising and you're about to drown (again), and then the door DOES suddenly pop open and buck and eddie in full gear are grinning down at you when there's supposed to be absolutely ZERO chance of them even being on this sinking ship in the middle of the ocean in a hurricane to begin with, i think that maybe, for at least a quick second there, you might think that this time you finally did die.
ohoho! see this, of course, i did see giffed.
Tumblr media
hen thanking maddie is good. bobby calling hen captain is great. bobby and athena getting back home and taking their fast food into the bedroom is lovely. love when there's at least a little time to wind down from the episode. <3

OPE those guns o.o
Yeah that does not look good xd
Hmm who are we telling that we're referring to them as Captain Nash and his wife?
Oh gosh them all 😭😭 they all look so worried :(( 🥺💔❤️
Understandable xD
Uhh is that a bomb o.o
Yeah that's very Bobby
Uhh ohh y'all 😬😬
🥺🥺 BOBBYY
Yeah of course he is xD an icon lol <3
UHH OHHH 😭😭😬
Y'all when I tell you I am NERVOUS
STRESSED AND STRESSIN xDD
This better all end up okay lol
Including their relationship because that's one I'm most scared for xD
Okay, that's the last of my last thoughts, so now it's time for the. . .
REVIEW
AAAHHHHHHH I'm so glad to have my babeys back :D.
Now, given that I'm writing this part on the day of episode 3 and I haven't watched episode 2 yet lol, this will be very short. I might come back and edit later xD.
BUDDIEEEE!!! I'm telling you they're a family. Why are they such a family? I don't know. Anyway poor Chris 😭😭💔❤️. That scene at the end, with the letter, was so good <33. And oh my gosh don't even TALK to me about Buck talking to Christopher and then it planning to Eddie in the hall 😭😭. I was not okay over that and I'm still not <3. Also, a callback to Eddie's panic attacks by having him use a strategy to help that woman was so cool :'DD. He slayed <33. Also the joke after?? They're so in love, your honor <33.
Hen! Don't remember much of what she was up to but she slayed :)). And she's doing great as Captain 🥰🥰! Also her not feeding into Athena's delusions xD (although we of course find out that they aren't but yk it's just a funny moment lol).
Chimney and Maddie! Chim stressing was a mood lol xd. And honestly, making sure you make time for yourselves amongst your jobs, child, and wedding planning is a good idea! But don't try that hard lol. Like y'all figured out, you don't need to :). But yeah, I'm glad they just decided to relax <3. Love them 🥰🥰.
Bobby and Athena! I be slightly concerned for them o.o. I'm sure everything'll be fine in the end relationship wise, but it's stressful xd. And poor Bobby 😭. I promise it's not something you've done Bobby xd. Anyway, SLAY on the investigating though lol :D. And even though I feel for him I'm glad Bobby set aside their issues and had his priorities straight lol xD. Anyway, hopefully all goes well with those pirates 😬.
Overall, I really enjoyed this episode! It's so good to be back :D. I think the cruise ship is a really unique disaster - as are the issues with Bobby and Athena's relationship lol. By that I just mean, it's interesting/nice (even though it hurts) to see some struggles for them (that aren't external) :). There were also really great moments with everybody else, and I'm glad we got to see home ans the ship! Plus, there was a good spread of focus today :). Anyway, I'm a little nervous about the next episode, but I'm sure everything will be alright. It better be lol. Also, the calls were really cool today :O.
So, yeah! I loved this episode, I thought it was great :D. It was lovely seeing my babeys again :). I'm so excited for the next episode! This has been my review of. . .
9-1-1, Season 7, Episode 1: Abandon Ships
It was amazing! I'm interested to see how everything's gonna go down on the boat, and people's reactions. I'll be back here next time with my review of. . .
9-1-1, Season 7, Episode 2: Rock the Boat
See you then!

while i'm not a fan of the drunken hook up i do have something i would like to say. it's safe to say the mid season premiere the start of 7B is going to be the madney wedding, why is that not the finale? So that means what Tim has planned for the rest of 7B is not colluminating at the wedding. And to me the only reason the wedding is in the premiere is because one of the main plotlines for upcoming episodes post wedding is going to be fallout from the wedding. Just like how in S5B the plotline for the half was set up in the mid season premiere, so it's safe to say the plotline for 7B is going to be set up in the mid season premiere. Okay so Madney are married in the hospital and everything is great. Okay so what's the fallout from the wedding? That's where I get to the Buck and Eddie of it all, logically those are the only two characters in the main cast that could have fallout from the wedding. Madney are happily married so it's not them. Hen looks flawless as the best women so clearly not her. Bobby and Athena look great at the wedding and Bobby is gonna officiate their wedding at the hospital. So what at the wedding has to happen to deal with fallout from the wedding involving Buck and Eddie to set up the remainder of 7B. Just like in previous seasons the mid season premiere sets up the remainder of the season. So if Madney get married in the mid season premiere that means the fallout from events at the wedding is going to drive the plotline for 7B and IMO that is going to be about Buck and Eddie and what happened between them. While I'm not a fan of this storyline, I do see the logic behind this decision and this would absolutely lead to a massive plotline through the rest of 7B on par with Buck getting struck by lightning or Buck cheating on Taylor and Eddie leaving the 118, etc.
Hmm, kinda agree, kinda disagree. I'm not sure if they'll have a meaningful A/B season divider this season since it's only ten episodes. Yeah we have the two week break, but still.
Putting aside the amount of speculation-treated-as-confirmed-things in this ask, I do see the potential of having the wedding set some storylines up for the rest of the season, but I don't think the other couples are exempt from having Something Happening To Them just because they're solid and strong. I've loved what they've shown of Bobby and Athena so far this season, and I'd very much like to see the show continue to explore their relationship, for example. However, "something happens to buddie" and "drunken hookup" are still wildly different things. The former is plausible, the latter simply isn't.

Day 9: Lie
Reserved by @kasey-writes-stuff
Reblog first, like later please, reblogs do more
You can still reserve unmarked days
Please check my writing list before you request
Another short one
"Sometimes I forget how nice it is to have a childless house" Chimney sighed, relaxing into Hen's couch, casually sipping the wine they were sharing. Denny was at Athena's for a sleep over and Buck had Jee-Yun for the night since Maddie was working late.
"Yeah, especially at that age, that's gonna be the toughest age for a while." Hen and Chimney met up for a few drinks to decompress after their shift. Going through about a bottle and a half of red wine, feeling the light buzz it caused. Both having random conversations and lazy forms of affection. Chim makes an off hand comment about Hen's 'sensitivity' which causes Hen to pull a face and shake her head.
"I don't know where you got that information, but it's not true." Chimney scoffed rather loudly at Hen's response, raising his eyebrows at her.
"You're really lying to me right now? We both know that's not true." Hen shook her head again, finishing her glass before setting it on the table. Chimney began poking at her, anywhere he could reach without moving from his comfortable position, her sides, her stomach, her ribs, her hips. Her tipsy state made it impossible for her to try to hide her reactions, she giggled almost hysterically, scrunching up her face, weakly batting at his hand.
"StohohoOHOP!"
"You're lucky I'm tired man, if I wasn't so comfortable I would wreck your shit."

The Holiday Season
Buck spends an eventful Christmas holiday with Christopher and Eddie. His first as Eddie's fiance and Christopher's dad.
Read on ao3 here
“Buck, Buck! Dad! Wake up! It’s Christmas Eve, you gotta get up!”
“Wha-?”
Buck was barely awake enough to brace himself as Christopher clambered onto the bed, flopping down right in the center of Buck’s chest. Two small hands held his cheeks, and he leaned in to press their noses together as he spoke.
“Buck, get up.”
Buck slowly opened his eyes, going cross-eyed as he tried to focus on Chris. Eddie groaned next to him, rolling over and blinking blearily at them.
“Good, you’re up,” Christopher said, sitting up but not moving from his position on Buck’s chest. He said it as if he’d already forgotten that it was his commotion that had ripped them from their peaceful sleep.
“Chris it’s seven thirty,” Eddie said, voice bordering on whiny.
“It’s Christmas Eve.”
“Yeah, I understand that buddy. But it is way too early to be awake.”
“But we have stuff to do today.”
“Yeah we do,” Buck held Chris tightly and rolled, depositing him on the mattress between him and Eddie. “But all of those things don’t happen until later. Much later. So your Dad and I would really like to go back to sleep for a little bit if that’s okay with you. You don’t have to go back to sleep but you’ve gotta be quiet, so you can stay here with us and watch the iPad quietly, or go play in your room until we get up.”
“I wanna stay here,” he decided, curling up snugly between them. Buck handed him the tablet from where it was charging on the bedside table and got him set up with his cartoons and a pair of headphones.
“Nice save,” Eddie whispered once he was thoroughly engrossed in his show.
“I try.”
In the end, the shows bought them an extra hour of sleep, which was slightly more than Buck had been hoping for, to be honest. This wasn’t the first time he’d been on the receiving end of Christopher’s holiday excitement, but it was the first time he’d experienced it so early in the morning. This was the first time he was waking up on Christmas morning with Eddie and his son.
It had taken them a lot to get to this point, but Buck had never been happier to experience the holidays with his two favorite boys. Since he’d met Eddie, they’d spent the holiday together in some capacity. The first year, Shannon had returned to their lives, and he hadn’t wanted to feel like he was overstepping. But Eddie had invited him over the day after Christmas for games and to exchange their presents. The next year, they’d been working on Christmas Eve but Buck had found a way for them to spend it together regardless. This year though was his first Christmas as an official member of the Diaz family. Eddie would argue that he’d been a member of their family since they met, but Buck felt truly established now, with Eddie’s engagement ring on his finger.
“So give me to holiday run down,” Buck said, once they had sent Chris off to get dressed and ready.
“Okay, Abuela’s today for brunch, then Bobby and Athena’s for dinner. Tomorrow, we’ll open presents here and have lunch with Maddie and Chim. Shannon should be picking Chris up around five tomorrow and he’ll spend the rest of the weekend with her and she’s gonna drop him off sometime Monday after our shift.”
“I’m glad she got the time off work to spend with him. Partly because I’m gonna need a seventy-two-hour nap to be functional after this weekend.”
“Don’t tempt me with a good time.”
Buck should have been more grateful for Christopher’s early wake-up call since they ultimately ended up being late trying to get everything together. They were the last ones to make it to the house, but the food wasn’t quite ready yet as they made their way inside.
“Buckaroo,” Athena greeted. “Rough morning?”
“Chris woke us up at seven-thirty,” he explained, moving into the kitchen to deposit his and Eddie’s contributions to their meal on the counter.
“And you were still late?” Hen teased.
“We gave him the iPad and fell back asleep. Guess we should have stayed awake.”
“Denny was up at five,” Karen sympathized. “I’ve lost count of how many cups of coffee I’ve had.”
“You look like you need this,” Bobby shoved a warm mug into his hands.
“Bobby you’re a live saver. What is it about Christmas Eve anyway? I know we have things going on today, but Chris was acting like he normally does on Christmas morning.”
“It’s the anticipation. They know they’re getting presents at every party today so they can’t contain themselves.”
“I don’t miss that about having young kids,” Athena said. “If all of you weren’t coming, May and Harry would have slept until well into the afternoon.”
“How much longer until we reach that point?” Eddie asked, leaning over Buck’s shoulder and stealing his coffee cup, grimacing at the amount of sugar, but taking another drink anyway.
“Don’t wish it away you two. They grow up too fast.”
Buck couldn’t help but agree. There were times in the last couple of years that he wished time would slow down. Christopher was only nine, and he knew realistically that they had a few more years of Chris waking them up early in his excitement. As much as he didn’t enjoy waking up early when he wasn’t on shift, he loved seeing his son’s face light up as he tore into his gifts. Eddie had told him what it was like, seeing Christmas through the eyes of your kid, but Buck couldn’t have imagined it until he was living it himself.
“Food is ready,” Bobby called out into the living room. “Come and eat.”
Buck helped Christopher make his plate and settled him at the table between himself and Eddie. It was loud, as they sat around the table eating and chatting, a dozen different conversations mixing together around him. He wouldn’t trade this for anything. Christmas with his found family was more than he had ever hoped for as a kid.
The plates were barely cleared when the kids began shouting about it being present time. Each child had a gift from Bobby and Athena, but to make things simpler, the team and their partners had drawn names for Secret Santa. Buck had drawn Athena and he’d never had a harder time shopping for someone. He’d had to call in reinforcements in the form of Hen, swearing her to secrecy. In the end, he’d gotten her a gift certificate for a massage at a fancy new spa downtown.
Maddie insisted they do gifts at random, spinning a wheel on her phone to choose who would go next because it was “more fun this way”. Bobby had chosen his name and his gift had almost brought him to tears. It was a cookbook of all of Bobby’s recipes, handwritten by the Captain. He fought valiantly against the tears, but they’d ultimately fallen when Bobby pulled him into a hug and whispered that the blank pages in the back were for his own recipes that he created with his family.
Karen had drawn Eddie and had managed to score tickets to the Rangers vs Phillies game in the Spring. It was a sort of joint present for him and Buck, but Eddie, the bigger baseball fan had made a Christopher-like face of excitement when he opened them.
Eddie’s pick had been Bobby, and his gift for the Captain had been a hit. It was a World’s Greatest Dad mug, signed by each member of the team. Bobby had gotten a kick out of it, immediately going to the kitchen to wash it and fill it with coffee.
After the gifts had been exchanged, he and Eddie had gathered Christopher to take him to their next event. They’d stayed at Bobby and Athena’s much longer than they meant to and they only had an hour to make it to Abuela’s. She’d requested that Buck and Eddie come early, telling Buck that it was time for him to learn how to make her famous tamales.
“Thank Bobby and Athena for your gift buddy,” Eddie had reminded as the couple walked them out, assisting them with the armfuls of leftovers they’d all but forced them to take home.
“Thank you,” Chris said happily, clutching the new lego set to his chest. He’d already requested that Buck help him build it when they got home from Abuela’s house.
“Thank you for brunch,” Buck kissed Athena’s cheek and gave Bobby a quick hug.
“Of course Buckaroo. You two have a good night.”
“And Merry Christmas,” Bobby added.
The drive to Abuela’s house from Bobby’s wasn’t long, but Buck found himself nearly falling asleep in the passenger seat as Eddie drove. When he glanced back at Chris in the rearview mirror, he found his son in a similar state, head falling to the side as he dozed. Eddie carried him inside, depositing him in Abuela’s bed to nap until dinner was ready.
Eddie was immediately banished from the kitchen, being told to sit at the counter and not touch anything. Buck had taken pity on him and let him help chop the vegetables for the sides, knowing there was no way Eddie could make them inedible. Eventually, Eddie moved into the living room to see his sister Sophia and his niece who had come up from El Paso. His parents, thankfully, were not going to be in attendance. They were working on their relationship, and it had improved, but family gatherings made things unnecessarily tense. Instead, they had decided to stay in Texas with Adrianna and her fiance, Eddie, and Chris planning to take a trip down for a few days when Chris’s school was out on spring break.
Abuela sang along in Spanish to the music playing from the speaker as she moved around the kitchen, occasionally giving Buck instructions. When the tamales were steaming, she’d sent Buck out of the kitchen and into the living room to mingle. He slotted himself into Eddie’s side on the couch, resting his chin on his shoulder and listening to the conversation Eddie and Sophia were having. He wasn’t sure what they were talking about, just content to listen to the rumble of Eddie's voice as he spoke.
“Hey babe,” Eddie turned to acknowledge him as Sophia was called away by her daughter.
“Mm, hi.”
“How did cooking with Abuela go?”
“Tamales are hard. But she promised to write down her recipe so I could work on making them at home.”
“Good, you’ve gotta earn your keep somehow,” Eddie teased.
“As if washing your sweaty socks isn’t enough.”
Eddie laughed and kissed the side of his head, “We should probably go get Chris. Food will be ready soon and his mom is almost here.”
“I didn’t know Shannon was coming.”
Buck and Shannon, surprisingly, had gotten along really well. A little too well for Eddie’s taste if he was being honest with himself. Things had been rocky at first, with Buck and Eddie dancing around their feelings for each other in the months leading up to the divorce being finalized. But once they had settled into a routine with co-parenting and Buck and Eddie had finally gotten together, Shannon and Buck became fast friends. They were often the ones to text each other to communicate pick-up and drop-off for Christopher on her weekends or for Buck to tell her about school events where Chris had requested her presence (as much as they both loved Eddie, he was horrible with dates and it was much easier to cut out the middle man when it came to things like that).
“Yeah, Abuela invited her, figured it would be nice since we’re all on good terms now.”
“I agree.”
As if on cue, the door opened and Shannon stepped in, holding a plate of cookies that looked homemade.
“Shannon,” Buck stood to greet her, giving her a hug and taking the plate from her hand. “I’ll take these to Abuela.”
“That better not be code for ‘I’m going to hide and eat them all’,” she chuckled, but relinquished the plate.
“I would never.”
“Where’s Chris?”
“I was just about to go get him,” Eddie answered. “He wore himself out at our team brunch this morning and fell asleep on the way over. Buck put him in Abuela’s room to sleep for a bit,” Eddie stood and pulled her into a hug, kissing her cheek. “It’s good to see you.”
“You too Eddie. I’ll go grab him if you want.”
“Sounds good. I’m gonna go make sure Buck doesn’t eat all of the cookies.”
When Shannon returned with Christopher in tow, they all gathered for Abuela to lead them in grace before digging into the spread of food.
“The tamales turned out great Buck,” Eddie complimented.
“You made these?” Shannon asked, mildly impressed.
“Abuela did most of the hard work.”
“You were the best helper mijo,” Abuela complimented, everyone laughing when Buck ducked his head to hide his blush.
Buck felt as if he’d gained twenty pounds by the time they finished eating. Eddie echoed his sentiment, leaning back in his chair next to Buck.
“Is it present time?” Christopher asked once the plates were cleared and the adults were sitting around talking.
“Yes,” Abuela declared. “Present time.”
They all moved into the living room, Eddie, Shannon, and Buck squeezing onto one couch, with Christopher in his dad’s lap. There weren’t as many children there, not nearly as many as there would have been with all of Eddie’s extended family so the opening of presents didn’t take long.
Chris received a few books from Abuela and a new set of dinosaur figurines from Pepa. Each of the older grandchildren, Buck and Shannon included, got money from Abuela, who said it took all of the guesswork out of gift-giving.
Eventually, the excitement died down, Sophia and her daughter left, saying they needed to get home and rest before their flight back. Some of the other cousins retired too, leaving just Eddie, Buck, and Shannon. Chris stretched out across his lap, reading through one of his new books with Shannon while Eddie helped Abuela and Pepa clean up.
“Buck,” Chris whispered.
“Yeah, buddy?”
“I’m tired,” he turned his head into Buck’s belly, snuggling close to him.
“Me too Chris. Wanna see if we can wrangle your dad and head home?”
“Yeah.”
“Okay buddy, let me up.”
Buck made his way into the kitchen rounding up Eddie so that they could head home. Shannon helped Chris out to the car, hugging him as she helped him into the seat.
“Bye, Mom. I’ll see you tomorrow.”
“I love you, Christopher. You three drive safe.”
“We will.”
Chris was asleep by the time they were halfway home and Buck didn’t bother to wake him up again, just carried him inside and deposited him into bed.
“I wanna sleep so bad,” Buck grumbled, falling face-first on the couch and into Eddie’s lap.
“Me too babe. But we have to play Santa.”
They snuck around the house as quietly as possible, putting Chris’s presents from Santa under the tree. Buck had wrapped them in different paper to distinguish them from the ones he and Eddie had gotten him. They sat on the couch with the plate of cookies between them, eating enough to make it look like Santa had eaten them, and Buck even took a bite out of the carrot Chris had insisted on leaving for the reindeer.
Once everything was set up, they moved into their bedroom and fell into bed, practically falling asleep before their heads hit the pillows.
“Buck, Buck! Dad! Wake up! It’s Christmas, you gotta get up!”
Chris gave them a replay of their wake-up from the morning before, dragging his parents out of bed and into the living room for gifts. He tore into them with uncontained excitement, Buck sitting back to watch. Eddie appeared at his side with two cups of coffee, handing him one and keeping the other for himself.
“Thanks, babe,” he leaned over for a quick kiss.
They leaned against each other, watching as Chris’s excitement built with every gift he unwrapped. When they were all opened and the three of them were surrounded by crumpled wrapping paper and ribbons, Chris settled down with one of his new toys.
“We should probably clean up all this paper,” Buck said, leaning his head on Eddie’s shoulder.
“We’ll get it later. Just enjoy the moment.”
Eddie kissed the top of his head as they huddled together on the floor, watching their son.“Merry Christmas Buck.” “Merry Christmas Eddie.”

i feel like a lot of my issue with 6a so far is it almost feels disjointed, both the storylines and the tone, things haven't flowed or whatever. so there's been individual episodes and scenes that are great but it hasn't all quite gelled for me yet. (thought i'm still giving it time)
Im with you friend! And forgive me but I’m gonna use your ask to just ramble for a second here.
Lets look at what what we’ve gotten in these first 8 episodes shall we?
6x01: a very lackluster premiere. Some Madney feels, a little Buckley Diaz family. But overall? Alright.
6x02: some good Hen stuff but very disjointed overall.
6x03: a heavy Bathena episode but yall know I was not a fan of that episode. I’m black, I know what our trauma looks like. I didnt need a reminder. But it was good ep for Athena
6x04: good moments with Eddie, the sperm donor story begins. Hen decides to try again
6x05: i dont even remember what happened in this one…i know Eddie looked hot at the end though. Oh! They made the young black dispatcher a criminal! How could I forget🥴
6x06: HENREN! BEST EPISODE THIS SEASON.
6x07: lots of Eddie. Buck being used for laughs. Fun but…?
And lastly tonight’s episode…what really happened? Uncle Buck was adorable. athena/may was cool.
I say all this to say, good moments do not a great season make. And that doesn’t mean that I hate what we’ve gotten. Ive enjoyed it for the most part but its been a very slow crawl to the finale. There’s really no thread that ties these episodes together. I feel like fandom has found things to dissect each week, but to the casual viewer I’m sure these episodes are just…alright.
I want more Maddie in general. More Chim! Haven’t gotten a lot of him outside of work. I want more Hen and Chim! They are best friends! And speaking of besties, I definitely would like more Buck and Eddie. Yea I ship them but in canon they are best friends! Best friends hang out outside of work! I miss those dynamics outside of the firehouse.
Like you, I am hopeful! We still have 10 episodes left in the season so I’m hoping it picks up a bit in 6B. I need some high stakes emergencies! This is a show about first responders, more specifically a firehouse and they have fought what? One fire? two I guess if you count what we’ll get in 6x09😅
I know what this show is capable of (HELLO! SEASON 3!), so I think its ok to be a bit disappointed when its not living up to their own previously set standards. And again, just cause I think this season is a little slow doesn’t mean I’m not having fun! It just means I know I could be having more fun(again. SEASON 3! 10 10 10’S ACROSS THE BOARD)

I hated 5a but it was saved by ep 6 and 8, then we got 5b and it was really good, then kr got scared of buddie and decided that for all 6a they shouldnt have scenes together anymore. I appreciate the effort of blog talking about the narrative but even without the romantically shipping them we went from 2 best friends to 2 people that just work together
I'm gonna be honest and say I didn't care for 5b for the most part either because the cheating, tay kay nonsense, and L of it all forcing Eddie and Madney/Chim's stuff into the background ruined a lot of it for me. 🤷🏻‍♀️🤷🏻‍♀️🤷🏻‍♀️ (RIP to everyone who decided to follow me recently for Buddie stuff and missed the "salt gremlin" in my "about" section but this is a hate space for characters I Do Not Enjoy and that includes tay kay and L. Feel free to unfollow, or block the anti tags accordingly. I don't fuck with things that are a waste of time and take time, arcs, and storylines away from main characters, characters I actually want to see, and things that actually push the main character's stories along.)
When even the GA and people who very much state they do NOT ship Buddie are baffled at the choice to sideline their relationship entirely and are asking what the show is doing you know it's an issue. However, I will disagree and say that KR didn't get "scared" of Buddie suddenly after season 5, because she's never particularly liked or cared about Eddie as a character to begin with. We all saw 4x14 and how she sidelined the firefam from Eddie's shooting (they weren't even allowed at his welcome home party! You're telling me tay kay was in Eddie's Covid bubble and cleared to be unmasked around his kid but the firefam weren't?! Please), and sidelined Eddie himself from the whole thing, skipping his (and Bobby's) whole recovery and making the whole thing about Buck and forcing BT. In fact, had Tim not insisted on the scene of Buck telling Chris about Eddie being hurt, and The Will scene, we would have gotten barely any Chris OR Eddie even having LINES much less scenes in the whole episode! Girl has NEVER cared for Eddie or for Buddie and it shows. 6a was just her finding another excuse to not have them interact and because nothing was happening AT work, or in anyone's live OUTSIDE of work, there was no reason for them to have scenes. Like, 90% of 6a could have been an email and the big things that did happen with Henren and Athena haven't come up again or affected anything much outside of that one episode. Athena more so than Henren since I *think* Karen almost dying will come back up in the whole "bio-father" storyline, but Athena has had not a single mention of what happened in her big episode, or a talk with her BFF Hen about how it changed her perspective on things, or gave her closure, or anything.
It's just bad arc planning and episode pacing, and it's not exclusive to Buddie. Let's talk about Madney not even getting to go to couples therapy or talk about breaking up, or talk about getting back together, or have any kind of deep, hard-but-ultimately-healing conversation before moving back in together and buying a house. Boston was SUCH a good episode and everything after that has been off screen or a blink and you'll miss it moment. Regardless of any on set/film time limits for JLH, we could still have more Chim focus and make the time they DO have for JLH count for something.

For the ask game if you're still taking prompts! It's got to be Buddie with: "I really shouldn't be surprised, and yet."
"I really shouldn't be surprised, and yet."
Eddie doesn't jump at the words, nor the sudden presence at his side. He'd clocked her as soon as she entered, has been keeping half an eye on her as she made her way around the glittering ballroom, talking to people, enjoying champagne and hors d'oeuvres. He'd half hoped she wouldn't notice them, but Hen and Buck have been working the room all night, both of them decked out to the nines (Eddie's hands have been itching to peel Buck out of that fitted tux practically since the moment he put it on). He leans back against the wall he's been unobtrusively hugging all night, tilting his own champagne flute back and forth contemplatively.
"Agent Grant," he says neutrally. "What brings you out tonight? You look lovely, by the way." He lifts his drink in a little salute, smirking when her eyes narrow dangerously. It's not a lie, of course. She does look beautiful, statuesque in a pale gold strapless dress that hugs her like a second skin, tiny crystals sparkling every time she moves under the lights. Bobby's gonna be disappointed he opted to run the op from the kitchens tonight.
Although those miniature mushroom and spinach quiches are delicious, so Eddie's not complaining.
"What are you doing here, Diaz?" Agent Grant asks sharply, the grim set of her mouth daring him to try and bullshit her.
Eddie takes a sip of his champagne, grimacing a little at how warm it's gotten and flagging down a waiter to take it away. Regretfully, he waves away the offer of a fresh glass. Chimney and Bobby assured him the chances of his particular skillset being needed are minimal, but minimal is not zero and he's not risking his head being even slightly clouded with Hen and Buck so out in the open.
He shoots Agent Grant a lazy grin, just because he knows it'll irritate her. He likes her (and Buck freaking adores her for some reason...Eddie suspects it's mostly because Bobby is so far gone on Athena Grant that it's not even funny, and Buck likes anything that makes Bobby happy) but he's not entirely sure they can trust her, yet. Sure, she's looked the other way for them on a few different ops, but she's also helped the FBI burn down some really good aliases Chim set up for them.
"I can't just be here for the shrimp puffs and free champagne?"
Agent Grant does not look impressed. "Uh huh. And that's not Wilson currently schmoozing every bigwig in this place while Buck robs them blind."
"Buck's not robbing anyone blind," he says, immediately defensive of his boyfriend.
*Buck, put that bracelet back...that's not what we're here for.* Bobby's put upon voice over the coms immediately makes him a liar, and he's just grateful Agent Grant can't hear them.
*Aw, Bobby! That's vintage Cartier! Do you know how much those go for? Besides, I was getting it for Karen.*
*You are not shopping for Hen and Karen's anniversary gift in the middle of an operation,* Bobby replies sternly.
*Well now hold on, hold on...Buck has excellent taste in jewelry. You think she'd like it, Buckaroo?* Hen jumps into the conversation, and Chimney's line is suddenly filled with the clacking of keys.
*Absolutely! Tricolor gold braid, diamond setting, circa 1950? Fifteen to twenty thousand, easy. Oh, and I mean, it's pretty. I think it would look pretty on Karen.*
Eddie can't help a snort of laughter. One couldn't really say Buck had excellent taste--his boy is mostly just drawn to all things pretty, sparkly, or soft--but he does have a superb eye for jewelry. Especially high end, very valuable jewelry.
*If it helps, the lady Buck just lifted that bracelet off of recently cut her company's parental leave policy from 12 weeks paid to 4 weeks, citing budget concerns, and rhen gave herself and her board of directors a ten percent salary increase,* Chimney supplies helpfully, drawing a squawk of outrage from Buck.
The squawk sounds like it's in stereo, and Eddie looks up to find Buck himself only a couple feet away from him.
"Well shit, I'm going back for the matching earrings before we're done here. Athena! Hi! You look gorgeous!" A wide, sunshine-bright grin splits his face, and he leans in close, smiling even wider when Agent Grant rolls her eyes, but tilts her cheek up for Buck to kiss. She's always had a soft spot for Buck. Most people who meet him do, honestly.
Eddie had certainly lasted all of 24 hours, even with Buck being kind of a dick to him when Bobby first brought him onboard.
"Hello Buck. I'm going to ignore what I just heard about you stealing earrings. Now, back to my original question...what are you all doing here?"
Some of Buck's enthusiasm at seeing Agent Grant dies away, and he steps back to lean against the wall with Eddie. Eddie automatically winds his arm around Buck's trim waist, splaying his hand across his hip. Buck relaxes against him, briefly turning to drop a kiss on the corner of Eddie's mouth.
"What do you think we're doing here?" Eddie asks carefully. Agent Grant sighs heavily.
"Diaz. Buck. I am asking you not to interfere, here. Greenway has three federal agencies investigating him. We are going to get him on something, I guarantee it."
Eddie opens his mouth to reply, but Buck beats him to it.
"Right, I'm sure Mike Caulfield's family will feel really good when Jonah Greenway gets three years probation for tax evasion." His voice is hard, flat. Eddie slides his hand to the small of Buck's back, rubbing soothing circles with his thumb.
Mike Caulfield had died in a freak accident at one of Jonah Greenway's factories almost a year ago, leaving behind a pregnant wife and two children under the age of ten. Cases with kids always hit them hard, but Buck takes them even more personally. It had been obvious from the start that safety measures at the factory had been lax, but the evidence is piling up that Mike Caulfield had been about to turn whistleblower on just how lax Greenway Industries was on all their properties...and Greenway found out.
Forget tax evasion, they're gonna nail Jonah Greenway for murder and make sure Mike Caulfield's family is taken care of for the rest of their lives.
"Buck, the system is in place for a reason," Agent Grant tries, and Eddie winces as Buck goes completely still under his hands.
He doesn't have to look to know that his boyfriend's face has gone entirely blank, his beautiful blue eyes like two flat chips of ice. It's the expression that always makes Eddie's stomach clench unpleasantly, makes him want to hunt down everyone who ever hurt Buck or took advantage of him (and he knows more about Buck's past than anyone else except maybe Maddie, but there are still things Buck won't talk about, won't share).
"The system only works if everyone in the system wants it to, Athena. And people like Greenway definitely don't." He flicks a look out over the ballroom. "If you'll excuse me, I need to go get a keycard and then bust Chimney into Greenway's office. Kiss for luck?" He turns to Eddie, some of the warmth returning to his eyes, and Eddie obligingly slides his hand into Buck's sandy brown hair, mussing up the gel holding his curls in check just a little, and kisses him thoroughly.
"You don't need luck," he says with a laugh, biting down om Buck's plush lower lip just a little. And it's true...his boy certainly looks like he fits more in Eddie's line of work, but Buck's reputation for getting in and out of places he shouldn't be is second to none. Watching him crack a safe is a thing of beauty.
Buck smiles at him, tips a little wave at Agent Grant, and melts into the crowd. Eddie watches him approach their target, already thoroughly distracted by Hen, and then turns back to Agent Grant.
"You gonna try and stop us?" he asks, cocking a challenging eyebrow.
Agent Grant, also watching Buck as he weaves his way through the crowd, drains her champagne flute. "You really think you can nail him?" she asks finally.
Eddie's smile is feral when he answers. "To the wall," he assures. And then, because he does like her, and he also wants Bobby to be happy, he tilts his head a little. "There's always room for one more on the team, you know. You don't even have to be a con artist. Hen's wife does a lot of research for us...Buck's sister does a lot of our recon."
Maddie Buckley also usually drives the getaway car, but Agent Grant doesn't need to know that.
She shoots him a sideways glare, picking up one of Bobby's canapes when a waiter carrying a loaded tray passes. But Eddie doesn't think he's imagining the look of consideration in her eyes.
"Have a good night, Agent Grant. Enjoy the show." He winks at her, and then heads off into the crowd himself. Buck is making his way towards the elevators, and Hen might need help creating another distraction.
