Okay, so, Napoleon centred crack oneshot (extremely self indulgent so don't mind that) where mc takes all of the residents to Egypt for whatever reason because plot convenience and does not want Napoelon to come along because Egypt campaign and everything and, after a lot of bribery and a few tears and one mc because weak to puppy dog eyes, is convinced to let him come along under the condition that he needs to not fall out of a Tok tok (a three wheeled vehicle we have in Egypt that goes really fast because the drivers don't care about the speed limit) going as fast as possible around a roundabout (I do not recommend, I could not feel my legs for a solid few hours after doing this very same thing) and it's all just filled with a lot of screaming, a surprisingly proud mc because Napoleon isn't weak and would probably manage because he isn't an idiot (mostly) and ends with a weird kind of fluff where mc treats him to crepes and nice Egyptian desserts ✨

Napoleon falls face-first into dust. Comte did not have enough time to introduce asphalt roads to XIX century France. (The construction crews were all booked until the end of July). He lifts his gaze, Mitsuki staring down at him with stern eyes.

"You pass," she sniffs, a singular crystal-clear and mountain-spring-cool tear rolling down from the corner of her eye. "Come now, we shall dine."

"Mitsuki?" Napoleon asks.

"Crepes first, 'Leon. The dessert comes last," Arthur shouts from below one hundred layers of sunscreen. Very well. If the ghost of the mansion says so, that must be the law.

SIGNALIS SPOILERS AND WHATNOT~~

finished my second playthrough of signalis, was going for the artifact ending. then loaded my save and got the memory ending. such a good game aaaa

the memory ending made me cry, it was really heartwrenching when ariane said sorry i dont remember, i just crumpled. watching elster be so exhausted was a lot.

not really sure if i understand the artifact ending. i feel like either its really vague (on top of all the other vagueness) or if im missing something. it kind of feels like a burial of arianes memory? like elster dies and we see ariane thikning about her and elster dancing in the wrecked ship? i’m not sure. maybe someone could give me their interpretation of it?

i also found out that theres a difficulty setting and really wished i had set it to survival before my second playthrough. woulda been nice!!! I do have one more ending so i might play the game again but might also just watch it on youtube and play the game again some other time(gotta let it ruminate so i can go back in with different eyes), I wanna get all the achievements anyways.

all in all i fucking love this game a lot. very rarely do i replay a game so soon after playing it for the first time. its really tragic i’ll never get to experience this game for the first time again, but, so it goes. its such a beautiful game i will be thinking about it for a longgggggggggggg time. ive been wanting to talk about it so badly for so long but none of my friends have played it yet kyaaa!!! >_<

its crazy to me that the game exists the way it does. the style, the mechanics, the story, the music, everything about it oozes so much passion and care and thought. very few games have made me want to stare at every part of it to figure out how they made it look the way it did (THE GAME IS SO STYLISTICALLY RICH LIKE HOIW DID THEY DO ALL THAT) and the game mechanics are so nice to my brain, everything is so tactile and clicky and inventory management and ammo management and horror stratgey and the flesh and rust and death and love and lesbians and robots and anime!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA

edit:(thinking about the first time i played compared to the second. i was considerably less scared since i had a clue of waht was going on but the fear that i felt playing the first time was special to me. i really like games with stories about ‘time loops’ because the replay-ability is baked in in a cool way. especially with how the game throws information at you, viewing things again having experienced perspective shifts from information is really cool. seeing scenes again re-contextualized makes my brain go ^-^(hots quest ding sound) but going in completely blind and being afraid of everything (i especially remember being scared of the dream beach, i had literally no clue what to expect and it was nice) it all had a different flavor than the second time which is cool because i feel like i experience that kind of emotion change *with* elster. (girlie needs a FUCKING cuddle nap)

the way the game balances reality and the surreal i think is super neat. i love surrealist dream stuff a lot and i think that a video game is a super good medium for that kind of experiential stuff that really inspires me to wanna make video games. especially because then theres also this super nerdy sci fi stuff going on about robots and space regimes and magical tech(my favorite) and planetary systems and military systems and all that good shit. i similarly wanna get nerdy about stuff like military logistics while also telling a story about gay robots and girls that keep missing each other just barely in the space time continuum. i love that the game tells you a lot but also is vague and also says fuck you (affectionate) stop looking for answers and just feel it. it explains just the right amount to not feel esoteric while keeping enough vague to leave a lot up to interpretation/figure it out by playing it again/thinking about it. it plays with themes and reality and reoccuring symbolism and all that good shit that makes stories addicting to think about.) ((also one of the endings requiring beating the game once among other things that keep between playthroughs, yummyyy. games that know they are games/stories/worlds that are aware of themselves., thats good shit right there))

Arc 2: Flare

Lizard Cry Counter: 2

TL;DR: Cool shit happening this arc with more fun worldbuilding around the state of Capes, Victoria’s coping mechanisms and hero complex, and some especially funky stuff exploring other Earths and how the shards/triggers are getting extra-special fucky after Gold Morning. We finally get to meet the rest of the PHO group and they are all wonderful, and Wildbow is flexing with the extended metaphor of powers as trauma. 8.75/10

Alrighty, let’s get wormin’! 

Once again, splitting this into mini-arcs so I can keep track of it: 1. Job-Hunting, 2. Broken Trigger Shenanigans, and 3. Group Therapy(?).

Part 1: Job-Hunting

Oh, if this did not capture the soul-crushing nature of the job search so well lol. I really enjoy Victoria’s engagement with each of the big groups that have cropped up since GM, their ideologies, and the optics that each group focuses on. Because if Victoria Dallon understands anything, it’s Aesthetic (in both physical and ideological appearance, thank you Carol (derogatory)). I think the bit where the recruiter asks if Panacea can also be part of the package deal crushed my soul so hard cause mmmmmm. We all have that family member that is perceived very differently from how they actually act towards the people they ostensibly care about. Adding this to the list of times I wanted to hold Victoria gently in my hands. 

Crystal continues to be a treat, I appreciate that she doesn’t own scissors. I find it so interesting that she wanted to be part of the Parahuman Paramilitary, but I guess stability has its allure in times of absolute chaos. Also gonna slide in here the bit about the people Victoria talked to about joining the totally-not-a-cult that comes back later in the arc, I appreciate the “if I can save even one person it will have been worth it” mentality. 

The hospital scene was really nice, both with Tempera/Fume Hood and then taking the kids flying. I think a lot of people can be very cynical about how doing stuff for others can be very self-serving (esp someone as famously cynical as WB /affectionate), but I think that this came across very genuinely, and it’s actually something that can be very good for trauma recovery by just doing things to get yourself out of your own head. Especially when it came to the kid with the friend who had triggered, Victoria really didn’t have to go out her way to make sure that the kid was taken care of. I think that this once again shows her character. Taylor could never (shoutout to the kids that triggered in her territory). 

Part 2: Broken Trigger Shenanigans

Oh man oh man oh man. I really did come into this part with a sigh because really, up until now Wildbow had not wowed me with the new stuff he was exploring with powers/shards, but this section grabbed me by the throat and threw me across the room into a brick wall. I appreciate that this is carving out Ward’s new identity as its own story with more to say outside of just Victoria, but also work as reflections of her and her unique experiences with her power/shard. It’s neat!

But aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa man this was downright tragic to read. Once again, WB hits with the suspense of “something is happening on a timeline, and all you can do it be there for when shit hits the fan.” The Parahuman Paramilitary was funky and off-putting as any type of military institution tends to be. Because ACAB, that’s why. 

Corona Pollentia warfare was enacted here, and the fact that people were literally stopped in space was horrifying and distressing as all hell, Worm never really got to touch on when triggers went wrong because shit was already bad enough being, well, triggers. But the bit at the end with the last guy standing not wanting to be subsumed into a collective (shard/entity?) consciousness was haunting as hell and so, so cool. I can’t wait to see how the entities continue to fuck around and Victoria and the Gang continue to find out. 

Part 3: Group Therapy(?)

Subsisting off of a comfort diet of brownie ice cream and shit TV, Victoria hangs out and Dr. Yamada pulls back the curtain on doctor-patient relationships. Therapists are people too! But it was nice that she thought of giving Victoria something therapy-related to do, even if it was ultimately a ploy to get Victoria to join her little group therapy team and (unsuccessfully) talk them out of doing the whole hero team thing. 

But mmm, I do love me these guys now that we get to really meet them, so down the line we go again!

Kenzie: Still the love of my life, I would kill and die for her. She is so damn earnest and I can respect the hell out of that. Include her in things!!! Give her friends!!! Be nice to her!!! Let her make all the boxes!!!!!! Also I will be deeply upset when we figure out her whole backstory. Preparing to be devastated. 

Sveta: I love that she and Weld are dating and that she is so happy but knowing Wildbow he’s gonna fuck it up somehow and it pisses me off so bad. But for now I will revel in her joy!!! Let her be happy goddammit!!! Also shoutout to her absolutely owning the disability label, I really was like “ah man this is gonna be implied subtext huh” but nope! And I’m really happy about that! But on god the fact that she has a body now??? And she gets to make it pretty and expressive how she wants it???? Kissing her on her forehead she is too good, great even. Unironically the best character. 

Tristan/Byron: Knowing that I have to go back through the PHO chapter and check the timestamps to see which one was in control is simultaneously infuriating and exciting lol. I can’t remember if case 70s appeared in Worm cause if they did I do not remember them. But yet again adding to the weird shit shards do is a thing I will applaud because the specific scenario of “twins who were touching when they triggered” is just horrifying in concept and seems that way in practice as well. I’m placing my bets for the human trafficking being so that they can try to separate themselves. Or something like that IDK. I also wanna slap Tristan on his dumb jock head because sometimes he needs to shut up (tho I feel him. I, too, talk incessantly, see this post series lol). But he gets a pass because he’s nice and makes arms <3

Chris: Breaking out my trusty spray bottle to spritz him every time he’s an antisocial prick. Not necessarily an actual character flaw, I am interested to see what’s gonna happen with this exceptionally small lad, but mmm. He’s an interesting fellow who I think would benefit from touching some grass every now and again. But progress looks different for everyone I guess!

Ashley: She also gets the spray bottle but for being an edgelord. Shadow the Hedgehog called and said tone it down. Once again, very much the Bitch-type of “I have a singular trajectory and will do what I want fuck you all” but in like, a friendship way? Idk, I know everyone loves her (and ships her with Victoria- *cough*) and I also love her, but I would also like to punch her sometimes and I think that is ok! She’s getting better! Maybe! I hope!

Rain: I can smell the little-meow-meow coming off of this guy. This man is a protagonist of another story but got shoved into Ward instead. He is scientifically crafted to be pocket-sized, and if he’s not dead or beat to shit by the end of this story I will eat a shoe. I can tell a sopping wet whipping boy when I see one lol. But in all seriousness, I know that everyone has a lot of shit going on, but Rain’s “it’s complicated” catchphrase is like “Yes, Wildbow, I know he’s your special little guy. It’s ok, you don’t have to be coy about it.” Kinda the way that Amy was in Worm tbh, Wildbow just has favorites he likes to torture sometimes and I have to respect the honesty lol. But yeah, he is genuinely interesting and has some nifty stuff going on w/ his cluster. Very intrigued that Snag is his clustermate, and how their power-exchange works. Again- cool shit!  But oh my god someone’s gonna step on him. Too small lol. 

But all that being said, I appreciated the actual group therapy going on here, and that Victoria is getting some buddies to talk stuff through with, even though this really does seem like a setup for failure. The talk about logistics triggered the “gotta schedule D&D” part of my brain and whoo boy that was some anxiety lol. But I am intrigued to see where this lil team goes and what they do in the story moving forward! Also, a very strong end to the Arc with “This is the way things are now” “...Fuck that.” Stuck that landing, let’s get some change rolling!

(Also the interlude was funky, love seeing Weld and Crystalclear again. The theocracy seems like it mayyyy be an issue tho moving forward. Maybe lol)

Final Thoughts

I think that this arc had a lot to offer, and really started to solidify the direction that Ward is gonna try to go in. I can already feel the length of the story though, that 2 arcs have felt like 6, but ya know. It’s the format! But there’s a part of my brain that really wants to go in and cull a lot of stuff that I know people love but is just like...this is so long. But other than that- I think that finally getting around to the new group is good, and I think the biggest takeaway from this arc is the diversity of Shard Shenanigans. Looking forward to that making shit go sideways lol. 

But yeah! That’s all I got, not as insightful perhaps as the last couple entries but I hope y’all like the more first-impressions type rambling. As always, would love to hear what y’all think of this arc!

RWBY V07E01 - The Greatest Kingdom

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA RWBY V7 IS FINALLY HERE.

My hype has been a rollercoaster, from being very hyped after the v6 finale to a more sedate "let's wait and see what's going to happen" but these past few days the hype has come back in full force.

The title of this episode sounds very... arrogant, which is precisely what I expect from Atlas.

Spoiler note: I have been spoiled on two things about V7. I think Ruby gets a haircut (I saw fanart with Ruby with spiky hair and a comment about it) and Penny is somehow important to this episode since she appears in a credits card I accidentally saw while downloading this episode. My hype went from 100% to 100²% because of that last spoiler so aaaaaaaaaaaaa

I was going to comment about the orchestral music sounding very "Empire" from Star Wars but that subtitle says it all.

Qrow sounds like Qrow so far!

I'm sure it has probably been used before but I think this is the first time I've noticed the show using a bit of depth of field to emphasize who's talking.

Nothing says sci-fi authoritarian dictatorship like giant talking screens.

Mantle looks dingy but I expected it to look even worse, considering the obvious implication of the floating city above. I think the material of the buildings is what bothers me, they don't look gritty enough.

Okay, there's no way the woman in the poster is not going to be important to this season.

Also, white hair. Is she somehow related to the Schnees? I'm trying to remember if there's been any other character with pure white hair besides them but I'm coming up blank. Hmm

Politics? In my RWBY? YES PLEASE

The video compression is killing me but I think that woman says "Hill", same as the poster. I assume she's the "Mantle Hometown Hero" vs "Atlasian Tycoon" which I hope is not Jacques (it'd be interesting for a Weiss arc but not everything has to be directly related to the main characters, even if they end up getting involved later on.)

"Outer Wall Damaged" is probably about Argus (how long did the trip take?), and a setup for a possible plot with that missing journalist.

I can't imagine pre-self-actualization Weiss walking the streets of Mantle though.

Every first episode has had a fight so I was waiting hoping this episode wouldn't be the exception. This _is_ the first time that there can't be anything "new" though since there hasn't been a time skip in between seasons or a character that hasn't been shown fighting in some time (like Yang in V5) so I wonder what element is going to be the differentiator.

I've always liked "serious Ruby" and I always will.

I think this is the fastest a RWBY season has made me cry, first episode, a record!

After seeing that credits card I was really hoping Penny would be back but I didn't expect her to be appear right away. I thought they'd meet Dr. Polendina or maybe hear something about her and leave the actual meeting until later on so... I'm so very happy.

I'm also having problems writing about the episode because I managed to forget everything else that happened but I'll try.

It was mostly a setup episode with the introduction of half the setting (Mantle) but there are hints that something big is brewing with the election and the disappearance of that journalist (possibly caused by Cinder's or Watt's group?)

I don't want to speculate too much about where the election plot is going to go since it's too early but I'm wondering how the main group is going to fit into the situation. Will they have to choose the lesser evil? Is "Hill" the clear "good" choice or is it going to be a Kuvira situation? Is the graffiti "Show your teeth" relevant at all (since it seemed to get noticeably framed before Yang noticed the droid.) I'm hoping the OP is going to have more clues about this.

It was nice to see confirmation that Dr. Polendina was the one who made Yang's arm and there was something incredibly wholesome about the scene where the girl with her new arm is skipping down the street. He's a treasure and I hope nothing bad happens to him.

My roommate managed to get me to ask my crush to homecoming, but... (rambling/ranting)

So my church had a “linger-longer” after the meetings today; they set out cookies and milk and everyone got to mill about and mingle for a little while if they wanted to. Me and my roommate go to church with my crush, and obviously she knows that I like him, we talk about it all the time and she nudges me when she sees him. So she gets the great idea in her head to call him over and tell him I have something to ask him. I’m rather upset with how proud of herself and grinning she is, but I roll with it because I’m a strong independent woman. Here’s what my emotion-brain remembers of the ensuing conversation:

Me, probably blushing the crap out of my face and grinning like the embarrassed idiot that I am in front of any guy I like ever: I was just wondering if you were planning on going to the homecoming dance this weekend. {He is on the football team, so I was genuinely curious.}

Him: I wasn’t planning on it. *pause* Do you need a date or something?

Me, currently dying of embarrassment right in front of him: Uh-Kinda. You don’t have to if you don’t want.

Him: No, it’s good.

Me, genuinely concerned: You sure?

Him: Yeah, no big. *thoughful pause while my brain continues rambling and borderline hating my roommate for starting this* That’s Saturday, right? *I nod* I think I might have made plans for that.... I’ll look into it and get back to you on it, k? *HUGS ME☠️ then leaves*

Roommate’s friend who was sitting on the sidelines with her and watching this all happen: I approve! He’s a good guy! {Roommate had told her that she was trying to get me to talk to my crush without saying his name, so this is how friend found out it was him.}

So yeah, now I have to try to figure out this current dilemma of my emotions, cuz part of me kinda wants his other plans to work out so I don’t have to try and brave going to a dance with him cuz he’ll probably want to drive down and he has a Mustang and he’ll probably wear a suit and I can already barely handle that in well-lit-and-spiritual-music church settings let alone not-so-well-lit-and-dance-music homecoming settings and also he probably now has figured out that I like him but I may not be able to control my mouth and legit tell him on Saturday and I’m not ready for this cuz what if he likes me too this happened last year with a guy but didn’t pan out and I can’t go through that again because starting with last year guy I’ve told 3 guys I like them and it didn’t work out with any of them and AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA

But now I kinda feel bad, because he wasn’t planning on going and what if he tells whoever he made plans with that this came up so he has to cancel on them so he doesn’t make me feel bad but that would just make me feel worse because I meant it when I said he didn’t have to if he didn’t want to but now he probably feels obligated to go with me even though he didn’t originally want to but he’s too nice to say no and why did I do this? Also, he has a beard. And also my number because of his job in our church.

*Edit: I don’t actually hate my roommate. I let her read this and she got concerned. I only said that for comedic effect in this otherwise tragic story.*
