One of the best series of fics that I have read.  Violent in places but it fits in with the story.  I wish I could write something this good. I’ve stayed up 3 nights so far (way too late) and I still haven’t finished all the fics.  So you’ve got some reading ahead of you if you decide to embark on this journey.  And you should you really should.  @thisgirlhastales

So ya girl made the beautiful mistake of catching up on Devil in the Eye before it was finished even though I TOLD myself I was gonna be strong and wait. So I’m back on my Trouble’s Making Everything All Right horse (pun intended) and bringing you a couple of new playlists. This playlist is comprised entirely of reader recommended tracks submitted to Mytay on her blog (which, if you’re not already following, I ask you WHY?!?!?). Mostly, this is for ease of browsing and for encouraging other readers to get back in the mood of the space cowboys. 

IT ALSO ENCOURAGED ME TO MAKE AN ENTIRELY NEW THEMES PLAYLIST FOR THE BACK HALF OF THE SERIES. Why? Because Glitter loves pain, apparently. I’m really happy you people liked that Yathir fanart. Like, smiling “I'm all giddy inside” face making it’s public appearance happy. Saying hello to strangers just to spread more positive vibes happy. Thank you.

Having said that, I’m a bit unsure about Brisha. Don’t get me wrong - after drawing this I don’t think I will ever see her differently. “What has been seen...” and all that. But in a good way.

While reading the series I always pictured Brisha as blue human with these kinda fuzzy hands, because my brain didn’t know how to make seven fingers work. So this whole “design” started with my sitting down and trying to make Brisha’s palms look like palms and not like hand fans attached to her wrists.  I came up with what you can see in the picture. She has two thumbs on opposite sides of her palms, which lets the palms look less wide and floppy and kinda tricks the eye into thinking “yes, that’s a hand”. To take it even further away from the territory of dusfigured human hands and more into the territory of interesting alien hands I kept goofing around and settled on those gecko/toad fingers. I liked them, so I kept them. Fun fact: the outer, “pinky thumb” is a bit shorter than the “thumb thumb” and set at a bit of a different angle, so they don’t get in each other’s way when Brisha grabs something. Also the five fingers in between thumbs create enough space to safely make a fist. Here was another problem. I always imagined Brisha as more or less blue human. Human face did not fit the hands though, so I thought “ok, she’s an alien. Let’s make her look like an alien”. Finally I doodled a face. I looked at the face and thought “That looks like a Brisha!”. I can see her introducing herself, her mouth forming around the name “Brisha” and everyone believing her, because that’s who she is. And that’s how this kinda fishy Brisha became the only Brisha I will ever see while reading TMEAR. Onto the rest of her appearance.  Brisha’s the big sister and the gossip buddy you always wanted to have. She helps not because she’s getting something out of it, but because she’s kind and want’s to be your friend. She’s also killed before and has gotten out of working for the worst of the worst bosses the planet has to offer. She might have lost two fingers because of where her past led her, but she did not lose her kindness.  At the time the story takes place she’s working at Jorlack’s as a waitress/runner. 

Keith and Lance first see her as a waitress, and they can’t tell she can be deadly if she wants to be. In the drawing she’s wearing her “best shirt”, the one she wears when she’s serving customers and should not look dirty. She’s a working girl though and sometimes she has to make a run for Jorlack, or put someone in their place if required, so she’s still wearing her working pants and shoes. Brisha needs to be ready for action, so her pants are the best mix of comfortable and practical she could find. Those pants have six pockets, two in the front, two on the back, one on the thigh and one on the calf. Add to that a satchel, because sometimes you just need that extra storage space. She’s holding a small metal tray to carry glasses of whatever Jorlack’s customers decide to poison themselves with and a notepad and pen combo of never forgetting orders again.

Also I like to think Zan hates that shirt of her’s and tried to get rid of it three times before giving up because the shirt somehow kept reappearing in Brisha’s closet. That won’t stop him from giving Brisha “minus ten style fashion points” every time he sees her wearing it.   

This somehow became an essay on “how I went full character designer on this shit”. I think I’ve lost control.

ANYWAY here are some of my fav fics by these guys! i honestly love everything of theirs so what i recommend is just to get you hooked if you’re not already. after that, you should do yourself a favor and just go and read all their fics lmao. have fun!!

- hiuythn wrote there, nestled against his pulse and its incredible sequel, which you’ve probably already read (here and here), but if you haven’t, you’re really missing out. if you’re looking for something shorter, i highly recommend this adorable fluff: i killed sendak for this. anyway hiuythn’s writing is something i’m obsessed with just. the way they word things, and their characterization, and even the way they format their stories it’s just,,, every time they post a fic i’m like HELLO GREAT DAY

- noussommeslessquelettes wrote one of my favorite series ever. what first got me hooked on them was this series and the absolute Feels™ it gave me and just their unique writing style. it’s 55k all together and it’s a high school au and idk it just makes me feel so at home for some reason. god i fucking love this one aspect of the series where keith has to change a tire,,, YOU’LL SEE!!! they have a bunch of other fics too!! oneshots and chaptered fics! make sure you check ‘em all out they’re all incredible

- melancholymango has a BUNCH of fics. they’ve been posting a lot lately bc of commissions and their smut is *chefs kiss* i’m always a slut for any creature/monster au they write, so some of my favs to just dive into: from a dragon’s breath, where lance tries to sacrifice himself to the dragons near his village, my, what sharp teeth you have, which is a werewolf!keith/little red riding hood!lance fic, would you be so kind? asdkjf canon fwb!!, beast of burden okay. this fic. FUCK. it’s another werewolf!keith fic and,,, read the tags but Hello at that fic omg. anyway kali has fics ranging from like 8k - 100k+ so just go have fun

- wittyy wrote a lot of fics that are super popular in the fandom that i’m sure you’ll recognize!! shut up and dance with me and moth and flame and the mirror fics shadow of the future (by wittyy) / ghost of the past (by zizanni). but!!! they also have awesome fics that you might not have read yet, including from what i’ve tasted of desire (alpha/alpha shifter dragon fic) and a touch of magic which is vampire!lance witch!keith and i’m actually in love with it

- aknightley also has a bunch of big fics in the fandom. they wrote this one fic that i’ve read so many times ajsdlkf it’s fit the crown to my head. that story’s like a legit Novel i’m obsessed with it. also can you tell me is so good my guy, like,,, if you haven’t read it yet you better get to it. you’ve probably read a bunch of their fics already, idk if they have even a single fic with less than 1000 kudos, but make sure you scroll through their page and check out all their fics if you haven’t already

- katranga has it might not be that bad which i’m obsessed with ohh my god. basically keith mistakes jealousy for ~other feelings~. also audience of one and its awesome sequel. it’s where lance is captured by the galra and keith is there, having been raised with them (and the sequel where it’s keith joining voltron). SO GOOD

- mytay has this series that i’m fucking obsessed with. it’s where keith and lance end up stranded on this planet and become kickass cowboy boyfriends. it’s so fun to read and the way the story is told is nonlinear and i LOVE that. they also have a ton of other fics that you’ll want to read i don’t make the rules

- speaks also has a bunch of popular awesome fics!! if you want to start with something short, read the amnesia game. this fic just really stuck in my memory, like the premise of it is so interesting and like nothing i’ve ever seen before, i’m obsessed with it. also terminal velocity is this insane, incredible angst that inspired me to write something angsty at one point, i can’t remember which fic it was though asdkfj. basically check out all their fics lmao

- starlightment wrote read all about it where keith’s a star highschool athlete and lance is a reporter for the newspaper!!! it’s so fun aldsfjk. also something blue which eheueheu fake relationship. that’s all i need to say. and they have a bunch of other fics too which you should read obvs

anyway i love the Trouble’s Making Everything Alright series, ft Lance and Keith crash landing on a wild west/prison planet and hacking it by as mercenaries while they try to get back to voltron. i dont even know what to say about it except i cried and i am equal parts stressed and jazzed about the forthcoming recovery fic (both parts are v Big), and also it was very emotionally and visually evocative so i want to draw it a bunch. ive got a List. anyway

i promise if i do more there will be 100% more cowboy outfits

Last day of the year! I think this year was probably the most I’ve posted ever, so for all the downs 2020 has had at least I had this going for me

5. I have a thing about group shots and making people walking in them...I don’t know why but the old guard one was fun to draw and I think this was the first thing I ever drew for this fandom! :)

4. The Foxhole Court is a fandom that I come in and out of every few months, it’s one of the few that I always fall back in to! This piece was one that I was stupid proud of only because it really showed how much I have improved and cemented my designs for how I wanted to draw these two little shits

3. The top three are all IT and I don’t know but I had some of the most creative ideas with that fandom, they are also one of the nicest that I have ever been apart of. And this was a crossover between Magnus Archives and IT but I am so so proud of it

2. Good ‘ol Don’t Starve. I can’t explain how much my mood cycled between I love this/I hate this/this is the best/I never want to draw again. Trying to keep my style while are working with the games style was absolute hell but I think the end result was worth it

1. And lastly, my favorite duo from the losers club! Nothing to say about this except that it is my background to a lot of things because I’m proud of *waves hand* all of it

Yathir is the green-skinned, six-armed alien uncle/grandpa figure for Keith and Lance in "Trouble's making everything all right". He's an older man who might not look like much, but he can kick some serious ass. He's got a staff that might or might not be made out of stone. No one knows for sure but Yathir has no problem handling it. He also owns an inn located in a town named Dagos. He serves drinks. He cooks homemade meals. He also has rules you just DON'T BREAK. Everyone knows it. Yathir is the first OC I drew because I think I have a pretty good grasp on his character and I wouldn't change anything about his appearance even if an official description proves me wrong. I feel like Yathir would wear very simple and comfortable clothing. Here he's wearing a well-worn shirt dotted with stains that don't really wash out anymore. It's his favourite. It's a shirt. It does what a shirt should do. It's okay to still wear it. It's gonna get stained anyway. Yathir's a working man and he's not afraid to get his clothes dirty. He's got an apron on, because he needs to wipe his hands on something when he's cooking or cleaning. It also provides an extra pair of pockets and it's always a good thing to have more pockets. While Lance is obsessed with cowboy look and rocks those cowboy boots I feel like Yathir would wear the sturdiest, most comfortable pair of boots he could find on the whole planet. Boots fit for standing behind the bar the whole day. Boots fit for getting shit done (kicking ass, starting revolutions...). Yathir might enjoy a friendly drink with you, but be careful. If he doesn't trust you there might be a teeny tiny bomb in that pocket. Just in case he needs it.
