So I got a request to get a before and after photo for Foster Arnie (pending adoption). We’re devastated to report that we lost our sweet Chester today. Back in February, Chester came into Hamilton Animal Services as a stray. When he was found, he was in pretty rough shape. His fur was matted and dirty, and he was coughing and sneezing. Poor guy was not feeling great at all. We rescued Chester from HAC and took him to the vet. Xrays showed a pretty bad chest infection, so Chester was put on medication to clear it up. It took a few different medications and just as many vet visits for Chester to finally be healthy enough to have surgery to remove a rotting tooth (that was likely causing his eye and chest issues), and to be neutered. Unfortunately, he didn’t survive the surgery. Rabbits can be sensitive to anesthesia, and Chester’s little body just couldn’t handle being under. We want to thank the vets and clinic staff who tried their absolute best with wee Chester. And our hearts go out to Chester’s foster mom, who gave Chester the most wonderful care and so much love during his time with her. Below is a note from foster mom. Sleep well Chester. He fought very hard to overcome chronic illness but the surgery he underwent today proved to be too much for him and he sadly died from complications. Chester was undoubtedly the sweetest creature I've ever known and his loss is keenly felt. We took these photos this morning before we went to the vet and at the vet's office and it's how I'll always remember him - with his face nuzzled in the palm of my hand, soaking up all the attention and affection that he could, while he could. Chester was my first foster bunny but he won't be my last. As much as my heart aches now, I know I'd do it a million times over again if I could. This is just one way that trust training can look. It took us a while to enjoy pats, but the pouch was a great tool to slowly get him used to being around people again.

We started just with Santa in the pouch, on my lap for a minute or so and then a treat.

And after a few days he let he me pat him on the outside, and then further let me pat his strange oily body which was MY treat.

Thanks for opening your heart to me Santa, I’m glad I could help you feel loved like you deserve.

Hey Friends,

Most of you probably know I spend a lot of my discretionary time working with Rachie's Ratirement Home - a dedicated animal rescue for pet rats and mice.

Long and the short of it is that we take in, care for and where possible rehome abandoned, abused and sometimes just badly caught out rats and mice. We also do a hell of a lot of community education around animal welfare and the ethical treatment of animals.

We are not a news service.

We rescue animals and educate humans.

Yesterday our page was shadow banned by Facebook as part of its "new media response".

Apparently any groups affected who aren't news media "was an unfortunate accident" that Facebook are rectifying...eventually...maybe.

In the meantime, a huge source of our community fundraising potential is blocked from us right now. For a small local animal rescue this has potentially catastrophic consequences.

On facebook we have a GLOBAL community of 22,000 followers who we interact with multiple times a day sharing the wins and the hardships of animal rescue.

If you are willing to help me to help a rescue that means a lot to me please...
