Jefferson: Did you tell anyone we’re dating?
Hamilton: Yes Thomas, I have no self control and told the pretzel vendor we’re together.
Jefferson: Okay, no need to be sarcastic.
Hamilton: No, seriously. I have no self control and told the pretzel vendor we’re together.

My apush teacher told us about an interesting interaction between Jefferson and Hamilton.
Jefferson had Hamilton over at his house for dinner or something of that sort. Alexander saw three large portraits and inquired about who those men were and was told John Locke, Issac Newton, and Nathaniel Bacon (?), whom he described as the greatest men who’d ever lived. Hamilton promptly told him he was wrong and that Caesar was the greatest person to ever live. The reason I find this hilarious is because afterwards, Jefferson saw this as another reason why Hamilton was dangerous to the U.S. because he looked up to a dictator which is even better when you remember Hamilton being a monarchist. The teacher then told us that some historians believe Hamilton only said this to be a prick in Jefferson’s ass.

thomas jefferson and sally hemings did not have a forbidden romance as many historians like to say. sallywas thomas’s child sex slave and it’s time that people know the truth about our founding fathers.

June 14 2020 - Students at Jefferson High School in Portland tore down the Thomas Jefferson statue in front of their school. Thomas Jefferson wrote “All men are created equal“ in the US declaration of Independence, but he was a life-long slave owner who enslaved over 600 people throughout his lifetime. [video]

Who knows about Sally Hemings?
She was Thomas Jefferson's slave.
Called his "mistress," but how can you be a mistress when you were a slave, a child, and could not consent? Had absolutely no choice?
She bore him 6, perhaps as many as 8 children. He kept her locked in a basement room.
The room was recently unearthed, and DNA evidence has proven the lineage of Sally's children.
She was beteeen 12 and 14 years old when he started raping her, and Jefferson was in his forties. He freed the children that he had with her, but not Sally. Her daughter had to free her mother after Jefferson passed away.
This is not taught in schools. This side of history. We are supposed to consider the founding fathers as great men, fighting for justice and freedom, guided by God... when they are evil men. Selfish men who did nothing, save that it was for their own aggrandisement, personal benefit, and financial gain.
I would also like to add that Sally was Jefferson's dead wife's half sister. Sally's mother was raped by her owner, who was Martha (wife of Thomas) Jefferson's father.
These people left a legacy.
A legacy of entitlement under the most criminal of circumstances, and White Supremacist beliefs which pervade U.S. Society and Culture, to this very day.

Hamilton: An American Musical portrays the founding fathers in a far more positive light than they deserve and neglects to mention the horrific impact these men had on both African Americans as a collective and the individual Black people they interacted with and portrays America through rose-tinted glasses
Hamilton : An American Musical was instrumental in igniting a new wave of musical appreciation and modern musicals that sparked a generation's interest in history while also giving recognition and roles to incredible Actors and Actresses of color and is a musical masterpiece
Are opinions that can and should coexist. It's okay to be critical of the things you consume. It's encouraged even.

- Angelica Schuyler was a slave owner
- Alexander Hamilton rented slaves
- Do I really need to say anything about Washington, Jefferson, or Madison
- Alexander Hamilton was not an advocate for immigrants. In fact, he pushed laws that would harm immigrants because he feared the effect they would have on his political career
- Angelica Schuyler was actually friends with Jefferson, which is its whole separate thing
- The Schuyler family had their fortune built off of slaves, which Hamilton benefitted from when he married Eliza
- Hercules Mulligan owned a slave (His name was Cato. He was a spy in the Revolution, and you should definitely look into him!)
I love the musical, but please remember to treat this subject with respect. The musical characters are fictional counterparts to their historical ones. View the fictional characters how you want, but remember how horrible the real people were. Angelica would not have fought for slaves rights, she owned her own. Hamilton wouldn't help immigrants because he was one, he created laws that still harm them to this day. The musical is beautiful, but take off the rose tinted glasses when you analyze the historical figures and their actions. Enjoy the musical, remember the history.

When governments fear the people, there is liberty. When the people fear the government, there is tyranny. The strongest reason for the people to retain the right to keep and bear arms is, as a last resort, to protect themselves against tyranny in government.

Jefferson: Is it the one you have now?
Jefferson: Well it should be.

the fact that hamilton, which is arguably one of the biggest pieces of media in the past decade, is getting a professional release is a big deal. this is a huge step for making theatre more accessible for everyone.
like, for $10 (the average price of a movie ticket) you could watch the proshot of hamilton, with the original broadway cast. you could see the original broadway cast of hamilton for $10 dollars. you’re literally paying a hamilton to see hamilton. and you don’t need to worry about sitting in a rear mezzanine seat or having an obstructed view, since it’s a proshot.
and, since disney is producing it, they’ll most likely release it on DVD or on disney+ in the future. this is a huge step forward in making accessible theatre. you could watch hamilton multiple times a week (or multiple times a day!) for a low price.

I just realized something
Jefferson and Hamilton were the loud, extra ones. They have their assigned colors and go all out when it comes to wearing them
While Burr and Madison were quiet and less extreme than Jefferson and Hamilton. They also have their respective colors (purple and some orangey yellow color) but wear that underneath a different colored jacket thing
Was this intentional or am I looking too deep into this-

I love how people are suddenly acting as if lovers of Hamilton aren’t aware or don’t acknowledge that the actual founding fathers were shitty racist white men.
Like bitch I know my country was built on the backs of slaves and colonizers but rn I’m trying to enjoy Daveed Diggs bouncing around onstage okay
